Government "reviewing" Haitian and other consulates' presence in TCI
Minister of Immigration, Hon. Arlington "Chuck" Musgrove.
The Turks and Caicos Islands government is "reviewing" the presence of the Haitian Consulate and others here, and there is a possibility that they could be closed.
Minister of Immigration Hon. Arlington "Chuck" Musgrove said his ministry is reviewing the consular offices to determine whether their presence locally is hindering or hurting the country.
“This increase in illegal activities from our neighbours to the south (Haiti and Dominican Republic), including illegal poaching and immigration, has forced us to take a serious look at the presence of the consular office, to determine if their presence here is hindering or hurting us. If it is proven, we will take the necessary steps to enhance the national security of our people, residents and visitors alike here in the Turks and Caicos Islands,” he said during an interview on Radio Turks and Caicos on Monday March 8th, 20201.
