After more than 24,000 Australian dollars (€15,000) was raised online for Ballygarrett man Sean Newens (20), who suffered cardiac arrest on a GAA pitch in Melbourne last month, local gym goers at P.A.C.E have also gotten behind the campaign.
Sean's mother Amy Newens was took part in a six-week challenge with the gym group during Ireland's level 5 lockdown, and the team decided to get behind her to raise money to go towards Sean's recovery.
Sean, who has lived in Australia for the last two years, was told by doctors that he may never be able to play sports again and for the next six months at least, he cannot work or travel home to Ireland.
