In some places. Find out all the details in the forecast coming up soon. And of course paul coyte is here with your sport. Thanks and morning. Mostly decent results in europe for british sides and in the opening game of the cricket world cup, england were whats the word im looking for were trounced thrashed spank mullard any more that we can do hammered annihilated. Okay not a great annihilated. Okay not a great start, but its early days. Its early. Early. It is early days. Its early time as well. 6 01. Im anne diamond. Diamond. And im Martin Daubney. And this is breakfast on. Gb news. This is breakfast on. Gb news. Good morning. So labour have won the rutherglen and Hamilton West by election as a 20 swing. So Michael Shanks, take the seat from the Scottish National party i now, the scottish seat was youll probably remember it was vacated when Margaret Ferrier was suspended from the house of commons for breaching covid rules, and that to led a recall petition and commenting after the announcement. Labour leader sir keir starmer said the people in rutherglen and Hamilton West have sent a clear message it is time for change. Well, speaking after the result , the new mp for result, the new mp for rutherglen and Hamilton West, Michael Shanks, had this to say. It feels incredible to represent the community that i live in, the community that i live in, the community that i live in, the community that i love, but also i do feel the responsibility of thousands of people that have put their trust in me. Ive met many of these people over the past six months. Its been long by election been a very long by election campaign. Know a of campaign. And i know a lot of the aspirations, the challenges that me and that theyve raised with me and now put trust in now theyve put their trust in me on that. And me to deliver on that. And thats the hard work thats thats the hard work thats thats the hard work thats ahead of us. This is the absolutely extraordinary result, a seismic result. Think this will result. And i think this will send snp send shockwaves through the snp and moment in and the historic moment in scottish politics. I think scottish politics is fundamentally changed. Tonight. The people of rutherglen and hamilton demonstrated Hamilton West have demonstrated that scotland are sick of two failing governments. They want the incompetence, chaos and the incompetence, the chaos and the incompetence, the chaos and the division to come to an end and theyre desperate for change and theyre desperate for change and theyre desperate for change and they can now see that that vehicle for change with the vehicle for change is with the scottish party. Scottish labour party. Will have been well, there will have been lots of celebrations overnight, i think. Lets our i think. Lets speak to our deputy Political Editor , tom deputy Political Editor, tom hannood. Called it seismic. Hannood. He called it seismic. Would you agree . Think that to some extent, i think that to some extent, this victory will, of course, be celebrated by the labour party. But need to take step back but we need to take a step back and the context in which and look at the context in which this held. This this by election was held. This is that Jeremy Corbyn won is a seat that Jeremy Corbyn won in 2017. This is a seat thats flip flopped between the snp and the labour party in the last four elections in in that seat. So of course the labour party has just won it. In 2019, the snp won it in 2017, the labour party won it 15 snp, ten labour. So it is this sort of seat that keeps flipping backwards and fonnards and i think if the labour party hadnt won it today , people would be raising eyebrows about whether or not the labour partys poll lead is actually real and whether or not what were seeing in the polls is actually turning out to be the case on the ground. So this is a sigh of relief, i would say, for the labour party. And in that what what looks to be their sizeable poll lead turns out to be real. But in terms of reading into it, more than that , it i think we should probably take a step back and say this isnt the most seismic election victory in the world. This is a seat, after all that Jeremy Corbyn managed to win just a few years ago, but 58 of the vote to 20 swing the mood music is good, but a nightmare for humza yousaf firm. The one of the Time Magazine peoples nine most trailblaze rising leaders is a night to forget for the snp. Forget for the snp. Certainly Humza Yousafs first electoral test as as snp leader and clearly it hasnt gone well. Now supposedly in the defence of the snp. Of course this was a unique circumstance set for this by election. Of course. Margaret ferrier had been an absent mp for quite some time. The snp had been calling on her to resign. It took a recall petition to get her turfed out of this seat and if we remember the context of the egregious breach of covid rules, that sort of created the circumstances for this by election in the first place, she was covid positive. She got on a train from westminster up to scotland , westminster up to scotland, didnt she . She certainly did. And after shed taken a test, she actually did more travel. She went and did more travel. She went and did some christmas shopping. She went to gym. The while she went to a gym. All the while she was supposed to sit and wait for her results. And after she her results. And then after she got results , she hopped on got those results, she hopped on a train, surrounded by other people go all the way across people to go all the way across the length of the country. This was clearly a massive, massive breach of covid rules and responsibility for an elected official. The recall petition was, of course , successful, and was, of course, successful, and thats meant that there has been a very long run up to this by election campaign. The labour party selected Michael Shanks as their candidate a long time before the by election, was called a long time before the writ was moved for this election. And theyve been working these streets for many, many he said. Working these streets for many, ma that he said. Working these streets for many, ma that didnt he said. Working these streets for many, ma that didnt he . Iaid. Working these streets for many, ma that didnt he . He. Working these streets for many, ma that didnt he . He said, we that didnt he . He said, we have been working so hard at this well, at least their hard work did pay last night. Work did pay off last night. Well bit later on well talk more a bit later on in programme. Now theres in the programme. Now theres more a man who more happening because a man who broke into Windsor Castle armed with a loaded crossbow to kill the late queen, has been sentenced to nine years in jail for the crime of treason. Yeah. Jaswant singh chow wandered around inside the grounds for two hours on Christmas Day in 2021, before two officers confronted him with tasers as the late Queen Elizabeth was in residence, along with other members of the royal family. Our royal correspondent Cameron Walker will tell you more the moment self styled more the moment a self styled assassin was arrested in the grounds of Windsor Castle carrying a powerful crossbow capable of firing bolts with lethal force. His target , Queen Elizabeth his target, Queen Elizabeth ii Jaswant Singh chahal, was captured on cctv wandering Windsor Town Centre before carrying out his crimes on Christmas Morning 2021. He climbs the castles outer fence using a nylon rope ladder. Charles spent two hours inside the grounds, close to the late queens private residence , where queens private residence, where she and members of her family were spending the festive day , were spending the festive day, eventually challenged by police , charles told officers, i am here to kill the queen he was a dangerous individual, intent on doing harm to her late majesty the queen. And if it hadnt been, as i say, for the officers on the day, this could have been a very different outcome. But the officers there for that officers are there for that reason to protect the royal family that that family and others that that warrant that protection. Earlier, dark hours earlier, wearing dark clothes metal mask, the clothes and a metal mask, the star fanatic whatsapped star wars fanatic whatsapped a video family and friends video to family and friends apologising what he was apologising for what he was about to do when he was arrested. Police found a note written by charles should he be killed by police during the assassination attempt. He asked. Please dont remove my clothes, shoes, gloves , mask, etcetera. I dont want a post mortem. I dont want to be embalmed. He then apologised for embalmed. He then apologised for his actions. Charles said he was seeking revenge for the amritsar massacre in 1919, when british troops opened fire on thousands of indians in a journal. He wrote that if the queen was unobtainable , he suggested unobtainable, he suggested Prince Charles, now king, would be a suitable figurehead for revenge. Charles aid with treason, making a threat to kill her late majesty and having a loaded crossbow in a public place. As the young man from place. As the young man from southampton was assessed at broadmoor Psychiatric Hospital, which found he did not exhibit extremism, he pleaded guilty to all charges during hearings at the old bailey. The court heard the old bailey. The court heard charles had applied for the army, a special police force, Royal Marines and the royal navy, in a bid to get close to the royal family. It also heard he was encouraged and bolstered to do what he did by an Artificial Intelligence virtual girlfriend who hed exchanged more than 5000 sexual messages with. Charles barrister nadia with. Charles barrister nadia chabat said he apologised to the royal family and the king in a letter to the court, where he expressed distress and sadness about the impact of his actions. His treating psychiatrist dr. Christian brown , recommended a christian brown, recommended a hospital order. But professor nigel blackwood, for the prosecution said the attack was carefully planned and charles was well aware it was wrong. Was well aware it was wrong. Whelchel was flanked by four people when he entered the dock at the old bailey in london yesterday. His family were also there. His mother, father and twin sister were there to hear him sentence. Now the judge had to weigh up whether a custodial jail sentence or a stay in a Psychiatric Hospital was most appropriate for the defendant. The judge concluded that a combination of the two was necessary. So child was sent necessary. So child was sent back to broadmoor Psychiatric Hospital for further treatment. Hospital for further treatment. Following that treatment, charles will serve the rest of his sentence in prison and on licence. The 21 year old becomes licence. The 21 year old becomes the first person to be sentenced under the treason act of 1842. In more than 40 years, Cameron Walker gb news well , joining us walker gb news well, joining us now is royal correspondent and writer michael cole. Good morning to you, michael. A very serious situation , mr a very serious situation, mr charles, is clearly a very unwell individual. But what does unwell individual. But what does it say about the state of Royal Security . This guy was able to Wander Around the palace grounds for two hours before he was intercepted. Intercepted. Yeah. Morning, martin. Yeah. Good morning, martin. Good morning. And a very serious breach of Royal Security. As you breach of Royal Security. As you say, he was within the precincts of the castle for two hours before he was challenged and disarmed and arrested. And it disarmed and arrested. And it might be said that had he raised that crossbow, a very Deadly Weapon or pointed it, he would have been charged with high treason. And that would have resulted or potentially resulted in a life sentence, as it is. In a life sentence, as it is. And, of course, we must remember this was the queens last christmas with us. So and all the family were there as anne just said, a very serious matter. But as the police kept saying yesterday, nobody was harmed. So the systems worked. The judge , mr justice harmed. So the systems worked. The judge , mrjustice hillyard , the judge, mr justice hillyard, passed this hybrid sentence. So passed this hybrid sentence. So hes going to this very secure high security Psychiatric Hospital, broadmoor and then after treatment to jail. So the worst didnt happen. The systems worst didnt happen. The systems did work, but it was a serious breach of Royal Security. Nothing like this has happened since shots were fired, blank shots were fired. In 90 in 1972. Shots were fired. In 90 in 1972. Two. Yes, thats right. No, no, 1981. In the mal when the queen was riding to the trooping of the colour. So serious matter. But a happy outcome except for him. And the odd aspect of it him. And the odd aspect of it was this interference with the Artificial Intelligence girlfriend , spurring him on to girlfriend, spurring him on to attempt this crime. Attempt this crime. Yeah. I mean, you say that the systems worked and thats what we heard the police chief saying there. But i mean, as you reminded us, this was the queens last christmas surrounded by her family. She surrounded by her family. She when she would have been much more vulnerable than weve seen her in previous years in her more vulnerable than weve seen her in which 15 years in her more vulnerable than weve seen her in which afterirs in her more vulnerable than weve seen her in which after all,1 her more vulnerable than weve seen her in which after all, is|er home, which after all, is a castle. Its a fortress. Its castle. Its a fortress. Its not good enough, is it, to say the systems worked . He was around. He was allowed to go around. He was allowed to go around. He was allowed to go around for two hours before he was apprehended. Was apprehended. I think youre absolutely right. Its a i think youre absolutely right. Its a huge i think youre absolutely right. Its a huge estate, of right. Its a huge estate, of course. And you can probably on Christmas Day find some hiding places. But what is the worst places. But what is the worst thing . And of course, youve hit thing . And of course, youve hit uponit thing . And of course, youve hit upon it and mean when the queen goes abroad or the monarch goes abroad , theres a security abroad, theres a security assessment carefully taken before she goes. And she always before she goes. And she always went wherever the government said it was safe for to her go. And im sure it will be the same with the king. But of course, this was their home. Thats the worst aspect of it. They came right into the precincts of her home. I think there would obviously have been after the event, a very clear assessment of whether the systems were good enough. Of whether the systems were good enough. They got away with it enough. They got away with it this time. Thank goodness they did, because this man was equipped with the means to kill an one has to wonder why are these weapons even on sale and available . Well, presumably this available . Well, presumably this was obtained in this country. I think they are. Youll see it. What a deadly looking thing it is. Somebody has made money selling that to this man whos now in a Psychiatric Hospital and going to jail for a long time. Michael , the method of entry michael, the method of entry was very rudimentary to say the least. This guy threw a nylon rope ladder over the perimeter wall and just scuttled in. I mean, its hardly the great escape, is it . Has the security been beefed up to your knowledge, since this incident . Well, there have been other incidents of course, you remember that performance artists with the beard who got into a big party that was their beforehand that caused a few ructions, i suppose , sir, there ructions, i suppose, sir, there arent enough people to make a perimeter , a cordon around it. Perimeter, a cordon around it. Night and day. There are people on patrol and even on Christmas Day, im sure with the with the family and residence, there would have been a full, full patrol of officers. But it is a patrol of officers. But it is a big estate. It determined an big estate. It determined an assassin can always get through. Im afraid that is the truth of the matter. Were going way back. Of the matter. Were going way back. You can see that in back. You can see that in history. Many, many attempts , history. Many, many attempts, not only in this country but elsewhere during Queen Victorias time, there were seven determined attempts to assassinate her. Fortunately, none of them succeed. And on none of them succeed. And on this occasion, the outcome was not a tragic one. Yeah, thank goodness for that, michael. Good to talk to you as ever. Thanks very much indeed. You as ever. Thanks very much indeed. Its 615. A reminder of indeed. Its 615. A reminder of our top stories today. And our top stories today. And labour have won the rutherglen and Hamilton West by election in scotland and took the seat from the snp. Were going to look at what this will mean for the next general election. And a man who general election. And a man who broke into Windsor Castle on with a loaded crossbow to kill the late queen has been sentenced to nine years in jail for the crime of treason. Do stick with us, because coming up, students at Exeter University can now study the roots of spells as part of a new degree in magic. What do you think of that. Degree in magic. What do you think of that. At id like to do think of that. At id like to do a degree in magic. Sounds great. Sounds magic. Sounds great. Sounds magic. It does, doesnt it . And i know it might sound like one of those mickey mouse rubbish degrees that people always do down, maybe its not. Well down, but maybe its not. Well find the Home Office Find out more. The home office is continuing to convert the former raf base at scampton into a camp for Asylum Seekers , a camp for Asylum Seekers, despite being told to stop work immediately. West Lindsey District Council served the home office with a stop notice on the 22nd of september for breaching planning restrictions. But since then, the council and locals say the trucks keep coming and workers carrying on our east midlands. Coming and workers carrying on our east midlands. Reporter will our east midlands. So spares of everything , so spares of everything, batteries, torches, tea, coffee, sugan batteries, torches, tea, coffee, sugar, water. Sarah only lives a mile away. On the other side of scampton. Shes been living in a tent for a week , but her battle to stop a week, but her battle to stop Asylum Seekers moving into the old raf base has lasted six months. The home office is preparing scampton to house 2000 Asylum Seekers, but now west Lindsey District Council has told the home office to stop work, saying its breaching planning restrictions. It served an enforcement notice and a stop notice. An enforcement notice and a stop nofice. The an enforcement notice and a stop notice. The same powers used to control a dodgy builder. But the Lincolnshire Council and Community Says contractor are ploughing on. I clocked in one hour between half, six and half seven in the morning and 47 vehicles going on. The people that are making the laws are breaking the laws and so were taking it upon ourselves to make sure that we document they are breaking document that they are breaking the. The law. The office is struggling the home office is struggling to manage number of migrants to manage the number of migrants reaching britains old reaching britains shores. Old military bases are badged as a small solution for the growing problem. West Lindsey District Council disagrees. Is problem. West Lindsey District Council disagrees. Is a problem. West Lindsey District Council disagrees. Is a £300 council disagrees. Is a £300 million deal to transform the old base into a Heritage Centre was soaring. Now its in freefall. According to the councils director of planning and regeneration, sally grindrod smith. We are very concerned about the conditions on site, the state of the site and theres a huge amount of buildings that are on that site that could come back into commercial use. Weve spoken previously about the runway and the airfield , which runway and the airfield, which is a very valuable asset. In a statement, the Home Office Said , we are aware that office said, we are aware that west Lindsey District Council hasissued west Lindsey District Council has issued a notice in relation to the works at scampton. We are carefully considering the implications of this notice as bakhmut scampton support for the campaign isnt hard to come by. Its very noisy, but i normally sleep with a fan on anyway, even dunng sleep with a fan on anyway, even during the winter, so it doesnt bother me. The noise. The noise. Sarah and other locals are staying here until the end of october when a judicial review will if the home office will decide if the home office plans scampton base can go plans for scampton base can go ahead. Outside locals are calling their makeshift camp dunkirk spirit. People coming together. The worry is that inside the base history is being torn apart. Will hollis gb news in scampton and of course, the history is very important to the locals. There. I think because raf there. I think because raf scampton was the home of the dambuster squadron. Dambuster squadron. Thats right. And red arrows and the red arrows, more recently. Yeah. And although , i mean, yeah. And although, i mean, it was never built to be a beautiful, pretty place because it built very it was just built as a very quick , you know, raf base during quick, you know, raf base during the war. So it nevertheless, i mean, you know, some of our greatest heroes lived there and worked there and put their lives on the line there. I feel quite upset about it actually, because i really, really admire im not saying its necessarily the right thing to do because we have to house migrants somewhere, but local people who just you know, protest piece of peaceably but forcefully make their points really well. Yeah with a mug of tea in their hand and a, you know, a tent behind them thats terribly british as well isnt it. Yeah. And theyve come together peacefully. Theyre doing the right thing. They chastised right thing. They get chastised by as being right wing by the media as being right wing or extremist and nothing of the kind. Locals. Ive kind. Their concern locals. Ive been similar situation. Been to similar situation. Linton on ouse and spoke with linton on ouse and i spoke with a of locals. Very, a bunch of locals. Theyre very, very about 500 very concerned about about 500 men on a of men being dumped on a village of 150. Yes, thats right. And i think its just not right. And i think its just not right. And i think what theyre doing there is admirable. Thought that was very yeah, i thought that was very british it british spirit, wasnt it . It was dunkirk nice to see was dunkirk spirit. Nice to see in one way. But you may disagree. Wed love to hear what youve to the matter. Youve got to say on the matter. Vaiews gbnews. Com. Dont forget to in touch now. To get in touch right now. Youll want know the youll want to know what the weather is going to like. Weather is going to be like. Good morning to hello. Very good morning to you. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from with the gb from the met office with the gb news forecast. Warm news forecast. A fine and warm day to in the south, but day to come in the south, but cloudy and breezy elsewhere with outbreaks of rain in places. Mostly central parts of mostly these central parts of southern scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and north wales, where well see the wettest conditions. The rain, heavy and persistent over the hills. I heavy and persistent over the hills. I think north of the central belt, therell be some brightness initial rain brightness after initial rain clears it will be clears away, but it will be windy much cooler here with windy and much cooler here with that wind coming from the north for far north of scotland for the far north of scotland along showers. So 13 along with a few showers. So 13 celsius, example. The celsius, for example. But in the south, well, thats where the sunshine will be at its warmest with temperatures here of 20 to 23, perhaps 24 celsius. We keep some of that warmth into the evening and overnight, certainly a breezy night and a cloudy night for many. So temperatures arent going to fall far for the Northern Isles. Were going to see strong wind see showers and a strong wind from gales in exposed from the north. Gales in exposed parts. For the rest of parts. But for the rest of scotland actually , its scotland actually, its increasingly wet by dawn with some heavy rain turning up, especially in west of especially in the west of scotland, elsewhere across the uk, some low clouds mistiness first weekend, but it first thing this weekend, but it will lift fairly quickly and sunshine will develop widely across england and wales. The far north of england, seeing a wet start, perhaps , but the rain wet start, perhaps, but the rain should ease off into the afternoon. Northern ireland seeing but seeing some hazy sunshine. But for central belt north into for the central belt north into northern parts of mainland scotland, its going to be very wet saturday with the wet through saturday with the risk of localised flooding. 24 celsius in the south and coming up, a royal visit at Aston Villa Paul coyte will be joining us with all the latest sports headlines. This is breakfast on gb news 624. Its lovely to be with you. Welcome back. Youre watching and listening to breakfast with anne and martin. Should we have a look at some of the stories coming into our newsroom as we speak . Oh, yeah. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy that zelenskyy has said that a russian attack which Russian Missile attack which killed people a killed at least 51 people in a Ukrainian Village was no blind strike and Russian Troops could not have been unaware of where they were striking the attack was the deadliest in the Kharkiv Region since russias invasion. More than 19 months ago and appeared to be one of the biggest civilian death tolls in any single russian strike. Us president , joe biden, the us president , joe biden, has defended his administrate decision to waive 26 federal laws in south texas to allow for construction of approximately 20 miles of Additional Border wall, saying he had no choice but to use the trump era funding for the barrier to stop illegal migration from mexico. So hes building a wall. The new construction was announced in june, but the funds were appropriated in 2019 before the democratic president took over biden said hed tried to get lawmakers to redirect the money, but congress refused. And the law requires the funding to be used as approved and the construction to be completed in 2023, which seems to me a very long winded way of saying hes building a wall. Yes, he is. Hes taking trumps idea and broadband customers have been warned could up to £150 warned they could pay up to £150 more they expected over the more than they expected over the next two years due to unpredictable mid Contract Price rises. The Consumer Group, which rises. The Consumer Group, which has called on the communication regulator to ban the regulator ofcom to ban the practise altogether as it found that several major suppliers could see increases of more than 8 on average next year. Okay, 8 on average next year. Okay, lets get into the Serious Business now of going through all the latest sports headlines as mr paul coyte is here living with this. You know, this is Serious Business. Liverpool were in action last night. Had they finally stopped moaning about offside. Moaning about that offside. Oh, you what . Its oh, you know what . Its dnven oh, you know what . Its driven crazy. See, thing driven me crazy. See, the thing is, had point to is, ive had people point to going, just because youre a going, oh, just because youre a spurs fan and an i dont know whether aware what whether youre aware of what happened at the weekend cut a very, long story short, very, very long story short, liverpool had goal should liverpool had a goal that should have allowed , which was have been allowed, which was disallowed through var. Yes, i heard about that. Yes, i heard about that. Anyway, its just gone huge. Anyway, its just gone huge. And then weve had the tapes and wasnt there. Talks about replaying the whole match again . Well, this is what is ridiculous, preposterous because theres so many games over the last 3 everything. Last 2 or 3 everything. Wouldnt they go back to everything . But you know, the Jurgen Klopps the answer klopps home . Well, the answer is just thought that is so is it just thought that the didnt see it. The referee just didnt see it. Well, the referee. The well, no, the referee. The referee but the thing referee was there. But the thing is, is the point where the is, this is the point where the linesman flagged it as an offside and then it goes to the var. So they have a look at it and then no, thats all and then go, no, thats all right. Hes right. But made right. Hes right. But they made the did, the wrong decision. They did, yeah. You hear the yeah. And then you hear the panic in their voice going, oh, and then there were expletives that then they that are there and then they realise theres they can realise theres nothing they can do. When the game do. Because when the game restarts, actually restarts, you cant actually pull again. So in pull it back again. No. So in football, you have to just football, do you have to just live that . Live with that . Youve got to suck it yeah, youve got to suck it up. Youve got to suck it up and move and they did that last move on. And they did that last night. They 2 0 at home. Night. They won 2 0 at home. They against okay. They did win against union sg is union san union sg which is union san gauloises belgium and you gauloises of belgium and you know what . Was interesting know what . It was interesting because a game of two because it was a game of two brothers, the mcallister brothers. Got brothers. Now, i think weve got weve a picture of this weve got a picture of this is alexis and his Alexis Mcallister and his brother kevin. Now, theres kevin on the now, you may kevin on the right now, you may have of a Kevin Mcallister kevin on the right now, you may hdoes of a Kevin Mcallister kevin on the right now, you may hdoes of a ikevinmcallister kevin on the right now, you may hdoes of a iKevin Mcallister. Does the name Kevin Mcallister ring yeah thats thats ring a bell . Yeah thats thats the old scotland and leeds. The old scotland and leeds. Thats pallister home alone. Kevin mcallister. You know, that was Macaulay Culkins character was called Kevin Mcallister named after that. Is that why they called him that he actually because as as actually is because as crazy as it is and theyre argentinean. So theres us. Theres kevin on the left. Whos the older brother of alexis. So theyve brother of alexis. So theyve named hes the one in blue for those watching in black and white. Absolutely. Thats right. Yeah. Yeah so. So kevin, hes named after the home alone. Oh, lovely. Incredible talking of kevins, can now, talking of kevins, can i you very about i ask you very quickly about kevin keegan . I ask you very quickly about kev oh, eegan . I ask you very quickly about kev oh, yes, n . I ask you very quickly about keth, yes, because i know that oh, yes, because i know that people home are going to get people at home are going to get worked up over this. Okay. But he has apparently said that he doesnt to said that he doesnt like to hear commentators hear lady football commentators commentating mens commentating on the mens game right commentating on the mens game rigiwhat he said or what he meant what he said or what he meant to say. And i think its pretty safe is that hes problem is when you get and he called them lady footballers or women pundits, whatever is when they will then describe of their experiences in a situation. So for example, if its an fa cup final for example, if its an fa cup final, you may have alex scott or whatever and saying , well, or whatever and saying, well, when i played in the fa cup final when i played in the fa cup final, this is what happens. So what hes saying is you cannot compare what theyve done compared to what theyre commentating. And hes right, which i think essentially is correct. But when it comes to women, pundits, etcetera, theres no problem with that. Its the same as journalists. I mean, there are some very famous ones. Of course, there is. But if you look at journalists and people write about people that write about football, theyre not professional footballers. Im not professional. Fair to call kevin so is it fair to call kevin keegan, some doing today, keegan, as some are doing today, a no i dont think so. A dinosaur . No i dont think so. Look, i think not. I think look, i think not. See see, i dont think having met him several times, youve probably met him a million times. But hes a nice bloke. Yeah, he is. I dont think hed want to be deliberately offensive in any credible title. Okay so were going to throw it. Were running time, but lets running out of time, but lets throw open you, gb views throw it open to you, gb views at cbnnews. Com is kevin keegan a dinosaur . Should he grow up and dinosaur . Should he grow up and just accept all sorts of lady as he puts it, commentators, whether they are very experienced or not, as experienced or not, as experienced as the men talking about the mens game . What do you think . Or is he bang on the money as a lot people seem to think, a lot of people seem to think, including whos including joey barton, whos waded lets waded into this anyway, lets move on. Its sixth of move on. Its now sixth of kwasi. 6 30 am. This is kwasi. Its 6 30 am. This is breakfast on gb news with anne and martin. Breakfast on gb news with anne and hreminder, said it was a reminder, you said it was a m because i wouldnt have known vegas the big story, of vegas. Yes, the big story, of course, overnight is that labour have won rutherglen and have won the rutherglen and hamilton by election in Hamilton West by election in scotland they took the seat scotland and they took the seat from the we will look at from the snp. We will look at what this could mean for the next general election and a man who broke into Windsor Castle armed with a loaded crossbow to kill the late queen has been sentenced to nine years in jail for the crime of treason. The home office is continuing to convert the former raf base at scampton into a camp for Asylum Seekers, despite being told to stop work immediately. Told to stop work immediately. And still to come, well be speaking to shadow chief secretary to the treasury pat mcfadden, a little later about all the political stories that matter to you, including that by election win in scotland. By election win in scotland. Sorry, i didnt mean that unkindly when i said thank you for letting me know. Its the morning. I just meant sometimes you get a bit flustered and you dont know whether its morning or evening half the time. Yeah anyway, what are doing next . Anyway, what are we doing next . We talking in couple we are talking in a couple of moments about arresting moments about police arresting a man an alleged kidnap plot man over an alleged kidnap plot to tv presenter Holly Willoughby. Well be discussing more on headline makers next. But youre watching breakfast on gb news hello again. Right lovely to be with you. 634 shall we bring you up to date with whats happening in the newspapers . The telegraph first leading with keir starmer says he wont bring hs2 back to life if he wins the next general election. Now the u turn there and the guardian say september heat was out of control. Heat was out of control. According to stunned scientist. Scientist. Thats in the mail. Exclusive nurses drugged stroke patients for an easy life on an nhs ward. Horrible story that and finally, the sensational soaraway daily star says the average brit now has just 3. 7 true friends as the uk hits out at billy nomi aids. Why do they find the stories you agree . You agree . Thats a good point. Thats a good point. Seven friends. Seven friends. I think quality, not quantity i totally agree. True. True. Joining us to go through some of the days headlines this morning, Deputy Deputy Political Editor at the mail on sunday, Anna Mikhailova and journalist and broadcaster andy jones. And and broadcaster andy jones. And its lovely to see you both. Hello there. Right. What are we starting with . Were going to kick off with this. We talked about this earlier, fascinating front page of the guardian, ghosts labour guardian, the ghosts of labour past are coming out. Campbell big wilson, campbell all the big wilson, all the big ones. I have to say, i saw this and grown this morning because, you know , we got Alastair Campbell know, we got Alastair Campbell taking up most of this story , taking up most of this story, telling us how keir starmer is apparently not being bold enough, not doing the right things to win. Enough, not doing the right things to win. Then obviously, things to win. Then obviously, Peter Mandelson , then charlie Peter Mandelson, then Charlie Faulkner , all all of all of the faulkner, all all of all of the greatest hits of 1997 are now , i greatest hits of 1997 are now, i have to say. I mean, theres a lot you can criticise keir starmer for, but on the morning where hes won just quite a significant scottish by election which will set the tone for his current conference, listening to what Alastair Campbells got to say, i dont think its to going change the dial, particularly Alastair Campbell saying it. Is it . Well, no, but its also mandy and but David Miliband saying the same again. Massive success in labour. Massive success in labour. But theyre saying that hes got to be bold. I mean, obviously there are conferences coming hes got to be bold. Coming up. Hes got to be bold. Hes actually got to say things coming up. Hes got to be bold. Hes iftually got to say things coming up. Hes got to be bold. Hes if even got to say things coming up. Hes got to be bold. Hes if even if ot to say things coming up. Hes got to be bold. Hes if even if it to say things coming up. Hes got to be bold. Hes if even if it causes things coming up. Hes got to be bold. Hes if even if it causes a ings coming up. Hes got to be bold. Hes if even if it causes a lot; even if even if it causes a lot of debate. Yeah, you cant just of debate. Yeah, you cant just keep sitting on the fence and agreeing with the government over everything. Yeah, i mean, thats true. Thatis yeah, i mean, thats true. That is absolutely true. But again, sort of look again, you have to sort of look at these people criticising at who these people criticising. Think its going at who these people criticising. Massively think its going at who these people criticising. Massively hurtlk its going at who these people criticising. Massively hurt keirs going at who these people criticising. Massively hurt keir starmer to massively hurt keir starmer to massively hurt keir starmer to have campbell and mandelson saying things. Saying these things. The last people but the last, the last people who won enormous who won an enormous labour election. Who won an enormous labour election andy, whats interesting, and andy, whats interesting, you its not often you know, its not often you hear saying agree with hear me saying i agree with alastair but he is Alastair Campbell, but he is saying us some policy. You saying show us some policy. You know, got or what know, flashes your got or what do stand got do you stand for . We got conference coming sunday in conference coming on sunday in liverpool and mandelson is here is i dont think keir is saying i dont think keir starmer is ready government. Is saying i dont think keir sta yeahis ready government. Is saying i dont think keir sta yeah i ready government. Is saying i dont think keir sta yeah i wast government. Is saying i dont think keir sta yeah i was going government. Is saying i dont think keir sta yeah i was going govsay,1ent. Yeah i was going to say, theres two things that really leapt at me. First all, leapt out at me. First of all, mandelson saying is not mandelson saying storm is not ready which that mandelson saying storm is not reada which that mandelson saying storm is not reada really which that mandelson saying storm is not reada really big which that mandelson saying storm is not reada really big ticket which that mandelson saying storm is not reada really big ticket item. That was a really big ticket item. And i dont understand why that wasnt the headline and i dont understand why that wa ait the headline and i dont understand why that wa a journalist. The headline and i dont understand why that wa a journalist. Andie headline and i dont understand why that wa a journalist. Andlethinkline as a journalist. And i think thats punch because thats got punch because obviously mandelson was across however different however many different successful or long running governments. Successful or long running governm he. S. Successful or long running governm he says, if we werent a point. He says, if we werent being attacked , we werent doing being attacked, we werent doing our and think this is the our job. And i think this is the same in the conservative party. I same in the i think its the same in the labour many labour party. Too many politicians trying please politicians are trying to please absolutely so you absolutely everybody. So you have absolutely vanilla have these absolutely vanilla policies of vague policies and its sort of vague culture war and people culture war stuff and people arent prepared to put out any statements because theyre fear of attacked, their of of being attacked, their fear of having bad headline in having a bad, bad headline in one paper, but actually , look, one paper, but actually, look, were in a position where this our needs action. It our country needs action. It needs affirmative action. And needs a affirmative action. And the big ticket items, economy , the big ticket items, economy, transport, health, etcetera, etcetera, are all being, all being proactively dealt with. And i think and i think campbell is right. He says if you werent being attacked, that we werent is right. He says if you werent being ouricked, that we werent is right. He says if you werent being our job d, that we werent is right. He says if you werent being our job properly. E werent is right. He says if you werent being our job properly. And ent doing ourjob properly. And also, points out an obsessive also, he points out an obsessive attention detail how many of attention to detail how many of these these of these policies, these sort of whether rwanda policy whether its the rwanda policy with government with the conservative government and elsewhere, with the conservative government and feel elsewhere, with the conservative government and feel flimsy. Elsewhere, with the conservative government and feel flimsy. Theyre1ere, with the conservative government and feel flimsy. Theyre not, they feel flimsy. Theyre not thought launched on thought out. They launched on a monday and theyre immediately dismissed on friday. This will and i wonder, anna, this will make think that maybe the make people think that maybe the blairites are pulling the strings of starmer. Is he turning into a kind of blair lite puppet . Well yes and no. I mean, i think its sort of almost the that has been the narrative. And i think that is a very fair narrative because to say keir starmer is leaning into blair is a massive understatement. Know hes the first labour leader since since blair. She publicly sit down with him to say publicly hes talking to him, going back even five years. That was an absolute no no. I mean, you talk about David Miliband. He would never have done that. But i think the have done that. But i think the thing that strikes up here jumps out at me is they say they need bold economic policies. Now. Yes, i agree. Bold economic policies. Now. Yes, i agree. See, lots of yes, i agree. See, lots of people agree. But what bold people agree. But what bold economic policies can you have in the middle of a massive cost of living crisis in the middle of living crisis in the middle of huge Government Debt . 2. 6 trillion . 2. 6 trillion . Yeah. And i think thats yeah. And i think thats surely the very time we need some really good policies to listen to. Well, theres also a reality bite situation where hes going to come in and hes to going have no money to spend and theyre being very, very cautious about saying were not going turn on the going to just turn on the borrowing that is borrowing taps because that is part us in this part of what got us in this problem in the first place. The thing is, anyone who so the thing is, anyone who wins the election will have wins the next election will have a problem of not a massive problem of just not having much money to play with now moving on quite neatly. Now and moving on quite neatly. Now, andy, to your first choice is already the front page now, andy, to your first ch the is already the front page now, andy, to your first ch the telegraph. The front page now, andy, to your first ch the telegraph. Hereont page now, andy, to your first ch the telegraph. Here we page now, andy, to your first ch the telegraph. Here we go ge of the telegraph. Here we go again. Starmer has changed position, time on hs2. Position, this time on hs2. Well, he hasnt. He hasnt. I mean, hes an opponent mean, hes been an opponent since hs2. Since 2015. A since of hs2. Since 2015. A i mean, the story is that he will not resurrect hs2. This is what not resurrect hs2. This is what the telegraph is saying. This is based on quotes. Starmer made to regional tv. Based on quotes. Starmer made to regional tv. He says he cant stand here and commit to reversing the decision on hs2. Reversing the decision on hs2. The government have taken a wrecking ball to the project. Theres a massive hole in it, he says. Hes going to do exactly what sunak sunak is planning to do, the northern do, which is the Northern Powerhouse which powerhouse rail network, which is liverpool to is high speed from liverpool to leeds, and then improve services between manchester and and between manchester and hull and sheffield. Sheffield. But back to your previous story, Alistair Campbell and peter have Peter Mandelson would have been saying , yes, i agree with sunak saying, yes, i agree with sunak that been a bit beefier, that had been a bit beefier, wouldnt that had been a bit beefier, wotlts t that had been a bit beefier, wotlts not that had been a bit beefier, wot its not exactly that had been a bit beefier, wotlts not exactly going to its not exactly going to make thats all he make headlines if thats all he says first big speech. Says in his first big speech. But i think this is but no, but i think this is one line from regional tv one line from a regional tv interview. Think that you will interview. I think that you will have a broader, policy. Have a broader, wider policy. But telegraph is absolutely but the telegraph is absolutely right on in the right to jump on this in the position where sunaks been absolutely eviscerated by the labour for hs2 quite labour party for hs2 and quite rightly think people on rightly so. I think people on this would agree that this show would agree that theres wrong with theres a lot gone wrong with hs2, starmer going a hs2, but hes starmer going in a different no, not different well, no, hes not going to do any different. The as weve talked about, the cupboard bare has been cupboard is bare hs2 has been badly it probably should badly run. It probably should have north have started in the north etcetera. Huge problems etcetera. Theres huge problems with south west transport, with with south west transport, huge across the east huge problems across the east and north. That money probably should have been spent somewhere else and sam talking about else and sam was talking about spending exactly. Spending it exactly. Those places. No different spending it exactly. Those pl. Sunak no different spending it exactly. Those pl. Sunak. No different to sunak. Okay. Anna Suella Braverman is saying, i think in the express that she feels theres a growing appetite now for ditching the European Court of human rights. Yeah, and the express have done a theyre reporting a poll which has been carried out that says that theres a groundswell of support among tory voters and even labour voters to leave the echr, which is actually quite a surprise because whenever we, for example, at the mail on sunday have done polling on this, the majority do tend to actually support staying in the echr. Echr. Its not been a massive its not been a policy. The opinion polls have hugely supported. Of course , among tory members. Its course, among tory members. Its been extremely popular and Suella Braverman absolutely pleased the crowd , lets put it pleased the crowd, lets put it that way. At tory conference when she talked about all of this. But i mean, the slight caveat is that the poll has been carried out for the new conservatives, which is a group thatis conservatives, which is a group that is very, very pro all of this. This. Yeah, so, so right wing poll proves right wing position in echr hating paper. Having said that, though, dont you think its about time that we start to see a bit of clear blue water between what the conservatives and the labour party stand for and the labour party stand for and hopefully well see a bit more of that weekend in more of that at the weekend in liverpool the labour party. Absolutely. And think that is i mean and i think that is i mean that definitely a lot that is definitely where a lot of the conservative ministers calling this are coming calling for this are coming from. A wedge from. Its a wedge issue. Yeah, mean, its yeah, i mean, its interesting about the interesting you talk about the clear water between the clear blue water between the two, but how are we to going have a decent general election if see bit more clear if we dont see a bit more clear blue water . I totally agree. And thats i feel, dont blue water . I totally agree. And that that i feel, dont blue water . I totally agree. And that that keir feel, dont blue water . I totally agree. And that that keir starmerdont blue water . I totally agree. And that that keir starmerdongot you, that keir starmer has got to come out with something. We can grab hold and say, well, can grab hold of and say, well, i believe in i do i dont believe in that or i do believe in that. Hes got to appeal to labour grass roots. Yeah, the splinters need to come of backsides, dont come out of backsides, dont they . Think i think its they . I think i think its tactically right thing tactically the right thing to have the conservative have allowed the conservative government after government to make mistake after mistake. You dont interrupt your when making your enemy when theyre making a mistake. This this week is mistake. But this this week is going see were going to have going to see were going to have to something starmer. To see something of starmer. Us to brushing which brings us to brushing our keir starmer has our teeth. Now keir starmer has come he thinks come out saying that he thinks the way to with the the only way to help with the terrible dentist problem terrible dental dentist problem weve got within the nhs is to actually the state of actually improve the state of the nations teeth so that we actually dont need the dentists. Much anymore. And dentists. So much anymore. And so is advocating that so he is advocating that we should lessons in primary should have lessons in Primary Schools on how to brush your teeth and by the sound of it, he is actually advocating that teachers stand over children whilst they do it. What do we think of that . Im not sure about the mechanics of this, whether its going to be they have to stand over them every single day while they teeth. Im sure they brush their teeth. Im sure teachers already strike teachers are already on strike about work, too much about too much work, too much too arent going to be too low, pay arent going to be happy about trying to corral 30 children around. Not very many children around. Not very many sinks brush their sinks and try and brush their teeth. Think the really teeth. I think having the really appalling if you appalling thing is that if you speak Primary School speak to any Primary School teachers, talking teachers, theyre talking about children that children arriving at school that are incontinent, do are incontinent, that cant do basic reading writing. They basic reading and writing. They cant their own they cant say their own name, they cant say their own name, they cant knife and fork, cant hold a knife and fork, cant hold a knife and fork, cant a knife fork and cant hold a knife and fork and its and good us being its all well and good us being from sort of nice, balanced homes where we brush our teeth there appallingly children there are appallingly children around that arent around the country that arent being skills. Around the country that arent beiiand skills. Around the country that arent beiiand people skills. Around the country that arent beiiand people on ills. Around the country that arent beiiand people on the. Around the country that arent beiiand people on the one hand and people on the one hand might say this is like nanny state but mrs. State gone mad. But my mrs. Works in a at nursery level in a school in a comprehensive and i think is a great idea think this is a great idea because i know she sees because i you know she sees children the who dont children all the time who dont have those skills. The have those life skills. The parents are either disinterested or havent been on or they havent been hands on enough. With enough. They lost contact with dentistry during covid lockdowns. This is a lockdowns. I think this is a good idea. I really do. I think its a great idea. I think its a great idea. Im interested in the mechanics of whether its like or of it, whether its like 1 or 2 lessons a year about personal hygiene and brushing teeth. Fine. Know its fine. I dont know whether its teachers to ensure. Teachers having to ensure. You were a teacher, and if you were a teacher, wouldnt fed up wouldnt you be really fed up that another parental that yet another parental responsibility being laid responsibility is being laid on you . You . Yeah, think and i think yeah, i think and i think thats massive problem that thats a massive problem that not are talking not enough people are talking about are about because teachers are not only now, theyre only teachers now, theyre also police theyre social police men. Theyre also social workers. Theyre workers. Theyre also theyre also lot, much more also getting a lot, much more from parents. But on the from pushy parents. But on the teeth thing , i also i mean, teeth thing, i also i mean, i think it is very nanny state, but there is actually a proven link between little kids as young as even one who dont learn how to brush their teeth and then Health Outcomes for the rest of their life and not just teeth. And theyre all having read balls and junk on the way to school anyway. And if they do, do their teeth. Im anna mickleover. Andy jones. Superb paper review. Thank very well, yes. Thank you very much. Well, yes. And its time for you to get in touch with us and tell you tell us what think to. So tell us what you think to. So its ever gb views at its as ever gb views at cbnnews. Com reminder of cbnnews. Com 645. A reminder of our today. Have our top story today. Labour have won rutherglen hamilton won the rutherglen and Hamilton West the seat west by election, took the seat from the snp in scotland. Were from the snp in scotland. Were going to be speaking to shadow chief secretary to treasury, chief secretary to the treasury, pat a little later and pat mcfadden, a little later and a man who broke into Windsor Castle armed with a loaded crossbow to kill the late queen has sentenced to nine years has been sentenced to nine years in jail for the crime of treason. And students at Exeter University can now study the roots of spells as part of a new degree in magic , a great idea degree in magic, a great idea for the harry potter generation. A. Well, andy and anna still. A. Well, andy and anna still with us. What do we think of a magic degree . I think its definitely worse. Degrees out there, but we could do with a bit of magic for the economy. I dont know whether it would quite work out like that. We did a bit a few do a bit of card tricks on this show. It seems on the face of it a bit, sort of mickey mouse ish as a degree. But do you bit, sort of mickey mouse ish as a degree. But do you think it might actually turn out to be a rather more interesting maybe . I bet. I bet theres maths involved. Yeah to be a good magician. Dont in july, rishi i dont know. In july, rishi sunak more mickey mouse sunak said no more mickey mouse degrees. Study how degrees. Now you can study how to harry potter. To be harry potter. But you and know, yes, but you and i know, i mean, i think we probably all got examples of degrees that once upon time might have been once upon a time might have been dismissed but dismissed as mickey mouse, but actually have done very, very well. I remember hearing about a girl who a degree in golf girl who did a degree in Golf Course Management and at the time, this is a good ten years. At the time, people were saying Golf Course Management forever and sake. Can that be and sake. How can that be a degree course shes off going all over world now, building degree course shes off going all ocourses. Vorld now, building golf courses. A of mine did fluid a friend of mine did fluid dynamics and i was like, what are you doing that for, you loser . A loser . Hes now a multi millionaire. He does. Multi millionaire. And he does. He conditioning he installs air conditioning across hes minted. I hope you didnt say that to him. Any other any other good examples of what might have been mickey degrees one mickey mouse degrees at one point . Yeah. Doing golf theres people doing golf course at my course management at my university and university in bournemouth and you transferable you just got no transferable skills. Think there skills. I definitely think there are people that are too many people that are going to something going to uni to do something that they and ended up with a qualification thats absolutely useless. Cant unless useless. I cant unless you become a magician. I cant believe people seeing believe that many people seeing a major action on a degree, but it will be a talker from a cv. Imagine being an employer getting that. Yes, its going to make you stand out. It would be. But the huge problem youve got is most cvs now are processed by algorithm. And not even going to and so youre not even going to get picked a human being get picked up by a human being because youve got, was it, because youve got, what was it, magician, that true . Magician, or is that true . Absolutely. Most absolutely. Most, most, most employers now youve got thousands of cvs. I is the one thousands of cvs. I is the one that you will choose. Im on reducing it a little bit, but you will choose the key terms that youre looking for, i dont know, creative, dynamic Hospitality Management degree or something in that area. And then i will pull out of these are the top 100 and then youll have a human go through human being, then go through them. Youve got, you them. So if youve got, you know, magic and conjuring tricks or youre not going or something, youre not going to pulled out by all of the to be pulled out by all of the time and effort you put in with your aged children your university aged children trying get them to build trying to get them to build a really cv and a personal statement. It takes weeks of angst. It takes weeks of angst. Yeah, its actually being algorithm out of it. Algorithm out of it. Yeah. You want to you want to get your computer check in the cvs rather than i think cvs rather than you. And i think its think terry frustrating. Its i think terry frustrating. See the thing i think about the magic degree it might involve just involve things not just like conjuring Event Management conjuring but Event Management how on shows, how to how to put on shows, how to organise , you know, teams of organise, you know, teams of people to to, go and put a magic show on tour. For instance, these are very useful rabbit care , transferable skills. Care, transferable skills. So how to make people disappear might be quite handy. Yes, i think that would be very handy. Very true. Can we talk about kevin keegan and whether or not he had a point . Youll have to explain what he said. Martin yeah. So kevin keegan said that he doesnt like lady commentators commentating on the mens game if they dont have the experience at that playing level such as International Duty or the fa cup, he said its not. He didnt necessarily say its because theyre women, because they theyre women, its because they dont relevant dont have the relevant experience being called a experience. Hes being called a dinosaur. I think got dinosaur. I think hes got a point. Andy yeah, i think its absolutely imperative that we make a clear difference. He say i dont like he didnt say i dont like womens women womens opinions. Women shouldnt football. Womens opinions. Women sh0lstop. Football. Womens opinions. Women sh0lstop. His football. Womens opinions. Women sh0lstop. His position otball. Womens opinions. Women sh0lstop. His position wasxll. Womens opinions. Women sh0lstop. His position was when full stop. His position was when youre talking about the highly prestigious front of prestigious games in front of however of however many hundreds of thousands of people, the pressure involved that a lot pressure involved is that a lot of female pundits, they of the female pundits, they havent at that havent got experience at that level, a player at level, much as if a player at a lower league level, you perhaps wouldnt have about the wouldnt have talking about the world because havent World Cup Final because havent played at that level. Think played at that level. I think that entitled to that opinion is entitled to express think, express that opinion. I think, you you at the first you know, you look at the first week of the premier league week end of the premier league for Football League for the womens Football League , attendances arent , i think the attendances arent as there was a 50,000 as big, but there was a 50,000 attendance between arsenal and liverpool, womens world cup liverpool, the womens world cup final liverpool, the womens World Cup Final, euro finals final, the womens euro finals now pretty, know , big now are pretty, you know, big ticket 100,000 people ticket events, 100,000 people watching stadium. But i watching in the stadium. But i think keegans allowed to express his opinion and i think there definitely an element there definitely is an element of sometimes catch someone of you sometimes catch someone on air talking about something and well, maybe you and i think, well, maybe you havent at that highest havent played at that highest level. Had level. Maybe you havent had that pressure perform in the that pressure to perform in the way that some of the top mens prefer as well. I think what hes actually said here is he doesnt like it when, as he calls them, ladies and ladies, who hes not saying they shouldnt be lady pundits, but he doesnt like it when they say, if i on the pitch, i say, if i were on the pitch, i would have this that. Would have done this and that. And a lot of fans will and i think a lot of fans will probably i mean, he was talking about when women are about sometimes when women are talking about the mens game, they same depth they dont have the same depth of that some of the of experience that some of the male commentators. That said, of male commentators. That said, of course, lots pundits dont course, lots of pundits dont dont have a lot of experience and a lot of areas they talk about. Maybe its just something that will time will that time will time will cure. And took a lot of and they took a lot of context of because if you context out of it because if you look the full interview that look at the full interview that you a spoken event. You gave, it was a spoken event. It wasnt. It was like an after dinner speech. And he said that there are some women there are some superb women commentators. Talks about commentators. He talks about gabby Gabby Logan Gabby yorath and gabby logan as being the being better than most of the guys. Talks about joining in guys. He talks about joining in a football match where a womens football match where he ball because he couldnt get the ball because they than him, he they were better than him, so he wasnt actually being a complete blank dinosaur, blank retrograde dinosaur, sexist. He made sexist. So and so he just made this point been this one point thats been jumped on. Experience jumped on. But experience counts. Be about counts. It shouldnt be about genden counts. It shouldnt be about gender. Its just about have you got the authority to talk . Thats where i think maybe time will tell. Just give it a couple years and we wont couple more years and we wont even questioning or at even be questioning it. Or at least shouldnt. Can i talk least we shouldnt. Can i talk about the front of time about the front cover of Time Magazine . Because i think magazine . Yes because i think weve got a picture of it, havent we . Oh, Time Magazine has been around forever and its chosen to talk about its 9 or 10 biggest movers and shakers. Trailblazer political trailblazers globally. And they have chosen an humza yousaf there who is leader of the snp who has just massively lost by election and yet they are claiming him then to be a next generation leader. Its a really weird photograph for a start. Look at the what do we think . I think its a case of an American Newsdesk wrapped ridley looking around for Something Interesting from abroad and landing on mr yousuf and calling him a sort of political giant. I dont think humza yousaf has even got much clout across britain. In some ways. I dont seek to diminish the snp, but again the a lot of mess with sturgeon , a lot mess that we sturgeon, a lot of mess that we saw last night and im not sure i its one of these sort i think its one of these sort of things he looks into of things where he looks into national and interesting when youre an american desk. Youre on an American News desk. Hailing well, theyre hailing him as the muslim leader a the first muslim leader of a western country. Yeah. Yeah. So theyre singling him out yeah. His theyre singling him out yeah. His hislre singling him out yeah. His his his singling him out yeah. His his his faithing him out yeah. His his his faith as him out yeah. His his his faith as the] out for his his his faith as the kind of usp which i think in itself is a bit of a why would you do that . Its that as an achievement, isnt it . Rather than about him as a him, as an individual or as as a him, as an individual or as a man. But theyre saying hes one to and look what happened to watch. And look what happened last night. To watch. And look what happened lasiwell,t. To watch. And look what happened lasiwell, timing is everything in well, timing is everything in politics journalism, politics and journalism, frankly. Curious one. Frankly. So its a curious one. Lets that way. Frankly. So its a curious one. Letwhat that way. Frankly. So its a curious one. Letwhat do hat way. Frankly. So its a curious one. Letwhat do you nay. Frankly. So its a curious one. Letwhat do you think of the what do you think of the future of the snp now and what last be last nights result may be telling last nights result may be tellllg last nights result may be telli think its telling us that i think its telling us that labours possibly going to do pretty well in scotland and therefore now suddenly on therefore is now suddenly on track a majority. Track for a majority. Interesting, weve got its interesting, weve got pat mcfadden from labour on the its interesting, weve got pat min adden from labour on the its interesting, weve got pat min ad bit| from labour on the its interesting, weve got pat min ad bit andn labour on the its interesting, weve got pat min ad bit and imibour on the its interesting, weve got pat minadbit and im reallynn the show in a bit and im really keen to talk to him about the fact that back in february starmer had said no deals with fact that back in february sta|snp. 1ad said no deals with fact that back in february sta|snp. We said no deals with fact that back in february sta|snp. We know10 deals with fact that back in february sta|snp. We know whatils with fact that back in february sta|snp. We know what thatith the snp. We know what that meant. They would do a deal with the if there a hung the snp if there was a Hung Parliament, but its looking now though, night though, and after last night that labour wont be that the labour party wont be needing rely on the if it needing to rely on the snp if it carries this, theyll be carries on like this, theyll be cleaning the border cleaning up north of the border without snp. Yeah, its without the snp. Yeah, its scotland will be absolutely key for next and if for the next election and if labour replicate last labour can replicate last nights and they are on nights swing and they are on track for about 20 seats in scotland now normally we say you cant extrapolate from a by election, but scotlands different isnt it . It is. I think you can test the water much easier in scotland than you can in certain other parts of the uk. I think it was sort of 20 to 40 seats or something. It was quite a big swing, wasnt it . But but this is the first time im on the first proper acid test of scotland. And also were talking scotland. And also were talking about got any about starmer hasnt got any policies thats policies and very often thats very centred very english centred and westminster again, very english centred and we need ster again, very english centred and we need to r again, very english centred and we need to hear again, very english centred and we need to hear what again, very english centred and we need to hear what hes gain, very english centred and we need to hear what hes going we need to hear what hes going to doing in scotland. We have to be doing in scotland. We have to be doing in scotland. We have to be doing in scotland. We have to be hearing what hes going to be doing the country. Be doing around the country. Theres about the snp. Theres a lot about the snp. Were hearing about were not hearing a lot about what starmer wants. Anna, another theres also anna, another fascinating point night, fascinating point last night, a collapse 30, collapse in turnout to 30, decrease turnout, 37 of decrease in turnout, only 37 of people to a polling people made it to a polling booth versus 66. 5. 2019 by elections typically are always a bit lower. Bert is the none of the above party out there is the ennui. The above party out there is the ennui. Is the above party out there is the ennui. Is the apathy going to be ennui. Is the apathy going to be a factor . A factor . Really agree with i dont really agree with that. Afraid low. That. Im afraid its low. Obviously it sounds low, but for a by election, its not that low. Okey dokey. Okay. Okey dokey. Okay. Well, thanks for getting in touch with your views. John says last shows rishi sunak last night shows rishi sunak hasnt a in hell of hasnt got a hope in hell of winning next election. And winning the next election. And dean the dean says, well, thats the tories finished the next tories finished for the next general isnt it . Tories finished for the next geryeah isnt it . Tories finished for the next geryeah , isnt it . Tories finished for the next geryeah , peopleisnt it . Tories finished for the next geryeah , people arent . Yeah, people arent very positive at all about about whats happened for the tories, although i think, you know , to although i think, you know, to russias credit, i think he did put some meat on the bone this week in manchester. I think people now know what they stand for hoping more. For and im hoping for more. Thats weve got to thats what weve got to labour and its Labour Party Labour and its not long until till we get long now until we till we get hopefully us medals. Hopefully show us your medals. What for anyway . What do you stand for anyway . Do keep in touch with with your views wont you . Because as even your views wont you . Because as ever, always enjoy reading ever, we always enjoy reading them. Right ever, we always enjoy reading themyoull right ever, we always enjoy reading them youll want right ever, we always enjoy reading them youll want to right ever, we always enjoy reading themyoull want to know right ever, we always enjoy reading them youll want to know whats1t now. Youll want to know whats happening with the weather. Here it is. Hello. Very good morning to you. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the met office with the gb news and news forecast that a fine and warm come in the south. Warm day to come in the south. But cloudy and breezy elsewhere with rain in with outbreaks of rain in places. Mostly these central parts of southern scotland , parts of southern scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and north wales , where england and north wales, where well see the wettest conditions. The rain, heavy and persistent over the hills. I think north of the central belt, there will be some brightness after initial rain but it will be rain clears away, but it will be windy and much cooler here with that coming from north that wind coming from the north for north of scotland, for the far north of scotland, along a few showers. So 13 along with a few showers. So 13 celsius, example. But in the celsius, for example. But in the south, thats where the south, well, thats where the sunshine be at its warmest sunshine will be at its warmest with temperatures here of 20 to 23, perhaps 24 celsius. We keep some of that warmth into the evening and overnight. Certainly a breezy night and a cloudy night for many. So temperatures arent to fall far for the arent going to fall far for the Northern Isles. Were going to see a strong wind see showers and a strong wind from exposed from the north, gales in exposed parts. But for rest of parts. But for the rest of scotland , actually, its scotland, actually, its increasingly wet by dawn with some heavy rain turning up, especially in the west of scotland, elsewhere across the especially in the west of scoi some elsewhere across the especially in the west of scoi some low where across the especially in the west of scoisome low clouds, cross the especially in the west of scoisome low clouds, somehe uk, some low clouds, some mistiness first thing this weekend, it will lift fairly weekend, but it will lift fairly quickly and sunshine will develop widely across england and wales, the far north of england. Seeing a wet start perhaps, but the rain should ease off into the afternoon. Northern seeing some Northern Ireland seeing some hazy for the hazy sunshine, but for the central belt north into northern parts of mainland scotland, its going to be very wet through saturday with the risk of localised flooding. 24 celsius saturday with the risk of l0 theed flooding. 24 celsius saturday with the risk of l0 the south. Iding. 24 celsius in the south. Oh joy, very wet. Thats all we need, isnt it . Ill have to get my patio cushions in. Ive got some hang in there getting very, very wet. Soggy. Soggy. Soggy. Got some points. A quick one from andy in dorset on raf scampton saying the government shouldnt be making to shouldnt be making efforts to house migrants but should be making remove making efforts to remove them and boats. And stop the boats. Yes, but how . Yes, but how . Thats the point. Ron says on the same subject. Youve got to rain someones parade. Rain on someones parade. If not scampton , then elses. Scampton, then somebody elses. You please all the folk you cant please all the folk all the time. And a lot of all the time. And a lot of people getting in good morning. Its 7 00 on friday, the 6th of october. Today labour have won the rutherglen and Hamilton West by election in scotland and took the seat from the snp. The seat from the snp. It feels incredible to represent the community that i live in, the community that i love, but also i do feel the responsibility of the thousands of people that have put their trust in me. This is the absolutely extraordinary result, absolutely extraordinary result, a seismic result, and i think this will send shockwaves through snp and shadow chief through the snp and shadow chief secretary to the treasury. Pat mcfadden will be joining us shortly to talk about that victory overnight. But also the home office is continuing to convert the former raf base at scampton into a camp for Asylum Seekers , despite being told to seekers, despite being told to stop work immediately. Stop work immediately. I clocked in one hour between half, six and half seven in the morning and 47 vehicles going on. The morning and 47 vehicles going on. The people that are making the laws are breaking the laws and so were taking it upon ourselves to make sure that we document that they are breaking the law. The law. Students at Exeter University can now study spells as part of a new degree in magic. What do you think of that . You think of that . And of course, aiden has your weather as we approach the weekend. Its a significant contrast across the uk. Very warm for many this weekend, but very wet in some places. Find out all the details in the forecast coming up soon. And here with your sport, paul coyte. Paul coyte. Generally a good night in europe for british sides. It is a tale of two world cups cricket, world cup disastrous for england yesterday and its make or break for ireland and scotland in the Rugby World Cup tomorrow. Tomorrow. And its lovely to be with you this morning. Im anne diamond. And im Martin Daubney. This is breakfast on. Gb news very is breakfast on. Gb news very interesting this on brushing your teeth because sir keir starmer has said that if labour get in, theyre going to bring in teeth brushing lessons into our schools. Our schools. Were not quite sure how it would work, but he says its probably would work, but he says its they will try and tackle the problem with dentistry, particularly within the nhs. Particularly within the nhs. There arent enough nhs dentists and the state of our childrens teeth is appalling. So teach how to brush teeth in school and graham says hi graham in the 70s we were taught how to brush our teeth in school we were given a purple tablet to show how the plaque was in our teeth. Its plaque was in our teeth. Its not a new idea, but its a very good one. I remember that i remember we had that. So yeah, you also remember we used to get milk in schools. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. I used to love a little glass of a little bottle of milk with a straw. Then of course, maggie thatcher, they were third pints. Yes. Thatcher. Milk snatcher. Milk maggie thatcher. Milk snatcher. To love the snatcher. I used to love the milk in school, but we also clean our teeth aftennards. Maybe they it right in the maybe they had it right in the old days. With so many things. Well, with so many things. Yeah. Keep views yeah. Anyway keep your views coming in. Views at cbnnews. Com. Our top story. Labour has won the Hamilton West the rutherglen and Hamilton West by election saw by election as a 20 swing. Saw michael the seat Michael Shanks take the seat from the snp. Well, the scottish seat was vacated, if you remember when Margaret Ferrier was suspended from house of commons for from the house of commons for breaching covid rules and that led in the end to a recall petition and commenting after the announcement, labour leader keir said the people in keir starmer said the people in rutherglen and Hamilton West have sent a clear message it is time for change and speaking after that result, then the new mp for rutherglen and Hamilton West, Michael Shanks, had this to say. It feels incredible to represent the community that i live in. The community that i love, but also i do feel the responsibility of thousands of people that have put their trust in me. Ive met many of these people over the past six months. Its long its been a very long by election i know by election campaign. And i know a lot of the aspirations, the challenges that theyve raised with and now theyve put with me and now theyve put their on their trust in me to deliver on that. And thats thats the hard work. Ahead us. Work. Thats ahead of us. This absolutely this is the absolutely extraordinary seismic extraordinary result, a seismic result. Think this will result. And i think this will send shockwaves through the snp. And moment in and a historic moment in scottish politics. Think scottish politics. I think scottish politics. I think scottish politics is fundamentally tonight. Fundamentally changed tonight. The of rutherglen, the people of rutherglen, Hamilton West demonstrated Hamilton West have demonstrated that scotland are sick of two failing governments. They want the incompetence, the chaos and the incompetence, the chaos and the division to come to an end and theyre desperate for change and theyre desperate for change and theyre desperate for change and they can that that and they can now see that that vehicle for change is with the Scottish Labour Party. Well, congratulations and commiserations and celebrating all round, i imagine. Lets speak, though, to our Deputy Deputy Political Editor, tom hannood. Yeah, they called it hannood. Yeah, they called it a seismic change, but you were arguing just an hour ago that its really not as seismic as they would have you believe. Uh, well, there are some certain crucial local factors to this seat of course, the context in which this by election has been held cannot be forgotten. The extraordinary breaches of covid rules that Margaret Ferrier, the former mp , ferrier, the former mp, committed. And of course, the fact that this is the first recall by election to have ever taken place in scotland. Of course, weve seen some recall by elections in england. This is the first one to have taken place. And what do you mean by scotland . And that is that when an mp is suspended from the house for more than ten days, when the when an mp is sent to prison or Something Else like that, there is the opportunity. Now since the changed the Coalition Government changed the Coalition Government changed the a petition of a the law that a petition of a percentage of constituents in that seat can force a by election 11, 1,011. 11, 1,011. Its 10. 11, 1,011. Its10. Once 11, 1,011. Its 10. Once you 11, 1,011. Its10. Once you get 11, 1,011. Its 10. Once you get over that 10 mark of all electors. That 10 mark of all electors. And so what happens in the case of getting that of getting that recall petition up and running, is parties generally go door to door getting people to sign that recall petition. And that means recall petition. And that means that they get good data on that seat. Its like a pre canvassing event. Its almost as if this by election has been running for a very, very long time. So the labour party selected their candidate, Michael Shanks, quite a while ago, well before the writs was moved in parliament for this by election and theyve been working the streets for a long time. But the other thing to note, of course, is that this was a must win for the labour party. We know the labour party party. We know the labour party is significantly ahead the is significantly ahead in the polls right now. If they didnt polls right now. If they didnt win this seat, people would start to question that poll lead what by election victory what this by election victory has done is confirm their poll lead and indeed show that this is a labour party that can win seats. One caveat this was a seats. One caveat this was a seat that was won by Jeremy Corbyn back in 2017. It has flip flopped between the labour party and the snp in the most recent, for it is a humiliation here for the snp, isnt it . And if that pattern is followed throughout scotland, it would appear that labour will profit. Labour will do best. Profit. Labour will do best. Certainly now the 20 point swing is more than people had expected. So. So for hamza yusuf , this so. So for hamza yusuf, this is not a good night. This is his first electoral test as snp leader. Now there will be questions thrown at the snp to what extent does the scandal surround adding the missing money and the arrest and then release of people like Nicola Sturgeon, of people like her husband and the treasurer of the snp or the former treasurer of the snp as well . What extent the snp as well . To what extent has that played into this to has that played into this or to what extent has Humza Yousafs leadership of the snp played into but of course into this loss . But of course this was a seat that did flip flop between the snp and the labour party. I think we might need to see 1 or 2 more by elections in perhaps deeper snp territory to see just how wide the scale of labour recover in scotland might be. They did well 58 of the vote, but very low turnout. People didnt see motivated by any of the party as at all. 37 turnout versus 66 at the general. The big question, though, is theres been a long talk about will there be a deal between the snp and the labour party in the event of a Hung Parliament at a general election. Starmer has always said he wouldnt do it, which as you he wouldnt do you know, means he wouldnt do it there was hung it if there was a Hung Parliament. Does this result have in that, do have a significance in that, do you think . Its we should never i think its we should never underestimate rivalry i think its we should never underest the e rivalry i think its we should never underest the scottish alry i think its we should never underest the scottish labour between the Scottish Labour Party and the snp. Theyre bitter rivals of course, in scotland we saw in 2015 almost every labour mp, every labour mp but one be wiped out by the wave of new snp seats. There was a of new snp seats. There was a slight recovery in 2017 and then it went back, but these are bitterly fought contests and what the labour party has always said about working with the snp is that they wouldnt go into a formal coalition in event of formal coalition in the event of a Hung Parliament, but what they would do is put fonnard a budget out or put fonnard a kings speech which and almost challenge the snp to not vote for that, because if they didnt, then that would force into another election. It could mean that the conservatives came to power and the snp would say, oh, we wouldnt do anything to put the conservatives in power. So thered be questions about what the scenes, what goes on behind the scenes, the negotiations, the little negotiations, so that the little negotiations, so that the vote for labour the snp would vote for labour bills. Of course a very bills. But of course a very messy in event of messy situation in the event of a parliament. Have a Hung Parliament. I have to say, if the polls are right and the by election does look like this , we arent looking at this, we arent looking at a Hung Parliament that scenario. As things stand now, things can always narrow in the next 12 months. But as things stand, were looking at a healthy labour majority. I tell labour majority. Well, i tell you what, weve got pat mcfadden on i think we can go to him now. I think we can go to him now. His shadow secretary his shadow chief secretary to the treasury good morning the treasury a very good morning to i suppose should to you and i suppose we should get congratulations out of to you and i suppose we should get waycongratulations out of to you and i suppose we should get way first, atulations out of to you and i suppose we should get way first, haventls out of to you and i suppose we should get way first, havent we . T of to you and i suppose we should get way first, havent we . How the way first, havent we . How do you feel about labours success last night . Success last night . Well , i success last night . Well, i think this is a great result and also an important result and also an important result. This is much result and also an important result. This is much more important than a normal by election win for an opposition party. Its a signal of a real desire to for change in scotland and from the voters of rutherglen and Hamilton West. And i think from voters in many similar constituencies when they get the chance this is a cry for change. A protest against two governments that have failed voters in rutherglen and Hamilton West, the snp government in scotland has been. In office now for six teen years. Change. In office now for six teen years. Change and. In office now for six teen years. Change and the desire for years. Change and the desire for a fresh start was really clear in that emphatic by election result last night. Result last night. Now pat, your old mates Alistair Campbell and Peter Mandelson are on the front of the guardian today urging labour to be bold. We need to see policy. We need to see detail. Policy. We need to see detail. We need to see. You guys talked about it. Mandy saying he doesnt think sir keir starmer is ready for government. Looking is ready for government. Looking ahead to your conference, which starts on sunday liverpool , starts on sunday in liverpool, can we expect to see that detail , that clarity, that policy that voters need to make their minds up between the tories and the labour party . Labour party . Well, im always in favour of learning from the past eras, from the new labour era. I was part of that myself. So so, you know, its always important to learn from past victories. And i learn from past victories. And i think that we should learn from past victories as and we go into our conference in a confident frame of mind, but also we know the scale of the challenge after the scale of the challenge after the last election. Weve changed the last election. Weve changed the labour party. Its now a very Different Force from the one that was offered to the electorate a few years ago. Keir starmer has driven that change and made clear that that was his initial project and now the project is to lay out in front of the country the kind of policies that labour would put in place were to we win the next election, the next step in doing thatis election, the next step in doing that is our conference, which starts this weekend in liverpool. So youll see a policy rich conference. Yes, and one that will make clear that as the country wants change, the only people who can deliver that change are the labour party. Change are the labour party. Youre a scot yourself, obviously. I wonder what you obviously. I wonder what you feel about the future of the snp. D0 feel about the future of the snp. Do you think this is the beginning of the end . Beginning of the end . I dont know that i think the best future for scotland is with a change of government, with a Labour Government and in time with a Labour Government in scotland to and the message from the emphatic by election result last night is that the people of scotland want change. Im just back from rutherglen. I spent two days on the doorstep there this week and thats what voters were telling me on the doorstep. And weve heard that message loud and clear. Theyve made their views known, but now weve got to build on that to make sure that when the election comes , we can win the trust of comes, we can win the trust of the people and start to implement the kind of change that people want. That people want. Now, pat, one of the one of the, i think, poorjokes that the, i think, poor jokes that the, i think, poor jokes that the Tory Party Conference was the Tory Party Conference was the flip flops. Keir starmer flip flopping. And yet we see on the front of the Daily Telegraph today that keir starmer will fall line with rishi sunak fall into line with rishi sunak he will not bring to back to life putting him on a collision course with andy burnham in manchester. And i guess what the point is, what do you say to people who seem to believe that keir starmer just changes position with wind . Position with the wind . Well, i thought it was a bit ironic. The conservative party making so much out of that when the central position of their own conference was an enormous u turn on hs2 and the re announcement of a bunch of rail projects that have been announced many, many times , but announced many, many times, but which the conservative party has failed to deliver the whole story of hs2 has been a tory fiasco , and like any opposition fiasco, and like any opposition in approaching an election, what you have to do is look at the situation that you inherit, not the one that youd wish to inherit, the one that you inhent inherit, the one that you inherit and as with hs2, many other things will fall into that bracket and we will have to take the situation that we inherit and build from there. This is a tory fiasco. We will have to tory fiasco. We will have to pick up the pieces and put together a good transport plan for the country. And thats exactly what we intend to do. But you cant win an election just by picking up on the narrative already being spoken by the government at the moment. The tory government. Youve got to Say Something new, havent you . You said it would be a policy rich conference, but we need real as they say in politics, clear blue water between what voters will see attractive in you and what they may see attractive in a tory government. Will we see that clear blue. Water clear blue. Water well, maybe clear red water, but i can give you an example. Today weve announced weve announced a new plan to address the crisis in nhs dentistry. Today where weve got. 5 million today where weve got. 5 Million People whove been unable to get a dentist appointment over the past couple of years. Weve got a real crisis in dental health among children where weve had 40,000 children admitted to hospital with decaying teeth and having to have operations to have teeth removed. Were have teeth removed. Were putting fonnard a plan this morning as we go into our conference to address that crisis, to get nhs dentistry , crisis, to get nhs dentistry, particularly to the areas which needit particularly to the areas which need it most. This is the kind of policy we that will address theissues of policy we that will address the issues people are concerned about right now. And youll hear about right now. And youll hear a lot more like that over the coming week. Coming week. Its interesting, maybe the position on hs2 is one of pragmatism, one of realism on that note that liam byrne famously left david cameron. Im sorry, theres no money left. National debt then was only a mere 800 billion. Now you guys could inherit 2. 6 trillion of national debt. Is the realisation kicking in that all of the great ideas you guys have, you simply wont be able to afford them . To afford them . Well , youre to afford them . Well, youre right to point out that despite the conservatives rhetoric, debt has grown massively during their penod grown massively during their period in office. And its not just all down to covid, by the way. Much of that happened before the pandemic and what the whole story of the last 13 years and in particular that disastrous mini budget that liz truss and Kwasi Kwarteng did a year ago, which put rocket boosters under mortgage rates. Well, that whole story has underlined is the need for more Financial Stability and thats why my colleague , the shadow why my colleague, the shadow chancellor, rachel reeves, has been saying that Financial Stability will come before anything. So we know the country wants change. We know that people need hope for the future. But everything that we do will be upon the rock of be built upon the rock of Financial Stability because we saw the price of neglecting that last when in an ideological last year when in an ideological headrush the conservative party ran the economy over a cliff. We certainly dont propose to repeat that disaster for when the next election comes over your career, which goes way back, doesnt it . Right to down working with you as chair of the scottish labour students, i gather. But youve worked with some of the great names in im only getting started. Started. Yeah, youve worked with some of the great names like donald dewar, who i remember well, of course, john tony blair. Course, john smith, tony blair. As you go now into what is a really important make or break conference, we what would if you could take keir starmer and any of the others aside and give them one tip for success . What would it. Be would it. Be oh, for success. I think my tip would be if youre fortunate enough to win office and to hold office, to use that opportunity to make good change. Thats what people want. Thats the message from the by election result in rutherglen and Hamilton West last night. Rutherglen and Hamilton West last night. Time passes quickly for governments in office. You know, Boris Johnson got a majority of 80 just four years ago. And to be honest, just wasted it wasted the opportunity. He didnt deliver anything. So. He didnt deliver anything. So my advice to any leader is if you get the chance to govern , you get the chance to govern, make sure you use that opportunity to make good change. Okay. Pat mcfadden, thank you very much for joining okay. Pat mcfadden, thank you very much forjoining us on this very much for joining us on this morning. Well done. Well done, mate. And last night for joining us on breakfast. Thank you. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. Goodness, has worked my goodness, he has worked with some of the greats. Been around the block. With some of the greats. He been around the block. With some of the greats. He really] around the block. With some of the greats. He really has und the block. With some of the greats. He really has been he block. With some of the greats. He really has been around k. With some of the greats. He really has been around the block a great block and talking with a great scottish accent. Of course, after a great scottish win last night, must very good night, it must feel very good for right. Shall talk for him. Right. Shall we talk about whats going about scampton and whats going on in scampton . Because on in scampton . Because obviously, despite the fact that theyre being told not to go ahead and there have been Legal Notices , we know that work is notices, we know that work is going ahead at scampton. And that, of course, is the home, the former home of the dambusters squadron, the red arrows , the red arrows station arrows, the red arrows station there. And its a big sprawling raf base , which the government raf base, which the government has sort of earmarked for housing Illegal Migrants whilst theyre being processed. 2000 of them are going to be stationed there. The planning expires today. Will hollis has all the latest out home away from home. So this is a cooking area. So this is a cooking area. And then this is where we keep everything. So spares of everything, batteries, torches , everything, batteries, torches, tea, coffee, sugar, water. Sarah only lives a mile away on the other side of scampton. On the other side of scampton. Shes been living in a tent for a week, but her battle to stop Asylum Seekers moving into the old raaf base has lasted six months. The home office is preparing scampton to house 2000 Asylum Seekers. But now west Asylum Seekers. But now west Lindsey District Council has told the home office to stop work, saying its breaching planning restrictions. It served planning restrictions. It served an enforcement notice and a stop nofice an enforcement notice and a stop notice the same powers used to control a dodgy builder. But the Lincolnshire Council and Community Says contract fighters are ploughing on. I clocked in one hour between half, six and half seven in the morning and 47 vehicles going on. The morning and 47 vehicles going on. The people that are making the laws are breaking the laws and so were taking it upon ourselves to make sure that we document they are breaking document that they are breaking the law. The law. The home office is struggling to migrants to manage the number of migrants reaching britains shores. Old military bases are badged as a small solution for the growing problem. Westland District Council disagrees. A £300 council disagrees. A £300 million deal to transform the old base into a Heritage Centre was soaring. Now now its in freefall, according to the councils director of planning and regeneration, sally grindrod smith. We are very concerned about the conditions on site. The state of the site. Theres a huge amount of building eyes that are on that site that could come back into commercial use. Weve spoken previously about the runway and the airfield, which is a very valuable asset. In a statement , the home in a statement, the Home Office Said, we are aware that west Lindsey District Council hasissued west Lindsey District Council has issued a notice in relation to the works at scampton. We are to the works at scampton. We are carefully considering the implications of this notice. Implications of this notice. Bakhmut scampton support for the campaign isnt hard to come by. Its very noisy , but i its very noisy, but i normally sleep with a fan on anyway, even during the winter, so it doesnt bother me. The noise. Sarah and other locals are staying here until the end of october when a judicial review will decide if the home office plans for scampton base can go ahead outside. Locals are calling their makeshift camp dunkirk spirit people coming together. And the people coming together. And the worry is that inside the base, history is being torn apart. Will hollis gb news in scampton. Okay stirring stuff. Lets speak now to military historian and Defence Analyst chris newton. Good morning to you, chris. Thanks for joining us on breakfast. There have been other sites proposed around the uk, of course, wethersfield in essex, linton on us. But tell us about the special significance of scampton and why it has really brought that Community Together with that dunkirk spirit. Spirit. Good morning. Well, raf good morning. Well, raf scampton is best known for being the site of the dambusters 617 squadron this was the squadron squadron this was the squadron squadron that performed named the operation on the 16th 17th of may overnight. Right 1943, where they used these spinning bombs, these upkeep bouncing bombs, these upkeep bouncing bombs which bounced over the water and hit the three dams that they were targeting. And that they were targeting. And they breached two of the three dams that they were targeting at that night, causing mass flooding in the area. And disrupting the hydroelectricity in the area. And that in the area. And that hydroelectricity powered the steam steel mills that manufactured the german weapons. Its also , though, was the base its also, though, was the base of vulcan bombers during the cold war. And as you said earlier , the red arrows more earlier, the red arrows more recently. So it has a real significance in our in our history that operation is very iconic. It was captured in 1955 film. So so and a Aerospace Aviation is extremely important for that area as well. Its really an embedded part of that areas local areas history. Areas local areas history. And of course, that history is very poignant as well, isnt it . I mean, anyone whos seen the movie or studied the operation cant remember what it was called. Operation iron, a chastise , right . Yes. Thats chastise, right . Yes. Thats chastise, right . Yes. Thats chastise. I chastise, right . Yes. Thats chastise. I mean, chastise, right . Yes. Thats chastise. I mean, only half the chastise. I mean, only half the lads came home, didnt they . Lads came home, didnt they . Yeah. Yeah. 53 were killed. Yeah. Yeah. 53 were killed. And out of the original 133 and yes , it was a very risky yes, it was a very risky operation when it involved kind of low flying emissions in order to, to release the bombs and hits, hit the dams and also it caused devastation as well. And in the area, as i alluded to, kind of flooding. So its a very poignant operation. But but but poignant operation. But but but also, you know , an important one also, you know, an important one in terms of damaging the german war effort as well. And chris, that history, that heritage , that history, that heritage, that history, that heritage, that talismanic importance. That talismanic importance. Thats why the seeming desecration of this site to be repurposed as an Asylum Centre has caused such concern not just in the local community, but also nationally. Nationally. Yeah , i mean, its strange yeah, i mean, its strange because this week the governments been talking about the Culture Departments been talking about preserving our statues and monuments and maintaining them and theyve issued guidance about maintenance. So you have the Culture Department saying this on one hand and then theyre doing this to scampton. On the doing this to scampton. On the other hand, its not really joined up, is it really . So joined up, is it really . So yeah, and youre right, this, this is, you know, this has caused constant motion. Its caused constant motion. Its caused consternation among historians early in the year , a historians early in the year, a group of historians wrote a letter and, you know, asking the government to reconsider. And not use this as a as a site. And, yes. And it obviously it and, yes. And it obviously it has caused consternation among among the community as well. And theres been Widespread National support reporting about this as well. So this is really touched the media and the public. Well , thanks very much for well, thanks very much for giving us that sort of context. Its interesting to know. Chris newton, thanks very much indeed. Actually, adrians got in touch. Morning adrian we touch. Morning adrian says we need to be using all these derelict, unused raf bases and stop using hotels at the cost of £8 million a day. Yeah, its a fair point. That is a good point. It is a fair point. I mean, the kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place, arent the government because on the one hand they stop the boats. Hand they cant stop the boats. The thing thats stopping the only thing thats stopping the boats is the weather. The only theyve stopped the only boat theyve stopped is the bibby we have bibby stockholm. And so we have this problem. They have to this huge problem. They have to be somewhere whether like be put somewhere whether we like it and yeah, £8 million it or not. And yeah, £8 million a day on hotels, all this. But the significance of the cultural significance of this and whats made this and is whats really made people alarmed and upset people feel alarmed and upset because significant because it is so significant in our military historical past our military and historical past and for this, our military and historical past andreally for this, our military and historical past andreally rubbed for this, our military and historical past andreally rubbed up for this, our military and historical past andreally rubbed up locblsiis, our military and historical past andreally rubbed up locals the its really rubbed up locals the wrong way. Well, let us know what you think. As ever. Gb news. No, the other way round. Vaiews gbnews. Com heres your weather. Hello. Very good morning to you. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the met office with the gb news forecast. A fine and warm day to come in the south. But cloudy and breezy elsewhere with outbreaks places outbreaks of rain in places mostly the central parts of southern scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and north wales, where well see the wettest conditions. The rain, heavy and persistent over the hills. I heavy and persistent over the hills. I think north of the central belt, therell be some brightness after initial rain clears away, but it will be windy cooler here with windy and much cooler here with that wind coming from the north for north of scotland, for the far north of scotland, along few showers. So 13 along with a few showers. So 13 celsius, example. But the celsius, for example. But in the south, thats where the south, well, thats where the sun shine will be at its warmest with temperatures here of 20 to 23, perhaps 24 celsius. We keep some of that warmth into the evening and overnight. Certainly a breezy night and a cloudy night for many. So temperatures arent fall far for the arent going to fall far for the Northern Isles were to Northern Isles. Were going to see and strong wind see showers and a strong wind from gales in exposed from the north, gales in exposed parts the rest of parts. But for the rest of scotland , actually, its scotland, actually, its increasingly wet by dawn with some heavy rain turning up, especially in west of especially in the west of scotland. Elsewhere across the uk, low clouds, misty ness uk, some low clouds, misty ness first this weekend, but it first thing this weekend, but it will lift fairly quickly and sunshine will develop widely across england and wales, the far north of england. Seeing a wet start perhaps, but the rain should ease off the should ease off into the afternoon. Northern ireland afternoon. Northern ireland seeing some sunshine. But seeing some hazy sunshine. But for central belt north into for the central belt north into northern mainland northern parts of mainland scotland, its going to be very wet through saturday the wet through saturday with the risk localised flooding 24 risk of localised flooding 24 celsius in the south and coming up, a royal visit at Aston Villa Paul coyte will be joining us with all the latest sports headunes with all the latest sports headlines this is gb news. Welcome back. Its 732. Youre watching or listening to breakfast with anne and martin. Now heres some breaking news for you. Hogs has opened a new campus in Exeter University. Well, not quite, but students at Exeter University can now study the roots of spells as part of a new degree in magic. Part of a new degree in magic. They can also study about dragons and witches. Now, all right. Now, all right. Before you get steam coming out of your ears, you may think its a bit weird or its a bit exciting, but is magic actual degree . Well, joining us now for the debate, magician and mind reader Stephen Simmons , who says it is Stephen Simmons, who says it is brilliant and chairman of the campaign for real education and former head teacher chris mcgovern, who says the degree is unlikely to convince employers, although we thought it might look very interesting on a cv. Yeah, well , lets kick off yeah, well, lets kick off with the mind reader. So tell us about it. Why do you think its a good idea then, that people, stephen, should be studying magic . Studying magic . Well, good morning. Thank you so much for having me on. I really appreciate it. And i think its such an interesting course, isnt it . Because Exeter University has got a new course on magic and the occult, which deals lot of spells deals with a lot of spells and storytelling folklore and storytelling and folklore and i think that britain has got so much ingrained legend things from king arthur and all the way down. I grew up in cornwall, down. I grew up in cornwall, down in the west country, and there was always these folklores my granddad used to come back from the mines and used to say that they used to have a Cornish Pasty youd throw the crust pasty and youd throw the crust over shoulder that over your shoulder and that would to feed the would be there to feed the knockers, which i assume are some kind cornish pixies. And some kind of cornish pixies. And these the kind of legends some kind of cornish pixies. And thesiare the kind of legends some kind of cornish pixies. And thesiare ingrained of legends some kind of cornish pixies. And thesiare ingrained ofbritish is society. Yeah. Look what j. K. Well, yeah. Look what j. K. Rowling was managed dig up rowling was managed to dig up and into novels. Lets talk and turn into novels. Lets talk to you, though, chris. Mean, to you, though, chris. I mean, its very easy to dismiss these as sort of not very real degrees. Mickey mouse degrees some people would call them, but sometimes they can have real education at the basis of it and turn you into a very interesting person, dont think . Person, dont you think . Well, but first of all, let me say that i think youngsters taking this degree, its going to cost them between 12,000 and £24,000 for a year, depending on where they live, if theyre expecting the hogwarts harry potter experience, theres a possibility be possibility that they may be disappointed. Not going disappointed. Theyre not going to turning frogs into princes to be turning frogs into princes or but as my or princesses, but as my colleague there says , there is colleague there says, there is a very reputable history to magic. This this course is called history magic and the Occult Sciences and it covers the history of this subject going back to ancient times. Theres a back to ancient times. Theres a very famous Award Winning book 50 years ago called religion and the decline of magic, by keith thomas. That was a bestseller. And what it shows is that, of course, magic does have a history. It does have importance. I think the title of the course is going to put some employers off. My concern was that theyre selling it as magic, but actually they need to sell it as a history course and then might then it might have more credibility. Forget, credibility. We mustnt forget, by that king james, the by the way, that king james, the first the first stuart king in the 17th century, wrote the 17th century, he wrote a book about witchcraft and witches and shakespeare wrote macbeth, which is about macbeth, which is all about witchcraft. Is serious witchcraft. So there is serious study there. When the reformation came in, religion changed. Magic tended to diminish. So there is a history there my concern is that i there. My real concern is that i dont want youngsters to be spending grand 12 grand if spending 24 grand or 12 grand if theyre in the uk and theyre living in the uk and thinking theyre going to have a harry experience. Theyre not. Isnt that yes. Stephen isnt that a fair i mean, its a free fair point . I mean, its a free country. We can study whatever we want, but the only thing thats to magically thats going to magically disappear if you this is disappear if you study this is 24 grand a year. Yeah, youre probably right, because different yeah, youre probably right, because magic. Different yeah, youre probably right, because magic. Theresferent sides to magic. Theres the deception for entertainment, which magic tricks and which is magic tricks and conjuring and things of that nature. And any of your courses like this, which deal with the history of magic and things of the occult and ancient rituals and texts things and ancient texts and things that back into the that again go back into the history magic. So, you know, history of magic. So, you know, if thats what people want to do. My field study is do. My field of study is primarily the conjuring side primarily in the conjuring side of ive got a personal of it, and ive got a personal interest in occult side of of it, and ive got a personal intbutt in occult side of of it, and ive got a personal intbut not occult side of of it, and ive got a personal intbut not in occult side of of it, and ive got a personal intbut not in ajccult side of of it, and ive got a personal intbut not in a professional it, but not in a professional manner. And thats what i was thinking part of thinking might even be part of this sort of i mean, as chris said, its probably going to be more do with the history, more to do with the history, which fascinating itself. Which is fascinating in itself. If you did want to but then if you did want to take the art of a modern take up the art of a modern magician, need know about magician, you need to know about how throw events, how to how how to throw events, how to how to a stage event, dont to set up a stage event, dont you . I to set up a stage event, dont you . I mean, theres a science to as well, which to this as well, which is nothing do magic, but to nothing to do with magic, but to do with the way we do showbiz. Absolutely. Think yeah, absolutely. And i think if you to go down the if you want to go down the conjuring route, there are organisations magic organisations like the magic circle in london, which is just a group of brilliant a fantastic group of brilliant magicians together magicians who all get together and some really and talk about some really fantastic theres fantastic magic. And theres lots branches of lots of different branches of magic. That i tend to magic. The branch that i tend to go towards is psychological based, where its using suggestion principles and psychology principles and trying to come up with some things that look like i might have a sixth sense. So chris, looking into your crystal ball , how your crystal ball, how employable do you think people will be if they take a magic degree . Degree . Its going to its going to be misleading. You know, nothing is ever what it seems in magic. And so when an employer sees magic in the title of a of a degree, theyre going to be put off. Let me say, by the way, im a Firm Believer in magic. I was watching aston villa last night, and to talk and i think youre going to talk about shortly. And the about that shortly. And with the prince. And they won. Won about that shortly. And with the prithe. And they won. Won about that shortly. And with the prithe fourth hey won. Won about that shortly. And with the prithe fourth minutel. Won about that shortly. And with the prithe fourth minute of won about that shortly. And with the prithe fourth minute of injuryon in the fourth minute of injury time. Now thats real magic. And any self respecting magician would of bookcase would be proud of the bookcase behind chris. Behind you, chris. Mean, if that isnt i mean, that if that isnt from i dont know what from hogwarts, i dont know what is. Very much. Both is. Thank you very much. Both its absolutely fascinating its been absolutely fascinating and no doubt we will hear in coming years how well people have done their degree in have done with their degree in magic or whatever you call it, from Exeter University, which is a very cool university, i have to say. Its some really to say. Its some really interesting stuff. So thank you both. Thats right. And now its time to introduce our glamorous assistant, paul coyte for the latest sports headlines. Thank you very much. I got thank you very much. I got to. Sorry, was there magic that happened last night . Well, i wouldnt really say magic. I mean, i was hit by the corner of a Cornish Pasty as i was walking in. Ive just realised was stephen. Theyre realised it was stephen. Theyre just throwing it over his shoulder. To worry. Shoulder. But not to worry. There there was there was some. There was certainly some interest. There were, aston were, we say magic at aston villa. Well come to that in a second. But liverpool 2 0 second. But liverpool won 2 0 against i mentioned against union. Sg i mentioned the mccallisters didnt the mccallisters earlier, didnt i . Brothers, i . Theres just a nic see two footballers holding see two footballers holding something youll have to describe something youll have to des theyre something youll have to destheyre holding something theyre holding something now. Called looked now. Its a drink called looked into yerba mate, into this called yerba mate, which national drink of which is the national drink of argentina. In it . And argentina. Whats in it . Probably use for Something Else. Health benefits. Tea has those tea the energy of coffee, the indoor finn boost of chocolate. Its made in a gourd. Oh, youve got. Weve got one earth. Did you. And it works as a little tea strainer and thats what they. Where did that come from . Has he got drink in it . Has he got the drink in it . And you can have a little tug. I dont know. I dont know. Might like it because i think hes its good stuff. But its good stuff. But its good stuff. Its actually growing on me. Its actually growing on me. On its growing on me. Its growing on me. About ham beat i talk about west ham beat freiburg in germany and theyve set a new record, which is the most in most wins by any british team in european competition. On the bounce had spurs had bounce leeds had 16, spurs had 16, as did manchester city, 17 wins trot or 17 unbeaten. Wins on the trot or 17 unbeaten. Good 17. Good going unbeaten in 17. So theres a littlewas of Prince William talking about. So theres a littlewas theref Prince William talking about. So theres a littlewas there enjoyingiiilliam talking about. So theres a littlewas there enjoyingiiillia and who was there enjoying that and going crazy 94 minutes. Going crazy after 94 minutes. Okay cup, very okay cricket world cup, very quick mention of disastrous quick mention of that disastrous start for england, but you get on with that. Im actually really it. Really enjoying it. Yeah. Hello again, 745 youre watching and listening to breakfast with anne and martin. Yeah. Joining us go through some of the days headlines, as is deputy Political Editor at the mail on sunday, Anna Mikhailova and broadcaster and journalist jones. Top of journalist andy jones. Top of the to both. Anna the morning to you both. Anna lets kick off with your story. Lets kick off with your story. Were covering it lot on the were covering it a lot on the show the Windsor Castle show today. The Windsor Castle breaking. Breaking. Yeah, remember i was in uh, yeah, i remember i was in the newsroom that Christmas Day when and we were when it happened, and we were all pretty shocked. Some of when it happened, and we were all detailshocked. Some of when it happened, and we were all detail thatsd. Some of when it happened, and we were all detail thats comingsome of when it happened, and we were all detail thats coming oute of when it happened, and we were all detail thats coming out off the detail thats coming out of this is remarkable. This story is remarkable. What time did the news get through you . Can remember . It was. Yeah, it was just after time. I remember after lunch time. I remember i had splash it wasnt had the splash and it wasnt very and i was almost very good. And i was almost relieved that a story had relieved that a bit story had come but obviously not come in. But obviously not relieved is the reality relieved by this. Is the reality of like things of newspapers. We do like things happening. , some of the happening. But yeah, some of the some of the things jump out some of the things that jump out to things like hed said to me are things like hed said that if he couldnt get the queen, that Prince Charles would be his next target, sort of quite scary and that he was in the grounds of the castle for about two hours before he was actually caught. Thats interesting. Thats interesting. You were you were watching so you were you were watching at about sort of 11, midday ish. Yeah in the newsroom . Yeah, we yeah in the newsroom . Yeah, we were waiting. We didnt get to see the queens final Christmas Day speech until, what, three . So you were in that funny time when most people are just filling themselves full of turkey and yeah, we had the newspaper very kindly provided a christmas for us because christmas lunch for us because when you work Christmas Day, normally, know, they do normally, you know, they do Something Like that. A sunday paper. It its on a sunday paper. It only happens every seven years. When you got hear the when you got to hear the news, would presumably have news, he would presumably have just been arrested some two hours after he first got in. Yeah, it started off. Yeah, it started off. You look at the timescale, its a bit frightening, isnt it . Yeah, it was. Yeah, it was. It was. And it was about it was a few hours before deadline. So you know, the paper actually got over the line. The chief reporter went out there straight all sort straight away. It was all sort of it was quite, quite an act of christmas that that year Christmas Day that that year hes obviously very deeply hes obviously a very deeply disturbed individual. Disturbed individual. And the and one of the horrible details of the story is the way he was. He was talking to an ai chat bot about it all the there are a number of interesting aspects about this story. First of all, we talk about him being a disturbed individual, but able individual, but he was able to get hold a nylon ladder. He get a hold of a nylon ladder. He was able to get a height of an iron mask that hed sort of fashioned hes to fashioned himself. Hes able to get hold crossbow. Get hold of a crossbow. And you think, mentally think, well, somebodys mentally illiterate think, well, somebodys mentally illiteraiand also the controls on things. And also the controls on these to a bit these items need to be a bit higher. You say, this ai higher. But as you say, this ai chat bot called samurai apparently speaking and apparently was speaking to and an girlfriend. It an ai chat bot girlfriend. It basically of to basically you sort of chat to this computer based device and it says, you know, hows your day , whichever or whichever. And day, whichever or whichever. And its sort of quite inane basic chat. But ai develops intelligence of its own as you speak to it. So it then understands things that youre talking things that you talking about, things that you talking about, things that you talk researches talk about it then researches itself and parrots these itself online and parrots these things back you. And he was things back to you. And he was talking his of talking about his plan of killing and had to be killing the queen and had to be secret etcetera. Secret about it and etcetera. And the chat bot was saying things tom moore thats a very wise plan of action. Yeah best of luck with it. And all this sort thing because its so it sort of thing because its so it was reassuring him and actually quite so it doesnt quite and so it doesnt differentiate between your day at work of using i really dont like my boss or the traffic was terrible and your plan to kill the queen, it doesnt really understand the seriousness of it. Understands how to it. It just understands how to carry a conversation and carry on a conversation and reinforce be compassionate. Reinforce and be compassionate. And that is the same compassion appued and that is the same compassion applied you applied whether you were planning the queen or planning to kill the queen or whether mildly whether youre just mildly annoyed day at work. Annoyed with your day at work. And so many of viewers and so many of our viewers have been getting in touch this morning thought have been getting in touch this morningwas thought have been getting in touch this morningwas a thought have been getting in touch this morningwas a much ought have been getting in touch this morningwas a much bigger treason was a much bigger offence just getting nine offence than just getting nine years. Offence than just getting nine yea thats offence than just getting nine yeathats right. Yeah offence than just getting nine yeai hats right. Yeah offence than just getting nine yeai hats rightwasxh offence than just getting nine yeai hats rightwas hes been i mean, he was hes been convicted of treason. Yeah, but i mean, he was hes been conhighi of treason. Yeah, but i mean, he was hes been conhigh treason. ;on. Yeah, but i mean, he was hes been conhigh treason. And yeah, but i mean, he was hes been conhigh treason. And theres1t not high treason. And theres a difference. Apparently, there is. But even treason is very rare to get a conviction for. I mean, there have only been one was the last case. There have been a handful. And of course, yeah, it handful. And of course, yeah, it used to be a hanging offence. I think the last the last person to hanged for treason was in to be hanged for treason was in the 40 as lord haw haw. To be hanged for treason was in the 40 as lord haw haw. Yes, the 40 as lord haw haw. Yes, thats right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He was hanged for treason. But apparently its the it would have been high treason if hed actually confronted the queen and raised the bow towards her. That high but that would be high treason. But the planning and getting as far as he did with a Lethal Weapon that was armed is only treason. That was armed is only treason. And for that, i mean, he was Walking Around the grounds with two hours. Yeah, plenty time to yeah, plenty of time to change right . Mean, change his mind, right . I mean, this very deliberate we this was a very deliberate we talked his mental talked about his mental capacity, but hes a very deliberate of deliberate act. The number of items he acquired, it was an offence of most seriousness. Offence of the most seriousness. And i thought it was and nine years i thought it was punching bit yeah, he got punching a bit low. Yeah, he got tasered that. Punching a bit low. Yeah, he got taanei that. Punching a bit low. Yeah, he got taanei tremain in he hell remain in Psychiatric Hospital for now and then be transferred then hell be transferred into custody into regular prison custody into a regular prison after hes received the treatment that needs. Thats treatment that he needs. Thats the that case. Andy, the latest on that case. Andy, shall move your story shall we move on to your story from telegraph , the from page of the telegraph, the anorexia scandal . Whats this story about . Yeah. And this is a desperately upsetting story. And i and flag up a i apologise and would flag up a trigger warning for anyone who suffered with conditions like anorexia family. Anorexia or in their family. This 24 year old woman who this is a 24 year old woman who has been given essentially given the to die by a judge, the right to die by a judge, which is really unusual because she her body mass index is now so low, 8 to 10 between 8 and 10, a 24 year old woman would normally have a body mass index of eight and a half to 25. So even if you dont understand those numbers, you can see this even if you dont understand th are numbers, you can see this even if you dont understand th a woman ers, you can see this even if you dont understand th a woman whos,j can see this even if you dont understand th a woman whos, you1 see this even if you dont understand th a woman whos, you know, his is a woman whos, you know, a third almost shes on deaths door moment. Door at the moment. Said judge more they said the judge is more or allowing to go home or less allowing her to go home and receive Palliative Care i yes. And this is this is an individual thats called patricia. Or even patricia. She is days or even hours from death. And she can leave palliative leave and receive Palliative Care at home. But her parents of this desperately anguished about this, theyre saying shes changing her mind. Shes saying that she wants to die, but also, can resuscitate her if can they resuscitate her if shes brought you know, if she collapses, she she was saying she wants to be treated at home and will not treated at home, but just allowed to die at home one minute and then the next day, said, actually, day, she said, actually, i want to go to an eating disorder to go back to an eating disorder clinic. You know, clinic. And this is a you know, these always desperate cases these are always desperate cases about of the about the right of the individual what Health Individual versus what health care provide the rights individual versus what health ca families. Wide the rights individual versus what health ca families. Yvide its the rights individual versus what health ca families. Yvide its an e rights of families. And its an interesting one, a really complicated moral issue. Were talking European Court talking about the European Court of human rights earlier and enshrined in that is the right to life and doctors should be doing their absolute utmost to keep somebody alive. And you think old, shes shes think 24 years old, shes shes clearly , if you believe the clearly, if you believe the statement of the family, shes clearly confused. Family are saying but the family are saying theyre appalled by the decision that effectively that a judge is effectively granting their daughter death. They they would like to see an intervention to try and save her life. But she has the supremacy of to die. Of choice to die. Youd certainly consider that if this has been as far as a judge. Judge this, patricia has been proactive enough forcing this through that she has said on more than one occasion she definitely wants to die. But this is if you believe the parents, shes saying, well, actually, to go back to actually, i want to go back to an can an eating disorder clinic. Can i be treated this is a very complicated issue. It must be. Its one where just dreadful , its one where just dreadful, particularly parents and particularly for her parents and just so that we can end on a well, is it a higher note . Dont know to cheat i dont know how to cheat a professor here has confiscated pens from his students. Why . Pens from his students. Why . So the student has ingeniously been able to write the answers to the exam on these pens. And if youve got a photo, its quite remarkable. In tiny, its quite remarkable. In tiny, tiny, tiny script , it looks like tiny, tiny script, it looks like hes carved out the answers on just a normal biro. Yeah which i love because, you know, theres so much there it is. Its nice so much there it is. Its nice to have a bit of what youd call low tech cheating because at the moment its all computers and phones and ipads and getting answers that way and plagiarism and this is just a bit of old School Cheating for those who cant see the pictures. If you listen on radio, thats basically a standard bic biro with tiny, tiny lettering. How on earth would you see it . Youd have to take a magnifying glass into the exam. Presumably that goes presumably the work that goes into inscribing in such detail on the side of biro , youd on the side of a biro, youd think having inscript inscribed that you would have actually remembered it anyway. Youd have thought so. Its far to cheat than it far more effort to cheat than it is actually learn it. Is to actually learn it. And of course, this is perilous because in in a moment and of course, this is peanxiety, ecause in in a moment and of course, this is peanxiety, if|use in in a moment and of course, this is peanxiety, if hey in in a moment and of course, this is pe anxiety, if he started moment of anxiety, if he started chewing test, chewing his biro in the test, all that would be ruined. All that work would be ruined. Theres lots of the answer so theres lots of the answer pulling, chewed pulling, looking at the chewed bits, saying what . Part . My theory what part . Come on. My theory is hard into actually is the hard work into actually just bit of revision surely. Yeah. Yeah. Right. I think were very nearly at time to say thank you very much indeed for coming in again and well back with you again and well be back with you again and well be back with you a later. But right now a bit later. But right now youll want know whats youll want to know whats happening wise. Happening weather wise. Good morning to hello, very good morning to you. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the met with gb from the met office with the gb news fine and warm news forecast. A fine and warm day come in the south. But day to come in the south. But cloudy elsewhere with cloudy and breezy elsewhere with outbreaks of rain in places mostly the central parts of southern scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and north wales, where well see the wettest conditions. The rain, heavy and persistent over the hills. I heavy and persistent over the hills. I think north of the central belt therell be central belt there, therell be some initial some brightness after initial rain away, but it will be rain clears away, but it will be windy and much cooler with windy and much cooler here with that the north that wind coming from the north for the far north of scotland, along a few showers. So along with a few showers. So 13 celsius, but in the celsius, for example. But in the south, thats where the south, well, thats where the sun shine will be at its warmest with temperatures here of 20 to 23, perhaps 24 celsius. We keep some of that warmth into the evening and overnight. It certainly a breezy night and a cloudy night for many. So temperatures arent going to fall the Northern Isles. Fall far for the Northern Isles. Were see showers were going to see showers and a strong from the north, strong wind from the north, gales parts for gales in exposed parts. But for the scotland , actually, the rest of scotland, actually, its increasingly wet by dawn with some heavy rain turning up , especially the west of , especially in the west of scotland. Elsewhere across the uk, low clouds, some uk, some low clouds, some mistiness thing this mistiness first thing this weekend , it lift fairly weekend, but it will lift fairly quickly and sunshine will develop widely across england and wales , the far north of and wales, the far north of england, seeing a wet start perhaps, but rain should perhaps, but the rain should ease off the afternoon. Ease off into the afternoon. Northern seeing some Northern Ireland seeing some hazy for the hazy sunshine. But for the central belt north into northern parts of mainland scotland, its going to be very wet through saturday with the risk of localised flooding. 24 celsius in the south. Aiden thanks very much indeed. What do you think about teaching children how to brush their in school . Their teeth in school . Yes, sir. And youve got people going at home. This is keir idea to teach Keir Starmers idea to teach kids. Says instead of kids. Donna says instead of putting more pressure on our teachers, government needs teachers, the government needs to back dentists to bring back the dentists to the school. The school. Scare the life out of. Scare the life out of. Never go to school then. Id never go to school then. Id never go to school then. Think alison i dont think alison in amazon when a child, amazon says, when i was a child, i remember was a public i remember there was a Public Service at children i remember there was a public se encourage at children i remember there was a public se encourage teeth at children i remember there was a public se encourage teeth cleaning. Iren to encourage teeth cleaning. I seem to remember that too, and weve given up on so many of those Public Service ads which i think were a bit nanny statish , think were a bit nanny statish, but good, know, they thought but good, you know, they thought you road. You had to cross the road. Alison. Alison. We brush our alison says, we brush our teeth to year two after teeth up to year two after lunch. Alison the way lunch. Alison leading the way there starmer superb lunch. Alison leading the way there you. Starmer superb. Thank you. Okay, more to come. Okay, lots more to come. Okay, lots more to come. You if you the rutherglen and Hamilton West by election in scotland and took the seat from the snp. Earlier the seat from the snp. Earlier we spoke to the shadow chief secretary to the treasury, pat mcfadden. Mcfadden. Weve changed the labour party. Its now a very Different Force from the one that was offered to the electorate a few years ago. Keir starmer has dnven years ago. Keir starmer has driven that change as the country wants change. The only people who can deliver that change are the labour party and we have our scotland reporter tony maguire in hamilton. With all the reactions as hello , good morning, im tony maguire. Im here in rutherglen to get analysis and reaction to last nights win by Michael Shanks , nights win by Michael Shanks, the modern studies teacher who took this seat from the snp and scotlands first ever recall by election in keep with us and well cover this story much more throughout the morning. Throughout the morning. And away from the overnight politics, a man who broke into Windsor Castle armed with a loaded crossbow to kill the late queen has been sentenced to nine years in jail for the crime of treason. And the home office is continuing to convert the former raf base at scampton into a camp for Asylum Seekers. Despite being told to stop work immediately. Our east work immediately. Our east Midlands Reporter will hollis has been following this story. Has been following this story. Its six months since the home office announced that they were turning scampton into a camp for Asylum Seekers. So why is it that now local residents are setting up their own tents outside instead . To find out outside instead . To find out more in just a quarter of an hour and aiden has your weather. As we approach the weekend, its a significant contrast across the uk. Very warm for many this weekend, but very wet in some places. Many this weekend, but very wet in some places. Find out all the in some places. Find out all the details in the forecast coming up soon. And captain paul coyte is here with your sport. Is here with your sport. Well, england lose to new zealand heavily at the start of the cricket world cup when it comes to the Rugby World Cup, getting to the business end there over the weekend. And also weve got an interesting why innocent interesting one. Why an innocent picture chinese athletes picture of two chinese athletes has censored. Well find out. Gosh, theres a lot going on today. Lovely to be with you. Today. Lovely to be with you. Im anne diamond. And im Martin Daubney and this is breakfast on. Gb this is breakfast on. Gb news. Helen says its one thing to focus on dentistry for children. This is Keir Starmers big idea. But what about focusing on the amount of sugar contained in food which contribute, contribute to tooth decay . Yeah, weve been saying that because a lot of kids that go to my kids school, they have red bull to school, so bull on the way to school, so theyre eating junk after theyve home. If theyve left home. So even if their parents brush their their parents do brush their teeth, creating problems teeth, theyre creating problems before they even get in the school gate near a corner shop. And i see them going off on the school bus every morning. It and theyve just gone in and theyre buying all of those drinks. Right. But drinks. Yeah, youre right. But also packets of crisps and ready made sandwiches and i think i think parents must be just think their parents must be just giving money to giving them money to go to school instead of school with that instead of a proper breakfast or maybe two kids that eat i dont kids that eat both. I dont know. Not very for know. But its not very good for your teeth, is it . And i think we might expect to see something the labour to see something at the labour conference. Of ideas. We conference. Lots of ideas. We were by pat mcfadden were promised by pat mcfadden a policy conference. They policy rich conference. They have talking about free have been talking about free breakfasts labour breakfasts at school, the labour party, for quite some time. What isnt . Isnt this a but what isnt . Isnt this a country thats country then . Thats saying weve how to parent weve forgotten how to parent our children because were just relying on school to do everything, we, including everything, arent we, including now teaching them how brush now teaching them how to brush their teeth, them , brush their teeth, feed them, brush their teeth, feed them, brush their else . Their teeth, what else . Taught. Theyre going to be taught. But there is a lot of but i think there is a lot of kids coming through the school. My ta at nursery my missus is a ta at nursery level and a lot of kids now turn up to school. Theyre not potty trained, still wearing trained, theyre still wearing nappies. Them, theyre nappies. A lot of them, theyre not brushing teeth, not brushing their teeth, theyre to theyre not wearing nappies to nursery yeah, thats nursery school. Yeah, thats right. A lot and right. A lot a lot of them. And an increasing number. Were seeing that increase throughout the over the years. The school takes with the school takes them with nappies. Have thought nappies. I would have thought somewhere line you somewhere along the line you have to say your children have to to do these things to be able to do these things before come nursery school. Well, there is like an inspection you meet inspection when you first meet them assure them that them and they assure them that they trained. But what do they are trained. But what do you a kid turns up in you do if a kid turns up in nappy . You cant send them home. No, i suppose you cant. Gosh well, us know what your well, let us know what your thoughts are on and any well, let us know what your thoug matters, n and any well, let us know what your thougmatters, becauseind any well, let us know what your thoug matters, because theyre other matters, because theyre all politics all affecting the politics probably were to probably of the way were to going vote in, what, over a years going vote in, what, over a years time . Labour, of course, overnight has won the rutherglen and by election in and Hamilton West by election in scotland swing. So scotland as a 20 swing. So Michael Shanks, take the seat from the snp, the Scottish National party. Yeah, the scottish seat was vacated when Margaret Ferrier, if you recall, was suspended from the for house of commons breaching covid rules leading to a recall petition commenting after the announcement, the labour leader , sir keir starmer, labour leader, sir keir starmer, said the people in rutherglen and west have sent and Hamilton West have sent a clear message it is time for change now. Speaking after the results , the new mp for results, the new mp for rutherglen and Hamilton West, Michael Shanks, had this to say. It feels incredible to represent the community that i live in. The community that i love, but also i do feel the responsibility of thousands of people that have put their trust in me. Met many of these people ive met many of these people over the past six months. Its been a very long by election and know by election campaign. And i know a aspirations, the a lot of the aspirations, the challenges theyve challenges that theyve raised with now put with me and now theyve put their me to deliver on their trust in me to deliver on that. And thats thats the hard work. Thats ahead of us. Absolutely this is the absolutely extraordinary result, a seismic result. Think this will result. And i think this will send through snp. Result. And i think this will senca through snp. Result. And i think this will senca historic through snp. Result. And i think this will senca historic momentgh snp. Result. And i think this will senca historic moment in snp. And a historic moment in scottish politics. I think scottish politics. I think scottish is scottish politics is fundamentally changed tonight. The of rutherglen and the people of rutherglen and Hamilton West demonstrated Hamilton West have demonstrated that scotland are sick of two failing governments. They want the incompetence or the chaos and the division to come to an end, and theyre desperate for change. And they can now see that for change is that that vehicle for change is with labour party. With the Scottish Labour Party. So so a great night for the labour party and a nightmare for the snp. Our scotland reporter tony mcguire for us. Mcguire is in hamilton for us. Tony whats the reaction in the constituency . Constituency . Hello. Good morning. Yes, well certainly im in rutherglen this morning and as you see, what a night for labour and scottish labours certainly keir starmer always said that victory at the next general election was going to be predicated on a mounting a support from scotland and scotlands constituencies and hell be seeing last nights victory for Michael Shanks. Its the first step in that plan of seizing scotland out of the snp control. So we know that it was control. So we know that it was about 58 of the vote turnout voted for Michael Shanks last night, almost double what katy loudon, the snp candidate , took loudon, the snp candidate, took away at the end of the count. He will. Michael shanks is local to here and like katy loudon, a teacher, a modern studies teacher, a modern studies teacher from the local community, he has spent the last six months, he says really pounding the streets, getting the temperature of the local community here. And certainly the big factors facing the locals here are the same as you would imagine. There would be all the way around the country, the cost of living and also just General Health issues and the state of the nhs and these post pandemic years. We had some post pandemic years. We had some comments, of course , seismic is comments, of course, seismic is what both anas sannar and keir starmer called last nights win. Whether thats nuts remains to be seen. It was a low voting turnout, but its always expected for in a by election such as this. But the real story here is that this was a by election that both the snp and labour had to win. Snp had to make a point that humza yousaf was behind the wheel and in full control and certainly he will be seeing this as a crushing disappointment. But one crushing disappointment. But one by election, by election does not paint the picture of the whole country, so well need to wait and see over the next 12 months if the snp can ramp up and get , as he says, won back and get, as he says, won back the support of the scottish people. People. Okay, tony, thanks very much indeed. Joining us there from hamilton, where there may be many a sore head this morning, but how long can the celebrations go on . Lets talk to our deputy Political Editor, tom hannood. Yeah i mean, how much is there for them to celebrate . Because it a by election does not a general election make . Thats certainly true. And we know that by elections generally swing away from incumbents. Now in england. Thats away from the government, the conservative government, the conservative government in scotland that could be argued to be swinging away from the incumbent snp, Scottish Government , which away from the incumbent snp, Scottish Government, which has beenin Scottish Government, which has been in power in one form or another since two thousand and seven. There north of the border. But also, of course, the local situation with regard to the reason why this by election happenedin the reason why this by election happened in the first place, the recall petition , the egregious recall petition, the egregious covid breaches by Margaret Ferrier, the former snp mp, then independent, it does seem that this was a must win for the labour party. Now theyll be crowing from the rooftops in liverpool as they meet over this weekend and the next following few days for their party conference. It would deeply conference. It would be deeply embarrassing labour embarrassing for the labour party if they had not won this by election after all, Jeremy Corbyn managed to win this seat back in 2017, but the margin by which they won it was slightly more than expectations. That 20 point swing is a very significant victory for the labour party. So theres a lot they can be happy about. Theres a lot the snp can sort of question themselves about, but i think ultimately the dispassionate analysis here, away from all the political spin , is that this just confirms where the polls are. This confirms that the labour party has a significant lead in the polls, that these polls arent illusionary, they arent imaginary , theyre real. And imaginary, theyre real. And that means that at looking at all the data as weve seen it, real world electoral results and also all of these polls weve had for the last year. Now if there were a general election tomorrow, there would be a substantial labour majority and theres 129 seats to fight for north of the border. The labour party now will be licking their lips at the prospect increasing their prospect of increasing their reach scotland, which of reach in scotland, which of course affect the prospect course will affect the prospect of majority of a greater majority and getting the spectre of a getting rid of the spectre of a Hung Parliament westminster Hung Parliament in westminster at general starmer at the next general keir starmer said before his routes to said before that his routes to a majority runs through scotland. And whilst not and whilst its not necessarily the case, i mean ultimately labour party necessarily the case, i mean ultimepiece labour party necessarily the case, i mean ultimepiece togetherr party necessarily the case, i mean ultimepiece together aarty necessarily the case, i mean ultimepiece together a majority could piece together a majority in england scottish seats. In england with scottish seats. It much, much easier. It becomes much, much easier. And clearly if the snp folds back and it does look like we did see the we have been past the High Water Mark of snp dominance in scotland, the labour party finds that route to get a majority much, much easier and perhaps it stops being the need for a double digit point lead to get a majority. But a single digit lead. Now earlier on we were speaking to, i think his shadow secretary to the treasury, isnt he . Pat mcfadden, whos also labours Campaign Coordinator for this, is what he had to say about last nights success and how he he sees it. How he he sees it. We know the scale of the challenge after the last election. Weve changed the labour party. Its now a very labour party. Its now a very Different Force from the one that was offered to the electorate a few years ago. Keir starmer has driven that change and made clear that that was his initial project. And made clear that that was his initial project. Now and made clear that that was his initial project. Now the project initial project. Now the project is to lay out in front of the country the kind of policies that labour would put in place were we to win the next election, the next step in doing thatis election, the next step in doing that is our conference, which starts this weekend in liverpool. So youll see a policy rich conference acas and one that will make clear that as the country wants change, the only people who can deliver that change are the labor party. So tom, therell be a lot of people listening to what to what pat said there and thinking, well about time. A policy rich conference. Once we got Alastair Campbell today in the guardian saying you know policies. Keir know show us your policies. Keir starmer weve got peter mantle saying keir starmer saying that keir starmer isnt ready so we need to ready to govern, so we need to see detail. We need to see policy. Do you think were going to in liverpool this weekend . Its difficult because the conservative party has been laying for the labour laying traps for the labour party. Traps party. Its been laying traps on, example , gender issues on, for example, gender issues or the hs2 line, sort of trying to get the labour party to fall into those traps to announce that theyd spend more money or go against what perhaps majorities of the British Public are now saying and thinking. But the labour partys been very, very careful in the last two years not to fall into any of these policy traps to keep their mouths relatively tight lipped and to have this default if frustrate. Waiting response to frustrate. Waiting response to all of these questions saying youll have to wait for the manifesto. But we know now that manifesto. But we know now that the general election is likely to take place within the next 12 months. So a push it will happen in the next 13 it in the next 13 months. It becomes harder and harder now for the labour party to say, oh, youll have to wait for the manifesto, have to start manifesto, they have to start laying the groundwork, have laying the groundwork, they have to out policy to start putting out policy proposals indeed the last proposals and indeed the last two Labour Party Conferences which ive attended with gb news have been very interesting. The first one was a battle, sir keir starmer was heckled to the rafters during he rafters during his speech. He passed constitute reform. He was fighting the corbynistas in his party. It was vicious. Then last year was almost celebratory. It year was almost celebratory. It happened just as the fallout from the mini budget was taking place and the labour Party Started to finally see some poll leads , they were almost to leads, they were almost to bemused by their own advantage. Bemused by their own advantage. This time round, it will be a more dispassionate affair. They will no longer be. Its no longer novel to see the labour party ahead in the polls. Theyve got to Start Talking about themselves in a more serious way. And no doubt those serious way. And no doubt those serious way. And no doubt those serious questions of policy of tax and of spend will be at the top of the agenda. Well, it will be interesting to see if the conference coming up now, is policy rich , as pat up now, is policy rich, as pat mcfadden promised . He said , mcfadden promised . He said, well, thats what we want to hean well, thats what we want to hear, isnt it . Tom, thanks very much indeed. Martins been in much indeed. Martins been in touch, yesterdays his touch, says yesterdays his election shows that british people do not like extremes. I people do not like extremes. I wonder if thats true. The turn to the far right by people such as braverman has appalled many of friends. Britain was of my friends. Britain was always a tolerant and respected place. The right are place. The far right are destroying our global reputation i but then daryl says this this can hardly be described as a seismic victory with voter apathy and only a 37 turnout. However rishi still needs to put his finger out and get the country sorted. We cannot afford a Labour Government in power, says daryl. Well , the other big headline well, the other big headline of the morning is this at 814, very nearly 815, a man who broke into Windsor Castle armed with a loaded crossbow to kill the late queen has now been sentenced to nine years in jail for the crime of treason. Jaswant singh chand wandered around inside the grounds for two hours on Christmas Day 2021, before two officers confronted him with tasers. The late Queen Elizabeth was in residence at the time, along with many other members of the royal family, because it was Christmas Day for them. Well, joining us now is our royal correspondent, Cameron Walker. Morning, cameron. Good morning watching what morning. Ive been watching what youve about it thus morning. Ive been watching what you and about it thus morning. Ive been watching what you and its about it thus morning. Ive been watching what you and its an about it thus morning. Ive been watching what you and its an absolutely it thus far, and its an absolutely fascinating case because when did last see a case of treason . Well, absolutely. It was 1981. And during trooping the colour where Marcus Sarjeant fired six blank shots at the queen as she rode down the mall on burmese. Queen as she rode down the mall on burmese. He was queen as she rode down the mall on burmese. He was sentenced to on burmese. He was sentenced to five years in prison. But Jaswant Singh child yesterday sent 8 to 9 years in prison , sent 8 to 9 years in prison, plus another five years on licence. But that is because theres three separate charges here. So theres the one of treason. 1842 he was also charged with making threats to kill the queen and also possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. Now the judge was essentially having to weigh up yesterday whether or not Mental Health played a factor in this case. So is he going to go to jail or is he going to go to jail or is he going to go into a Psychiatric Hospital . Well, what the judge hospital . Well, what the judge decided was that it was going to be a combination of the two. So hes to going continue treatments at broadmoor psychiatric Psychiatric Hospital in london. And then when hes well enough, he is going to go in prison serve the rest of in prison to serve the rest of his sentence. The reason being is that there was some planning, the judge involves before the judge says involves before he, Jaswant Singh child started to experience psychotic episodes. He did plan to essentially kill the queen before he had Mental Health issues, as it were, when he was planning to kill. Exactly. But it just so happens on the day itself when he scaled the Windsor Castle wall and into Windsor Castle wall and got into the grounds the crossbow, the grounds with the crossbow, he he was experiencing he he was he was experiencing psychosis. Therefore , he did psychosis. And therefore, he did need to go into a Mental Health hospital. So thats what the judge weighed up and decided yesterday what does this say to us, about the state of us, cameron, about the state of security at Buckingham Palace . A rope because he threw a rope ladder and scrambled in ladder over and scrambled in this was not high tech mode of this was not a high tech mode of entry. Have things been beefed up since this incident . Yeah, this is incredibly serious instance that he was in the grounds for two hours before he was apprehended by police. He got as far as george iv gate, which is a private part of the grounds , very close to the grounds, very close to the queens private residence, away from the state rooms. And from the state rooms. And members of the royal family, of course , were in residence at the course, were in residence at the time. Counts of terrorism. Time. Now counts of terrorism. Commander murphy commander Dominic Murphy from metropolitan was metropolitan police. He was speaking yesterday and he said if been the if it hadnt been for the officers on day, it could officers on the day, it could have been a very different outcome. What does say is outcome. But what he does say is he he denies that the he well, he denies that the incident exposes flaws in security castle , but security at Windsor Castle, but he say that the he does say that the metropolitan police will be conducting what describes conducting what he describes as a learning to a learning exercise to understand how can do understand and how they can do better in the future. So clearly, some lessons to be learned from metropolitan police on this one. A lot of lessons to be learned there. Cameron walker, thank that. Superb learned there. Cameron walker, thank absolutely. Superb update. Absolutely. Think of people will i think a lot of people will feel thats a of a lame feel thats a bit of a lame response, isnt it . I mean, i dont like the idea that theres somebody wandering around with an crossbow already an armed crossbow already wanting queen wanting to fire it at the queen for inside windsor for two hours inside Windsor Castle Christmas Day. Mean, castle on Christmas Day. I mean, you couldnt yeah, he you couldnt write it. Yeah, he just. Just. Ridiculous. Just. He just. Ridiculous. Chucked over just chucked a ladder over and scrambled in. I mean, its a very rudimentary method of getting. Getting in to me. I dont think it proves that the system was working. It proves a huge hole in the system. But let us know your views. Gb views at gbnews. Com now another very now to another very controversial issue. The home controversial issue. The home office is continuing to convert the former raf base at scampton into a camp for Asylum Seekers, despite being told to stop work immediately. Yeah, west Lindsey District Council served the home office with a stop notice on the 22nd of september for breaching planning restrictions. But then since then the council and the locals say the trucks keep coming and work is carrying on. Some scampton residents have even set up tents at the gates of the site to monitor whats going in and coming out. And our east Midlands Reporter will hollis is at the site for us. Will whats the latest on the ground . Theres some spirit of resistance. Some spirit of resistance. Good morning. Yes if youre watching on tv, youll probably nofice watching on tv, youll probably notice the tents and the flags. Maybe if youre listening on radio instead youll hear the cars and the hgvs driving along the a15. Its quiet now, but i guarantee you they will be blaring their horns soon. This essentially is a makeshift camp just outside the gates of raf scampton, for where the last six months the home office has been building accommodation for Asylum Seekers. Now a lot of people in the local community have really been pushing back against this as long as well as the local council, west lindsey, District Council. Now 28 days District Council. Now 28 days ago, west lindsey first issued a temporary stop notice. But since then, they say theres been a breach of planning restrictions and that now is a stop notice , and that now is a stop notice, meaning that work should have stopped here altogether. But what im told from the local people like sarah from the save scampton campaign is that work isnt stopping. Sarah. Youve isnt stopping. Sarah. Youve set up camp here. Whats been going on with work at the home Office Inside . Well two weeks ago, the temporary well, the. The. Notice was applied , died the. Notice was applied, died and the home office have refused to abide by that at all. So the idea of setting up the camp is to be able to monitor all the works that are going on inside and to be able to report back to the legal team and to west lindsey exactly whats been going on and all the time that theyre breaking the law and what going on. What has been going on. Been here for the last youve been here for the last week or the last couple of weeks. Have seen going inside . Well, there was slowdown in well, there was a slowdown in works, but they just seemed to ramp it goes in ramp it up again. It goes in peaks and troughs basically. Yesterday we witnessed the cctv going up. Theyre still using in all the building on there. The lights were left on on quite a few buildings last night. But theyre still working in the buildings. Theyre still trying to bring lorries on. Now weve camped where actual camped up where the actual delivery try and delivery gate is to try and monitor whats coming in, but theyre trying to use other gates to get on the site , gates to get on on the site, which arent necessarily safe. So theyre also sort of being quite dangerous as well, trying to get bypass us to not be monitored. Monitored. And this isnt just you saying this. The local council as well say that theyve issued this order. Theyve heard from the home office saying that, yes, weve stopped work, but even council says that work even the council says that work continues youre continues and that youre breaching planning restrictions continues and that youre breabreaking|nning restrictions continues and that youre brea breaking the1g restrictions continues and that youre brea breaking the law lstrictions continues and that youre breabreaking the law byictions continues and that youre breabreaking the law by being and breaking the law by being here as a local person whos invested six months in this to see work, carrying on when theres legal notice, what theres now a legal notice, what does to you and other does that mean to you and other people as well . Does that mean to you and other peowhen well . Does that mean to you and other peowhen you l . Does that mean to you and other peowhen you think that the when you think that the people actually make the people that actually make the laws ones breaking them laws are the ones breaking them and abiding it . They say and not abiding by it . They say that we believe that we meet planning restrictions, signs, but any proof but theyve not shown any proof of if they were of that. Now, if they were confident that, they confident in that, surely they would there you go. Would say, well, there you go. Theres. Come theres everything. Come and have a no, were have a look. No, were were sort of abiding by all planning regulations , but theyre regulations, but theyre refusing let lindsey on regulations, but theyre refcheck let lindsey on regulations, but theyre refcheck on. Et lindsey on regulations, but theyre refcheck on whats lindsey on regulations, but theyre refcheck on whats goingiey on regulations, but theyre refcheck on whats going on. An regulations, but theyre refcheck on whats going on. So to check on whats going on. So that just big rat to check on whats going on. So thatjust big rat i can smell that just big rat i can smell there the stop notice hasnt been rejected by the government. Its important to notice that. But the home office in a statement have said that they are considering the implications, but they dont think that theyve broken any planning restriction laws. Sarah the rains coming down now, but were morning. Sarah were here all morning. Well , thank you very okay, well, thank you very much. It looks a bit bleak much. It looks a bit bleak there. It looks as though you have to get your brollies up as well as your tents. But thats what we need to find out about the weather. Aidan the weather. Heres Aidan Mcgivern. Very good morning to hello. Very good morning to you. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the office with the gb from the met office with the gb news fine and warm news forecast. A fine and warm day to in the south, but day to come in the south, but cloudy and breezy elsewhere with outbreaks places outbreaks of rain in places mostly parts of mostly the central parts of southern scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and north wales, where well see the wettest conditions. The rain, heavy persistent the heavy and persistent over the hills. I heavy and persistent over the hills. I think north of the central belt, therell be some brightness after initial rain clears away, will be clears away, but it will be windy cooler here with windy and much cooler here with that wind coming the north that wind coming from the north for north of scotland, for the far north of scotland, along showers. So 13 along with a few showers. So 13 celsius, example. But in the celsius, for example. But in the south, well, thats where the sunshine be at its warmest sunshine will be at its warmest with temperatures here of 20 to 23, perhaps 24 celsius. We keep some of that warmth into the evening and overnight. Certainly a breezy night and a cloudy night for many. So temperatures arent going to fall far for the Northern Isles. Were going to arent going to fall far for the norshowerses. Were going to arent going to fall far for the norshowers andiere going to arent going to fall far for the norshowers and a re going to arent going to fall far for the norshowers and a strong g to arent going to fall far for the norshowers and a strong wind see showers and a strong wind from the north, gales in exposed parts. But for the rest of scotland , actually, its scotland, actually, its increasingly by dawn with increasingly wet by dawn with some heavy rain turning up, especially west of especially in the west of scotland, elsewhere across the especially in the west of scoi some elsewhere across the especially in the west of scoi some low where across the especially in the west of scoisome low cloudsicioss the especially in the west of scoisome low clouds mistiness uk, some low clouds mistiness first thing this weekend, but it will lift fairly quickly and sunshine will develop widely across england and wales, the far north of england. Seeing a wet start perhaps, but the rain should ease off into the afternoon. Northern ireland seeing sunshine, but seeing some hazy sunshine, but for the central belt north into northern parts of mainland scotland, its going to be very wet through saturday with the risk of localised flooding. 24 celsius the south. Okay celsius in the south. Okay coming up, well have all the latest from the cricket world cup in india. Paul coyte will be joining us in the studio with that. This is gb news. Welcome back. Youre watching and listening to breakfast with anne and martin here on gb news. And the time is 828 and its time to go through all the sports stories now with captain coyte, who joins us in the studio. So europa action last night, liverpool in action, did they have they finally stopped banging on about that offside against spurs. Banging on theyve stopped banging on about were nearly week about it now were nearly a week on jurgen klopp, even though they won yesterday. Think they won yesterday. I think he did say done with it and did say were done with it and well on. But we will see. Well move on. But we will see. But its really its talk of world because yesterday world cups because yesterday they the world they announced that the world cup the future is going to cup is in the future is going to be all over the place, which obviously a big money making thing for fifa. Theyre going to say about fans we can say its all about fans we can rubbish then got the rubbish but then weve got the cricket cup which going cricket world cup which is going on, the one day world on, which is the one day world cup. Is the one that cup. This is the one that england won back in 2019 with the game ever against the greatest game ever against new its being played new zealand. Its being played in and england in india and england played yesterday it was a disaster yesterday and it was a disaster. It really was. It really was. They got mullered it absolutely first game against new zealand. That was the one that kicked it off. So england scored 282 for 9 or 50 overs. Then new zealand scored 283 for the loss of one wicket in 36. 2 overs. Weve got the average age of 31, which is the oldest squad in the world cup , whereas ben stokes is world cup, whereas ben stokes is saying, well, you know , youve saying, well, you know, youve got novak djokovic, youve got tom brady, youve got all the you know, there are all these. But, know, whether but, you know, whether its going josh butler was going to work. Josh butler was asked after the game, this is the england captain. You the england captain. Are you confident to going confident that youre to going turn and started turn it around . And he started getting a little bit iffy about it, yes, do it, saying, yes, what do you need that . He just need to do for that . He just answers, play better. And it was almost like thats in in almost like thats in a in a press conference you just press conference where you just want oh , but nobody ever want to go, oh, but nobody ever actually has nerve to do it. Actually has the nerve to do it. But very was but he was actually very was very it was very upset. But it was a terrible performance. Why they so dismal . You why were they so dismal . You know what . I wish i could put my finger on it was just bad. They on it. It was just bad. They bowled they batted badly. Bowled badly. They batted badly. It as if theyre going to it seemed as if theyre going to go there and. Right, lets go in there and. Right, lets 9 go in there and. Right, lets go, but they go, swashbuckling. But then they just early. So just got out too early. So anyway, its early days. Well see. Weve the rugby see. But as weve got the Rugby World Cup now, this is where things are now getting to the business the pool business end because the pool stage is when theres less interest. But when we get to the interest. But when we get to the knockout stage , which happens in knockout stage, which happens in a week, thats when all the interest is going to ramp up. Now, tomorrow , wales are playing now, tomorrow, wales are playing georgia at 2 00. Wales are already through to the to the knockout england have knockout stage and england have got 445. But got samoa. Thats at 445. But the really big one is ireland versus scotland. Now south versus scotland. Now south africa are top of their pool and weve got ireland and scotland playing against each other. Playing against each other. Ireland number one in the world. So you would think ireland are going but there is way going to win. But there is a way that ireland scotland can that ireland and scotland can qualify. That ireland and scotland can qualify. Bannau i mean, youd never want collusion, would you . But in you know, quietly. And how would they decide . How would they do that . How would they do that . Right. Its very, very its really , really simple. Martin really, really simple. Martin ill scotland need to beat ireland by 20 points or more, right . Which already we will have people raising their eyebrows with a bonus point. That would be and then ireland, in the same game would have to score four or more tries us, which means they would get a bonus point. This is and youre giving me that look. No, honestly lost me. Listen, i could take a lot. Its very unlikely, but it wont happen. Happened. But if it did , could happened. But if it did, could it . Well, it could. It could. It . Well, it could. It could. And it would be possible. And i and it would be possible. And i just wonder whether they would say, listen, you know, we could do other favour here. Do each other a favour here. Means south africa, so that means south africa, get the bullet. Africa, the current and south africa, the current world champions would out if world champions would be out if that happened. So well just have to see. And that would be on going on in the scotland going through, great. Through, which would be great. Makes interesting to watch. Would make it very it would make it very interesting to watch, especially if you see you see very if you see if you see very interesting ball. Interesting drops of the ball. And there we are just handing oven and there we are just handing over. But, know, would it over. But, you know, it would it would wouldnt it . Would be great, wouldnt it . Yeah. Do they have on rugby. They have, yes. They do. They call it. So theyd being watched. So theyd be being watched. So theyd be being watched. Absolutely. Theres oh yeah, absolutely. Theres no get but can no way they get away. But can you imagine if it happened and it was a proper game and it actually did happen because everybody would be looking at that dodgy. That going, thats dodgy. And you actually, wont you go, actually, you wont believe this, but it really is real. Its one other story ive got this is with these got for you. This is with these chinese athletes. A very chinese athletes. This is a very strange weve got strange one. Now weve got a photograph two chinese photograph here of two chinese athletes. Is in the hugging athletes. This is in the hugging after after a race. Now there we are. Now, look at you are. Now, look at that. You cant see any problem with that, would you . Youd see the its right after. Thats lynn yunhui and wu jani after the 100 metre hurdles at the asian games. Now the only problem that china have is those numbers now theyre the lane numbers you see on the left. Yeah. A66 and on the other ones a40 universal three. Now that is the date of the Tiananmen Square massacre. Now were talking about whats going on with the rugby and whether you could actually orchestrate it this completely un orchestrated because its the lane they were drawn randomly. They hug each other. Theres a they hug each other. Theres a six and a four, but its a powerful image. Its a powerful image the chinese image because the chinese authorities looked at that authorities have looked at that and that we are not and thought that we are not allowed to put that picture. So theyve either had the picture allowed to put that picture. So thnthem, either had the picture allowed to put that picture. So thnthem, their had the picture allowed to put that picture. So thnthem, their athletespicture allowed to put that picture. So thnthem, their athletes winning of them, their athletes winning asian games. Its great for the country, and the country, but the six and the four it. So some four has ruined it. So some images, theyve either blanked out the numbers, which almost draws as well, draws attention to it as well, or social theyve or on social media, theyve completely cleared them off. But it wasnt them, but it wasnt a collusion. There was a random draw to get their lanes they just get their lanes and they just happened be photographed like happened to be photographed like that. Conspiracy theory. Yeah, well, but thats it yeah, well, but thats but it is. Theyve dont think is. Theyve i dont think anybodys blaming them, is. Theyve i dont think anyitheys blaming them, is. Theyve i dont think anyithey wont blaming them, is. Theyve i dont think anyithey wont let blaming them, is. Theyve i dont think anyithey wont let the ming them, is. Theyve i dont think anyithey wont let the image1em, is. Theyve i dont think anyithey wont let the image gor, but they wont let the image go out the rest of china. Out to the rest of china. Before we say goodbye, have you watched the David Beckham thing know what thing on netflix . You know what an of those things im an its one of those things im kind i i have to watch kind of i know i have to watch it, but its not something im desperate watch. Brilliant. Desperate to watch. I think the thing is for anneliese with all of for me, anneliese with all of these with these documentaries with generally the generally about sport, the person the star of it person who is the star of it will always be involved in the making of it. So how much of it the truth do we really see . I mean, youve seen it so i know rebecca lose cetera is rebecca lose et cetera is mentioned, mentioned. Mentioned, but mentioned. Hes hardly anything. That it was a roller. Yes. Can you imagine being at school and someone bringing in a rolls youd looking, rolls royce . Youd be looking, but, you know, was always but, you know, she was always going be posh, wasnt she . Going to be posh, wasnt she . No. What they called a posh. No, i think its charming, but, know, me im but, you know, tell me if im being hoodwinked netflix. Being hoodwinked by netflix. I dont i am this time. Its dont think i am this time. Its nothing like the harry and meghan. Welcome back. Its 839. Youre watching and listening to breakfast with anne and martin. Yeah. Shall we bring you up to date then with todays news papers . Well have a quick look at the front pages, first of the daily leading with Daily Telegraph leading with keir starmer, not bringing back hs2. Even if he does win the hs2. Even if he does win the next general election. Sounds like another u turn. There say there and the guardian say september heat was out of control. According to stunned control. According to stunned climate scientists in the mail, a terrible story. Nurses drugged stroke patients for an easy life on an nhs ward. Easy life for them, not the patients. And finally , changing the and finally, changing the tone. The soaraway star says the average brit now has just 3. 7 true friends as the uk is hit with the rise of billy nomates. With the rise of billy nomates. Well, joining us to go through some of the days headunes through some of the days headlines now, deputy Political Editor at the mail on sunday, Anna Mikhailova and broadcaster and journalist andy jones. Thank and journalist andy jones. Thank you for coming back. What do we kick off with . Oh, yes. Now, kick off with . Oh, yes. Now, this something i dont want this is something i dont want to talk about, but except you feel you have to. And this is the rise of bedbugs. Andy theyre apparently prevalent in paris, but theyre threatening to come here. Theyre already here. Theyre already ill tell you, already here. And ill tell you, ive steamed my suit twice today. Oh, good. I didnt want. I didnt want anything catching on me. But look there, having an explosion in france over the last ten, 15 years of bedbug instances. Apparently more than instances. Apparently more than 1 in 10 french homes have had a bedbug infestation since 2010. And were watching video for the sake of people listening on the sake of people listening on the radio, you wouldnt want to see it anyway. But its bedbugs on on trains in france, on the metro. Metro. In paris. In paris. Yeah, absolutely. And also, a lot of the metro trains in paris, they dont even necessarily have a lot of fabric on them. A lot of them are those hard plastic seats. So quite i mean, its not a case of when theyre coming here. Theyre to going its were going to going its when were going to have them here because huge numbers the numbers of people using the eurostar, using, eurostar, huge of people using, you know, transport suitcases, clothes , getting things clothes, getting things backwards and fonnards from paris and were seeing, paris. And also were seeing, you huge numbers of people you know, huge numbers of people coming say , other ways coming in, lets say, other ways across into britain. Across the channel into britain. And yeah , i mean, we managed to and yeah, i mean, we managed to wipe out most of our bedbug instances in the uk. Yes, weve had outbreaks before, havent we, after the second world war, the us. Called ddt to explosively get rid of them. But apparently the bedbugs are now resistant to that chemical. And theres been this explosion in their appearance everywhere. And were warned to check under your mattress , check check under your mattress, check your sheets, check your your bed sheets, check your suitcases. One guy is saying, dont leave your suitcases under the bed because they go from your suitcase to bed and your suitcase to your bed and back i dont know where back again. I dont know where im keep mine in my im supposed to keep mine in my tiny flat, never mind tiny london flat, but never mind on top of the wardrobe of my suitcase and never travel anywhere. And anywhere. It sounds safer and a e another unwanted invasion from a e another unwanted invasion frorif a e another unwanted invasion fror if they a e another unwanted invasion frorif they came over in if they came over in dinghies, they dont get put in hotels. Interestingly, hotels. But interestingly, joking aside, this is quite a story because this story in france because this week a sports presenter called pascal proud said that he blamed this on immigrants coming to france who are bringing them with them. Hes been cancelled with them. Hes been cancelled for as a result of saying this. But do we know to why they come in particular into france and then onto us where are they coming from and why . I mean i mean the nature of international travel. Now were travelling absolutely all over the place and it is a bit unfair to say theyre coming from Illegal Immigrants who its not a specific thing. I think its specific thing. I think its perhaps a little bit unfair that its been cancelled for highlighting this and but again, im not sure you can entirely blame it on Illegal Immigrants. These are things that are happening within. No, but the trouble is remarks like that almost be remarks like that can almost be an to hatred. Well, an inciting to hatred. Well, thats whats happened. And hes been hes been yeah. And hes been hes been slammed it, but hes slammed for saying it, but hes kind drawn the dots between, kind of drawn the dots between, you coming in you know, immigrants coming in from where they from countries where they are more its created more prevalent. Its created a Huge National conversation. Why dont move on something that doesnt peoples skin doesnt not making peoples skin crawl, papers crawl, listening to the papers or it will actually makes or maybe it will actually makes you it . It does. You itch, doesnt it . It does. Start about and you Start Talking about it. And you know, so many, so many know, you get so many, so many moths now, spent £8. Moths now, ive, i spent £8. Been battling moths ive been battling moths for losses. I dont want to start battling bedbugs as well. I spent £15 yesterday on lavender repellent put lavender moth repellent to put in those sort of in my wardrobe those sort of moths, clothes, moths, in my wardrobe those sort of moths, lets clothes, moths, in my wardrobe those sort of moths, lets clotion. Moths, itching. Lets move on. It freak you out , itching. Lets move on. It freak you out, anna . Does it freak you out, anna . This bedbugs. Bedbugs . This idea of bedbugs. Bedbugs . Of used to yeah. But im sort of used to it. These not. Not bedbugs. But i remember going to new york, and to be in and they used to always be in bedbug infestations new bedbug infestations in new york. And advice always in any and the advice was always in any hotel in to check under hotel you were in to check under the so im prepared. The mattress. So im prepared. Im. Im ready. Testimony in new york. Theyve had problems with its decimated. New york has are very expensive but its really reduced house prices in certain expensive but its really reduced certain rices in certain expensive but its really reduced certain buildingsertain areas in certain buildings because bedbug. Because theyve had a bedbug. Theyre very difficult theyre very, very difficult financial and say financial cost. And they say theres of different tips theres lots of different tips and on on what to do and tricks on on what to do about it. If you try to counteract but if you try to counteract it the chances are it yourself, the chances are youll only destroy about 90 of them if you leave any behind, they will multiply immediately. They will multiply immediately. So youre youre never going to be unless you get a professional in population of them doubles every weeks in your house. Every two weeks in your house. Goodness. Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. God. God. Yeah. Yeah. Change on. Will change come on. Will change come on. No, not. Lets me what . No, lets not. Lets me what . Theyre scared of theyre going to be scared of crumbs they see on the crumbs that they see on the floor because they think its bird. Bi rd. Yes, bird. Yes, its happened before. And theres no theres no point in getting freaked out about it and a bit politic acas rishi and a bit of politic acas rishi sunak his conference sunak gave his conference highlight speech, of course, this week. Had any effect in the polling . Well, this is the thing. Hopes of a big conference bounce hasnt havent really happened. So is a story on so the times is a big story on the that readers havent the fact that readers havent really havent really warmed to sunak off the back of this speech. And it was seen as a really make or break moment. I mean, hes only got a few of them left before an election. Hes got this. Hes got the kings speech coming up. But, you i was in the room and you know, i was in the room and yeah, he announced quite few yeah, he announced quite a few things quite few new very things and quite a few new very big things. But the showstopper was penny morden in terms of actual rhetoric. And in fact, in actual rhetoric. And in fact, in the room she was with bird, wasnt she . I mean, said the same i mean, she said the same phrase about ten times over fighting a military standing up and fighting or something. And it weird. I thought it was very weird. I thought the crowd it. She did . Yes. Crowd loved it. She did . Yes. Yes. Crowd loved it. The crowd loved it. The crowd loved it. I think its one of those things that works really, really well room. And then well in the room. And then actually, you watch it dispassionately when youre and she thought, my she probably thought, oh my goodness, that . Goodness, did i say that . Its an interesting one but its an interesting one because it felt to me like Penny Mordaunt was making her to mordaunt was making her bid to be the next leader of the conservative know, conservative party, you know, before the before rishi sunak as like the warm up act, if you like, to rishi nakedly making play for it. But it did go down well with the crowd. But is that indicative, of the indicative, do you think, of the fact the conservatives are fact that the conservatives are now so kind of listless . They just look anybody with just look into anybody with strong with a strong voice whos standing showing standing up there and showing some enthusiasm because rishi, by this poll, he by the look of this poll, he says great stuff. But he doesnt set peoples emotions on fire. Yeah, he he just cant shake off the sort of bank manager image, im afraid. Off the sort of bank manager image, im afraid. And it is image, im afraid. And it is hard. Its public speaking, being really good at public speaking is an absolute skill. Speaking is an absolute skill. Well, what did you think of his wife . Yes. Yes. Yes. I mean, was that nauseating or was it sweet . Yeah. Did you like it . Yeah. Did you like it . I mean , it was very i mean, it was very saccharine. I thought thats what i thought, too. What did you think . What did you think . It was quite nice to see a real human being, i think speak. But i mean, im basing him on his policy rather than who he shares. His beds and house with. Yes, but they but theyve yes, but they have but theyve made decision to have her made the decision to have her come stage be part of this come on stage be part of this new election campaign, really, and introduce him. New election campaign, really, ancitsroduce him. New election campaign, really, ancits this ce him. New election campaign, really, ancits this whole. New election campaign, really, ancits this whole thing about its this whole thing about appealing to women. But i think its quite patronising to that patronising to women that theyre going like theyre only going to like somebody of their theyre only going to like somtasidy of their theyre only going to like somtas ifv of their theyre only going to like somtas if that of their theyre only going to like somtas if that were of their theyre only going to like somtas if that were stillf their theyre only going to like somtas if that were still in 1eir wife as if that were still in the 1950s. I think its it was it was a it was a pr play, but i was interested in his policies and i didnt see enough in his policies. Not sure people policies. Im not sure people are lying awake, desperate to ban smoking tweak you are lying awake, desperate to ban srdegree tweak you are lying awake, desperate to ban srdegree namesik you are lying awake, desperate to ban srdegree names and you are lying awake, desperate to ban srdegree names and names of know, degree names and names of degrees things. I didnt degrees and things. I didnt think there enough there think there was enough in there for me to go. Yes, for me to for me to go. Yes, rishi, thought interesting rishi, i thought was interesting with because there was with his wife because there was a couple of pieces last week a couple of pieces out last week and you you no doubt about and you you no doubt know about this, theyre all saying this, that theyre all saying women are going to decide the next general election. Women are going to decide the nexwho |eral election. Women are going to decide the nexwho who election. Women are going to decide the nexwho who women. To opt who who women choose to opt for is cynically rolling your wife part of that for is cynically rolling your wife of part of that for is cynically rolling your wife of attempt part of that for is cynically rolling your wife of attempt to part of that for is cynically rolling your wife of attempt to make jf that for is cynically rolling your wife of attempt to make yourself kind of attempt to make yourself look more friendly towards the female look more friendly towards the ferrwell, its all i wouldnt be well, its all i wouldnt be surprised keir starmer starts surprised if keir starmer starts doing wife is doing it. I think his wife is quite too. Look, all quite charismatic too. Look, all politics is pr, its all about how politicians are packaged. But as andy said correctly, at the end of the day, voters arent stupid. They they can see, they can like someone in the same way that, you know, sarah brown, if shes gordon brown, no one said, oh, thats terrible. Everyone sort of liked her. But at the end of the day, at the polling booth, thats not the thing going count. The thing thats going to count. Say that bennett well, you say that bennett cherry blair was a huge part. I think of the blair machine, you know, was she was know, the fact she was she was so well educated and well thought i thought the thought of, i thought at the time, wing human rights time, a left wing human rights lawyer. Added lot to. But lawyer. She added a lot to. But what im saying is, you know, tony blair made a huge play of his wife as part of the team. Yes, did. Yes, he did. Yes, he did. And maybe were going to see a more that. A bit more of that. I think i think were going to see an awful lot more of mrs. Sunak. I think theyve decided shes a winner. Tell you shes a vote winner. Tell you what, lets talk about where you would retire to. Would most like to retire to. And i know that as youre watching listening at the watching and listening at the moment, youve probably got a view this. Think view on this. Do you think youve actually ended up in the perfect to to . Perfect place to retire to . Because a Consumer Group has named locations in named its 12 best locations in the uk retire broxbourne the uk to retire with broxbourne is you say it or is it roebourne . Broxbourne broxbourne broxbourne. Well, apparently thats leading and also leading the way and also featured list is featured on the list is newcastle under lyme. Staffordshire the staffordshire market town, the designer, town, once home to the designer, of course, of the legendary spitfire. Well, jack carson breakfasts. West Midlands Reporter more well, jack carson breakfasts. Wethis. Dlands reporter more well, jack carson breakfasts. Wethis. Hi|nds reporter more well, jack carson breakfasts. Wethis. Hi jack. Leporter more well, jack carson breakfasts. Wethis. Hi jack. Lep youre. More well, jack carson breakfasts. Wethis. Hi jack. Lep youre. Hiiore on this. Hi jack. So youre. Hi jack. About you are in jack. Sorry about you are in newcastle under lyme i think this morning. And that is one of the retire to. The top places to retire to. Yeah, thats exactly right. Its probably a bit too early for me to consider retirement, but of course lots of people around the country that might well choose this well be might well choose this place as the place to go. This all stems from from the which survey conducts survey that that it conducts every just every single year with just around a thousand of its members looking at whats important to people who are looking to retire. And one those is retire. And one of those is green space. And here in newcastle under lyme, it scored a 9. 6 out of ten for its access to green spaces. In fact, on to green spaces. In fact, on average every kilometre here has around 7. 4 parks or green spaces for you to be able to enjoy, particularly just up the high street from here is whats known as the queens gardens, which is as the queens gardens, which is a big pivotal part of this town, particularly when it comes to winning awards, because for 20 years in a row, this borough has won gold in the regional small city category. When it comes to when it comes to kind of looking at winning , winning gardens and at winning, winning gardens and winning horticulture. So this is a fantastic place. If you are a fantastic place. If you are a keen gardener particularly, but on the list as well. Other on the list as well. Other important things also include health care and access to health care as well, with with jenny ross, whos the which money editor saying its one of the most, of course, important decisions of our life, where we decide to retire Health Care Access top the list of most important things. 88 of people judged that so particular. Obviously, when youre older that having that access to your gp particularly, thats certainly why certainly some Scottish Islands have had have had a big rise in this list because of their proximity to a gp on average around 0. 6km for some Scottish Islands. Access to health care. So thats one of the important parts which tops this list. But of course as a town as well, its not of course just, just the access to green spaces here. Its also the house pnces spaces here. Its also the house prices as well. An average house prices as well. An average house price of £180,000 is also a keen factor looking factor for people looking possibly move here, whether possibly to move here, whether theyre selling their previous house and being able to live here. Mortgage their here. Mortgage free in their retirement course retirement and enjoy, of course , all those all those trips away and around this and trips around this place, which steeped in this which is also steeped in this history. Mentioned, history. You mentioned, of course, rj mitchell, the course, home to rj mitchell, the creator and designer of the spitfire, as well as of course, its links, of course, to stoke on trent, which is right next door to this town, and its links, of course, to the pottery industry as well. Theres industry as well. So theres plenty reasons here in plenty of good reasons here in newcastle lyme, why you newcastle under lyme, why you might want to retire here. But of its not just them of course its not just them on the list, likes of wrexham the list, the likes of wrexham as of its close as well, because of its close proximity natural proximity to areas of Natural Beauty as dee valley as beauty such as dee valley as well. So theres plenty of those names list. But newcastle names on the list. But newcastle under lyme here topping way under lyme here topping the way in green yes. In terms of green space. Yes. Okay jack. Go and get yourself well you go and get yourself a nice cup of cocoa and put your feet up somewhere in a coffee shop and think, on your shop and think, think on your retirement. Said, not retirement. But as you said, not yet. I dont know if we can yet. And i dont know if we can bnng yet. And i dont know if we can bring that graphic again, but bring up that graphic again, but for the for anyone listening on the radio, probably want to radio, youll probably want to know what it says. And here are your top list of places to retire to. The first is broxbourne. We then broxbourne. As we said, then elmbridge, then exeter high peak , then kirklees, then merton , then kirklees, then merton, then mid and east antrim. Oh, then mid and east antrim. Oh, its beautiful there. Newcastle under lyme there outer hebrides. Thats a long way to go and retire. Well, unless you live there already. South tyneside , there already. South tyneside, stockport and wrexham now the thing i think about these lists is are the locals happy if theyre, if their town is listed because, oh no, people are going to move in from london with loads of money and put the house price. But id never choose to retire somewhere that ive never but id never choose to retire before. Here that ive never been before. No, no. Surely you choose to retire that feel retire somewhere that you feel is that maybe your is home or that maybe your children now you can be children live now so you can be nearer them. You wouldnt just choose to go and retire somewhere more somewhere because it had more green spaces. Green spaces. Or like the outer hebrides, one. Lets just lets just move as far away any the as far away from any of the people possible. People as possible. Horses for courses. Horses for courses. I the idea of choosing i like the idea of choosing to retire. Most of us to retire. I think most of us are to going work till were dead. Mean, sadly, i mean dead. I mean, sadly, i mean people and a little bit people my age and a little bit younger. Idea of retirement younger. The idea of retirement quite agree. I mean distant vision. Poor jack there contemplating jack carson there contemplating his never his retirement. Youll never be able a pension. But youd be 90 by the time you your pension. You get your pension. Where would you retire to and where would you retire to if you had your choice . I mean, is there somewhere special thats is there somewhere special tha im a londoner. Im a londoner. Im a londoner. Youre a londoner. Youve chosen most expensive place. Chosen the most expensive place. When you finally have time it. Time to do it. I cant wait to get out of london. Ive been here. Ive been years. You been here 28 years. And, you know, im seriously contemplating moving in. Contemplating moving back in. Are you really . Are you really . Yeah, because want to yeah, because i want to exactly the same as you. I want to able to just pop out and to be able to just pop out and go and see a show or something without being entire day without it being an entire day out having to think about out and having to think about hotel there you go. Hotel as well. So there you go. Well anyway, let us know what you about the best place to you feel about the best place to retire somewhere that retire to. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from office with the gb from the met office with the gb news forecast. A fine and warm day come in the south, but day to come in the south, but cloudy and breezy elsewhere with outbreaks in places outbreaks of rain in places mostly the central parts of southern scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and north wales, where well see the wettest conditions. The rain, heavy and persistent the heavy and persistent over the hills. I think north of the central belt there would be some brightness initial rain brightness after initial rain clears but itll be windy clears away, but itll be windy and much cooler with that and much cooler here with that wind from the north for wind coming from the north for the of scotland, along the far north of scotland, along with few showers. So 13 with a few showers. So 13 celsius, example. But in the celsius, for example. But in the south, thats where the south, well, thats where the sunshine will its warmest sunshine will be at its warmest with temperatures here of 20 to 23, perhaps 24 celsius. We keep some of that warmth into the evening and overnight, but certainly a breezy night and a cloudy night for many. So temperatures arent going to fall far for the Northern Isles. Were going to see showers and a strong from north, strong wind from the north, gales in exposed parts. But for gales in exposed parts. But for the of scotland, actually, the rest of scotland, actually, its wet by dawn its increasingly wet by dawn with some heavy rain turning up, especially the of especially in the west of scotland, elsewhere across the uk, clouds mistiness uk, some low clouds mistiness first thing this weekend, but it will fairly quickly and will lift fairly quickly and sunshine will develop widely across england and wales and the far north of england. Seeing a wet start perhaps, but the rain should ease into the should ease off into the afternoon. Ireland afternoon. Northern ireland seeing but seeing some hazy sunshine. But for the central belt north into northern parts of mainland scotland, its going to be very wet through saturday with the risk of localised flooding. 24 celsius in the south. Aiden thanks very much indeed. Weve got a message for olivia or actually for olivias mum. Olivia says this might be a very strange request. However my mum, kay cook is a really, really big fan of gb news. She lives and breathes the shows. She has it on all day and even when shes in the car she whacks it on the radio. Happy birthday to kay. Happy birthday to kay. Just on whether she deserved gb news away. Good morning. Its 9 00 on friday, the 6th of october. These are the stories weve been covering for you this morning. Covering for you this morning. Labour has won the rutherglen and Hamilton West by election in scotland and took the seat from the snp. Earlier on we spoke to the snp. Earlier on we spoke to the snp. Earlier on we spoke to the shadow chief secretary to the shadow chief secretary to the treasury, pat mcfadden. Weve changed the labour party. Weve changed the labour party. Its now a very Different Force from the one that was offered to the electorate a few years ago. Keir starmer has dnven years ago. Keir starmer has driven that change as the country wants change. The only people who can deliver that change are the labor party and our scotland reporter tony maguire is in hamilton with all the reaction from locals on the ground. Ground. Good morning. Yes, well, im here in rutherglen speaking to locals after that big win for the scottish labour and Labour Party Last night, getting their second mp here in scotland as this the start of the labour retaking in scotland. Well talk about this and much more over the next hour. And a man who broke into Windsor Castle armed with a loaded crossbow to kill the late queen has been sentenced to nine years in jail for the crime of treason trial was sent back to broadmoor Psychiatric Hospital for further treatment following that treatment trial will serve the rest of his sentence in pnson the rest of his sentence in prison and on licence. Prison and on licence. And Holly Willoughby has been placed under protection after police foiled a credible conspiracy to kidnap the tv presenter. Our london reporter lisa hartle will have more later on. And the home office is continuing to convert the former raf base at scampton into a camp for Asylum Seekers , despite for Asylum Seekers, despite being told to stop work immediately. And still to come , immediately. And still to come, an exclusive gb news investigation has found that senior rotherham councillors knew and stayed silent about the towns grooming gang scandal. And aiden has your weather as we approach the weekend, its a significant contrast across the uk. Uk. Very warm for many this weekend but very wet in some places. Find out all the details in the forecast coming up soon. Well, its lovely to be with you this fair morning. Im anne diamond. And im Martin Daubney and this is breakfast on. Gb news. This is breakfast on. Gb news. Weve been talking about brushing your teeth and the fact that children dont seem to know how to do it anymore. And keir starmer says if he gets into government, he will bring in a rule that schools, Primary Schools must teach children how to brush their teeth as a way of saving dentistry inside the nhs i a a lot of people been saying its like nanny state gone mad. Others saying its a great idea. And diane in york, this is this is going to get your teeth curling in the 60s dentists went around schools and every child was they some sort was told they needed some sort of treatment. Well, of filling or treatment. Well, we ended up with unnecessary we all ended up with unnecessary fillings and gaps, even though we any issues at the we didnt have any issues at the time. I think thats why we all grew up hating dentists, at least says. Least i did, mel says. Think that all schools i think that all schools should just become boarding schools. Think schools. People seem to think that has to do that the government has to do everything to bring them and everything to bring them up, and if teach them to if they cant teach them to brush teeth. Yeah brush their teeth. Yeah and barry needwood says and barry in needwood says this are spot on about this anne, you are spot on about parenting. Started parenting. But it all started years ago with the do gooders who punishing who stopped parents punishing the they did anything the child. If they did anything wrong. With the teachers. Wrong. Same with the teachers. Andrew in Northern Ireland says, i was taught how to brush my teeth one day primary my teeth one day at Primary School, ones school, brush the top ones downwards bottom ones downwards and the bottom ones upwards. One of the few lessons i remembered i probably that i remembered i probably did that for good 30 years until i got for a good 30 years until i got an toothbrush and brian an electric toothbrush and brian straight to the point. Brian in sussex says, i taught kids how brush taught my kids how to brush their teeth. I dont need the school doing it for me. Oh, shall finish on a oh, shall i finish on a groaner . Yeah we were talking about that university about the fact that university are now offer a degree are going to now offer a degree or a postgraduate degree. I think in magic and the study of magic and josie says or josie, it may be says, i suspect my wife has done this degree without telling me because she makes my money disappear every day. All right. Thats straight. All right. Thats straight. Straight out of the kevin keegan book of humour. Oh, he of the dinosaur, allegedly. But i dont think so. Really . But i dont think so. Really . Okay, lets move to on our top political story, because labour has won the rutherglen and by election as and Hamilton West by election as and Hamilton West by election as a 20 swing Michael Shanks a 20 swing saw Michael Shanks take the seat from the snp. Take the seat from the snp. The scottish seat was vacated. If you remember when Margaret Ferrier was suspended from the house of commons for breaching covid rules, leading to what they call a recall petition. They call a recall petition. Yeah, comments in after the announcement , yeah, comments in after the announcement, labour yeah, comments in after the announcement , labour leader yeah, comments in after the announcement, labour leader sir keir starmer said the people in rutherglen and Hamilton West have sent a clear message. It is time for change. Speaking after the result, the new mp for rutherglen and Hamilton West, Michael Shanks, had this to say. It feels incredible to represent the community that i live in, the community that i love, but also i do feel the responsibility of the thousands of people that have put their trust in me. Met many of trust in me. Ive met many of these people past six these people over the past six months. Been a very long months. Theres been a very long by election campaign. And i know a lot of aspirations, the a lot of the aspirations, the challenges theyve raised challenges that theyve raised with now theyve with me, and now theyve put their trust to deliver on their trust in me to deliver on that. And thats thats hard that. And thats thats the hard work of us. Work thats ahead of us. Is the absolute this is the absolute extraordinary result, seismic this is the absolute extraorandy result, seismic this is the absolute extraor and y think , seismic this is the absolute extraorand y think , swillric result. And i think this will send waves through the snp send shock waves through the snp and historic moment in and a historic moment in scottish politics. I think scottish politics. I think scottish politics. I think scottish politics is fundamentally changed tonight. The of rutherglen, the people of rutherglen, hamilton have demonstrated Hamilton West have demonstrated that sick of to that scotland are sick of to failing governments. They want the incompetence and the chaos and the division to come to an end and theyre desperate for change and can now that change and they can now see that that change is with that vehicle for change is with the Scottish Labour Party. The Scottish Labour Party. Okay, we can cross now to our scotland tony mcguire, scotland reporter tony mcguire, who in hamilton. Tony, good who is in hamilton. Tony, good morning a great morning to you. A great night for labour and a for the labour party and a nightmare snp. What are nightmare for the snp. What are people saying on the ground . People saying on the ground . Morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Yes, well, certainly a bit of a mixed reaction here. Not the highest turnout yesterday here in rutherglen and Hamilton West. Just north of 30. You know, thats kind of typical for a by election but certainly speaking to people here, quite a few people this morning told me that they just never really bothered. However, quite a few bothered. However, quite a few jubilant faces as well. And just as i was sitting up first thing this morning, somebody approached me and told me it was going to be a beautiful day. And, and quite a lot and, you know, and quite a lot of happiness in air from of happiness in the air from him. And certainly the result yesterday. This was going yesterday. This was always going to be a tale of the two parties. Labour and snp, rutherglen and Hamilton West since its creation in 2005 as a constituency, she has flip flopped back and forth only once is the mp actually retained the seat here and certainly since 2010 its gone back and forth between snp and labour and of course the context of how this election came about. This is scotlands first recall by election given the breaking of the lockdown rules by Margaret Ferrier. So it stands Margaret Ferrier. So it stands to reason that quite a lot of various factors went into this. Now humza yousaf in the snp theyve blamed a big collapse in theyve blamed a big collapse in the conservative vote here in this constituency of going all directly to labour. But directly to labour. But certainly i dont think that we can overlook that the six months plus and that Michael Shanks and the team of scottish labour and indeed the labour the party have put into this constituency , keir put into this constituency, keir starmer has always maintained that scotland is integral to a victory at the next general election. And here at Hamilton West and rutherglen was his first chance to really raise the flag and start taking back scotland from the snp control. Scotland from the snp control. Katy loudon and the snp and humza yousaf. They call this humza yousaf. They call this a bit of a devastating, crushing defeat last night and certainly his priority now. This was his his priority now. This was his first electoral test as first minister since replacing Nicola Sturgeon at the start of the year and he will feel this loss heavy. While Michael Shanks and heavy. While Michael Shanks and labour and as a whole they will use this as a base camp to really spread out and start moving towards the next general election. Wherever that may be. Now certainly people here we would expect, for example, in the last general election there was a much higher turnout. There typically is in this constituency. So i dont think we can read too much into the by election result, but thats nothing to take anything away from this quite monu mental win, a seismic win as both keir starmer and anas sannar called it for the labour party here in rutherglen. Rutherglen. Okay, tony, thanks very much indeed, reporting there from hamilton on. But weve had an interesting view in from graham high graham. He says this labour win hasnt been won through great labour leadership. Its been through the poor been won through the poor leadership the snp. Yeah leadership of the snp. Yeah a lot of people are saying that and phil says those who and phil says for those who think country is in a bad think the country is in a bad way now, just see how much worse it would starmer and his it would be if starmer and his cronies get in. Absolutely. Disaster s phil not there absolutely. Disaster s phil not we there absolutely. Disaster s phil notwe may there absolutely. Disaster s phil not we may well ere absolutely. Disaster s phil notwe may well see who knows. We may well see who knows. 9 09 now. An exclusive gb news investigation has found that senior rotherham councillor knew new and stayed silent about the towns grooming gangs scandal after a series of our exclusives falls, councillor dominic beck to stand down as the labour partys parliamentary candidate for rother valley in december. Questions have been raised about how the local labour party came to even select him. Well, joining us now are Investigative Reporter charlie peters. Thanks, charlie, for peters. Thanks, charlie, for coming in. Can you explain to those arent completely those who arent completely across story happened across this story what happened and did gb news find out . Okay. The big update this morning is actually that five labour councillors are facing deselection after reporting deselection after our reporting on that situation. So we found at the beginning of this year that in 2005 there was a seminar where 30 labour councillors in rotherham were briefed in explicit detail by experts in the town about the ongoing nature of the rape gangs scandal going on in rotherham. And they going on in rotherham. And they ignored it. They did not act upon the information that was provided. The leader of the council, roger stone, was also in attendance. He later resigned in attendance. He later resigned in attendance. He later resigned in disgrace. Now the councillors who attended that meeting of that 34 are still in office and they said at the time that the reason why they didnt act on the information is because the police told them not to, that it would interfere with Police Operations. There operations. However there through gb news digging, we found that there was no active Police Operation at the time. The first one came operation central years later. Central several years later. Been a huge charlie, theres been a Huge National conversation kickstarted excellent kickstarted by your excellent documentary, grooming gangs britains shame. Its still on youtube. You can check it out if you to go and that. How you want to go and see that. How much this highlights this much of this highlights this scandal silence , the vacuum scandal of silence, the vacuum of silence, of inaction , an of silence, of inaction, an inactivity through fear of what . Offending communities or being called racist . What started the complete lack of will to tackle this grim problem . Several independent reports into the situation in rotherham first of the lexusj in 2014 found that a priority of so called Community Cohesion over the security and safety of young girls in the town caused much of the cover up and the failure to act there. So of these five councillors that weve been told we understand are now standing down. Two of them are facing direct deselection. Thats dominic beck, who in december stood down as the parliamentary candidate a gb news candidate after a gb News Coverage of his involvement a coverage of his involvement in a cabinet in 2015. They had to resign after another independent report said that the council was in denial about the scandal. Another councillor , alan atkin, another councillor, alan atkin, hes also facing deselection. I understand that hes not challenging that, whereas beck is alan atkin. When i phoned him at the beginning of the year to ask him why he hadnt acted after that 2005 seminar, i mentioned, told me he was mentioned, he told me he was just getting on with things, just getting on with things, just getting on with things, just getting on with his life. Now the other three, the other three councillors i should say, are standing down are volunteering, standing down and the Labour Party Spokesperson me last night spokesperson told me last night that Keir Starmers that under under Keir Starmers leadership robust due leadership they have robust Due Diligence to pick the diligence processes to pick the best candidates. If i could just add very quickly kissed emma was made the leader in 2020. Made the labour leader in 2020. All these councillors all five of these councillors were about were were talking about were re elected in 2021. So what has changed other than the gb News Coverage and the gb news Due Diligence . I cant say that theres been much. Okay. Well leave it okay. Well, well leave it there for the moment, but therell to say, wont therell be more to say, wont there . Right. All there . Clearly. Right. All morning weve been talking about the situation at scampton scampton , former raf base , which scampton, former raf base, which is now been earmarked as a place to be converted really into a camp for migrants who are facing processing, as they say. But of course the locals arent very happy about it. And our reporter will hollis has been there all morning for us. Still there at the moment. Will tell us what the moment. Will tell us what the latest is. The latest is. Good morning. Yeah very noisy morning by the a50 and somehow residents have scampton are able to sleep here overnight. Youll nofice to sleep here overnight. Youll notice the tents that are pitched up in the background. This is since the local council west lindsey district and forced a stop notice which means that the home office should stop working. But what were told working. But what were told from the local residents as well as the council is that from the perimeter, from the gates, they can see the home Office Working to make this migrant camp for 2000 Asylum Seekers to move here. One of the people whos been staying here is ashley webb from seven scampton. The Campaign Just describe for me what is it that youre noticing now and have been noticing over the last weeks while this the last few weeks while this legal order has been in place. Were noticing is, to so what were noticing is, to be quite honest with you, since the legal came in, weve the legal order came in, weve not a great deal of not seen a great deal of difference. You know, the workers coming on. Workers are still coming on. Theyre still still doing all their know, they their all you know, that they can of, you know, make can to sort of, you know, make the site what it needs to be. Were still getting endless amounts deliveries, whether amounts of deliveries, whether it portacabins harris it be portacabins or harris fencing know, fencing for, you know, protecting or even protecting the site or even security, you know, security towers for all that sort of thing, which are supposedly have heat cameras, all that of heat cameras, all that sort of thing so, you know, in thing on them. So, you know, in hindsight stop notice is hindsight, the stop notice is kind of theyve looked at it and they said, yeah, were going they said, yeah, were not going to that we dont to follow that because we dont need i dont know if they need to. I dont know if they think theyre above the law or whatever it is, but in actual fact, you know, the stop notice really great really hasnt been taken a great deal of the council deal of notice of the council says havent had says they havent had a rejection or a response from the home office to say this is wrong. The home office has said that they are considering the implications, that they think theyre right theyre following the right planning applications, following the right rules. Last the right rules. In the last hour two, noticed hgvs hour or two, ive noticed hgvs that going on through the that are going on through the main gate. Youve even been speaking to some of those lorry drivers saying, you know drivers saying, do you know whats happening drivers saying, do you know wha could happening drivers saying, do you know wha could potentiallyening drivers saying, do you know wha could potentially beig you could potentially be breaking the law. Yeah, of course. So the yeah, yeah, of course. So the other last week i parked my other day last week i parked my car up down at one of the gates, which they were using, and i just took a stand for myself. And i just decided that i was going to sit there. I was going to see what, you know, what the drivers had to say for themselves. Soon as themselves. And as soon as as soon driver came along, i soon as the driver came along, i was in front of the gates. Was sat in front of the gates. You know, i was being quite a nuisance in the hopes that it might didnt. And one the might didnt. And one of the drivers he said, what drivers got out. He said, what are for . Here why are are you for . Here how why are you and i simply you protesting . And i simply explained to him, and when i explained to him, and when i explained that it was in fact for office, he was so for the home office, he was so taken by it because they taken back by it because they were all being that they were all being told that they were all being told that they were delivering for the royal air know, once air force. And you know, once you that isnt you tell them that that isnt the at all. And quite what the case at all. And quite what it is happening, i it actually is happening, i think, know, theyre very think, you know, theyre very taken back it because taken back from it because theyre being to and ill theyre being lied to and ill informed. Know if informed. Oh, i dont know if thats so they can, you thats so that they can, you know, get them on their side to carry on doing the deliveries. But the drivers realise but once the drivers realise they than not they are, more often than not theyre the car. They they are, more often than not thejon the car. They they are, more often than not thejon the the car. They they are, more often than not thejon the phonee car. They they are, more often than not thejon the phone to ar. They they are, more often than not thejon the phone to their|ey they are, more often than not thejon the phone to their bosses get on the phone to their bosses and jump back out and say, and then jump back out and say, we with this. Of we dont agree with this. Of course, this hasnt been as course, this hasnt been used as an camp more than a year. An camp for more than a year. This is being used as a camp now for you guys. Im told that youre calling dunkirk now for you guys. Im told that youre ashley, dunkirk now for you guys. Im told that youre ashley, thanks irk now for you guys. After after i left tomorrows world, i, i absolutely understood that in this fast changing Digital World that were going to be certain skills which were really necessary and yeah, ive, ive devoted , you know, my life to devoted, you know, my life to helping young people understand the importance and the value of having some understanding of coding. Well youll know what its like to take a very tight count and i think weve only got about 50s left, left to talk to you. So go on, sell us coding and how youre trying to sell it to youngsters today.
