The National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago (sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor) published a survey in October outlining the continuing problem of child labor in West Africa’s cacao trade. Using the 2018-19 harvest season in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, it reported that 38% of children in Côte d’Ivoire and 55% of children in Ghana living in agricultural households were engaged in cocoa production.
