A 52-year-old Hollidaysburg woman who donated part of her liver last year to a man in Pittsburgh, saving him from imminent death, is grateful for the gratitude that the gift has engendered.
As a young woman, Marina Moses was bold, and donating an organ gave her the chance to feel that way once again, she said last week, in an interview in recognition of National Donate Life Month.
Recipient Richard Dzugan got a life extension, but Moses got an even better deal: Although she said she “just laid there and slept” as surgeon Abhi Humar and his team performed “magic,” after which her husband Dave took care of her at home, while friends brought food — she “got all the credit,” Moses said. “I feel like a superhero,” she said.
