Hunter was appointed attorney general in 2017 by former Gov. Mary Fallin after then-attorney general Scott Pruitt was named head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Hunter won election to a four-year term in 2018 and was planning to run for another term next year.
O’Connor did not respond to an email inquiry Thursday about being named attorney general. He will be in office for only a little under 18 months unless he runs and wins election to the job.
He was born in Tulsa in 1954, received a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in 1977 and his law degree from the University of Tulsa in 1980, according to a questionnaire he completed in 2018 for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.
