Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Mich.) on Sunday condemned Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) for comparing mask mandates in the House to the Holocaust, saying her comments are part of a larger symptom of "attention-seeking" messages from some members of his party. Why it matters: The Anti-Defamation League and other Jewish groups have raised alarms about rising anti-Semitism following the confrontation between the Israeli military and Hamas in Gaza. Reports of Islamophobia have also increased.Stay on top of the latest market trends and economic insights with Axios Markets. The Michigan Republican is one of the top five most bipartisan freshman members based on the number of bills he has co-sponsored with Democrats.Greene was stripped from her committee assignments earlier this year, in part over her past statements, which included anti-Semitic remarks. What they're saying: "I don't even have words to describe how disappointing it is to see this hyperbolic speech that frankly amps up and plays into a lot of the anti-Semitism that we've been seeing in our society today," Meijer said on CNN's "State of the Union." "The broader challenge right now is that that's where the oxygen is. It's in the most outlandish, the most far-fetched, the most attention-seeking message. We should be talking about policies," he said, naming climate change and cybersecurity.Former Republican Conference chair Rep. Liz Cheney also condemned Taylor Greene's comparison.
