Breakfast on. Gb news. Well tens of thousands of civilians in the gaza strip are fleeing south right now after israel gave palestinians living there just 24 hours to leave. Yesterday , the idf told over yesterday, the idf told over 1 million gazans to flee from the northern half of the strip to south of wadi gaza. The United Nations says the order is horrendous. Well , before that order was well, before that order was given, over 400,000 palestinians had been displaced because of fighting and the death toll in gaza from israeli airstrikes had risen to over 1900. The israeli Prime Minister, netanyahu , said last night that netanyahu, said last night that the week long bombardment of gaza was only the beginning. And gaza was only the beginning. And the otzma we are striking at our enemies with unprecedented might. I emphasise this is just the beginning. Our enemies have only begun paying the price. I wont detail what is yet to come , but detail what is yet to come, but i tell you this is only the beginning. Well as israeli beginning. Well as Israeli Defence forces fight on all fronts, civilian volunteers are stepping up to fill logistical gaps. People across the country have been providing vital kit and equipment to soldiers and civilians on all fronts. In central tel aviv, one restaurant has become a kitchen for the nations army. From there, Charlie Peters reports. There, Charlie Peters reports. An army marches on its stomach. But as the israeli stomach. But as the Israeli Military mobilises over 360,000 reservists keeping every soldier fed and fighting fit is a major challenge. Last week, this challenge. Last week, this restaurant was doing business in peace. But now its a kitchen for the troops. For the troops. We are packing food for soldiers and the people from the south and we came here. Weve been here all week. Theres nothing we can do. Right now nothing we can do. Right now were in war. We just want to do good to people. And the soldiers and tell them thanks that theyre watching us and taking care of while were here. Care of us while were here. As the idf activates hundreds of thousands of reservists and sends soldiers to all corners of the country to defend itself, it is requiring civilians to step up and provide supplies. And up and provide supplies. And this is where the supplies are heading. The frontline in israels war against hamas. Israels war against hamas. Israeli troops are already engaged with hamas on the gaza border. Israels military called border. Israels military called for all civilians of gaza city. More than 1 Million People to relocate south, a Ground Invasion of the narrow and densely populated gaza strip home to 2. 3 Million People and under siege by israel, poses serious risks with Hamas Holding scores of hostages kidnapped in the assault. As according to the the assault. As according to the Israeli Military. This video Israeli Military. This video shows the rescue of some of those hostages. Israels naval those hostages. Israels Naval Special forces claims it faced dozens of hamas gunmen during a battle which lasted several hours, which ended with the rescue of dozens of hostages that were held by the terror group. While the fate of the group. While the fate of the hostages taken from israel complicates the ground assault on gaza, there Mission Statement is clear to destroy hamas. The is clear to destroy hamas. The un has warned that will only be possible with devastating paying humanitarian consequences. As humanitarian consequences. As Charlie Peters gb news israel. Charlie peters gb news israel. Well , lets speak now to well, lets speak now to former member of the israeli parliament, dr. Einat wilf. Very good to see you. Thank you for joining us. Can you just bring us up to date really on what has last night been for you . How has it been . It been . The truth is that we are still processing whats happening , whats happened. Its happening, whats happened. Its been a week now since the greatest mass for jews since the holocaust. The stories are beginning to emerge. The horrific brutality , the glee. Horrific brutality, the glee. Were going funeral to funeral people are being beginning to deal with the loss of entire families , you know, during families, you know, during holocaust remembrance days, when we heard of people whose entire family we lost in the holocaust, remember thinking how how is that even happening . How do you that even happening . How do you deal with it . And this is what our days and nights are like. This is now morning. The morning this is now morning. The morning is the moment we all wake up and theres a split second where we ask , is this really happening . Ask, is this really happening . This this really happened and this was done. And then what . Our days are like. And the sense our days are like. And the sense is that so much of the conversation can conflict terrorism. Gaza war is stuck in terrorism. Gaza war is stuck in the world of yesterday. The world of yesterday. Something happened that turns history on its axis and the future will have to be very , future will have to be very, very different from the past. Very different from the past. Can i ask you, dr. Wolf, i mean, in the midst of this horror , absolute horror, how do horror, absolute horror, how do you even begin to look towards tomorrow . How do you even begin tomorrow . How do you even begin to try to move on from this decades of history. Here decades of history. Here we this is the most difficult thing facing us, how to move on . How do we build a different future . In many ways , the only future . In many ways, the only ability to think about a future is the one that i take from what happened to germany. What happened to germany. What happened to germany. What happened to germany. What happened to Imperial Japan in those countries, those ideologies , more important, were ideologies, more important, were completely defeated. There was completely defeated. There was unconditional surrender. Completely defeated. There was unconditional surrender. Neither unconditional surrender. Neither britain or the allies stopped to look at any niceties as they were clear that the moral failure required the complete defeat of those ideologies and even more important, the reprogramming of entire societies for nearly a century , societies for nearly a century, the entire palestinian cause was coddled , indulged by the west coddled, indulged by the west and by so many others in the belief that they wanted only limited goals , that they wanted limited goals, that they wanted freedom or to end the occupation, or to improve conditions in gaza. Appeasers in conditions in gaza. Appeasers in britain also thought that hitler had limited goals as he just wanted to get out of the he. He wanted to get out of the he. He wanted to get out of the he. He wanted to get out of the he. He wanted to bring all ethnic germans under one rule. It took a long time for britain and other countries to realise that hitlers goals were completely annihilationist. Hitlers goals were completely annihilationist. There was annihilationist. There was rational, there was nothing limited, and when britain under that britain went to total war until victory and after victory , until victory and after victory, after the unconditional defeat of germany , of Imperial Japan, of germany, of Imperial Japan, those those societies were repro programmed to become the peace societies that they are today , societies that they are today, prosperous societies and thats what the palestinians need to go through. The palestinians need to go through a complete reprogramming of century long ethos that wanted nothing except a complete destruction of the one state of the jewish people. They need to move away from being a society that destroys to being a society that destroys to being finally a society that builds. Builds. If you look towards the much nearer future. And sadly, we nearer future. And sadly, we know that this war is going to get worse before you can even think of anything getting better. It must be very frightening for everybody at the moment, especially as Prime Minister netanyahu has has sworn basically that he wants to flatten at least the north half of gaza. So we know that the violence is only going to get worse. Worse. The reason that all of this right thing, even if it were just a war, i mean, even that incomprehensible, you know , for incomprehensible, you know, for decadesin incomprehensible, you know, for decades in rallies against israel , we heard the phrase it israel, we heard the phrase it back al yahud slaughtered the jew and so many foreign commentators translate it back as resist rather than slaughter and al yahud as israel did. The present day. The will translate arabs who say aloud as israelis because they dont want to embarrass palestinians to be exposed for their anti semitism , exposed for their anti semitism, for the fact that they really want to slaughter the jews and what we saw a week ago that when the defences of our army are dead , when they are actually dead, when they are actually given the chance, what they want to do is what theyve always said they want to do, slaughter the jews. And we are now keen aware that we are surrounded by enemies that this is their goal. Nothing limited , nothing nothing limited, nothing negotiable. They want to say negotiable. They want to say what theyve said they wanted and as long as we talk in terms of war and violence , it doesnt of war and violence, it doesnt even begin to capture the understanding that we are surrounded by people who have nothing less than a complete iron annihilation goal in mind, and that is the scary. But that is also also what we need to fight when people talk about proportionality , i. E. Proportionality, i. E. Proportionality, i. E. Proportionality means that our response has to be proportional to the threat. And the threat is to the threat. And the threat is one of annihilation. When the one of annihilation. When the threat is one of our slaughter and that is the threat that we need to remove forever. How how need to remove forever. How how do you i mean , as you say, there do you i mean, as you say, there are problems on on all sides, but in relation on to the palestinians in relation to gaza , obviously there has you know, there is this determination from from Prime Minister netanyahu to wipe out hamas. How do you do that without , how do you do that without, you, say, reprogramming the sort of Palestinian Society dodi but how do you go through this without just actually turning those innocent civilians against you . Well ill i have some break you . Well ill i have some break to you. And this is the reality that people have been ignoring for a century. Thats society is against already. They have been against already. They have been against already. They have been against us for a century. And it has never been about what we did. It was always about what we were. Everyone has always shifted and confused cause and effect in this situation , in effect in this situation, in thinking that the cause was of palestinian violence and brutality and slaughter. Is israel actions no. The cause has israel actions no. The cause has always been our very existence. The fact that we dare be free, free and proud jews in this land. The fact that we want to govern ourselves. This has always been the cause. And for a century , Palestinian Society has century, Palestinian Society has mobilised now its hamas. But it was always various groups , was always various groups, organisations. It is a society, a complete society mobilised to ensure that there is no jewish state, that there is no free jews. This is what free jews. This is what free palestine , this is what from the palestine, this is what from the river to the sea means. We need to finally, finally look it in the eye. The entire society has been mobilised for a century to israels destruction. This is what theyre about. And this is why we need nothing less than the reprogramming. They cannot not be any more against them. There are no actions that we can take that they will turn us more against us. The cause of this pain, the cause of this century long conflict has been that palestinians and their arab and islamic, soviet and western enablers have allowed them to persist in their dream that they can undo israel, that they can turn the entire area between the jordan river and the Mediterranean Sea into an arab state. They can make israel nonexistent. And when people nonexistent. And when people ive been saying this for years and ive met so many western diplomats and journalists who who couldnt believe it, who wanted to say, no, its just a occupation or the blockade or they want to improve conditions. Those are rational, limited goals that westerners have projected on the palestinians. Projected on the palestinians. To the credit of palestinians , to the credit of palestinians, they have made it clear for a set century that regardless of what israel does, regardless of what israel does, regardless of what the jewish people do, the very existence of free sovereign jews on this land is to them an anathema that they must erase by all means necessary. And what israel has done assistance is to try to make sure that they cannot act on what they said that they will do. Dr. Wilf, weve got to leave it there. Good to talk to you this morning. Thank you. My goodness. Thank you. My goodness. Thank you. And we do apologise, by the way, for the sound quality on that link. But clearly it was very important to let her go on speaking to us. But the sound quality was a bit difficult. There hopefully well be able to improve things go improve as things go on throughout morning right at throughout the morning right at 6 16. And if youve just joined us, a reminder of our top stories this morning. A week on stories this morning. A week on since the devastating terrorist attack on israel by hamas, the conflict shows no sign of subsiding. And israel continues subsiding. And israel continues its bombardment and blockade of the gaza strip. The gaza strip. Tens of thousands of civilians in gaza are fleeing to the south after israel gave them just 24 hours to evacuate the northern half. Northern half. And israel says theyve conducted raids into gaza overnight as a full scale ground offensive is expected imminently. Were live in tel aviv throughout the program this morning. Morning. Okay. Lets just have a quick look at things closer to home and see what the weathers going to do for you this weekend. Good morning. Im alex deakin. This is your latest weather update from the met office for gb news. Much colder out there this weekend, certainly compared last certainly compared to last weekends, but many will enjoy plenty of autumn sunshine. There are showers around, are some showers around, particularly over the north coast northern coast of Northern Ireland feeding north west england feeding into north west england and north and west wales. Feeding into north west england and north and west wales. And and north and west wales. And its been a very windy night in northern still very northern scotland, still very blustery and showers blustery here. And the showers here over the here falling as snow over the hills. Plenty of sunshine, though, eastern parts of though, across eastern parts of england, scotland and england, southern scotland and in the far south as well. The in the far south as well. The small of a shower here. Small chance of a shower here. But places stay dry. But many places will stay dry. It is feeling chilly out there, however. Temperatures struggling to into the teens in the to get into the teens in the south, single figures further north feeling even colder north and feeling even colder here that will here with the wind. That will continue ease through this continue to ease through this evening. If youre heading evening. But if youre heading out and be out tonight and again, be prepared for chill as prepared for a chill as temperatures pretty temperatures drop pretty sharply, showers sharply, still some showers for western scotland and parts of north wales, north west england. North wales, north west england. But many, itll be a dry and but for many, itll be a dry and a tonight and even a clear night tonight and even colder so a greater colder tonight. So a greater chance of a frost from Northern England northwards certainly chance of a frost from northern engcountryside. Rrds certainly chance of a frost from northern engcountryside. Temperatures the countryside. Temperatures down close to freezing on sunday morning and everywhere. Youll nofice morning and everywhere. Youll notice that chill again. But again, many , quite a bit of again, for many, quite a bit of sunshine. Tomorrow morning , blue sunshine. Tomorrow morning, blue skies for most of the skies lasting for most of the day across eastern and southern england. Again, a showers in england. Again, a few showers in north wales and for north wales and some for northern scotland where northern parts of scotland where the at least will be the winds at least will be lighter tomorrow compared to today. Lighter winds further today. Lighter winds further south as well. But temperatures really struggling a lot colder than last weekend. Than last weekend. Yeah, its quite noticeable just how much colder it was this morning. Getting up, but it wasnt raining. Wasnt raining. No. So the drive down was a lot easier. Oh, i see what you mean. Yes. I hate driving in the rain. Thats a walk. The dog in the rain last night. I tell you what, i dont know. Interesting. Yeah, i think its very stressful at the moment. The news, the weight of the news at moment. And the news at the moment. And i think to quite think you have to work quite hard at de stressing yourself. And one the best ways to do and one of the best ways to do it, i read in daily this it, i read in my daily mail this morning by dr. Michael mosley, you he you know, the telly doctor. He says the best ways to says one of the best ways to de stress and it actually has been proven scientific because it in your it reduces the cortisol in your body go and put the kettle body is to go and put the kettle on. And its not just about drinking the tea. Is that is that a hint . Could you please be nice . Subtle isnt she . You stop getting to how do you stop getting to stressy at the moment . If youve got hints for us. Got any hints for us. Vaiews gbnews. Com. But apparently one the best ways apparently one of the best ways is simply make a cup is to simply go and make a cup of well you might want to of tea. Well you might want to de stress as well, thinking about sport. About the sport. This were going be this one were going to be talking englands win talking about englands win against the against australia in the International Football friendly against australia in the inte|night. Al football friendly against australia in the inte|night. Aidan. Ball friendly against australia in the inte|night. Aidan. Ball frientgoing last night. Aidan magee is going to the 622 morning to you. This is breakfast with stephen and anne, right. Right. Shall we have a look quickly at some other stories that are coming into the newsroom now . France has raised its security alert to the highest level following the death of a teacher in a knife attack. It happened in a knife attack. It happened at a high school in the Northern City of arras. A former student city of arras. A former student of the school has been arrested. President macron called the incident a result of barbaric islamist terror ism, a think tank has warned that freezing working age benefits next year could save the treasury £4 billion. But at a terrible cost. The but at a terrible cost. The Resolution Foundation says its research suggested scrapping the uprating of working age benefits in line with prices. Inflation alone would reduce the incomes of 9 million households by £470. The move under consideration would also push 400,000 uk children into poverty. Children into poverty. And madonnas latest tour is set to kick off in londons o2 tonight, and its billed as one of a kind experience, which staff say has no band on the stage and a set list featuring about 45 songs in june , madonna about 45 songs in june, madonna postponed the original start date of her latest tour in canada after she was hospitalised, if you remember, with a serious bacterial infection. So theres infection. So theres going to be no band on stage, no. And be no band on stage, no. And shes going to have a set of 45 songs to sing. Thats a lot, isnt it . Well, no wonder shes tired. Yes. I dont like what shes done to herself. No, no, i dont. I dont. No, no, i dont. I dont. But thats just. Anyway, thats. She can do what she likes. Lets have a look at the latest sport this morning. Eight aiden does what he likes. He was here this morning. You were popping your eye drops into your eyes all sparkly your teeth. Do i have to do it for the viewers . I mean, of course you do. Of course you do. Youve got your fan base to think of. Aiden as well. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And i was pleased that you noticed as well. Youre giving away all my trade know. Trade secrets. I know. Making notes. Dont im only making notes. Dont you you boys. Lets have you worry, you boys. Lets have a look at the friendly last night. We . A look at the friendly last nig yeah. We . A look at the friendly last nig yeah. England, australia and, yeah. England, australia and, i ill start with the i mean, ill start with the arch. First of all, there was a big thing kicking off in the last 36 hours or so, wasnt there . Whether fa there . About whether the fa should the arch in blue should light up the arch in blue and solidarity and white to show solidarity with israel . Is precedent with israel . There is precedent for of course. Remember for this, of course. Remember the attacks back in the bataclan attacks back in november 2015, england were playing france that night. I suppose slightly suppose it was slightly different. Saw the tricolours different. We saw the tricolours adorning arch. Then saw adorning the arch. Then we saw the year, the the ukraine last year, the yellow lit up, but they yellow and blue lit up, but they decided to it this time. Decided not to do it this time. And i wonder what kind of politics feeding into this. Politics were feeding into this. I know, you look at i mean, you know, you look at they dug their heels in, didnt they, over this . I mean, there were because, i mean, there were many entreaties please many entreaties to say, please light with these. There light it up with these. There were but just did were colours, but they just did not. Were very stubborn. Not. They were very stubborn. Didnt i mean, they had they didnt i mean, they had a minutes silence. I mean, they didnt i mean, they had a mintime silence. I mean, they didnt i mean, they had a mintime you 1ce. I mean, they didnt i mean, they had a mintime you go. I mean, they didnt i mean, they had a mintime you go. I football every time you go to football these a minutes these days, theres a minutes silence so i dont silence beforehand. So i dont know theres much impact know whether theres much impact to from that. Having to be gained from that. Having said mean, look, i said said that, i mean, look, i said seven, eight years ago when the fa started delving into politics, thought was politics, i thought this was they for their they were making a rod for their own if you most football own back. If you most football people find real turn off people find it a real turn off the organiser the dont the organiser and the fa dont really know anything about politics either. Know, know politics either. I know, i know pretty everyone fa pretty much everyone at the fa and there a great deal of and there isnt a great deal of political wherewithal there, i must so what it what must admit. And so what it what it you in an it does, it puts you in an invidious position because sooner when youre sooner or later when youre adjudicating which adjudicating over wars which effectively the fa had to do yesterday, they have decide yesterday, they have to decide whose and they whose side to take and they eventually fudged it eventually fudged it. It involves sides and involves taking taking sides and this match. Dont this is a football match. Dont forget wasnt even an forget it wasnt even an important match. It important football match. It was a friendly there was a friendly match. There was nothing it whatsoever. Nothing riding on it whatsoever. And think the fa dont come and i think the fa dont come out very well. There was out of it very well. There was a there was a Statement Last night from israeli fa from the head of the israeli fa saying, spoke to the in saying, we spoke to the fa in the last few days. We tried to persuade to solidarity persuade them to show solidarity with they refused. It was with us and they refused. It was a huge eviscerating takedown. Ive head of ive never known the head of another organisation say that against fa before and is against our fa before and rfa is one very quick to get one that is very quick to get involved politics. You involved in politics. But you look at some of the look at the some of the commercial partners, theyve got on their website, disney, on on their website, disney, barclays, coca cola, barclays, budweiser, coca cola, theyre all companies that arent in coming arent backward in coming fonnard inflicting their fonnard in inflicting their politics onto an unsuspecting public. And i wonder whether the influence of those companies played into any of this , because played into any of this, because backing israel looks a little bit like backing the bad guy sometimes, doesnt it . Well. In some. In well, well, well. In some. In some view, does in some peoples view, it does in social world and social social media world and social media world. Yeah, it does. But on the pitch, look, i mean, i can say this, i mean, there are hardly any caps on the on the pitch. No he changes. Theres he made ten changes. Theres a big game on tuesday, obviously with italy with that mind. With italy with that in mind. But you look, i think that but you know, look, i think that when tournament coming when theres a tournament coming up summer when the second up next summer when the Second String on the string are told to get on the pitch and show us what can pitch and show us what you can do, was played at do, this game was played at a testimonial pace. They didnt seem to be much tempo seem to be much, much tempo about if im auditioning for about it. If im auditioning for the for the for the euros next next summer, i to be giving next summer, i want to be giving everything. Set everything. One man who did set up ollie watkins. He got up up was ollie watkins. He got his third goal for england. He replicated brilliant form his third goal for england. He rep astoni brilliant form his third goal for england. He rep astoni ithis ant form his third goal for england. He rep astoni ithis season. His third goal for england. He repastoni ithis season. He for aston villa this season. He got hat tricks for villa in got two hat tricks for villa in the premier league. He scored the premier league. He scored the winning goal last night in the winning goal last night in the half. Jordan the in the second half. Jordan henderson booed. His henderson was booed. It was his first time hes left the first time that hes left the pitch an england player or pitch as an england player or played for england in played for england actually in front since he front of a home crowd since he defected arabia. And defected to saudi arabia. And with lgbt stuff that with all the lgbt stuff that went with that and they made their voices, they their their voices, they made their made feelings to the made their feelings clear to the england fans when he left the pitch, quite surprised pitch, which was quite surprised actually, southgate actually, Gareth Southgate aftennards saying, i dont know what about. I dont what that was about. I dont know hes been for the know where hes been for the last two months, thats last two months, but thats another story. But generally speaking, a limp speaking, it was a limp performance and you just have to assume theyre eyes assume that theyre all eyes are going on the italy game going to be on on the italy game on oh right. On tuesday. Oh right. Very quickly, because just very quickly, because well come back to you for the rest alastair rest of it. And Alastair Cooks retired. Yeah me ask you, how many how let me ask you, how many how many class runs do you many first class runs do you think hes amassed . Oh, idea. Oh, no idea. Oh, no idea. What 26,074 test. 26,000. What 26,074 test. Hundreds he is a stellar competitor at england level. Remember kids . When remember when we were kids . When we were kids . England. Australia always england. Always used to thrash england. Well, turn when well, it began to turn when Alastair Cook came into his own. He into the england he got he got into the england scene around about 2006 after the first ashes triumph for 20 odd think was 18 odd years, or i think it was 18 years but he retires years in total. But he retires at the age of 38. He retired from test cricket in 2018 and he retires from all forms of retires now from all forms of the hes made a he was the game. Hes made a he was made a knight of the realm a couple of years ago, wasnt he . And walks away from from the and he walks away from from the cricket arena, having left an indelible no indelible mark on the sport. No question it. Indelible mark on the sport. No quesomeone it. Indelible mark on the sport. No quesomeone retiring. Many were someone retiring. Many were born in 1984. Not that im jealous, lovely aiden. Well jealous, no. Lovely aiden. Well catch up with you a little bit later on. Thanks very much indeed. Okay time . 6 28. Yes it whats the time . 6 28. Yes it is, isnt it . Yeah. Were going to go yeah. Were going to go through some of the top stories. Should we this morning and a week on since the devastating terror attack on israel by hamas, the conflict shows no sign of subsiding. Israel sign of subsiding. Israel continues its bombardment and blockade of the gaza strip. Blockade of the gaza strip. Tens of thousands of civilians in gaza flee to the south of the strip after israel gave over 1 south of the strip after israel gave over1 million palestinians just 24 hours to evacuate. Just 24 hours to evacuate. And israel says it conducted raids into gaza overnight as the full scale ground offensive is expected imminently. Expected imminently. Switched on. Oh, yes, sorry. Switched on. Oh, yes, sorry. Yes, the air con because its not cold enough already this morning. Absolutely according to the times this morning, Boris Johnson wasnt the real person in charge during covid. So who was . As well find out more in was . As well find out more in headune was . As well find out more in headline makers, thats. N ext next its 632 very nearly. Lets have a look at some of todays papers. And of course, israel very much dominating the front pages. Much dominating the front pages. Yes. Yes. Concerns over the israeli Ground Invasion is on the front of the eye. Their headline, no escape. Gazans try to flee but face israels revenge. Face israels revenge. The guardian says thousands flee ahead of the inspected invasion , whilst the telegraph invasion, whilst the telegraph reports that israel has already sentin reports that israel has already sent in some forces and warns of a powerful offensive to follow times this morning focuses on the story of a disabled teenage girl. One of the 150 people taken hostage by hamas last week i and the mirror reveals that police here in the uk are on high alert for a terror attack as the situation in the middle east unfolds. East unfolds. Okay, lets go through actually, and well steer away from the middle east a little bit as we go through some of the other headlines this morning with assistant editor of the spectator, cindy yu, and Political Editor of huffpost uk, kevin schofield. Good to see you both this morning. There we mention covid cindy in the times this morning. Boris johnson, this morning. Boris johnson, whether you like him or not, got a lot of stick from a lot of people over lockdown and all the rules all the rest of it according to the times, he wasnt in charge. No. Yes well according to simon case, actually , who was simon case, actually, who was the cabinet secretary during the pandemic and actually still is the cabinet secretary, some, indeed. He is indeed. And some messages that he has sent on whatsapp has now come out of the covid inquiry. That thing thats still going on while the world moves on. I am saying that i always got told that dom was in control. How how much . Control. But how how much . I look fonnard to telling the select committee tomorrow. Oh f no, dont worry about dom. The real person in charge is carrie. Meaning Carrie Symonds or carrie johnson, Prime Ministers johnson, the Prime Ministers wife. Incredibly unprofessional messages to be sending to political appointees of downing street. You know, bear in mind that simon case is meant to be a Civil Servant with impartiality , Civil Servant with impartiality, be incredibly professional messages sending in messages to be sending in a workplace anyway. So all this workplace anyway. So all of this is coming out. Workplace anyway. So all of this is coming out. And as say, he is coming out. And as i say, he is coming out. And as i say, he is the cabinet secretary. Is still the cabinet secretary. Being also so incredibly but being also so incredibly unprofessional if the Prime Ministers wife or girlfriend or whatever she was at the time is in effect , whatever she was at the time is in effect, running the country. Yes, i think the problem that they had here was whatever one of the one of the regional Circuit Breakers that we used to call them at the time where bofis call them at the time where Boris Johnson seems to have said one thing to one person and then whoever was the last person to talk to him, he would then adopt their carrie, their perspective. So carrie, obviously easy obviously having very easy access a lot of access to him, made a lot of people street think, people in downing street think, well, shes the last person who spoke him and hes changed spoke to him and hes changed his mind since i last spoke to him. Well, we always knew there was tension between her and dominic didnt we . Dominic cummings, didnt we . Yeah. Widely known. Yeah. Yes, very widely known. Yeah. The absolutely. Yeah. And the these sent in these messages were sent in november was also november 2020, which was also the month that dominic the same month that Dominic Cummings left cummings and lee cain left number 10, mainly because of the friction between them and carrie. So obviously, they had an axe to grind. But its just yeah, it certainly says its hugely embarrassing. And these messages have been provided to the inquiry by Dominic Cummings, mischievous to the last you know absolutely dumping everyone in it simon case and just it including simon case and just saying earlier it must be so embarrassing for simon case hes still there in the office yesterday. This story drops. And yesterday. This story drops. And you know, what can i respect . Can you have for the guy whos the most senior Civil Servant in the most senior Civil Servant in the country when you know that hes like on his phone sending messages in private whatsapp groups off groups slagging people off behind their back . I mean, its just so no, i tell you what, ill tell you find really ill tell you what i find really interesting about this is getting view of politicos getting the view of politicos who because obviously you live in the westminster bubble and your emphasis on this has both been isnt this embarrassing for simon case . Simon case . Whereas my view is i dont care about simon case yeah , care care about simon case yeah, care about the fact that someone whos not elected appears to have been making all the decisions. True. Yeah. No, you dont know thats true. You just know that thats what they were having a good old go at her about. Got very good gossip but yeah i i think its safe to say i think i think its safe to say that carrie knows own that carrie knows her own mind and political. And as and was very political. And as cindy said, had easy access to bofis cindy said, had easy access to Boris Johnson, notorious Boris Johnson, who is notorious for basically swing in the wind. Just will repeat what the person who hes speaking to wants to heat hean i hean i mean, the green agenda sort of stuff was very much blamed, very much her, wasnt it . Yeah, absolutely. And then dunng yeah, absolutely. And then during afghanistan during the afghanistan withdrawal, about withdrawal, the stuff about those in that animal those animals, as in that Animal Rescue think, rescue in kabul. But i think, you know, i do think, you know, kevins right about this, which you know, i do think, you know, kethati right about this, which you know, i do think, you know, kethat people bout this, which you know, i do think, you know, kethat people who this, which you know, i do think, you know, kethat people who voted vhich you know, i do think, you know, kethat people who voted for h is that people who voted for bofis is that people who voted for Boris Johnson, wanted him to Boris Johnson, who wanted him to be leader, knew what kind of character he they knew that character he was. They knew that he you know, he was a yes man, you know, trying please everyone. So trying to please everyone. So its surprise he its not a surprise that he would be kind of not. I just think its very for all of think its very easy for all of these men on their whatsapp groups. Yeah , a good old go at the yeah, a good old go at the woman or thats also a terrible look, isnt it . You know, theyre basically noses out of joint because they are you know, Dominic Cummings was the chief adviser to Boris Johnson. Cain was his johnson. Lee cain was his director of communications. They want to be the ones influencing bofis want to be the ones influencing Boris Johnson and telling them what do, basically, and what to do, basically, and their noses of joint because noses out of joint because Carrie Symonds is upstairs in the flat and hes here and shes the flat and hes here and shes the most influential of all of them. And i think, as we say, ultimately thats what led to them leaving. Stephen, one other thing and stephen, one other thing about rhetoric here as well. About the rhetoric here as well. Its case its just the same in case theres stuff like i cannot cope with this , which just sounds with this, which just sounds like a millennial having a bit of health crisis. Of a Mental Health crisis. I cant this. I have to cant cope with this. I have to go home. Hes going home. Hes just incredibly. You mean bizarre . He incredibly. You mean bizarre . He should rather large job. Should be a rather large job. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. One would hope. One would hope. No, i think this is just winging men. No, i think this is just windog men. No, i think this is just win do you . 1. No, i think this is just windo you . I no, i think this is just win do you . I really no, i think this is just windo you . I really do. Do you . I really do. Do you . I really do. I think its terribly easy to have carrie, isnt it . Have a go at carrie, isnt it . Yes. I agree. Yes. I agree. Oh, no, i disagree. I oh, no, i disagree. I disagree. Disagree. I disagree. I disagree. No, shes a strong person. We know that. As you say , quite know that. As you say, quite single minded. And she knows she she believed very strongly in some of her big issues. Why shouldnt she have the Prime Ministers ear . Theyre married. Ministers ear . Theyre married. But well, look, its yes, but but well, look, its not blame her. Its blaming not to blame her. Its blaming him , really. But you may well be him, really. But you may well be married to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. But youre not elected. And you shouldnt be swayed. Its the Prime Minister should be able to not pay that much attention to political or social comments from their spouse and deal with running the country. Do you think, tony blair never took any notice of what chene never took any notice of what cherie said to him . Well, i dont think Margaret Thatcher took much notice of dennis. Well dennis just pulled it. Dennis just poured her dennis just poured her a drink, said there, didnt drink, said there there, didnt he . Was a real comfort he . Yeah. He was a real comfort and a support. Well you said what . Well you said what . You have his own issue. You just have his own issue. You just have his own issue. I would say that consort cain, and simon cain, Dominic Cummings and simon case, them elected case, none of them are elected either. So. So. No, thats thats thats a fair point. No, thats thats thats a fairthats fair. But it is thats fair. But it is actually their job. I thats fair. But it is actually theirjob. I dont know. Love your thoughts on that one. Am i being unfair or not . I dont know. Views gb news dot dont know. Gb views gb news dot com. Before i implode , com. Kevin, before i implode, calm down. Calm me down. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Well, i heard you talking about this earlier. So this is a column by dr. Michael muslin in the mail talking about how. Yeah, things are quite stressy at the moment and uses pretty miserable and just life in general just feels quite jesse. So hes come up with a column on the various things you can do to de stress that dont involve medication or even any kind of medical intervention. So you medical intervention. So you mentioned make yourself a cup of tea. Very british way of tea. Yeah, very british way of deaung tea. Yeah, very british way of dealing stress , but other dealing with stress, but other ways include having a hug. So cuddung. Ways include having a hug. So cuddling. Oh, i love a friend or cuddling. Oh, i love a friend or loved one. Thats what Princess Diana used to say. Do you remember she said the value of hugging . Oh, yeah. Well, she was spot on chewing gum. On chewing gum. Oh, i hate that. Oh, i hate that. I find that quite surprising. Yeah, does that, yeah, apparently he does that, doesnt because he doesnt he . Yeah, because he says gets cravings sometimes says he gets cravings sometimes when like when hes stressed, like chocolate biscuits chocolate or biscuits and he decides, no, have some decides, no, ill have some sugar and that gets my sugar free gum and that gets my teeth chewing gum makes my teeth hurt. I dont know why. There you go. Something you didnt need to. He makes the point that this isnt just trivial. This is actually scientifically. Yeah. Yeah. Theres a study called levels of cortisol or something kind of university, and it reduces stress. They ask students to chew gum. And the group that did were less stressed or just head off to the woods for a nice relaxing walk in the countryside. Walk in the countryside. You cant beat fresh air, exercise and particularly to go through trees , you know . Yeah, through trees, you know . Yeah, thats right. Amongst trees walk in the woods. Yeah. Yeah. Apparently they have. Dont apparently they have. I dont know pheromones it. Or know pheromones is it. Or Something Like youll be inhaung Something Like youll be inhaling forgive my inhaling now forgive my pronunciation on sides pronunciation fight on sides doesnt right. Doesnt sound right. But anyway this is essential oils dodgy that give off. Oils dodgy that that give off. Theyve been shown to enhance mood and bolster our immune system. So there we go. So if youre feeling a bit stressed, if youre understandably right now, go make of tea. Now, go make a cup of tea. But not by sides but not yet. By two sides have phytoncides phytoncides have antibacterial and antifungal qualities which help plants help disease. When people breathe in these chemicals, our bodies respond by increasing the number and activity of a type of white blood cells which are natural killer cells. These kill tumours killer cells. These kill tumours and viruses in our body. And viruses in our body. Wow. Its good. Its good for your health. Yeah. So there you go. We all need to walk through woods while chewing gum and drinking a cup of tea in your hands. Ill tell you what. A cup of tea in a flask. A flask of tea on a walk in a wood. Thats very nice. Perfect. Thats very nice. Perfect. Oh, no, thats. Thats heaven to me. Thats your saturday afternoon sorted. Meanwhile, someone meanwhile, while someone who seems very seems to be getting very stressed conservative stressed is a conservative councillor called matthew councillor and he called Matthew Goodwin whos been goodwin freeman, whos been wandering around. Yeah. Blocking ulez cameras. Yeah. That we can blame him necessarily. Sorry. Not we can blame him. Oh not that we can blame him. Oh yeah. Well hes doing it in very non non. Well i was going to say non obtrusive. He is being definitionally but definitionally obtrusive but hes distracted. Hes not being distracted. There he is. We can oh look there he is. We can see hes just covering basically these vans behind sign. See hes just covering basically the theses behind sign. See hes just covering basically the these vans ind sign. See hes just covering basically the these vans have sign. See hes just covering basically the these vans have those n. See hes just covering basically the these vans have those cameras these vans have those cameras which speed and. Yeah. And which track speed and. Yeah. And hes blocking them with just various signs. Various signs. They conservative signs by the conservatives publicity. So hes not actually wrecking the cameras . No and in his twitter thread, hes very good at saying, you know, its not a van drivers fault dont make their work, dont make their lives harder. You know, theyre employed you know, theyre just employed by sadiq khans by sadiq khan. Sadiq khans fault. Harrow, which his fault. And harrow, which is his council , all fault. And harrow, which is his council, all is one of those ones which is split by the ulez expansion. So people in harrow expansion. So people in harrow could be driving on one street and then suddenly therell be a ulez zone and suddenly they wont be so its very confusing and actually only week ago, and actually only a week ago, over drivers was found to over 900 drivers was found to have mistaken, fined by have been mistaken, fined by ulez cameras in harrow. And so they had to get refunded. So its again , its just the its just again, its just the frictions in expanding this without proper Public Information in without also just proper oversight over how good these cameras are because apparently that camera that mistakenly fined people was just looking at the wrong borders. I mean, youd think that theyd at least get that kind of stuff right . Least get that kind of stuff rigiwell, think so, well, youd think so, wouldnt i mean, have to wouldnt you . I mean, i have to say, though. Whereas as part say, though. So whereas as part of me wants to applaud him for making a stand because i just, l, making a stand because i just, i, i dont agree with it, but i dont live in london. So what i think doesnt matter. Um and he presumably isnt doing anything illegal because hes not touching the cameras in any way shape or form. Yeah. And its damaging them. Yeah. And its damaging them. But its still a pr stunt, isnt it . Because hes not stood up like this for several up there like this for several hours at a time. Is he concerned . Lviv. Hes only. Hes only stood there for as long as it takes to take a picture. Yeah. Yeah. Hes making a point, isnt it . Hes making a choice also that the conservative see this as real, um, dividing line as a real, um, dividing line with labour , you know, and that with labour, you know, and that there in it, as we saw there are votes in it, as we saw in the uxbridge by election. Well, absolutely. I mean, its where thats where its thats where thats where youre getting clear blue youre getting the clear blue water. Yeah why getting thats why youre getting this motorists. Thats why youre getting thisrishi motorists. Thats why youre getting thisrishi m not ists. Thats why youre getting thisrishi mnot backing down, rishi sunak not backing down, even starmer has even though keir starmer has asked back down. Even though keir starmer has askso back down. Even though keir starmer has askso its back down. Even though keir starmer has askso its also ack down. Even though keir starmer has askso its also labour n. Even though keir starmer has askso its also labour civil war so its also labour civil war going about this. Yeah. Going on about this. Yeah. I mean, is it a poll tax moment for sadiq khan, do you think . Well, i think it could be if any of the alternatives were better better. But the conservative candidates are not very inspiring. So i think sadiq very inspiring. So i think sadiq khanis very inspiring. So i think sadiq khan is probably quite in khan is probably quite secure in although theyve changed although the way theyve changed the there was a poll a couple of weeks put him two weeks ago only put him two points front of susan hall, points in front of susan hall, who youre right, is not a great candidate, know. Candidate, but you never know. And the way that the theyve changed voting for changed the Voting System for the labour the london mayor the labour for the london mayor ids all that. Theres ids and all that. Well theres that. Just a that. But also its just a straight first past the post so if. Oh right. Oh right. So you can be elected on say 35 of the vote if you get the most votes, certainly ulez might well turn out to be his achilles heel he could end up. He could end up. Yeah. Yeah. Oh well, interesting stuff. Let us know if youve got any thoughts on that. It is 645. If youve just joined us. Lets remind you of the top stories this morning and a week on since the devastating terror attack on israel by hamas, the conflict shows no sign of subsiding. Israel is continuing its bombardment and blockade of the gaza strip. Gaza strip. Tens of thousands of civilians in gaza flee to the south of the strip after israel gave over 1 south of the strip after israel gave over1 million gave over 1 million palestinians. Just 24 hours to evacuate. Evacuate. And israel says theyve conducted raids into gaza overnight as a full scale ground offensive. Is expected imminently. Were live in tel aviv throughout the program. Aviv throughout the program. Well, kevin and cindy are still with us looking at whats inside the papers at the moment. And kevin , you found this story and kevin, you found this story about the novichok house in salisbury. Yeah yeah, i was absolutely stunned to discover that that was five and a half years ago. Years ago. That was it. March 2018. You cant believe that, can you . It was such a long time ago, but pre pandemic everythings. Pre pandemic everythings. Yes, the time has changed. Yes, the time has changed. But of course, this was where the two people it was i cant remember their names now. Yes. He was a former kgb, sergei skripal, and daughter yulia. Skripal, and his daughter yulia. So they were lived in the house obviously they became house and obviously they became incredibly ill. Nearly died. Yeah from what we later found was novichok. Novichok that was was novichok. Novichok that was on the door handle on the door handle and exactly. Handle and exactly. They were found on a park and they were found on a park bench, ill. But they bench, desperately ill. But they they did survive. But obviously, understandably , we werent they did survive. But obviously, undersinndably , we werent they did survive. But obviously, undersin the le , we werent they did survive. But obviously, undersin the housee werent they did survive. But obviously, undersin the house anymore. And living in the house anymore. And so anyway , it went on the market so anyway, it went on the market the following year in 2019. And nobody interested. Nobody interested. But it turns out that actually finally it was sold for £375,000 in february this year. So theres a Family Living there now. It does say it living there now. It does say it undennent hundreds of hours of deep cleaning, as you would expect. The front door and the porch have been replaced. Again understandably. And now neighbours had said that some neighbours had said that some neighbours had said they wanted it knocked down. The local council were concerned that it would some sort of museum would become some sort of museum for their macabre and it didnt need to be knocked down. No. Well, i was just thinking, you know, in the middle of a no, its only one house. But you know, we do have a housing crisis in this country. And if its a perfectly habitable house, theres nothing to suggest anyone shouldnt suggest that anyone shouldnt live it. Suggest that anyone shouldnt uve it. Then suggest that anyone shouldnt live it. Then then why live in it. Then then why not . But family young but a family with Young Children, with Young Children, a family with Young Children . Near children . No, no. Living near a local couple. Children local couple. Young children living presumably quite , living there, presumably quite, quite happily. Good them, suppose its good on them, i suppose its been of that been through all of that incredible deep cleaning then . Incredible deep cleaning then . Why i guess. Why not . I guess. Why not . I guess. Absolutely. But yeah, i suppose always there at the suppose its always there at the back mind. Its the what back of your mind. Its the what went but its like went on there. But but its like houses where, where are houses where, where murders are carried things when they carried out and things when they all get sold eventually a lot of them dont. Most get knocked down though. Most get knocked down though. Not is yeah, but its not many, is it . Particular notorious the particular notorious ones, i guess. Yeah fred weston. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Getting real yeah, yeah. Getting real standard. Yeah. Standard. Yeah. But i think its rather nice that youve a young family that youve got a young family in now. They give it in there now. They can give it new memories, they. In there now. They can give it nev yeah. |ories, they. Yeah. Yeah. And these kids, i mean they wont any memory what wont have any memory of what happened. This is happened. So this is extraordinary i know extraordinary because i know salisbury quite well now and its place. Its such a lovely place. In there. You cant you were in there. You cant imagine happening. Small imagine that happening. Small sweet. Yeah and yeah. Quite sweet. Yeah and also whats devastating is the brit died from this. Brit who died from this. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yeah, thats right. Name . Dawn. Sturgess. Yeah. Yeah. Dawn. Dawn sturgess. Yeah. Yeah. Who that . Dawn. Dawn sturgess. Yeah. Yeah. Thpicked that . Dawn. Dawn sturgess. Yeah. Yeah. Thpicked up that . Dawn. Dawn sturgess. Yeah. Yeah. Thpicked up perfume. Perfume picked up perfume. Perfume bottle . Who was really the yeah. Who was really the unwitting victim all of that . Unwitting victim of all of that . Actually, i near where i live in greater london. One of the houses was implicated at the time in 2018, and they knocked that and because they that one down. And because they thought, know, i think it thought, you know, i think it was an ex Russian Oligarch as well, there and well, lived around there and they did knock that house down and theyve been rebuilding it over years. And now over the last few years. And now i think new new family live there quite there now. But i was quite intrigued they didnt knock intrigued that they didnt knock it down because i think, you know, the would have been know, the plan would have been just it immediately. Know, the plan would have been just i it immediately. Know, the plan would have been justi if it immediately. Know, the plan would have been just i if you nmediately. Know, the plan would have been just i if you replace. Ely. Know, the plan would have been just i if you replace the but i guess if you replace the doon but i guess if you replace the door, well, yeah. Yeah yeah, door, well, yeah. Yeah but yeah, i really have to trust i mean, you really have to trust the cleaners, dont you . Do. Im glad well, you do. Im glad theyre it, though. And im theyre in it, though. And im glad you know. Good. Lovely family home ulez khalife. Family home and ulez khalife. Lets foreign aid. Should lets talk foreign aid. Should we . Cindy this in the we . Cindy this is in the guardian this morning. £2 guardian this morning. £2 billion of uk foreign aid has been on its climate aid has been channelled through cancer agencies. Yeah. So look, i mean, when youre a young graduate, all these consultancies overseas come to you like mckinsey or kpmg, pricewaterhousecoopers and say you can be doing Amazing Things around the world. You know, you could be going to africa helping them with their climate crisis. You can be going here, going there, and actually what the reverse side of that coin is, governments paying these these huge these consultants, these huge amount through tax amount of money through tax payers money to tackle these local issues, but that wouldnt actually local Charities Say this money would better spent this money would be better spent directly charities , directly going into charities, going to communities rather than these western middlemen who are going to come into a problem afresh and think that they can solve everything and then leave after six months. So you know, £2 billion are being channelled through consultancies, to be fair, 2010. So thats 13 fair, since 2010. So thats 13 years ago. But you know, some quick maths thats just under £200 million a year spent on consultancies or foreign aid when it could be going to local communities directly. So the question is how useful are these consultancies . Are they any good at what they. Yeah, exactly. I mean, just this week kpmg was thats one of the consultancies named here just this week, kpmg was fined for carillion for not properly auditing that giant firms failure back. I think that was also back in 2018 or 2019. So you know, theres real questions over just how effective of these people being brought in from the outside really are when so much money is being spent on them. Always wonder about you always do wonder about consultancies, dont you, because in the because you hear people in the city wonderful jobs with city getting wonderful jobs with consultancies and theyre paid an fortune and you an absolute fortune and you wonder they wonder what they do. And all taxpayers money and its all taxpayers money as well. Well, know, its all come well, you know, its all come from us. And similar. And thats similar. And thats similar. There is a question, isnt there, if how do you give there, as to if how do you give money directly to these communities and make sure it is managed and spent in the way that it should be . Yeah, absolutely. I mean, the un is obviously another one of those giant organisations which is not necessarily good money, necessarily a good use of money, but you i think but actually, you know, i think there meant to be local there are meant to be local charities with experience charities with local experience who desperate for this kind who are desperate for this kind of youre right, it will of money. Youre right, it will be less centralised and youll have to really kind of do your homework know whos reliable, homework to know whos reliable, whos the good stuff. But whos doing the good stuff. But maybe its worthwhile spend maybe its worthwhile to spend that of that money on that kind of stuff. Oh, talking of money. Talking of money, what do you make of this . Its front page of the this . And its front page of the sun this morning, £9 million. The bbc, bbc studios have paid out to Freddie Flintoff over his top gear accident. Look, hes top gear accident. Look, hes clearly been very seriously injured , but £9 million of injured, but £9 million of taxpayers money, basically, isnt it . Well, it doesnt make you think its not to criticise him, but it still seems a bit weird. It must have been some accident. It must have been some accident. It must have been some accident. I mean, the details have obviously been very sketchy and youve only got to look at them. And this is what, nine, ten months on since happened. And months on since it happened. And more. And his face is his face, his teeth dont look know. His teeth dont look know. Everybody talks about it as they saw it say it was life altering injuries. Yeah. Yeah. So you can see what it looked like before and you see what it looks like now. Obviously, theres been recognise him. No, not really significant injury but yeah, i was taken aback when i saw £9 million but obviously his lawyers lawyers, this has lawyers bbcs lawyers, this has been going on quite some been going on for quite some time and he hasnt sued them. Time and he hasnt sued them. And the claim is if youd have sued them, he could have got a lot more. And he hasnt done that. Its all meant to be amicable. But just amicable. Yeah, but its just the fact its ultimately the fact that its ultimately our yeah our money. Yeah is well, i mean, is it . Well, i mean, insurance money. Guess so, yeah. And i guess so, yeah. And obviously have other obviously the bbc have other revenue well, but it Revenue Streams as well, but it is still £9 million coming out of the bbc budget, which is already, being slashed already, we know being slashed quite as being quite considerably as jobs being lost left, right and centre. And but £9 million, theres a lot of money, but he was obviously very successful. Broadcaster this will affect his career going fonnard have been calculated fonnard to have been calculated on two of unearned earnings. Wow. Which means that he was wow. Which means that he was doing quite well, did incredibly well. But obviously i mean, i guess this will affect his entire going going fonnard. Absolutely. Going going fonnard. Absolutely. So, you know, i guess hes hes entitled to it. But yeah, it does on the face of it, look like an extra ordinary amount of money. Weve got to weve weve got to find out what actually happened. I mean, it seems theres going to be some expose as well. Yeah. Yeah. As you say, the bbc are partially at least publicly funded. I think there needs to be transparency as to how this i always think that when you know, when theres some terrible medical problem and the medical health trust is made to fork out an enormous amount of money in a in a fine or compensation, then you think i totally understand that and dont begrudge it to the person who deserves that. But its still taxpayers money and our hospitals are cash strapped as it is. Yeah. And therell be a legal duty on them to make sure that that money is spent well and that money is spent well and that they can justify it and account for it. So but its an institutional thing, isnt it . I mean, the bbc, top gear often was a dangerous show. Yeah you know, so if the bbc wants to have that kind of risk factor for entertainment, then theyre going to of pay out going to have to kind of pay out when doesnt go when it goes when it doesnt go when it goes wrong for hospital trusts. Yeah. If they have nurses if they dont have enough nurses or not making or doctors that are not making mistakes, then theyve got to pay mistakes, then theyve got to pay out nandy, lets cheer pay out lisa nandy, lets cheer ourselves pay out lisa nandy, lets cheer our should after that, with should we . After that, with our angels . These south our Little Angels . These south korea zoo. And theres two korea zoo. And theres two little panda, three month old giant panda twins. Giant panda twins. Theyve finally been unveiled to the public at south korea zoo and the thing about panda, look at them. I mean, theyre so theyre gorgeous. Theyre gorgeous. Just ridiculously cute, arent they . Oh, my gosh. Big arent they . Oh, my gosh. Big pandas. They make little squeaky noises. Oh, they do . Oh, they do . No, experts say that if it wasnt for humans, pandas wouldnt be around because they wouldnt. No, theyd have been. Wouldnt. No, theyd have been. But thank goodness weve got them. They used to have them at them. They used to have them at Edinburgh Zoo and me and the family went to see them last year or earlier this year. And its amazing the queues to go and see pandas. And they dont do anything. They just sit slightly. Slightly. Something treasure isnt it . Rebound weibo. Rebound weibo. Yeah, weibo. Yeah, weibo. One of half a Million People voted to name them. And thats what theyre called. It was pandemic panda face. Exactly. But they are exactly. But they are gorgeous. Gorgeous. Oh, they are amazing. Oh, they are amazing. Oh, they are amazing. Wow. Good job to be keepers for pandas. You know, they are for pandas. You know, they are great. Gentle, arent they . You know. Yeah. They dont do a lot. They dont. They dont eat. But also i dont know if but its also i dont know if youve seen videos keepers youve seen videos of keepers trying to them or bathe trying to feed them or bathe them stuff like theyre just them or stuff like theyre just like giant toddlers. Them or stuff like theyre just like soft it toddlers. Them or stuff like theyre just like soft toddlers. S. Soft toddlers. Yeah. Soft toddlers. Yeah. Kind of manhandle just have kind of manhandle them one place another them from one place to another because theyre mischievous because theyre so mischievous as theres videos theres great videos on youtube rolling around youtube of them rolling around and yeah, well, well dig those out a happy story. Out for a happy story. Its nice have one. Yes, indeed. And well see you both a little bit later on. But in the meantime, lets have a look at the weather. Morning. Im alex good morning. Some crisp autumn sunshine for many this weekend , but there for many this weekend, but there will be a few showers around , will be a few showers around, especially so today and it is an awful lot colder, especially when you compare it to last weekend. Ill have all your weekend. Ill have all your weather details coming up shortly. Shortly. Well, welcome. Im anne diamond. Diamond. And im stephen dixon. This is breakfast on gb news. Well is breakfast on gb news. Well tens of thousands of civilians in the gaza strip are fleeing south after israel gave palestinians living there just 24 hours to leave yesterday. The idf told over1 million gazans to flee from the northern half of the strip to south of wadi gaza. The United Nations says the order is horrendous. Well before that order was even given , more than 400,000 given, more than 400,000 palestinians had been displaced east because of the fighting and the death toll in gaza from israeli airstrikes has risen to nearly 2000. The israeli Prime Minister netanyahu, said last night that the week long bombardment of gaza was only the beginning and boisvenu by otzma hazrat. Hazrat. We are striking at our enemies with unprecedented might. I emphasise, this is just the beginning. Our enemies have only begun paying the price. The beginning. Our enemies have only begun paying the price. I wont detail what is yet to come, but i tell you this is only the beginning. Only the beginning. Well , as Israeli Defence well, as Israeli Defence forces fight on all fronts, civilian volunteers are stepping up to fill the logistical gaps. Up to fill the logistical gaps. People right across the country have been providing vital kit and equipment to soldiers and civilians on all fronts. Fronts. Well, in central tel aviv, one restaurant has become a kitchen for the nations army from there, Charlie Peters reports. Reports. An army marches on its stomach, but as the Israeli Military mobilises over 360,000 reservists, its keeping every soldier fed and fighting fit is a major challenge. And last a major challenge. And last week, this restaurant was doing business in peace. But now its business in peace. But now its a kitchen for the troops. We are packing food for soldiers and the people from the south, and we came here. Weve been here all week. Theres nothing we can do right now. Nothing we can do right now. Were in war. We just want to do good to people and the soldiers and tell them thanks that theyre watching us and taking care of while were here. Care of us while were here. As the idf activates hundreds of thousands of reservists and sends soldiers to all corners of the country to defend itself, it is requiring civilians to step up and provide supplies. And up and provide supplies. And this is where the supplies are heading to the frontline. In israels war against hamas , israels war against hamas, israeli troops are already engaged with hamas on the gaza border , where israels military border, where israels military called for all civilians of gaza city. More than 1 Million People to relocate south with a Ground Invasion of the narrow and densely populated gaza strip, home to 2. 3 Million People. And under siege by israel, poses serious risks with Hamas Holding scores of hostages kidnapped in the assault. A according to the the assault. A according to the Israeli Military. While the fate of the hostages is taken from israel complicates the ground assault on gaza , their Mission Statement on gaza, their Mission Statement is clear to destroy hamas. The is clear to destroy hamas. The un has warned that will only be possible with devasted , citing possible with devasted, citing humanitarian consequences. As humanitarian consequences. As Charlie Peters gb news israel. Charlie peters gb news israel. Well , lets see if we can well, lets see if we can speak now to israeli journalist amir oren. Thank you very much for joining us again. Amir oren. Thank you very much for joining us again. What are forjoining us again. What are the signs . Are there any signs yet at all of a Ground Invasion force amassing. Force amassing. Good morning. And so apparent shortly, the israeli war cabinet had to wait until after the visits of secretary of state blinken and secretary of defence austin in who have been to israel all to lay the ground rules for the Ground Invasion and also for the aerial bombardment because as while there is a total support of israels justification in acting against it, hamas following the horrific massacres of last saturday, there is some controversy regarding the methods and the intended targets of the operation. So rather than a Swift Response by israel on the ground to it has been very, very slow, you you all remember the six day war of 1967. So now the six day war of 1967. So now the hamas has had a six day, now seven day war inside israel without the Israeli Defence forces crossing over into gaza. Apparently this is going to change soon. And today , say this change soon. And today, say this morning, the idf has announced that the population in northern gaza will have an additional six hours from an hour from now at 10 am. Gaza time to 16 hours gaza time along two corridors to flee from the north to the central area of gaza and south. And as you said, the un and other International Bodies resent it as do arab governments across the region. Its interesting , though, its interesting, though, isnt it, that that implies i mean, there is there is pressure growing. I mean, not only from arab communities, but also our Prime Minister here saying, you know, civilians safety is paramount. Know, civilians safety is paramount. And clearly, know, civilians safety is paramount. And clearly, despite. Paramount. And clearly, despite. Right. The absolute anger and understandable anger of the Israeli Government and israeli people, they are listening to some of that pressure. Some of that pressure. So, you know, in earlier campaigns, especially in lebanon, there was a simplistic nofion lebanon, there was a simplistic notion in israel that relocate being moving populations from the border area or from where hezbollah and now hamas have. Oh hezbollah and now hamas have. Oh oh, oh, what a shame. Yes, our apologies. I must say. When you look at some of say. When you look at some of the pictures weve been showing of the utter devastation there, you wonder if there is anyone left there, how they actually get anywhere. There are there are roads are blocked just by crumbling buildings. But he talked about two corridors, didnt they . Corridors, didnt they . Yes, thats the first weve really heard of two corridors. Well, it is. But of course, what is what is the concern is that there are there are tunnels, caves, all the rest of it that are that are built, that hamas hides in. And thats what theyre thats what theyre trying to get to. And i think trying to get to. And i think i think amirs back. Good yes. Yes. Yes. Do do go on, amir. I mean, you were you were telling us about. Yeah we were. We were cut off. Now the nofion we were cut off. Now the notion now is not to put pressure on government. So that they will put pressure on the terrorist organisation be hezbollah or hamas, to stop. Now, its to clear the way to take the civilians out of the way so that they will not be hurt. But obviously they are being hurt by being displayed , being hurt by being displayed, if not by being there when the tanks roll in. And hamas, of course, doesnt want them to clear the way. So they are clear the way. So they are between a rock and a hard place. Yes its quite literally that case, isnt it . And i can imagine that so many dont know what to do, apparently in the north of gaza, there is the main hospital and thats full of patients who cant move. Cant move. Yes. The problem is cant move. Yes. The problem is hamas has placed some of its assets, maybe even the hostages under the hospitals in underground bunkers and underground floors in order to get to hamas, one must get to the hospital , al. And better for the hospital, al. And better for the hospital, al. And better for the patients to be moved. Now, of course, its very difficult and life threatening, but what can one do . I suppose thats the crux of all of this, isnt it . And, you know, obviously we have people watching who who view this from all angles , amir, view this from all angles, amir, but the fact that hamas uses the population, they say they are working for and want to protect as human shields is and is a key part of this problem, isnt it . If there are to going be more civilian casualties, yes , civilian casualties, yes, civilian casualties, yes, civilian casualties, yes, civilian casualties will be the victims of this operation regardless of who is right and who is not. And obviously, israel is right, but it has to choose the right, but it has to choose the right methods to not only to have a right cause , what have have a right cause, what have you yourself. You yourself. I mean, where you are now. I i mean, where you are now. I mean, is it possible at all to sleep during the night . Is it very noisy . Is it very frightening thing . Frightening thing . No, its not very frightening. In tel aviv, while hamas has targeted the tel aviv area, including the vicinity and Ben Gurion Airport and there are sirens going off twice or three, four times during the day to population knows that its the luck of the draw and the iron dome system provides excellent though not complete protection. So if one knows how to behave properly and go to a safe room or a shelter, usually it comes out all right. Even if buildings are being damaged. Are being damaged. Yes. But even with that in mind, we were talking to a former israeli member of parliament in the last hour. And parliament in the last hour. And as she was saying, the fact that i mean, this just i mean, i know youre aware of it anyway, but this this just really emphasises how you are surrounded , added on how you are surrounded, added on all sides by people who do not want israel to exist. And i just wonder how that plays into the psyche and the wake of what we saw last saturday. Yes, it does play well. We are not totally enveloped by enemies. Egypt and jordan have peace with us. Yes, we do have problems with hezbollah in lebanon. And with syria and iran and hamas. But we can strive for peace there is some future. Hopefully ahead of us. And all sides in the middle east. All parties have to go for a grand compromise. Now you cant compromise. Now you cant compromise with the religious fanatic organisation like hamas or hezbollah. They. Suddenly or hezbollah. They. Suddenly weve lost our mayor again. Weve lost our mayor again. But ill tell you what, he made some some very good points. This is gaza city at the moment where i mean, you you hardly dare say it looks comparatively peaceful. We cant see anything happening there at the moment. But of course , what must it be but of course, what must it be like knowing that , you know, like knowing that, you know, this invasion is coming . It is coming. It is coming. Yes. And what do you what do yes. And what do you what do the innocent what do the innocents do will be lethal to. Yeah. Oh, it will. And there are people in there who probably cant get out or a lot of people in there who dont want to get out. They dont want to leave their homes. They feel their homes. They wont feel that should. And of course, that they should. And of course, hamas also trying persuade hamas is also trying to persuade them not but anyway, they them to. Not but anyway, they are. Thats gaza city at the moment. Ill tell you what. Ill tell you what. What i and its so difficult to talk about these things, but when were talking to the former member of parliament in the last hour and she was making reflections on you know, what happenedin reflections on you know, what happened in germany and germany and to sort of wipe out and having to sort of wipe out and having to sort of wipe out and then that that country reforming itself to what it is today. And you know obviously today. And you know obviously about reproach grabbing peoples attitudes. Yeah it was, which is an unfortunate word. An unfortunate word. I think most of us dont like that word, but i think we all know what she means. But obviously, we supported all of that out. But necessarily necessary in that were civilian casualties. Casualties. Well, you cant have war without you cant have war without. And yet. And so as much as and important as it is to try to minimise civilian casualties, there is an inevitability about this. But and whereas i feel dread awfully sad about that , dread awfully sad about that, hamas must have known that yes, they must have known what they were bringing on their own people when they when they. But theyd been planning this for quite some time. I mean, there is evidence that they may well have been planning about two planning this for about two years, is, again, years, which is, again, extraordinary. The israeli extraordinary. That the israeli info information people, what do i mean , Intelligence Services i mean, Intelligence Services didnt seem to know and apparently were caught unawares and lets head to westminster. Should we our reporter Catherine Forster is there for us this morning. I mean, where are we in terms of britains response , catherine . Because response, catherine . Because obviously theres been a lot of support for israel , support for israel, understandably so. And yet the understandably so. And yet the Prime Minister has now started talking about civilian safety being paramount, which i presume is a comment aimed at these reillys for the safety of gazan civilians. Civilians. Yes, theres beginning to be a shift in tone, isnt there, from the government here and indeed from the government in the states for days, all weve really heard is that isabel israel , pardon really heard is that isabel israel, pardon me, has the right to defend itself, israel, pardon me, has the right to defend itself , whatever that to defend itself, whatever that may mean. They didnt really may mean. They didnt really want to be drawn on the situation in gaza at all. That seems to have shifted slightly in the last day or so. Rishi sunak now stressing that, of course, civilians must be protected , if at all possible. Protected, if at all possible. Joe biden, president of the United States, saying similar. United states, saying similar. And of course, nearly 3000 people have lost their lives. Now both in israel and in gaza. Now both in israel and in gaza. Now we know that a flight finally took off last night, bringing dual nationals or british citizens back from israel to the United Kingdom. Israel to the United Kingdom. But theres estimated to be about five 50,000 and dual nationals in israel and in gaza. So huge numbers of people and the defence secretary, grant shapps, has said that yes, he thinks its highly likely that there are a number of british nationals in gaza itself, which is now of course facing a huge humanitarian crisis. Now now the government has sent ships to the Eastern Mediterranean to try to help blockade any weapons that hamas might be trying to get on via the sea and concerns about whats happening at home as well , because theres going to be a big pro palestinian rally starting at 12 00 just outside the bbc in Central London today, ending up at whitehall at 3 00. Theres going to be a thousand police on duty to patrol that because, of course, feelings are running high. And meanwhile , running high. And meanwhile, jews throughout the country feeling really very vulnerable indeed. We saw jewish schools in london being closed yesterday for pupils own safety. A really dreadful state of events. And of course , all the controversy course, all the controversy about whats happening in wembley , the football and fifa wembley, the football and fifa making the decision, not to light up wembley in in the colours of israel. Colours of israel. And meanwhile the newspapers this morning are reporting the fact that Scotland Yard has recorded a massive increase. They say, in the number of suspected anti semitic offences in the capital compared with this time last year. And another two jewish faith schools having to close. To close. Yes , absolutely. It is up 5 5 yes, absolutely. It is up 5 5 fold since this time last year. So theres definitely a direct line between what is happening in israel and in gaza and the reaction that people are having back here in london. The Jewish Community feeling very vulnerable. We saw that awful video, didnt we, yesterday, of girls taking down pictures of people held hostage by hamas and saying , what about the saying, what about the palestinians . A really terrible palestinians . A really terrible situation. And meanwhile, of situation. And meanwhile, of course, on the other side and the 2. 3 Million People in gaza that really have have nowhere to go. Now, President Biden has said what is, of course, obvious is that most palestinian towns are not in favour of what hamas is doing at all. But still, a lot of them are going to pay the price and Scottish First minister humza yousaf , his minister humza yousaf, his in laws are in fact trapped in gaza at the moment. He spoke very movingly about this yesterday. His mother and father in law also his brother in law, whos a doctor who lives in gaza with his family, four Young Children, one of whom a baby humza yousaf assef and his wife. Absolutely at their wits end. He said hes written to rishi sunak. Hes had no response. He says hes written to the defence secretary, foreign secretary, and had no response either. So what is clear here is that the government is acting to get people out of israel. Well, but people out of israel. Well, but what theyre going to do to get british nationals out of gaza, that remains to be seen. So theres a problem with that is, catherine, that what what can they do at the moment . I mean, humza yousaf yesterday talking about the you know, the appalling acts in israel. But also saying that doesnt justify collective punishment in gaza. But this is this is a war. And as much as we can have sympathy , as much as we can have sympathy, huge sympathy with what he and his family are going through, there are no easy solutions to this. Theres no easy way to get people out, whether theyre family members, british citizens or anything else is there at the moment. Moment. No , no simple answers. Just no, no simple answers. Just a lot of difficult choices , it lot of difficult choices, it seems. And of course, this 150 hostages, which hamas took back into gaza include adding grandmothers , dragged out of bed grandmothers, dragged out of bed in their nighties. Grandmothers, dragged out of bed in their nighties. Five year old in their nighties. Five year old children completely innocent israelis dragged into gaza. Hamas is not releasing those people. Theyve been told to people. Theyve been told to release them. If they release them, if they hand them all back , then who knows what would happen. , then who knows what would happen. But it seems clear that happen. But it seems clear that theyve got no intent ocean of doing so. So the israelis are going to go into gaza and theyre going to try to get those people back. But of those people back. But of course, the leaders of hamas in one case lives in qatar. So, you know, it doesnt really matter to him. Hes not going to die in this. But it seems certain that lots of innocent people are going to die and continue to die on both sides. And of course, theres the very real worry about escalation. Weve seen violence in the north, on the lebanon border, hezbollah and israel surrounded by quite a lot of states that do not wish it well. Well. Okay, catherine, well leave it there. Thank you very much indeed for joining it there. Thank you very much indeed forjoining us. I must say its very alarming to think that the sort of the anti semitic feeling, the strong feelings on all sides is sort of spreading everywhere now, isnt it . It . It doesnt. It doesnt. It doesnt. The problem is protest movements going on in london this afternoon. It doesnt go well. It doesnt go well. It doesnt take much to stoke anti semitic feelings , which is anti semitic feelings, which is shocking, actually. Ive never understood that. Ive never understood that. Ive never understood why that is. But its historic. Always been the case. Historic. Always been the case. And surely you only have to look at the death and destruction thats happening in israel , in gaza at the moment, israel, in gaza at the moment, to know that , you its the to know that, you know, its the wrong do to bring it wrong thing to do to bring it here or to have it anywhere. There have always been communities that work on integrating and including israeli and palestinian communities that sort of live and work together. And its those that theyre the people that need a lot of support at the moment, i think, because theyre the ones who will ultimately make something positive out of all of this. Okay. Well its 723. Shall we have a look at some other other stories coming into our newsroom this morning . And france has raised its security alert to the highest level following the death of a teacher in a knife attack. It happened at a high school in the Northern City of arras. A former student of the arras. A former student of the school has been arrested and president macron called the incident a result of barbaric islam , terrorism. Islam, terrorism. A think tank has warned that freezing working age benefits could save the treasury £4 billion, but come at a terrible cost. Resolution foundation said that scrapping the uprating of working age benefits would reduce the incomes of 9 million households by about £500 a year. Households by about £500 a year. And madonnas latest tour is set to kick off in londons o2 tonight and is billed as a one of a kind experience which staff say has no band on stage. And a set list featuring about 45 songs in june , madonna postponed songs in june, madonna postponed the original start date of her latest tour in canada. As you latest tour in canada. As you probably remember, after she was hospitalised. Hospitalised. Pop stars are a weird bunch. Pop stars are a weird bunch. Pop stars are a weird bunch. Yes. Yes. They just are, arent they . And constantly reinventing themselves. But thats what they have to do, isnt it . All the time you have to reinvent, never wanting to retire. Yeah. No, i know that to retire. Yeah. No, i know that i dont get that. Never stop. I mean, we were talking about sir, the cricketer , sir Alastair Cook. Alastair cook, whos 38, whos. Yeah, whos Just Announced his retirement at the grand old age of 38, which is young for anyone to retire, really, isnt it . But why do pop stars never do that . Never do that. Never do that. I mean, they make a lot of money and they have a good lifestyle. Why dont they just sit enjoy it . Sit back and enjoy it . Shes sat there in that and shes sat there in that meeting a load of film meeting with a load of film stars and things with her nails and you bothered . And a could you be bothered . The that makes you its the drive that makes you very, very famous to start with and incredibly successful. That drive you. Drive probably never leaves you. No, maybe not. No, maybe not. Kanes Just Announced michael kanes Just Announced his too. His retirement too. Hes in his 90s, isnt he . Must be. Yeah, ill find it somewhere. But yeah, absolutely. There you go. Oh, well, there you go. Oh, well, there you go. And mick jaggers done a big interview in the times today. Ive at 80. Ive still got it at 80. Says, oh, i wouldnt want he says, oh, i wouldnt want it at 80, frankly. But you know, each own. Well, each to your own. Well, absolutely. Id like to be absolutely. Id just like to be sitting the garden sitting in the garden enjoying a bit of weather. Its going to be cold today, least its to cold today, but at least its to going be clear. Good morning. Im alex deakin. This is your latest weather update met weather update from the met office gb news. Much colder office for gb news. Much colder out there this weekend certainly compared lastweekends, out there this weekend certainly compared last weekends, but compared to last weekends, but many enjoy plenty of autumn many will enjoy plenty of autumn sunshine. Are some showers sunshine. There are some showers around, particularly over the sunshine. There are some showers aroun coastticularly over the sunshine. There are some showers aroun coast olearly over the sunshine. There are some showers aroun coast of northern r the sunshine. There are some showers aroun coast of Northern Ireland north coast of Northern Ireland feeding into north west england and and west wales. And and north and west wales. And its been a very windy night in northern still very northern scotland, still very blustery here. And the showers here snow over the here falling as snow over the hills. Of sunshine , hills. Plenty of sunshine, though, across parts of though, across eastern parts of england, scotland and england, southern scotland and in far south as well. The in the far south as well. The small chance of a shower here, but many places will stay dry. It is feeling chilly out there, however. Temperatures struggling to teens in the to get into the teens in the south, single figures further north even colder north and feeling even colder here with the wind that will continue this continue to ease through this evening. Heading evening. But if youre heading out be prepared out tonight, again, be prepared for chill temperatures drop for a chill as temperatures drop pretty still some pretty sharply. Still some showers scotland and showers for western scotland and parts of north wales. North west england. But many, it will england. But for many, it will be and a clear night tonight be dry and a clear night tonight and colder tonight. So and even colder tonight. So a greater chance of frost for greater chance of a frost for Northern England northwards. Certainly in the countryside. Temperatures down close to freezing on sunday morning and everywhere. Youll notice that chill again. Again, chill again. But again, for many, quite of sunshine. Many, quite a bit of sunshine. Tomorrow morning, blue skies lasting for most of the day of course, eastern and southern england again, showers in england again, a few showers in north and some for north wales and some for northern parts of scotland where the will be the winds at least will be lighter tomorrow compared to today. Lighter winds further today. Lighter winds further south well. But temperatures south as well. But temperatures really struggling a lot colder than last weekend. Than last weekend. Still to come, were going to be talking about fake news being spread online since the attack on israel. This is gb news. Now. Its no surprise that misinformation has spread online following the hamas attack on israel and, of course, israel has response with airstrikes. Two sides continue to battle. Two sides continue to battle. But do you believe what you read onune . But do you believe what you read online . Yeah. During a major event like an armed conflict, for instance , armed conflict, for instance, many social media users share misleading or baseless claims, including mis captioned imagery or altered documents. Thats in or altered documents. Thats in an effort to, i suppose , shape an effort to, i suppose, shape the people theyre trying to reach. Well, lets talk to a man who knows all about this sort of stuff. Thats andrew eborn, whos here. Morning, andrew. Morning. The First Casualty of war is the truth , as they always war is the truth, as they always say. Its always been the case. But in in the modern age , the but in in the modern age, the lies can appear very convincing. Lies can appear very convincing. Yeah, absolutely. And seeing is not always believing. And thats the key sort of message. And what they have now, the people within their armouries, sorts of their armouries, all sorts of things, intelligence, things, artificial intelligence, which , which im always talking about, how people say how you can make people say anything in stage you can. Anything in any stage you can. Thats terrible. Lying. Isnt thats terrible. Lying. Isnt that terrifying . And can that terrifying . And you can have audio and slovenia, have audio clips. And slovenia, which their election two days which is their election two days beforehand and theyre neck and neck. But there was a released audio about a discussion with one of the candidates to talking a journalist about how to rig the election. And it turned out that this was entirely fake. So this particular candidate lost and it went the other side. And it went to the other side. It might have been first it might have been the first election decided deep fake. Election decided by deep fake. So key to that make sure so the key to that is make sure because can images because you can get images you had zelenskyy. Might had zelenskyy. You might remember i spoke about this beforehand, surrendering to putin i is one of putin in a video. So i is one of the big things to watch out for, but its not just ai and theres a number of examples where you can get doctored images. And ive can get doctored images. And pve been ive got a few which ive been digging every day. Digging every single day. Theyre sort of fake news stories. You get altered stories. So you get altered documents. One about documents. Theres one about biden, was about biden, which was issued about where pledges 8 billion of where he pledges 8 billion of military aid to israel. And it looks official and so on and so forth. 8 billion, which would have been a huge thing released. What actually this document is false. It was actually originally approving 400 million for ukraine on july the 25th, 2023. And basically they posted all of this out there to spread that disinformation. The other thing you get is obviously things which are mis captioned. So when the basically happened on october the 7th and the paraglider went in, there was footage showing basically it says hamas gunmen can be seen paragliding into israeli Music Festival and launch massive drone attack. Well this was the thing again. This was mis captioned because this was old footage and actually what it was was basically Egyptian Paratroopers were skydiving at an Egyptian Military academy in cairo. So you find a lot of these sort of patterns and things where documents are either altered or theyre mis captioned. The problem is with this but the problem is with this and this this is the and this is this is the perennial with social perennial problem with social media that someone posts it knowing its wrong. But the people who see it and repost it dont know that theyre posting lies. Lies. Absolutely. And elon musk , he absolutely. And elon musk, he announced that on the monday. He announced that on the monday. He said there were about 50 million posts on x alone, all to do with the conflict. And the trouble the conflict. And the trouble is, thats what happens. People look at these things. Some of these false videos are seen 2 million times and so on and so forth , and it gets quite forth, and it gets quite alarming. So we would urge everybody talk about some tips in but all sorts in a moment, but all sorts of things. Youve be really, things. Youve got to be really, really what you post. Really careful what you post. One the most scandalous one of the most scandalous things obviously hits things is obviously which hits the the use of the headline, is the use of children either in defence children in either in defence mechanism or whatever. And there was video, horrendous was a video, horrendous video which labelled with children which was labelled with children in a cage, a chicken coop cage which got millions of views. Heres, heres the picture here. Theyve that which theyve blacked that out, which is horrendous and it looks horrendous deliberately there. What happened . It was five children, apparently. Was children, apparently. Was somebody at their somebody laughing at their predicament and if you check this on things, what the user who was called the au canoeist, i think his name was, he said alleged footage of hamas keeping children in cages. Why what purpose does this serve . Are purpose does this serve . Are they israeli hostages . 15 minutes later, he said correction. They are palestinian children being held in cages by israeli Law Enforcement, Army Officials and what actually happened . Neither of those were true people looked at that sort of story. They looked at the footage and it was actually posted a few days before the conflict even started. And what conflict even started. And what it was, it was somebody playing around with their children, locking them up as a joke. And so if you look and you can do a reverse image and so on and so forth to date, it, you can look at that sort of side. So there are horrendous images are horrendous real images coming the conflict, but coming out of the conflict, but there these of fake there are all these sort of fake things. As we say, you know, things. And as we say, you know, the First Casualty in war is the truth. A news outlet say, you hear a news outlet say, weve this terrible weve weve had this terrible report terrible picture or report or terrible picture or something , video. You often hear something, video. You often hear them say, we are waiting, verify. Yes. How do they verify that is real . And there are three sort of ways that you have to do things is a lot of it is all about trusted sources. Were living in a very diseased Information Age at the moment where were drowning in information, most of which false. And happens which is false. And what happens is you get all these conspiracy theories. And so on and so forth, and can edit forth, and people can edit footage and say, i has accentuated that problem. So basically what, basically its the who, what, why, . So your starting why, when . So your starting point is who behind the point is who is behind the information . Whos telling you this story . And what we do is whats called lateral reading. So in other words, if youve got a story, say, well, whos a story, you say, well, whos telling and look at who telling it . And then look at who that particular person is, their particular background, linkedin profile, if you like other things might written things they might have written and correct it on that and you can correct it on that sort of basis because its always about verify and always about verify sources. And thats i say we thats the problem. I say we live diseased information live in a diseased Information Age dangerous though. Somebody was to believe if somebody was to believe that children in that picture of the children in a and believed that that a cage and believed that that had happened against their race or whoever their family, or whoever or their family, theyre believing theyre suddenly believing something which is absolutely toxic. And its deliberately, absolutely, deliberately there to increase the tensions between people. So these things are being used, utilised. And what being used, utilised. And what i love about this program is we unpack that if people are aware of what happens, i always say question everything you know, im advocate for al , as im a big advocate for al, as you but we know youve had you know, but we know youve had all fake imagery and so all sorts of fake imagery and so on and so forth, fake audio recordings coming out, all the time, and its to get time, fake and its going to get worse basis. Worse on that sort of basis. Are we reaching a point then where, i mean, experts might be able at this sort of able to look at this sort of stuff say, i can i can stuff and say, well, i can i can do my lateral thinking, i can sit down and work out this is sit down and work out if this is real or not. But for most of us are. We are we hurtling towards are. We are we hurtling towards a point where if we see it on social media, were where social media, were just where its trending . Yes. That we its just trending . Yes. That we just to go. Its probably a lie. Well, i think we can do better than that. I think people are if you give them the tools to things, i mean, my to look at things, i mean, my best is always question best advice is always question everything. So look at the sources. I recommend to everybody. News from everybody. Get your news from several different sources. And its flicking its fascinating flicking through always through the channels always gb news background, but news in the background, but flicking and flicking through the channel and you people do you see how people do a different report on a particular story because that will cloud your particular outcome. But if your particular outcome. But if you look at the sources, you turn around and say, look, whats if you want whats the evidence . If you want to look into something before posting something, say, oh, its horrendous. These children are in cages. Of course, its horrendous. Thats why theyre trying clickbait. Trying to do that clickbait. What you to do is, is that what you have to do is, is that real . Some the times its real . And some of the times its easy. This one was particularly date you could see when date stamped. You could see when it was. And you can you can also do reverse an do whats called reverse with an image. You can do reverse searching if you like. So something called lens something called google lens or the i know if you use the tin. I dont know if you use that. I know an advocate. All the this sort of stuff, the time on this sort of stuff, but you could yeah, but what you can do, you take particular can do, you take a particular picture and can you can picture and you can you can search on internet and search that on the internet and it tell you where it first it will tell you where it first appeared. And thats really helpful for helping with yourself. But the other thing is just open mind question. Just keep an open mind question. Everything blindly everything dont just blindly swallow information that swallow the information that youre swallow the information that you thats the swallow the information that youthats the trouble with thats the trouble with social isnt it . Many, social media, isnt it . So many, particularly youngsters, only look to look look at what they want to look at social media, dont they . At on social media, dont they . And chamber. Yes, it and they almost chamber. Yes, it is echo for what they is an echo chamber for what they want believe. Want to believe. Absolutely right. Oh, youre absolutely right. And what i like is and i think what i like is a sort regular thing is i say sort of regular thing is i say this happening every single this is happening every single day. A examples day. Ive given a few examples here. I could and i said loads to producers because to the producers because every single day new stories are coming out. I say 50 million posts on the posts on social media. On the monday the conflict monday following the conflict and a lot of that. Youve got to turn and say theyre turn around and say theyre going the clickbait going to look for the clickbait theyre these old footage. Theyre using these old footage. I and so on and so forth. Really, dangerous. I and so on and so forth. Raneah, dangerous. I and so on and so forth. Raneah, is. Iangerous. I and so on and so forth. Raneah, is. Andrew|s. I and so on and so forth. Raneah, is. Andrew its yeah, it is. Andrew its really to good see thank really to good see you. Thank you for unpacking that for us. Well you very well see you very soon. Im looking fonnard to it. Im looking fonnard to it. A great term that, isnt its a great term that, isnt it . Unpacking yeah. Unpacking the up you. The news coming up for you. Theme for an a new theme tune for an iconic show. Well find out what in headline makers in a moment its 743. Its time for headunes its 743. Its time for headlines makers with assistant editor of the spectator , cindy editor of the spectator, cindy yu, and Political Editor of huffpost uk, kevin schofield. Huffpost uk, kevin schofield. Good morning to you both. Lets good morning to you both. Lets have a look. Cindy at the co covid you keep bringing covid up to date, but yeah, this is this is the shaun bailey part thing we had. Weve got a clip which was what the mirror released some time ago , but covid five. Some time ago, but covid five. Oh that one. Yes, yes, exactly. Yes, yes, exactly. This mingle and jingle party. Oh yes. Um, which. Which. The oh yes. Um, which. Which. The police opened an investigation into earlier in the year and theyve now just decided to give 24 fixed penalty notices for that. I mean, its pretty, pretty clear that was not within the lockdown rules or spirit of the lockdown rules or spirit of the time. So not really a the time. So not really a massive surprise there, but i think its just yeah , as you think its just yeah, as you say, stephen, you know, covid is long gone, but its interesting that these fines continue to be made we dont know if made. And we also dont know if shaun bailey, was tory shaun bailey, who was the tory candidate at time, who kind candidate at the time, who kind of his Office Hosted this party. We dont know if he was one of the ones who was fined. And hes just going into the house of lords now. So again, partygate lots of people, very important people implicated. Yeah yeah. You wonder you wonder when itll stop, actually, because they were clearly parties they were clearly more parties than dreamed. Well yeah, than we even dreamed. Well yeah, its great for the its not great for the conservatives, its not great for the con for atives, its not great for the con for this es, its not great for the con for this stuff to come to be for this stuff to come to be dredged up again . You know, people just just gets people just it just gets peoples blatant. Peoples its blatant. Definitely a party, thats definitely a party, isnt it . W w not theres not a lot of social distancing in court. Not really, no. Not really, no. Yeah, i think the yeah, i mean, i think the only saving grace is that this is just general fatigue about talking about covid and lockdowns. Probably lockdowns. And people probably just partygate just didnt care about partygate anymore they did. You know, anymore as they did. You know, this time last year. Thats this time last year. So thats probably this time last year. So thats pro buty this time last year. So thats pro but i think yeah, but some but i think yeah, but some people were fined an awful lot of at beginning, of money at the beginning, werent of money at the beginning, weryes, absolutely. And those yes, absolutely. And those fines are still continuing as well, fines are still continuing as welso actually its only fair so actually its only fair that continue hunting that we should continue hunting these down. These people down. Getting fixed. You prefer getting fixed. Nofice you prefer getting fixed. Notice some students notice another some students were sort of fined 10,000. Yeah, doesnt fair. Yeah, that doesnt seem fair. Yeah, that doesnt seem fair. Sitting on a bench, you im sitting on a bench, you know, friend. Yeah. Know, a friend. Yeah. Shall we move on to the okay. Shall we move on to the plight of the teapot . Yeah, well, were talking about the medicinal benefits of tea earlier. Yeah, and now it appears that the teapot is going the way of , the teapot is going the way of, well, things that dont exist anymore because people just dont. Dont care so much. Brew it in the cup. Brew it in the cup. We just. Yeah. We just. Yeah. We just. Yeah. We live at such a 100 mile an hour and pace nowadays. As you say, you get a tea bag chucking a cup, pour the water on that you but people its not just teapots toast racks theyve gone toast racks you remember them people dont set the table now for breakfast. Really . Just because its just youve just had four cups with a little hat on. Yeah. Yeah. Tea. Cosies. Obviously the teapot, but also two out of three brits have never tried kippers is not that surprising. Maybe but more than a third. Ive never tried black pudding. No, i wouldnt. I ive never tried black pudding. No, i wouldnt. I havent no, i wouldnt. I havent tried either. Well, no. Ever. Ever. No. Well, no. Ever. Ever. No. Well, no. Ever. Ever. No. Well, no. Ever. Ever. No. Well, i havent, but youre a vegetarian. Yeah. My yeah. My my brother loves black pudding. Oh, god, thats great. Oh, god, thats great. Yeah , i cant. Yeah, i cant. Yeah, i cant. I cannot believe really Old Fashioned that. Surely. Surely. Now , is it really. Now, is it really. Now, is it really. Yeah. Actually. Dont mind it at im being chinese. Im at all. Im being chinese. Im not about you know, not iffy about food, you know, i just eat everything. So black pudding doesnt, doesnt put me off. Surprised that youve off. Im surprised that youve never though. Never had it, though. Never, never. And never, never, never. And never, never, never. Oh, a feeling. A id never been never ive never, been tempted. Never ive never, ive never tempted about it. Its very heavily spiced so it doesnt taste you think it doesnt taste like you think it doesnt taste like you think it taste. It would taste. Never got over being in ive never got over being in beijing actually talking about chinese anything and as chinese eating anything and as you walk through parts of beijing and theres just people and theyve like scorpions and theyve got like scorpions and theyve got like scorpions and on sticks , on sticks and spiders on sticks, on sticks that have been i dont know what im not saying that. That have been i dont know what im not saying that. And people im not saying that. And people just walking about eating scorpions. Its just like god. But then i suppose if you showed them whats in a black pudding, might think, pudding, they might think, well you mad . No, no. No, no, no. No, no, no. You know. Well, you know. Well, you know. Come on. Just oh, come on. No im just saying ive never seen a haggis always scotland. Yeah. Very always in scotland. Yeah. Very secretive creatures. Yeah yeah. They only come out for one month of the year. They are . Yeah. Well, one month of the year to do that. Absolutely. And then instantly absolutely. And then instantlwe talk about doctor who . Can we talk about doctor who . Because to know about because i want to know about this. Happened with this. Whats happened with doctor whos theme tune. So mean, i didnt yeah. So i mean, i didnt know because i grew on know this because i grew up on the naughtiest doctor who which, you so did christopher you know, so did Christopher Eccleston then eccleston and then David Tennant. Of canon tennant. That was kind of canon for know this goes for for me. I know this goes on for much longer that, but much longer than that, but i didnt that they refreshed didnt know that they refreshed the every so often. The theme tune every so often. Well, they its almost well, they do. Its almost every yeah, gets every season. Yeah, it gets a bit of a revamp and its all gone. It went a bit skew whiff over the years. Over the last few years. Yeah. Well theyve gone back to sort of orchestral arrangement were arrangement and we were listening we. Listening to earlier werent we. And what we were saying was though its not as spooky, you know, that the doctor who theme is spooky. Know, that the doctor who theme is yeah. Pooky. Know, that the doctor who theme is oh,1. Pooky. Know, that the doctor who theme is oh, no. Ioky. Oh, no. Oh, no. Ill tell you what. Very upbeat. Have a listen. To these you nicely that is very what youre used to yeah its very much like David Tennant style. Style. Well that still had a synth going through it back then, which was quite kind of eerie. High pitched. You know, this this is much more i think its fabulous of that orchestra. Yeah, its huge. Yeah, its huge. Can you imagine how much it costs to actually just play that bit . Thats probably i dont know. Thats probably i dont know. But previously when it was all orchestral, it was the Bbc National Orchestra of wales that do it, was it. But i thought it was the bbc radio telephonic workshop that doesnt exist anymore. That doesnt, doesnt that hasnt existed for about 20, 30 years. That was my right . That was my ears right . That was my ears right . But its that looks like. But its that looks like. No, i like it. I like abbey road as well. Yeah, it does. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Road. Road. No, i like that. I like that a lot. But it is very its very russell t davies. But then we want it to go back to what it was like. It was a bit star wars y, to be honest with you. Ive got ive never really watched it since tom baker. So. So. Oh, tom baker thats giving my age away. Ive got a signed picture. Tom baker. He was great. Oh brilliant. Yes, he was. Tom baker. He was great. Oh brillets yes, he was. Tom baker. He was great. Oh brillets talk he was. Tom baker. He was great. Oh brillets talk about|s. Tom baker. He was great. Oh brillets talk about average lets talk about average employees. In the mail, employees. This is in the mail, cindy. And spend lot cindy. Yeah. And i spend a lot of time drafting emails , but of time drafting emails, but were not reading them. Yeah its quite depressing, really. So to according this study, the average employee spends almost nine hours a week drafting emails, so thats more than the workday. But only 42 of their emails are fully read and understood by the recipients , which, as someone who does spend a lot of these emails, i find that quite depressing, that more than half of what i send, but not being read properly. But i would just say that this study was commissioned by slack. The messaging platform, which of course wants people to move off of email and into more direct messages and more informal ways of. But do you send very long emails . Because we sometimes get work emails that are very long and complicated and i sort of scan the top line. Yeah. The top line. Yeah. And i think, oh yeah, yeah , and i think, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, get rid of that one. An awful lot of unread emails in my inbox that i need to. Oh do you. Oh but how much of that is just like press releases . Kevin yeah, a lot of them is like mailing lists. You look at the subject line and youre like, oh, thats not interesting. Yeah. But yeah, but why why you delete why dont, why dont you delete them . Dont. I just. Them . Exactly. I dont. Ijust. You see, do i, i, ive oh you see, i do i, i, ive known people. I dont know if i bet youre like this, you know, miss diamond. Yeah. Well, at diamond. Yeah. Well, you look at their and it says on the their phone and it says on the email thing it says Something Like unread emails. Ill bet. I bet you im 3879 unread. I bet you im 3879 unread. I bet you im 3879 unread. I couldnt bear that. I couldnt bear that. Im like that on my personal. Its too big a job to go through them and delete them. Now what . Now what . Oh, come on. 27,688. No no. The thing is, no phillip schofield. It takes so long to delete them. Heres the idea. Heres the idea. Heres the idea. If youre ever going to email kevin scott, dont bother just dont bother. Its important. Dont bother. Its important. Dont worry. Its important. Dont worry. Hes got 30,000 emails you havent read. You just select all unread and then just get rid of the lot. Yeah, its probably yeah, thats probably what im going to to. A good idea. To have to. A good idea. Yeah. I think youre to going go them at some point. Go back to them at some point. Yes, you do. Yes, you do. You always think just in case might be one. There there might one really important. Important. Important. But youre never going to go back to them. No. Thats thats no. Oh thats thats terrible. Thats. Thats terrible. Shameful. That is shameful. Shameful. That is shameful. Now, whats in the now, whats this in the times, about that around times, kevin . About that around the 430 days. The world in 430 days. Thats a great story. Thats a great story. So this called geordie so this fella called geordie stewart, went round the world stewart, he went round the world on bike a record on his bike with a record breaking cycle breaking 22,500 mile cycle around the world. And he got back to london and went for back to london and he went for a pint and he left his bike outside the pub shouldnt laugh and someone stole it. So this hes being held at knife point in italy. He got taken into in italy. He got taken into custody in china , endured custody in china, endured ridiculous temperatures with this bike that he got for a few hundred pounds on ebay. You know, some through thick and thin, even gave it a nickname. And he got back to london and it got within minutes. Yeah. Got stolen within minutes. Yeah. And gone. And its gone. That is terrible. That is terrible. And says, no, its not and he says, no, its not like worth financially. Like worth anything financially. Its obviously its the sentimental. Obviously he it around the world, so he took it around the world, so obviously it means a lot to him and tied it up. Its not just and he tied it up. Its notjust like he left but was like he left it, but there was cctv across the street that hes seen on a neighbours house and Somebody Just came along, cut it and away with it. Its a bit of and away with it. Its a bit of an epidemic in london, believe. Bike lots of places. Yes. Bike lots of places. Yes. I used to live in oxford and there its not worth having a nice bike because it gets pinched all the time. And also it doesnt you dont find it again . No, you never do. You can give the police all sorts of things about like literally have seen, you know, friends bikes that are on friends bikes that are stolen on someones website and someones selling website and the police dont do anything about it. You they dont about it. You know, they dont turn anything. Youre joking. So its proof, isnt it . So its all proof, isnt it . So its all proof, isnt it . Yeah. How do you prove any of it . I dont know. Oh, there you go. Well, that was a depressing sort of sorry. About that. Sorry about that. Sorry about that. Go back doctor you should go back to doctor who. Think, to cheer ourselves who. I think, to cheer ourselves up. Go. You both up. There you go. Thank you both very indeed. Well you very much indeed. Well see you a little on. A little bit later on. Yeah, look fonnard to that. Yeah, look fonnard to that. A few minutes to go and delete your messages now. Yeah. If can do that oh, yeah. If you can do that by next hour. By the next hour. Jeez, i think thats enough time. There . Time. Is there . Get on with it. Lets oh, get on with it. Lets have look at the for have a look at the weather for you this morning. Good morning. And dont concentrate on all the grim stuff thats going on, but we will bring you fully up to date with everything in just a moment the northern half. Its 8 00 the northern half. Its 8 00 here in the uk. Its saturday the 14th of october. Well, today its a week to the day since hamas launched its devastating attack on israel , devastating attack on israel, killing over 1300 people and the conflict showing no sign of subsiding as israel continues its bombardment and blockade of the gaza strip. Rishi sunak says civilian safety must be paramount. Israeli Defence Forces say theyve already conducted raids into gaza to eliminate terrorist infrastructure there as a full scale ground offensive is still expected , acted imminently. Expected, acted imminently. Charlie peters is live for us in tel aviv , israel extends its tel aviv, israel extends its humanitarian corridor to south of north gaza by six hours as it prepares to launch that Ground Invasion. Invasion. And back here at home, alex has your latest Weather Forecast i some crisp autumn sunshine for many this weekend , but there for many this weekend, but there will be a few showers around , will be a few showers around, especially so today. And it is an awful lot colder, especially when you compare it to last weekend. Ill have all your weather details coming up shortly. Shortly. Morning to you. Im stephen dixon. And im anne diamond, and this is breakfast on. This is breakfast on. Gb news. Well, tens of thousands of civilians in the gaza strip are right now fleeing south after israel gave palestinians living there 24 hours to flee. Yesterday , the idf told over yesterday, the idf told over 1 million gazans to flee from the northern half of the strip to south of wadi gaza. The United Nations says the order is horrendous as well. Before that order was given, 400,000 palestinians had been displaced because of fighting and the death toll in gaza from israeli airstrikes had risen to nearly 2000. The israeli Prime Minister, netanyahu said last night that the week long bombardment of gaza was only just beginning. Gaza was only just beginning. And avenue b otzma. And avenue b otzma. We are striking at our enemies with unprecedented might. I emphasise this is just the beginning. Our enemies have only begun paying the price. I wont detail what is yet to come, but i tell you this is only the beginning. Only the beginning. Well, as Israeli Defence forces fight on all fronts, civilian volunteers are stepping up to fill logistical gaps. People across the country have been providing vital kit and equipment to the soldiers and civilians on all fronts. In central tel aviv, one restaurant has become a kitchen for the nations army. Has become a kitchen for the nations army. From there, nations army. From there, Charlie Peters reports its an army marches on its stomach. Army marches on its stomach. But as the Israeli MilitaryMobilise Forces over 360,000 reservists, keeping every soldier fed and fighting fit is a major challenge. Last week, a major challenge. Last week, this restaurant was doing business in peace. But now its a kitchen for the troops. A kitchen for the troops. We are packing food for soldiers and the people from the south and we came here. Weve been here all week. Theres nothing we can do. Right now nothing we can do. Right now were in war. We just want to do good to people. And the soldiers and tell them thanks that theyre watching us and taking care of us while were here. As the idf activates hundreds of thousands of reservists and sends soldiers to all corners of the country to defend itself, it is requiring civilians to step up and provide supplies. And up and provide supplies. And this is where the supplies are heading. The frontline in heading. The frontline in israels war against hamas. Israels war against hamas. Israeli troops are already engaged with hamas on the gaza border. Israels military called border. Israels military called for all civilians of gaza city. More than 1 Million People to relocate south aGround Invasion of the narrow and densely populated gaza strip home to 2. 3 Million People and under siege by israel, poses serious risks with Hamas Holding scores of hostages kidnapped in the assault. As according to the assault. Well, charlie joins us now. I wonder if you can bring us up to date on the very latest situation. Situation. So yesterday morning, of course, the idf issued that warning via its Liaison Officers in the un that people in north gaza had 24 hours to head south of the wadi gaza, a river halfway down the gaza strip. Thats 1. 1 halfway down the gaza strip. Thats1. 1 Million People needing to flee in such a short amount of time down just two main supply routes in the area. The un and other International Observers described the move as impossible and this morning the idf has extend that deadline by six hours, starting just a few moments ago. Safe safe passage, it says, will be continued until 4 pm. Here local time. It says, will be continued until 4 pm. Here local time. But 4 pm. Here local time. But overnight, the idf did continue its strikes in the gaza strip. Its strikes in the gaza strip. It hit personnel from the nick hewer brigades, the elite special forces of hamas , who are special forces of hamas, who are said to have led the attack into israel on saturday morning. And israel on saturday morning. And the idf were trying to push this message now of understanding gaza as a strip of two levels on the top there are all the civilians where they live , the 1 civilians where they live, the 1 Million People in the north currently needing to flee in those impossible conditions. And then the other layer, the layer beneath ground, the beneath the ground, the subterranean network that subterranean Tunnel Network that hamas uses to shelter and store munitions and prepare for attacks in the mornings. Now the idf cannot reach those tunnels , idf cannot reach those tunnels, said to be some 500km long of networks under underground until it is sure that the top layer has left the area. That way they can use more severe munitions. But some civilians, its certain, will not be able to flee. They will not be able to make it. Many are injured, thousands have died. And as those more munitions come in, its almost certain that more civilians continue be civilians will continue to be hit in the damage and in the fire. Whats the aim of this, charlie . Because you can almost charlie . Because you can almost guarantee that members of hamas are going start fleeing south are going to start fleeing south or will have been fleeing south so. So is this about so far. So is this about destroying the hamas infrastructure rather than targeting the fighters . Targeting the fighters . Its everything the idf has said. They want to totally destroy hamass military capability in both output personnel and equipment sent overnight. When we wake up , we overnight. When we wake up, we hear reports from the idf of what theyre targeting. And its clear they are trying to hit both weapons and personnel. Theyre targeting senior commanders first, because thats where youre going to have the most effect on the command and organisation of hamas. But they are targeting headquarters are also targeting headquarters areas where munitions are stored and also, crucially, radar capability is that give them warnings of when fighter jets are coming to south strike them. We hear fighter jets buzzing up and down the coastline. Were on pretty much constantly here in tel aviv as jets head up north to get rearmed, refuelled and then head back down south to strike new hamas targets. I mean, that is a pretty remarkable operation in that you filmed there where we saw the Israeli Soldiers going in and actually rescuing some hostages. Actually rescuing some hostages. But it also underlines just how dangerous it is because theyre in a very densely built up area where they dont even know what theyre going to come across. Theyre going to come across. Precisely. Yes. And they were just localised raids. The idf said yesterday there first incursions into the gaza strip since 2014, but of course, it is an incredibly treacherous operation. Also importantly , due operation. Also importantly, due to those tunnel systems that we just referred to, because it allows the Hamas Terrorists to sink beneath the ground and surprise troops as they move into that location. Its already very difficult to manoeuvre heavy armour and tanks around such a densely populated urban area. But the tunnels and the shelters add a new layer of complexity. And so any incursion when it does occur will be inch byinch when it does occur will be inch by inch and very, very gentle , by inch and very, very gentle, trying to push through slowly all the areas theyve got there because the rocket resistance and those tunnels will provide such a strain for the Israeli Forces as they attempt to push through. And of course, theres going to be an awful lot of focus today, especially as they hit that well 2 pm. Uk time deadline, which is when we could well see that that main incursion occur. But on well see that that main incursion occur. But on top of that, charlie, i mean, theres still a lot of tension, isnt there, on the lebanon border with hezbollah. With hezbollah. Thats right. I mean, this war is being fought on several fronts. And overnight, the idf claimed that it killed four terrorists who had crossed in from southern lebanon. Those would be members of Lebanese Hezbollah. More troublingly, for hezbollah. More troublingly, for the idf, hezbollah are a more capable and fearsome force. This is not a the kind of enemy that theyre fighting in hamas, which are limited by the location and the funding and the blockade theyre under. Hezbollah have a central, essentially more freedom in lebanon, where there is more Political Support for that group. And they also have the shia crescent , that stretch the shia crescent, that stretch of land running all the way from iran to lebanon to allow them to be resupplied and sustained. So drone attacks from the north and incursions from fighters from Lebanese Hezbollah will almost certainly continue. And in order to sustain that, the idf has sent hundreds of thousands of reservists activated to resupply its fighters on the north. People we spoke to yesterday said that some of those soldiers hadnt eaten in four days. So rapid, has the mobilisation been that the logistical supplies for the idf havent quite made up the idf havent quite made up the expectation . This country is the expectation . This country is creaking and it is fighting back . Okay charlie, thanks very much indeed. Much indeed. And had an interesting message from lulu. And i get message from lulu. And i get what shes saying. She says, what shes saying. She says, please dont keep saying that israel have given just 24 hours for people in gaza to flee. Its 24 hours more than the israelis got, which is a fair point. It is a fair point. Its hard to argue against it. But in a sense, its a very positive thing, isnt it, that innocents are being given a chance to go . And i guess we say just 24 hours because the United Nations says its impossible. Yeah. So the logistics are a Million People in 24 hours. And i guess what you would argue is lulu, that the attack by hamas with no warning was an attack by terrorists, whereas what were seeing, the retaliation is retaliation by a state. And so you would expect them to give to give warning to be more responsible in what theyre doing. But i understand the sentiment of what you say. Well, lets cross to our reporter, Catherine Forster, whos in westminster at the moment. And its interesting, catherine, that sunak has catherine, that rishi sunak has said that the safety of civilians is absolutely paramount. Civilians is absolutely paramount. But of course, what were seeing is a terribly unsafe situation. I guess politicians just have to say things like that, but what can it really mean . It really mean . Yes, theres been a shift in tone, i would say, from the British Government in the last day or so since the beginning of this crisis , which, of course, this crisis, which, of course, began exactly a week ago with the horrific events in israel, innocent people being murdered, grandmother , little children grandmother, little children being taken hostage and dragged back into gaza , the british back into gaza, the British Government and other western governments have made it very plain that israel has, of course, the right to defend itself in whatever way that means , as in the last day or so, means, as in the last day or so, they have begun to focus on the crisis in gaza , the fact that, crisis in gaza, the fact that, of course, hamas is a terrorist organisation, yet yes, but theres 2. 3 Million People live and effectively trapped in gaza. And effectively trapped in gaza. The majority of which are families, but over half of them are under eighteens, just children and that most of them just want to live in peace. So Prime Minister rishi sunak saying that, yes, the safety of civilians must be paramount. The civilians must be paramount. The United Nations has been saying that this is a humanitarian disaster for the fact that israel has told 1. 1 million gazans living in the north to get out. Theres a river running across that sort of borderline, if you like. Theres only one major crossing. Gaza city is in major crossing. Gaza city is in that northern area. So is the main hospital. Theres many people that simply cant move and are effectively sitting ducks. So a horrendous situation. And of course , very situation. And of course, very real worries about the situation. Back in the uk now because this contagion, if you like , from whats going on in like, from whats going on in the middle east, the Jewish Community feeling very threatened indeed. We had several jewish schools in london feeling forced to close their doors. Yes today for the safety of their pupils, theres been a huge rise in anti semitic attacks , anti semitic language attacks, anti semitic language and there is a huge rally taking place in Central London today. A pro palestinian rally starts at 12 near the bbc and will progress down to whitehall by 3 00. Now, theres a thousand odd Police Police put on duty to patrol that and temp. Theres patrol that and temp. Theres feelings running extremely, extremely high here a in a to an extent. And were seeing some of the signs now from from earlier protests saying free palestine. Well, that look, thats the message which has been ongoing for a long time. The problem with all of this, catherine, is it it it conflate its palestinians with hamas. And palestinians with hamas. And thats the problem , isnt it . Thats the problem, isnt it . Yes, very difficult and quite tricky. I suspect, for yes, very difficult and quite tricky. I suspect , for the tricky. I suspect, for the police to deal with this protest today because theres a fine line, isnt there , between being line, isnt there, between being concerned about the welfare of the people in gaza and that tipping in to anti israel early sentiment. Now weve had france, they tried to ban pro palestinian protests. They did ban them. One took place anyway. And now the government anyway. And now the government has said or the police understand that people waving a palestinian flag is not a crime, but waving a hamas flag or saying things hate crime directly inside , showing hatred directly inside, showing hatred towards the israelis is a crime. Towards the israelis is a crime. So i think it will be a very fine line that the police will be trying to tread this afternoon. And the government afternoon. And the government has also given an extra £3 million to support the jewish communities across the uk who are feeling very vulnerable and very fearful, both about their own safety in the United Kingdom and of course, terrible worries about friends and relatives in israel and what happens next. Okay, catherine, thank you. Yes thank you. 8 16. Shall we have a look now at some of the other stories coming into our newsroom . Well as we heard there, france has raised its security alert to the highest level following the death of a teacher in a knife attack. It happened at a high school in the Northern City of arras. A former student of the school has now been arrested. School has now been arrested. And president macron called the incident a result of barbaric islamist terror ism. A think tank has warned freezing working age benefits next year could save the treasury £4 billion. But at a huge cost. Its the Resolution Foundation saying that scrapping the uprating of working age benefits in line with Price Inflation next year would reduce the incomes of 9 million households by nearly £500 a and madonnas latest tour is set to kick off in londons o2 tonight and has been billed as a one of and has been billed as a one of a kind experience which staff say has no band on stage and a set list featuring about 45 songs as well. Songs as well. In june, if you remember, madonna postponed the original start date of her latest tour in canada after she was hospitalised. Hospitalised. Im sure its going to be one hell of a show because its madonna. Its going to be one. It really will be. It really will be. But the way theyve sort of pimped it out as saying, well, theres no band, but shes singing 45 songs, makes it sound like shes just going to stand there with a mic and with a karaoke machine. Isnt it very odd , but itll isnt it very odd, but itll be spectacular. It will be. It will be. Because thats what she does. Will be. And a lot does. Yeah it will be. And a lot of her fans have been waiting for a long to see her. For a long time to see her. Yeah. Yeah, itll be her last yeah. So yeah, itll be her last tour. Wish her well. Yeah. Yeah good on her. Lets see weathers going to see what the weathers going to do today. Its do for you today. Its alex. Good morning. Im alex deakin. This your latest deakin. This is your latest weather from the met weather update from the met office gb much colder office for gb news. Much colder out this weekend. Out there this weekend. Certainly to last certainly compared to last weekends, will enjoy weekends, but many will enjoy plenty of autumn sunshine there are some showers around, particularly are some showers around, particof|rly are some showers around, particof Northern Ireland coast of Northern Ireland feeding north west england feeding into north west england and north and west wales. And its been windy night in its been a very windy night in northern still very northern scotland. Still very blustery showers blustery here. And the showers here falling as snow over the hills. Plenty of sunshine, hills. Plenty of sunshine, though, across eastern parts of england, southern scotland and in south as well. The in the far south as well. The small chance of a shower here, but places stay dry. But many places will stay dry. It is feeling chilly out there, however. Temperatures struggling to the teens in the to get into the teens in the south. Single figures further north even colder north and feeling even colder here wind that will here with the wind that will continue through this continue to ease through this evening. Youre heading evening. But if youre heading out prepared evening. But if youre heading outa prepared evening. But if youre heading outa chill prepared evening. But if youre heading outa chill as prepared evening. But if youre heading outa chill as temperatures ared evening. But if youre heading outa chill as temperatures drop for a chill as temperatures drop pretty sharply. Still some showers for western scotland and parts of north wales. North west england. But for many, it will england. But for many, it will be dry and a clear night tonight and colder tonight. So a and even colder tonight. So a greater a frost for greater chance of a frost for northern northwards, Northern England northwards, certainly. Certainly in the countryside. Temperatures close to temperatures down close to freezing on sunday morning and everywhere. Youll notice that everywhere. Youll notice that chill but again for many, chill again. But again for many, quite a bit of sunshine tomorrow morning, skies lasting for morning, blue skies lasting for most of the day across eastern and southern england. Again, a few showers in north wales and for some northern parts of scotland the winds scotland where the winds at least be lighter tomorrow least will be lighter tomorrow compared to today. Lighter winds further south as well. But temperatures really struggling a lot colder than last weekend. Lot colder than last weekend. Yes, it blooming is a lot colder. Youre not happy, are you . No youre not happy, are you . No no. Freezing. No. Freezing. Well , look, dont go well, look, dont go anywhere. Weve got all the very latest updates on the situation in the middle east very shortly. This is gb news its 824. This is breakfast with stephen and anne. Good morning to you. Yes good morning to you. Yes shall we go through all the latest sports now . Is it time for that . I think so. Good morning. I think so. Good morning. Aidens just sat down at the end of the table. Its probably a hint. Massive weekend for the Rugby World Cup. Well, it . World cup. Well, isnt it . Yes, today yeah. Today and tomorrow. Yeah. I mean, this is the most mean, listen, this is the most prolonged elongated prolonged and elongated tournament ive ever known. I mean, five weeks ago, mean, it started five weeks ago, stephen were entering stephen and were just entering the knockout period now. We have this system where this tournament system where england have two weeks between matches. Mean , its just i matches. I mean, its just i know they they they have know they have to they they have to recover between matches and everything. That. Its everything. Like that. But its just too long. They dont get any no. The world cup any momentum. No. The world cup you have small it used you used to have small it used to a smaller pool of teams. To be a smaller pool of teams. I mean, you know, chile didnt nobody had a rugby nobody knew chile had a Rugby World Cup or rugby side. Who else . Portugal that else . Portugal teams like that are time where else . Portugal teams like that are werent time where else . Portugal teams like that are werent always1e where else . Portugal teams like that are werent always previously they werent always previously it smaller tournament it was much smaller tournament and you got into the quarterfinals much quicker. But i think that if you look at i just think that if you look at other tournaments, wimbledon, two cup, five two weeks, the world cup, five weeks and thats 32 weeks in football, and thats 32 teams. I just think it struggles to get momentum. To get any momentum. Know, that in football you know, that in a football match, out now, match, spinning it out now, arent they . Do you notice when do you notice that when england england play on england if england play on wednesday world wednesday in the in the world cup you know, cup in football, you know, theyre going to be playing again 3 or 4 days later. Rugby players bit more recovery players need a bit more recovery time. Where time. Nonetheless, we are where we england had an easy we are. England have had an easy route through through route through the through the pool they face pool stages and now they face fiji, who gave them a real lesson about 5 or 6 weeks ago at twickenham team arent they . Fiji theyre much fiji yeah, theyre much improved, much improved. And they won at twickenham quite comfortably. Past comfortably. If england get past them a huge them though, and its a huge opportunity tomorrow and i believe middleton going believe Kate Middleton is going to be there as well down in marseille cheering them on. Yeah, lets just say yeah, exactly. So lets just say the of wales, of the princess of wales, of course. Sorry. Sorry. The princess of wales, of cou lets sorry. Sorry. The princess of wales, of coulets get sorry. Sorry. The princess of wales, of coulets get itrry. Sorry. The princess of wales, of coulets get it right. Rry. Lets get it right. Lets get it right. Sure, true. Thats true. So i only say that and not to have a go, but because i just think really suits that think she really suits that title. She does. Think she really suits that titlnsheie does. Think she really suits that titlnshe does. 5. Think she really suits that titlnshe does. She does. And she she does. She does. And she loves her sport, doesnt she . Does. Yeah, absolutely. Shes always shes not the first time does. Yeah, absolutely. Shes alway attended t the first time does. Yeah, absolutely. Shes alway attended t the fshesne does. Yeah, absolutely. Shes alway attended t the fshes been shes attended rugby. Shes been there number times. There quite a number of times. But have huge but england have a huge opportunity. Know what . Opportunity. And you know what . If through to the if they get through to the semi finals, given all the problems been problems that have been engulfing last year engulfing them for the last year or Steve Borthwick taking or so, is Steve Borthwick taking over not to plan, over things not going to plan, even for the fact that even allowing for the fact that its been easy route through . Its been an easy route through . Thats pretty good thats a pretty good performance. Match of thats a pretty good perfweekend match of thats a pretty good perfweekend though. Match of this weekend though. Go on. Iceland. New oh, go on. Iceland. New zealand, absolutely. Theyre the titans. Theyre the titans. They are. And look, yeah they are. And look, ireland up the ireland have lit up the tournament. In tournament. You know, in a tournament. You know, in a tournament theyve been tournament where theyve been havent too many havent been too many highlights. Have been highlights. Ireland have been absolutely outstanding. And if you the semi final absolutely outstanding. And if you up the semi final absolutely outstanding. And if you up as the semi final absolutely outstanding. And if you up as well, the semi final absolutely outstanding. And if you up as well, itsz semi final absolutely outstanding. And if you up as well, its all mi final line up as well, its all Northern Hemisphere versus southern Northern Hemisphere versus souso rn got wales tie. So weve got wales v argentina at 4 00 this afternoon in marseille, new in in marseille, ireland, new zealand and then england. South africa. South africa. England, fiji, yeah. So i dont thats happened dont think thats happened before at, at quarterfinal level. I do think it would be a coincidence. Yeah. It would. But also for the first time also i think for the first time we safely say that northern we can safely say that Northern Hemisphere sides are stronger. Australia were nowhere to be seen, didnt get out of the seen, didnt even get out of the pool time. And so i think pool this time. And so i think the Northern Hemisphere sides are in a better south africa, not great position then. Not in a great position then. Yeah, are. They are, but yeah, they are. They are, but theyre not theyre not as good as been previously. But as have been previously. But they turn when it they just turn up when it matters still in matters and theyre still in there. Not been vintage there. Theyve not been vintage so but been good. So far, but theyve been good. I mean, i do. I still think they can trouble anybody, but ireland smashed weeks smashed them, what, three weeks ago . Comfortably, ago . What . Not comfortably, but new strong. New new zealand are strong. New zealand yeah, zealand are strong. Yeah, exactly. Normally youd exactly. But just normally youd have there and have australia in there and thats difference. Its thats the difference. Its probably youd have, youd have australia where, where fiji are. I as regards i would suggest. But as regards ireland have to past ireland they have to get past the psychological problem of getting quarterfinals. The psychological problem of getting never quarterfinals. The psychological problem of getting never donearterfinals. The psychological problem of getting never done thatinals. The psychological problem of getting never done that before theyve never done that before in theyve in their history. Theyve flattered to deceive at international and International Tournaments and this ever this is their biggest ever chance the world cup. Chance to win the world cup. Stephen question stephen theres no question about got stellar about that. Theyve got stellar une up about that. Theyve got stellar line up strong line up of players, strong league well, back in ireland. League as well, back in ireland. That helps. Theyre feeding into the national theyve the National Side and theyve got talent, got pace, got talent, theyve got pace, theyve they theyve got physicality. They never exactly. Never slot. Yeah, exactly. Theyll theyll never theyll never but theyll never have a better. Is this round of games now so is this round of games now is knockout. Is that knockout. Is but its taken five weeks. It gets interesting now its taken to get here though. Thats thats the problem. Yeah. Interesting yeah. It should get interesting in theory, but i mean hopefully and thats round of and thats a great round of games. Just think if games. But i just think if youre having an international tournament, need reach tournament, you need to reach this a bit quicker. Yeah. Yeah. Meanwhile pressure yeah. Meanwhile the pressure totally off england versus australia, but nevertheless we won. Australia, but nevertheless we worbut mean, the pressure is but i mean, the pressure is never off with england to never off with with england to some it was some degree, but it was a friendly there were the archers not not being lit up. That not being not being lit up. That was the controversy in the 36 hours it, there was the controversy in the 36 hou|a it, there was the controversy in the 36 hou|a suggestion it, there was the controversy in the 36 hou|a suggestion that, there was the controversy in the 36 hou|a suggestion that ithere was the controversy in the 36 hou|a suggestion that it was was a suggestion that it was going to be lit up blue and white. But even though the faa had it for france, theyd had done it for france, theyd done and they did it done it for uk and they did it for onelove during world cup for onelove during the world cup last november, december, last last november, december, they not do they decided not to do it yesterday they decided to yesterday and they decided to not take sides. This the not take sides. And this is the problem. You they problem. When you well, they shouldnt on any of shouldnt take sides on any of it then. Well, i completely well, look, i completely agree with you, steve. Well, look, i completely agree w as you, steve. Well, look, i completely agree w as am, steve. Well, look, i completely agree w as a football. Well, look, i completely agree w as a football fan, and as a football fan, i dont want to see the fa delving into areas that they dont know anything about. Theyve got a hard enough job managing english football delve football without having to delve into think the into politics. I think the i think politics of think the politics of the sponsorship makes a big difference. You on the difference. If you look on the website, commercial partners, website, 36 commercial partners, and including and thats not including broadcasters. Theyre broadcasters. You know, theyre involved channel 4, involved with itv, channel 4, theyve been involved sky theyve been involved with sky and the past. But in and the bbc in the past. But in terms of just ordinary blue chip companies, budweiser, coca cola, disney, barclays disney, i cant. And barclays never opinion when never short of an opinion when it some of it comes to politics. Some of those companies and i think that will have played into the fas thinking the fa think thinking because the fa think about think about money. They also think about money. They also think about media backlash and about social media backlash and when about social when were talking about social media that affects media backlash that affects sponsors. Been sponsors. And thats whats been tensions high at tensions are running so high at the moment. Maybe they the right the moment. M byne they the right the moment. M byne thnsort the right the moment. M byne thnsort of he right the moment. M byne thnsort of sitting it the moment. M byne thnsort of sitting on thing by just sort of sitting on the fence. Well, possibly there is an argument well. And argument for that as well. And look, a storm and it will look, its a storm and it will justit look, its a storm and it will just it will blow over next week. Well back week. Next week, well be back into premier league. And into the premier league. And they play italy, of course, on tuesday. I mean, lose out. Tuesday. I mean, they lose out. Therell some therell be some serious problems, theyll problems, but i think theyll be all right. But it was very much a sort of test team or b i mean, of test team or b team. I mean, know a goal by watkins. Ive know a goal by ali watkins. Ive never him, but look. Never heard of him, but look. But these are these the names that were going to see come through the next of years. I think watkins might be an answer because big question answer because the big question now, if isnt now, what happens if kane isnt fit . Reliant on him. He fit . Were so reliant on him. He scored two hat tricks for villa this season. Hes not a young player. Hes about 24, hes player. Hes about 24, 25. Hes been a little while, been around for a little while, but decent back up but hes hes a decent back up for kane. And you know for harry kane. And you know what . He was one of the few last night, steven, who, when asked to breach, he did to step into the breach, he did his job. Scored a goal. There his job. He scored a goal. There are few players in there in that line didnt do themselves line up who didnt do themselves justice. One justice. It was a very one paced, type of paced, pedestrian type of performance. Henderson performance. Jordan henderson getting the on the way getting booed on the on the way off as well because of, you know, the paraphernalia know, with all the paraphernalia around lgbt situation. And around the lgbt situation. And then he off and the fans then he came off and the fans made he them their made he made them made their voices booing it voices heard by booing him. It wasnt i wouldnt wasnt overly loud. I wouldnt say, uncomfortable say, but it was uncomfortable for nonetheless. Thats for him nonetheless. Thats a player many, many player hes played many, many times, odd times for his country. Okay, aiden, thank you very much indeed. Well catch up with you little on. You a little bit later on. Absolutely. Nice see you guys. Thank you. Thank you. Absolutely. And do with absolutely. And do stick with us coming up, do you us because coming up, do you find hard to cope the find it hard to cope when the news seems depressing . Were going to gb news. Its 834. Good morning. Youre watching breakfast here on gb news. And were going to go through the headlines. Well, go through the headlines. Well, the headline makers, i should say, weve got the assistant editor spectator, cindy, editor of the spectator, cindy, you with and Political Editor you with us and Political Editor of Huffpost Kevin schofield. Of huffpost uk, kevin schofield. Much for coming thanks very much for coming back. Should have a look . Well should we have a look . Well kick a viral video kick off with with a viral video , which is obviously very poignant at the moment, cindy. And its people queuing up in jerusalem to donate blood. Yeah , and i hope we can see yeah, and i hope we can see this. I think its within ten minutes of the blood bank opening and was the key, opening. And that was the key, which is just incredible. Which is just incredible. Um, its a sad reality and hugely necessary, i imagine. Absolutely. Absolutely. Absolutely. Me im actually interviewing someone on monday morning for my podcast, chinese whispers, who usually peacetime is a usually in peacetime is a researcher, but hes now gone on active for the idf. So active duty for the idf. So i think, you know , if youre think, you know, if youre israeli right now because the country is so small, as you guys will have heard, you either know someone who was killed or know someone who was killed or know someone taken hostage. Someone who was taken hostage. So feels its so everyone feels that its involving them. If you cant involving them. And if you cant be on active duty, you cant be on active duty, if you cant fight, probably want help fight, you probably want to help in way can. In whatever way you can. Course, because israel and of course, because israel has service, yes, that has national service, yes, that means that theres whole means that theres a whole generation people actually generation of people actually who up at any who could be called up at any minute and are being called up. Are. And yeah, they are. Yeah and weve seen brits as well go into israel with dual nationality to help. Think i think you help. I mean i think i think you probably would want to at this moment. Of course, as youve probably would want to at this momntalking of course, as youve probably would want to at this momntalking aboutjrse, as youve probably would want to at this momntalking about on , as youve probably would want to at this momntalking about on the youve probably would want to at this momntalking about on the showe been talking about on the show this morning, know what is this morning, you know what is the way to help and what the right way to help and what are the rights the gazans in are the rights of the gazans in this now . There this situation right now . There was a great video well. Was a great video as well. I i saw it yesterday i think i saw it yesterday before of idf soldiers who were abroad stationed abroad, obviously back obviously having to come back and to obviously because of the conflict. And they came into conflict. And they came into bengau conflict. And they came into bengali an airport and there was a huge crowds there just to greet them and to celebrate the fact that they were coming back to defend the homeland and they were dancing together there. And it was remarkably upbeat given. Tell you what, though. If you were the mother of sons or and the and the girls fight, dont they as well, you would be so worried because this is going to be a very, war. Be a very, very war. Yeah. And probably quite lengthy because they think its self defence, right . You dont fight, i mean, if you dont fight, then. Yes. I mean, they literally you. Literally are coming for you. I mean, as we saw last saturday. Just i and the people so i just i and the people i mean, some brits and some brits have died over there. But with the dual nationality going over and fighting and those people being recalled all rest being recalled and all the rest of dont know how people of it, i dont know how people do you know, knowing do it. You know, knowing soldiers , being married to soldiers, being married to veteran and a un. With your experience and all the rest of it, i still dont know how people do it. Ive really i people do it. Ive really i really dont. Its some its beyond most of us. I think. Beyond most of us. I think. I guess you rely on your training. You take a great pride training. You take a great pride in your training and then you rely on it. And theres also the catalyst, you know, the horrors of the last week where were still only just finding out more about full scale of that. I about the full scale of that. I think is enough to think that is enough to radicalise someone into not radicalised, really radicalised, but to really trigger them. Trigger someone, inspire them. Something yeah Something Like that. Yeah. Yeah i we were talking about i mean we were talking about earlier on with andrew eborn, were talking this fake were talking about this fake news on twitter and x or whatever, which is everywhere now. And, and this is in the ft, now. And, and this is in the ft, the eu wants now to probe how how the middle east situation is being represented on x. Yeah. So i mean, so elon musk, when he took over this platform, got rid of so many moderators in a very kind of dramatic mass firing kind of situation. And hes also situation. And hes also obviously allowed people to buy a blue tick. Yeah theyve verified status rather than just previously before where you had to apply for one, which means that if you pay a subscription about £8 a month, you can have a blue tick where the platform promotes you are as promotes you and you are seen as someone but of course someone reliable. But of course thats necessarily case. Someone reliable. But of course that i necessarily case. Someone reliable. But of course that i think ecessarily case. Someone reliable. But of course that i think this sarily case. Someone reliable. But of course that i think this isily case. Someone reliable. But of course that i think this is the case. Someone reliable. But of course that i think this is the firstase. And i think this is the first real for test disinformation on the platform. As you were talking about with andrew, theres of stuff theres been a lot of stuff thats recycled from thats been recycled from previous billed previous conflicts billed as current , and the current conflicts, and the platform doesnt seem like it can keep up with that. But elon musk is fighting back, saying, how it doing as x now . How is it doing as x now . Mean, it as popular as i mean, is it as popular as it was . I dont know. In terms of numbers, im certainly from a journalist point of view. As for reliability , i dont use it reliability, i dont use it nearly as much as i did as a news source just because cause its not as reliable. Its its just not as reliable. Its not as reliable. You know, you get blue tick accounts posting breaking news, but theyre not journalists. Theyre spreading disinformation quite often. And disinformation quite often. And so youre youre less inclined to believe what you read. Well, i dont understand what elon musk did. Then why did he do what he did . I think hes a free speech regulator. He believes in free speech. He thought that the moderators were moderating in a way political. So we way that was political. So we saw, for example, during the pandemic a few years ago, where in america certainly the government leant on twitter moderators to get rid of disinformation stuff that wasnt actually disinformation, but just against the kind of official narrative of on covid and elon musk, when he came in, released those files to show that the government had been leaning so hes leaning on the platform. So hes anti that. But theres obviously anti that. But theres obviously anti that. But theres obviously a balance struck, a balance to be struck, a balance you cant go too far. The other just a free the other way, just a free for all. But i think hes kind of bought into so much of this himself. You know, hes hes ive seen tweeting. There ive seen him tweeting. There was tweet saying from was this one tweet saying from an a million an account with over a million followers. Saying , you followers. Hes saying, you know, weve had so much more of the conflict in the last the israeli conflict in the last week than have had over the week than we have had over the ukraine for a year. Is ukraine war for a year. Why is that suggesting that the ukraine war staged and elon war has been staged and elon musk tweets on that saying , musk tweets on that saying, indeed or Something Like that or interesting. Indeed, hes he interesting. Indeed, hes he bought into it. Yeah. Which is dangerous. Yeah. Which is dangerous. Really. Yeah. Given hes got so much power. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Terrifying worry it is worrying how we move from that to married at first sight. I do not know. Kevin watches do you. Kevin watches do you. Well youre i want to clarify this. This. My wife is a big fan. This. My wife is a big fan. Was my wife is a big fan. Was married at first sight. Australia yeah. Was the first one i think back and then was married at first sight uk. I was getting a salad as well stephen and so my wife watches it and i will occasionally tune in. Can you explain what the premise is . So the premise is they get these expert vets who pair up, match up to people who are complete strangers to one another, and they dont literally do not see each other until. Well, now, i dont think until. Well, now, i dont think its an official marriage as such. I its an official marriage as such. I dont think its legally binding. I think its like a commitment ceremony. But there are some there is a ceremony and their families are there. And literally do not see one literally they do not see one another until they are at the altar. Because theyre altar. And because theyre getting at first sight getting married at first sight andits getting married at first sight and its ridiculous, they were i agree with you. I completely agree with you. I completely agree with you. But theres something strangely addictive. Not really. I mean, there might be a physical attraction if you get my drift, so there might be that. But i dont think in terms of long term relationship, i dont think it ever works. And then they get these other couples, have sex couples, then they have the sex couples, then they have the sex couples together it just couples all together and it just becomes bit of for all becomes a bit of a free for all or all touching each other. So whats been happening . Not like that. This video, the video thats gone viral about it. This is a couple who meet so this is a couple who meet on as i say on the altar and she is quite taken with him. Yeah. Yeah. And hes not very taken with her and he tries to put brave her and he tries to put a brave face on but he doesnt face on it, but he doesnt really succeed. Okay, lets have a look. Lets have a look. You look lets have a look. You look so hunky. Amazing. Thank you. Hi family. Yeah. I fancy him on initial yeah. I fancy him on initial attraction. He is lovely. He has such a beautiful smile. Shouts. Such a beautiful smile. Shouts. When i first saw bianca, it wasnt what i was expecting. I dont want to sound disappointed, but not like love. At first sight. Oh well, what a shocker people are. People are outraged. Are they people are outraged. Are they over this because he actually meets some woman that is expected to marry and doesnt fancy her very much . I mean, you would think that is the jeopardy of the program, isnt it . Yeah. Yeah. Thats makes yeah. And thats what makes it dont want them it because you dont want them really to get on and live happily ever after. You want them happily ever after. You want the youve got give it to happily ever after. You want theyouve got give it to him youve got to give it to him for honest and for being honest and comfortable. I good comfortable. I mean, good for him ali. Yes. But i dont him for ali. Yes. But i dont know what hes got complain about. I dont know why he was quite so exactly, because shes a good looking girl. Yeah, she was. Yeah. Yeah yeah. Yeah i have said were all i would have said were all dumbstruck, arent we . Know what to say. We dont know what to say. We dont know what to say. Just. I the whole premise, i just. I the whole premise, i make personal i dont want to make personal comments you this is. No, comments to you this is. No, this and it got this is the trouble. And it got that bowl out and cut his hair, especially. I know exactly his mum had doneit i know exactly his mum had done it for him. Yes. But i tell i just yes. But i tell you, i just watching that, i mean, ive never seen the show. Ive never seen it. What i dont understand these idiots who do this of who want to do this sort of television. Fine. The the television. Fine. The fact the families sat there families are all sat there going, well, no, i mean, going, oh, well, no, but i mean, grandma crying in the corner. Yeah. How do we get a grip . How do we get a grip . How do we get a grip . How would you feel if it was your or daughter im your son or daughter saying, im getting married but never actually met, never actually met them . Yeah. Yeah. You wouldnt say how yeah. Yeah. You wouldnt say hov how much money is it . How much money is it . How much money is it . Yeah. Would you . Yeah. Would you . I presume theres money well, i presume theres money in be. Do you do in it. There must be. Do you do it. Can i give it. Can i give like a it. Can i give like a kind can i, can i give like a kind of devils advocate defence of the show which is that. You fan . Are you a fan . Are you a fan . No, never watched it, no, ive never watched it, but i have watched love is blind, which is kind of a similar but similar premise. But they actually each other actually do talk to each other through walls beforehand. Through the walls beforehand. The the walls. The walls through the walls. Yeah. Got this like, yeah. Theyve got this like, fancy where the and fancy house where the man and the each other, but the woman are each other, but theyre dating. The woman are each other, but the yeah. Iting. Yeah. Yeah. And then choose. And and then they choose. And then they see each other for the first they get first time when they get married. The point married. But anyway, the point is, i wonder if, you know, with this expert panel, people are just you know, just feeling quite, you know, talking friends well, talking to my friends as well, feeling disillusioned with feeling quite disillusioned with onune feeling quite disillusioned with online is so online dating, which is so superficial. You you swipe online dating, which is so supe swipe you you swipe online dating, which is so supe swipe right, you swipe online dating, which is so supe swipe right, whatever swipe online dating, which is so supe swipe right, whatever it ipe left, swipe right, whatever it is. Want, you is. And they just want, you know, something to be said know, maybe something to be said for having someone who knows you being recommend. Being match made recommend. Yeah. Theyre being matched. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. Theyre being matched. Exactlythat exactly. Yeah. Theyre being matched. Exactlythat in exactly. Yeah. Theyre being matched. Exactlythat in itself y. Yeah. Theyre being matched. Exactlythat in itself is an so that in itself is an interesting idea is that is coming back in a big way in reality tv shows because its not just this show and theres a Science Behind it. Yeah. Well you know, like, oh yeah. Well you know, like, you know, my grandparents had an arranged marriage and, you know, i think theres something to be said kinds of matchmaking. Yeah, well, thats, thats my devils advocate defence of the poor fella. You know, he walks up the aisle hes greeted by. Aisle and hes greeted by. Yeah , you just. Yeah, you just. Yeah, you just. I mean, its not for you then. Yeah he could have. He could have made a better face of it. He really could have. He could have made an effort. No, i went on. I went on a blind date once and was literally greeted by going to the coffee shop and was greeted with , oh, yeah, i was greeted with, oh, yeah, i was like, no , im so out of here. Like, no, im so out of here. Its a long, long time ago. Its a long, long time ago. A customer , i think. A customer, i think. A customer, i think. I think theyre all utterly bonkers. I agree. Yeah, thats nuts. I dont know why youd ever do it in a million years, but. But some people are desperately trying to tell you as well that is that absolutely want be famous . Absolutely want to be famous . Chance. Yeah me. No chance. Yeah me. No chance. Yeah me. Its like that Naked Attraction thing all that, attraction thing and all that, isnt oh, the worlds isnt it . Oh oh, the worlds gone mad and the world has gone mad. We need to calm ourselves mad. We need to calm ourselves down by blowing bagpipes. Kevin. I think do. Yes. Yes, i think we do. Yes. Times. Yes. So the kings charity, the princess foundation, is encouraging people with lung conditions or breathing difficulties to take up bagpipes for their health. Apparently it is beneficial for your cardiovascular system. Sure it cardiovascular system. Sure it is. And there is a an organisation called piping for health, which was developed with the help of the kings doctor to basically get people to take. Now obviously being scottish , i now obviously being scottish, i do enjoy the sound of the bag, but theres Nothing Better than. Have you ever tried playing them . Never. No never. No well, no, because if youre bad at it, it is horrific. Yeah. Yeah. Think are bad at it for many years before. Yeah thats the thing. Yeah youve get but theres no youve got to get but theres no doubt you need lots and lots of breath you. Breath dont you. And do you remember the piper at prince philips funeral was. Absolutely. Yeah. Thats right. Yeah. Thats right. Yeah. Thats right. Yeah. And the queen, of course, stunning, woken course, stunning, was woken up by piper morning outside by a piper every morning outside her window. Well, she. I didnt know yeah, yeah, i didnt know that. Oh, yeawe this is o. Ulez mobile camera vans. Oh, yeawe this is another video we do this is another video of diners. People were dressed up as dinosaurs pushing ulez vans away. Va ns away. Vans away. Oh, yes. Oh, theres a big oh, yes. Oh, theres a big blue dinosaur , which is quite blue dinosaur, which is quite a good way to get publicity. I mean, were talking about it now. Are you out of the way . Ihave it now. Are you out of the way . I have to say, this is not the first seen blue first time ive seen blue dinosaurs last month dinosaurs in the last month because in manchester, have you been conservative party been doing a conservative Party Conference . Were a couple conference . There were a couple of a line of dinosaurs on a picket line saying dinosaurs destroy democracy , people protect democracy, people protect democracy, people protect democracy. And i dont know if democracy. And i dont know if theyre the same dinosaurs who are anti tory but pro but anti ulez as well. But clearly theyre frightening. The theyre are radicalising animals. No, the theyre are radicalising animals. No, no. Well , people will do anything well, people will do anything to make a viral video now. Its like something from its a knockout. You remember that . Yeah. Oh, well, yeah, yeah. Oh, well, yeah, yeah. Ill tell you what. We had a gnnch ill tell you what. We had a grinch yesterday blocking a camera. Oh, really . Dressed up as a gnnch oh, really . Dressed up as a grinch and a conservative councillor. This morning. Not quite as exciting. Exciting. One another. One another. Yeah. Ill tell you what. I yeah. Ill tell you what. I just. Why i dont understand with this. Its so unpopular a politics. Even if it is a politician and you think, no, this is what we must do. This is a good idea. Youd go, well, if you want to win, get some votes. You just wait out in the vote business. At the end of the day, thats it. You need to be popular or else youll get kicked out. And hes election coming up hes got an election coming up next well out. Next year. So well find out. I guess, that the acid guess, that way. The acid test, i sure like in the i mean, im sure like in the uxbndge i mean, im sure like in the uxbridge by election, the conservatives try conservatives will go in to try and make it a referendum on ulez i yeah, and they may do very well there. Well from there. Well, won in yeah. Well, they won in uxbndge yeah. Well, they won in uxbridge back of it, so uxbridge on the back of it, so who. Who knows. Yeah. Just its all very, very bizarre. Very bizarre. Oh. Are we going to look at sir keir starmer planning reform proposal . I just had a message from someone saying that that was a do you think he saw as. Yes. Yes. Yes. Jeremy , thats palaeontologist. I know as well. Just, you know, she should know better. Know, she should know better. Cindy, tell us about sir Keir Starmers planning reform proposals. Yeah , well, just which may yeah, well, just which may well by election win in the election. Yeah, its yeah, yeah. The by election next week. So remember Nadine Dorries who said yes. Who said she was going to resign then, didnt for months, but now she has resigned and the by election is next thursday. But her constituency is very interesting, which is that a labouris interesting, which is that a labour is neck and neck with the tories on the local poll, but the lib dems are very close behind as well. So labour and lib dems are fighting it out with other and they could with each other and they could well split one of the well split the vote. One of the big for them that big issues for them is that labour said that labour have now said that theyre really pro housebuilding. Dems tend to housebuilding. Lib dems tend to attract the nimbys of the world of the country so that could of the country and so that could be that loses keir be something that loses keir starmer that by election. So starmer that by election. See so when were talking about things like ulez vans, tories like the ulez vans, the tories are not actually doing that well. You know, net zero well. You know, the net zero watering did do, did they watering down did do, did they get them somewhere in the polls . But recent poll from but actually a recent poll from after the conferences showed that rishi sunak actually that rishi sunak was actually behind by five points, fallen by five points. Then previously compared to the conference. But anything could happen, i guess, the next year, guess, in the next year, wouldnt it . Think it would well, yeah, i think it would be a major shock. I think if they tories were to turn it around from here. Just around from here. I mean just being conferences, both being at the conferences, both of them, youll know this as well. Cindy conservative well. Cindy the conservative conference , conference was very downbeat, very pessimistic , quite sparsely very pessimistic, quite sparsely attended, whereas you went to the labour one last week and although being complacent is although not being complacent is the theyre saying the mantra that theyre saying all you could just all the time, you could just tell they bouncy, they were tell they were bouncy, they were excited. Well, they feel that theyre going win. Theyre going to win. It going to be, arent it was going to be, arent they . Mean, i mean, that seems they . I mean, i mean, that seems pretty now. Pretty inevitable now. Know , rishi and despite, you know, rishi sunak very energetic and hes sunak is very energetic and hes making lots of announcements , making lots of announcements, but it doesnt seem to be shifting national shifting the national mood, really. People have more really. I think people have more or less made up their mind for whatever mind you, this whatever reason, mind you, this is what happened in 1992, wasnt it . Labour thought they were going everyone going to win. Everyone was geared up for it. And then, yeah , and actually have still , and, and actually have still got a 70 majority. Got like a 70 seat majority. Are coming from so the labour are coming from a thing have to be thing would have to be a massive be a big swing. Yeah. So you know its not in the bag. Problem for the tories is the problem for the tories is that trajectory is that the trajectory is wrong, is in direction. Its not in the wrong direction. Its not that is becoming that rishi sunak is becoming more popular compared to liz truss. Actually losing truss. Hes actually losing the conservatives popular support. You like you know, things like the smoking conference. Smoking ban from conference. They capture they just dont capture the pubuc public imagination. Whereas labour putting out its labour is now putting out its policies and is going in the right directory roughly. So where does it go from here . I mean, i dont quite exciting enough really. Enough though really. Just enough. Well, thats just not enough. I think lot of people have. I think a lot of people have. The one thing thats thats the one thing thats making face. We will see making them face. We will see laboun making them face. We will see labour. Theyre not convinced by laboun labour. Theyre not convinced by labour. Keir starmer yeah. I we might see quite low i mean we might see quite low turnout next election. I dont know kevin what you know what kevin what do you think . Not enthused know what kevin what do you thi either not enthused know what kevin what do you thi either side. Not enthused by either side. A lot of dont knows theres a lot of dont knows in the opinion definitely. Yeah. Yeah. And theres lot of dont cares. Yeah well thats just a plague on all your houses type of yeah. Lovely. Look of thing. Yeah. Lovely. Look its to see you both its been good to see you both this morning. You very indeed. Thank you very much indeed. And check on the and lets get a check on the weather you with alex. Weather for you with alex. Im alex good morning. Im alex deakin. Is your latest deakin. Lovely thanks very much, indeed. This is the start of winter. This is the start of winter. Its the way its going, isnt it . Have you put your heating on yet . No got it. Got it. This afternoon. Ive put it on boost so ive had a little bit of a of a little bit of a boost but not on all the time because im refusing to give my money over to the energy company. Basically after last year i just think, no, youre not getting any more money out of me. There you go. Anyway, me. So there you go. Anyway, look, with us. Weve got look, stay with us. Weve got everything to everything you need to know coming dreadful coming up on that dreadful situation in the middle east. Were going to be live on the ground tel aviv. This is. Gb news. Its 11 00 in news. Its11 00 in the middle east. And tens of thousands of civilians in gaza are fleeing to the south of the strip after israel gives over a million palestinians. Well, now 30 hours to evacuate the northern half. To evacuate the northern half. Morning to you. Its 9 00 in the uk on saturday day the 14th of october. And this is what weve been covering on breakfast so far this morning, a week to the day since hamas launched its devastating attack on israel, killing over 1300 people. The conflict shows no sign of subsiding as israel continues its bombardment and blockade of the gaza strip. Rishi sunak has the gaza strip. Rishi sunak has said civilian safety must be paramount. Paramount. Israeli Defence Forces say theyve already conducted raids into gaza to eliminate terrorist infra structure as a full scale offensive is expected , possibly offensive is expected, possibly sometime today. Charlie peters is live in tel aviv , israel is live in tel aviv, israel extends the deadline for civilians to flee from the north of gaza amid reports that some convoys have been hit by airstrikes. Ai rstri kes. And airstrikes. And here back at home, alex has your latest Weather Forecast i some crisp autumn sunshine for many this weekend, but there will be a few showers around, especially so today. And it is an awful lot colder, especially when you compare it to last weekend. Ill have all your weather details coming up shortly. Shortly. Morning to you. Im stephen dixon. And im anne diamond, and this is breakfast on. This is breakfast on. Gb news. Well, tens of thousands of civilians in the gaza strip are fleeing south after israel gave palestinians living there 24 hours to flee. That deadline ended an hour ago. Theyve ended an hour ago. Theyve extended it now until 2 00 in the afternoon uk time. The afternoon uk time. Um, and yesterday the idf told over 1 um, and yesterday the idf told over1 million gazans to flee from the northern half of the strip to south of wadi gaza. The United Nations says that order is horrendous. Well before the order was given more than 400,000 palestinians have been displaced because of fighting and the death toll in gaza from israeli airstrikes is now nearly 2000. Meanwhile , the israeli prime meanwhile, the israeli Prime Minister netanyahu, said last night that the week long bombardment of gaza was only the beginning and boisvenu otzma we are striking at our enemies with unprecedented. Might i emphasise , this is might i emphasise, this is just the beginning. Our enemies just the beginning. Our enemies have only begun paying the price. I wont detail what is yet to come, but i tell you this is only the beginning. Well as is only the beginning. Well as Israeli Defence forces fight on all fronts, civilian volunteers are stepping up to fill the logistical gaps. People right across the country have been providing vital kit and equipment to soldiers and civilians on all fronts. Fronts. Well, in central tel aviv, one restaurant has become a kitchen for the nations army from there, Charlie Peters reports. Reports. Its an army marches on its stomach. But as the Israeli Military mobilises over 360,000 reservists keeping every soldier fed and fighting fit is a major challenge. Last week, this challenge. Last week, this restaurant was doing business in peace , but now its a kitchen peace, but now its a kitchen for the troops. We are packing food for soldiers and the people from the south. And we came here. Weve been here all week. Theres nothing we can do right now. Were in war. We just want to do good to people and the soldiers and tell them thanks that theyre watching us and taking care were here. Care of us while were here. As the idf activates hundreds of thousands of reservists and sends soldiers to all corners of the country to defend itself, it is requiring civilians to step up and provide supplies. And up and provide supplies. And this is where the supplies are heading. The frontline in heading. The frontline in israels war against hamas , israels war against hamas, israeli troops are already engaged with hamas on the gaza border , where israels military border, where israels military called for all civilians of gaza city. More than 1 Million People to relocate south with a Ground Invasion of the narrow and densely populated gaza strip, home to 2. 3 Million People. And under siege by israel, poses serious risks with Hamas Holding scores of hostages kidnapped in the assault. According to the the assault. According to the Israeli Military, this video shows the rescue of some of those hostages. Israels naval those hostages. Israels Naval Special forces claims it faced dozens of hamas gunmen during a battle which lasted several hours , which ended with the hours, which ended with the rescue of dozens of hostages that were held by the terror group. While the fate of the group. While the fate of the hostages taken from israel complicates the ground assault on gaza , their Mission Statement on gaza, their Mission Statement is clear to destroy hamas. The is clear to destroy hamas. The un has warned that will only be possible with devasted lasting humanitarian consequences. As humanitarian consequences. As Charlie Peters gb news israel. Charlie peters gb news israel. Well charlie joins us live now. Well charlie joins us live now. And charlie, if you can tell us more about this extension of the 24 hour evacuation period. The 24 hour evacuation period. And set this morning the idf said that they are going to extend the time that gazans have to flee from the north of the gaza strip. They said that it was a safe humanitarian corridor and that use of language, i think, is very interesting because last night hamas reported that some 70 people had been killed in an israeli airstrike on a convoy. Thatis israeli airstrike on a convoy. That is what it has claimed. And that is what it has claimed. And the idf said this morning that it was aware of the reports, but it was aware of the reports, but it was aware of the reports, but it was unaware of any israeli airstrikes at the time. Were still reviewing the footage here in israel , but its clear that in israel, but its clear that some devastation did occur on one of those main routes heading south. Dozens of people stacked into a large lorry which was fleeing from the north of the city. And this came as the idf dropped leaflets and warnings and also put messages on Television Screens on social media in gaza that people had to get out. Now they had to get south of the wadi gaza, a wetland halfway down the strip, because its expected in the next 24 hours, possibly as soon as tonight. That the idf will start that Ground Invasion of the gaza strip to carry out what it describes as its mission to remove and destroy hamass military capability. Military capability. I mean, its awful, charlie, waiting for a deadline, but it it does seem from the israeli journalists weve talked to over the last couple of days whove all said this has been actually quite a slow operation in in some respects from the Israeli Armed forces , from the idf and armed forces, from the idf and i mean, it does seem pretty certain that when that deadline hits this afternoon , well, they hits this afternoon, well, they are going to have to do something today, arent they . Something today, arent they . Yes, there has been rather a slow operation because the task at hand is enormous , mobilising at hand is enormous, mobilising half a million troops and kitting them all out is an incredible challenge for any military, let alone one that is fighting on several fronts. Theyve activated over 360,000 reservists, many of them flying in from all over the world. The national airline, el al is flying today for the first time on shabbat in 41 years in order to ensure that as many reservists can get to the country as possible, get kitted out and be sent to fight across the country, it is a significant strain on and its not entirely clear the army is able to meet that demand at the moment. And so once they are able to prepare their own forces , they also their own forces, they also still need to shape the ground for that invasion because it is the most densely populated part of the world. It is full of underground tunnels and bunkers that hamas can use. And until they are able to remove as many civilians as possible from that region, they cant use some of the more advanced munitions to destroy those capabilities that they do before they can they need to do before they can send infantry and heavy armour into the gaza strip. Into the gaza strip. We from your report there we saw from your report there all of the food being prepared to feed the soldiers who are going to have to fight. I think you told us earlier that there are reports that many soldiers havent eaten for days and so theyre going to need building up. Are you seeing an amassing of troops anywhere around you . Of troops anywhere around you . Yes tel aviv is being used as a place for people to return for shelter. Its a place where many people are coming up from southern israel after enduring the horrifying atrocities that hamas inflicted on them on saturday morning. But its also where a lot of injured soldiers are returning and then being sent back out onto the front lines. A couple of nights ago, we 119 year old idf soldier we saw 119 year old idf soldier Walking Around in his shorts and a t shirt. He had two slings on one sling. He carried an injured arm, the other sling carried an assault rifle. He will be recuperate eating at home now and go again. Well, and ready to go again. Well, most of the military equipment and activity that we are seeing in tel aviv is in the air and at sea. Destroyers regularly moving up and down the coastline. Just five from where five minutes from where we are now. And fighter jets, dozens of now. And fighter jets, dozens of them and down this them constantly up and down this coastline , refuelling and coastline, refuelling and rearming the north before rearming in the north before heading to re engage with heading south to re engage with hamas targets in the strip. Theres a lot of concern in charlie over sevilla tions in gaza , understandably so. So know gaza, understandably so. So know were talking about Palestinian Civilians and not members of hamas and obviously that blockade is still is still in place. We cant get supplies in. Place. We cant get supplies in. You cant get the people out. What is happening on the egyptian border, in the south, people are moving south now and thats where the egyptian border is. Is there any indication that egypt may open that border to, if not allow aid in, but at least to alleviate some of the pressure, the overcrowd crowding and the danger to civilians is the status of the rafah crossing between gaza and egypt remains unclear, although we have seen some unverified photos this morning of it being blockaded at the egyptian end. We know that its been a constant source of diplomatic conversations throughout the region , with the us reminding region, with the us reminding israel of its humanitarian duties in the region because of course it is a humanitarian crisis of enormous scale. Crisis of enormous scale. Hundreds of thousands displaced , hundreds of thousands displaced, 1. 1 million expected to be demanded to move now, of course, and as they move south, there is already a very densely populated built up area near that rafah crossing. So all countries in the region fighting to contribute to that humanitarian effort. But it is a scale and a challenge that its unlikely theyre able to meet. People will suffer regardless of what happens now with the idf. If they take 24 hours or 72 hours to launch that invasion with that many people heading south without the shelter and within that severe blockade, which has been condemned by Many International parties, people will almost certainly lose their lives and continue to suffer in the south of gaza strip. The south of the gaza strip. Absolutely. Thank absolutely. Charlie, thank you indeed for joining you very much indeed for joining us morning. You. Us this morning. Thank you. And lets talk to colonel hamish de Bretton Gordon , whos hamish de Bretton Gordon, whos a former commander of uk and nato chemical, biological and nuclear forces. Good to see you, hamish, as always. And in terms hamish, as always. And in terms of the i mean, this Ground Invasion, which is to going happen, i mean, theres no doubt this is going to and its this is going to happen and its going happen in but going to happen in force. But nevertheless, this in these nevertheless, in this in these very congested , built up areas very congested, built up areas that that must be an incredibly dangerous situation for those forces moving in. Yes good morning, urban warfare is the most challenging military operation that you can undertake. And as as you can see, pictures, its incredibly built up. Lots of high rise buildings and very dense. And everybody is and very dense. And everybody is talking about the mass of civilians in the area and the chances of not just Collateral Damage of building , but more damage of building, but more importantly, civilian casualties. Weve seen youve reported earlier that special forces operations by the israelis to rescue hostages. I mean, theyre rescue hostages. I mean, theyre special forces are really second to none. And i expect that will be the focus , the sort of be the focus, the sort of precise Operation Missions to rescue hostages. And the second rescue hostages. And the second element to this is rails vow to destroy hamas. Now, that is what destroy hamas. Now, that is what is going to take the time. And thatis is going to take the time. And that is why the israelis are massing hundreds of thousands of infantry people, because theyre going to have to go into northern israel and northern gaza to begin with and really search every blade of ground and every building and around every corner. There will be booby traps. And also terrorists. Now, i think it is a good idea to move the civilians south, however difficult it is. And i know at the un is calling this a war crime, which im not sure thats entirely correct. But to leave the hamas fighters behind, the israelis strikes me to be the israelis strikes me to be the most humane thing to do. I expect once the israelis have cleared northern gaza, they will then try and move civilians back to the north, where it will be relatively safer and conduct a similar operation in the south. But absolutely , this is a but absolutely, this is a terrifically difficult , terrifically difficult, horrifically challenging. They are looking for 30,000 hamas fighters, we believe within a population of 2. 3 million in a very small area. So very, very challenging indeed. And everybody hates the civilian casualties are minimised. And the second key element to this is , is the responsibility of the is, is the responsibility of the uk and the us and others in the region to prevent escalation , region to prevent escalation, prevent irans proxy hezbollah getting involved , and russias getting involved, and russias proxy syria getting involved and so the british fleet moving to the east mediterranean, i think is a good thing for us to do to try and prevent this escalating beyond israel. Yeah , i mean, just hearing yeah, i mean, just hearing you describe it that way, it shows what a massive operation its going have to be. But its going to have to be. But you also described how urban warfare is so incredibly dangerous for individual soldiers going in. And its not just sort of urban warfare. Its almost guerrilla warfare, isnt it . Because understand almost guerrilla warfare, isnt it . Because understand hamas it . Because we understand hamas have always specialised in having a sort of network of underground tunnels and we dont necessarily know they are necessarily know where they are or well , necessarily know where they are or well, youre necessarily know where they are or well , youre absolutely right. You know, hamas are hiding amongst the people. You know, theyre not wearing uniforms with hamas written on the back. The only way that the israelis will be able to find them is when they are actually firing back at them. The other element to it that quite rightly to it that you quite rightly highlight are the tunnels. There are tunnels all over gaza, which is what hamas used to hide in, used to smuggle weapons in from all over the place. And the all over the place. And the israelis will have to go and clear them. You know, the most horrific type of operation you can imagine , underground can imagine, underground fighting in tunnels. Can imagine, underground fighting in tunnels. But the fighting in tunnels. But the israelis do have specialist troops who are incredibly well trained to do this. But yeah , trained to do this. But yeah, the underground war is even more horrific than the war above ground. But yeah , its going to ground. But yeah, its going to be really challenging and undoubtedly therell be many casualties on both sides. But casualties on both sides. But unless hamas gives itself up, which seems unlikely , we its which seems unlikely, we its clear to me and i think everybody the israelis are absolutely determined to save their casualties and to neutralise hamas. Neutralise hamas. Can we get your perspective on the civilian side of this from a military perspective, from a military perspective, from a military perspective, from a man who knows what this is like . Because theres a lot of concern about the horrific crime forms that we saw happen in israel. But there is also in israel. But there is also obviously a lot of concern about civilians in gaza and civilian casualties. And that is i mean, casualties. And that is i mean, its rightly a concern, but in a war, there is always this. Its awful to say , but this awful to say, but this Collateral Damage isnt there, and nobody may want it. But is it something that as a military man , you know, you would think man, you know, you would think we as regrettable as it is , is we as regrettable as it is, is we as regrettable as it is, is we just have to accept that. We just have to accept that. Well, youre right. We just have to accept that. Well, youre right. I mean, its civilian casualties are the. Absolutely desperate end of warfare. And in the military, certainly the British Military , certainly the British Military, we always try and avoid civilian casualties at all costs. Unfortunately civilians do get caughtin unfortunately civilians do get caught in the crossfire. Now, caught in the crossfire. Now, had hamas not invaded israel , had hamas not invaded israel, had hamas not invaded israel, had they not killed 1300 israelis, and you know, i wont go into the horrific details of that, then this would not be happening now. It you know, we are where we are , sadly and are where we are, sadly and unfortunately, when you have terrorists hiding amongst the people as they are here, and unless the civilians. Are out of unless the civilians. Are out of the north, then unfortunately, people will get caught in this this is not new. This has happened since the beginning of time. And, you know, we all wish time. And, you know, we all wish there was no war and no fighting. We all wish we lived in eternal peace. But im fortunately that is just not the case. And, you know, there are an awful lot of naive people around who do live in in wonderland , and thats great for wonderland, and thats great for them. Unfortunately for the people of israel and the people of palestine, an that is just not the case at the moment. And the israelis stated our aim to save their hostage is and to neutralise hamas is going to mean sadly that civilians on both sides are going to be killed and injured. We would all wish that was not the case. And in your Expert Opinion , and in your Expert Opinion, though, it may be very difficult for you to say how long is this operation going to take . How long will this war last . Unfortunate u nfo rtunate i unfortunate i think its going to take a long time. When you finally israeli raids are short and sharp and these sort of conflicts over the last sort of decades or so have taken a few weeks now for israel to clear gaza from top to bottom. As ive gaza from top to bottom. As ive mentioned, they have really got to look under every blade of grass, clear, every single building , grass, clear, every single building, and grass, clear, every single building , and there are building, and there are thousands of buildings and some of them quite high. You know, this is probably going to take weeks rather than days. It weeks rather than days. It really depends what sort of resistance that they come up against. And also they are trying absolutely to reduce civilian casualties. If there was no concern about civilian casualties , they would flatten casualties, they would flatten the place in a couple of days and go through it. But in trying to eke out these 30,000 Hamas Terrorists , it is going to take terrorists, it is going to take time. So i cant put an absolute figure on it, but id say weeks rather than days. Okay. Colonel hamish de okay. Colonel hamish de Bretton Gordon , really Bretton Gordon, really appreciate your expertise and your time this morning. Thank you. So what has been the sort of political reaction back here in britain . Lets talk to our reporter Catherine Forster now, whos in westminster for us. Hi there, catherine. Whats being said at the moment . Well , rishi said at the moment . Well, rishi sunak said yesterday that he had spoken to israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu and stressed that humanitarian concerns and protection of civilians is very important. Protection of civilians is very important. This, of course, in reference to the fact that over. Reference to the fact that over. 1. 3 thousand israelis have been killed, but 1. 8 thousand palestinians have already died and now israel has demanded that 1. 1 million in the north of gaza move to the south and were given only 24 hours to do so. Thats been extended and a little bit now reports that 70 gazans were killed whilst trying to make this journey. Thats not been verified. But calls from the United Nations, from red cross, from the United States for more humanitarian considerations to be first and foremost taken into account. The British Government trying to facilitate aid to get into gaza via the crossing from egypt. L into gaza via the crossing from egypt. I dont think thats happening as yet. And at the same time, the British Government clearly making their support for israel apparent in terms of sending two ships to the Eastern Mediterranean to try to blockade potentially weapons being given to hamas via the sea and back home, support getting the Jewish Community who of course, theres been a very steep rise in anti semitic incidents. Several jewish schools in north london felt forced to close. Yes today and at lunchtime today , theres at lunchtime today, theres going to be a big pro palestinian rally in Central London starting at about 12 near the bbc, finishing at 3 00 in whitehall , some 100,000 and whitehall, some 100,000 and Police Officers on duty. So ive got that figure wrong. Not as many as that, but a lot of police on duty and real concerns. I think its going to be difficult for them to police this because waving a palestinian flag thats seen as acceptable but waving a hamas flag or saying anything directly anti israel could be regarded as hate crime and would be a crime. So i think its to going be a difficult afternoon for many commuters , cities up and down commuters, cities up and down the country, jewish communities and also very tricky for the police to deal with this protest today. Ill tell you whats interesting in all of this, catherine. As we were just to talking colonel de Bretton Gordon , is colonel de Bretton Gordon, is the Prime Minister saying no civilians safety is paramount, is there a sense that he is just having to say that . Because as the colonel pointed out, and i hadnt thought of it in those terms before , or if israel had terms before, or if israel had no concern about civilian safety in gaza , they would have just in gaza, they would have just gonein in gaza, they would have just gone in and flattened it. And thats not what theyre doing. So although no civilian casualties are inevitable and they are taking it could be argued theyre taking as much care as they can under the circumstances. Circumstances. Well , certainly theyve given well, certainly theyve given this advanced notice. Theyve dropped tens of thousands of leaflets, havent they , warning leaflets, havent they, warning people in gaza to move. But at the same time , you know, nearly the same time, you know, nearly 2000 people in gaza have already been killed. Hundreds of thousands have already been displaced. Even before this. So, yes , certainly israel are trying yes, certainly israel are trying to minimise casualties , but to minimise casualties, but theres already been very , very, theres already been very, very, very many. And the fact that theyve instigated this blockade by basically cutting off suppues by basically cutting off supplies of food, water, fuel, etcetera , means that the people etcetera, means that the people in gaza , an incredibly difficult in gaza, an incredibly difficult position , anne, because not only position, anne, because not only are they running out of food, theyve got no power but clean water. People in hospitals in the northern part of gaza that have been told to move. A lot of these people cant cant move. What do the doctors do . Do they what do the doctors do . Do they leave them . And also, theres 50,000 pregnant women in there not going to be able to access even. So nothing easy even basic care. So nothing easy about any of this. And of course , the Scottish First ministers in laws humza yousaf speaking yesterday, are currently stranded in gaza. His mother in law is from dundee. Shed gone law is from dundee. Shed gone out to visit his brother in law and their young family and now are absolutely stuck. So a terrible situation for people in gaza, a terrible situation for people in israel and forjewish people in israel and for jewish people in israel and for jewish people up and down the uk. Really very worried about what happens here for their own safety for and the safety of people back in the middle east. Catherine thanks very much indeed for joining catherine thanks very much indeed forjoining us this morning. I guess that people like politicians , Prime Ministers politicians, Prime Ministers like rishi sunak, feel they have to say that just to make i dont to say thatjust to make i dont know, to try and placate. Know, to try and placate. I dont know. I mean, its not that its not a valid point, but as i say, you i mean, thats its the big concern. Civilians in gaza is the concern because if civilians die or theyre seen not to be, theres not enough care taken then that obviously is going to stoke further problems down the line. Were making it sound so clinical, but it was just that point from colonel de Bretton Gordon when he said if they didnt care , he said if they didnt care, theyd have just flattened it. Yeah theyd have just bombarded the place, wouldnt they . And that strikes a chord, doesnt it, in saying, well, theyre doing what they can in, in an impossible situation. Well, well impossible situation. Well, well this is it. It is. It is absolutely impossible. Its absolutely impossible. Its impossible to do things which are going to keep everybody happy. Are going to keep everybody happy. And youve got to feel happy. And youve got to feel your heart has got to go out to innocent civilians in gaza who have nothing to do with this. Have nothing to do with this. But thats a responsibility of hamas, isnt it . They knew what would come after what they did. And they slaughtered civilians. And they slaughtered civilians. They slaughtered civilians. But we heard earlier as well, didnt we, from Charlie Peters there, that they have now opened up to the corridors sort of evacuation corridors that hopefully will speed up the evacuation process over the next few hours. But it does make you few hours. But it does make you worry that something is going to happen today. Happen today. Yeah, we will. Of course , yeah, we will. Of course, keep you up to date here in gb news as that unfolds throughout the course of the day. Lets have look of the other have a look at some of the other stories the stories heading into the newsroom 927. Newsroom at 927. Well , air france has raised well, air france has raised its security alert to the highest following the highest level following the death of teacher in a knife death of a teacher in a knife attack. It happened at a high school in the Northern City of arras. A former student of the school has been arrested and president macron called the incident a result of barbaric islamist terrorism. Islamist terrorism. A think tank has warned freezing work age benefits could save the treasury 4 billion. But at a huge cost. The Resolution Foundation says that scrapping the uprating of working age benefits, as they call it, in line with Price Inflation next yean line with Price Inflation next year, would reduce the incomes of 9 million households by an average of about £500 a and madonnas latest tour is set to kick off in londons o2 tonight and is billed as a one of a kind experience, which staff say has no band on stage and a set list featuring about 45 songs in june i if you remember, madonna postponed the original start date of her latest tour in canada after she was hospitalised. Hospitalised. Now i am relieved. Where i live this morning that it wasnt raining , which makes a change raining, which makes a change absolutely hammered down last night. Walking the dog, which is now a thing which has to be done to be even in the dark and rain or shine. And then he jumped in a pond. But yeah, they do that. But yeah, they do that. So thats be washed. When he got back. Well, i was going to say, at least hes dark brown. My little dogs jumps in dogs white. She jumps in a puddle. To have a full puddle. She has to have a full bath aftennards. Oops, there you go. Oops, there you go. But its it should be but its not. It should be drier today , if a little drier today, if a little chillier. Its definitely colder. Its definitely colder. Should more . Should we find out more . Good morning. Should we find out more . Good morning. Im should we find out more . Good morning. Im alex good morning. Im alex deakin. This is your latest weather update from the met office for gb news. Much colder out there this weekend. Certainly compared to last weekends, but many will enjoy plenty of autumn sunshine. There are showers around , are some showers around, particularly over the north coast of Northern Ireland, feeding england feeding into north west england and north and west wales. And its very windy in its been a very windy night in northern scotland. Still very blustery the showers blustery here. And the showers here falling as snow over the hills. Plenty of sunshine, hills. Plenty of sunshine, though, parts of though, across eastern parts of england, scotland and england, southern scotland and in the far south as well. The small chance of a shower here, but many places stay but many places will stay dry. It is feeling chilly out there, however. Temperatures struggling to the teens in the to get into the teens in the south, single figures further north feeling colder north and feeling even colder here that will here with the wind that will continue through this continue to ease through this evening. But if youre heading out be prepared out tonight, again, be prepared for a chill as temperatures drop pretty sharply. Still some showers for western scotland and parts of north wales, north west england. But for many, itll be a dry clear night tonight a dry and a clear night tonight and colder tonight. And even colder tonight. So a greater chance of a frost for Northern England northwards, certainly the countryside. Certainly in the countryside. Temperatures close to temperatures down close to freezing on sunday morning. And everywhere youll notice that chill again for many, chill again. But again for many, quite a bit of sunshine tomorrow morning, blue skies lasting for most of the day across eastern and southern england. Again, a few showers in wales and few showers in north wales and some for northern parts of scotland where the winds at least lighter tomorrow least will be lighter tomorrow compared today. Lighter winds compared to today. Lighter winds further south as well. But temperatures really struggling a lot colder than last weekend. Lot colder than last weekend. Okay , time to turn the okay, time to turn the central heating on then basically , yes, i think it might basically, yes, i think it might be at least for an hour a day or something, just to give it a boost. Anyway, lots more heading your a moment. This your way in just a moment. This is. 934. Lets get the latest on whats happening in the middle east at the moment. Well go to israeli journalist yotam confino, whos in, i think, tel aviv. Yotam whats the latest. Aviv. Yotam whats the latest. Well, the latest is that there were just rockets fired over tel aviv. So i had to run for shelter just a couple of minutes ago. But of course, there is another situation which is more focussed on right now, and that is gaza, which is experiencing heavy bombardment by israel. And israel is, of by israel. And israel is, of course, encouraged civilians to move from the northern part of the gaza strip to the southern part. And i was just at an idf briefing, a military briefing, where they said that they had announced just two safe corridors where people can move safely for around six hours. And of course, theyre hoping civilians will do that because if they dont, the death toll in gaza will rise significantly. So that evacuation period has now been extended. Do you get the feeling that something is going to happen today, something more. More. Absolutely. Im not sure if absolutely. Im not sure if a Ground Invasion will happen today, but israel is constantly moving into the next stages of the war. Thats what the military spokesperson also said. Military spokesperson also said. And he said yahya sinwar , the and he said yahya sinwar, the head of the hamas terrorist organisation, you are a dead man. So they are hunting hamas down from the very , very top to down from the very, very top to the very, very bottom. And weve the very, very bottom. And weve also seen elite soldiers on the israeli side crossing into gaza and simply securing the side of the border on the gaza side. And trying to rescue hostages. So now were constantly moving into new stages of this of this war. I mean, what is interesting in that statement, yotam, is that obviously a lot of the hamas leadership are in other countries studies which would indicate perhaps that there is other stuff going on elsewhere. Other stuff going on elsewhere. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. Yahya sinwar, who is the leader of the military leader, he is in gaza. But you have other leaders. You have, for example , khaled mashaal, who is example, khaled mashaal, who is in qatar, who is also still speaking on behalf of hamas. You have saleh aruri , who is also have saleh aruri, who is also speaking of. Hes a high level member of hamas. Hes in lebanon. Hes sometimes in syria. So, yes, i do think that we will see targeted assassinations across the middle east. But for now, its gaza. East. But for now, its gaza. Thats the main focus. And of course, the northern border with lebanon, where israel and hezbollah have exchanged fire in the past week. Actually and i think , as you said at and i think, as you said at the very beginning there , the very beginning there, rockets have been firing overhead. And you are there in overhead. And you are there in what looks like a beautiful part of the city. What is it like for ordinary people around you at the moment . Its highly stressful. I was justin its highly stressful. I was just in a bomb shelter now, which it isnt really a bomb shelter. Its literally just a room or a stainnell where its more safe than in other apartments where you dont have apartments where you dont have a bomb shelter. And you had two kids, three year old and a five year old sitting there , you year old sitting there, you know, covering their ears and being being scared. Its a people are very , very scared. People are very, very scared. This is not the usual hamas israel war. This is something entirely different. But again, i have to stress that we have the luxury, especially in tel aviv, of running for shelter like this, whereas in gaza, you simply do not have that. The entire gaza strip is more or less in ruins and people are homeless and hundreds of thousands basically , which is thousands basically, which is i mean, what you point to the interesting problem here in that were talking about civilians , were talking about civilians, you know, hamas, a terrorist organisation. Organisation. You can understand the fury and the fury of the israelis against them. I should i should clarify. But what what what you dont have here is , is what dont have here is, is what happens to those civilians in gaza who are you know, youve got to say, as innocent, some would argue , as the civilians in would argue, as the civilians in israel. Israel. Absolutely. And the reason absolutely. And the reason why the military and the government are not prioritising the civilians as their top priority right now is because they say hamas is the sovereign in gaza. It is hamas that was democratically elected and although many years ago. But it is hamas that is the sovereign in gaza, they have the responsibility to protect the civilians. Israel cannot both protect civilians in gaza and in israel. Israel is not the sovereign in gaza and israel also says that hamas is actively blocking civilians from leaving the northern part of the gaza strip because they are interested in raising the death toll on the civilian side because its in their interest to have a narrative coming out to have a narrative coming out to the world that israel is a war criminal state, that is slaughtering civilians. So yes, you can say that israel is not prioritising civilians at the moment. They have admitted that their main priority is hamas, but but if you look at what hamas did on the other side, thats where israel feels they have justification to do what they do right now. I mean, youre a journalist just living and working there in israel have i dont know how long youve been working as a journalist there, but is this an extraordinary time for you to suddenly see things getting so much worse , so fast . Much worse, so fast . Absolutely. Ive been here since 2018, so six years and its been non stop coverage going from Prime Minister netanyahus corruption trial to wars in gaza to, of course , this wars in gaza to, of course, this Huge Division inside israel this yean Huge Division inside israel this year. But this is something else. This is something entirely different. The National Trauma thats unfolding right now , the thats unfolding right now, the horror that you hear from eyewitnesses from morning till evening, from what they experienced. What is like like experienced. What is like like the Prime Minister says, its isis just worse what they did to civilians. And near the gaza civilians. And near the gaza border, communities is simply something thats indescribable and a lot of people have questioned if this is even true, if its fake news and weve gotten to the point where israel had to release these horrific pictures of babies murdered simply to tell those questioning it, that we arent we arent spreading fake news. This happenedin spreading fake news. This happened in addition to the dozens of eyewitnesses that have talked about this. And i spoke ive spoken to two of them. So there is, of course , a national there is, of course, a National Trauma unfolding here. But, yes, it is by far the worst that ive experienced since i came here and started working in 2018. Okay. Yotam confino, good to okay. Yotam confino, good to see you. Thank you very much see you. Thank you very much indeed. Thank see you. Thank you very much indeed. Thank you. Thank you. And its nice. Ill tell you what strikes me. This is every time were talking, especially today, actually when were talking to people, its putting another element on it. And especially when were talking about at this sort of internal conflict that many of us have in being absolutely appalled by what has happened to israel and but also having concern for civilians in gaza. And its when civilians in gaza. And its when you then hear some of these extra layers and unpack it a little bit and its that awful hobsons choice, isnt it, where you sort of say, well , what can you sort of say, well, what can you sort of say, well, what can you do . What can you do . And you do . What can you do . And especially as yotam was saying there with hamas actually not wanting civilians to be evacuated, you know, wanting the civilian casualty numbers to be higher because it supports their cause and it puts a different spin on it all. And theres something so unbelievably poignant and heartbreaking about looking at the scene behind when we were talking Charlie Peters talking to Charlie Peters earlier well. Blue earlier as well. Beautiful blue sky. It should be sky. I mean, it should be a beautiful, beautiful country at peace and instead the most horrific war is unfolding in front of our television cameras. And then when we talk to that former israeli member of Parliament Earlier on this morning in the 6 00 hour where she was saying the problem, one of the problems here is that you have people on all sides of israel who whose main mantra whos whos methodology is simply that israel should not exist. It absolutely needs to be exist. It absolutely needs to be destroyed. And thats again, thats when you when you look at it from that perspective. And i think if were if thats what now Prime Minister netanyahu, netanyahu is saying about hamas, well, it is. Yeah. Theyve got to destroyed. Theyve got to be destroyed. Theyve got to be destroyed. But if you you know, if youre over here in the uk and if not jewish, then if youre not jewish, then perhaps you dont appreciate some of those pressures. And some of those pressures. And its and as weve said all day, its and as weve said all day, its whether you sort of wish there was some solution where yes deal with hamas, deal with the terrorist organisation and everyone else gets left alone. But sadly , as colonel hamish de but sadly, as colonel hamish de Bretton Gordon was saying , in Bretton Gordon was saying, in conflict , that Bretton Gordon was saying, in conflict, that isnt an option as much as you dont want it to be. But whose fault is that . And in this scenario, its hamass fault, right now. Well move on, though. Its 943. And coming up in just a few seconds, all the sport with aidan 947. Welcome back. Youre listening to a very cold breakfast with stephen and anne. Its freezing there. Really is. Should we go through the latest sport now with aidan magee . Were going to talk retirement and early retirement. Yeah, well, i its to yeah, well, i think its to good a really stellar name good when a really stellar name retires from sport. I think its good to reflect on it properly because once someones retired, you dont speak about it as much anymore, sporting anymore, do you . In sporting terms, old. Terms, its 38 years old. Alastair cook, renounced his Alastair Cook, he renounced his retirement all forms of retirement from all forms of cricket yesterday retired cricket yesterday. He retired from five ago from test cricket five years ago in a year later, he in 2018, a year later, he received his knighthood. He already so hes already had a cbe, so hes racking the honours, isnt racking up the honours, isnt he . Then, you know, 26,000 he . And then, you know, 26,000 runs in all of test cricket and then 74 centuries on top of that i what would he go on to do . Because our commentator i think so i could see him doing that. I mean, hes a sort of guy, though. I could see taking up maybe a senior role in administration within ecb. Administration within the ecb. You still you know, cricket does still have a bit of an image problem, and i think somebody like him is very telegenic. And speaks very telegenic. And who speaks well who maybe very telegenic. And who speaks well cricket who maybe very telegenic. And who speaks well cricket into who maybe very telegenic. And who speaks well cricket into thelo maybe very telegenic. And who speaks well cricket into thelo next1aybe take cricket into the next next era. Fantastic quote from era. But a fantastic quote from him yesterday as well. He said from old boy who from the eight year old boy who first for Wickham Bishops first played for Wickham Bishops under 11 to now i end with a strange feeling of sadness mixed with above all, with pride, although above all, im suppose with pride, although above all, iryou suppose with pride, although above all, iryou can suppose with pride, although above all, iryou can retire suppose with pride, although above all, iryou can retire at suppose with pride, although above all, iryou can retire at 38, suppose with pride, although above all, iryou can retire at 38, thatsse if you can retire at 38, thats quite a lovely thing to say. Exactly. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Mean. I mean, exactly. But i mean. I mean, you consider what he achieved as well. Went to australia well. He went down to australia with the ashes with england, with the ashes series in 20 1011, a defiant display of batting helped england first ashes england win their first ashes series in 24 years. Series down under in 24 years. So hell have that. And so hell always have that. And were seeing a little bit of a passing of a generation now. Passing on of a generation now. Hes much a player who hes very much a player who thrived in the test environment, the red ball environment, and were the were seeing more because of the demands of television. Were seeing cricket go towards more of term, short, short of a short term, short, short form, palatable of the form, more palatable form of the game. May have the game. So he may have been the last of breed that see, but last of a breed that we see, but i thought was important to i thought it was important to give due mention because give him due mention because because, you wont be because, you know, we wont be talking in five years talking about him in five years time there be a new time because there will be a new generation upon us. Youve got yeah, just youve got literally 20s. Lots of rugby. Exactly. Huge games today. England on tomorrow course england on tomorrow of course against a few weeks so twickenham a few weeks back so thatll be revenge mission. Thatll be a revenge mission. Wales are first up today against argentina 4 00. Argentina in marseille at 4 00. Its to happen this its all going to happen this weekend. Last. Weekend. Lovely. At last. On time. Brilliant aiden on time. Brilliant stuff. Thanks very much indeed. And how misinformation and now how misinformation has spread following that spread online following that hamas on israel and of hamas attack on israel and of course, israels response as the two sides continuing to battle and the misinformation still spreading. Spreading. And during a major event like armed conflict, many social media users share misleading or baseless claims, including mis captioned imagery or altered documents , in an effort, of documents, in an effort, of course, to shape public perception. Well, earlier, we spoke to an expert on all these things, andrew eborn not always believing. Believing. And thats the key sort of message. And what they have now, the people within their armouries, all sorts of things, artificial intelligence, which armouries, all sorts of things, arti1alwaystelligence, which armouries, all sorts of things, arti1always talkingce, which armouries, all sorts of things, arti1always talking about, h armouries, all sorts of things, arti1always talking about, how armouries, all sorts of things, arti1can1ys talking about, how armouries, all sorts of things, arti1 can make king about, how armouries, all sorts of things, arti1 can make peopleout, how armouries, all sorts of things, arti1 can make people say how armouries, all sorts of things, arti1 can make people say anything you can make people say anything in any stage you can thats terrifying. It isnt that terrifying. It isnt that terrifying. It isnt that terrifying. And you can have audio clips slovenia, which audio clips and slovenia, which is election in days is their election in two days beforehand , theyre neck and beforehand, theyre neck and neck. But there was a released audio about a discussion with one of the candidates talking to a journalist about how to rig the election. And it turned out that this was entirely fake. So this particular candidate lost and it went to the other side. It might have been the first election decided by deep fake. So key to that is make so the key to that is make sure because get you because you can get images you had zelenskyy might remember had zelenskyy you might remember i this beforehand, i spoke about this beforehand, surrendering video surrendering to putin in a video. So i is one of the big things. So i is one of the big things to watch out for. But its not just ai and theres a number of example where you can get doctored images. And ive got a few which ive been digging every single day. Sort every single day. Theyre sort of stories. So you get of fake news stories. So you get altered documents. Theres one about which issued about biden, which was issued about biden, which was issued about pledges 8 billion about where he pledges 8 billion of military aid to israel. And it looks official and so on and so forth. 8 billion, which would have been a huge thing released. What actually this document is, is false. It was actually originally approving 400 million for ukraine on july the 25th, 2023. And basically they posted all of this out there to spread that disinformation. The other that disinformation. The other thing you get is obviously things which are mis captioned. So when the basically happened on october the 7th and the paragliders went in, there was footage showing basically it says hamas gunmen can be seen paragliding into israeli Music Festival and launch massive drone attack. Well, this was the thing again, this was mis captioned because this was old footage. And actually what it was was basically an Egyptian Paratroopers were skydive ing at an Egyptian Military academy in cairo. So you find a lot of these sort of patterns and things where documents are either altered or theyre mis captioned. And but the problem is with this and this is this is the perennial problem with social media that someone posts it knowing its wrong. But the people who see it and repost it dont know that theyre posting lies. Absolutely. Lies. Absolutely. And elon musk, he announced that on the monday. He said there were about 50 million posts on x alone , all to do with posts on x alone, all to do with the conflict. And the trouble is, thats what happens. People look at these things. Some of these false videos are seen to a million times and so on and so forth, and it gets quite alarming. We urge alarming. So we would urge everybody about some tips everybody talk about some tips in but all sorts of in a moment, but all sorts of things. Youve got to be really, really you post. Really careful what you post. One scandalous one of the most scandalous things is obviously hits things is obviously which hits the use the headline, is the use of children either in defence mechanism or whatever. And there was video horrendous video was a video horrendous video which labelled with children which was labelled with children in a cage, a chicken coop cage which got millions of views. Heres, heres the picture here. Theyve blacked which theyve blacked that out, which is horrendous and it looks horrendous deliberately. There what happened . Five what happened . It was five children, apparently. Was children, apparently. Was somebody laughing at their predicament and if you check this on things, what the x user who was called the wokeist, i think his name was, who said alleged footage of hamas keeping children in cages. Why . What purpose this serve . Why are purpose does this serve . Why are they israeli hostages . 15 minutes later, he said correction. They are palestinian correction. They are palestinian children being held in cages by israeli Law Enforcement , children being held in cages by israeli Law Enforcement, Army Officials. And what actually happened . Neither of those were true. People looked at that sort of story. They looked at the footage and its actually posted a few days before the conflict even started. And thats it. Even started. And thats it. You believe fake news. Stick with us. Yeah. Youve got to be so careful. So careful. And that was just some kids playing in the chicken coop with their parents, apparently. I have got something nice to read. Oh, go on, then. Afternoon. Well, researchers in america have found edward the eighth. Thats the one who abdicate his unpublished memoir. He wrote a memoir, apparently. He wrote a memoir, apparently. And its really cool. And it could actually rescue his reputation. Reputation. Oh, well, there you go. Edward and mrs. Simpson. Yeah, thats right. Well, now that would be an interesting telegraph if you fancy a read. But i shall be reading that this afternoon. Stuff. Well, that oh, lovely stuff. Well, that is from us. Were back is it from us. Were back tomorrow morning at 6 00. But esther are here next esther and phil are here next with morning with saturday morning live after your weather. Temperatures struggling to the teens in the to get into the teens in the south, single further south, single figures further north even colder north and feeling even colder here wind that will here with the wind that will continue to ease through this evening.
