FARGO — It's the biggest day of the year for local nonprofit fundraising, and Giving Hearts Day 2021, which fell on Thursday, Feb. 11, turned out to be the biggest ever when the giving surpassed $21 million before the day was over.
At just after 8 p.m. Thursday, the event's running total exceeded $19.3 million, eclipsing last year's record of about $19.2 million. The 24-hour fundraiser was set to conclude at midnight.
Amber DeKrey, director of programs for Dakota Medical Foundation, which hosts the annual event along with Impact Institute and the Alex Stern Family Foundation, said at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon that $13.6 million had been pledged, up about 25% from last year at the same point in the day.
