It was Bake Off that started it. They were making chocolate babka, something I’d been thinking about idly since I’d had it for breakfast at Breads Bakery in New York. Of course, there had been plenty of opportunity to give it a go – chocolate babka has been a ‘thing’ for a while (which, if I’m honest, is what put me off), but watching the bakers try it for the first time, twisting dough that turned into glossy tiger stripes of bread and chocolate, made me give in. Why was I watching chocolate babka being made instead of actually making it myself?
