Gladstone Mayor Matt Burnett will contest the federal seat of Flynn in the upcoming election.

Flynn — a decision that could spark another Queensland by-election.
Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese will announce Cr Burnett as Labor's candidate for the seat today in a trip to the city. 
Cr Burnett – who is also a Local Government Association of Queensland board member — has been an open Labor member — and was last year slated to contest the Flynn seat.
Mr Albanese said Cr Burnett's pre-selection marked the start of Labor's push for comeback in Queensland where it holds just six seats out of 30.
