Paul embery dont Boris Johnson and dont like Boris Johnson and bofis dont like Boris Johnson and boris is not going to Boris Johnson is not going to sleep tonight. Im absolutely confident do confident about that. What do you to boris at you make to the boris news at hermy . You be hermy . Delighted. Will you be tuning who else would tuning in . Who else would you like to see presenting a show on the all the channel . Get in touch. All the channel . Get in touch. All the ways and let me know. The usual ways and let me know. But you know id better but you know what . Id better crack do my which is crack on and do my job. Which is actually to discuss one of the biggest stories town today, biggest stories in town today, which local council. Are which is your local council. Are they a good job or not . We they doing a good job or not . We already dont many already know, dont we . So many of going bust. And now of them are going bust. And now the local government association, represents the local government ass of ation, represents the local government ass of these represents the local government ass of these councils,|resents the local government assof these councils, hasints lot of these councils, has basically said issued warning basically said issued a warning saying many of them do saying that so many of them do not have funds now to not have enough funds now to simply be able to still. Simply be able to stand still. Well, used to be a local well, you used to be a local councillor. The other interesting thing is that Central Government has issued a warning to local councils to say any of you lot are any of you lot that are trialling four day working weeks , cease and desist , you need to cease and desist immediately. What you make of immediately. What do you make of the councils . The goings on at councils . First thing is that well, the first thing is that this the local this organisation, the local government association, its sort their dna to keep sort of in their dna to keep asking more money. Thats asking for more money. Thats what on behalf local what they do on behalf of local councils. Same i do councils. At the same time, i do have some sympathy because council cut Council Budgets have been cut over but the duties, over the years, but the duties, the responsibilities are getting bigger and those responsibilities created responsibilities are created by law. Say , how do you law. So you say, how much do you spend taking a send child to school . How much accompaniment does he have . Thats all set by law. They dont. Or the law or the courts or the courts. And they dont have any say over the amount of resources theyre going to put into that. Their obugafions going to put into that. Their obligations to the elderly and to homeless. Theyre all set to the homeless. Theyre all set for by law. They cant for them by law. And they cant deviate very much from that. So when those burdens increase , and when those burdens increase, and particularly, think when the particularly, i think when the government is saying that were taking of hotels and taking people out of hotels and were refuge , these so called were a refuge, these so called claimants claimants for Refugee Status , out of hotels and status, out of hotels and putting them on your budget effectively because theyll become homeless , the become homeless, the governments got to step up and pay for that because the councils have resources to do councils have no resources to do it theyre even allowed it and theyre not even allowed to council tax up by to put the council tax up by more than a few because thats controlled as well. But why should payer for should the Council Tax Payer for pay should the Council Tax Payer for pay of these things . So pay for some of these things . So i think ive got some sympathy with where councils but with where the councils are, but they always be crying wolf. They will always be crying wolf. You cant take it all at face value, have got some value, but i have got some sympathy what theyre sympathy with what theyre saying the moment. Saying at the moment. Paul been a ticking bomb paul been a ticking time bomb for hasnt it . Its for 13 years, hasnt it . Its been a disaster waiting to happen. Have had austerity, happen. We have had austerity, certainly for the first decade after 2010. For a large part of it , we see massive cuts to it, we see massive cuts to Council Funding. Some councils Council Funding. Some councils in england and wales, for example, had to endure cuts of around about 30 to 40 of their core government funding. We are seeing spending per head go down by about 20 for some councils and the truth is that you cannot get Public Services and local services on the cheap. If you services on the cheap. If you want good provision, if you want effective local Public Services, then youve got to pay for them and when youve got a government that has for the best part of the last decade been hell bent on slashing the funding to Council Services , we end up in Council Services, we end up in a position where councils are in financial crisis and the sad thing is actually these cuts will fall often on the poorest sections of society. The more sections of society. The more disadvantaged the area is, the more impact the cuts are likely to have. And this is everyday things. This is open spaces closing, this is libraries closing, this is libraries closing. This is impact on on closing. This is impact on on social care. Its very little of that. Really nearly all its homelessness. Its even things like trade and distinguish its not open space and trading standards. Space and trading standards. Those are the things that are going to where it matters most. The vast majority of Council Spending is going on areas that are personal social are to do with personal social services so the elderly, the services. So the elderly, the those who cant manage and their old children who are taken into care or need to be looked after in some other way. Children with special disabilities, things like that. Thats where the huge amount of budget actually goes. Amount of budget actually goes. It isnt going into parks. So the where the whole thing is, is breaking down, if you like. And breaking down, if you like. And im agreeing with you to some extent, but youre painting too bleak broader picture. Bleak and broader picture. Libraries have hundreds of libraries have closed, example, hundreds of closed, for example, hundreds of libraries, libraries libraries, hundreds of libraries have closed. Hundreds libraries have hundreds of libraries have closed. I dont know closed. You say, i dont know whether have. Well, you can whether they have. Well, you can just but i dont just assert that, but i dont believe thats actually true. But where the burden is falling is its falling on the pressure is its falling on the pressure is coming all on those personal social services is and thats whats got to be addressed. The whats got to be addressed. The amount councils actually spend on libraries or open spaces is relatively small. If you took the personal social services out of a council, what youd be left with would be quite a small budget, which would perfectly budget, which would be perfectly manageable tax. Manageable from council tax. Know, whether its but you know, whether its small not, the fact is these small or not, the fact is these are the things that the council often slash first. Often looks to to, slash first. And is , you know, an impact and it is, you know, an impact on things like on the cheap. It is a is impact on things like is a is an impact on things like homelessness sports centres. Homelessness and sports centres. And libraries and and as i said, libraries and things and we cant things like that. And we cant underestimate impact on underestimate the impact on people who rely those people who rely on those services. I mean , hundreds of services. I mean, hundreds of libraries closed. Are libraries have closed. They are often used by elderly and Vulnerable People. And this is this impact that this this is the impact that that has when you force that it has when you force through when Government Forces , through when Government Forces, forces through substantial cuts to government funding. As i said at the beginning, you cannot get pubuc at the beginning, you cannot get Public Services on the cheap. David cameron said when he came to in 2010 and he was hell to power in 2010 and he was hell bent on imposing his austerity measures that any government measures that if any government minister him and said minister came to him and said that there were no savings to be had in their department, he would send back say, go would send them back and say, go back you need to find back because you need to find savings. Or whatever savings. 25 savings or whatever it was at the time it was floated. But thats sensible. I dont think it is particularly sensible because look what happens later. End happens 13 years later. We end up situation where youve up in a situation where youve got councils going bankrupt and this not this isnt councils are not going bankrupt, are going bankrupt, councils are going bankrupt, councils are going are not going well, councils are not going well, councils are not going bankrupt for that reason. Councils that have well, the councils that have gone look at gone bankrupt look at birmingham, has gone birmingham, birmingham has gone bankrupt not because its spending too much, but because its been caught out on, on, on on its gender equality. I pay in on its gender equality. I pay in the courts and thats whats blown them out of the water. Not because theyre spending too much money and dont have enough income on services. Croydon went income on services. Croydon went bankrupt they got bankrupt because they got involved a property scheme involved in a property scheme that took them down. So youre mixing all these things up together , painting overly together, painting an overly bleak, utterly unnuanced, and if i may say so, largely ignorant picture. So, so party all of the Party Political purposes simply because being your bonnet about David Cameron all of sensibly trying to save taxpayers money from being wasted so this is just crying wolf. In your view, all of these councils . No, i have not said government officials. You heard what i said. You heard what i said. Who are saying i gave you a nuanced, intelligent and knowledgeable. We are are suffering. We are we are suffering. We are we are suffering. And can look at you can and you can look at you can look studies that have been look at studies that have been carried out, for example, by the Joseph Foundation , Joseph Rowntree foundation, which documented in detail which has documented in detail the severe impacts of substantial cuts in local authorities and what that means in terms of councils being able to deliver services on the ground. It has had a massive impact. Can you tell me a year in the last 30 disadvantaged who rely on those services . Its great. Can you tell me a year for you in the last 30 years . A lovely posh trend when the local government is association services, it has not said ahead of a budget that councils are going bankrupt. People talk every year. People talk every year. They say councils are going bankrupt because thats their job. Whats your question . Whats your question . When can you last tell me . They didnt say that. They say this every year. Paul well, youre just getting elated about this. Youre just angry because you didnt no, im im angry. Im angry because youre ignonng im angry because youre ignoring the obvious that ignoring the obvious fact that if Council Funding by if you slash Council Funding by something a third over ten Something Like a third over ten years, get to the end years, when you get to the end of line, you will see of that line, you will see a very serious and detrimental impact on Public Services to deny that case deny that thats the case i think is just naive and ignorant. Well, ill tell you who is angry. Fellow in my that angry. The fellow in my ear that keeps that ive got keeps telling me that ive got to go to a break. Have you still got your library . What about your local and whose your local council . And whose side that conversation side of that conversation line are who agree are you on . Who do you agree with . Get touch and let me with . Get in touch and let me know and ill you into the know and ill bring you into the conversation. Next up, though, qatar. We they qatar. Of course, we know they are very cosy when it comes to hamas. Their hamas. They also have their fingers lot of pies. Do fingers in a lot of pies. Do qataris here in the uk , should qataris here in the uk, should we be doing business with them all that they all the time that they are pretty bed, to speak, pretty much in bed, so to speak, with you tell me and youre listening to gb news radio. Radio. Oh, on mark dolan tonight in my big opinion, labour divisions on israel are the tip of the iceberg. In my take a ten itv iceberg. In my take a ten itv and the bbc have embarrassed themselves with their coverage of the israel conflict. This news gathering isnt as easy as it looks. Weve also got it looks. Weve also got broadcasting legend nicholas owen. My top pundits and tomorrows papers. Plus ill be responding to the massive story of the day that Boris Johnson has joined gb news. Were live from. Nine from. Nine hi there, Michelle Dewberry with you till 7 00 tonight. Daniel moylan, paul embry alongside me, 800 libraries is the figure there are thereabouts over the last ten years. Thats how many have closed. Is your one still open . Do you use it . Get in touch and tell me, ben and says if council is stopped, basically pretending that they were stockbrokers playing around with public money instead of spending it on what its supposed be spent for, supposed to be spent for, perhaps we be in a better perhaps we might be in a better position. Daniel position. So he says. Daniel says if all these councils are so skint , why says if all these councils are so skint, why are so many of them wasting it on more and more unneeded , necessary roadworks . Unneeded, necessary roadworks . Thatis unneeded, necessary roadworks . That is a very good point. There are roadworks absolutely everywhere. Whats this . Everywhere. Whats this . Overstaffed and overpaid. The overstaffed and overpaid. The council tax disappears into the black hole of huge wages and pensions , says bill carroll says pensions, says bill carroll says i think paul is great, but why does he keep going on about austerity without reflecting on the cause . One of my other viewers says, can you ask paul, what was that . Note that labour left when they left the office . The labour treasury minister said, weve run out of money. It was clearly intended as a as a joke and the tories have milked it last 30 years. It for the last 30 years. Never a truer word, said in jest. Are you suffering country which issues its own currency can never run out of money as a matter . Oh yeah. The Printing Press as a matter of fact. Keep printing. It was clearly printing. It was clearly printing it. It was clearly always the joke by the treasury minister. Well, i dont know. Apparently it was a tell apparently it was a joke. Tell me, did find funny . Me, did you find it funny . Now qatar, the situation qatar, we know the situation here, dont we . Of course, they have a lot of have been doing a lot of negotiation. Theyre quite close when hamas. Theyve when it comes to hamas. Theyve been doing some good work. I have say, when it comes to have to say, when it comes to working them to get some working with them to get some hostages released and all the rest but of course, qatar rest of it. But of course, qatar is hamas leaders, is to home many hamas leaders, has for quite a long time. Has been for quite a long time. Qatar also has fingers in a lot of pies here in the uk and its about to expand those tentacles as hundreds of millions of pounds , to be precise, into pounds, to be precise, into canary wharf in london. Many people have said now actually that perhaps the uk shouldnt be doing more business with a country like qatar when they are so close knit with with a terrorist organisation such as hamas. What about you . What do you make to it . Well, 150 years ago, if i can just bring a little bit of history in here, people would have said that about britain as well. Theyd have said , youre well. Theyd have said, youre a country people like karl country where people like karl marx and other revolutionaries could and the british could sit there and the British Museum library writing their poisonous bilge and plotting revolution against the russian empire, which many of them had escaped. Right. And so on. And wed say, yeah, because were a free country. Were a free country. And people, as long as they keep the law here, people can say and write what they want. And we would be regarded as great leftist harbour of as the great leftist harbour of terrorists in those days. But it terrorists in those days. But it was because we had attitude was because we had an attitude of qatar is basically of freedom. Qatar is basically a friend this country. We all friend of this country. We all right, so theyve got hamas there, least know there, but at least you know where they are, which is actually quite good. And even the israelis need links to talk to hamas at some i know that never talk to them publicly but at some stages in the past and before this event happened, they would have had links, conversations with qatar at various with with hamas at various with with hamas at various stages. And its good to know where people are. And you can have channels of communication. And i dont think qatar a poisonous state in qatar is a poisonous state in any sense at all. What gets me is the stinking hypocnsy what gets me is the stinking hypocrisy of it, that, you know, we just exhibit double standards the whole time in this country as a matter of our Foreign Policy, we condemn china not without reason. We condemn iran , without reason. We condemn iran, not without reason. We talk about certain countries being , about certain countries being, you know, the axis of evil and language like that because of their appalling human rights records. And at the same time , records. And at the same time, we are very happy to trade with countries that themselves have got appalling human rights records and are guilty. When you records and are guilty. When you look at reports from amnesty or the like are guilty of appalling human rights abuses, the likes of qatar, the likes of saudi arabia. Now, i think that theres an argument to say , theres an argument to say, look, if a country , you know, it look, if a country, you know, it might be a dictatorship, it might be a dictatorship, it might have had a bad human rights record. But if its going in the right direction, if the direction of travel is correct , direction of travel is correct, then theres an argument to say, look, we should think about engaging with that country in a kind of diplomatic sense, in a trading sense, to help encourage them, you know, to come into the fold a little bit more. But fold a little bit more. But where countries i dont think have got any interest in doing that sort of thing. I think saudi arabia is probably one of those countries is then its hard to see why we should have such Close Relationships with some of those countries when, as i said, we condemn other countries who do exactly the same thing. So i just think , you same thing. So i just think, you know, when we hear politicians talk , robin cook famously talks talk, robin cook famously talks in the 90s about if labour ever came to power, it would have an ethical Foreign Policy that was fatal. I think i think most people this country would people in this country would like an ethical foreign like to see an ethical Foreign Policy weve just never had. But he it would be fatal. He says it would be fatal. Why it. That was a why we had it. That was a huge mistake its really huge mistake and its really damaged that robin cook damaged britain that robin cook put in place we put that in place because we think that our job is to go around virtue signalling around the its going the world, thinking its going to some effect. And of to have some effect. And of course, we end with total course, we end up with total inconsistency a result. I inconsistency as a result. I mean, one of the countries we wouldnt investment from wouldnt take investment from in if insistent on if we were really insistent on human rights is the United States as well. Have they states as well. They have they have executions. And thats have executions. And thats contrary european contrary to the European Convention on human rights. We shouldnt money with shouldnt touch their money with a all. But of course, a bargepole all. But of course, we because that whole we carry on because that whole approach our job to go approach that our job is to go around uselessly condemning people having no effect on people and having no effect on them whatsoever and making ourselves look like pompous prigs the world. Surely prigs around the world. Surely thats course. Our thats run its course. Our ethical Foreign Policy is to do the best for the people of britain. Thats what the Foreign Office should be doing. Im saying daniel, and we should be trading. Trading. We we should be trading. We should be trading with countries , view, irrespective of , in my view, irrespective of issues with human rights. Issues to do with human rights. We should we shouldnt be trading with them trading trading with them if trading with is damaging our with them is damaging our national are National Security. There are things shouldnt selling things we shouldnt be selling to countries tech things, to countries high tech things, things we shouldnt be buying from like, know, from china. Like, you know, there all their that they there all their kit that they put mobile phones, masks and put in mobile phones, masks and all sort stuff because all that sort of stuff because there are National Security issues it but this issues about it. But this idea that actually having some that were actually having some effect on making the world better were going better because were going around waving whole around waving flags the whole time shouting at people and time and shouting at people and looking idiotic, you cant totally run its course. You cant as a country be a moral vacuum when it comes to these questions, when it comes to know the moral moral vacuum. I dont think the moral principle, the moral principle is othennise a moral principle is othennise a moral principle is that were obliged to do the best to respond to it. Excuse me. You cannot do excuse me. You cannot do talking over on this program because no one can hear you. Im trying to respond. Im trying to respond. Go on. Cannot be a moral go on. You cannot be a moral vacuum , least if you want vacuum, at least not if you want to maintain credibility and integrity on the International Stage and in fact, on the domestic stage as well. If you get a Prime Minister stand up one moment and say you know, chinese authorities know, the chinese authorities are absolutely wicked, at are absolutely wicked, look at what doing to the uyghur what theyre doing to the uyghur muslims, for example. Look at what doing women in what theyre doing to women in iran. Look these rights iran. Look at these human rights abuses. Then says, oh, abuses. But then says, oh, actually, know, with saudi actually, you know, with saudi arabia, do similar sorts of arabia, they do similar sorts of stuff similar arabia, they do similar sorts of stuff stuff. Similar arabia, they do similar sorts of stuff stuff. But similar arabia, they do similar sorts of stuff stuff. But werenilar arabia, they do similar sorts of stuff stuff. But were going sorts of stuff. But were going to back from were to stand back from that. Were not going to talk about that because weve trading because weve got trading interests. Then credibility because weve got trading inteiyour then credibility because weve got trading inteiyour integrity. Credibility because weve got trading inteiyour integrity. I credibility because weve got trading inteiyour integrity. I thinkiility because weve got trading inteiyour integrity. I think as. Y and your integrity. I think as a government simply falls away. Look agree look at libya. Well, i agree with you. Libya. Libya with you. Look at libya. Libya was enemy. Was an enemy. What im saying in exactly what im saying in the 1980s. At libya in terms of look at libya in terms of what it terms of support what it did in terms of support for the ira, in terms of the lockerbie bombing and its involvement in libya. Then Tony Lockerbie bombing and its involiisnent in libya. Then Tony Lockerbie bombing and its involiis standingibya. Then Tony Lockerbie bombing and its involiis standing next then Tony Lockerbie bombing and its involiis standing next to en tony blair is standing next to gaddafi in a tent looking as if theyre friends. Cant theyre best friends. You cant have have a vacuous have a you cant have a vacuous sorry policy like you are condemning. Not my policy. Youre condemning policy. Im condemning your own policy. Im saying yes, its ludicrous. Its ludicrous what youre doing. You should there should be clear, consistent. See, the foreign consistent. See, the Foreign Policy of this country should be conducted in the best interests of the people of this country. Of the people of this country. Thats the moral principle. It should rest on. And we should not be going around choosing between countries between Different Countries whether good or bad. On whether theyre good or bad. On that basis. Theres no what you want to a consistent basis. You would fail to trade with regardless of the regime , regardless of the regime, regardless of the regime, regardless of the regime, regardless of whats going on in terms human rights. They terms of human rights. If they if a fast buck out if we can earn a fast buck out of earn a fast buck if of them, we earn a fast buck if we can. If we can trade you know what im country. If we can trade with countries profitably, we should so unless there are should do so unless there are national other National Security or other interests, regardless of what they their own people. They do to their own people. Yeah, well , there you go. Yeah, well, there you go. Yeah, well, there you go. Well end on that note. Do you agree with that or not . Who would you do . You have a red line when it comes to trade and if so, who would fall foul of it and why . Get in touch. Tell me, unilever. Yeah, there apparently we announce that we are going to announce that these virtue signalling these all this virtue signalling stuff you cant even buy a stuff where you cant even buy a bit of cream without being bit of ice cream without being lectured should lectured about what you should think policies. Think about asylum policies. Apparently virtue apparently lots of that virtue signalling at its day. Now, signalling as at its day. Now, according to the unilever boss. Good. Do you think other brands should suit . Tell me. Great again. Your listening to gb news radio show. Gb news radio show. Hi there, im michelle drew brit school seven lord Daniel Moylan alongside me as is paul embry. Lots of you guys getting embry. Lots of you guys getting in touch a lot of people do not like your suggestion about this repeated printing money. I have to say, if paul lots and lots and lots of emails , lots of and lots of emails, lots of people dont understand the point, thats made, sadly. Point, thats being made, sadly. Oh i think pauls trying to say you thick. No is that what youre trying to say . No, because its a cliche to say that when someone says that a country that issues a sovereign country that issues its run out its own currency cannot run out of then what youre of money, then what youre talking all time talking about is all the time were just printing money and ending hyperinflation. And ending up in hyperinflation. And its more nuanced that its much more nuanced than that. Like that. Much more nuanced like that. Guys that are told you guys that are suggesting that at home on qatar , graham says its the first time ive agreed with paul embry. We shouldnt deal with countries or saudi countries like qatar or saudi arabia. Gus says, look, you arabia. Gus says, look, you know, this is all going to come to a head right now. So as a country, weve got pick country, weve got to pick a side. Do we . I dont know. You tell me , why are we still tell me, why are we still allowing qatar ainnays to fly into britain or all the rest of it, cutting links . He says, would surely benefit domestic airlines. So i dont know. You dont want to trade with qatari ainnays at last, someone has mentioned the dubious position of qatar , says susan. Lots of of qatar, says susan. Lots of different opinions on this. I have to say. Well done. Unilever have to say. Well done. Unilever says peter. This is just about the conversation that were about to have now because the new unilever ceo said, and i quote , i believe that a social quote, i believe that a social and environmental purpose is not something that we should force fit on every single brand. This is in direct contradiction. This is in direct contradiction. This new boss with what the previous one said, because the previous boss said in 2019, he said he was to going sell off brands that i quote and not able to stand for something more important than just making your hair or your skin soft, hair shiny or your skin soft, your clothes whiter or your food tastier. Ive got to say, i side tastier. Ive got to say, i side more with this new boss. You know what . If i want to buy a Washing Powder, its just because i want my clothes clean. I dont want a moral lecture. I dont want to feel like some company is telling me how i should live my life and all the rest i just want clean rest of it. I just want clean clothes. Thank you much. So clothes. Thank you very much. So i applaud this new bosss approach. Do you like i pick it up from the last and the question the last one. And the question is what does what does morality come from . It comes from come from . And it comes from purpose. Whats the purpose purpose. And whats the purpose of purpose of a of a business . The purpose of a business is to lawfully maximise profits customers. Profits by satisfying customers. Thats need thats its job. It doesnt need a and a social and a moral and a social and political purpose. In fact, all political purpose. In fact, all that will happen when it adds those extraneous purposes in is it will go off the tracks and it starts provoking boycotts. And i starts provoking boycotts. And i wouldnt buy a ben and jerry and i wouldnt knowingly go to a dinner party where ben and jerrys was being served. I mean, and i dont know anybody who would and i dont know anybody who would anyone that would i dont know anybody who would. You get if you would. And all you get if you tell me that a Buckingham Palace garden, youll be straight there is ben jerrys. Id is serving ben and jerrys. Id be near it. But. But, be nowhere near it. But. But, but, but the fact of the matter is, it provokes boycotts and controversy, in the end controversy, which in the end drive the businesses away from their main purpose. And the people sorry for are the people i feel sorry for are the poor people who lose their jobs when those brands go bankrupt. Point, paul. When those brands go bankrupt. I point, paul. When those brands go bankrupt. I just point, paul. When those brands go bankrupt. I just think oint, paul. When those brands go bankrupt. I just think peopleiul. When those brands go bankrupt. I just think people are sick and tired of the companies and tired of it. The companies are doing this sort of stuff are not doing this sort of stuff because theres a clamour amongst their customers. You amongst their customers. As you know, want to see know, we want we want to see hellmanns mayonnaise and we want to see it with a social purpose. And no one has ever said do it, these said that they do it, these companies, because they in companies, because they think in some its a higher status some way its a higher status opinion. Yeah. And they can opinion. Yeah. And they can flaunt their so called progressive credentials tools to the rest of the world. And actually gain some kind of social kudos for that. And they they know, i suspect in many cases that this sort of stuff doesnt sit easily with their average punter, but they kind of think, well, until our profits are being hit, then our average punter is just going to go along with it. And the rest of the world, the people who really matter, the kind and clever people, theyre going to see what a Wonderful Company we are. But when their profits are hit, all sudden you start seeing all of a sudden you start seeing them back on it. I suspect them row back on it. I suspect bud light, for example , is bud light, for example, is not going feature another trans going to feature another trans model ever again because of what happened the Dylan Mulvaney happened over the Dylan Mulvaney thing. Football club did thing. Arsenal Football Club did a similar thing with messi ozil when he spoke out when he played for them a couple of seasons ago and spoke out over the and he spoke out over the treatment uighur muslims treatment of the uighur muslims in and the arsenal of in china and the arsenal of course has got big commercial interests in china and was very quick to put out a statement saying this is a personal opinion by our player. Its got absolutely nothing to do with us. Status us. So these high status opinions, they will only opinions, they they will only hold them for as long as they dont think their commercial interests are going be interests are are going to be hit, which tells me that theyre interests are are going to be hit, actuallytlls me that theyre interests are are going to be hit, actually genuinehat theyre interests are are going to be hit, actually genuine opinionse interests are are going to be hit, actually genuine opinions. Not actually genuine opinions. Are we just getting old, though . You were though . You know, were just basically just want basically saying we just want your do the job your product to do the job because next generation because the next generation of consumer, younger people, consumer, as the younger people, they are a lot more kind of conscious, arent they, about what workforce ethics do what kind of workforce ethics do you what supply do you have . What supply chains do you have . What supply chains do you is labour you use and how is labour treated all of that. People, treated and all of that. People, especially younger people, they are conscious of that stuff. Yeah, and im sorry for them because theyve been misled and distracted into thinking that is what about and what business is about and theyre going learn theyre never going to learn the basics running profitable basics of running a profitable business. The businesses business. And so the businesses they work in will cease to be profitable over time as you lose the managerial skills that are focussed on the lifeblood of business, which is actually making a profit by satisfying your and they will all your customer and they will all gradually go bust and then theyll wonder why. But you know, of the but you know, one of the things i notice about this things that i notice about this kind of whole wokery when it comes to businesses is adverts. When watch adverts in this when you watch adverts in this country, the demographic that they portray in this advert is so different to the actual demographic of the country. See, demographic of the country. See, it is so obvious and mind boggung it is so obvious and mind boggling as to why the advertising execs that are preparing these adverts dont think they dont seem to sit there and think this is not really representative of the demographic of which were choosing to serve, by which i mean every single family. Choosing to serve, by which i mean every single family. We mean every single family. We will almost certainly be a mixed race family. Yeah and its just not reflective. I know youre in a mixed race marriage, and i wonder, what do you think about that . I think i mean, i agree with you and i think it insults peoples intelligence because its not simply about diversity in action. What we see in is hyper diversity in action. Were seeing a diversity be depicted on our tv screens every day, every commercial break, every drama series that does not actually accord with the reality of peoples everyday experiences. And it comes back to what i was saying previously about high status opinions. People do this stuff. They know it doesnt reflect, you know, the real world. When i see commissioned a new series of the larkin a couple of years ago, which set in 1950s rural kent which is set in 1950s rural kent , which is probably about as white as you can get, and they made it through the cast look like islington in the 2020s. I think it just insults peoples intelligence. And you know, intelligence. And you know, were constantly told by companies, corporations, Public Services, we have to reflect the community that we serve. We have to reflect real britain. It just seems to me that when it comes to tv and advertising , seeing to tv and advertising, seeing people move away that people move away from that and depict ideal of depict their ideal version of the world then force feed it the world and then force feed it to the of us, its just to the rest of us, its just insulting. Do agree insulting. Do you agree with that . Agree with all of that. I do agree with all of that. Im afraid its high status opinions. But id say getting back foreign back to the to the Foreign Policy, its also a matter of parading status to parading high status opinions to gratify a small number of people rather looking after the rather than looking after the interests people. Interests of british people. There you william. Well, there you go, william. And founders of and james lever, founders of unilever , must be spinning in unilever, must be spinning in their graves at whats been going on. White males says. White males says. And those were true and those guys were true philanthropy through philanthropists who didnt need to virtue signal anything , he to virtue signal anything, he says. Steve repeats that sentence that we hear often go work, go broke , neil says. Work, go broke, neil says. Youre all talking about stopping trading with places like qatar. If we did do that, wed all be freezing this winter, literally , he says. Winter, literally, he says. Graham says michel, all of this company stuff, its all about using the esg scores to make Business Investment decisions , Business Investment decisions, as graham says that that should be illegal. Cor blimey, should it . You tell me. I want to talk to you about a lot of things after the break. Not least i want your responses as to what time you think paul got into nonnich last friday after leaving london at half seven. Nonnich last friday after leavlig london at half seven. Nonnich last friday after leavlig lo want at half seven. Nonnich last friday after leavlig lo want to half seven. Nonnich last friday after leavlig lo want to ask seven. Nonnich last friday after leav i ig lo want to ask you en. Nonnich last friday after leavlig lo want to ask you a. But i also want to ask you a simple question. Why in this country do we seem so unable to cope with bad weather . Whats going on . Tell me. Hello there. Welcome back to dewbs co with me, Michelle Dewberry. The bar is open here dewberry. The bar is open here at dewberry tavern. So i say cheers to you at home. Happy weekend and cheers also to my Panel Weekend and cheers also to my panel, lord Daniel Boylan and paul embry. Daniel Daniel Moylan in the break just whingeing because he said its not premium beenl because he said its not premium beer. I dont know what we had. We had a premium beer last week and now weve gone back to the cheap stuff , stuff. The cheap stuff, stuff. It could have been worse. It could have been some ben and jerrys ice cream. Youd have walked out if ben and jerrys ice cream on your way. Times are tight. We are still subject to an advertising boycott. You may have noticed. Know. So youre lucky. Their is are their ice cream is available . Yeah. Are their ice cream is ava you. E . Yeah. Are their ice cream is avayou are eah. Are their ice cream is avayou are lucky that the budget you are lucky that the budget is stretching anyway. Richard says. I mean, i hope ben and jerrys complaining now jerrys will be complaining now that about so that weve talked about them. So much their channel, ruining much on their channel, ruining their brand. Maybe hes beyond suing you. Maybe hes beyond suing you. Theyll suing suing theyll be on suing us, suing us mentioning them the us for mentioning them at the start the programme, start of the programme, john said, business talking said, i had no business talking about to close down bars about wanting to close down bars in of commons. In the house of commons. When i opened my own one here. But richard, youre a smart point out the key smart guy. You point out the key difference. You say, michelle, your is subsidised by your drink is not subsidised by the yes, that is the taxpayer. Yes, that is indeed correct. Right so ive been running a competition the whole time. As to what time paul got back from nonnich. Let me got back from nonnich. Let me just squeeze this in, because in a second i want to talk to you about the weather. And before i do, i dont remember for do, ive i dont remember for all have been giving me all of you have been giving me your answers. Phil says your answers. Joe no, phil says half ten. He left london at half past ten. He left london at 730. What time . Im asking you, did he get back to nonnich . Mark says at 10 am, phils phils says at 10 am, phils phils says 10 30 pm, nick says 6 30 pm. And royston says 10 45 pm. Simon says 3 30 am. Peter says. Simon says 3 30 am. Peter says. 7 35 am. Tina says one minute past midnight. 7 35 am. Tina says one minute past midnight. What time did he past midnight. What time did he get home . I think peters the closest l, i think peters the closest i, as you said, left Liverpool Street at 730 in the evening after the show and i arrived at nonnich station at 740. The following morning, 740 usually takes me two hours. It took me over 12 hours, so you had to sleep on that trip. It became the london to nonnich sleeper. See, that is disgrace. Awful, isnt it . When you get a pullman car for the price of a day return, nationalise. Nationalise. The railways already alan slogan. Already alan slogan. I mean loads. I mean loads. Loads of you did put suggestions in, so i apologise if i didnt read your suggestion. Now, alan said i want to guess that it was 1245, but i dont want a signed picture of paul. Well, thats a bit harsh, wouldnt have happenedin bit harsh, wouldnt have happened in the days of british rail. You know, weve been half hour us curly hour delay giving us some curly sandwiches wed have been on sandwiches and wed have been on our. So sandwiches and wed have been on our. So these look at all our way. So these look at all these and these money these privateers and these money grabbers. Eyed, back to grabbers. Misty eyed, back to the days of everything being state. State owned. I go, it was the look, before i go, it was the weather that the chaos on weather that caused the chaos on that cant over that journey. I cant get over it. I cannot believe that he didnt back that time. Didnt get back until that time. The following day. So im just wanting ask why are we in wanting to ask why are we in this seemingly this country seemingly so bad at managing bad because we managing bad weather . Because we dont invest in infrastructure. Dont invest in infrastructure. Number one, were well behind when it comes to investment in infrastructure compared to many other western countries. Were terrible at planning and we are riddled with bureaucracy , riddled with bureaucracy, sometimes unnecessary bureaucracy. Not all red tape is bureaucracy. Not all red tape is bad when it comes to things like health and safety and china get it done straight away. We dont. Those are my reasons. Daniel. I think the premise is wrong. We dont we dont actually. Were quite good at managing these things. And they happenin managing these things. And they happen in a rare and occasional basis and if you could invest, we do invest a lot of money in flood defences, the Environment Agency is building new flood defences they defences every year and they have quite big budget for it have quite a big budget for it and maintaining and strengthening defences. Strengthening flood defences. But you actually ask but when you actually ask yourself question , you know, yourself the question, you know, could you ever make this country proof against floods so thered never be a flood again, however hard it rained, what would it cost to do that . And the answer is it would never be worth doing that. It is always going to be cheaper that some people suffering clean up. I always i cant not talk about this if im going to reference floods. Two thousand and seven, the awful floods , it and seven, the awful floods, it really did impact whole. I will never forget one of my school friends, michael bonner. He very, died within very, very sadly died within those floods. And it was those floods. And it was i remember it so well. The footage was broadcast on sky news. He was broadcast on sky news. He was stuck. His foot was stuck in a stone storm drain. It was a very nice lad. Was michael bonnenl very nice lad. Was michael bonner. I will never forget that. Him. Whos this . Martin . That. Him. Whos this . Martin . He says, michelle, the weather in this country has sometimes always been iffy, but its the media these days is to blame for all of this. They talk all this stuff up and then they put the frighteners on us all with all sorts of warnings , he says. We sorts of warnings, he says. We are now all becoming a nation of drama queens. But obviously bad weather, as ive just given one small example, you know , it does small example, you know, it does kill on the subject of Boris Johnson. So many of you are absolutely delighted that Boris Johnson will soon be hosting a programme on this channel. Rem says, we love boris. Great news. We cannot wait, wait, archie says brilliant news again. I says brilliant news again. I cannot wait. Christine says. Cannot wait. Christine says. Fantastic. Good gb news says. John says , i firmly believe this john says, i firmly believe this is a grave mistake by gb news and employing boris to this channel, charles says youre brilliant channel will now be undermined by allowing mr johnson to appear. I wont be watching him , he says. There you watching him, he says. There you go. Divided opinions. All views. Welcome on gb news. Hes talking about the councils. James says about the councils. James says the overheads in the councils are far too high, too many staff up. Paul says our council has spent thousands on 20 mile an hour signs but left the roads full of potholes. That is wasteful councils for you, tony. Look at all these gold plated pensions. Then you will get some pensions. Then you will get some idea of where all this money is going. You make a very good point. So you do look to absolutely flies, doesnt it, when you are having fun . Even if its got cheap beer. But lord moylan, thank you very much for your time. Thank you, michelle. Thank you, michelle. Tonight, paul embery, thank you at home. Thank you you to yours at home. Thank you to very important that to you guys.
