Our top story. This morning is that 1100 people and i believe to have been killed on both sides of the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Well, the fighting which israels officially declared to be a war, started with a massive air and land assault by hamas from the gaza strip into southern israel on saturday. It has been a very, very disturbing and busy weekend. And since then, israel has conducted a heavy bombardment of gaza in retaliation. But hamas, which retaliation. But hamas, which controls the gaza strip, has continued to fire more rockets overnight. Meanwhile, many israeli families continue their for search missing loved ones, feared kidnapped by armed palestinians who broke the security cordon and entered israeli communities. And these are these are pictures which are very, very disturbing on the front of the papers. But people who were at that Music Festival on saturday and then abducted , kidnapped, and then abducted, kidnapped, goodness knows what has happened to them, which adds a particularly sinister aspect to all of this. Well, questions are now being raised over how the renowned Israeli Intelligence services was seemingly caught so off guard. And gb news pip tomson reports on an attack thats become known as israels 9 11. Become known as israels 9 11. Its one of the longest running conflict in the world. But the scale of whats been happening is unprecedented. And happening is unprecedented. And it was a religious holiday. Israeli families were relaxing or praying. No one saw this coming, not even , it seems, coming, not even, it seems, israels sophisticated Intelligence Services as videos and photos of dead israelis emerged on social media, so too did images of armed men from hamas , taking soldiers and hamas, taking soldiers and civilians into captivity in gaza. Israel is at war. The response from its Prime Minister. Graham what happened today has never been seen in israel. And i will make sure that it does not happen again. The entire government is behind this decision. The idf will immediately use all its strength to hamass capabilities to destroy hamass capabilities. We will destroy them and we will take mighty vengeance for this black that they have this black day that they have forced the state of israel forced on the state of israel and citizens. And its citizens. Within hours, airstrikes on gaza killing many palestinians. Gaza killing many palestinians. As this footage released by the Israeli Air Force claims to show hamas targets being destroyed. A hamas targets being destroyed. A mosque, blocks of flats being reduced to rubble in seconds as tensions between israelis and palestinians have been rising since the start of the year. But in the west bank, the territory between jerusalem and the jordanian border that israel has occupied since 1967, no one expected hamas that controls gaza to intervene. Israel has gaza to intervene. Israel has not been a priority for the countries that still officially call for peace via a two state solution. Now it is impossible to ignore Barack Obamas American Administration was the last to try and help create a separate palestinian state. Today, the people of israel under attack, orchestrated by a terrorist organisation, hamas is in this moment of tragedy. I in this moment of tragedy. I want to say to them and to the world and to terrorists everywhere, that the United States stands with israel. States stands with israel. I want to express my absolute solidarity for the people of israel. Now is not a solidarity for the people of israel. Now is not a time for equivocation , and i am equivocation, and i am unequivocal. Unequivocal. There is a peace plan to end this century long conflict between palestinians and israelis for control of land. The violence of the last few daysis the violence of the last few days is a deadly reminder of what happens when a push for peace is shelved. For too long. Pip tomson, gb news speaking to gb news Israels Deputy ambassador to the uk , he held ambassador to the uk, he held back tears as he discussed the scenes after the attacks. And scenes after the attacks. And she has blood all over her body , grabbing her by her hair and the terrorist shoved her into a car and her eyes petrified , my car and her eyes petrified, my eyes thinking what theyre going to do to me , what kind of people to do to me, what kind of people commit these atrocities to other people , to children , these lets people, to children, these lets go to robert foulkes. Robert is the defence editor of the Evening Standard on all of the Evening Standard on all of this. And robert , i know you of this. And robert, i know you know this situation. So many know this situation. So many commentators obviously well frequented with it and journalists, but not the general pubucin journalists, but not the general public in the uk. They havent got a clue who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. With all of this and this push by the palestinians over the weekend, why now . Why the timing of this . Because it was a brilliant piece of deception. Its one of piece of deception. Its one of the most extraordinary pieces of deception carried out in the very difficult history of israel as an independent state since 1947. For 48, the last really bad breach of or lapse of Israeli Intelligence was exactly 50 years ago over this festival of yom kippur, where our syrian and Egyptian Forces attacked. This time, it was much closer to home. The palestinians, it now appears , had prepared this appears, had prepared this attack. Bring valiantly. They had given no intelligence leaks. This is the most important thing that this was coming. And thing that this was coming. And there are various revelations, particularly by the Reuters Agency, that have done an in depth investigation on that. This was trained for and prepared for, for up to a year. And the israelis hadnt a clue that it was going to happen. It was for prepared even to the extent that they built up an artificial israeli settlement inside gaza to train their commandos in how to assault this. Yet none of this was seen. And there was a full phase operation in which civilians were the targets. They were targets for killing and of course, for kidnapping. And thats the big problem for israel now, can go on attack , israel now, can go on attack, but it doesnt want to endanger the lives of this 100 or so or possibly even more hostages now dispersed throughout densely populated gaza , which youre populated gaza, which youre looking at now right. And that is the ace up the sleeve, which i suppose the palestinians have. And why why palestinians have. And why why risk poking the bear . I mean, risk poking the bear . I mean, israel would be a much superior force and can strike back at will here with air power, for instance , the American Fleet. Instance, the American Fleet. The mediterranean American Fleet is now off the coast of gaza. So so its an unwinnable situation for the palestinians militarily, surely. Its something that they surely. Its something that they can do in the coordinates of new warfare, new old warfare, because theres also the political subversion lviv diplomatic streak. Diplomatic streak. Sorry to go back to 1973 again, 1973 led to one of the biggest oil crises and crises in the western economy that theyd seen since world war ii. What happens next . It is quite clear that hamas is saying to its allies and the arab world seems quite divided on this. Youve got to come and help the 2. 3 million arabs in gaza living in very difficult situations. But its big ally this time , which its big ally this time, which obviously wasnt around in 1973 because it was an entirely different regime. Is iran when we look at this, its the main piece that ive written overnight for the standard. It overnight for the standard. It has moved iran to absolutely centre stage. It is the crucial centre stage. It is the crucial suppuer centre stage. It is the crucial supplier and agitator both in the ukraine conflict and in this conflict because of a lot of the weaponry and possibly the know how came from iran for this one. And it is on a scale in guerrilla warfare by the palestinians that hasnt been seen before. Seen before. Robert, just finally , what robert, just finally, what happens next . We will see a lot more bombard payment by israelis i there will be rockets fired out as long as they have them. They have quite a deep supply. They have quite a deep supply. And the big question is if when and how the Israeli Ground forces go in. And by doing that, by going into the gaza strip, do they automatically endanger the lives of those hostages, by the way , the hostages werent an way, the hostages werent an incidental they were the main aim it now seems, of the battle plan of the palestinians that theyve been working so very cleverly. And part of it, by the way, was to knock out all the local intelligence since the electronic means by by the israelis. They locked and they israelis. They locked and they knocked out the Main Communications centres of the southern command, just opposite the gaza strip of the Israeli Defence force. Robert, really appreciate your take on things. Well talk again. Robert fox is the defence again. Robert fox is the defence editor of the Evening Standard. Lets take another look, if we can, at that live image that was coming in to us this morning from the gaza strip. We were seeing of smoke seeing pictures of smoke billowing from the billowing up there from the latest its latest israeli strikes and its worth just reflecting really that be speaking to that we will be speaking to people within jerusalem and people from within jerusalem and indeed from inside palestine throughout the course of the morning. Course, the morning. And of course, the latest is very much latest situation is very much evolving. 100 hostages still evolving. 100 hostages still being held inside gaza by hamas, different locations , as were different locations, as were being told. And of course, hugely distressing for the families and loved ones of everyone involved there as i say, we keep a close eye on that developing picture for you throughout the course of the morning. Morning. Shani, look, who is 23 years of age, had been attending an outdoor Music Festival near kibbutz urim when the terrorists stormed the area. Stormed the area. Well, the time is 612. Youre watching breakfast on gb news with eamonn and isabel. Lets ang with eamonn and isabel. Lets bring you up to date with the latest developments in israel and gaza. Prime minister has expressed his solidarity with israel. He said that terrorism will not prevail. He promised the uk will help israel in the wake of the attack. So far, more than a thousand palestinians and israelis have been killed as the escalation continues. Escalation continues. Well, number 10 has projected the israeli flag onto downing street to show support for the people of israel. There are similar displays of solidarity across the world, including keith berlin and in new york. The government is working to establish the whereabouts of two british citizens who have been reported missing. Shortly after hamas raided the musical festival at the weekend and israeli communities near gaza , israeli communities near gaza, its been confirmed that another briton , 20 year old nathaniel briton, 20 year old Nathaniel Young , has been killed. He was young, has been killed. He was serving with the Israeli Defence force and the london mayor, sadiq khan says that extra Police Patrols are being carried out to reassure jewish londoners. It comes after social media videos circulated of people in the centre of the capital appearing to celebrate hamass attack on israel and the metropolitan police says it has increased patrols across the capital. Speaking to gb news, the transport secretary mark harper also condemned what is going on. Matters , of course, matters, of course, a proscribed terrorist organisation in the United Kingdom. So anybody expressing support for it is committing an offence. And i would hope that offence. And i would hope that the metropolitan police will investigate carefully any reports of anybody doing so and well take all the necessary steps aftennards as. Steps aftennards as. Now to other news this morning and a cautiously confident keir starmer has been speaking at the Labour Party Conference saying that his party are bang on schedule to win the next general election. Next general election. Yesterday, deputy leader Angela Rayner said that labour will act as a stark contrast to the conservatives as never been so unified, so focussed around one aim to give britain its future back. But the tories also have one singular focus focus to desperately cling on to power. Desperately cling on to power. Thats why the tories levelling up project was dead on arrival. Up project was dead on arrival. You cannot level up from the top down. The tories only know how to centralise power and hold wealth where it benefits them. Wealth where it benefits them. Well , what can we expect well, what can we expect today . Our gb news deputy Political Editor tom hannood is in liverpool and can bring us up to date. Good morning to you, tom. Look, obviously wild events probably overshadowing for conference labour a little bit today and well talk about that in a second. Ed, but who are we going to hear from today and what are the latest lines coming out of the conference . Well, the set piece, the set piece speech will take place at midday its the shadow midday today. Its the shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves, turn to take to the stage where shes to take to the stage where shes to going or at least is expected to going or at least is expected to announce a pretty sizeable package of plans and reform to do with energy infrastructure. Do with energy infrastructure. Now, it all sounds a bit technical and perhaps a little bit dull, but it is quite important. It seems that the labour party is going to strip out the need for the same sort of Environmental Impact assessment that that that is mandatory now for green infrastructure. So its a way of infrastructure. So its a way of speeding up, getting that sort of Green Energy Infrastructure going, getting spades in the ground, getting stuff built thats a big, big theme of this labour conference this week. Labour conference this week. Its about how can we get rid of the red tape to get stuff built in britain . In some ways its interesting. Its what interesting. Its what economists might call a supply side reform policy. Thats the sort of stuff that liz truss was wanting to do last year. How do you get the economy growing faster . And its certainly what Rachel Reeves will be talking about today. Its interesting to look at those parallels. Of course, in a time when budgets are stretched, when were not expecting the labour party to be able to spend much more money, although there are some reports that they might be looking to do a little bit more borrowing. Its likely, however, that the central growth agenda of the labour party will be needed to be done without tax and spend measures. But with regulatory reform. Um, okay. Reform. Um, okay. Interesting. And i touched on it before tom, but the issue of whats happening with israel and palestine is a sensitive one for the labour party. Not that long since they were in special measures for being instituted, anti semitic sir keir starmer has worked really hard to root out this problem. And yet here you in liverpool and out you are up in liverpool and out on a fringe event, not part of the official labour party organisations. But hamas was being and jeremy being applauded and Jeremy Corbyn who of flirted corbyn also who sort of flirted with supporting hamas in the past, attending those conferences and raising a few eyebrows. Eyebrows. Certainly now its important to stress that, of course Jeremy Corbyn is not currently a labour party mp. He has been suspended from the party, but it is true to say of course he was leading this party for quite some time. Sir keir starmer sat up on stage with him as one of his key shadow cabinet members, and i remember a couple of years ago at this Party Conference under a different leadership when the floor of the plenary hall was stormed by palestinian flags. And it really was quite a different atmosphere. I have to different atmosphere. I have to say that there is a big difference now inside the secure zone of this conference. Youre more likely to hear support for israel. The current leadership of the labour party used the phrase that israel has a right to defend itself, words that youd never hear the previous iteration of the Labour Party Leadership using. However, leadership using. However, Walking Around this conference hall, there are people who have swapped out their labour party lanyards for palestinian solidarity lanyards. There is of course, a palestinian solidarity booth that is just in the building next to this one inside the secure zone, although as you rightly mentioned, its outside the secure zone that perhaps the most fruity language is taking place. There are individuals handing out leaflets that dont appear to be connected to the labour party, but that could be deemed as anti semitic. Indeed, there was one individual standing outside the conference yesterday handing out leaflets, trying to get the United Kingdom to repeal the ihra definition of anti semitism. Thats the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of anti semitism , the one thats of anti semitism, the one thats adopted by the uk government and many other western governments around the world. Certainly one individual waving a palestine flag outside this conference yesterday wanted that repealed. Okay , tom, thanks very much okay, tom, thanks very much indeed. Id like to point out weve got james murray coming on the program. Hes the shadow financial to secretary the treasury. Were delighted to welcome on at around 7 24. Welcome him on at around 7 24. Thanks very now, tom. Thanks very much for now, tom. Not 25. Not 25. No, i was just reading 24 literal. Sorry. Just after 20 past the governments plan to deport Asylum Seekers to rwanda for processing is set to be challenged in the Supreme Court. The boeing 767 was scheduled to fly the first group of migrants to kigali, the capital city of rwanda. But as the evening drew rwanda. But as the evening drew on, it became clear that the plane and the migrants were going nowhere. Legal challenges, including one from the European Court of human rights, meant the small number of passengers had now been whittled down to nothing. It was an embarrassing nothing. It was an embarrassing blow for then Prime Minister boļ¬s blow for then Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his home secretary, priti patel, Boris Johnson and his home secretary, priti patel , who secretary, priti patel, who dreamt up the scheme to stop Channel Crossings. The legal world is very good at picking up ways of trying to stop the government. Stop the government. Since then, flights have been on hold as legal challenges progress through the courts. We will pass new laws to stop small boats , making sure that if small boats, making sure that if you come to this country illegally , you are detained and illegally, you are detained and swiftly removed. Swiftly removed. On the 19th of december last yean on the 19th of december last year, there was some good news for the government when the High Court Ruled that the plan was lawful. However, that decision was overturned six months later when appeal court judges decided there was a real risk rwanda could send migrants back to their home countries. Their home countries. What the court today has found is that rwanda is indeed not a safe country. People who were seeking asylum in this country would be at real risk had they been put on a plane to rwanda. Rwanda. But the government has refused to scrap the policy. Refused to scrap the policy. Priti patels replacement Suella Braverman, introduced the illegal migration act, making it an actual duty for the government to deport Asylum Seekers who enter the uk illegally. I would love to be having a front page of the telegraph with a flight, a plane taking off to rwanda. Thats my dream. Thats my dream. Thats my dream. Now. Today marks the beginning of the end of this slow legal process. A three day Supreme Court hearing in which the government will argue only it has the expertise to determine if rwanda is safe. Although a decision is not expected until the end of the yean expected until the end of the year. Rishi sunak has already indicated that if they win, he will ignore any further migrant appeals and injunctions from the echr , all of which mean the next echr, all of which mean the next flight might actually leave the runway. And that is when the true test would begin. If the true test would begin. If the boats keep coming, the last three years will have been for nothing and the rwanda policy will have turned out to be a tory flight of fancy ray addison gb news. But anyway, say, a very good anyway, like we say, a very good win for arsenal west ham, drew with newcastle. Brighton and they 2 2 with they got a 2 2 draw with liverpool. They were singing about demanding a replay. I think it was just a little bit of banter. There yeah, wolves won and aston villa won as well. I have to say, i did enjoy it and did realise how how it and i did realise how how really good was at football. Really good he was at football. I remember living through do you know what era a united know what era as a united supporter, how supporter, i didnt realise how really was. You were too really good he was. You were too close fergie. I think that close to fergie. I think that you probably blindsided by his kind of take on it because, you know, old friends and everything. You know, he given. But, you know, he got given a hard time. Hard time. Um, did give a hard time. Um, he did give a hard time. Um, he did give a hard time. Our friend glenn hoddle as um, he did give a hard time. Oand,5nd glenn hoddle as um, he did give a hard time. Oand, you glenn hoddle as um, he did give a hard time. Oand, you know, hoddle as um, he did give a hard time. Oand, you know, glenna as um, he did give a hard time. Oand, you know, glenn iss well. And, you know, glenn is a fantastic guy. Stitched him up and it was, you know, we see a one side of and im not one side of that and im not quite convinced because id be more in the glenn camp because i know glenn very well and i wasnt so sure about you. The glenn hoddle right get us the glenn hoddle right of reply exclusive interview. Okay. And him on okay. And well have him on anytime wants. Anytime he wants. Anytime. Its anytime, anytime. Still to come on on gb news breakfast this morning, well be looking at the morning newspapers and how theyve been reporting events in israel. Time. Time. 636 so youre tuned into breakfast on gb news with eamonn and isabel. Lets bring you up to date with the latest developments in israel and gaza. More than a thousand people and believe have been and i believe to have been killed sides this killed on both sides of this conflict. The fighting which israel has officially declared to be a war, started as a massive air and land assault by hamas from the gaza strip into southern israel on saturday. Were now getting reports of an attack on a refugee camp which well try to stand up for you very, very shortly. Very, very shortly. Yeah, number 10 has projected the israeli flag onto downing street to show support for people of israel. There are similar displays of solidarity across the world, including kyiv, berlin and new york. The government is working to establish the whereabouts of two british citizens who have been reported missing in israel shortly after hamas raided that Music Festival and israeli communities near gaza, its been confirmed that another briton, 20 year old Nathaniel Young, has been killed. He was serving with the Israeli Defence force. The Israeli Defence force. And were going to take a look at the newspaper front pages. As you might expect, pretty much one paper dominating this morning. The Financial Times taking away all money matters, they matters, focusing on what they describe israel war with describe as israel at war with deadly hamas attack. Deadly hamas attack. Guardian features images of tel aviv in israel and reports the death toll on both sides has surged to over 1000 people. The metro sums up the ferocity of the fighting with their one word headline. More merciless telegraph leads with news that america is sending warships and jets to help israel. This is their mediterranean fleet at the daily star , in fleet at the daily star, in fact, is encouraging its readers to repel an invasion of bedbugs from france by joining the resistance. Resistance. A bit of a different theme from them, perhaps, and well be talking about it shortly. So we will we will. So we will we will. And its quite humorous, humorous , unless youre actually humorous, unless youre actually being affected by paul coyte came in covered in bites this morning paul coyte said im itching ive got lots of bites. I said, if youve got bedbugs, well get to the bottom of that with him later on. But were joined this morning to go through, have a distance between me my side. Me and paul coyte on my side. This later on, you can hear him already. Have actor christopher we have the actor Christopher Biggins bringing us biggins here bringing us sunshine writer and sunshine and the writer and commentator holdsworth. Commentator candace holdsworth. Good and welcome the good morning and welcome to the papers reviewed them papers. We havent reviewed them with so thats my with you before, so thats my first time joining us. So no. Mr biggins, start you biggins, lets start with you and very serious matter , as and a very serious matter, as weve just been discussing in the papers. And you to the papers. And you want to start with guardian. This start with the guardian. This morning and the death toll of many across the board, but many well across the board, but also the hostages that have been taken a worry about their future. Yesterday, watching the news was so distressing. You know, one was reduced to tears. At least i was as particular least i was as the particular story that i, i, i want to hit on is , is the poor girl, noah, on is, is the poor girl, noah, who had been at this festival and she was taken away on a motorbike and she was with her boyfriend and she was screaming, dont kill me, dont kill me. And then they showed this video later to her father , who later to her father, who absolutely was so distraught. He said, ive ive looked after my daughter for 25 years and this has happened. What can i do . I cant do anything. I mean, it is so pathetic, chris. I think youre absolutely right. That is the image we should also say, as well as no others. Shani lock, whos 29, 23 years of age, and shes on the front of age, and shes on the front of many of the papers today as well. There she is there. And her body was being paraded and by social media and indeed by members of the hamas organisation. Organisation. These are the things that stay no matter what the rights and wrongs and the political implications of all of this is. Thats what you remember. Thats what you remember. But you know, what was interesting about this . I was shocked that this was happening. I mean, i thought that things were calm there. I had no idea. It came out of the blue, this situation. Well, thats because none of us no matter what hamas thinks , is whether fatah thinks thinks, is whether fatah thinks no matter what israel thinks, nobody understands what goes on. Right. Youre right. So ive lived through this through Northern Ireland and people have no idea, nor do they care, really. And then its brought to their attention and they go, oh, thats shocking. They go, oh, thats shocking. Something should be done about it. But the thing is, what should it . Where should be done about it . Where do stand on it . Candace do you stand on it . Candace me. Its just oh, its for me. Its just been a horrific weekend. I mean, been a horrific weekend. I mean, ive seen many videos seeing the absolute wilful destruction of human i never thought human life that i never thought id in my lifetime. I think id see in my lifetime. I think many answers do need i think many answers do need i think many questions need to be many questions do need to be answered about what went wrong, how how the how this happened, how the Intelligence Services didnt foresee. Many theories have foresee it. Many theories have been up. One is that been offered up. One is that israel is experiencing a lot of internal conflict at moment internal conflict at the moment over Benjamin Netanyahus judicial. Judicial. These are these are pictures. This is breaking news were this is breaking news that were going to stand up now. Were receiving pictures of a Palestinian Refugee camp that has been hit by weaponry. And this is in gaza. Thats the aftermath of that. I mean, i, aftermath of that. I mean, i, i dont that looks like a street. I dont know. Yeah, it doesnt look like the refugee camp that ive seen the refugee camp that ive seen the pictures of on reuters this morning. But, yeah, the palestinian has Palestinian Refugee camp has been israeli been hit by these israeli airstrikes there have been a airstrikes and there have been a number those overnight. Number of those overnight. Whilst been whilst you will have been sleeping can imagine, sleeping and as you can imagine, the huge loss of life, know, the huge loss of life, you know, whos in a refugee camp, its civilians. Lots of questions civilians. So lots of questions about gets resolved about how this all gets resolved and lots of pressure on the International Community to try and dial down rhetoric and dial down the rhetoric because no resolution is going to be found through more violence. Violence. Yes, i feel like were entering a period of greater global instability, and sure global instability, and im sure a people the a lot of people have felt the same. Mean, was same. I mean, there was obviously the outbreak of war in eastern between Ukraine Eastern europe between ukraine and this has and russia. And then this has happened. And i really feel like a lot people just feeling a lot of people are just feeling very the future very negative about the future and things just and that things are just becoming and more becoming more and more and more uncertain. You know, one uncertain. And, you know, one thing we from history is thing we know from history is that very small things can can spark off huge conflicts all over the world. Something can happenin over the world. Something can happen in region of the happen in one region of the world and it can spark off global conflict and theyre all suffering, too, from these earthquakes. Earthquakes. Mean, this is its just so, i mean, this is its just terrible whats over terrible whats going over there. I its just awful. There. I mean, its just awful. Well, i really feel for those people. Really do. Well, the people. I really do. Well, the concern lebanon concern is obviously lebanon getting involved. That hezbollah did we know that hezbollah did some attacks and theres been retaliatory attacks the retaliatory attacks by the israelis them. And theres israelis on them. And theres also the concern of the involvement of iran. And obviously, theres been lots of financial from the states Financial Aid from the states into so itjust Financial Aid from the states into so it just suddenly into iran. So itjust suddenly widens a much bigger , widens out into a much bigger, much more complex conflict. And much more complex conflict. And as you say, you know, its whether or not we all get sucked into it and how this all gets resolved in this huge earthquake in actually in afghanistan, which actually had bigger death toll were had a bigger death toll were seeing in israel palestine seeing in the israel palestine conflict, there. And conflict, 2000 dead there. And hardly getting any coverage because this this shocking. Because of this this shocking. Well, there is there is other news around. Lets see. We come to for london this next one, candice. And this is a clap against the ulez cameras and clap in favour of the blade runners and explain to us what this is. Obviously, based on the clap for the nhs type thing. This is a viral video, so lets see it and tell us what were looking at here. Candice sure. So this is the video taken of a community in havering and they are clapping and banging pots for the blade runners. So these for the blade runners. So these are the men and presumably some women as well who in disguise cut down the ulez cameras in protest against the ulez policy. And in this particular community, there seems to be a lot of support for them. I mean, i know privately a lot of people support the blade runners, but this is a very public display of support. Support. Obviously, it is illegal. So we wouldnt want to be encouraging any illegal activity. Interesting to see activity. But interesting to see this reaction from havering. This reaction from havering. Well, that video is viral also, christopher, youve got a viral video and this is off the bedbugsin viral video and this is off the bedbugs in france. And the big bedbugs in france. And the big scare is and i do have to say, this would make me think about going to france or paris. This would make me think about going to france or paris. And going to france or paris. And the fear is that they will spread with the eurostar or whatever and come to the uk. Christopher have you ever had bedbug . Ive never seen one, no, have. Have you . Have you . Yeah. And i was staying in a terrible, terrible dive of a hotel. And you know, it seemed hotel. And you know, it seemed good at the time. And it was the right price. I was young and it is. You feel dirty. Right price. I was young and it is. You feel dirty. And that is is. You feel dirty. And that is what i can only tell you. It is disgusting. And you see these pictures. I mean, just in case people listening on the radio, ill just say you should be grateful that you cant see the video. So its horrible. Its absolutely horror. And this the on the metro. You this is on the on the metro. You know, trains. I mean, its know, the trains. I mean, its just disgusting. Sit down. Dont sit down. Dont sit down. Thats and i think its on the way oh, wow. The way here. Oh, wow. Begins what happens when and begins what happens when they bite and they suck they bite you and they suck blood and whatever. Yeah. Do they stay on your body . How they then stay on your body . How do do you get them off do you how do you get them off your skin. No, you to sort of brush no, you have to sort of brush them away. And there is there no, you have to sort of brush th an away. And there is there no, you have to sort of brush th a cream. And there is there no, you have to sort of brush tha cream you i there is there no, you have to sort of brush tha cream you canzre is there no, you have to sort of brush tha cream you can gets there no, you have to sort of brush tha cream you can get thathere no, you have to sort of brush tha cream you can get that that is a cream you can get that that helps as well. I mean, they are they stick quite its a bit like crabs. Ever had crabs. Crabs. Have you ever had crabs. Thats another one. Its like it is terrifying. Ill take your word for it. Ill take your word for it. Ill take your word for it. I got it from a costume fitting, right . You know. Well, you stick to that story i they are hard to get rid of, arent they . Are the crabs . Absolutely are the crabs . Absolutely dont let the bedbugs bite or whatever else it might be. Exactly. They absolutely cling cling on, cling on cling on, cling on, cling on some star trek. Some star trek. Right. Universities. Candice this is the daily mail. Are offering thousands of pounds in grants to trans and non binary students. They say for fake breasts and chest binders. Yeah. Yeah. So this is yeah. Yeah. So this is a story in the daily mail and its very critical of this so that its reporting that some student unions at the university of kent are offering student ice chest binders. Some Beauty Products like light cosmetic procedures. I dont know what that means towards transitioning or whatever it is. Some sort of gender affirming care and people are saying, well, this isnt being done with any medical oversight and chest binders have been criticised by people for damaging so damaging breast tissue. So theyre wondering , you theyre just wondering, you know, circumstances know, under what circumstances a students being given these things and is it being are they being looked after properly . Is it being done responsibly . Being looked after properly . Is it btheyrene responsibly . Being looked after properly . Is it btheyre saying onsibly . Being looked after properly . Is it btheyre saying its bly . Being looked after properly . Is it btheyre saying its only Ā£100 theyre saying its only Ā£100 a week per student. A week per student. I dont know how far that would go. Not very far. Not very far. I dont think. I think its the very sort of low tech things that people use. Its not a medical procedure. Medical procedure. And this is to bind your chest. Yes. To flatten your chest. Yes. To flatten your chest. I need that. I do. If that i need that. I do. If that dealt with boobs. Dealt with boobs. Amen. Amen. Could you know. But no, but seriously, i went to a Breast Cancer charity on last week and i met a man who has had Breast Cancer. Cancen yeah, yeah. And he was. He. I said, my goodness , how does that said, my goodness, how does that work . And he said, well, theyve removed the breast. Well, of course you think theres nothing there a man . Not much. But he there on a man . Not much. But he said what he really missed was the nipple and get those tattooed on. Can you . Yes. Can you . Yes. Well, a lot of people whove gone through the cancer, Breast Cancer have tattoos of cancer women have tattoos of nipples. Nipples. Oh, right. Oh, right. It just feels a bit strange. It just feels a bit strange. But why would a man, mrs. Nipple use it for . Well, i suppose. Look a bit odd. And also, perhaps. Well i dont know. Anyway, lets. He was nice. Was very nice. Yeah. Anyway night. Yeah. Anyway good night. Angela rippon. I want to talk Angela Rippon. I want to talk about Angela Rippon here. And shes been speaking and saying that her age shouldnt be a factor. There shouldnt be factor. There shouldnt be a factor. There shouldnt be a factor in her appearance on strictly. She says she has at least her regime. It reminds me of years. Christopher. She has of years. Christopher. She has at least one ice bath a week and deep tissue massage massage to maintain her body for the competition. Yeah, i share them with angela. I mean, shes older than my mum and i dont know if i would want my mum doing an ice bath. I mean, that is tough on your heart. And i know shes fit as a fiddle. Is Angela Rippon. Shes absolutely mind but absolutely mind blowing. But she, know, she, i think she she, you know, she, i think she ought to take her age into consideration, she consideration, even if she doesnt want us to. Well, but got to look after herself. But phenomenal. Herself. But she is phenomenal. But not in any way to but is there not in any way to denigrate is purely out of concern. But she is fantastic. But she is fantastic. But she is fantastic. But i mean, wonderful. But i mean, wonderful. Does does an ice bath that does it does an ice bath that affect you badly if youre well, ill tell you in the shower ill tell you this in the shower this morning. Yes. I accidentally theres the overhead and theres the handheld. Accidentally handheld. And i accidentally turned the handheld and it turned on the handheld and it hit me with freezing water. And i thought i was going to die. This is the worst feeling in the world. I absolutely hate that. I cannot believe that people do all freezing cold all these like freezing cold water and things like water therapies and things like that for your heart. If youve got any heart conditions. So you know , in your conditions. So you know, in your 70s, you probably do to be 70s, you probably do need to be a bit more careful. But i totally respect her for being phenomenal can do things phenomenal and she can do things with body i do. So with her body i cant do. So maybe i should. Sat next to her here and ive sat next to her here and see her on strictly. And then i see her on strictly. Ijust and then i see her on strictly. I just think, wow, thats amazing. Shes 79. Later this week. So she is. But i mean, jim goes but i mean, jim collins goes on why people on about people. Why do people keep on about my age . You know, it odd thing because she it is an odd thing because she looks them much looks both of them look much younger should be. Younger than they should be. Thats they should say. Thats what they should say. I know she looks like a 60 year old Something Like that. Old or Something Like that. Yeah, you know, its ridiculous to an age. To pinpoint people with an age. Youre right. Youre right. A lot of and theres a lot of longevity stuff. You look at you, you look well, youre deceiving because youre old, arent you . Im actually 78 as well. Im actually 78 as well. No, no, look marvellous. No, no, you look marvellous. Anyway right. Lets talk about wilko. Candace. A sad weekend, really. This is a viral video and you can also see it in the mail today. Page 11, closing the doors on its remaining stores. Doors on its remaining stores. These videos are hysterical , these videos are hysterical, absolutely hysterical. Yeah. Absolutely hysterical. Yeah. Have you seen them . No. Oh, its wonderful. Are we going to see it . Yes somewhere. Its marvellous. No, it . Yes somewhere. Its marvellous. No, ill do it it . Yes somewhere. Its marvellous. No, ill do it then. Marvellous. No, ill do it then. Well yeah. Theres a video of wilko staff and theyre performing so long farewell. Now that the stores are closing. I mean, different opinions on it. You can say its a bit cheesy. Its very easy. Its very easy. Theyre doing it in good humour. So good for them , right . Humour. So good for them, right . Im being told theres a bit of somebody saying, so long farewell. I dont know if that relates to this story. It does. It does. Oh, that would be helpful to know. Yes um, farewell. A wobbly know. Yes um, farewell. A wobbly disdain. Disdain. Id like to stay and taste my first champagne. Yes. No. So first champagne. Yes. No. So long. Yes. No. So long. Yes. No. So long. Farewell. Farewell. Farewell. Ill leave to say goodbye. I ill leave to say goodbye. I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye. Goodbye. For oh, i see goodbye. Goodbye. For oh, i see why you like that. Thats very good. Its hysterical, panto esque. Absolutely. Making light of, you know , making light of, you know, sad. Goodbye. Really. I know , i know. Okay, guys, for the moment. Thank you both very much indeed. Christopher and candice will be back in 40 minutes time. Um, were now going to talk about we were talking about nice weather at the weekend in london. Not so in parts of scotland. Absolutely terrifying. Yes. Ten people had to be yes. Ten people had to be airlifted to safety after the heavy rain there caused landslides several roads landslides across several roads in parts of scotland. There were amber and yellow weather alerts for heavy downpours across large parts of the country over the weekend. The country over the weekend. And the m9. Near stirling was described as barely passable bill. Well, lets get the latest on all of this from the weather journalist nathan raw who joins us this morning. Good morning to you, nathan. Good morning. Good morning. Couldnt further from it couldnt be further from the we experienced the weather that we experienced in south, but terrible, in the south, but terrible, terribly mudslides and in the south, but terrible, ter|sorts mudslides and in the south, but terrible, ter|sorts happening. |udslides and in the south, but terrible, ter|sorts happening. Tell. Ides and in the south, but terrible, ter|sorts happening. Tell uss and all sorts happening. Tell us more. Absolutely. Absolutely. Weather was now, this weather was actually of part of the actually a result of part of the weather from the south. It was the the air coming the clash of the warm air coming up the south in the north up from the south in the north and the cold air from the north. And this caused intense and this caused this intense deluge, up to six inches of rain in short period of time, in quite a short period of time, which is around a months worth. So very high amount of so thats a very high amount of rainfall short rainfall for quite a short penod rainfall for quite a short period time. And we saw the period of time. And we saw the consequences. Meetings consequences. There was meetings regarding restrictions. Regarding travel restrictions. There are still travel restrictions in place even though the rain has abated. Now though the rain has abated. Now the flooding is still going to be an issue. So traffic scotland are warning that some of the roads are still going to be impartial, able and scotrail are also warning that some of the Rail Services are going to be suspended and there is no rail replacement. So if are replacement. So if you are travelling in the area of scotland today, it is worth checking those agencies to see to make your plan. Nathan this so to nathan this is so scary to watch the devastation that were seeing there. And you mentioned scotrail. I saw some instagram scotrail. I saw some instagram footage which was the railway line through a station was just like a river. Yeah, it was. People were on the platform. Um, and it was a river that they were looking down upon. And when were looking down upon. And when we see the consequences of, of heavy, heavy downpours as such as that , i reckon thats one of as that, i reckon thats one of the scariest situations to be in. It really is. And one of the reasons for that is because it is so fast and it is so intense. And as i said, there was a months worth of rain that fell in a matter of hours. And one of the problems with that is also as well as the flooding is landslips and landslides. And that one things that that is one of the things that crashed down and caused the problems with the travel and is still today. Still causing problems today. At situation like may i look at situation like that . Think what is the that . And i think what is the best thing to do . Stay in your car. Get out of your car, and if so, where do you go and where do you go . I mean, the authorities are warning today that if you are planning to travel in the region to check, to check your travel arrangements and make only emergency travel plans, and i think way to think that is the best way to deal this, because if you deal with this, because if you are caught in of these are caught in one of these things, youre quite right. Theres little you can theres very little you can do. And its worth mentioning and its also worth mentioning that is another that on tuesday there is another weather out the west weather warning out for the west of scotland. That is a met office. Yellow warning for further top further rain. So coming on top of weve already seen, of what weve already seen, scotlands bit of trouble scotlands in a bit of trouble at moment just talking at the moment and just talking about sort of regions that about the sort of regions that were affected, it was around aviemore. I believe a of these i believe that a lot of these problems happening in the problems were happening in the highlands youre talking problems were happening in the highlethe youre talking problems were happening in the highlethe westyoure talking problems were happening in the highlethe west ofjre talking problems were happening in the highlethe west of scotlandig about the west of scotland getting affected from tomorrow. Are better are things going to get better then in other or, then in other parts or, you know, give sort of know, just give us sort of a regional picture, if you will. Yeah, i mean, the main problem is going to be perth, problem is going to be in perth, Inverness Shire stirling. Inverness shire and stirling. These regions that have these are the regions that have had the heaviest rain and its these are the regions that have hadwest, eaviest rain and its these are the regions that have hadwest, eaviest rain and its these are the regions that have hadwest, eavi said, n and its these are the regions that have hadwest, eavi said, the|d its these are the regions that have hadwest, eavi said, the west; the west, as i said, the west fringes scotland that are fringes of scotland that are going the rainfall on going to have the rainfall on tuesday. Because of the lag tuesday. But because of the lag effect flooding is prominent. Effect of flooding is prominent. So heavy so whenever you get heavy rainfall, i said, the rain rainfall, as i said, the rain has however, the has abated. Now, however, the rivers still going to be rivers are still going to be bulging with that heavy rainfall that theyve had over the weekend. Going weekend. And that is going to put a prolonged risk of flooding in so the in those areas. So really the whole region to be whole region is going to be under this threat of flooding for the next few days, at least until the river levels start to recede, start to go down recede, to start to go down again. And the rain abates a bit more, the rain is going more, but then the rain is going to so the to be moving south. So the lovely weather that weve had over the weekend make the most of in south of it because in the south of the country, across rest of the country, across the rest of england, are going to get a england, we are going to get a taste that unsettled, wetter taste of that unsettled, wetter weather the goes weather as the week goes on. Okay. Interesting okay. Interesting i suppose, of this, i suppose, in all of this, always worth giving a shout out to emergency as one always worth giving a shout out to the emergency as one always worth giving a shout out to the gentlemen as one always worth giving a shout out to the gentlemen caught as one always worth giving a shout out to the gentlemen caught up; one always worth giving a shout out to the gentlemen caught up in ne of the gentlemen caught up in these landslides these awful landslides was landlocked them. Landlocked between two of them. And to be one of the many and he had to be one of the many people had to be airlifted. People that had to be airlifted. But when youve got this kind of weather, also really dangerous to and, to be flying helicopters and, you always go you know, these people always go towards danger. So a big shout out and as you say, it out to them. And as you say, it looks like theyre going to have a few days ahead of them in a busy few days ahead of them in the particularly. Should a busy few days ahead of them in the be particularly. Should a busy few days ahead of them in the be looking. Icularly. Should a busy few days ahead of them in the be looking outarly. Should a busy few days ahead of them in thebe looking out for. Should a busy few days ahead of them in thebe looking out for. Sho as we be looking out for then as this towards reach us by this starts towards reach us by the the week . The end of the week . Nathan mean, we in nathan yeah, i mean, we in the south and were talking really from scotland, you know, all of england are to all of england are going to enjoy temperatures all of england are going to enj0jwe temperatures all of england are going to enj0jwe had temperatures all of england are going to enj0jwe had over temperatures all of england are going to enj0jwe had over the1peratures all of england are going to enj0jwe had over the weekend. That we had over the weekend. And actually noticing, and actually worth noticing, noting i think it noting we had 25. 6, i think it was at the weekend, which is very unusual this of very unusual for this time of yean very unusual for this time of year. Of the year. Now, the south of the country going to hang to country is going to hang on to those temperatures for a couple more then this what it more days. But then this what it is, is jet stream is sort of is, is the jet stream is sort of sitting across scotland over the weekend. Where that weekend. And thats where that battleground happened that brought battleground happened that b|band battleground happened that b|band of rain. And this band of a band of rain. And this band of rain going to sort of move rain is going to sort of move south south downward south eastwards, south downward across and then across Northern Ireland and then across Northern Ireland and then across Northern England and downwards week. The downwards through the week. The nicer remain downwards through the week. The nicer until remain downwards through the week. The nicer until re wednesday probably until about wednesday and turn more and then it will turn more unsettled the whole country unsettled for the whole country with returning with temperatures returning closer the time closer to average for the time of not going to be of year. So its not going to be as bad as theyve seen in scotland. That is unusual. Scotland. That is very unusual. And scotland tuesday, and even in scotland on tuesday, there weather warning out, there is a weather warning out, as i mentioned, but thats not going to as intense as we saw going to be as intense as we saw at the weekend and certainly across of country, across the rest of the country, even though going to even though there are going to be conditions be some unsettled conditions coming, its not going to be on the anything that weve the scale of anything that weve seen scotland this week. The scale of anything that weve see okay, cotland this week. The scale of anything that weve seeokay, cotland tthankeek. The scale of anything that weve seeokay, cotland tthank you. Okay, nathan, thank you. Thank is a weather thank you. Nathan is a weather journalist and really appreciate your take things and your take on things there. And i was just thinking, have i ever been really been caught short and really extreme remember extreme weather . Gb news top story this morning, more than a thousand people and i believe to have been killed on both sides of the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Well, the fighting which israels officially declared to be a war started with a massive air and land assault by hamas from the gaza strip into southern israel on saturday. Well, since then , on saturday. Well, since then, israel has conducted a heavy bombarding of gaza in retaliation. But hamas, which retaliation. But hamas, which controls the strip, has continued to fire more rockets overnight. Overnight. And meanwhile, many israeli families continue their search for missing loved ones feared kidnapped by armed palestinian who broke the security cordon and entered israeli community. As questions are being raised over how the renowned Israeli Intelligence services were caught so off guard, gb news pip tomson reports. Tomson reports. Its one of the longest running conflicts in the world. But the scale of whats been happening is unprecedent. And it happening is unprecedent. And it was a religious holiday. Israeli families were relaxing or praying , but no one saw this praying, but no one saw this coming. Not even, it seems, coming. Not even, it seems, israels sophisticated Intelligence Services as as videos and photos of dead israelis emerged on social media. So too, did images of armed men from hamas, taking soldiers and civilians into captivity in gaza. Israel is at captivity in gaza. Israel is at war. The response from its Prime Minister what happened today has never been seen in israel. And i will make sure that it does not happen again. The entire government is behind this decision. The idf will decision. The idf will immediately use all its strength to destroy hamass capability as we will destroy them and we will take mighty vengeance for this black day that they have forced on the state of israel and its citizens within hours, airstrikes on gaza killing many palestinians. Palestinians. This footage released by the Israeli Air Force claims to show hamas targets being destroyed. A hamas targets being destroyed. A mosque, blocks of flats are reduced to rubble in seconds as tensions between israelis and palestinians have been rising since the start of the year. But in the west bank, the territory between jerusalem and the jordanian border that israel has occupied since 1967, no one expected hamas that controls gaza to intervene. Israel has gaza to intervene. Israel has not been a priority for the countries that still officially call for peace via a two state solution. Now it is impossible solution. Now it is impossible to ignore Barack Obamas American Administration was the last to try and help create a separate palestinian state. Today, the people of israel are under attack, orchestrated by a terrorist organisation, hamas is in this moment of tragedy. I want to say to them tragedy. I want to say to them and to the world and to terrorists everywhere that the United States stands with israel. I want to express my absolute solidarity for the people of israel. Now is not a time for equivocation, and i am unequivocal. Unequivocal. So there is a peace plan to end this century long conflict between palestinians and israelis for control of land. Israelis for control of land. The violence of the last few daysis the violence of the last few days is a deadly reminder of what happens when a push for peace is shelved. For too long, pip tomson gb news. The Israeli Military has said today that it has struck hundreds of hamas targets in gaza overnight. It. Gaza overnight. It. But video just coming into the newsroom in the last few minutes has shown a refugee camp has been hit. Obviously, many has been hit. Obviously, many civilians there and these areas have the same infrastructure as any town because they have been there decades, where there for decades, where palestinians have been living and if youre listening on the radio, just to let you know, were seeing, frankly, distressing images of bombed out buildings people, civilians buildings and people, civilians , women, children, families being lifted from the debris there in gaza. Well , plestia blackwood is well, plestia blackwood is a journalist and shes in gaza speaking to us right now. Plestia good morning to you. How plestia good morning to you. How doesit plestia good morning to you. How does it feel . What is the atmosphere around you . Everyone atmosphere around you . Everyone honestly is shocked and surprised how like the aggression is escalating real quick, like today is the third day. The day hasnt even started yet. Already eight massacres, eight families are gone. Many buildings that were commercial buildings, houses, mosques , buildings, houses, mosques, literally everything is getting bombed like you dont know what to expect. You dont know whats to expect. You dont know whats next around 500 people were martyred here in palestine , martyred here in palestine, around 700. And the israeli side, the situation has got its just getting difficult. Minute by day. Also, the fact that the us will also be involved just makes the situation even worse. And like you dont know what to expect. Literally thats the only thing that i can say. Also the un stated that around like more than 1000 people are now displayed what theyre saying at at schools as if theyre shelters because we dont have any shelters. The situation im literally speechless that the only way that i can say right now , obviously this was started now, obviously this was started by hamas and this was, you know, as the Prime Minister here in the uk said, there is unequivocal support and nobody denies that israel has the right to defend itself. To defend itself. But when it comes to netanyahu saying to civilians in gaza to get out, you have to get out because we are going to strike you and were going to strike you and were going to strike you and were going to strike you hard. Just tell us, can civilians get out of gaza or its important to state that this hasnt started by hamas. This is basically a response to 75 years of blockade. To 75 years of blockade. Of course, theres an ongoing conflict. Sorry but this incident on the escalation on saturday began very much from that land and air assaults into israel. Israel. But its a response to what has been happening in. No, i appreciate that. And im not suggesting there hasnt been ongoing problems over the years. What i was trying to understand and for you to try and paint a picture for us, i mean, theres no airport, for example. Airstrip in example. Theres no airstrip in gaza. ļ¬n how do you get out . How do you get out . Supposed to to get out . Supposed to do to get out . Supposed to do to get out . Out . Where exactly . Get out . Where exactly . Get out . Where exactly . Well, this is my point. So when netanyahu saying get out, you cant. Right. So what is he saying . Saying . Get out. Okay. To make things clear, to get out of gaza . We have two ways. It is crossing or rafah crossing is crossing. Theyre the ones theyre the one country control it. And obviously everything is closed. Were literally living in a blockade. So there is no safe blockade. So there is no safe place to leave, like when the idf takes certain people messages, you have to evacuate. Messages, you have to evacuate. Wait, we will hit a building or Something Like you cant even leave, leave work. Go where leave, leave work. Go where exactly . You know nothing is safe here. Like when my friends who are living abroad text me how situation station. Are how the situation station. Are you are you safe for me . You okay . Are you safe for me . These questions are ridiculous. These questions are ridiculous. Were literally in a war zone. Were literally in a war zone. So safe. The anything plus , here so safe. The anything plus, here you are a freelance journalist. Youre a writer , and youre, youre a writer, and youre, well, knowledgeable in these these events. And what is going on . Did you have any suspicion , on . Did you have any suspicion, any intelligence that the hamas attack was about to take place . Attack was about to take place . No and im sure 100. If you ask this question to literally anyone, either journalists , anyone, either journalists, either politicians, either civilians , the answer will be civilians, the answer will be no, either from palestinians or from or from israelis. Like everyone is surprised and shocked. But at the same time, why are we surprised and shocked like its normal to have a response after all these years , response after all these years, you know, but still, its surprising, to be honest. Surprising, to be honest. What are your concerns . I mean, changed overnight or change over a minute . Its hard, you know, to process it. We know that there are 100 hostages being held in gaza and israel will want them back. And, you know , weve seen in the past you know, weve seen in the past that, you know, they act furiously in response to attacks as well. What hope do you have of a peaceful resolution to this, given that israel have now declared this a war . Do you think that the two state solution is ever going to work out okay, lets take into consideration that we have hundreds of hostages and they have thousands of hostages. Hostages , and theyve been hostages, and theyve been having them for years now. So maybe an negotiation we can get to a middle ground or something. But peace, i dont even know what does this word mean now, to be honest. Be honest. Yet all of this seems to have beenin yet all of this seems to have been in the planning for some time. And the hostage situation time. And the hostage situation in high important is that for hamas to negotiate mediate with i mean everybody is worried, as isabel said, about the hostages and theyre wanted back. But they are they are the ace card for hamas. Are they not . Yeah but im sure theyre safe and sound and they will help us maybe reach to not a solution, but let me say a middle ground , but let me say a middle ground, because we have hostages as well i yeah, they have. And we have. Yeah, they have. And we have. Yeah, they have. And we have. Yeah. And look, you talk about we i mean, in this country, if you were to declare support for hamas , that is support for hamas, that is illegal because they are proscribed as a terrorist organisation. You talk about, you know, we do you feel some allegiance even as a journalist, as a palestinian , to hamas. As a palestinian, to hamas. Okay. When i said we have hostages because they host the hostages because they host the hostages are civil liens, you know, theyre palestinian people. So thats why im referring to them as we because theyre civilians , basically. Theyre civilians, basically. Theyre not related to politics, to journalists , to journalism or journalists, to journalism or anything. Theyre just civilians. They also they have some of them are civilians. Thats why i stated this as a we. Okay. Plus eloquent. Okay. Plus eloquent. Thank you very much indeed for talking to us. And we say to you, please stay safe. You, please stay safe. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. So many affected by everything thats been unfolding at look, one of those 23. She was attending an outdoor Music Festival near kibbutz urim on saturday when those terrorists stormed the area. Stormed the area. To other news now and a cautiously confident keir starmer has been speaking at the Labour Party Conference. He says his party are bang on schedule to win the next general election. Well, yesterday the deputy leader Angela Rayner said the labour will act as a stark labour party will act as a stark contrast to the conservatives has never been so unified, so focussed around one aim to give britain its future back. But the tories is also have one singular focus to desperately cling on to power. Thats why the tories levelling up project was dead on arrival. You cannot level up from the top down. The tories only know how to centralise power and hold wealth where it benefits them. Wealth where it benefits them. Well what can you expect today . Well what can you expect today . Gb news Political Correspondent Catherine Forster joins us now. I can give you an idea of that, catherine. Whats in store . In store . Yes , good morning, eamonn and yes, good morning, eamonn and isabel. Yes, good morning, eamonn and isabel. Yesterday it was angela isabel. Yesterday it was Angela Rayners time to speak. Today it is that of the shadow chancellor, Rachel Reeves. Its all about the economy. As bill clintons adviser once said. Its the economy, stupid. Labour its the economy, stupid. Labour really keen to convince you at home that they are the ones who should be trusted with the economy and specifically growing the economy. So Rachel Reeves has given an interview to the mirror today. Has given an interview to the mirror today. She said that what mirror today. She said that what growth looks like to her is a thriving high street. Good jobs where you live and a jobs that support a family. And one of the main ways shes proposing to do this is through infrastructure, through planning reform specifically, it sounds a little bit liz truss, doesnt it, in terms of she actually wants to deregulate, she wants to make it easier to, as she says , get easier to, as she says, get britain building or to make it quicker to get planning approval to smooth the way to things like particularly things that will be fast tracked like gigafactories Like Laboratory arrays, like 5g infra structure. Another thing that shes likely to announce is a covid fraud recovery taskforce , if you like. Shes going to say that. Some Ā£7. 2 billion of say that. Some Ā£7. 2 billion of taxpayers money was wasted dunng taxpayers money was wasted during the covid pandemic , given during the covid pandemic, given out in fraudulent loans and in waste. She wants to bring hmrc waste. She wants to bring hmrc or the Serious Fraud office, the National Crime agency, all together and try to recoup as much money as possible. Now, much money as possible. Now, easier said than done, but she wants to paint a direct line between that and the Prime Minister because, of course, rishi sunak, now Prime Minister was chancellor and he signed all those checks. So basically he she wants to convince to us trust her with the economy and its also business day here in liverpool. There wining and dining business leaders. I was dining business leaders. I was talking to one last night who was really keen casting the mood at conference here, which is fairly cautiously optimistic. As you say , but upbeat with the you say, but upbeat with the rather more lacklustre performance last week at conservative conference. Labour certainly do seem to have the momentum at the moment, but meanwhile, you know, those comparisons may not really land with the public because frankly, all eyes are on whats happening with israel and gaza and of course this is always a sensitive issue for the labour party. Sir keir starmer very aware of his predecessors views. Hes worked hard to , you know, move worked hard to, you know, move away from the anti semitic reputation in the party, held for a time and yet up in liverpool there have been fringe events not officially linked to the labour party, but applauding hamas and indeed the Tory Party Chairman greg hands writing and calling for the whip to be removed. For one labour mp whos come out in support of a palestinian solidarity organisation. Organisation. Yes, this is always a difficult issue for the labour party and never more than now because of course under the previous leader, Jeremy Corbyn, he was pretty clearly anti israel and pro palestine. Now of course hes been booted out of the labour party. Hes out of the labour party. Hes had the whip withdrawn. He is here. He doesnt have a pass. He was caught on camera yesterday saying he condemned all the violence, but still saying that there needed to be a withdrawal from palestine. Now the labour from palestine. Now the labour leadership has been very clear, as has the conservative leadership, that they are on israels side in this, that this is a terrorist attack and that israel has the right to defend itself. I was at a fringe event yesterday with the shadow foreign secretary, david lammy. He was very clear to call hamas out as a terrorist organisation and saying that israel had every right to defend itself. But in a proportionate and pragmatic way and in line with international law. Catherine, thank you very much indeed for that update. Much indeed for that update. Meanwhile, the governments plan to deport Asylum Seekers to rwanda is set to be challenged in the Supreme Court. Theyll argue against the ruling that the policy to deport migrants to rwanda is unlawful. As ministers struggle to achieve rishi sunak pledge to stop the boats as well. Our reporter ray addison with the story. The story. 14th of june 20, 22, an all eyes are glued to live coverage of a plane sat idling on the runway at boscombe down military base in wiltshire. The boeing base in wiltshire. The boeing 767 was scheduled to fly the first group of migrants to kigali , the capital city of kigali, the capital city of rwanda. But as the evening drew rwanda. But as the evening drew on, it became clear that the plane and the migrants were going nowhere. Legal challenges going nowhere. Legal challenges , including one from the European Court of human rights, meant the small number of passengers had now been whittled down to nothing. It was an embarrassing blow for then Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his home secretary, priti patel, who dreamt up the scheme to stop Channel Crossings as the legal world is very good at picking up ways of trying to stop up the government. Since then, flights government. Since then, flights have been on hold as legal challenges progress through the courts. But the rwanda policy has not been shelved with first. Liz truss. Were also taking Decisive Action by strengthening our borders and beefing up our borders and beefing up our border force and expand the rwanda scheme. Then rishi sunak giving the scheme their full support, we will pass new laws to stop small boats, making sure that if you come to this country illegally , come to this country illegally, you are detained and swiftly removed. On the 19th of december removed. On the 19th of december last year, there was some good news for the government when the High Court Ruled that the plan was lawful. However, that was lawful. However, that decision overturned six decision was overturned six months later when appeal court judges decided there was a real risk rwanda could send migrants back to their home countries. Back to their home countries. What the court today has found is that rwanda is indeed not a safe country. People who not a safe country. People who were seeking asylum in this country would be at real risk had they been put on a plane to rwanda by morning. But the government has refused to scrap the policy. Priti patels replacement Suella Braverman , introduced the Suella Braverman, introduced the illegal migration act, making it an actual duty for the government to deport Asylum Seekers who enter the uk illegally. I would love to be having a front page of the telegraph with a fly a plane taking off to rwanda. Thats my dream. Thats my dream. Now today marks the beginning of the end of this slow legal process. A three day supreme process. A three day Supreme Court hearing in which the government will argue only it has the expertise to determine if rwanda is safe. Although if rwanda is safe. Although a decision is not expected until the end of the year. Rishi sunak has already indicated that if they win, hell ignore any further migrant appeals and injunction from the echr. All of which mean the next flight might actually leave the runway and thatis actually leave the runway and that is when the true test would begin. If the boats keep coming. Begin. If the boats keep coming. The last three years will have been for nothing and the rwanda policy will have turned out to be a tory flight of fancy ray addison. Gb news back to the addison. Gb news back to the conference now. The Labour Party Conference in liverpool. Shadow financial in liverpool. Shadow financial secretary to the treasury, james murray there for us this morning. Mr murray, good morning. Mr murray, good morning. Very good to see you. Morning. Very good to see you. Hi, good morning. Hi, good morning. Hi, good morning. You could have done without the timing of this hamas, israel situation. Im sure in the sensitivities that it has historically meant for the labour party. Well look, we labour party. Well look, we utterly condemn hamass appalling actions in israel. There can be no justified action for the terrorist attacks. The hamas has committed. We are absolutely in solidarity with israel and we absolutely defend israels right to defend itself in the face of these terrorist attacks. And im sure youll also condemn the clapping of hamas at a fringe event up in liverpool. Not linked officially with the labour party, but of course lots of people attending both events. S i just wanted to know events. S i just wanted to know where you stand on the possible removal of the whip of apsana begum. Greg hands the begum. Greg hands the conservative party chair , has conservative party chair, has written a letter calling for her to have it withdrawn after she pledged her support. Her solidarity with the palestinian solidarity with the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign should she remain in the party. Well, a decision is about removing the whip and not for me. Thats for the chief whip and the party to look at. But im really clear. David lammy is being really clear. Keir starmer everyone on the Labour Party Front Bench has been absolutely clear how united we are in standing in solidarity with israel in the face of these horrific terrorist attacks by hamas and how we absolutely support israels right to defend itself. Itself. And as regards conference s james, the health, the whole health sector, the nhs, the employment sector as well. New employment sector as well. New rules there and a lot of people will always theyll always bring up and youre the man with the purse strings. Theyll always bnng purse strings. Theyll always bring up, oh, well, how are you going for how are going to pay for this . How are you going to cost this . But the thing strikes me that thing that strikes me is that you your spokespeople, you and your spokespeople, people intent people are speaking with intent. Were to. Youre saying were going to shake up the employment world. Were to going make it more employee friendly. Were going to do things to the National Health service , which havent health service, which havent been seen or havent done been seen or havent been done since the days of gordon brown or tony blair. Well, i think whats really clear is how much change the country needs right now. You know, weve had 13 years of economic failure under the conservatives weve got people right across the country who are worse off than they were before. And weve got Public Services which are crumbling. You know, the one thing actually that i agree with rishi sunak on that he said last week at the conservative Party Conference is that its time for a change. And its just that we dont think that change can ever come from the conservative party. You know, something the conservative party. You knovwere something the conservative party. You knovwere offering something the conservative party. You knovwere offering. Something the conservative party. You knovwere offering. You nething the conservative party. You knovwere offering. You know,g that were offering. You know, were in liverpool as a were here in liverpool as a united, purposeful labour Party Offering the change the country needs to get the economy growing to improve Public Services and crucially, to people across crucially, to make people across britain better off. Can i ask you, just before we came to you, we were listening to a report by one of our colleagues about the Supreme Court rwanda Court Hearing on these rwanda flights. Keir starmer flights. And sir keir starmer has out and said even if has come out and said even if the court it to be the Supreme Court finds it to be legal, wants to do legal, he wants to axe it. Do you think thats a good idea, given that general public given that the general public very this policy and very much behind this policy and we know or very much expect that it would deterrent if it would be a deterrent if people the channel people crossing the channel well, look, i think whats really clear in terms of the governments policy, whether its the rwanda scheme or so many other policies theyve announced, is that they dont have a serious plan to actually tackle this issue. You know, theyve had 13 years. The problem has got worse. They havent got an actual plan that would help stop these illegal boat crossings and what we set out is how we would do that differently, how we would the money rather would use the money rather than wasting rwanda scheme. Wasting it on the rwanda scheme. We spend that money on a we would spend that money on a Cross Border Police force to make we could go after the make sure we could go after the criminal gangs who were responsible illegal criminal gangs who were respc crossings illegal criminal gangs who were respc crossings stop egal criminal gangs who were respc crossings stop them boat crossings and stop them happening first place. Happening in the first place. Sure that theres so much im sure that theres so much youre itching to get out if you get and the constraints of get power and the constraints of money is always there, always there at all. And, you know, you you talk about getting more money machines, more scanners. Right across the whole country , right across the whole country, changing the way the nhs operates over time at the weekends for nursing and auxiliary staff. But james, the elephant in the room surely is set dealing with the doctors and how big a priority is that . And will you solve that by throwing money at them . Well look, when money at them . Well look, when it comes to the question of strikes that weve seen in the nhs or also in many other parts of the economy, many other sectors as in the country, one of the real failings of this government , it has been their government, it has been their failure to sit down and try and strike a deal to avoid industrial action going ahead. Industrial action going ahead. You know, i think the Health Secretary hasnt met with with representatives in the nhs since, you know, a long time when he should have been sat down with them trying hammer down with them trying to hammer out solution. And thats out a solution. And thats really that we face. Really the issue that we face. Would pay them more to go would you pay them more to go ahead . Be ahead . Everyone wants to be avoided. Look, is avoided. Well, look, this is about a negotiation. This is about a negotiation. This is about sitting with the about sitting down with the employees and their representatives to try and strike a deal to avoid things going in, avoid strikes, going ahead. You know, spoke ahead. But you know, you spoke earlier the plans earlier about some of the plans that got for the nhs and that weve got for the nhs and whats really crucial about our plans indeed all plans for the nhs and indeed all of we set out is that of our plans. We set out is that any commitments make are any commitments we make are fully funded. Fully costed and fully funded. We explain exactly where the money come from. So when money would come from. So when we about extra appointments we talk about extra appointments in we explain how we in the nhs, we explain how we would close the non dom tax loophole and use some of that money to fund those extra appointments. But in the long run, it just be about more run, it cant just be about more money, you know, it has to also be about reform, which is why weve focus which you weve got that focus which you mentioned, the mentioned, about improving the service mentioned, about improving the se mri and ct scans to make sure of mri and ct scans to make sure that were catching illnesses earlier. Were using technology to make sure that were improving the health service. Improving the health service. And thats the kind of reform which in the long run will set the nhs a better path. The nhs on a better path. Im glad you brought up the issue because issue of non doms because i just, this is your job just, you know, this is your job remit. Financial remit. Shadow financial secretary treasury. Remit. Shadow financial secr able treasury. Remit. Shadow financial secrable this treasury. Remit. Shadow financial secrable this morninglry. Remit. Shadow financial secrable this morning to list you able this morning to list out all the that this out all the things that this scrapping the non dom tax is scrapping of the non dom tax is going to fund . Because ive lost track number of times track of the number of times ive it being used and ive heard it being used and explained it will pay explained away that it will pay for and the other. For this. And the other. Could you just what youre aware you just list what youre aware of stage, what its of at this stage, what its going go towards . Going to go towards . Because these scanners settling with these mri scanners settling with these mri scanners settling with the what else . The doctors, what else . Yes. So the majority of the money that we would get from the scrapping the non dom tax status, the net increase that we get to the public purse from getting rid of that loophole would go towards these extra appointments, which were talking the million talking about. The 2 million appointments year , the appointments every year, the appointments, scans, tests and so on to try and bring down the nhs waiting list. Thats the thats about half of it. Thats about the majority of the money would go on that. But alongside that, other parts of the money would some would go towards some of our other you other priorities that you mentioned , as dentistry mentioned, such as nhs dentistry and mri, ct scans and so on. But all of these policy is have been fully costed. So we have exactly how much we would expect them to cost and it all adds up within the money that we would save by scrapping the non dom status as until it all sounds very simple. I mean, i remember we were told would pay for teachers told it would pay for teachers as well, until all the as well, but until all the non doms are the ones who are dorms are not known at the minute decide theyve had enough and they can they can be wealthier living in the bahamas or something, which is what happened. Anas sannar island brought in this exact measure. They all left. Theyll just london. What if they get up and just go . Go . Well, look , its really well, look, its really important to understand where the numbers come from when were talking about scrapping non dom status. You know, these numbers that were talking about are not just ones that weve come up with. These are ones that have been calculated through independent Research Carried out by the lse and wannick university, looking at all of the hmrc data to work out how much money the non dom tax. No, no, im not im not questioning you on that. Im questioning you on that. Im questioning you on the fact. Hang on. What if they dont play ball . What if they dont play ball . If they just decide what if they just decide weve game of weve had this for a game of soldiers . Are off. Soldiers . We are off. Was saying in well, as i was saying in their model, they build in an expectation that a small number of people might leave or might change tax status as change their tax status as a result of non dom status being abolished in a way that would reduce overall revenue. But thats built in to the model. So the model and the amount of money is its expected to money that is its expected to raise includes some behavioural change, which is what youre talking about, and it sets out how much money it would raise. So these are solid numbers which have been developed independently. It shows how much you raise from scrapping you would raise from scrapping the non dom tax status and obviously bringing a obviously bringing in a replacement system for genuinely temporary residents. When people are here for a short period of time. But are here for a short period of time. But that are here for a short period of time. But that would raise the time. But that would raise the money that we then say, look, thats the money that would thats the money that we would save purse and we thats the money that we would savespend purse and we thats the money that we would savespend it purse and we thats the money that we would savespend it on purse and we thats the money that we would savespend it on improving|nd we thats the money that we would savespend it on improving public can spend it on improving Public Services for people in the uk. A final question, just a final question, james. I dont know. Did you go to a private or not . Out private school or not . Just out of interest i want to ask of interest and i want to ask you about that. I did. You did go thats a go to prep well, thats a relief, at least you relief, because at least you know a bit private know a little bit about private schools, because understand schools, because i understand over the weekend, Bridget Phillipson has admitted the shadow phillipson has admitted the shadoeven stepped foot in never even stepped foot in a private school. And yet she seems determined to seems absolutely determined to what schools what many independent schools see them, changing see as go after them, changing their status. And its come out from commons education from the Commons Education Committee member andrew lewer. He is a conservative. He says it clearly underlines that labours education policies driven by education policies are driven by spite and the politics of envy. Spite and the politics of envy. Ive noticed shes rowed back on trying to remove their charitable status now because she do that. She found she cant do that. But very much going vat very much going down the vat line , which could have also line, which could have also legal complications. But are you surprised that shes never stepped foot in private school stepped foot in a private school . Well what is driving a Bridget Phillipson , as is driving me and phillipson, as is driving me and all of us in the labour party is to try and make education right across this country better , to across this country better, to try make sure that young try and make sure that young people make sure children in every part the uk get every part of the uk get a really good education wherever they grow up. Thats whats driving us and thats why saying, look, thats why were saying, look, private schools are essentially businesses as they should pay their share in terms of vat their fair share in terms of vat and so on. And that money should go toward improving state education people right education for people right across country. Across the country. To leave it okay. Jims got to leave it there. Thank you very much indeed. James murray the indeed. James murray is the shadow financial secretary to the treasury. Thank you. But its interesting when you talk about private schools or when you talk about non dom jobs, who knows . A non dom i dont think knows . A non dom i dont think ive ever met. I know for a fact, you know, a non dom. Im not going to name them. Now. I know. I know you do. Yeah yeah, yeah. Dont push me on it. You do . Yeah, well, loads of people do. Is somebody the public eye . Im not talking about it on air, but im just to let you know. Do know, sure you do know, and im sure a lot people probably do if lot of people probably do if they about, well, lets they think about, well, lets say im not aware of knowing. And yeah. A non dom and therefore, trying to therefore, what im trying to say policies this therefore, what im trying to say popularjolicies this therefore, what im trying to say popular because this therefore, what im trying to say popular because people dont are popular because people dont know they just think, know non doms. They just think, yeah rich guys, yeah, yeah, some rich guys, whatever. Yeah, tax them whatever. Yeah, tax them and whatever, fine. And the thing whatever, fine. And the thing that also gets me though is politicians talk about and will take that money. But they dont that moneys not ring fenced. That moneys not ring fenced. That money just goes into a general partner that pays for potholes pays for potholes and it pays for motonnays and access to beaches and all sorts of things. Yeah so. So its easier said than done about what they do with that money as well. But yeah , that money as well. But yeah, they do have it in for private schools. And, and i do have to schools. And, and i do have to say that a lot of you are very defensive of your private schools. You will say that youve worked hard. Youre working background and you working class background and you want for your kids and want better for your kids and whatever. And there the whatever. And there is the theory that use private theory that if you use private medicine use private medicine or you use private schools, youre taking pressure off the system. Its interesting that its very interesting that wes streeting yesterdays out on the saying, im not the ainnaves saying, im not afraid private sector afraid to use the private sector to Public Sector. To relieve the Public Sector. And education, you know, and yet his education, you know, opposite number saying the opposite number is saying the exact opposite. And thats why exact opposite. And thats why the say, well, the conservatives say, well, hang on a minute. Is this just about division and politics of envy . And actually just. Yeah when actually it could have disastrous consequences for the pubuc disastrous consequences for the Public Sector . Well , look, something to talk well, look, something to talk about and let us know what you think. Views gbnews. Com think. Gb views as gbnews. Com or you tweet or x or b e or you can tweet or x or b e or what are you used to say . You tweet. So what do you say . Are you. I still say tweet. Are you. I still say tweet. Im old fashioned, but you could be xy. You could be axing xy. Well you could be axing xy. Well take a break. Are we taking a break . No, were actually doing a no, were doing two. A bulletin changes every day. Keeps us really interested in all of this. So lets bring you up to date with the latest developments. And these are developing coming in developing stories coming in from israel and gaza. From israel and gaza. More than 1000 people are now believed to have been killed on both the both sides of the Israeli Palestinian conflict. The which israels the fighting which israels officially declared now to be a war start with a massive air and land assault by hamas the land assault by hamas from the gaza into southern israel gaza strip into southern israel on saturday. Israel still fighting Palestinian Militants in 7 to 8 places on its own territory. Were being told that by the Israeli Defence force. Israeli defence force. And Israeli Police have also released a video they say shows the release of hostages that are being held by Palestinian Hamas fighters after gun battle in fighters after a gun battle in southern israel. Southern israel. Youre now going to see a video showing people, including children. In are we . Well, were children. In are we . Well, were not going to see this video anyway. Right . Lets not bother with that then. Okay number 10 has rejected the israeli flag onto downing street to show support for the people of israel i there are similar displays of solidarity across the world, including kyiv, berlin and new york. Governments working to establish the whereabouts of two british citizens who have been reported missing shortly after hamas raided that musical festival and communities near gaza at the weekend , its been gaza at the weekend, its been confirmed that another briton, 20 year old Nathaniel Young, has been killed. He was serving with the Israeli Defence force. Israeli defence force. We were talking earlier about the planning involved in all of this and the invasion from gaza into israel. It was like something from a bond movie. These gyrocopter cars and things and these soldiers shooting down from these like water basically massive big fans attached to what mean they fly. They fly basically. But it was very, very basically. But it was very, very futuristic , i have to say. Futuristic, i have to say. Listen , stay with us. After listen, stay with us. After the break, were going to be talking about all things sport falls. A very happy man this morning. And well also be talking about arsenals victory against tuned okay. Time to go through what is making the headlines this morning. We do that in the company of Christopher Biggins and candice hallsworth. Very good see both of and good to see both of you. And candice , were going to start candice, were going to start with with you. And this is a story from the times more than 260 bodies have been recovered from that festival site. And from that festival site. And this this was really this was really shocking. I think if hamas are trying to win any sort of sympathy or understand thing and you look at these these young people who were there on saturday, minding their own business, having a good time, and then this awful attack takes place and catching many of them as hostages here as well. As hostages here as well. Yes. Yes, exactly. Youve perfectly captured it. I mean, this is basically a story in the times saying that theyve now recovered the bodies because, i mean, up until now, they werent able to get close to the site because but because of all the fighting. But now it was now theyre there. It was a massacre basically. I mean, massacre, basically. I mean, these people were just partying. They rave the they were at a rave in the desert. They were completely unarmed. Ambushed. Desert. They were completely udontzd. Ambushed. Desert. They were completely u dont know ambushed. Desert. They were completely udont know if ambushed. Desert. They were completely udont know if youve ambushed. Desert. They were completely udont know if youve seen 1bushed. Desert. They were completely udont know if youve seen someed. I dont know if youve seen some of clips bbc news of of the clips from bbc news of some of the survivors who basically had to hide. And they said you said the best thing that you could hide. You couldnt could do was hide. You couldnt run if ran, were run because if you ran, you were in and you would get run because if you ran, you were in at. And you would get run because if you ran, you were in at. Andind you would get run because if you ran, you were in at. And therenu would get run because if you ran, you were in at. And there wasyuld get run because if you ran, you were in at. And there was ald get run because if you ran, you were in at. And there was a mother shot at. And there was a mother and she just she said she sat there and she thought, okay, im to close to going die. Its okay. Close your just and i your eyes. Just breathe. And i just imagine, know just cant imagine, you know what . That felt like what . That must have felt like it have absolutely it must have been absolutely horrifying. Images horrifying. I mean, the images were now are reminiscent were seeing now are reminiscent of from the holocaust. Of scenes from the holocaust. They really are. Well , as you saw, the father well, as you saw, the father of 25 year old noah agomani. Yeah, that man was just completely in bits and devastated. You know, the picture , this other girl, 23 picture, this other girl, 23 year old shani, look on the front of the papers as well. Its just you cant believe it. Its like watching a movie , it. Its like watching a movie, a terrible, terrible movie , a terrible, terrible movie, which, you know, people are doing just awful things to each other. And you im devastated. Yesterday when it sort of broke or the day before. And i just or the day before. And i just was its speechless at home. You know, it was just unthinkable that this could be going on now. Well, its just also the civilian death toll. You know, obviously, you talk about those people minding their own business. We also had 78 palestinian children killed overnight. You Benjamin Netanyahu saying two civilians in gaza get out. But they cant. You understand israel have the right to defend themselves. They have retaliate. But have the right to retaliate. But when a refugee when that involves a refugee camp, children , families, you camp, children, families, you know, theyre response has to be proportionate as well. And, you proportionate as well. And, you know, everything just needs to calm down. And how on earth do you do that is such a big challenge. And i suppose, you challenge. And i suppose, you know, got united know, weve got the united naļ¬ons know, weve got the United Nations to nations desperately trying to calm things down. Whats your view in terms of whether this spills over into a wider conflict with the situation in lebanon, the situation in iran . Lebanon, the situation in iran . And, you know, could we be seeing an escalation in a sort of Global Crisis . Really . Really . Its possible. I mean, i think a lot of this is very reminiscent of the yom kippur war, israel caught war, where israel was caught off guard holy holiday. And guard during a holy holiday. And what is, is as with what the problem is, is as with those wars, you could get attacks from south, attacks from the south, south and north, which represents and the north, which represents and the north, which represents a challenge militarily. How a huge challenge militarily. How do you handle that . Of course, america and britain many america and britain and many countries the world have countries around the world have pledged support. Israel pledged their support. So israel will fighting alone in will not be fighting alone in this it is true. This war. But it is true. I think we live in a time like i said earlier, great global said earlier, of great global instability. Think instability. And i think its getting and harder to getting harder and harder to contain things and to calm things down. But how does hamas remotely believe that they can win such a conflict with israel . Looking at israels military might and the fact that their allies , as the usa, have taken allies, as the usa, have taken their mediterranean fleet and now parked it off the coast of gaza as well, did they not get the message . I dont know what has happened. I think we really need to understand people are saying that iran was backing this and iran has urged them to do this. Iran has urged them to do this. Iran has urged them to do this. I dont know if thats been verified, though. These are just various theories that have been floated. But so far, the usa are saying cant find saying that they cant find any evidence that iran are associated with this. Yes. But then it suits them to say , well, then it suits them to say, well, also iran was very quick to come out to well done after out and to say, well done after the attack, werent they . The first attack, werent they . Really quite shocking. Yeah, they always will. I think, know , what think, though, you know, what makes difference . I think makes a big difference . I think with other conflicts in the with with other conflicts in the past theres just no past is theres just no prevaricating from the international prevaricating from the inteilikeonal prevaricating from the inteilike ,1al prevaricating from the inteilike , were going to stand just like, were going to stand with you and were going to do just like, were going to stand with ļæ½ needs d were going to do just like, were going to stand with ļæ½ needs to vere going to do just like, were going to stand with ļæ½ needs to bee going to do just like, were going to stand with ļæ½ needs to be done. G to do just like, were going to stand with ļæ½ needs to be done. Soo do just like, were going to stand with ļæ½ needs to be done. So i do what needs to be done. So i think very important. But think thats very important. But what done their what hamas have done to their own shocking own people, the shocking you know, many know, there are many palestinians gaza who palestinians in gaza now who said theyre because said theyre afraid because theyre like, is to theyre like, what is going to happen they werent happen to us . They werent consulted, presumably, any this. And you see, what they all forget, christopher, the forget, christopher, is that the rest world doesnt really care. They dont understand and i dont care if were talking about ireland, if were talking about ireland, if were talking about middle east, wherever were talking about africa, it is an internal local thing that those locally understand it. But the rest of the world scratched their head and think, well, why cant they just get on with each other . I know the absolute right even. And that is the problem. And youre dealing with and also youre dealing with egos too. Thats the other awful thing i think going you know thing i think going on. You know , they really believe that theyre the right thing. Theyre doing the right thing. Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. You know, and that is that is. And how can you conquer that . You cant. And whos to say theyre not doing the thing . You know, terms of you know, in terms of nationalism . True nationalism . Thats true fanaticism but it fanaticism or whatever. But it is their right thing as opposed to elses right thing. To anybody elses right thing. Your very welcome. Were your views. Very welcome. Were back from christopher back with more from christopher and after and candice right after yeah, were talking about here dunng yeah, were talking about here during the break, theres a big tv program on tonight, 9 00, the reckoning on bbc one. Its called the reckoning. And this is about how Jimmy Saville got away with what he did. Away with what he did. Yeah. And steve coogan is playing Jimmy Saville. And what ive seen, he doesnt very well the pictures and ive seen a few clips. Absolutely brilliant clips. Hes absolutely brilliant. I think its going to be fascinating because what happened . Did you ever meet happened . Did you ever meet Jimmy Saville . Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. Was hideous, wasnt yeah. It was hideous, wasnt it . I can think about it . If i can think about it, i can back the smell of can bring back the smell of nylon , which is used to wear all nylon, which is used to wear all the and cigar smoke. Yeah. The time and cigar smoke. Yeah. I mean, it was he was not a nice person. Person. Thing is, i look and the thing is, i look back, mean, then didnt know back, i mean, then i didnt know he a nice person. But he wasnt a nice person. But i do remember it was about control with him. Everything he did was with him. Everything he did was about control. All right, well, about control. All right, well, jemmy, if you come in here, well do this and well do that. No, no, no, young lad. What well actually do is were going to do it this way. And really, you wouldnt like to see me angry because not a very angry because im not a very nice person with a angry but thats it. You should have played it. The. The threat. The threat was there all the time. All the time. And when you consider, of course, that the bbc hid everything because of course, three major course, he had three major tv series with huge viewing figures. Yeah. I mean, he was such a star. Yeah. Im so grateful i never got to go on jimll fix. It i did right a lot. Did you . Desperate to go on. I wanted freckles. You wanted freckles . You wanted freckles . That all i wanted. Well, that was all i wanted. Well, that was. Freckles. Oh, sweet freckles. Oh, sweet freckles. There is that song you know, there is that song all want for christmas is my all i want for christmas is my two front teeth. Yes. You know, but wanted freckles, but you just wanted freckles, frankly, ridiculous. I think this will be an uncomfortable watch. Will be. I think i think it will be. I think it will be. And its over four nights, so i think its going to be sister to be quite incredible. A sister to play, though. My goodness. What my goodness. What what a character yes absolutely. What a character. Well, especially since people remember him and therefore, they remember what hes what hes like. But trust us to have a clip. But its not in. Right. Think but its not in. Right. I think thats footage there, is thats real footage there, is it . Yeah, i think that could be. But no, honestly, i thought i could be looking at something. I know that it was incredible that way. I know that it was incredible tha yeah. Way. I know that it was incredible tha yeah. Anyway. I know that it was incredible tha yeah. Anyway so thats yeah. Anyway so thats tonight reckoning bbc one tonight the reckoning bbc one 9 00. Yeah. Yeah. Shall we go to the march of electricity pylons . Candice electricity pylons . Candice labour planning to tear up planning laws if they get into power. Yeah. What does this. Power. Yeah. What does this. Whats the story here . Yes. Yes. So this is a story in the mail. Rachel reeves has basically addressed the fact that need massive that we need massive electrification across the country , i. E. To meet net zero country, i. E. To meet net zero goals. But she knows that one of the big problems why this isnt going on is that the planning regulations it takes a long time to get things approved. So she says, do you know what . Case, rightly in that case, rightly so, because mean, if i remember because i mean, if i remember correctly , in the 90s and the correctly, in the 90s and the 80s 90s, all the 80s and the 90s, all the Scientific Research said about the i dont know what you would call it, theres a you get you get the electricity and then around it there is a whatever substation. Oh no. Oh no theres substation. Oh no. Oh no theres an aura, theres a sort of aura around it which is real. Right. And there have been cases in the past where people have thought that Housing Developments near pylons have caused cancer and whatever. Yeah. So i dont pylons have caused cancer and whatever. Yeah. So i dont think its a good thing having electricity pylons in your back garden and they are an eyesore to yeah, they are an eyesore, but its obviously more expensive to dig up the ground and bury them. Yeah, but thats the way they should be doing it. Yeah. They solve this yeah. They need to solve this though. Mean, know, though. I mean, you know, theres rhetoric around though. I mean, you know, the|zero, rhetoric around though. I mean, you know, the|zero, but rhetoric around though. I mean, you know, the|zero, but thehetoric around though. I mean, you know, the|zero, but the actualļæ½ around net zero, but the actual building things doesnt building of things just doesnt happen. And i mean, how are we going all these going to charge all these electric mean, need electric cars . I mean, we need way more electricity. We need electric cars . I mean, we need way more charging y. We need electric cars . I mean, we need way more charging points. Eed electric cars . I mean, we need way more charging points. You just really just feel like no ones really getting business. Getting down to business. And she address this. She is trying to address this. But if you say i mean, but if what you say i mean, people may be concerned, in people may be concerned, then in that may be like, that case, they may be like, well, actually, dont well, actually, i dont want electricity pylons in my area, though has that shell though she has said that shell offer in return for that. Offer things in return for that. So convince people that maybe it could bit uphill could be a bit of an uphill struggle. But, you know, will it make difference what we do . Make any difference what we do . Thats thats all the thats thats my fear all the time. Come compared to countries like india and russia china like india and russia and china and brazil and whatever. Does it matter what we do . No, it doesnt. Doesnt. Well, i guess you lump in Energy Security as well, too. All of it, dont you . So its not cleaning up our not just about cleaning up our act about not act, but its also about not being dependent on other countries. And you know, shes Rachel Reeves is adamant that this will unlock Ā£200 billion of private investment rewiring britain. Britain. Well, well see. I mean, the thing is as well, its also just Building Nuclear power stations. I mean, i think what weve seen with the Energy Crisis that with the Energy Crisis is that we problem with we have a real problem with energy and way Energy Security, and were way too reliant importing energy, too reliant on importing energy, which just driven our bills which has just driven our bills up. You see up. And, you know, you see people nick clegg opposing people like nick clegg opposing the new nuclear the building of new nuclear factories and you see how factories and you just see how shortsighted that is. Opposing . Whats he opposing . Whats he opposing . So it was in 2010, he didnt want Nuclear Nuclear energy , and want Nuclear Nuclear energy, and now hes for it. Well, he isnt and he isnt. But they would have he said that they wouldnt have he said that they wouldnt have come on line until 2023. And you think, well, actually that would have been really useful. But, you know, all this Business Private business about private investment, you saw the Prime Minister last minister basically lying last week said that the first week when he said that the first leg of hs2 will run into euston station, and then it emerged as two days later. No, it wont it unless there is private investment. So he makes out hes investment. So he makes out hes going to fund it. He doesnt. So what is private investment want . They want stability. They want they want stability. They want predictability. They want to know to happen, not know whats going to happen, not governments flipping and flopping keen to flopping as theyre all keen to say these days. Should we talk about the all important conker champions . Oh, no. Oh, no. This is this is exciting. You see, this is one of the big stories of in the stories of today in the newspapers and a woman was a woman in. Do you hear that, girls a woman was crowned conker queen and she was extra static as you would to be take the title for the third time. Shes won it. She must be some conker i id like to see her knuckles i that ones dressed as. That ones dressed as. Wheres wally . Wheres wally . When i was kid. When i was a kid, you always worried people would play conkers and youd think, oh , i dont like that think, oh, i dont like that because you hit your knuckles. Because you hit your knuckles. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. It was. Its a really yeah, it was. Its a really rough game, i think. You know, youve got be careful. Youve got to be very careful. It out by the theyd face it out by the time i was at school. You just didnt it. The teachers didnt play it. The teachers didnt want you doing it. Ever have clackers at did you ever have clackers at school . Whats the clacker . They these two big balls. They were luminous, orange were luminous, green or orange and you clacked . Oh, yes. You did that. And then would did that. And then they would break wrists and things like that. I never saw a clacker. Wasnt there also a thing with five balls . You put on your desk or something . Oh, yeah. You one something . Oh, yeah. You hit one of thats not clackers. No thats not clackers. No clacker clackers were a massive craze, massive careers, they clacker clackers were a massive craze eventually. Areers, they were eventually. I think, or less banned i think, more or less banned because too many fingers were broken was. Broken or whatever was. Guys , thank you again. So guys, thank you again. So guys, thank you again. Shortly begins. Candice thank shortly begins. Candice thank you very much now. Were you very much for now. And also take a look at is what weve got. Is what weve got. Israel continues its bombardment of the gaza strip in retaliation for hamass rocket assault. There are now over 1000 israelis and palestinians is dead as the escalation enters its third day. There are fears that the conflict could spread across the region. America is sending warships to support israel from the mediterranean. Well have the mediterranean. Well have the latest throughout the program. Program. In other news, the Labour Party Conference is in full swing after a strong opening from Angela Rayner. The shadow from Angela Rayner. The shadow chancellor will take to the podium and our deputy Political Editor will be there. Editor will be there. Also this morning, is this the biggest test of all for the governments plan to send Illegal Migrants to rwanda . Illegal migrants to rwanda . A hearing will get undennay today at the Supreme Court to decide once and for all if the policy is legal. Well have all the details on that one at and after nigel farage has claimed that there is a gap in the political for market a party that will take back the word brexit. B rexit. We brexit. We will debating is brexit broken . Broken . Are you satisfied with brexit . Well be debating it. Let us know your views. Thats coming up at around 20 past and let us know your views on, say , let us know your views on, say, the labour leadership , the the labour leadership, the people who may be your Prime Minister or your deputy Prime Minister or your deputy Prime Minister in a year or so from now. Let us know what you think of Angela Rayner, what you think of keir starmer, what you think Rachel Reeves what you think of, of any of them. Let us know and well reflect those for you today. Heres Jonathan Vautrey reflecting the weather and a mixed bag. It is a calm start to the week for many of us, but there is rain on the way as we head later on. So join me later to find out when you can expect to see it. Just a reminder of that address. Get in touch with. There it is on your screen, vaiews gbnews. Uk. Or you can vaiews gbnews. Uk. Or you can tweet or at. Tweet or at. Gb news. Okay. It is our top story this morning. More than 1000 people are believed to have been killed on both sides of the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Now, this is the largest escalation in decades. Israel has declared war in response to an air and land assault by hamas from the gaza strip into and theyre still there. Southern israel. Israel. Well, israel continues to retaliate with a heavy bombardment of gaza , but hamas bombardment of gaza, but hamas has continued to fire more rockets overnight. Rockets overnight. Many israeli families are searching for missing loved ones feared kidnap by armed palestinians who broke the security cordon and entered israeli communities. And so there are questions being raised over how the renowned Israeli Intelligence services were caught so off guard and gb news pip tomson has been reporting on an attack thats become known as israels 911. 911. Its one of the longest running conflicts in the world. But the scale of whats been happening is unprecedent noted it was a religious holiday. Israeli families were relaxing or praying. No one saw this or praying. No one saw this coming. Not even, it seems, coming. Not even, it seems, israels sophisticated Intelligence Services as as videos and photos of dead israelis emerged on social media. So too did images of armed men from hamas, taking soldiers and civilians into captivity in gaza. Israel is at captivity in gaza. Israel is at war. The response from its Prime Minister to what happened today has never been seen in israel and i will make sure that it does not happen again. The entire government is behind this decision. The idf will immediately use all its strength to destroy hamass capabilities. We will destroy them and we will take mighty vengeance for this black day that they have forced on the state of israel and its citizens as within hours, airstrikes on gaza killing many palestinians. Gaza killing many palestinians. As this footage released by the Israeli Air Force claims to show hamas targets being destroyed. And a mosque blocks of flats reduced to rubble in seconds. We were under the safety of god inside this mosque. We prayed at it yesterday. Prayed at it yesterday. Suddenly, the mosque was struck without any initial warning and without any initial warning and without telling any of the neighbours. They made elderly people, children and women scared. Copies of the quran were shattered on the ground. The shattered on the ground. The mosque is completely destroyed. Why. Why. Tensions between israelis and palestinians have been rising since the start of the year. But in the west bank, the territory between jerusalem and the jordanian border that israel has occupied since 1967, no one expected hamas that controls gaza to intervene in israel has not been a priority for the countries that still officially call for peace via a two state solution. Now now it is impossible to ignore Barack Obamas American Administration was the last to try and help create a separate palestine state are under attack orchestrated by a terrorist organisation. Hamas. In this moment of hamas. In this moment of tragedy , i want to say to them tragedy, i want to say to them and to the world and to terrorists everywhere, that the United States stands with israel i i i want to express my absolute solidarity for the people of israel. Now is not a solidarity for the people of israel. Now is not a time for equivocation , and i am equivocation, and i am unequivocal. Unequivocal. There is a peace plan to end this century long conflict between palestinians and israelis for control of land and the violence of the last few daysis the violence of the last few days is a deadly reminder for of what happens when a push for peace is shelved. For too long. Peace is shelved. For too long. Pip tomson gb news there is a lot of you who think this is not an israel hamas war. This is an israeli v iran war. And in the last hour, the Israeli Military has said that it has struck hundreds of hamas targets in gaza overnight night, including a refugee camp which has been reportedly targeted by israeli missiles. These areas have the same infrastructure as any town after decades of palestinians living there. Now , youll see very shortly now, youll see very shortly here the distressing images of bombed out buildings and people being lifted from debris. Palestinian hospitals report they are ovennhelmed by civilian casualties as well. Israeli police have also released a video they say shows the release of hostages held by Palestinian Hamas fighters. This Palestinian Hamas fighters. This is after a gun battle in southern israel. The video shows people including children wearing only undennear with Israeli Forces as gb news cannot independ verify that video. Independ verify that video. We have been told, though, by the Israeli Defence force that it is still fighting Palestinian Militants in 7 to 8 places within on its own territory. Within on its own territory. Well, earlier on in the program, we spoke to the defence editor at the Evening Standard, robert fox, on why the one why hamas decided to attack now last really bad breach of or lack of israeli. Intelligence was israeli. Intelligence was exactly 50 years ago over this festival of yom kippur, where syrian and Egyptian Forces attacked. This time it was much closer to home. The palestinians, it now appears , had prepared this now appears, had prepared this attack brilliantly. They had attack brilliantly. They had given no intelligence leaks. This is the most important thing that this was coming. And there are various revelations, particularly by the Reuters Agency, that have done an in depth investigation that this was trained for and prepared for, for up to a year. And was trained for and prepared for, for up to a year. And the for, for up to a year. And the israelis hadnt a clue that it was going to happen. It was was going to happen. It was prepared for even to the extent that they built an artificial israeli settlement inside gaza to train their commandos in how to train their commandos in how to assault this. Yet none of this was seen and there was a full phase operation in which civilians were the targets. They were targets for killing and, of course, for kidnapping. And course, for kidnapping. And thats the big problem for israel now, can go on attacking. Israel now, can go on attacking , but it doesnt want to endanger the lives of this 100 or so or possibly even more hostages now dispersed throughout densely populated gaza, which youre looking at now. Now. Well, yara eid is a war journalist from gaza. She moved journalist from gaza. She moved to the uk at 16 for school, but her best friend, ibrahim, was killed on saturday in gaza whilst wearing a press belt reporting on the conflict. And she joins us this morning. Good morning , yara. Thank you very morning, yara. Thank you very much for joining morning, yara. Thank you very much forjoining us and im sorry for your loss. Condolences sorry for your loss. Condolences to you. I cant even imagine to lose a colleague in these sorts of circumstances and a friend truly tragic. Can you first of truly tragic. Can you first of all, tell us his story . Tell us what happened to him . What happened to him . Um , unfortunately, its not a um, unfortunately, its not a good morning. Its been a good morning. Its been a morning for the past two days. And actually for the past 70 years for palestinians , this is years for palestinians, this is not something new. The story of ibrahim actually was talking to him. Um, just the night before him. Um, just the night before the. The whole , um, thing the. The whole, um, thing happened. And and ibrahim, um , happened. And and ibrahim, um, is a war journalist. Happened. And and ibrahim, um, is a warjournalist. Hes is a war journalist. Hes a photographer. Hes a very talented photographer. And he was , um, always his dream was was, um, always his dream was just to become a word renowned photographer. Just to become a word renowned photographer. Um, during aggressions in gaza, me and ibrahim started reporting on the news because we wanted to show the whole world whats happening. Brahim went to the border , and. Brahim went to the border, and he was wearing a press vest and a helmet, taking all the necessary precautions for any journalist. He was accompanied by three of my other colleagues from ion media. Um a Film Production and Journalism Company in gaza. Um they were, uh, they were in a car that marked clearly as press and there were other press people there were other press people there. They were not in a clash there. They were not in a clash zone where fighters were engaging with, with Israeli Soldiers. No palestinian soldiers. No palestinian territory in the erez border. And they were trying to cover the news and trying to report doing their job, basically. Um, doing theirjob, basically. Um, but at 948, they bombed erez border very, very heavily without any warning. And ibrahim without any warning. And ibrahim was there and we couldnt hear anything about them. The only thing a few hours later we heard that he was killed and two of other of my other colleagues have been missing. We still dont know if theyre alive or not. And they were clearly marked as press as well. But, marked as press as well. But, you know, this is not the first time israel started ing journalists. You know, weve seen killing of Shireen Abu Aqleh just over a year ago. Um, aqleh just over a year ago. Um, you know, israel systematically targets journalists. Ibrahim wanted to become a journalist in the first place to carry and commemorate the message of yasser, another palestinian journalist that was dead in the great march of return protests at the gaza border. Um, you at the gaza border. Um, you know, only two weeks ago, another colleague of mine was shotin another colleague of mine was shot in the hand. Uh, especially like , you know, Israeli Soldiers like, you know, Israeli Soldiers are trained to literally make a media blackout in gaza, targeting , um, press people and targeting, um, press people and journalists as if theyre the biggest threat to israel. Um, biggest threat to israel. Um, and the only thing they have is the cameras. My colleague almost lost his hand. Um, and that lost his hand. Um, and that means that he will never be able to report again. You know, many journalists have been disabled, killed and tortured. Its you know, its always been happening. Well, we should say that israel would deny that they systematically target journalists, but obviously, you know, as members of the press ourselves, it is always tragic to see people who are trying to show exactly what is happening in events that they lose their lives doing their job. Can i ask you i mean, you know, ibrahims family or your friends in gaza, you were there until you were 16. You grew up there. Are they feeling anger there. Are they feeling anger towards hamas for the actions that started this escalation at the weekend . The weekend . Um, i think the right question to ask is, are they feeling and anger toward a colonial regime thats been targeting them , uh, for more targeting them, uh, for more than 70 years thats been killing them, torturing them, placing them in cages, placing them no more than 2 Million People are in an open air prison in gaza. You know, this attack in gaza. You know, this attack of hamas was not an unprovoked attack. It did not just come attack. It did not just come suddenly. You know, this has suddenly. You know, this has been systematically israel is running an apartheid state. Lets ignore whats happening in gaza for one second. What about the west bank . How can we justify whats happening in jerusalem . How can we justify killing of worshippers while theyre praying the aqsa theyre just praying in the aqsa mosque . Can justify the mosque . How can we justify the imprisonment of thousands of children . You know, how can we children . You know, how can we justify the killing of 10,000 palestinians since yara, i understand what youre saying, but you also cantjustify understand what youre saying, but you also cant justify the actions of the terrorist organisation hamas, who went in and went after people young people enjoying a Music Festival , minding their own business. And there are several fights continuing, eight different locations across israel on their own territory. You cant justify own territory. You cant justify that. Um, the thing is how its funny that were asked to justify this when this committed massacres and its the First Time Ever that theres a proportionate ratio between the casualties of the palestinians and the israelis, you know, and in 2014, in 2022 and 2021, you know , palestinians have been know, palestinians have been killed, hostages. Killed, hostages. You know about the hostages. And youre talking about the civilians. Most of the people civilians. Most of the people that hamas is targeting , a lot that hamas is targeting, a lot of them have been reported as soldiers. And let me just explain something. This is not israeli territory. This is israeli territory. This is israeli territory. This is israeli settlements that are considered illegal under international law. This is Palestinian Land that was confiscated and they kicked palestinians out of the land. Most of the palestine population in gaza, 70 of them are refugees who are literally breaking into those settlements. Those settlements were at some point their land. So this is not hamas, just invading israeli territory. This is palestinian territory. This is Palestinian Land that is illegally occupied. The hostages. Lets talk about the civilian hostages that are happening. You know that 5200 palestine, 5200 palestinians are in israeli prisons , 170 of them in israeli prisons, 170 of them are children under the age of 18 , and 1200 are in are like because of administrative detention, which means their trial without a trial, theyre imprisoned without a trial or a charge. Um, prisoners have been charge. Um, prisoners have been tortured and killed. And you know, over decades of this , um, know, over decades of this, um, hamas , if you ask me why , why is hamas, if you ask me why, why is hamas, if you ask me why, why is hamas taking so many hostages in 2011 . Um there was a prisoners exchange. Gilad gilad, um , exchange. Gilad gilad, um, shalit is an Israeli Soldiers that was captured by hamas and they exchanged him for over a thousand palestinian political prisoners. Um you know, hamas says that they have prisoners that are enough to free all of the palestinian prisoners in israel. So so, um, well, what no one will disagree on yara is that civilians are losing their lives on both sides of this conflict. Conflict. And it will take a huge effort to be able to bring this under control and to restore peace of some form and we can all hope for that. Listen, thank you very much for your perspectives and again, our condolences to you for the loss of your friend and a member of the press as well. Thank you. The press as well. Thank you. Charlie peters , our charlie peters, our investigations producer , with me investigations producer, with me investigations producer, with me in the studio. And the thing about this, charlie, is its taking place in the middle east. The repercussion is can be felt in the uk and there may be some reciprocal action in london. So the Security Forces here on a state of alert and a lot of jewish people are very worried. And thats right. Its been in the hours after the attack started on saturday, we heard from the mayor of london, sadiq khan, who express his concern that he would reassure members of public. Knew of the public. He said he knew that violence in the middle east could lead to crime could often lead to hate crime rising london. We also heard rising in london. We also heard this that the home this morning that the home secretary Suella Braverman met with jewish with members of the Jewish Community yesterday and spoke to them reaffirm that the them to reaffirm that the metropolitan Police Police metropolitan police and Police Across country will be across the country will be conducting reassurance conducting further reassurance patrols and monitoring the situation. But its not just situation. But its not just britain, of course. This is happening across europe. In france , their Prime Minister france, their Prime Minister yesterday said that a number of additional security measures have put in place in places have been put in place in places of worship and jewish of worship and in jewish communities. Is communities. And the same is happening also in germany. In berlin the weekend, we saw berlin over the weekend, we saw some activists some palestinian activists handing out sweets in the german capital after the attacks were reported. Obviously, we dont know if they were celebrating the attacks or just celebrating the attacks or just celebrating the palestinian cause , but it the palestinian cause, but it has really reaffirmed that this conflict isnt no longer is no longer just happening in west asia. Its happening at home in a way as well. Yeah. And the hostage situation in affects lots of countries wherever these people originate from, wherever they came from. From, wherever they came from. This is an interesting twist. Is it not . It is. And dozens. The idf say dozens of hostages is kept this morning. Details of the conflict overnight reaching really quite extraordinary proportions. Over a thousand proportions. Over a thousand strikes taking place in gaza in the last 24 hours. The Israeli Air Force saying they hit over 500 targets in gaza alone. All, of course , under, as youve of course, under, as youve referenced, the cloud of this awareness that hostages , both awareness that hostages, both israeli and foreign nationals are being held by hamas in gaza, which adds a layer of additional concern and might many have suggested analysts and commentators in the region risk strict israels response as they dont want to put those hostages in additional danger. So far, it appears that that is not the case. Yeah, of course its not. Not the case. And youre right, this is an added layer of complexity when this sort of when you get this sort of situation its not just situation that its not just army army , you know, army against army, you know, full against full. And the way that the hamas are embedded in the gaza strip makes them intertwined with the communities. Thats right. And it makes targeting those specific locations extremely hard. But locations extremely hard. But the idf this morning isnt just the idf this morning isntjust fighting in gaza. There are seven places in israel within its own borders that it is currently fighting hamas villages around the border region that we know were overrun very suddenly by hamas forces on saturday are Still Holding up pockets of resistance against Israeli Forces. In the last hour , i spoke to a survivor from the supernova festival on saturday who escaped where we are now heanng who escaped where we are now hearing from zaka that over 260 bodies were recovered yesterday. The most horrifying depiction of any situation. Britons who want to draw some comparison of this kind of event. The closest that kind of event. The closest that we have, i think, would probably be the bataclan massacre in paris in 2015. It is on that scale of devastation. Some of the acts really are appalling. And speaking to this, this man, his name eric, he fled for his name is eric, he fled for six hours across the desert to get back home, to escape from the threats. And this has happened after 12 hours of him partying with friends. Some of partying with friends. Some of the things he told me were really devastating. And it really quite devastating. And it seems as though there will be dozens of people, hundreds of people who that event, people who are at that event, who reeling with that who are now reeling with that experience so israel is in experience now. So israel is in a very precarious position of where needs care for where it needs to both care for people are both mutilated people who are both mutilated mentally physically , but mentally and physically, but also prepare itself to strike back against an insult on its on its borders. Shocking situation nation. Charlie peters, thank you for clarifying that for us. Appreciate it. Thank you. Now, the governments plan to deport Asylum Seekers to rwanda for processing is set to be challenged in the Supreme Court. Theyll argue against the ruling that the policy to deport migrants to is unlawful, migrants to rwanda is unlawful, as ministers are struggling to achieve rishi sunak to achieve rishi sunak pledge to stop. Well, the ceo of stop the boats. Well, the ceo of migration watch uk, dr. Mike jones, joins us now for more on this. Good morning to of course we dont have a decision until next month in all of this, but well hearing the arguments well be hearing the arguments that made in supreme that will be made in the Supreme Court. Obviously this court. You obviously oppose this , presumably . Well, yes , i agree , presumably . Well, yes, i agree with the high courtjudgements. With the high court judgements. I disagree with the judgement made by the court of appeal. It wasnt a unanimous decision. It wasnt a unanimous decision. It wasnt a unanimous decision. It was 2 to 1, i believe. It was very unusual. The arguments essentially revolve around asylum processing in rwanda. Asylum processing in rwanda. They believe the process isnt as rigorous as it is in the uk. So essentially they believe it violates article three of the European Convention on human rights. But my gut instinct is that the Supreme Court may rule in favour of the government. Its a much more disciplined institution legally under the leadership of lord reed than it was under lady hale , up to the was under lady hale, up to the Supreme Court to decide what happens next will be fascinating i whichever way things go, if it is declared legal by the Supreme Court, we know that the home secretary has said that it is her dream to see those flights taking off and pictured on the front of the telegraph. And yet weve also heard from sir keir starmer if he gets sir keir starmer that if he gets into office, he will scrap the rwanda plan or even if it is deemed to be legal. Its interesting because Public Opinion is actually on the side of these rwanda deportation flights. I of these rwanda deportation flights. I mean , im just flights. I mean, im just cunous flights. I mean, im just curious to get your take on all of that decision. Of that decision. Yeah, the Supreme Court decision has the potential to shape the contours of the next general election if the court rules in favour of the government and declares rwanda illegal and rwanda bears fruit as a policy. You know, it acts as a policy. You know, it acts as a policy. You know, it acts as a deterrent, then in the next general election could become a referendum on a legal migration. And i think the labour party have made a rod for their own back on this because as theyve said, that theyll scrap the policy regardless of its of its success. Im interested though, from your point of view, could there be a sort of unintended consequence if this is deemed illegal by the Supreme Court . Would migration watch be concerned by what measures the government then decide to pursue . Because we know that theyve flirting with theyve been flirting with leaving echr , which upsets leaving the echr, which upsets a lot of people all you know, which is probably going to be pursued more vigorously if this is not successful as a policy. Is not successful as a policy. Yes. I mean, im all for leaving the European Court of human rights, and its not just human rights, and its notjust the opinion of migration. Watch lord sumption and professor Richard Ekins of Oxford University have made this argument in public. The echr is an undemocratic institution. An undemocratic institution. Its opaque, it appoints its judges from authoritarian regime with poor legal traditions , and with poor legal traditions, and its reinterpreted the European Convention on human rights. I mean , the convention is now mean, the convention is now a dynamic document and this is due to the rulings of the echr. Theyve created this whole body of immigration and asylum law, which is completely inconsistent with the principles of the original document. So i think, you know, a policy of leaving the court would resonate with the court would resonate with the british public. Interesting. Okay. Dr. Mike interesting. Okay. Dr. Mike jones from migration watch, thanks very much indeed. Thanks very much indeed. Well , what can we expect well, what can we expect today from the Labour Party Conference . Lets go to tom hannood , who hell give you hannood, who hell give you a bit of analysis on that. Whos got centre stage today . Tom well, centre stage at midday is none other than the shadow chancellor, Rachel Reeves. Chancellor, Rachel Reeves. Yesterday it was the turn of Angela Rayner, the deputy leader. Today its Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor , reeves, the shadow chancellor, and tomorrow its Keir Starmers big speech, the big three. If you like, in labour party at you like, in the labour party at the top of the labour Party Setting each out their stalls. But the watchword today might well be energy , infrastructure well be energy, infrastructure and other Critical National infrastructure. The plan from Rachel Reeves, we hear, is to make it much, much easier to build that sort of infrastructure in the United Kingdom, wiping away some of the red tape, particularly some of the environmental red tape that gets in the way of Business Building things. Now that might upset some Community Groups , upset some Community Groups, some local communities, but it will delight business. And in some ways it sounds pretty free market. This morning, the shadow chancellor is being compared to liz truss in some of her suppues liz truss in some of her supplies side reform agenda as the economists might call it. But perhaps one word that isnt being discussed today may loom large over this conference. And the word that studiously is being avoided by all of these senior labour politicians so far at this conference is of course, brexit. I was speaking to some delegates on the floor yesterday about what they viewed the position of the labour party to be when it comes to the european union. Many members here, many union. Many members here, many members on the floor want this party to rejoin, to commit to rejoining the european union. But of course the party policy is to not rejoin , just to come is to not rejoin, just to come up with some sort of different deal with the european union, but i think this is an issue conspicuous today by its absence as. As. Tom, thank you very much indeed. I tom, thank you very much indeed. I just wanted to get a second question into you about our top story this morning. Are our top story this morning. Are israel and gaza and the situation there. Its such a sensitive issue for the labour party. Rachel reeves this morning saying that she absolutely condemns they could have done without this, tom, couldnt they . Yeah, applauding hamas. Hamas. Certainly the scandal around Jeremy Corbyn is reverberating through this conference. And i think perhaps this is behind some of the stronger line that this current labour leadership has taken. Just this morning, Rachel Reeves has said that israel has a right to go into gaza to retrieve its hostages , gaza to retrieve its hostages, and thats a position that i dont think any iteration of the previous couple of labour leaderships would have taken. I leaderships would have taken. I think were seeing very clearly this current labour leadership trying to sound more brazen about its support for israel, saying israel has a right to defend itself and just this morning saying israel has a right to go into gaza as well. Thats a significant moment and a big, big change. But of course this party has a long shadow of difficulty when it comes to its relationship with the Jewish Community. And thats been highlighted very , very clearly, highlighted very, very clearly, very starkly by the words of Jeremy Corbyn yesterday. Thank you, tom. Thank you very, very much indeed. Well take a breather there because were going to be talking about marathon running and the world record for man has been broken in chicago. Okay that and all the other sports stories of paul coyte. Time to go through the sports news. Mr coyote with us here today. And hey, congrats on your boys top of the league. Boys top of the league. You look at that face. Oh, i could just squeeze your cheeks. Im so happy. It is. It doesnt happen very it is. It doesnt happen very often. I think even nonnich have often. I think even nonnich have been top of the league in the last 50 years. More than spurs. Yeah, right. So its something im going to enjoy in the meantime. Arsenal, i must say , meantime. Arsenal, i must say, though, are also there as well. But its not even on goal difference. Theyre on the same points. Theyve won the same amount of games, drawn the same and also unbeaten same amount of points, same goal difference. But spurs have scored one more goal okay, well done, spurs. Now, the spurs are sitting the reason spurs are sitting pretty is that that arsenal beat city yesterday. Thats right because city would have done draw would have been fine but arsenal scored a late goal. It wasnt a great game. I dont know if you saw it. It wasnt the most exciting of games but thats two losses. On the bounce for manchester city. Drew at newcastle city. West ham drew at newcastle drew newcastle. Thats drew with newcastle. So thats probably point for west probably a better point for west ham especially what ham because especially what newcastle did to Paris Saint Germain in the week. So david is very happy with david moyes is very happy with that. Brighton always seem to get a good result against liverpool, that was 2 2 and liverpool, so that was 2 2 and odd wolves and aston villa was 1 1 rugby world cup. We now know who the quarterfinalists are. Who the quarterfinalists are. England are there, although no, not at all convincing , although not at all convincing, although they managed to get through. Not at all convincing. So england that was that was against samoa at the weekend. So england are at the weekend. So england are now going to play fiji who actually lost to portugal yesterday. But because they got yesterday. But because they got a bonus point for losing , they a bonus point for losing, they actually then push australia and eddie jones out. So this is a huge thing for australia not to qualify for the quarterfinals. Qualify for the quarterfinals. France are going to be south africa. Then weve got ireland against new zealand. So thats going to be a hell of a game and wales and argentina, which is going a bit of argy bargy, going to be a bit of argy bargy, big for their household, isnt it, one . Big for their household, isnt it, oh one . Big for their household, isnt it, oh yeah, thats a big one in oh yeah, thats a big one in our household. Kelvin kiptum, the kenyan, yes, took record with yes, he, he took a record with the world marathon record. Yeah. Yeah world marathon record. Two hours, zero minutes, 35 seconds. So close to breaking that two hours. Yeah. Now hes an amazing runner, and its el kipchoge is the one that ran the fastest marathon a few years ago. Now theres. Theres ago. Now theres. Theres kelvin. Now the thing is, though, ive often mentioned this and were even calling it foot doping because again , in foot doping because again, in super shoes seems to be whats going on here. Now, these carbon, this these carbon rods inside these shoes, i think weve got a picture of the shoes which are also going to become available that seem to make everybody run much, much faster. Now, look at those. Now, look at those. Now, look at those. Look, this is like an air pocket, like nike airs, but with a carbon rod in it. Yeah, theyre called vaporflys. Vaporfly lie three. So the carbon rod, i mean, look at them. Theyre like high heels. I mean. I mean, can you imagine running in those . But for some reason with everything in there, you walk, youre youre flying. Difference when you so the difference when you wear a nike air or a shoe with some of cushion some sort of air cushion compared just normal compared to just a normal trainer, it does make running easier. Yeah. So no wonder hes getting record. Thats bouncing. Yeah thats it. Bouncing. Yeah thats it. Bouncing. Yeah and shoe did you call and shoe doping did you call it. I it could well it. I it could well be i think it could well be because. Adidas theyve because. Because adidas theyve theyve one of nike have theyve got one of our nike have got one so theyre got another one so theyre fighting against other and fighting against each other and if these super if you dont have these super shoes to shoes youre never going to stand hope. Stand a hope. Now i was looking back in the history a little research. History books a little research. Yes. With world marathon yes. So with the world marathon record years ago, how record from 100 years ago, how much time difference do you think now and think there is between now and then in the marathon . In the marathon, 30 minutes . I very good. Yeah. I looked at you. I heard you coming out with that and i thought it in the 80s 40 years ago. It was eight minutes. So you think 30 . Wow. I dont know. You said 100 years ago, didnt you . 100 years ago, i think 30, 30 minutes. 35. Whoa wow. Wow. Very good harness , coleman very good harness, coleman you remember him . Oh, yeah. The famous finish runner broke the world record in 1920. Stood for three years. Two hours and 35. Yeah, but you can guarantee is basically running barefoot, you know the shoes is it i dont think our super shoes. Super shoes in those days are won with a heel. Yeah and the thing is and with and with kelvin, he ran this 22nd mile. I mean this is after running 21 miles. He did one mile in four minutes and 18 seconds. Wow. I mean, its unbelie. This guys a new world record. And if i get those shoes, im gonna have a go at it. Yeah, same here. Yeah, same here. Whose birthday is it today . Do you have a quick look . Yeah. Okay. Very famous athlete. Very famous athlete. See you can recognise him. See if you can recognise him. World record holder. Many times in by the way, this is in the 1500. By the way, this is not thats him. There he not him. Thats him. There he is. Is it . Is. Who is it . Looks like man from the looks like the man from the 118 adverts. Ovett it is steve ovett. Oh, very in the 100m, oh, very gold in the 100m, 1980. Old today . Do you think . Oh , 1988. Oh, 1988. Oh, 1988. 1981, 86, 88, 68, 66, 60. Youre unbelievable today. 66, 68, 60. I honestly did not know. I honestly did not know. I honestly did not know. Well done. Well done. Its unbelievable. Its unbelievable. Guys. Im going to enter you into an athletics quiz. Just tell her. Just tell her. Answer her. Answer her. I will. Thats good. I will. Thats good. Thank you. Thank you. Paul. Thank you thank you, paul. Thank you very much. Still come, the bbc have still to come, the bbc have come under fire for not calling hamas terrorists. All that and more in the headune all that and more in the headline makers. N ext next and joining us to go through todays headlines is the esteemed actor Christopher Biggins and the even more esteemed writer and commentator. Why are we why are we laughing . Youre acting that his thespian skills there is just so as you as you went into the your opening pageant, we said something and it was just involve me in it. No, no, no. No, no, no. Anyway, sorry, eamonn. Carry anyway, sorry, eamonn. Carry on. Your brilliant, esteemed actor, Christopher Biggins, and even esteemed and even more esteemed writer and commentator holdsworth commentator candace holdsworth and candace. And candace. Now, heres a very interesting thing, right . So were in this whole israeli hamas situation , whats going on hamas situation, whats going on in gaza. But but the mail are reporting and i think other people are reporting as well. Yeah, telegraph, front page, the telegraph and that a lot of people find it disgraceful that hamas has been classified as a terrorist organisation. But it appears that bbc will not refer to them as terrorists. Rightly or wrongly. Yeah. So this is a really interesting story because as we know, hamas is a proscribed organisation. If you declare support for it, i mean you could face about 14 years in prison. So people are saying why is the bbc reluctant to label them as such or to call them as such when this is clearly what they are and what theyve done is a terrorist act . A terrorist act . I dont think you could could describe it in any other way. On the side of it, people the other side of it, people would say that thats not the position bbc wants take. Position the bbc wants to take. They believe thats the governments thats governments position. Thats how to me how its been described to me anyway. They are reluctant. Difficulty is. Yeah. And i understand this is probably one of editorial of those classic editorial charter the charter type nightmares for the bbc, but their issue is not just the government that have declared that. I mean, as you say, written in law. Yes it say, its written in law. Yes it carries sentence. So carries a prison sentence. So the bbc is not accepting the legitimacy of the law that that what are they called . What are they called . Do we have an idea of what they are calling hamas . They are calling hamas . I think theyll just refer to them as militant militant militants. Militants , militants. Yeah. Yeah. You know, history will tell you that in Northern Ireland were sinn fein were the political wing of the ira, the ira were proscribed organisation and to discredit sinn fein , and to discredit sinn fein, unionist politicians used to constantly refer to the sinn fein or the ira as sinn fein ira. They give them that double barrelled name and that obviously did sinn fein a lot of harm in terms of credibility, but it was an interesting tactic. But if, if any of us called hamas a terrorist organisation , hamas a terrorist organisation, youd be up for it. Well , i mean, youd be up for it. Well, i mean, could youd be up for it. Well , i mean, could they do well, i mean, could they do anything about it . No, anything about it . N0, is the answer on bbc programmes . I dont think so. No. I mean, its a statement, isnt it . Its a true statement. Yeah. Its just, you know, theyre to going have to have another look at their style guide. I think its , you not fit think its, you know, not fit for purpose 2023 can for purpose in 2023 begins. Can we talk about ulez and a tank has driven through london to avoid it. Well this is this is a viral video. Yeah theyve theyve taken my idea because id love to take a tank through london and get all the cyclists who go wrong and go through traffic lights and they have their own rules. You see what i what i object about this tank for is that this really rips up the tarmac. If youve ever followed a tank or anything with those sort of caterpillar tracks, they that is true. From believable. From believable. And this has been allowed to drive around ulez aside the damage it will be doing to the tarmac surfaces is incredible. But presumably its definitely not low emissions when youve got a tank. No, no, i couldnt imagine. So i suppose theyre so frustrated. They want to do frustrated. They want to do something, you know, and look at the publicity its getting. Its trafalgar square, isnt it . Yeah. Yeah. In this day and age , with but in this day and age, with so alarming have theyve so many alarming have theyve got a tank from. So many got a tank from. Well so many conflicts are happening all over the you know, its to see i mean you know, its to see this pop up in london it could be an invasion of some sort. Know , where should go . You know, where should we go . You know, where should we go . Should we talk about another viral candace, this viral video now, candace, this one fury of women one is about the fury of women in tech at a special conference because overrun because its overrun with men claiming be non binary and claiming to be non binary and they cut in front of female attendees to network with employees. Yes. So this employees. Yes. So this is a video thats been doing the rounds. Its a lot of outrage its caused a lot of outrage because is a very this is a because this is a very this is a tech event thats aimed specifically at women. And its a important its a really important one. Its a lot of Networking Opportunities a really important one. Its a lot of nebe rking opportunities a really important one. Its a lot of nebe rkinglucrativenities a really important one. Its a lot of nebe rkinglucrative and s and can be very lucrative and there are a lot of men there and women were confused as to why men were there, because this is generally a women only event. And it was reported that some of them identified as them had identified as non binary in. Dont non binary to get in. I dont know i dont know if thats true. I dont know if thats true. I dont know thats been definitively know if thats been definitively established, suppose know if thats been definitively establisined, suppose know if thats been definitively establisin theyre suppose know if thats been definitively establisin theyre ianpose know if thats been definitively establisin theyre in for. Wse know if thats been definitively establisin theyre in for. Yes, theyre in theyre in for. Yes, for what we have to find out why. I mean this is a women why. I mean if this is a women only event, this is the only event, why this is the grace hopper celebration of women computing in orlando , women in computing in orlando, florida, which i assume is important because probably tech is probably dominated by geeky men. Yes , i would assume. Yes, i would assume. Yes, i would assume. Yes, i would assume. Yes, very much so. Very much yes, very much so. Very much so. I think even with things like computer science, i mean, many girls dont take it beyond a certain level. So it is really a certain level. So it is really important to let women know that actually for you well. Actually its for you as well. Youre welcome in these industries. I know what industries. So i dont know what went at this it went wrong at this event. It could all those men did could be that all those men did identify as non binary or it could be Something Else as well. I dont want to say just i mean, i dont want to say just based speculation. Yeah, but based on speculation. Yeah, but if to identify as if you did want to identify as non binary, you just have say it. Then you dont have to have any certificate say that any certificate to say that mentally or physically that youre. Well, exactly. You just say, non binary say, i feel non binary. Yes. Yes. You wear a bit of i look non binary you wear a bit of i look noryou1ary you wear a bit of i look noryou 1arj actually fairly though you do actually fairly though i think you probably helped if you wore a bit of lipstick, actually. Yes yes. Yes. Because would be quite binary. Oh, i see. Yes, yes. Im sorry. Yes, youre right. Androgynous looking, maybe. Androgynous looking, maybe. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Yeah yeah. Yes. Yeah yeah. Shall we go to the okay. Shall we go to the awful weather in scotland . And awful weather in scotland . And you guys were here when we were speaking rao earlier . Speaking to nathan rao earlier . Yes be airlifted to yes had to be airlifted to safety. This is the times, safety. This is in the times, christopher. Yeah i know. I mean, it. And were i mean, it. And you were mentioning eamonn about railway. Yeah stations which are like lakes and people just standing there looking at them. I mean, its been quite horrific, the rain i mean, ten people had to be airlifted from their cars and a very good thing, what you said earlier. What do you do if youre in youre in a car. I mean, and you know, it suddenly everything around you turns into a lake or a river or what have you running. Mean, it must be you running. I mean, it must be terrifying. Terrifying. Of the things well well, one of the things well , for to give advice, but , not for me to give advice, but one of the things that i would think its a terrible dilemma. Do you lower your windows . Do you lower your windows . Because if youre concerned armed with water, you wont be able to open your windows or open the door. So should you do that in advance . I saw a woman being rescued from a car and she got out her window by by doing this. This. Well, thats what you do if you go into like a lake. Dont you . Or into the sea. Youre supposed to do that. Yes. Yeah i cant think it would get that high. I suppose it could get that high in a road. Oh gosh, it has. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It happens all the time of the first stories i did as a reporter in the west country was after a landslide and someone was a tunnel and was coming through a tunnel and the landslide come down over the landslide had come down over the landslide had come down over the theyd been the exit and theyd just been for dinner. Couple in their this couple in their valentines day, and they got to the and they basically the edge and they basically suffocated in the mud. Oh, no. Of the awful, awful. And these are this is a story here in the times is that ten people had to be airlifted to safety after their cars became stranded in scotland. Stranded in scotland. And because of landslip that follow the flooding there. With that and so, candice, when i go to the telegraph, sir keir starmer has declared that he would scrap the Rwanda Border plan even if it succeeded , even plan even if it succeeded, even if it succeeded in getting the small boat numbers down. Yeah. So this is a story in the telegraph and sir keir starmer is now come out and said very openly, im going to scrap the rwanda plan. I mean, were still rwanda plan. I mean, were still awaiting the outcome, awaiting the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling this. The ruling on this. If the government to government can send people to rwanda. Before whenever the rwanda. But before whenever the election going be called , election is going to be called, hes putting clear blue water between and between himself and the conservatives think conservatives on this. I think the only is, is that the only issue is, is that people have said to him, well, whats your solution . And he said to tackle the said hes going to tackle the migrant but National Migrant gangs. But the National Crime been very crime agency has been very critical of that approach because that the because they say that the way that trafficking work that the trafficking gangs work is fragmented. Its is theyre very fragmented. Its difficult focus on so difficult to focus on them. So you need legal you actually do need legal incentives and disincentives so thatis incentives and disincentives so that is something they may have to think about as well. And the public broadly and the public seem broadly in favour of these flights, whether, you know, especially if theyre found legal. Uh, theyre found to be legal. Uh, its brave position to take when you maybe , you know, hes you but maybe, you know, hes saying to people, dont be complacent. Their complacent. They had their by election he complacent. They had their by feels on he complacent. They had their by feels so he complacent. They had their by feels so comfortable he complacent. They had their by feels so comfortable in he complacent. They had their by feels so comfortable in his1e just feels so comfortable in his win an ideological win and its just an ideological thing him that hes opposed. Thing for him that hes opposed. Well, youre right, because it could just factors sort of could just be factors sort of beyond control. Beyond his control. Mean, know, snp is i mean, you know, the snp is sort losing support in sort of losing support in scotland instance. Yeah, sort of losing support in scotleright instance. Yeah, sort of losing support in scotle right. Instance. Yeah, yeah, right. In court this the story in the express and the singer aled jones has seen the teenager who threatened and robbed him locked up. He was there for the up. He was there for the sentencing. How bad was this sentencing. How bad was this attack , christopher . Attack, christopher . Well, he was walking along and is he walking in the air . Walking in the air, absolutely. And he was wearing a watch worth 17,500 pounds. Crikey. And the man took the watch and said, walk ahead and dont look back othennise, because he had a machete. Othennise, ill cut your head off. Oh, my goodness. So and this is happening time and time again now. I mean , ive and time again now. I mean, ive heard stories of people in cars in mayfair and theyve actually smashed the window of the car moving along, driving along and then taken the watch off the passengers in the back. Well, they know what theyre looking for. I mean, i wouldnt know. I wouldnt know if it was a fake, if it was real, how much it would be worth a charge, though, isuppose would be worth a charge, though, i suppose they if they want i suppose if they if they want these things know, we these things and, you know, we talk about this and yet at the front story of the mirror today is young called jack is about a young lad called jack rigby was the soldier, lee rigby who was the soldier, lee rigby who was the soldier, lee rigby son, and he gets a pride rigby s son, and he gets a pride of award, which youll of britain award, which youll be able to see this week. But the thing is, we talk about it when a threats made, im going to your head off. In this to cut your head off. In this case, actually happened. Yeah case, it actually happened. Yeah what is and also, you know, what is terrifying is that they dont get a sentence. They just get told off and given a sort of warning thing. And i think there should be there should be stricter rules on this. I think people this guy says he was sent to jail for i dont think he was was he says he was locked up after threatened to but but i dont know. Well anyway i mean i dont think good enough for think its good good enough for what are dishing as sentence. What i didnt know, eamonn, is how many tank experts we have watching this morning. So thank you. Loads of you emailing in the last few minutes. Pretty the last few minutes. Pretty much saying the road much all saying the same road dnven much all saying the same road driven tanks have rubber pads fitted to their tracks to prevent road damage. And these weve got lots of veterans from from all this ones from from all over. This ones from yorkshire other ones yorkshire and other ones armoured in london armoured vehicle in london and its actually tank as well its not actually a tank as well as another one. Its a self propelled gun and they do not tarmac. So thank you not rip up tarmac. So thank you for correcting us on that. And its interesting. Oh, i still stand by what im saying, especially on a hot day. Can see the rubber you can see the rubber apparently on tires. Apparently on the tires. So, i used to see it. So, yeah, i used to see it. I used to see it in Northern Ireland quite a lot when there was caterpillar tracks on vehicles your road was vehicles and how your road was was up it. So just was ripped up with it. So just speaking experience speaking from experience on that. Not actually a that. So thats not actually a tank, thats a self propelled gun. Apparently. Gun. Yeah, apparently. Okay. Okay. Im no expert. Im no expert. You learn begins and candice, thank you so much for reviewing our papers and our viral videos and all the things making headunes and all the things making headlines today. Well, still to come, were going to have more for you on the israel palestine conflict straight after this. Yeah hello there. Very good morning to you. The very good morning to you. The time quickly approaching 9 00 on this monday, the 9th of october. Thank you for being tuned in to breakfast and gb news with Eamonn Holmes and isabel webster. Well, one story has truly dominated the program this morning. This is, as israel says morning. This is, as israel says. Morning. This is, as israel says , its at war with hamas and continues its bombardment of the gaza strip. Hamas remains gaza strip. Hamas remains committed to its unprecedented assault on israeli communities, which began 48 hours ago, firing thousands more rockets into israeli communities. There are reports that armed palestinians remain inside israel. The death remain inside israel. The death toll on both sides is rising , toll on both sides is rising, with over a thousand israelis and palestinians killed. There are fears that the conflict could spread right across the region. The usa is across the region. The usa is sending warships from its mediterranean fleet to support israel off the coast of gaza in other news this morning, sir keir starmer is pitching an alternative to a conservative government at Labour Party Conference. The shadow chancellor is preparing for her keynote speech today and our Political Correspondent Catherine Forster is there taking the temperature for. Us for. Us yes, Rachel Reeves will be trying to persuade voters to trust labour on the economy. Expect lots of talk of growth, of planning reform and of labour wanting to get britain building i thank you, catherine. Also this morning, the biggest test of all for the governments plan to send Illegal Migrants to rwanda. A hearing will get rwanda. A hearing will get undennay today at the Supreme Court. Hearing all the instructions to decide once and all if the policy is legal. Well have all the details on that. And we thought we were the only people who were getting funny instructions. Well, live broadcasts are always fun. Jonathan voltri will have your forecast today. So stay tuned for that as well. Stay tuned for that as well. A calm start to the week for many of us, but there is rain on the we head later on. So the way as we head later on. So join me later to find out when you can expect to see it. Let us know what you think about certain things. Theres various reasons why we cant really reflect what youre thinking on the gaza situation. But there are other stories in the news and youre very welcome to express your views, including tanks. Gbviews gbnews. Com in london. Or you can tweet us at. Or you can tweet us at. Gb news. Look, this whole business in the gaza strip over the weekend and into israel very, very disturbing. Shocking actually. Disturbing. Shocking actually. Its the largest escalation in many years. Israel is declared war in response to an air and land assault by hamas into southern israel. Southern israel. Well, israel is continuing to retaliate with a heavy bombardment of gaza, but hamas has continued to fire more rockets overnight as well. Rockets overnight as well. And meanwhile, many israeli families are searching for loved ones fearing kidnapped by armed palestinians who broke the security cordon and entered israeli communities. And they did it very, very inventively. Some on gyrocopters. That has to be said. Pip tomson with this. Be said. Pip tomson with this. Its one of the longest running conflicts in the world. But the scale of whats been happening is unprecedented. And happening is unprecedented. And it was a religious holiday. Israeli families were relaxing or praying. No one saw this coming , not or praying. No one saw this coming, not even, it or praying. No one saw this coming , not even, it seems, coming, not even, it seems, israels sophisticated Intelligence Service is as videos and photos of dead israelis has emerged on social media, so too did images of armed men from hamas taking soldiers and civilians into captivity in gaza. Israel is at captivity in gaza. Israel is at war. The response from its Prime Minister what happened today has never been seen in israel. And i will make sure that it does not happen again. The entire government is behind this decision. The idf will immediately use all its strength to destroy hamass capabilities. We will destroy them and we will take mighty vengeance for this black day that they have forced on the state of israel and its citizens within hours, airstrikes on gaza killing many palestinians. Palestinians. This footage released by the Israeli Air Force claims to show hamas targets being destroyed. Hamas targets being destroyed. And a mosque blocks of flats reduced to rubble in seconds. We were under the safety of god inside this mosque. We prayed at it yesterday. Suddenly prayed at it yesterday. Suddenly the mosque was struck without any initial warning and without telling any of the neighbours. They made elderly people, children and women scared. Copies of the quran were shattered on the ground. The shattered on the ground. The mosque is completely destroyed. Why. Why. Tensions between israelis and palestinians have been rising since the start of the year. But since the start of the year. Now it is impossible to ignore Barack Obamas American Administration was the last to try and help create a separate palestinian state under attack. Orchester erected by a terrorist organisation , hamas. Terrorist organisation, hamas. In this moment of tragedy, i want to say to them and to the world and to terrorists everywhere , that the united everywhere, that the United States stands with israel. I want to express my absolute solidarity the people of solidarity for the people of israel. Now is not a time for equivocation, and im unequivocal. Unequivocal. There is a peace plan to end this century long conflict between palestinians and israelis for control of land. Israelis for control of land. The violence of the last few daysis the violence of the last few days is a deadly reminder of what happens when a push for peace is shelved. For too long, pip tomson gb news and Israeli Police have also released a video they say shows the release of hostages held by hamas fighters after a gun battle in southern israel. Yeah , and the video shows the yeah, and the video shows the soldiers there out in parts of israel trying to facilitate the transfer of individuals there. And we havent been able to independently verify that video i and weve been told by the Israeli Defence force that it is still fighting palestinians in 7 to 8 places as of on its own territory. Territory. Well, earlier on in the program we spoke to the defence editor at the Evening Standard, robert fox, and why hamas decided to attack now. Decided to attack now. I asked really bad breach of or lack of Israeli Intelligence was exactly 50 years ago over this festival of yom kippur, where syrian and Egyptian Forces attacked. This time it was much closer to home. The palestinians, it now appears , palestinians, it now appears, had prepared this attack. Brilliant early. They had given no intelligence leaks. This is no intelligence leaks. This is the most important thing that this was coming at. And there are various revelations , are various revelations, particularly by the Reuters Agency , that have done an agency, that have done an in depth investigation that this was trained for and prepared for, for up to a year. Yet none of this was seen. And there was a full phase operation in which civilians were the targets. They were targets for killing and, of course, for kidnapping. And thats the big problem for israel. Now can go on attacking. But it doesnt want to endanger the lives of this 100 or so or possibly even more hostages now dispersed throughout densely populated gaza , which youre populated gaza, which youre looking at now. Looking at now. Well , the us and the uk have well, the us and the uk have offered their support to israel to bring the conflict under control. And the United Nations has also had a closed door meeting to discuss the escalation appealed for escalation and has appealed for all countries to try and find a peaceful solution quickly. Well lets hear what robert wood, the uns deputy Us Ambassador to the un, has had to say. Look, the situation is still fluid and very dangerous. Yes, fluid and very dangerous. Yes, and weve got to were working hard, as i know other countries in the region are, to try to prevent this conflict from spreading. The president , biden said. I think very clearly today , say we will support israel. We , say we will support israel. We will help them in carrying out their inalienable right to their self defence. But its important that the Global Community condemn strongly condemn this unprovoked invasion and the terrorist attacks and activities that have taken place and are taking place and while the Israeli Military has said that it has struck hundreds of hamas targets in gaza overnight know a refugee camp there which has been targeted by israeli missiles as these areas have the same infrastructure as any time after decades of palestinians living there. Living there. And lots of the images disturbing and distressing , a disturbing and distressing, a bombed out buildings and also people being lifted from the debris. Palestinian hospitals are reporting theyre ovennhelmed with civilian casualties. And we understand many of them children. We can also report on clashes between Israeli Forces and palestinians on the west bank and images here of mourners attending funeral processions yesterday for three palestinians killed by the israeli army across there. The latest figures on those killed is now 493 palestinians and over 2000 wounded, according to the Palestinian Health ministry. Three. Well, yusef , hamas works for well, yusef, hamas works for the nonnegian Refugee Council and is in gaza this morning. Thank you for joining and is in gaza this morning. Thank you forjoining us. Thank you for joining us. Listen, very difficult situation where you are. First of all, where you are. First of all, just give us a sense of how tense things are in the vicinity of gaza that that you are in. Thanks for hosting us. And as usual, this round of conflict that never stopping this is not new for people who live in gaza. And this is so live in gaza. And this is so unfortunate. But the situation is unbearable. We have 100, almost 100,000 of people who fled their houses seeking shelters in schools without any kind of support, even as a humanitarian actors, we dont have the ability to work in the field because of the security situation, as everyone knows in gaza, the continuous bombardment that doesnt allow us as a humanitarian to do our role. The humanitarian to do our role. The situation in gaza with with lack of electricity also , we have now of electricity also, we have now up to four hours per day of electricity. And before even electricity. And before even this escalation, 80 of the population in gaza was relying on humanitarian aid. On humanitarian aid. So today. So today. So today. Sorry. Yeah, sorry about that safe. Are you is there somewhere you can go when are you okay . There . There . There . I yeah, im okay now. But i dont think we can consider any place safe in gaza. So im. Lets see. Im fine. Hamdullah thank you. Yusuf stay safe and run when you feel the need to and we were talking about the apparent bombing. There was of a refugee camp. Were using the description in refugee camp. Yet what we are seeing is not what we would understand as a refugee camp. It conjures up images of tents for instance. But weve got permanent buildings. This just looks like part of any town i so these refugee camps , so these refugee camps, people had there have been built more than 70 years ago. So and most of gazas are extended families. So they have expanded the camps and it became a small neighbourhood or kind of a small city. So we dont have this kind of usually this this kind of camps that usually the world is any see, which we see tents and this kind of things. This is not the situation in gaza because the situation in gaza because the camps are a camps here since almost a decade. And this is and this is a sign for. The because no one had a solution for these refugees. These scams became refugees. These scams became settlements. It became small settlements. It became small cities and contain hundreds of thousands of citizens. Its not thousands of citizens. Its not small camps. It became almost a small camps. It became almost a small cities. Small cities. Were looking at live pictures whilst were talking to you of smoke billowing out of parts of gaza. Such a densely populated strip of land. I think its Something Like six miles wide, 26 miles long. Just paint a picture for us. For people whove never been to gaza , not whove never been to gaza, not only is it incredibly densely populated , but there are issues populated, but there are issues. If people want to get out, theres no airport of its own, as i understand it, no airstrip. And theres these two exits by land, both of which are closed the borders. And so when Benjamin Netanyahu saying, listen, civilians , you know, listen, civilians, you know, were going to retaliate for the actions of hamas, but you need to get out of there, how easy is that to do . That to do . So gaza is under siege for more than 17 years. And this is a responsibility for the International Community to find a longer Term Solutions. Usually a longer Term Solutions. Usually when we have this round of conflicts , we usually have a conflicts, we usually have a fragile ceasefire that everyone knows and even people who moderate the ceasefires understand fragile. Understand that its fragile. This will last weeks, this will last for weeks, months, but one is looking months, but no one is looking for a long Term Solution to ensure the dignity and the Living Conditions for people in gaza. Gaza is not a piece of land. More than land. Contain more than 2,300,000 citizens lives in this narrow piece of land with all these implications, with the siege, one of the highest rates of unemployment , 67, is of unemployment, 67, is Unemployment Rate between youth. There is lack of opportunities, lack of electricity , lack of lack of electricity, lack of freedom of movement. We are freedom of movement. We are lacking everything in gaza. Add to that all of this round of conflict. So i to that all of this round of conflict. So i think the International Community have to invest more looking for a longer Term Solution for people who lives in gaza. It started with lifting the blockade. Lifting the blockade. And can i just ask you, yousef, what youve seen in terms of human tragedy in the last 48 hours . I mean , you last 48 hours . I mean, you yourself, with your own eyes, have you seen bloodshed . Have you seen women and children caught up in all of this . Caught up in all of this . So you know, we are seeing these scenes tragic scenes since years. Personally, i had to flee my house two days ago. So since this started , people who have this started, people who have the who have the chance or they found people who host them, they are lucky. Other people had to go to nonnay schools, despite all that bloodshed and all of that killing and the bombardment all during the night. I even personally yesterday, i didnt imagine that i will see the daylight from last night, from the massive bombardment that was taking place gaza. Taking place in gaza. Personally, i didnt believe that i will wake up to do this interview, as simple as that. The bombardment is continuing and narrow piece of land , and this narrow piece of land, the toll, more than 500 the death toll, more than 500 palestinians were killed in gaza , more than 2000 injuries. And the number is increasing quickly. We have in the daylight, honestly , with this daylight, honestly, with this bombardment, its a bit calm as we can speak now. Its a bit calm. There is bombardment. But when the darkness arrived , trust when the darkness arrived, trust me, we are traumatised , we have me, we are traumatised, we have a trauma and we need years to recover from what we are seeing. We are afraid from the night of no electricity. All of this bombardment above our heads and no one has ensuring that he was going to stay alive for the next second. This is how the situation in gaza. Well, you you stay safe. Were worried about your safety there. And we can see from the live pictures were were beaming in all around us that it is an area under attack. And well leave it under attack. And well leave it there. And thank you very much indeed for time this indeed for your time this morning. Thank you. Yeah. Morning. Thank you. Yeah. And is an advocacy and yusuf is an advocacy officer for the nonnegian refugee thank you very Refugee Council. Thank you very much. Much. Lets go to the Labour Party Conference now, and thats in liverpool and cautiously confident. Keir starmer has been confident. Keir starmer has been speaking. He says his party are speaking. He says his party are bang on schedule to win the next general election whenever that may be held. May be held. Well, yesterday his deputy, Angela Rayner took to the conference. She said that labour will act as a stark contrast to the conservatives. Oh no, we the conservatives. Oh no, we have to take our word for it. That was what she is saying, she whispered there at that stage. But she certainly was whispering. She was talking about helping work forces doing away with zero contract hours as well for unions and so there were so many things for her to talk about and to do yesterday, which has made much of the news today. What can we expect today . Hey, lets go to Catherine Foster , who joins us live now foster, who joins us live now from liverpool with her analysis. Catherine oh, it seems we have a problem with the sound there as well. There as well. The problem, rachel, shes back. Reeves the shadow chancellor speaking at 12 00, and shes going to be talking about growth and about slash ing planning regulations. Now, you might regulations. Now, you might think that sounds rather similar to what one liz truss talked aboutin to what one liz truss talked about in her very short seven weeks of being Prime Minister. This time last year. But that really is where the similar rmt ends, because the way that labour think theyre going to get this growth and get britain building , as she will say, is building, as she will say, is through investment in green technology. One of labours missions is of course to be a green super power. The labour green super power. The labour party believe that the net zero agenda has huge opportunities for britain in terms of creating jobs and they want to really lean into that. So what were expect ing is theyre going to announce a major planning regulation overhaul , regulation overhaul, particularly to make it easier to get planning approval for things like onshore wind for gigafactories , for laboratories, gigafactories, for laboratories, for 5g infrastructure. Also ipso likely to announce a crackdown on covid fraud. Shes going to estimate that Ā£7. 2 billion of money was wasted by the government to fraud and waste dunng government to fraud and waste during covid. And shes going to say they want that back. Since it was scrapped five years ago and itv say this new series will have an increased focus on contestants welfare and theyll have access to Mental Health professionals throughout. But lets not forget the early days of big brother, the ones which everybody remembers. Ones which everybody remembers. And it started 23 years ago. The first ever winner was craig phillips. Do you remember him . Phillips. Do you remember him . Lets have a look. Yes. You lets have a look. Yes. You havent changed a bit, craig. Havent changed a bit. My friend damon. Damon. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Thank you. You neither. Damon, you need that. Good morning, isabella. How are you , craig . How are you, craig . How are you, craig . I didnt get a look last night. It was past our bedtime, but were you able to tune in . I did tune in and i watched it. Yes. And it was a colourful bunch of characters in there. I think 60 housemates, all went in from different walks of life. So i do believe its going to be an interesting one. And i think theyll they hopefully will get it right now. Its been off for air about six years, so hopefully the public are ready to see it again. To see it again. Do you think they got it right when were in 23 years right when you were in 23 years ago, do you think we were all ago, or do you think we were all ago, or do you think we were all a bit naive about the impact it had contestants . Because had on contestants . Because i think back to nasty nick and the villa ification of him in the press what press and goodness knows what that his life after he that did for his life after he left. Do you that did for his life after he left. Do you think it left. Do you think they got it right . From off . Right . Right from the off . I believe i believe the format was right from the off, whether the contestants were right or not, i dont know. You know, public behind it. Know, the public got behind it. The behind it. Yes of the press got behind it. Yes of course, they did make a villain out of nasty because he was out of nasty nick because he was cheating was telling cheating and he was telling lies. The to back after log after that, you know, was quite difficult for him. I did spend some time with nick after the show and i believe he shouldnt have got a hard innings as bad as he did. Well for you, it evolved in a certain way and, you know, you went in there as a handyman and as a as a builder there. And to this day, thats what you still do in various forms. What are you doing at the moment . Right. Thats right. You know, weve worked on over 2000 makeover shows. We do a lot of online video content to try and help people do diy and make their homes more eco. You know, we recently teamed up with santander , the bank, to help santander, the bank, to help people, making their houses more eco. A big survey they did with eco. A big survey they did with over 2000 homeowners realised that a lot of people didnt know how to retrofit their house and make it more economical to run and comfortable to live in. And you know, just generally all environmental friendly. So for me , having young kids now me, having young kids now aiming, you know , yes, i love my aiming, you know, yes, i love my diy and i love doing my Building Work on my houses and videos, but its also about trying to share my knowledge to people so they can do their own work on their house. And youve shared a little of money and yeah, little bit of money and yeah, ive your videos. Ive been using your videos. I didnt realise it craig i didnt realise it till you up just now, but till you popped up just now, but ive doing painting my ive been doing painting my beams property beams in my listed property rather sandblasting them rather than sandblasting them because black. Ive because theyre black. Ive been painting white and then painting them white and then using the furniture polish with your thank you for that i they work and were glad theyre working. We get some theyre working. Now we get some amazing comments from the public, know, all across our public, you know, all across our social media about how we do social media is about how we do help them, inspire them with ideas, become ideas, inspire them to become more eco friendly and, of course, save money as well. You know, so and i believe once people doing diy , they people do start doing diy, they want to do it more and more. Youre right. And 10s what did you think of the brother refit way the the big brother refit way the house was fantastic. The house looked absolutely amazing, certainly compared to the house that we lived in, thats for sure. So i think that alone is to going draw the attention of the public to want to watch it. And hopefully the characters in there will keep the attention for the whole duration. Good man yourself, craig. Pleasure talking to always a pleasure talking to you. 23 always a pleasure talking to you. 23 years, where did that go . Thank you very much good morning. Good morning.
