And it was me and one of my best friends. We were interrailing round europe we interrailing round europe and we took them in our took crisps and put them in our sandwich, must be a very sandwich, which must be a very british thing to do. And i dont know where it might be know where we were. It might be somewhere like slovenia and these over us and these locals came over to us and i so sorry. Are you i went, im so sorry. Are you putting crisps in your sandwich . Like, yeah, this is the best thing they were like, thing ever. And they were like, weird weird brits. Weird brits, weird brits. But then were were going then they were like, were going to try that. So maybe theres people eating sandwiches people eating crisp sandwiches in me. In slovenia because of me. Doing bit for youre doing your bit for International Sandwich relations. Am, yeah. So, yeah, maybe i am, yeah. So, yeah, the brits , i think were all the brits, i think were all a bit weird when it comes to our sandwiches. But these people, they take the biscuit. Think. Well, maybe yeah, i think. Well, maybe a biscuit in a sandwich. Maybe a biscuit in a sandwich. That sounds. Sandwich. No, that sounds. Let us what your well, let us know what your weird sandwich is. Yeah, your weird sandwich combination, please. Your favourite sandwich. Even mine would very favourite sandwich. Even mine woul egg very favourite sandwich. Good egg and cress and mayo. Thats very nice. Thats really. Yeah, thats what was my favourite sandwich. Favourite sandwich. I like. I like it. So its like a scooby snack. So i like ham turkey , tomato, onion , like ham turkey, tomato, onion, lettuce, mayonnaise , pickle, lettuce, mayonnaise, pickle, mustard. I like it so its so mustard. I like it so its so big you can barely get your gob around it. Wow. And would you make that for yourself . Yeah. Yeah okay. With cucumber well. Okay. With cucumber as well. Salad cream. So its just so big you can barely your head you can barely get your head around it. Thats order. Yeah, it thats a tall order. Yeah, it is. With just my cress. Is. Me with just my cress. Thats it. Do let us know your favourite sandwich if favourite sandwich combo. And if youre a sandwich. Psycho asani. Psycho so as the daily star would describe you as do, let us know. Vaiews gbnews. Com. Okay. On to more serious matters to our top story this morning because all migrants housed bibby stockholm housed on the bibby stockholm barge dorset have been barge in dorset have been removed after of removed after traces of legionella bacteria were found in the water supply system on board. Yes. The home office says no one fallen ill and the one has fallen ill and the evacuation was only a precautionary measure. Residents precautionary measure. Residents say they were told they would be moved the barge week. Well, joining us now is political commentator Peter Spencer. Good political commentator Peter Spencer. Good morning, peter. Top of the morning. Its always a to see you. What do a pleasure to see you. What do you make of the latest twist in the farce of the bibby stockholm . Its basically the only boat theyve managed to stop apps nicely put. I mean , it is just the latest i mean, it is just the latest instalment in a catalogue of catastrophe , is it not . And it catastrophe, is it not . And it begs the begs, well, a million questions. Actually. The first of which is exactly when were the Health Checks and the water actually initiated and when did the government get the answer . And how come that they had to leave it until the very till it actually got a few people on it before they shipped them off again . But it sort of it fits into this absolute disaster in terms of pr for the government because its the icing on the cake or the something extremely unpleasant in the sun, i suppose, to pick up on your earlier conversation , when the earlier conversation, when the government decided this was small boat week, bring idea small boat week, bring idea starmers away. So let let lets let lets lets big up how well weve done with it and we find that what theyve actually done is just cocked it up at every possible turn. But behind all possible turn. But behind all this is the question of why exactly are why is this such a widespread problem . And the answer is that there are getting on for 180,000 people awaiting their claims being processed out. And why is it taking so long . And the answer to that is according to the official inspector, that the in the home office, there are not enough staff. The staff theyve got are not properly trained. Theres a huge turnover because morale is low. Our colleagues at sky news have worked out they need to work three times as fast to make any serious headway in all of this. And i mean, what it boils down to is they cant actually seem to get the staff. Now, ive just imagined a chief fire officer saying, you know, wed love to put out all these blazes in peoples homes and save their lives and all that stuff. But we just cant get the staff. Does that answer no, it does that wash answer no, it does not, peter. I mean , this is almost i mean, this is almost farcical at this point, isnt it . As you said, its small boats week and this is something thats meant to stop the boats and the migrants have barely been on there a week. How does this reflect on the government, do you think . Theres one do you think . Theres one conservative minister going unnamed in the papers today saying that Suella Braverman, she needs to be sacked . She needs to be sacked . Oh, well, i mean, i suspect that there is going to be a bit of a groundswell against her because of the fact that at every turn she has done, she she has called it wrong. And for all these sort of the breathing fire rhetoric. And we have our rhetoric. And we have our esteemed colleague, lee anderson, saying that they dont like boats. They should f off like boats. They should f off back to france , which which i back to france, which which i think is a pretty incendiary remark. It fits with her sort of rather sort of bare knuckle approach to debate. But it actually , i have to say, it does actually, i have to say, it does rather lower the entire tone as well as exposing pandering, if you like, to a certain undercut of racism, which theres got to be and which im sure were anger and those on the liberal wing of the conservative party quite considerably so Suella Bravermans days as home secretary. I bravermans days as home secretary. I mean, bravermans days as home secretary. I mean, she was secretary. I mean, she was originally brought in because she was a sort of a handy sort of sop to the right wing of the tory party. But i suspect she is fast running out of time and next time theres a reshuffle, well, i would be anything but amazed if Suella Braverman gets the call from number 10 to say bye. Bye. You know, peter, there are accusations that jenrick, of course, was on his jolly in turkey, giving £3 million to the turks to try and clamp down on the manufacture of boats. He was away , as you say. Theres the away, as you say. Theres the work from home culture being blamed because there werent enough Civil Servants keeping an eye on the ball in the office. And then theres talk about were the unions politically motivated, the fire unions and the fire report, and then the health and safety people . Legionnaires, ive been an office block had office block that had legionnaires before. Is legionnaires before. We do is turn the on and flush it turn the taps on and flush it out. Not actually be fatal. Out. Its not actually be fatal. No one was infected. Does any of that matter anymore is this that matter anymore or is this boiling to the that boiling down to the fact that whatever they tried, the 100,000 mark been reached illegally mark has been reached illegally this week . They can blame the echr. They can blame turkey , echr. They can blame turkey, they can blame keir starmer, and they can blame keir starmer, and they blame the charity. They they can blame the charity. They can blame anybody they want. But this calamitous, this has been a calamitous, systemic. Systemic failure. Precisely. Precisely. Precisely. And i mean i mean sort of. And then you sort of go back. I mean , the Prime Minister has mean, the Prime Minister has known from the outset i would like to hope because he is an assiduous kind of guy, that there are systemic problems within the asylum Processing System. Um, and you cant help system. Um, and you cant help but wonder whether it was a bit of an unwise call on his part to include stopping the boats as one of his key priorities. I mean, it , you one of his key priorities. I mean, it, you dont have to big things up. I mean, you could you could big up people eating weird sandwiches if you like, and everyone would Start Talking about weird sandwiches as indeed you lovely people have been earlier on this morning. But earlier on this morning. But once you get people going on a subject, then you then obviously you need to get it right. Subject, then you then obviously you need to get it right. I mean, you know, you look at sort of everyones been talking about barbie just lately because theres been the barbie film and theres been the barbie film and the products been around for 50 years. But once you once you set the ball rolling, its pretty hard stop it. And so if, if, hard to stop it. And so if, if, if the Prime Minister has simply not gone big on small boats in the first place, we wouldnt be heanng the first place, we wouldnt be hearing so much about it. And the government would not be so utterly exposed as it is to the charge of complete, utter and abject incompetence. Abject incompetence. Okay, Peter Spencer, thank you, as ever, for joining okay, Peter Spencer, thank you, as ever, forjoining us. You, as ever, for joining us. Talking about barbie looking very pretty in pink yourself there. This morning in cornwall. As always, your trademark backdrop, Peter Spencer , thank backdrop, Peter Spencer, thank you very much for joining us this morning gb news breakfast. Thank you very much. What do you the bibby stockholm you make of the bibby stockholm and latest twist . Well, ive and the latest twist . Well, ive always a solution to always felt its a solution to something that we dont need. It shames us as as a nation, that its even there. Nobody wants it, no matter what side of the divide you sit on and the fact we cant even organise a whatsit in a brewery, i think just brings us just it just makes the country seem tinpot. Yeah it really does. And. 750 yeah it really does. And. 750 arrived on thursday illegally, probably another few hundred yesterday. Thats two barges in two days. I mean, this just it just isnt workable. Just isnt workable. Well, it just makes you think, doesnt it . I mean, where do we actually go from here . You would need hundreds and hundreds potentially thousands of these sorts barges if you actually sorts of barges if you actually wanted migrants and wanted to to, move migrants and asylum out of hotels. Asylum seekers out of hotels. And clearly. But then we cant and clearly. But then we cant house them in one. Thats right. And whats whats been really interesting about when you into about this is when you look into the that bibby stockholm the fact that bibby stockholm has successful, to has been successful, used to house seekers in house Asylum Seekers in rotterdam, netherlands, house Asylum Seekers in r0 germany, netherlands, house Asylum Seekers in r0 germany, workers rlands, house Asylum Seekers in r0 germany, workers rla the in germany, oil workers in the shetlands and similar craft shetlands and very similar craft were to house squatters were used to house squatters dunng were used to house squatters during the falklands war in port stanley, as it was called then. And there was no problem. And suddenly a calamity when suddenly we have a calamity when its when its its on our shores and when its asylum here, it just its on our shores and when its asylu like here, it just its on our shores and when its asylu like weve here, it just its on our shores and when its asylu like weve shot it just its on our shores and when its asylu like weve shot ourselves feels like weve shot ourselves in the foot at every juncture. In the foot at every juncture. And i want to know a little bit more about how this actually happened. Water system happened. Was the water system not checked . Well before these people were moved on board . I feel like that would be one of the first things look into. The first things you look into. Know a bit about so i know a bit about legionnaires disease, as i said, because i was in an office block, very office block block, a very posh office block in that had diagnosed in mayfair that had it diagnosed in mayfair that had it diagnosed in it comes in in the water system. It comes in if water isnt used. Yes. So if the water isnt used. Yes. So if the water isnt used. Yes. So if the water sits, its not stagnant. But if it sits, it can develop all you have do is develop all you have to do is flush system out and it goes flush the system out and it goes and nobody ill here. So is and nobody fell ill here. So is it much ado nothing or is it much ado about nothing or is it much ado about nothing or is it excuse they were looking it the excuse they were looking for down the boat . Is for to close down the boat . Is it health and safety gone mad or was it was it a necessary precaution . Whatever it was, its in the foot. Its shot this in the foot. Let us what you well, let us know what you make story. You will make of that story. You will certainly have an opinion at home. Vaiews gbnews. Uk on. Labour okay, moving on. Labour has accused conservatives of accused the conservatives of leaving the the exposed leaving the uk the most exposed major economy to Rising Energy pnces. Prices. Well, it comes as data from the International Energy agency showed that britain had the highest domestic highest average domestic electricity price of any country assessed by the global body. Lets get more in alice now from the director of export at unlocked, richard bartlett, joining us this morning. Hello to you, richard. So another day, another attack from the labour party on the tories. This time on energy. Can you give us some details about precisely why britain is so exposed to high pnces britain is so exposed to high prices when it comes to energy . Prices when it comes to energy . Hi, good morning. Good morning, ellie and martin. On a sunny morning as its just coming out. Yeah, i mean, weve talked about this a lot over the last year with gb news and gone through a lot of different areas. Were very exposed because we are a net importer of lots of things. We dont have a lot of usable things ourselves. The governments trying to work on that over a period of time. And give us some, you know, some figures there. The obvious that labour have found a lever to say that the uk are very exposed. We that the uk are very exposed. We know were exposed. One of my concerns and im sure its a concerns and im sure its a concern for yourselves that is, is how that affects the consumer going forward. Weve had high going forward. Weve had high pnces going forward. Weve had high prices and they dont seem to be coming down and thats a really big concern. Particular here in the uk and it worries you now that were coming into august, september, were seeing huge pnces september, were seeing huge prices in everything weve talked about supply chain on all different areas and it just seems that the government just seems that the government just seem to just reach out and seem inept to just reach out and just talk to people and explain what theyre trying to achieve. We see lots of snippets about theyre going to do this, theyre going to do this, theyre going to do this, theyre going to do that. But what does actually mean to what does it actually mean to the people now the cost where people now are really struggling the really struggling to pay the bills . Bills . What is the likelihood , what is the likelihood, richard, do you think, that these prices will start to come down, as you say, winter is on the horizon people start the horizon. People will start to anxious. Now about those to feel anxious. Now about those temperatures dropping in their homes. They they will homes. They will they will remember last winter and how difficult so many difficult it was for so many families up and down the country is there hope on the horizon is there any hope on the horizon in of the bills coming down . Well, you know, ive been looking at this. And as you know, ive been doing a lot of research on this. Were not seeing were not going to see a big drop. I mean, i dont know if you get i mean, i get mine direct debit. It comes in every month. And im not seeing any reduction its the reduction there. Its still the same still going same price. Its still going out, its the most out, but its the most vulnerable we know. This is vulnerable as we know. This is where is, you know, where the concern is, you know, and is that to affect and how is that going to affect we already seen huge increase in pnces we already seen huge increase in prices in everything to prices all over in everything to do food, everything, oil, do with food, everything, oil, everything, is everything, petrol. And this is just another people just another thing. But people need to heat their homes. And it is a real concern. We dont see a reduction. We think that a big reduction. We think that will so weve got will go into 2024. So weve got another year this. And as we another year of this. And as we all with anything that all know with with anything that tends up , it all know with with anything that tends up, it takes a long tends to go up, it takes a long time to down. It never time to come down. It never seems come down quick as seems to come down as quick as it kind of went up. And thats the worry. And its interesting to see forecast and to see the forecast costs and what expecting not what were expecting. Were not going to much change going going to see much change going into no what the into 2024 no matter what the government said to you, were not going to see a huge, huge change. Thats thats the change. So thats thats the concern forward. Okay concern going forward. Okay dont you think its fair to say its a bit rich at the labour party, richard, to have a p0p labour party, richard, to have a pop at the tories when effectively they dont have a way out of this problem either. For example, youre quite right, we a net importer, we are a net importer, particularly gas. Of us particularly of gas. 95 of us rely on boilers and yet we rely on gas boilers and yet we import like 50 of all of our gas, which seems crazy when you think we have the north sea, which keir starmer wants to stop. And we look at the numbers as a 312 increase in imports in gas, 20 billion quids worth in 2021. Most of that comes from norway, which by the way, happens to get most of its gas from the same oil field we do in the north sea. So in terms of ways out of this , energy ways out of this, Energy Sovereignty should be the way forward being self sufficient. Forward being self sufficient. Yet the labour party has said no more licences in the north sea. So arent they just guilty of the same crime as the conservatives . Conservatives . Yeah, absolutely. I agree yeah, absolutely. I agree totally. Martin and this is why i dont want to go too deep into this because, you know, labour are coming out with all these andifs are coming out with all these and its just its just fighting , between two , infighting between two parties. Actually, what parties. But actually, what youre going do, you know, youre going to do, you know, were island on own. We were an island on our own. We came, we had brexit, weve, weve the weve decided to leave the european union. Were going to be were not be self sufficient. Were not seeing that. And your earlier story about , seeing that. And your earlier story about, you you seeing that. And your earlier story about , you you know, story about, you know, you know, weve and weve got immigrants and migrants into the we weve got immigrants and migra seem into the we weve got immigrants and migra seem to into the we weve got immigrants and migra seem to be into the we weve got immigrants and migraseem to be ablethe we weve got immigrants and migraseem to be able to we weve got immigrants and migraseem to be able to do we dont seem to be able to do anything going forward. We should be able to do our own energy. We should be able to start now planning and be very clear with people within the uk. This is the plan and labour not clear. Theyre clear. Theyve said theyre going theyre going going to do this, theyre going to that. Actually to do that. But actually what they actually going to do they actually are going to do because energy is going to go up and and up and we get to and up and up and we get to a stage where, you know, it becomes becomes luxury and becomes it becomes a luxury and only youre going to only the luxury youre going to afford it. The people who can afford it. The people who can afford it. The people who can afford it and the vulnerable are going vulnerable. Going to be more vulnerable. So were more, more, were going to have more, more, more illnesses, more nhs pressures here because obviously people are not having the heating on, elderly suffering. You a real concern. You know, its a real concern. Ive got an 89 year old mother who watches news and looks at energy all and worries energy all the time and worries about energy bills , you about them. Energy bills, you know, shes one of few. Know, and shes one of the few. Shes got people shes lucky. Shes got people like you imagine who like me. You imagine people who are their own. So are vulnerable on their own. So yeah, to be very yeah, theyve got to be very clear with this. Martin get a plan in. Get a plan going forward. Just very clear. Forward. And just be very clear. Weve seen anything in all weve not seen anything in all the news weve done in the the news that weve done in the supply the news in supply chain with the gb news in the and a half. Were the last year and a half. Were not seeing any kind of involvement of anything that weve about over last weve talked about over the last year half. So it does year and a half. So it does worry doesnt it . Year and a half. So it does woryeah. Doesnt it . Year and a half. So it does woryeah. Richardt it . Year and a half. So it does woryeah. Richard bartlett, yeah. Richard bartlett, really to you this really good to see you this morning. Thank so much for morning. Thank you so much for your such concern, your time. Such a concern, really, it . Coming into really, isnt it . Coming into winter, just seeing those bills , theyre not down any , theyre not coming down any time soon, as richard just pointed out. And think it pointed out. And i think it boils down the same thing as boils down to the same thing as the stockholm. Boils down to the same thing as the it stockholm. Boils down to the same thing as the it just stockholm. Boils down to the same thing as the it just stockh imports were buying at the top of market theres a war. Of a market when theres a war. As a consequence, were all getting kind shafted and, you getting kind of shafted and, you know, dont its on know, i just dont think its on for parties to blame for Political Parties to blame each we need to put all each other. We need to put all that to one side and have a strategy in place means strategy in place that means lower for consumers. Yeah lower bills for consumers. Yeah well, do let us know what you think that. Think of that. Should we be exploiting our resources in the north sea as the would like, with the tories would like, with those 100 new licences . Should we be investing green energy . We be investing in green energy . Should be totally should we be totally self sufficient . Do you let us know think . Know what you think . Vaiews gbnews. Com. But first lets have a look at the weather for you. For you. That warm feeling inside from boxt boilers is proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. Of weather on. Gb news. Donna my favourite sandwich combination is that mashed potato sandwich. The bread must have lashings of butter, the mashed potato must be hot. Dont knockit mashed potato must be hot. Dont knock it until you try it, says donna. Oh, im not sure about that. Even texture wise, lumpy mash is actually white bread thats got merit. That one. No martin no, because the mash would melt the butter. It would become an extra buttery. I quite like that. No, no, sorry, donny. You havent won me on that one. Tony says sliced pork pie. Mustard. I mean, thats not too crazy. That sounds quite good on bread, though. Though. Its a step too far on buttered brown bread. Yeah. Yeah. Is that a step too far . Possibly. Just how is that a step too far but mashed potato in a sandwich wasnt. Thats just much kind of thats too just much kind of pastry. Bread. Itd be too much and bread. Well, were joined now by richard fitzwilliams, says richard fitzwilliams, who says prince harry should not return to the fold , and duncan to the fold, and duncan larcombe, who hopes there is a way back for him. Good morning to you both. Very, very good to have you both with us. So, richard, lets start with you then on. So they are a family after all, but you say there is no coming back for prince harry. Tell us why. Well, of course, youd have to have a remark , short memory to have a remark, short memory to have a remark, short memory to welcome prince harry back in the fold at the moment. I mean, youre quite right. The hrh removed from the website. The fact that meghan didnt receive birthday wishes from the royal family the fact also that it after they would evicted from Frogmore Cottage theyve no base at the moment in the United Kingdom, but the reason why you just simply have to look at the facts they were senior working royals for a remarkably short space of time and what happened the moment they were forced to step down because they wanted a half in, half out arrangement, which the queen didnt think was practical and it wasnt oprah. Oprah has done enormous damage to the royal family and there were the accusations of racism , were the accusations of racism, which two years later, harry, simply lifted and changed to unconscious bias. The facts are, however, that that was when he was promoting his memoirs spare, and that was damaging. He attacked his father. He attacked his stepmother, and he attacked his stepmother, and he attacked his brother. Endless harm. So if theyre ever to have a chance of turning to some form of relations with the royal family theyll simply have to show that theyll simply have to show that they can do things that do not involve constant, ceaseless attacks on them, said in an interview in the cut last year. I can say whatever i like. Well, thats what theyve been doing. Theyve been finding losing their spotify contract and theyve been finding also polls in the United States against them where previously there had been a tremendous amount of support. I mean, you simply have to look at what theyve been doing. And the issue is trust. Doing. And the issue is trust. Would you trust them . Would you would you trust them . Would you say, if you remember at the royal family and hypothetically they were invited back in some form . Okay okay. Okay. I need to bring duncan in at this point. Richard youre certainly not short of a word on this on this bright and early saturday morning. Duncan this story came about because the list came out yesterday of the roles, military roles for roles, the military roles for the royals and harry, for all of his faults, did two tours of afghanistan. He has military afghanistan. He has military experience. Of course. Hes experience. Of course. Hes outside the fold. No now, no role for him. And yet the princess of wales, queen camilla, even with no military experience may commodores and experience or may commodores and in charge of regiments. So it in charge of regiments. So it just sort of felt a bit sad to me and do you think there is a way back or is he simply just now too much of a black sheep . Yeah good morning. I think what richard says is absolutely right. We know the absolutely right. We know the reasons why harrys had this fall from grace , and it doesnt fall from grace, and it doesnt seem like really that long ago. Remember that the couple were getting married in front of 2 billion people and you had Prince Charles as he was then walking meghan down the aisle. Walking meghan down the aisle. So the loss of his military titles was something that that harry was not happy about. I dont know why he thought he could have his cake and eat it, but he did so , you know, i think but he did so, you know, i think harry is a member of the family and blood is thicker than water. I think theres always a way back. But as he told tom bradbury in his interview, im he said that the ball is in the court of the royals. Well, its not. And as long as harry keeps thinking that hes going to keep being an ousted member of the family, its not down to the royals. Theyve behaved pretty well with with regard to meghan and harry and duncan. Just on Richards Point about trust , do you just on Richards Point about trust, do you think the way back into the royal family for prince harry is if he can prove himself to be trusted again . To be trusted again . Yes. And theres a question of how long will that take . Because obviously now, even if Prince William wanted to, he couldnt pick up his pick up the phone to his brother and have a frank and full conversation and try and clear the air without fear of it being reported or podcasted or whatever by harry and the family. So that trust is gone. And how you regain that trust . Well, we he hasnt spoken out and dropped what would become known as these truth bombs. He hasnt done that for some months now. But i think it could take some years, frankly , could take some years, frankly, before theres any chance of that trust returning. And do you think, richard , and do you think, richard, actually the biggest barrier is his mrs. Is the only way back really is if he gives meghan the old royal heave well , of course, theres well, of course, theres a lot of speculation. Perhaps lot of speculation. Perhaps there always will be about the state of the marriage. But theres absolutely no doubt. Id say the marriage was pretty rock solid. I would say theres a tremendous amount since they lost spotify contract of lost the spotify contract of wondering theyre going to wondering what theyre going to do and its very, very do next. And its very, very interesting to see harry, for example , all his work for example, all his work for sentebale , the charity and the sentebale, the charity and the suit to his work for invictus. Suit to his work for invictus. Now these date back many years, and this, of course, was when he was a senior working member of the royal family and precedes his meeting with meghan and subsequent marriage. Its extraordinary. I cant i just simply cannot imagine harry and meghan returning under circumstances whereby anything that they say or do could be news or could be used by them in some television example, theyre supposed to have a book deal with random house, and we dont know where thats going. We harrys memoir, spare was very damaging to the royals, but nonetheless, theyre still three books out there. It could be meghans memoir, they harrys 400 pages that he didnt use in spare, apparently. And it could spare, apparently. And it could be something on harrys childhood technically. So you could have a change. Theyve got to prove themselves. Prove perhaps that they can do a great deal as philanthropists. Perhaps they go into politics. But something practical , something something practical, something positive that does not involve causing harm to or knocking the royal family and then perhaps , royal family and then perhaps, hopefully and i agree with duncan , i mean, its a very, duncan, i mean, its a very, very sad. Its a tragic situation. Then hopefully things situation. Then hopefully things might improve. And duncan , what do you think and duncan, what do you think the royal family want out of all of this . Do they feel like blood is thicker than water . Would they like to see . Harry, welcome back into the fold because he wants was one of the most popular members of the royal family oh, thats right. I mean, i remember reporting on prince harry when he was literally the royal the guys wanted to go and have a beer with and women wanted and have a beer and wanted to go and have a beer and perhaps a more with nothing perhaps a bit more with nothing could been nothing could have been nothing. Nothing could have been nothing. Nothing could from that could be further from that situation. Now um, what what do the royals , what do the royals the royals, what do the royals think of harry . I mean, i think theyre terrified of the way that harry and meghan in particular have behaved, and i think theyve behaved the royal family have conducted themselves brilliantly by not rising to the bait and getting involved with tit for tat across the atlantic. So for the royals , their. So for the royals, their strategy has has remained the same. I think theyre just same. I think theyre just sitting back waiting for the next bombshell to hit the floor, which which unfortunately seems to happen whenever harry and meghan actually need to sign a new deal or make some money out of their royal status. Of their royal status. Okay. Richard fitzwilliams and duncan larcombe, were going to have to leave it there. A lively debate. Thanks for your lively debate. Thanks for your input. And richard , you can input. And richard, you can certainly talk. Well done, captain. Know what you captain. Let us know what you think there because think out there, because yesterday said when we yesterday has to be said when we ran this story, there was very, very little sympathy for prince harry, harry out harry, former prince harry out there. The prince formerly known as harry, wherever he is now. But i just do feel a bit sad that, you know, the military thing was there and hes not a part of it. I still like the guy, for all of his faults. I do. Yeah. I actually think if he were to put his hands up and i dont think its going to be now, if he were to put his now, but if he were to put his hands up and say, look, ive made a mistake, i want to come home, i want to come back to the royal family, i want to do my duty the United Kingdom. Duty here in the United Kingdom. I people welcome him i think people would welcome him with arms if he could put with open arms if he could put his hands and say that was a his hands up and say that was a mistake. I theres a lot mistake. I think theres a lot of there. But prince harry. Of love there. But prince harry. Do think he would need but i do think he would need to leave a certain bit of baggage in hollywood baggage behind in hollywood before welcomed before he was welcomed back. That huge resistance that seems to be huge resistance to them as couple. To them as a couple. Let us know what you well, let us know what you make is blood thicker make of that. Is blood thicker than would like to than water . Would you like to see prince harry back in the royal family, here in the royal family, back here in the united let us know. United kingdom . Do let us know. Gb gbnews. Com. Gb views a gbnews. Com. All the news and channel good morning. Welcome back. Good morning. Welcome back. You are watching and listening to breakfast with ellie and martin. And lets take a look, shall we, at todays newspapers and the times lead with students to start term in hotels or bunk beds as universities refuse to guarantee accommodation in. Sounds all right to me. Our doctors striking to bring down the government thats on the front page of the daily express with the Doctors Union being accused of masterminding wave accused of masterminding a wave of as Asylum Seekers on of strikes as Asylum Seekers on the barge were removed from the vessel after a potentially deadly bacteria was found in the water system. Thats what the guardian reports on the bibby stockholm and the Health Secretary is facing pressure to scrap rules that allow patients to identify as women to share female only hospital wards. The daily mail lead with that and on the front page of the eye, a major Security Breach is being kept from the public after chinese and Russian Hackers break into the Uk Foreign Office. Well, its time to go through the papers now. Join us this morning is the journalist and author susan holder and the journalist and commentator ella ella whelan. Top of the morning ella whelan. Top of the morning to both. But before we dive to you both. But before we dive into your stories, can we have a look at this . This psycho sony story been leaning story that weve been leaning on this its a funny this morning . And its a funny old because things get the old thing because things get the viewers going. And its fair to say one has chimed with a say this one has chimed with a few viewers out there. Just quickly it goes to you quickly before it goes to you guys, not this julian guys, im not having this julian in coventry , when having a in coventry, when having a chinese curry always have a slice of bread and make a sandwich with rice and the sandwich with the rice and the curry sauce the morning after. Beautiful. No thats wrong. I think i could get on no, i think i could get on board with that. Oh, yeah, i understand that one. Carol says peanut and grape jam with Peanut Butter and grape jam with crisps. Well thats. Thats just information overload. Peanut butter and jam is quite nice. Im not sure about adding crisps into the combo there. And brian says cheese spread yeah. And spread and crisps. Yeah. And peanut and strawberry Peanut Butter and strawberry jam. Brian those arent jam. So brian yeah those arent too its, theyre too crazy. I think its, theyre a theyre a bit normal. A bit, theyre a bit normal. Lets turn to you guys. The high, brow intellectual high, high brow intellectual debate whats debate this morning. Yes. Whats your weird sandwich . Debate this morning. Yes. Whats your well, weird sandwich . Debate this morning. Yes. Whats your well, dontd sandwich . Debate this morning. Yes. Whats your well, dont thinkdwich . Debate this morning. Yes. Whats your well, dont think its h . Weird. I always have my bacon sandwich with brown sauce and marmalade. Marmalade always marmalade. Marmalade always marmalade with bacon. Yeah well, its only like kind of, i dont know, like a kind of a chutney sort of thing, but every cafe i go to for breakfast and i go to a few, they all know that i do that and they do it all perfectly. And actually dont knockit perfectly. And actually dont knock it till youve tried it, because honestly, its i could eat it right now. Bacon marmalade, sauce. Eat it right now. Bacon ma thats. 3, sauce. Eat it right now. Bacon ma thats. 3, the uce. Eat it right now. Bacon ma thats. 3, the old sues thats. Thats the old sues special. About special. What about you . I its a very irish i dont. I its a very irish thing to make everything into a sandwich. So, you know, any dinner put between two dinner can be put between two pieces bread, i believe. But pieces of bread, i believe. But one we when we were kids was one we had when we were kids was always. Its that weird. Always. Its not that weird. Butter oh, butter and sugar sandwiches. Oh, yeah, yeah. My sugar yeah, yeah, yeah. My sugar sandwiches thing. Sandwiches were a thing. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, i mean, not, you know, obviously youd probably have obviously youd probably be have your taken if you your kids taken off you if you gave them to them these days. Yeah. Thatd a social service thatd be a social service but very nice. But its very nice. Yeah. Yeah. Lasagne two slices of lasagne in two slices of white bread is actually i think a of the time dont a lot of the time you dont realise youre making a sandwich, are. Sandwich, but you are. Itsjust muscle sandwich, but you are. Its just muscle memory. Its just like muscle memory. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Fair enough. Anyway, on to the intellectual now. Yes, the intellectual stuff now. Yes, susan, with susan, lets start with you, shall we . This story about students and this story about students to hotels or bunk to start term in hotels or bunk beds. In the times. Beds. Its in the times. Yeah. As if. As if to going a university at the wasnt university at the moment wasnt kind stressful enough for kind of stressful enough for them the debt theyre them with all the debt theyre going and before going to get into and before they start studying and they even start studying and Everything Else, theyre being warned might be warned that there might not be accommodation. Bristol accommodation. And Bristol University is offering accommodation which university is offering acc0|verydation which university is offering acc0|very convenient. Which university is offering acc0|very convenient. And which isnt very convenient. And exeter says that theres five applicants place. Applicants for every place. So im sure it doesnt actually im not sure it doesnt actually in the times really describe why there is so much problem. But i there is so much problem. But i think part of it is the fact that people cant afford to move out into the maybe the private sector. Usually when you go to university, i know from when my son when you do the first year in the halls and then you tend to move out into the private accommodation. Yeah. So if the private accommodation to private accommodation starts to dry be an issue then dry up, it can be an issue then because they, they stick in the, the, the accommodation that the, the, the accommodation that theres the, the student halls of residence and i know when it is very important obviously that when youre at university that you do actually build that community that youre near enough to university, that youre with the people that youre with the people that youre studying with. I think thatis youre studying with. I think that is really important. I know when my son went university, when my son went to university, one the American Students one of the American Students that to liverpool study that came to liverpool to study where so far out that where he was was so far out that the other students took pity on him, said, well, why do you keep disappearing . Are not disappearing . Why are you not coming with us . Why coming for a drink with us . Why are late every morning . Are you late in every morning . And realise where he and when they realise where he was staying, because hed been put this accommodation, put in this accommodation, because hed applied from from abroad, took pity on abroad, they they took pity on him actually moved into illegally. But where was he. Leeds but where was he. Leeds he just like really well he was just like really in a very dodgy area right on the outskirts of liverpool. And it just was, couldnt commute it just was, he couldnt commute very easily, they took pity very easily, so they took pity on and tailed on him and he topped and tailed with in his with another student in his student for whole time student bed for the whole time they have his benefits. They actually which i thought actually shared, which i thought was nice of the was really kind of nice of the person did that for him, but person who did that for him, but not really you want not really what you want to be doing when studying. Doing when youre studying. Ella, if this is i wonder, ella, if this is just a symptom. Basically the just a symptom. Basically of the fact running out of fact were just running out of housing i mean, we see if Housing Stock. I mean, we see if people trying to rent people are trying to rent a house in the north west. There are going for every are 20 people going for every single now theres single property. Now theres a huge overload. Serco have hoovered up quite lot of the hoovered up quite a lot of the Housing Stock for Asylum Seekers. Dont seekers. We just dont have enough a symptom seekers. We just dont have enthat a symptom seekers. We just dont have enthat or a symptom seekers. We just dont have enthat or are a symptom seekers. We just dont have enthat or are students a symptom seekers. We just dont have enthat or are students being ptom of that or are students being especially by . Especially hard done by . Well, i think its a mix. Obviously there is. We know that theres housing theres a National Housing crisis and in the times it goes into detail the fact that into the detail of the fact that you know, for example, lots of landlords are requesting landlords are are requesting that up a huge that students sign up for a huge number of where that dont number of weeks where that dont match the academic match up with the academic year. And of you know and we know lots of you know they cant maybe they dont have a job in their first year and they cant afford rent over they cant afford the rent over they cant afford the rent over the so lots of young the summer. So lots of young people home. Theres people go home. So theres a kind of theres an issue there with housing, but its also the case that universities have i remember own university remember my own university of sussex they had sussex did this where they had huge affordable, huge amount of affordable, relatively least relatively affordable, at least when student when i was there, student accommodation. It accommodation. So it was like it was like living in bunk beds. We didnt mind it was very it was good it cheap and good fun, but it was cheap and they of knock all that down they kind of knock all that down and built much more and theyve built much more expensive and so actually expensive stuff. And so actually student much expensive stuff. And so actually stude expensive much expensive stuff. And so actually stude expensive of much expensive stuff. And so actually stude expensive of and much expensive stuff. And so actually stude expensive of and i much expensive stuff. And so actually stude expensive of and i think h more expensive of and i think universities are pretty, you know, that they are know, we know this that they are in terms of student intake pretty they take pretty greedy. I mean they take on they actually on more than they can actually provide so theres a bit of provide for. So theres a bit of a perfect storm going on here. But the solution is more housing and universities to and also for universities to direct a bit direct their resources a bit better. Should be a duty better. And it should be a duty to make sure that not that you house you at house everyone, but that you at least enough resources least have enough resources within local area links within the local area and links to you know what what 19 to make it you know what what 19 year old or 18 year old without the help of their parents is going to be able to work that out. If rents are sky high. Yeah you wouldnt think its a big ask , would you, ella, a big ask, would you, ella, lets stay with you. Zahawi the front of the daily express front page of the daily express. Is a claim that the. This is a claim that the doctors strike. The current doctors strike. The current doctors is politically doctors strike is politically motivated. Us a bit more. Motivated. Tell us a bit more. Yes, its a kind of obviously this is ongoing, but its a bit of a row happening between dr. Lawrenson, is the front lawrenson, who is the front man for discussions, at least for the discussions, or at least the media front man for discussions from the bma of doctor strikes, who is quoted as saying that, know , whereas saying that, you know, whereas the Scottish Government and Junior Doctors in scotland have called off strike action because they have organised agreed to this pay offer with the government , theyre ongoing in government, theyre ongoing in england. And he said that this england. And he said that this is because the difference is the scottish with the Scottish Government is a basis to government there is a basis to work and working work forwards and have a working relationship negotiate in the relationship to negotiate in the future. Steve barclay has come back and said ha ha, this is proof that you just dont like us, sort of anti us, that youre a sort of anti tory outfit and youre not willing to negotiate. The express goes into detail of saying that an example of this is that the on stage at one of the strikes on the picket line stormzys a song vossi bop was played which has a line in it which says f the government. I mean, look, the these the kind of mudslinging like this happens between Union Leaders and governments. I between Union Leaders and governments. I dont between Union Leaders and governments. I dont think i governments. I dont think i think its a bit of a distraction. I think actually whatever you think of lawrenson and theres been a lot of coverage of his private affairs in the media, whatever in the media, his whatever boards he sits on, whether he goes houday. Boards he sits on, whether he goes holiday. And also hes goes on holiday. And also hes as a lot of young people are slightly unmeasured in his tone sometimes. But the fundamental issue stands, which is that the Junior Doctors are saying that they particularly ones who are starting now in the beginning of their career, saying theyre coming in with a huge basically a huge the government a huge pay cut the government offers seems to me to be inadequate. And you have, you know, student debts, people who have gone into a certain level of skill who expect to be able to live a certain kind of lifestyle to support them, to do the hard work that they do. Wonder if this is just yet i wonder if this is just yet another or a bit lefty another unions or a bit lefty shocker know , the shocker and you know, the government are looking for a convenient cop out. Well, lets move on can, susan. Move on if we can, susan. Something weve been talking about at the top of the show, the ongoing debacle, the farce around the bibby stockholm, the only theyve managed to stop. Yeah. Absolutely. I mean yeah. Yes, absolutely. I mean , the whole has just , the whole thing has just become a bit of a of an absolute nightmare. And it looks like nightmare. And it looks like everything the government is trying just gets kind of torpedoed. And if torpedoed and sunk. And if youve actually torpedoed that, it would probably wouldnt be i wouldnt be surprised, actually. So, yes. So its theyve found the legionnaire bacteria. So obviously the few a handful of people that theyve managed to get on the barge 39 now have to come off it, which is understandable. No one has understandable. No one has demonstrated any symptoms as yet, but it could take 16 days for the symptoms to emerge. But also, obviously , the ascension also, obviously, the Ascension Island thing has also this this week been sunk. So thats not thats been dropped because its just unworkable on every level, i think. And a fourth £100,000 home office drone that was being used to monitor boats in the channel has also crashed into the sea. So they cant really catch a break. The government on this. Thats because this. But thats because probably every idea that theyre coming up with is particularly stupid and thats why, funnily enough, they dont work. So i really dont understand why anyone thought this was all a good idea. It seems to me its putting the cart before the horse. Theyre not dealing with what they need to deal with, which is the paperwork. Thats the thing that needs to be the main thing that needs to be done. Instead coming up with done. Instead of coming up with these schemes of barges or these grand schemes of barges or or, Ascension Island. Or, you know, Ascension Island. Its all just things that theyre coming up with to make it look like theyre doing things. And actually when of course, they and do them, it course, they try and do them, it all falls down nothing all falls down and nothing actually happens. Ella, do you so yeah. Ella, what do you make it . Make of it . Well, i agree with yeah, well, i agree with susan relation the susan in relation to the paperwork but also paperwork issue, but its also that are the ideas that these things are the ideas that these things are the ideas that these things are the ideas that the government have come up with seem so short term. So its sort you know, weve got sort of, you know, weve got a weve got a problem with housing sort of, you know, weve got a wevweve a problem with housing sort of, you know, weve got a wevweve just blem with housing sort of, you know, weve got a wevweve just been with housing sort of, you know, weve got a wevweve just been talking using and weve just been talking about this. We have to house Asylum Seekers in hotels that upsets local community. Upsets the local community. So well just put them in this barge here. You know, rather than should look at than saying, should we look at the picture, should we the bigger picture, should we maybe long term plans maybe make some long term plans to actually resources to actually have more resources or long term plans or make some long term plans within asylum system within the asylum seeking system to look at what doing, to look at what were doing, maybe it, maybe have some maybe change it, maybe have some more far reaching ideas rather than just sticking plasters and obviously the sticking plasters keep falling off. But the central issue, i mean, there still remains this is the tension here. There still remains this issue you. Remains this issue that you. Know, British Public clearly want there to be control over borders. Theres a debate as to whether thats more liberal or more conservative. Id be on the more conservative. Id be on the more side. But control more liberal side. But control over that over borders, a sense that things are working and that a system functioning. And system is functioning. And whats that been solved. System is functioning. And wh no; that been solved. System is functioning. And wh no ones been solved. System is functioning. And wh no ones happy been solved. System is functioning. And wh no ones happy whetherved. So no ones happy whether whatever side of the immigration debate youre on, it seems to me it you wonder if this was it makes you wonder if this was doomed from the outset. I mean, it worked in holland. It worked in germany. It worked for island oil workers. For shetland island oil workers. Its the phrase. Its the same the same phrase. And feels to me like an and it just feels to me like an accident waiting to be derailed. Torpedo, you, susan , torpedo, to quote you, susan, all along. Anyway, its one that will and roll on. Thank will roll on and roll on. Thank you much, ella whelan and you very much, ella whelan and susan we to leave susan holland, we have to leave it but see you again in it there, but see you again in the next hour. Thank you much. Thank thank you very much. Thank you. Now the annual summer pursued meteor shower peaks tonight. You can stay tonight. Now, if you can stay up, chance to see up, its the best chance to see one of the night skies. Most spectacular light shows. Geek on this. A bit of a geek on this. I love it. The royal observatory of greenwich in london recommends the time to recommends the best time to catch is between midnight catch them is between midnight tonight on sunday. Tonight and 5 30 am. On sunday. One the night owls. One for the night owls. Might see it. You head you might see it. You head into tomorrow. You might see it. You head intc i tomorrow. You might see it. You head inth t0|wellw. You might see it. You head inth t0|well do for my taxi window. Well, there you go. Well, joining us now is space scientist andy lound. Good morning to you, andy. Good scientist andy lound. Good m of morning . Of tomorrow morning . Good morning. Both. Yes, this is the exciting period, as always. Yes. Go out, look for the darker part of the sky. Unfortunately, the street, streetlights and things around, its going to cause a bit of a problem because it puts that glow in the air. But darker part of the sky. And youll see shooting stars could be between 100 and 200 shooting stars per hour during the peak period. But hour during the peak period. But thats in the darkest part of the sky. So youll see less than that. Youll see just the brighter ones in areas where the sky a little bit brighter. Sky is a little bit brighter. And course, are the and these, of course, are the remains comet swift tuttle remains of comet swift tuttle has an orbit of about 133 years and when comets get to the sun, they sublimate the ice is turned directly from a solid to a gas without a liquid phase and dust andice without a liquid phase and dust and ice particles come off it, forming the great tail. And forming the great tail. And that, of course, puts it like a taurus around the sun in the position of the orbit of swift tuttle. But there are clumps of this material and every year at this time, the earth passes through one of these clumps and the bits of material then enter the earths atmosphere and light up the night sky as these shooting stars in display. Andy of course, britain being britain, were always dependent on the on the ruddy weather, arent we . So these great things arent we . So these great things are happening and its always cloudy. Any idea what the outlook is going to be and where the place in britain to the best place in britain to catch spectacle is going to catch the spectacle is going to be . Thats a good question because weve got speckly cloud at the moment. I mean, last night i was out all night till till actually i havent been really to bed yet and looking out, but unfortunately the cloud came and it covered most of it up. And so youve just got to keep looking at the Weather Forecast because it is actually cloud all over the place and in some places its going suddenly clear. So its going to suddenly clear. So like else, its hit like Everything Else, its hit and miss really. Sadly, with these things, mean, is these things, i mean, it is worth going i mean, bearing worth going out. I mean, bearing in mind in the 1980s, i observed the perseids from the centre of birmingham. Bear that in mind, birmingham. Bear that in mind, the centre of birmingham. And yet we actually had a spectacular sight of very bright meteors going right across the sky. So so even with light cloud , you can actually sometimes see something illuminating the cloud from behind. So it can be worth from behind. So it can be worth going anyway. Even if youve got light cloud. But go to the darkest place you possibly can. Being safe, of course. And look in the darkest part of the sky and dont just look towards the constellation perseus. Thats where the tails appear to originate from. But they can be originate from. But they can be anywhere across the sky. Oh, it sounds like an absolute treat for the eyes. Andy, do we need a telescope to see this meteor shower or is the naked eye good enough . Naked eye good enough . Yeah , naked eye is good yeah, naked eye is good enough. Get yourself a nice chair to lean back in. A deck chair to lean back in. A deck chair will do fine. And lie chair will do fine. And lie back. Make sure youve got something to drink to keep yourself going. Some nibbles and things like that. Thats why its a great period of time. This is. Its. Its one for getting through 3 or 4 hot dogs or Something Like that. But yes, no naked, just a naked eye observation. Just lie back and enjoy the people with enjoy the seat. People with cameras, set cameras, of course, can set their settings it and try to their settings on it and try to capture across the capture them going across the sky thats always good sky as well. Thats always good fun to play. Its what were calling well, the daily star is calling sunny psychos. Its the weird combos that brits like, baked beans, sandwich was the top of the list. And also tuna and pineapple. Yes. Youre all very strange, is what were taking from this, andrew says. My favourite feeling is fish fingers, marmalade , bananas and mustard. Marmalade, bananas and mustard. Heres one i say. Ed in virginia , so youve ed in virginia, so youve gone to america, but youre still saying, ive enjoyed cnsps still saying, ive enjoyed crisps on my sandwich since i was a boy and still do. And my second, that emotion and i third that motion crisps are wonderful in a sandwich. Yes, jeff says fish finger and tartar sauce is his favourite. Thats. Thats pretty normal. Thats pretty normal. We allow that. Lizzie, is this is the curve ball. Try Vanilla Ice Cream ball. Try a Vanilla Ice Cream sandwich. Now, that sounds very good. A bit hard. Good. Itd be a bit hard. To going give that a go. Im to going give that a go. No, think be lovely if no, i think thatd be lovely if you it melt a little bit. You let it melt a little bit. Yeah. Yeah pudding. I can see that. And butter pudding kind of thing. Actually, want that actually, i want to try that myself. How my kids . Will myself. How about my kids . Will love that. Exactly. Andrew says, exactly. Um, andrew says, i think people are winding us up. Andrew says, favourite andrew says, my favourite filling leaves filling is dandelion leaves sliced radishes, raw onion cream filling is dandelion leaves sliced rtmustardaw onion cream filling is dandelion leaves sliced rtmustard andnion cream filling is dandelion leaves sliced rtmustard and on n cream filling is dandelion leaves sliced rtmustard and on leaves. | cheese, mustard and on leaves. See, actually , i think that see, actually, i think that could work. Its basically thats what you call thats a middle class salad sandwich , middle class salad sandwich, that is. Oh, thats quite strange ones youre on board with i think. I think its quite good. Yeah. Itd be itd be crunchy cream cheese would be soft. The mustard would give it a bit of a tang. Andrew, i think youre on to something. Yeah. You like it . You havent convinced me. Carol havent convinced me. And carol says i absolutely love mashed potato salad cream sandwich potato and salad cream sandwich or might board with or you might be on board with that. Hot or cold . Both that. Yeah. Hot or cold . Both delicious. Lots of delicious. And also know lots of people touch and people getting in touch and telling martin off. So earlier on, were yeah. So earlier on, were talking about the bibby stockholm it has stockholm and the fact it has legionella bacteria. I once had an office in london, an office block in london, a very posh block in very posh office block in mayfair, legionella in mayfair, which had legionella in there, landlord us, there, and the landlord told us, all you got to do is flush it out turning on your taps. Out by turning on your taps. Leave it going half an hour every day, right as rain. Apparently way apparently thats not the way it is. Keith legionella really is. Keith says legionella really cannot just flushed out like cannot just be flushed out like that. Is i did for that. This is a job i did for years. He my landlord lied. There is always low content of there is always a low content of legionella domestic so legionella in domestic water, so large systems be weekly large systems have to be weekly tested monitored. It tested and monitored. It produces levels in produces Dangerous Levels in stagnant water or large storage tanks and it is even more dangerous when its in spray form such cooling towers, form such as cooling towers, spray head taps and showers. So spray head taps and showers. So interesting point that legionella is always there in small amounts when the water is stagnant and remains standing, it can amplify, but youve got to give it a good flush out. Well, what would we do without you, keith . Its great because martin didnt know what he was talking about. And youre going blame landlord. Going to blame your landlord. The me a porky the landlord sold me a porky pie, which jabina islam the landlord. But of course, we are talking about this because it is our story today, isnt it . Our top story today, isnt it . It is. Our top story today, isnt it . It irso our top story this so our top story this morning. This 1 1 migrants house on bibby stockholm barge on the bibby stockholm barge in dorset after dorset have been removed after traces of legionella bacteria were found in the water supply system on board the barge. Yes. The home office says no one has fallen ill and the evacuation was only precautionary measure. While residents say they were told they will be moved back onto the barge after a week. Onto the barge after a week. Well, joining us now is political commentator piers pottinger. Morning to you, pottinger. Good morning to you, piers. Another week , another piers. Another week, another calamity , 100,000 illegals this calamity, 100,000 illegals this week. That was breached. The government are blaming the echr. Theyre throwing £3 million at turkey. Yet here we are back in dorset and the biggest stockholm is the only boat we managed to stop. Yeah, well, i cant remember quite when it was that lord reid said the home office was not fit for purpose , but it certainly for purpose, but it certainly looks like it this week. Its a shambles. Theres no other word to describe it. A total shambles. And its very embarrassing for the government, particularly for Suella Braverman. I hope she doesnt resign over this. I doesnt resign over this. I think it would be the wrong moment to resign. Theyve got to moment to resign. Theyve got to get out of this. But its going to take some time and unfortunately, although were only talking at the moment, about 39 people on this barge where the issue is far bigger as youve just mentioned, its going to be the focal point. And sometimes its the focal points that bring individual politicians down. The small for almost, i darent say, trivial because its not trivial, but i mean, it does seem that this was an administrative , bureaucratic an administrative, bureaucratic screw up quite frankly, and politicians are going to pay the price for it. So, i mean, youre saying you dont want Suella Braverman to resign over this, but there are calls for her to be sacked. Yes, i will come to that i think it will come to that because you say, an because as you say, its an admission of error. This was simply overlooked, wasnt it . I mean, the Water Systems should have into before have been looked into before these were moved. These people were moved. Well, course were well, of course they were looked. They but what looked. They were. But what happened there was a delay happened was there was a delay in test results getting in the test results getting back. Unfortunately, mr back. And unfortunately, mr jenrick in public and said jenrick spoke in public and said theyre absolutely safe before those results had come through. So he looks the immigration minister, Robert Jenrick, he looks very , very foolish now , as looks very, very foolish now, as does Suella Braverman. But does Suella Braverman. But again, i think shes got so much else to sort out. Were waiting for the Supreme Court judgement on the European Convention of human rights issue in terms of whether they can send the people to rwanda. Now we havent had that judgement yet. Everyone that judgement yet. Everyone keeps saying its imminent, but this doesnt seem to be any sign of it. But it would be helpful to have that so one could know one way or the other and then people would say, weve got to come out of the European Convention of human rights, which will provoke an enormous uproar. And i which will provoke an enormous uproar. And i think its the last thing the government needs. Its interesting because theyre blaming jenrick because he took his eye off the ball of course, he was in turkey giving them £3 million to try and sort the boat building and problem at source the civil service, are they working from home too much . Working from home too much . The bat noir of jacob rees mogg, are they in their pyjamas and missing the opportunity . But the book has to stop somewhere. And the fact of the matter is this just says time and time again , no matter time and time again, no matter what the proposed solution is, this is a government that just cannot organise a drink up in a brewery. Well, i think the problem is the home office is such a broad brief. It covers crime , brief. It covers crime, immigration, terror. Brief. It covers crime, immigration, terror. Theres immigration, terror. Theres been calls for it to be split in two for many years. And i think two for many years. And i think something does need to be done because clearly its not working ing and i think it would be better for Suella Braverman to try and sort it out than have to resign over this matter. Try and sort it out than have to resign over this matter. Oh, yeah. I dont think it would go that far up the food chain, do you . Theyll look for somebody to try and to kind of throw under the bus down the line. Yeah itll be a junior official who failed to send the results in the right way or inform the right people. Yeah. Where we from pearce where do we go from here . Because seems as though pearce where do we go from hmean,3cause seems as though pearce where do we go from hmean, werse seems as though pearce where do we go from hmean, we knowseems as though pearce where do we go from hmean, we know how s as though pearce where do we go from hmean, we know how big; though pearce where do we go from hmean, we know how big the ugh pearce where do we go from hmean, we know how big the back i mean, we know how big the back log is of Illegal Immigrants who want to claim asylum in this country. We need to house them £6 million a day being spent on hotels as well. Currently, it seems we cant even make seems like we cant even make one work. Were going to one barge work. Were going to need hundreds of them, potentially thousands as well. I mean, the barge was yes. I mean, the barge was never going to be the complete solution. It was filling in solution. It was filling in a gap and trying to get some people out of the hotels. The big question is whether the rwanda will be allowed to go ahead or if not, there is whether plan b, the Ascension Islands, which is at least a british territory, but but it would be a hugely expensive and take a very long time to put in the infrastructure and get any of these things moving. The thing this government doesnt have time. Theyre running have is time. Theyre running out of time. Theyre also the conservative party is shocking news today. Looks like theyve news today. Looks like theyve lost 16 of their membership. Lost 16 of their membership. And theyve also incredibly at the same time put up the subscription rates and why on earth theyve done that at a time when loyal conservatives are increasingly disillusioned with this government who dont seem to be doing anything that i would call conservative. Heres a question for you, piers. At the last general election in 2019, i fought in the election , i heard on every the election, i heard on every doorstep the tories simply said, oh, would be much worse under corbyn. That work with this corbyn. Will that work with this thorny topic of illegal immigration . Because they keep saying itll be much worse under starmer , you know, hes in bed starmer, you know, hes in bed with lawyers. Will that wash with the lawyers. Will that wash or just a symptomatic or is there just a symptomatic failure now at the heart of the conservative party, or is this something we just cannot stop and something that well have to live with . Because there are a billion people the world billion people around the world at any one time on the trail looking better life. And looking for a better life. And they choosing britain they are choosing britain because brilliant because were a brilliant country. This just something country. Is this just something were get used to . Well, i think its not just us. Its everyone. And a key point to me is that europe is a very big place and france is a much bigger country than the small island of great britain. We have much less space. Yes, let alone the facilities. And let alone the facilities. And the reason so many Illegal Immigrants choose us is because were a soft touch and we give them all the benefits they want and they can live, in their view , a far better lifestyle without actually contributing anything. In many cases. And so we are attractive. But i think the attractive. But i think the powers that be have to get together and try and look at an International Solution because these immigrants come from different places for different reasons, some of them perfectly legitimate, some of them not some of them actually coming here deliberately to start a life of crime or continue a life of crime. And i think the immigration problem is so big now and so international, it requires Real International collaboration and proper long term thinking , not short term term thinking, not Short Term Solutions like this ridiculous barge in dorset. Thats that was never going to be a key element in fixing the problem. In fixing the problem. I mean, but, piers, the context remains is that one of those five pledges from rishi sunakis those five pledges from rishi sunak is to stop the small boats. And it does seem well , boats. And it does seem well, ridiculous. Well, unfortunately , if you make pledges and you set yourself targets, youve got to keep them in politics. And its a very dangerous thing to do. Theyve done this and theyre not going to make looks like any of the pledges is the things are going. And the way things are going. And you know, i say, they dont you know, as i say, they dont have time to fix everything because these solutions are long term. Theyre not going to be sorted out in a year or even two years. Its. Sorted out in a year or even two years. Its. Not i mean, i feel sorry for the government and i mean, the labour party dont have any real solution. Their have any real solution. Their solution is to give more immigrants visas more easily. And i think that would just encourage more people to come. Encourage more people to come. So i dont see how that solves anything. And i do think anything. And i do think Martins Point is right on the doorstep. I dont think people doorstep. I dont think people would trust keir starmer to do a better job than Suella Braverman are far from it. Although i think immigration is not the number one issue as it has been in the past. I think the number one issue is the cost of living and then tax. And i mean we were very highly taxed as a country now. There are so many taxes that really you do question and a conservative government should be a party of low taxes, free market and encouraging Economic Growth. At the moment, were not seeing any of that. Great points well made, piers pottinger it does sometimes feel, i think, to a lot of conservative voters out there, they voted tory and they got socialism anyhow. Lets move on. Thank you very much for that. Superb pleasure. Thank you very much. Now, new analysis by the local Government Association has revealed spending revealed that britains spending on fixing potholes has fallen faster than nearly all other major economies. And this comes as the cost of bringing pothole plagued roads in and wales up to in england and wales up to scratch, has been estimated at a staggering £14 billion. Well, here to tell us more about what those cuts mean for the future of our roads is none other than mark morel, aka mr pothole. Good morning to you, mark. Very good to see you. We mark. Very good to see you. We remain, dont we, a pothole nafion remain, dont we, a pothole nation. The roads are in such a nation. The roads are in such a poor state. Why is that . Poor state. Why is that . Um. Lack of investment from decades. And you can see with these latest figures that the reduction in investment by successive governments has led to a situation where up until 2019, um, there was a, you know, only investing 51 of what we should have done compared to 2006. But thats even worse because that 2019 figure doesnt equate to what currently spend is 1. 36 billion. And if you include inflation, then were spending 25 of what we were in 2006 on maintaining our roads. Now, can i ask you , mark, a now, can i ask you, mark, a question that i hear so many times when my fillings are rattled out in the back of a taxi on my way to work, and that is where does my road tax go . Because people think, dont they, that road tax pays for the roads, but that isnt the case, is it, mark . No that got stopped i think in 1937. I think churchill raided it because theres quite a bit of money there. And at that time there wasnt the infrastructure. It all goes into a central fund and in the report it talks about the equivalent of £0. 02 per litre of fuel being ring fenced. I wouldnt do that because, you know, weve got electric vehicles and electric vehicles actually put more load and strains on the road network. I think need to back to think we need to go back to where do have a road tank where we do have a road tank tax. The Road Fund Licence tax. So the Road Fund Licence actually is applied across all vehicles depending on the weight and load how much they pay, there should be a minimum amount. Nofice there should be a minimum amount. Notice the government are talking obviously talking now obviously about charging vehicles. Um, charging electric vehicles. Um, but theyre very good at grandiose figures. Lots of money grandiose figures. Lots of money to you and me. But the core situation is we have not invested our roads, were rated. Based upon 2019 figures, 37th in the world for a g7 nation. In the world for a g7 nation. And were probably well down there, apart from being bottomed of the league table, weve probably been relegated to the Isthmian League and mark, is this a false economy . This a false economy . We so we let the roads fall into such disrepair when actually if we invested them in the first place and maintained them, then we wouldnt get these potholes in the first place. It wouldnt be so costly to fill them. In them. In yeah, i mean there was a yougov report or over ten years ago that said badly maintained roads was costing the uk economy £5 billion a year. Road that forward now to with the costs you know increase Everything Else its probably £10 billion a year but but you know government arent doing that its the taxpayer a road user thats picking up those bills. And picking up those bills. And dont forget cyclists that are killed or seriously injured and motorcyclists as a result of potholes. It is a total false economy. You can see the more progressive nations that have invested in their roads that dont have near the dont have nowhere near the impact and france has always invested in roads far more. I mean, it probably started in napoleon because he wanted to get his army across the country. Um, but, you know, historically, its been easy place for its been an easy place for authorities to cut. And i dont authorities to cut. And i dont think that government and the department of transport and the treasury really value it. Its a priority in the words. But well priority in the words. But well see what happens at the next election because, you know, perhaps we need a pothole party. Youve actually just took the words right out of my mouth because these kind of things really, really matter to voters. The big issues matter as well, like illegal immigration cost of living, of course, but amongst motorists , theres very much a motorists, theres very much a feeling now that cash feeling now that there a cash cow being milked dry, cow thats being milked dry, theyre through the nose theyre paying through the nose for tax at the pump. Ulez for road tax at the pump. Ulez schemes clean air. And yet were driving on roads that sometimes look like a third world nation. Look like a third world nation. Yeah, i mean, over £50 billion a year is recovered from from motorists through fuel duty , vat on fuel. Youve got a tax on a tax there, which i dont agree with whatsoever. Um, and you know , run for road fund you know, run for Road Fund Licence, but also residents pay into it through council tax and some proportion of the council tax is put in there where councils can afford it. I mean, councils can afford it. I mean, im not advocating that councils are wonderful. Im their biggest critic, but there are some of them trying a very them are trying to do a very good job in difficult times and its really good guys out its a really good guys out there want to do better. But you there want to do better. But you know, theyve got one arm tied up back and theyre up their back and theyre hopping one leg, hey , what morale. Really good to see you this morning. Pothole as you morning. Or mr pothole as you like to be named. Thank you very, very much. Good to see you this morning. Drive you this morning. Potholes drive you mad. Drives mad. So do mad. Well earlier on we had a debate is it time to forgive and forget prince harry because the military honours list came out yesterday of whos in charge, of which various regiments. Not time to forgive and forget. Not care about his he did not care about his grandparents, or his brother. And lane in devon echoes that forgiveness is not a one way street, and it needs to way, explanation and expression of regret. So it seems not many people out there are in the forgiving mood. Well, let us know what you make of that. Would you like to see prince harry . Welcome back into would you to into the fold. Would you like to see in the british see him back in the British Royal family . Let know royal family . Do let us know what you think. Vaiews gbnews. Com. But do stay with of the with us because all of the showbiz news good morning. Welcome back. You are watching and listening to breakfast with ellie and martin and world renowned supermodels, including Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford have reunited for an appearance on the front cover of vogue. Yes, the September Issue of the iconic lifestyle and fashion magazine will be available by digital download and on newsstands from tuesday. The 22nd of august. And here to tell us all about it is none other than our very lovely Showbiz Reporter , stephanie Showbiz Reporter, stephanie taoiseach. Good morning to you. Beautiful the supermodels, they are back together. Got the are back together. Got the picture here. When we think of supermodels , as we think of these four ladies, because they the term literally was coined maybe in the 60s. But it was really these four women who put it in the map in the 1990s when they came together for a vogue shoot, very fresh faces. And this is the first time in over 30 years that theyve come back together to reunite , to bring back the whole reunite, to bring back the whole fashion elite as people have been calling it. You know, dunng been calling it. You know, during that time , all four of during that time, all four of these women, theyve gone to on have big careers in the fashion industry. But Linda Evangelista , its good to see her again on the front cover because she shes been a bit of a recluse over the past few years. But due to a botched facial surgery. And, you know, at the moment, shes saying shes happy to be ageing though ageing gracefully, even though she so she is still having botox. So that does seem a bit of a contradiction. Contradiction. Can i just say that as as a professional Magazine Editor whos looked at many, many thousands of covers over the years . Yeah, this has to be one of the most airbrushed images i think ive ever seen of. And to think ive ever seen of. And to be fair, they are ladies in their 50s. Still look fabulous. Cindy crawford, i think looks amazing because she does she looks shes the most looks like shes aged the most naturally, fair to say. Naturally, its fair to say. Its of tweaking its been a bit of tweaking going here. Going on here. There is, martin. You know what it is vogue. Vogue is very aspirational. So even though vogue edward nfl to vogue under edward nfl tries to be about real beauty and natural beauty, you do have to think its a business and people still want to sell magazines. As you all they do have to all know. So they do have to give polished, give this kind of polished, airbrushed look. And also, when airbrushed look. And also, when youre talking supermodels youre talking about supermodels as reason why they are as the reason why they are supermodels is because theyre almost these aethereal almost like these aethereal characters that people always want to and admire their want to look to and admire their beauty but coming for these beauty. But coming up for these guys september , where they guys in september, where they will having series will be having a new series called where called the supermodels, where theyll about their theyll be talking about their rise in fashion rise to fame in the fashion industry from the till now. Industry from the 80s till now. Theyre very much been very lucky have avoided some of lucky to have avoided some of the fashion abuse that has happenedin the fashion abuse that has happened in the industry. Now so and were very much in an and they were very much in an era there was less social era where there was less social media and there was less kind of diverse when came to looks. I think its really nice to see the four of them back together. They are who you think of. Synonymous , arent of. Their synonymous, arent they, with modelling and stephanie, got you, they, with modelling and swanted s, got you, they, with modelling and swanted to got you, they, with modelling and swanted to you got you, they, with modelling and swanted to you aboutt you, they, with modelling and swanted to you about prince i wanted to ask you about prince harry weve been talking harry because weve been talking about him this morning. Do you think time to forgive and think it is time to forgive and forget . Thicker than water . Definitely think it is time i definitely think it is time to to forgive to forget because to forgive because is the kings son. So because he is the kings son. So there has to be that kind of respect there for him. I know hes gone bit and hes gone a bit wayward and stuff, but think its like who stuff, but i think its like who without has a family that is without who has a family that is perfect . Theres always going to be family troubles and arguments. And i think, look how long its been going on in this country, this kind toxic country, this kind of toxic relationship with prince harry and how long can we and meghan. How long can we really keep with this really keep up with this narrative . Think its kind of narrative . I think its kind of bonng narrative . I think its kind of boring being honest. And boring if im being honest. And i think, you know, the royal family weve had to forgive them for lot of things. You know, for a lot of things. You know, it might be a bit controversial, but weve had to forgive the king and camilla for their affair that behind us affair and put that behind us and as our queen and and take her on as our queen and give so why give her that respect. So why cant forgive harry and meghan . Well, theres lot of people well, theres a lot of people out there who dont agree with that. I mean, i this me that. I mean, i this came to me yesterday when saw the yesterday when we saw the military list came out military honours list came out and he was absent. Say what you like about him. Hes done two tours afghanistan. Hes tours in afghanistan. Hes earned his spurs. Bert the earned his spurs. Bert is the real is mrs. What do you real barrier is mrs. What do you have to leave that baggage behind hollywood . Have to leave that baggage beiwell, hollywood . Have to leave that baggage beiwell, ho|problem is you have well, the problem is you have to them a pair. Now, you to take them as a pair. Now, you cannot harry, we will cannot say to harry, we will take you back and not take meghan. But in meghans, the problem kind of problem here is meghans kind of turned her away, turned away from the society and the uk from the uk society and the uk lifestyle. Sense, lifestyle. So in that sense, thats theres always going thats why theres always going to be this division. But it would to see the family would be nice to see the family reunite again, too reunite again, but maybe too much damage been done. But i think the public, we maybe think as the public, we maybe need to change our opinion on that. Well, what do make of well, what do you make of rumours that the marriage on well, what do you make of rumrocks hat the marriage on well, what do you make of rum rocks between narriage on well, what do you make of rumrocks between harryge on well, what do you make of rumrocks between harry and on the rocks between harry and meghan you believe that . Meghan would you believe that . Believe that. I just i dont believe that. I just think that theyre doing it differently sense where differently in the sense where they be slagging they dont want to be slagging off anymore. They off the royals anymore. They dont want to be kind of putting this united front its like this united front when its like us the world. I think us against the world. I think now theyre doing now theyre probably doing things terms of things individually in terms of their how theyre their career and how theyre going promoting going to be promoting themselves. Think they themselves. I dont think they are. I think are splitting. I think if i think meghans playing it right, actually, think she actually, because i think if she does split prince harry, does split from prince harry, what is all this been for . Very true. Very true. Okay. Were going to have to leave it there, steph, sadly. But youve got some great news about the oscars going go broke. Well cover that next time. Cant one. Thank cant wait to do that one. Thank you much. You very much. Much, steph. Always thanks so much, steph. Always good see you your fabulous good to see you in your fabulous barbie pink. Yeah, you are. Pink paper. And pink paper. And pink paper. Shes showbiz pink, shes showbiz barbie pink, pink, pink, pink, pink. Yeah. Pink nails. Pink, pink, pink, pink. Yeah. Pink nails. Now, all and views from all the news and views from saturdays papers. Thats up next. Is gb news. Welcome back. Youre watching and listening to breakfast with ellie and martin. And its time to go through the papers now. And joining us this morning is journalist and author susan and author susan holder and journalist ella journalist and commentator ella whelan. Good morning to you whelan. Good morning to you both. Good to see you. And, both. Very good to see you. And, susan, start with you, susan, lets start with you, shall the front page of the shall we . The front page of the i chinese and russian i and chinese and Russian Hackers breaking into the Uk Foreign Office is quite alarming. Yes. Yes. Not with a kind of rusty key or anything. Its all through the computers, obviously. Yeah. To be too alarmist. Yeah. Not to be too alarmist about it because it did say that it does that they didnt get it does say that they didnt get anything was that anything that was that classified. There was actually not marked classified. What not marked as classified. What they problem is, of they got into the problem is, of course, is that its what could happen. So apparently its literally as simple as what you always tell your mum not to do. Dont click on the theres something dodgy link in an email that you dont know what it is. If you get an email from somebody and theres a link in it, dont click on it, people. The fact that i have to explain that to the Foreign Office, however, why were in however, thats why were in trouble, because trouble, isnt it . Because thats happened. And thats whats happened. And it would russian and would appear that russian and Chinese Foreign chinese hackers accessed Foreign Office Office Internal office Foreign Office internal systems. A major systems. So it was a major security inasmuch it Security Breach inasmuch as it shouldnt it wasnt shouldnt happen. It wasnt a major Security Breach. Fact, major Security Breach. In fact, they really get anything. They didnt really get anything. Only diplomats could be only that diplomats could be placed in in hostile environments could be at risk because their details were there. Thats as much as it was. The problem is with all of this is is the danger that is this is the big danger that weve isnt it . Its always weve got, isnt it . Its always going something cyber or going to be something cyber or something based. That going to be something cyber or sowhating based. That going to be something cyber or sowhat is| based. That going to be something cyber or sowhat is going based. That going to be something cyber or sowhat is going to based. That going to be something cyber or sowhat is going to be ased. That going to be something cyber or sowhat is going to be thei. That is what is going to be the undoing of situation. Were undoing of a situation. Were not i dont know why we worry about anything else because we have so much of our lives now tied up with things online and to emails and to do with to do with emails and to do with computers that literally if someone just kind of messes with that, were all done for and that, were all done for and that the risk it makes you that is the risk it makes you wonder, how much of an wonder, ella, how much of an issue or much we issue this is or how much we just a good spice or even just like a good spice or even last was chinese cars or last week it was chinese cars or spying on us. Theyre recording our conversation taking conversation as theyre taking videos electoral videos of us. The Electoral Commission into. Was commission was hacked into. Was it 40 sets of details , it 40 million sets of details, excluding home addresses . Were exposed . Is this just a part of the fabric of the way we live now, or is it something we should genuinely be worried about . Well, i remember a few months ago there was a concern about what cars of officials and ministers working for the government being hacked because there was technology within that that could be that could trace and things like that. Theres always been this concern. But i think the you know, susan points out the issue is actually it might be based within computers, but its always error. And but its always human error. And we so much worry about al. We have so much worry about al. And maybe later on in the next round, ill be talking about Oliver Dowden and panics about al the robots are going ai and what the robots are going to threaten us. But but to do to threaten us. But but most of the time it isnt a robot. Its a human error. Its a misplaced its a its a, a misplaced file. Its a its a, you know, an email thats mishandled or whatever. But there obviously there is, you know, obviously there is, you know, obviously there a serious question there is a serious question about but about security threats. But i think have also remember think we have to also remember that theres a background discussion or narrative to this, which is that you know, geopolitical about geopolitical concerns about china, about that always china, about russia, that always makes these brings these stories to the front pages, even if, as susan says, nothing actually necessary happened rather than some government officials being a bit red faced. A bit red faced. Okay, ella, lets have a look at the daily mail, shall we . And this is about gogglebox. It could be bad. Oh, could. In terms of killjoy sort of stories , this is killjoy sort of stories, this is one of the worst. But so , you one of the worst. But so, you know, anybody who watches gogglebox, i watch it religiously knows that. And you watch it for what theyre going to say. But i also analyse their snacks so each individual household or family. Yeah, has a different kind snack. Theres different kind of snack. Theres one family that has bakewell tarts slightly more tarts, so its slightly more middle class families who have sort of pop chips or something. And pan sort of pop chips or something. And part of the and its all its part of the fabnc and its all its part of the fabric of the show. But apparently, according to professor who , you professor tim spector, who, you know, disclosure is got know, full disclosure is got this new all organisation nutritional podcast and organisation called zahawi , the organisation called zahawi, the nutrition firm, which is all about looking at your gut microbe and institutionalising killjoy ness and by saying you shouldnt eat anything nice has said that its a terrible thing. And obviously, yes , eating crap and obviously, yes, eating crap after 9 pm. Not so good for you. You should be eating your dinner and thats about it. Because especially if you want to watch your weight. But Everybody Knows that you Everybody Knows that theres you know, when youre watching your Favourite Television shows, you like have biscuit, cup of like to have a biscuit, a cup of tea whatever else. And tea or whatever else. And i think its just indicative of the these the fact that these sort of stories keep coming up and this sort of hectoring keeps coming up. We cannot up. Is the idea that we cannot help ourselves but see bad things on television and immediately reach for the sweet cupboard that theres no self control within people. And thats obviously a nonsense. Theres a of snobbery, theres a lot of snobbery, i think, in it as well. Its like, you know, the working classes watch working classes who watch tv just help themselves by just cant help themselves by gorging and pizzas gorging on burgers and pizzas and becoming obese and a liability to society. Its like, can we just watch the telly and enjoy it . Yeah, its actually one the few enjoyable things one of the few enjoyable things left a lot of people there was snacking before gogglebox. Left a lot of people there was snathate before gogglebox. Left a lot of people there was snathate breake gogglebox. Left a lot of people there was snathate break itgogglebox. Left a lot of people there was snathate break it to gglebox. Left a lot of people there was snathate break it to mr3box. I hate to break it to mr spector, but you know, gogglebox didnt invent it as well. Its not. Not. Its linked. Not. Its not. Its not linked. Favourite telly snack . Settling down. I like a Dorito Dorito because they just endlessly crisps are available. Yeah. They are . Yeah. They are . Yeah. You cant you yeah. You cant have a you cant have open tube of cant have an open tube of pringles the house you. Pringles in the house can you. And theyre open without and no theyre open without having go there. You having to go there. You pop you cant stop. Having to go there. You pop you canwell p. Having to go there. You pop you canwell i. Having to go there. You pop you canwell i dont like dark well i dont like dark chocolate digestives and i have tried to on a diet, so my tried to be on a diet, so my husbands only allowed to buy dark digestives so dark chocolate digestives so that i dont want one at that i dont want one late at night. Them to the milk i prefer them to the milk chocolate. Oh, no. Yeah, i do. So the thing is, if youre desperate, though, youll suddenly of yearning suddenly get a kind of yearning for them. I wont enjoy it, but yeah, i wont enjoy it, but i will eat it. Yeah needs must yourself. Needs will eat it. Yeah nianother st yourself. Needs will eat it. Yeah nianother st youpleasure, ds will eat it. Yeah nianother st youpleasure, of must another great pleasure, of course, british booze. Course, is the british booze. Weve we talking about the wonkiest pub britain. Yeah. Weve we talking about the woni weve we talking about the woni weve we talking about the woni weve we talking about the woni brick. By brick. By brick. Absolutely. So theyve messed absolutely. So theyve messed with pub here. That with the wrong pub here. That most crooked thing about the crooked to be crooked pub, it seems to be quite happened to it, quite whats happened to it, actually. Disclosure, actually. Now, full disclosure, its Black Country. Im a its in the Black Country. Im a black girl. My first Black Country girl. My first ever as a journalist was on ever job as a journalist was on the country bugle. Thats the Black Country bugle. Thats how country i am. So and how Black Country i am. So and it would appear that the people locally to where this pub has been demolished it was it was bought it then caught fire just days later. And within 24 hours, days later. And within 24 hours, i think it was completely demolished against what the council wanted. The council wanted it to be preserved as much as possible and no one could get near the pub when it was on fire or when it was being demolished because as strange heaps of dirt had been put there, which seemed to be blocking now blocking peoples access. Now the local people are up in arms about this and the mayor andy street, the mayor of birmingham , andy street, has vowed he will want it. He wants it to be built back brick by brick. Whether back brick by brick. Whether thats possible or not, i dont know. But youve seen peaky blinders, havent you . Yeah. Were in the black were a hard lot in the Black Country we take our pubs country and we take our pubs very seriously. Is an very seriously. And it is an outrage the crooked house very seriously. And it is an outrhas the crooked house very seriously. And it is an outrhas been he crooked house very seriously. And it is an outrhas been demolishediouse very seriously. And it is an outrhas been demolished inrse very seriously. And it is an outrhas been demolished in this has has been demolished in this way. And people are very, very upset about and it is a real upset about it. And it is a real loss. Theres also some in the daily express, it also a daily express, it also has a slightly different where slightly different angle where it says that if you look at the pictures inside everything pictures inside it, everything was lopsided inside. It had was so lopsided inside. It had stood 260 years, but it stood for 260 years, but it started kind subside started to kind of subside because of a subsidence. There was grandfather clock, which was a grandfather clock, which which a very angle. Which was a very weird angle. Grandfather clock didnt seem to be kind of there. They suspect it was removed beforehand. So theres of kind of things theres lots of kind of things all place in the research all taking place in the research to see what actually went on. But wouldnt it be great if we could actually that back . Could actually build that back . That brilliant. That would be brilliant. And it seems to matter so much the local community well. I mean, after was i mean, after it was demolished to rubble, people were going almost were actually going almost like pay were actually going almost like pay this. Pay homage to this. One of the best things ive seen on the internet, people have putting up and have been putting signs up and one them and youd to one of them and youd have to come from the black come from the from the Black Country kind of understand country to kind of understand it. There was a big sign it. But it there was a big sign put up and said was bostin, which good was boston. Which means good was boston. Now Boston Boston broken. So boston. Boston means broken. So yeah, that Black Country have kind of taken it very seriously. I a of in i did a lot of campaign in the Black Country and you know, the Black Country and you know, the banks as ales for starters cracking cracking cracking point cracking point a bit. What i love is you bit. And also what i love is you have the cheese and onion cobs on the corn cobs. On the bars and the corn cobs. Theyre called rolls elsewhere. Yeah, cheese, cobs yeah, cobs, cheese, onion, just and theyre onion, cob just and theyre a cover pork scratchings west know Black Country pork scratchings the best on the planet and i think theyve theyve messed with peril with something at their peril here they really have here because they really have struck heart of something struck to the heart of something that really, really matters. Just the pub, is it . Its not just the pub, is it . Yeah. En 9 actually worked my husband actually worked for while. There for bankss for a while. There was was a kind of a big was a there was a kind of a big noddy holder advert with for bankss yeah. No, bankss bankss beer. Yeah. No, you cant mess with your pub, and certainly cant do and you certainly cant do whats here. And do whats happened here. And i do think there will whats happened here. And i do thi more there will whats happened here. And i do thi more to there will whats happened here. And i do thi more to come there will whats happened here. And i do thi more to come on 1ere will whats happened here. And i do thi more to come on this will whats happened here. And i do thi more to come on this story be more to come on this story for sure. There will two. Ella, there will be two. Ella, lets have a look at the front page of the daily mail, shall we . And this is a trans row over womens wards. Is a story thats so this is a story thats been a discussion thats been going on for a long time about whats happening hospitals whats happening in hospitals in relation provision relation to the provision and treatment relation to the provision and treatmen so have someone patients. So you have someone who comes and says, you know, my gender doesnt match with my biological therefore id biological sex and therefore id like different ward. Like to be on a different ward. Usually most of the time its a biological man, trans woman wanting to be put in a womens ward or treated in a womens ward. And, you know, there has been there has been some kind of consternation about this in 2010, the government said that it and dignity it was in caused and dignity v and was an assault to dignity to have wards. Later in 2021, have mixed wards. Later in 2021, there was a review to look at there was a review to look at the fact that there was potentially even sex offenders the fact that there was potentputy even sex offenders the fact that there was potentput on en sex offenders the fact that there was potentput on womenszfenders the fact that there was potentput on womens wards. ; the fact that there was potentput on womens wards. That being put on womens wards. That review seems to disappear into nowhere and so the daily mail has done this freedom of information request sent out with to all nhs hospital trusts, 65 replied. And of those 65 they said that they confirmed that they allowed transgender patients to use the facilities of their choice. And not only that , but of their choice. And not only that, but that of their choice. And not only that , but that there of their choice. And not only that, but that there was no restrictions on who counts as a transgender patient. Now, you transgender patient. Now, you know, i think nobody would have any problem with the idea that every patient, any problem with the idea that every patient , whatever any problem with the idea that every patient, whatever gender or whatever you are being treated with respect and dignity and being kept happy and safe throughout your medical procedure. Yeah, but there is procedure. Yeah, but there is a lot , much larger procedure. Yeah, but there is a lot, much larger question procedure. Yeah, but there is a lot , much larger question here, lot, much larger question here, which is that there are single sex spaces, particularly in places like hospitals are necessary for a reason. Its a very vulnerable, you know, ive just been in one recently having a baby. There is a particular a baby. There is a particular vulnerability to yourself when you are a medical patient, youre Walking Around with a hospital with your backside hospital gown with your backside showing, to showing, you know, you need to go to the loo in the middle of the things, the night. All these things, theres reason why single sex theres a reason why single sex wards important the fact wards are important and the fact that seems to that the nhs seems to be completely blind to the reality in relation to this and even to be as the male be going as far as the male reports that some trusts, you know, sussex the most know, in sussex being the most famous, but also north cumbria for having pregnancy policies that refer pregnant people or that refer to pregnant people or birthing persons, because as the nhs trusts states, Maternity Services have typically been designed as a cisgender women only service. Its as if that only service. Its as if that was the most terrible thing in the world. How dare cisgender women be the only one that have babies . This is just madness and its not only madness, its also quite dangerous because it means that womens hard won rights are safety. But also just our dignity, our privacy is on the line. And thats not to say that every trans person wants to come in and make people feel uncomfortable. Of course not. Uncomfortable. Of course not. But there will always be bad actors. Whats it going to take before we have a sudden outbreak of sense something is of common sense and something is done this because we saw done about this because we saw with the i of bryson case in scotland a bloke who previously had raped two women put into a womens prison that was reversed. When theres a huge outcry, theres a case here from march last year where a biological man in a hospital ward raped a patient, a woman. But was told it wasnt possible to be a rape because they werent a man. When because they werent a man. When did when did this go so badly wrong . Well, and when will they when will this stop . Well, we just have to keep talking. And i think women have to start standing up for ourselves a little bit more. Weve always done it. And we were never afraid to do it before. And women are becoming afraid to say what they really feel about this. You see, the likes of j. K. Rowling . Yes, because. Yes, because. Because none of us want to be cancelled. Thats not what anybody wants. None of us also want to as ella, just you know , want to as ella, just you know, perfectly put it, everyone is entitled to live exactly how they want and be treated with respect. And we all think that that should include women saying that should include women saying that women. And that should include women. And it also strikes me that nobody ever gets asked, what is a man . Were only ever asked to define ourselves constant. And i do ourselves constant. And i do think i mean, the thing about the hospital is really kind the hospital is what really kind of surprises me is the one place where you really do need to kind of to biology and talk of stick to biology and talk about what peoples sex actually is, is when youre receiving medical treatment, youre at your most vulnerable. Well , its not that. Well, its not just that. Well, its not just that. That you you can its just that you you can you can identify how you you can you can identify how you like can live way you like you can live the way you want. Can wear what you want want. You can wear what you want to wear, you cannot say that to wear, but you cannot say that you are one if youre you are one thing if youre being treated medically for another. I think will another. And i think what will happen is a generation happen is this is a generation when we get a few years down the line and people who have lived happily however they want for you start receiving having to you start receiving or having to receive. Unfortunately medical treatment things are to treatment for things that are to do biological sex, it do with their biological sex, it will come home to everybody that actually there are things that you cant get away and you cant get away from. And when dealing when youre dealing with somebody prostate or youre deaung somebody prostate or youre dealing somebodys or dealing with somebodys womb or their is biology. Their ovaries, that is biology. And you can present and live how you wish, but you cannot blur the lines in a medical environment. And i dont think environment. And i dont think its very healthy to do that because you could make mistake. Because you could make mistake. And i think when mistakes start happening that actually unfortunately might affect transgender people , then maybe transgender people, then maybe people will will wake up even more. But i do think women have to start speaking out for themselves saying we up with themselves and saying we up with this. We will not put. Yeah, well, will have a yeah, well, you will have a view that at home. Do let us view on that at home. Do let us know you make that. Know what you make of that. Vaiews gbnews. Uk im susan. Lets a look at the times. Lets have a look at the times. Well stay you. And this is well stay with you. And this is an interesting one. Youngsters are apparently seeking lazy are apparently seeking out lazy girl about that. Girl jobs. Tell us about that. Well, yeah, ive picked this one its actually the one because its actually the conversation had with my conversation that i had with my cab this morning, strangely. So according to having a conversation early in the morning, he was very chatty. It was very actually. Woke was very good, actually. He woke me it was lovely. So, me right up. It was lovely. So, yes. So this is in the times and it says that on tiktok. I mean, it says that on tiktok. I mean, thats where everything is, isnt it . Apparently im not there, so i dont know whats going on. Its quite i think ill stick in my ignorance, actually. But but a Recruitment Company is promoting the fact that lazy girl jobs, i presume its lazy , but i dont know why its lazy, but i dont know why were just sticking to girls and why they arent lazy boys. But there recommend saying that people that are be the second people do that are be the second worst performing person and youll do all right. Whats all that about it and theyre saying that about it and theyre saying that the generation z whatever that the generation z whatever thatis that the generation z whatever that is people born after 1997 if youre not sure im never sure of those titles. They dont want jobs that actually involve too much effort. They want kind of an easy well, dont we all . But it doesnt really work like that. Driver this morning that. My cab driver this morning was that we was bemoaning the fact that we are lacking in black cab are very lacking in black cab drivers in london because nobody wants to take the knowledge anymore. Take up to four anymore. It can take up to four years study knowledge to years to study the knowledge to know, know, so know, all know, you know, so you know, all of of london. And he of the streets of london. And he also in the pandemic had already had a trade as a butcher. So he was able to go back to that. And he was going on about how he he cant understand why people dont to get a trade, dont dont want to get a trade, dont want jobs that actually want to do jobs that actually contribute to and contribute to society. And he was really of the fact was really proud of the fact that paid for it, bought that he had paid for it, bought a for his own a house, paid for his own wedding and got a baby on the way. And it was all kind of through work and effort through his hard work and effort that hed done that. Quickly bring you in this that hed done that. Cella. Y bring you in this that hed done that. Cella. This1g you in this that hed done that. Cella. This is you in this that hed done that. Cella. This is the in this that hed done that. Cella. This is the ceiling his one, ella. This is the ceiling of low aspiration. It would seem. It was basically its the working home as gaming. How working from home as gaming. How to little as possible to do as little as possible while us paid much as while getting us paid as much as possible that empower . Is possible is that empower . Is this is just this feminism or is it just basically bone idle people whove used to being in whove got used to being in their with their latte . Their pyjamas with their latte . Split. Im not split on im split. Im not split on this one. On the one hand, you know, in a superficial way, obviously if we could obviously all of us, if we could make a quick buck nothing, make a quick buck doing nothing, wouldnt nice . And you wouldnt that be nice . And you could. I know what id spend my time if it wasnt working time doing if it wasnt working on other it is very on the other hand, it is very short and it should be short sighted and it should be the room. Whether the adults in the room. Whether its, know, parents or an its, you know, parents or an older generation getting young people that actually older generation getting young peterms that actually older generation getting young peterms your that actually older generation getting young peterms your thayoutually older generation getting young peterms your thayou get. Y in terms of your life you get much more if youre much more fulfilment if youre doing if you get good at something and something which something and do something which is doesnt matter is fulfilling, it doesnt matter what is. But if have in what that is. But if you have in particular, actually, i think in particular, actually, i think in particular young having particular with young men having a trade can do a skill, having a trade can do a huge amount for in terms of huge amount for them in terms of not self esteem, but not just self esteem, but feeling you worthwhile feeling that you are worthwhile and and that is and you genuinely and that is a genuine thing can do genuine thing that you can do something other people something that other people cant and so i think you cant do. And so i think you know as the scrolling on know as much as the scrolling on tiktok might make you some and social managers and all, social media managers and all, this is very sort of gen this thing is a very sort of gen z. And by the way, im over 30, so in dark as you as so im as in the dark as you as this. I dont go anywhere near tiktok. Is attractive. Its tiktok. It is attractive. Its a bubble thats going to burst at some and i dont think some point. And i dont think anybody think anybody really, if they think about to wake up 30 about it, wants to wake up 30 and realising that the only thing can do scroll and thing they can do is scroll and not having a purpose is terrible for your mental health. Yeah, its really bad thing. We saw a lot of that during lockdown. Guys, huge lockdown. Look guys, a huge injection of common sense. This morning the paper. Thank you morning on the paper. Thank you very ella whelan. Of very much, ella whelan. And of course, suze holder, thank you very much. Superb. Yeah, fab, really good to see you both. Now, a staggering 86 of people admit to having anxiety about their Summer Holidays. Thats according to a new report. Well, i havent got a passport, so exclude me from that. Holiday. Specialists on the beach claim brits having the beach claim brits are having houday the beach claim brits are having holiday about anything and holiday angst about anything and everything to do with their time abroad. So whats of this about . Were joined now by broadcast reporter lucy beresford. Really reporter lucy beresford. Really good see you this morning, good to see you this morning, lucy. Meant to be lucy. Holidays are meant to be relaxing. So what are we so anxious about . It seems that were well, it seems that were anxious about absolutely everything. As you say, the on the beach holiday retailers came up with this survey and it shows that were worried about the actual planning of the trip booking for something, discovering that its more expensive than wed been told it was. Were worried about the was. Were worried about the weather. Were worried about body confidence. When we actually get to our destination. And its really hard to let go of those anxieties while were on holiday. So not only do we have the angst before we go, we have the angst before we go, we have it while were on holiday and it spoils it. One of the things i get most anxious about now is the cost of holidays, and i wonder if do you think were going lucy towards a time where holidays are going to become so expensive . Well go back to the 1970s and theyll become the kind of premise of rich people. Meanwhile, you know, impoverished brits are forced stay in britain and forced to stay in britain and were fighting over caravans and places by the seaside, which are becoming overly packed. At oh, becoming overly packed. At oh, well, i speak as a good bognor regis girl, so there is nothing wrong with staying in the uk and having a beach holiday there. But travel well can be incredibly exciting and stimulating. My mind expanding so i would also be in the camp of saying that people do need to travel because it gives you new experiences. You try new food, experiences. You try new food, you experience different cultures and customs, but theres a lot to be said for recognising that if youre going out of your comfort zone , which out of your comfort zone, which is fundamentally what what travel is often about, you need to perhaps protect yourself from the fact that it will be a bit stressful that always stepping out of your comfort zone feels like a bit of a risk. And it isnt just about the cost , its isnt just about the cost, its about things that you might about the things that you might be exposed to. Maybe the travel delays or the fact that the weather isnt what you thought it was going to be like. But thats life in general in a way. Dont forget, we take ourselves on holiday. So if were not comfortable in our own skin , comfortable in our own skin, then then actually wherever we go on holiday isnt actually to going be that much fun. And perhaps its also down to the people that we go on holiday with that perhaps im a psychotherapist as well , and i psychotherapist as well, and i there are always a spike in referrals to people that come to see therapists after the Summer Holidays because its so stressful being with your family. So perhaps its about travelling on your own every once in a while, discovering yourself. Yeah, a bit of eat , yourself. Yeah, a bit of eat, pray, love maybe. Lucy really good to see you this morning. Thank you so much your time. Do you so much for your time. Do you find holidays stressful . If you find holidays stressful . If you do, what is it that stresses you out . Is it the cost . Like martin is it a body issues . Is that something that makes you nervous . Is it the family . Are nervous . Is it the family . Are they just a bit stressful . Do you let us know . Vaiews gbnews. Uk the more lucy was speaking there , the more was speaking there, the more that was that was chiming with me. Yeah. You go on holiday with your family, youre locked up for week you can see for a week or so. You can see like a prison sentence sometimes i yeah, maybe. And this is breakfast on gb news. Well lets start this hour with some breaking news, shall we . Because dozens of channel migrants have been rescued after their small boat got into difficulties this morning in the channel at dover lifeboat. And several french vessels were involved in the operation to rescue multiple people in the water about five miles off the french coast at us gb news kent, producer filmed at dover harbour as a number of people were taken off the dover lifeboat on stretchers and were transferred to waiting ambulances. So just to remind you of that breaking news in the last few moments that dozens of channel migrants have been rescued after their small boat got into difficulties this morning. And difficulties this morning. And we did just see that footage there of several people being stretchered off that lifeboat , stretchered off that lifeboat, the dover lifeboats. We will, of course, bring you more as we have it. But joining us now is gb news home and security editor mark good morning to you, mark white. Good morning to you, mark. What do we know . Mark. What do we know . Well, a significant incident that has unfolded in the English Channel this morning, the second rescue really in the last couple of days out in the channel and it appears from the information that we have received that this was as far as the Emergency Services dealing with it declared a Major Incident. They had the dover lifeboat and several french Patrol Vessels involved in this. Now, the location were told, was some five miles from sangatte , which five miles from sangatte, which is not too far from calais. For some reason, those casualties , some reason, those casualties, though, were brought to dover harbour rather than the french side. That may have just been an issue in terms of the preparedness of the Emergency Services to deal with those who were taken off. But our producer down in kent , who was were taken off. But our producer down in kent, who was filming all of this unfolding about 5 am. This morning, said that he saw and indeed , you can see from saw and indeed, you can see from the video that weve obtained at gb news from him that several people were taken off the lifeboat in stretcher as other people were taken off, covered in blankets or walking off, described potentially as as walking wounded. There was at least half a dozen ambulances and coastguard vessels that that have been stationed at dover harbour at the western jet foil , which is where these Border Force Boats and lifeboats come in to with the migrants that are picked up in the channel. As i say, this is different. This is not just what normally happens on a daily basis, which is these small boats come across that are spotted in the water and then border force or a lifeboat attends that scene and transfers the people on board. We understand that there were people multiple people in the water, as happened on thursday. Water, as happened on thursday. Again, when a boat was, it seems, inundated with water and people ended up in the sea. There were multiple people in the sea rescued by those french vessels and by the dover lifeboat. And it looks like there was about 60 or so on board the lifeboat when it came into the western jet foil in doveh into the western jet foil in dover, which is an indication of just how full this boat must have been on. Mark, you and i both know, having seen those craft up close, they are often improvised, flimsy , unseaworthy, improvised, flimsy, unseaworthy, death traps, really waiting to happen. We can only hope there has been no serious casualties or loss of life here. But one technical question for you, mark. If this incident happened five miles off the french coast, why were people brought back to dover to. Well, this is one of the questions well need answered in the hours ahead. Its a bit of the hours ahead. Its a bit of a puzzle. Normally if you are involved in an incident, unless its right on the kind of the Halfway Point between france and the uk, then, you know , its the uk, then, you know, its wherever they can get someone to as quickly as possible that could be on the french or the uk side. But this was, were told from our account producer well inside french waters, about five miles he reckons off sangatte , miles he reckons off sangatte, which is, as i say, too not far from calais, but it might be just do due to the preparedness of the Emergency Services is mustering to determine which was actually going to be the quickest point to get them to if we were able on the uk side to get Emergency Services and ambulances to dover harbour to be waiting for those boats to come across, it might have been deemed that that was just the quickest, more expedient way of doing it, but regards less what we have is an incident in which we have is an incident in which we think around about 5 am. This morning. Somehow this boat was inundated with water. It could have been a wave because as were told, that conditions were pretty horrific out in the channel first thing this morning with winds blowing at about 20 miles an hour from the southwest , which, of course, whips up those those waves. I mean, it might not be too difficult for larger container ships that plough up and down the channel so all of the time. But when youre talking about a flimsy inflatable, they can be inundated fairly quickly. And if inundated fairly quickly. And if its not the weather that whips up the waves and inundates these boats, it can be the passing wake from one of these big container ships that does it. We dont know really the cause of the incident except to say that there was definitely an incident with people in the water and these multiple boats responding to that. They pulled them from the water. Were not told at this stage of any fatalities , this stage of any fatalities, but clearly there are those who were deemed to have been injured that were stretchered off and now taken to hospitals in the canton area with about half a dozen or so ambulance and paramedic vehicles waiting for them in the key side at dover harbour. Harbour. Okay, mark white, our Home Security editor, thank you so much for bringing us up to speed on that break ing news this morning. Thank you very much. On that channel rescue, several migrants have been rescued after getting into difficulty in the channel this morning. As you channel this morning. As you just heard from mark white there he happened about he believes it happened at about 5 am. This morning. He described as a significant described it as a significant incident. Well, Charlie Rowley incident. Well, Charlie Rowley joins us in the studio now. Good to see you, charlie. And your to see you, charlie. And your reaction to what mark white was just saying there. This significant incident in the channel significant incident in the channel, several migrants have been well i think this been rescued. Well i think this just highlights how perilous the journey is. Anybody is going to make anybody that is going to make that crossing or attempt that crossing it is a dangerous route into the uk. Its not something that do lightly and it that people do lightly and it follows the incident that we had just last week in italy where an appearance lost their lives because of the crossings that are taking place, not just across calais and to dover but across calais and to dover but across europe. It is a European Crisis that were seeing. But as crisis that were seeing. But as i say, it highlights the perilous journey that people do take, which is all the more reason why we have to do more to stop it. And i cannot repeat enough. If you go to dover, if you see these craft, i mean, they are lashed together from pvc sheeting that is plastic welded together to before would i mean, they are just basic homemade craft. People are paying craft. People are paying thousands of pounds to get on these boats. We saw when the weather was calm there so heavy laden with people, theyre practically bending half when practically bending in half when the choppy like the weather gets choppy like this, the window of this, when the window of opportunity to set to sea is small , all these opportunity to set to sea is small, all these kind of disasters are going to happen. Theyre going to happen increase often, surely its time to kind often, surely its time to kind of try and end the pull factors. Stopping the boats could save lives. Yeah, youre absolutely right. And the craft that you were just describing is the reason why i think the uk government didnt get much press coverage has done a deal with turkey because the materials and the supply the small boats, supply chain of the small boats, there a journey apparently there is a journey apparently that comes from turkey. Some of the and the boats the materials and the boats before they even to turkeli. Before they even get to turkeli. So stopping the craft, breaking up the criminal gangs going after the people that are preying on those that do depart with thousands of pounds of their cash to come into the country. Sold a false hope, a false dream, and then end up making that crossing. And as i making that crossing. And as i say, the conditions, as mark was just describing brilliantly there, the conditions are even though its the middle of august, are not a great it is a dangerous journey. And weve seen, i think for the first time the reality of how dangerous that crossing really is. Charlie, lets talk about the bibby stockholm barge zahawi in dorset, 39 migrants have been moved off that now after traces of legionella bacteria was found in the water supply on the boat. I mean, this is humiliating, isnt it, for the government . Isnt it, for the government . It is, but its not good. And it is, but its not good. And if youre the home secretary, if youre Robert Jenrick the immigration minister, you might have a few questions for your officials to say, look, you know, i gave the green light on the basis that you would hope all the checks had been undertaken, that all of the testing that needed to take place happened as place had happened before. As a minister or the secretary of state, i gave the green light for bibby to become for bibby stockholm to become operational. That hasnt operational. If that hasnt happened or if there were details that were missed out or a communication breakdown in that chain that has now come to light or truth has come to light, then of course, there are serious questions for those Decision Makers officials Decision Makers and officials that presenting the options that were presenting the options to ministers in home office i yeah, because the blame game will start. Jenrick was will now start. Jenrick was blamed for taking eye off blamed for taking his eye off the of course in the ball. Of course he was in turkey courting the turks about trying to break supply chains, giving them £3 million for the privilege. Junior ranking civil privilege. Junior ranking Civil Servants no doubt will come under the microscope. Theyve been blamed for even taking time off work. The work from home culture may have contributed to this, but at the end of the day, the buck stops with the government in power. Weve reached the 100,000 mark this week of illegal is another minor tragedy. Hopefully not too major happened this morning. We cant keep blaming the echr. We cant keep blaming the echr. We cant keep blaming the echr. We cant keep blaming keir starmer. Ngos lefty lawyers, cabals of cronies. The buck stops with the government. Its been an unmitigated disaster. Peter. Peter. Youre absolutely right. I mean, i smile wryly because its the lawyers and those on the left that have, you know , left that have, you know, blocked so many attempts to try and deal with this crisis, particularly the house of lords. You might argue. And one thing on own is not going to solve on its own is not going to solve the problem. So bibby stockholm on its own is not going to solve theitsoblem. So bibby stockholm on its own is not going to solve theits own n. So bibby stockholm on its own is not going to solve theits own in so bibby stockholm on its own is not going to solve theits own in isolation stockholm on its own is not going to solve theits own in isolation is ockholm on its own is not going to solve theits own in isolation is not|olm on its own in isolation is not to going solve the problem. You need criminal need to target the criminal gangs. Need to disrupt that gangs. You need to disrupt that trade you need trade that takes place. You need increased which the increased patrolling, which the government you government is committed to. You need an increase in border force. Increase in force. You need an increase in the people that are the number of people that are deaung the number of people that are dealing with the backlog the dealing with the backlog and the processing those that are processing of those that are trying into this trying to come into this country. You need a rwanda scheme is given the green scheme that is given the green light courts that again, light by the courts that again, something sort of something that weve got sort of held in the Supreme Court. Held up in the Supreme Court. All of these things combined will factor. Will reduce the pull factor. Well with the people that well deal with the people that come into this country illegally that allows our Processing System to be adequate fair that allows our processing syst up to be adequate fair that allows our processing syst up to scratch quate fair that allows our processing syst up to scratch to rte fair that allows our processing syst up to scratch to those fair that allows our processing syst up to scratch to those that and up to scratch to those that actually a genuine claim actually have a genuine claim can the country where can come into the country where they welcomed, where they will be welcomed, where they will be welcomed, where they integrated, where they will be integrated, where we look after them with we will look after them with people that actually have an asylum those asylum claim to make those that dont are chancing dont and that are chancing their arm and theyre cheating, their arm and theyre cheating, the will be deported the system will be deported and that send very clear that will send a very clear message anybody that to message to anybody that wants to come and come into the country and anybody wants to a anybody that wants to sell a false and false hope to false dream and a false hope to put on those boats that put people on those boats that suffer as what seen today, suffer as what weve seen today, those people will be held to account and ultimately see account and ultimately well see stopping of the boats. That is a very, but, charlie, that is a very, very long and the very long list. And the government just doesnt have the time, they . Time is not on time, do they . Time is not on their we know that their side. And we know that this an election issue that this is an election issue that matters to people. It matters to exactly. It matters to so many you know, many people. Its you know, theres a why the theres a reason why its the fifth priority the prime fifth priority of the Prime Minister does matter minister because it does matter to people. But its on to so many people. But its on the of the conversation. The back of the conversation. I think had previously for think weve had previously for so long this issue hasnt been tackled and hasnt tackled and it hasnt been something the something thats been in the pubuc something thats been in the public much as it is public eye as much as it is today. And it will be even more so today on the back of this breaking story. And think breaking news story. And i think thats government have thats why the government have got to all that and got to do all that it can and demonstrate that its doing all that and thats that it can. And thats bibby stockholm thats rwanda. Thats increased patrols, thats breaking gangs. Breaking up the criminal gangs. Its it can and its doing all that it can and demonstrating all demonstrating that it can do all of it, doing all that. It to of it, doing all that. It can to break up this, this, this terrible, terrible priority. For all that tough charlie, for all that tough talk, boat thats been talk, the only boat thats been stopped is the bibby stockholm. Thats where were at now. When it the next general it comes to the next general election , will the tories be election, will the tories be able away with the same able to get away with the same game they tried 2019 . It will game they tried in 2019 . It will be worse under corbyn. Be much worse under corbyn. Itll much worse under itll be much worse under starmer. Or the brutal starmer. Or is the brutal reality now the new normal of being in britain with a million . A billion people . Beg your pardon . Always on the lookout on pardon . Always on the lookout on the shift. Looking for a better life is this now illegal immigration just a part of the fabnc immigration just a part of the fabric of modern britain . Well , i fabric of modern britain . Well, i think theres no doubt that in the general Election Campaign that the government will want to tell the pubuc government will want to tell the public as to why things have taken long as might have taken as long as it might have done, things have been held done, why things have been held up why the laws up in the courts, why the laws in this country havent been sufficient tough and sufficient or tough enough. And thats labour party thats because the labour party at opportunity voted at every opportunity have voted down immigration that down the immigration bill that have police crime have voted down the Police Crime Sentencing was sentencing bill, which was toughening up our approach to stopping criminal gangs and stopping criminal gangs and stopping coming into this stopping people coming into this country think country illegally. So i think there factual point there will be a factual point that the government and the conservative party will want to point the public as to point out to the public as to why taken long. Why things have taken so long. But will be people that but there will be people that are home today are sitting at home today thinking, well, how on earth why are seeing numbers are we seeing record numbers of people country people coming to this country despite the rhetoric from the government say that theyre government to say that theyre going boats . It is going to stop the boats . It is because a complex issue. Because its a complex issue. Its because for too long the home think, to be home office, i think, to be frank, grappled with frank, havent grappled with this at and seeing this issue at and were seeing that today. Thats that today. And thats why people country will people across this country will be frustrated with the numbers of that are coming into of people that are coming into this because this country illegally because its british its about fairness. The british pubuc its about fairness. The British Public fairness. We public just want fairness. We will look after people will always look after people that genuine claim and that have a genuine claim and are asylum in this are seeking asylum in this country. British country. Its in our british dna. Look after you. But dna. We will look after you. But if youre cheating the system, chancing arm, then im chancing your arm, then im afraid need to be afraid to say we need to be tougher. And thats exactly what the government will to ensure. Okay. Charlie really okay. Charlie rowley, really good morning. Good to see you this morning. Thank so much. Think lots thank you so much. I think lots of agree with charlie of you will agree with Charlie Rowley. Do let us know what you make of that. Gb views at gbnews. But in most cases they either pay but in most cases they either pay or appeal against them. But afghan diplomats here in the uk have regularly left vehicles on double yellow lines or Parking Spaces without the correct permit. But when they get parking tickets , they avoid get parking tickets, they avoid paying get parking tickets, they avoid paying using their international treaties. Com and parking ticket expert. Com. Good morning to you, sir. First of all, the big question is why the taliban, even in britain in the taliban, even in britain in the first place . The first place . I, i have no idea. This is something to do with politics. I only specialise in parking tickets. I think you need tickets. I think you need another expert. Another expert. So tell us about this. This loophole, then. What do you understand about this parking loophole . How are they getting away . Away with this . Well, they have diplomatic immunity and therefore they cant be sued. And this has been going on for years with lots and lots of countries. So its not really news. Its just something which the newspapers pop up occasions only when theres not much else in the news. But the fact of the matter remains and this happens not just with afghans routine, isnt it, for example , during supercar it, for example, during supercar season when the saudis come to britain with their expensive cars, they rev around knightsbridge park, outside harrods, and then just clear off and dont pay any of the tickets. Is there any hope of ever retrieving any of this money or they leg it and get away with it . Away with it . Simple answer is no. They simple answer is no. They cant get any of the money back because they cant. Sue paying because they cant. Sue paying parking tickets is just discretionary as far as the embassies are concerned , and embassies are concerned, and many embassies pay. Many many embassies pay. Many embassies dont. But theres nothing the local authorities can do about it because of the diplomatic immunity. Okay, barry siegel , really okay, barry siegel, really good to see you this morning. Thank you so much for your thoughts on that story, terry. Thank you. Well , that was short and to well, that was short and to the point, wasnt it . There you go. You cant get your money back. Its a part its the part and parcel just doing and parcel of just doing a runner. Only was so easy runner. If only it was so easy for in reverse. I think many for us in reverse. I think many of us brits abroad would be doing the same, i bet you doing the same, but i bet you they eu loophole to they find some eu loophole to finger us. Very difficult to its very difficult to actually appeal a parking fine coming gets coming from somebody who gets them time. It to be them all the time. It used to be eafieh them all the time. It used to be easier, its quite easier, but now its quite difficult. Yeah. Yeah ill just say i just generally say i is my first time in the area. I dont know the road very well. He Charlie Rowley still here. He was laughing at barrys. How would you put somewhat would you put it . Somewhat staccato response clipped answers. Yes, yes. And thought yes, yes, yes. And i thought i sitting thinking to i was sitting here thinking to myself, mayor of myself, maybe the mayor of london focus on london said he cant focus on reclaiming these fines reclaiming some of these fines rather than penalising hard working people with a ulez fine £12. 50 a day. You should go after the people that dont pay their parking. I like the way, including you, ellie, by themselves. Well, i do actually pay them, charlie. The thing i end up paying charlie. The thing i end up paying i appeal paying them. I cant appeal them. Id like to only charlie need speak to the taliban. Need to speak to the taliban. Theyre playhim in a Bayern Munich shirt see him in a Bayern Munich shirt on the pitch this evening, which would astonishing. However, i would be astonishing. However, i did was going to did feel that this was going to go because thursday go through because on thursday i think maybe no. When was it . Think no, maybe no. When was it . Early in the week. He was left out the barcelona game. Out of the barcelona game. A friendly, prestige friendly, friendly, a prestige friendly, which 4 2. He didnt which they lost 4 2. He didnt play. A really play. There wasnt a really a reason given for his injury. His manager, ange postecoglou, had said, overnight that or said, i said overnight that or said, i said overnight that or said in the last 24 hours or so that been preparing said in the last 24 hours or so thatwithouteen preparing said in the last 24 hours or so thatwithout harry3paring said in the last 24 hours or so thatwithout harry kane. ] said in the last 24 hours or so thatwithout harry kane. So life without harry kane. So there was expectation there was a full expectation that he he was to that he was he was going to leave. Cant the economic leave. I cant see the economic value keeping him for another value in keeping him for another season and allowing him to walk out free. You want to out for free. You want to realise some on your realise some value on your players. Hes 30 years old. I think move for think its a brilliant move for him. I really do. Yes. All right. Might. Probably right. He might. Hes probably going on the premier going to miss out on the premier League Record yesterday, league scoring record yesterday, in fact, alan shearer put out a tweet yeah, tweet yesterday. Yeah, because its out in front. Its his record out in front. Thats right. Put out thats right. And he put out a tweet were he was tweet saying were he was dressed like an Airline Pilot dressed up like an Airline Pilot showing the way to showing how he came the way to germany get him out of germany to get him out of england. So he doesnt he doesnt record. But doesnt break the record. But extraordinary move, £94. 6 million. Hes going to be on 600 grand week. Going grand a week. Hes going to a super regularly win the super club who regularly win the Champions League and they win their league every Champions League and they win their hes league every Champions League and they win their hes going3ague every Champions League and they win their hes going to ue every Champions League and they win their hes going to winevery year. Hes going to win trophies. You could argue trophies. Hes you could argue that sacrificing that hes kind of sacrificing personal trophies. Personal glory to win trophies. And i think its a brilliant move. I cant believe were saying cheerio because cheerio to kane, mainly because i he wanted that i thought he wanted that immortality. The immortality. He doesnt need the money. Hes got a few bob already. Right cant already. Right but you cant beat immortality beating beat the immortality of beating shearers scoring record. Shearers goal scoring record. Do a temporary do you think this is a temporary blip itll back . Blip and itll be back . I think hell back one i think hell be back one day. I dont think hell. Day. Yeah. I dont think hell. I mean, theres told me i mean, theres someone told me the that tottenham may the other day that tottenham may even buyback and even have a buyback clause and that stumbling that was what the stumbling block last 48 hours block was in the last 48 hours before the move. However hes more wants win the more important, wants to win the champions bayern Champions League. Bayern munich got win the got a good chance to win the champions trying got a good chance to win the ch rebuilds trying got a good chance to win the ch rebuild their trying got a good chance to win the ch rebuild their side. Trying got a good chance to win the ch rebuild their side. They trying to rebuild their side. They lost last summer. They the last summer. They lost the robert they werent Robert Lewandowski. They werent quite they quite able to replace him. They brought mane from brought in sadio mane from liverpool. Out be brought in sadio mane from liv absolute out be brought in sadio mane from liv absolute disaster. Out be brought in sadio mane from liv absolute disaster. And be brought in sadio mane from liv absolute disaster. And so be an absolute disaster. And so harry kane going there gives harry kane going in there gives them the front them a fulcrum at the front of their believe their attack. And i believe theyll very, very strong in theyll be very, very strong in europe. He the europe. And if he wins the Champions League, will anyone really care that you didnt win the okay. Really care that you didnt win the didnt okay. Really care that you didnt win the didnt it okay. Really care that you didnt win the didnt it with okay. Really care that you didnt win the didnt it with an okay. Really care that you didnt win the didnt it with an englishy. He didnt do it with an english club, this still, club, but this is still, you know, the best players want to play know, the best players want to play at best and play at the best clubs and sometimes play at the best clubs and so this mes play at the best clubs and so this country. Theyre in europe. Okay, so premier league kicked man city kicked off last night. Man city destroyed. Burnley to destroyed. Burnley has to be said. Table of said. Yep. Full table of fixtures today, including my team going to fixtures today, including my teagoing going to fixtures today, including my teagoing be going to fixtures today, including my teagoing be a going to fixtures today, including my teagoing be a bit going to fixtures today, including my teagoing be a bit sticky1g to fixtures today, including my teagoing be a bit sticky foro be going to be a bit sticky for the tricky trees. It is indeed. But well, it is indeed. But declan his his declan rice can make his his league yes. Played in league debut. Yes. He played in the last week. The Community Shield last week. Standout fixtures today i say stand is quiteg mebrighton. Standout fixtures today i say stand is quite interesting n. Standout fixtures today i say stand is quite interesting but which is quite interesting but it really it looks like theyve the really big weekend are not big ones this weekend are not going have not reserved going to have not been reserved for the day. Theyre for the opening day. Theyre probably you look at probably going to if you look at like Sheffield United against palace, brighton, luton, bournemouth, west ham, everton, fulham, theyre not theyre not the big four the sort of the big four sides facing although facing each other. Although liverpool play chelsea over the weekend and theyve got a problem because brighton are selling this moises selling this player Moises Caicedo £111 million. Theyve agreed a deal with liverpool. He agreed a deal with liverpool. He doesnt go liverpool, he doesnt want to go liverpool, he wants right. Wants to go to chelsea. Right. So ordinary money for, so extra ordinary money for, for, for a player who was signed two for £45 million two years ago for £45 million from independiente in argentina. He spends a year on loan at beerschot in belgium and now brighton are selling him for £111 theyre honestly, brighton are selling him for £111 businessheyre honestly, brighton are selling him for £111 businesshejjustionestly, their business is just extraordinary and itd be a great piece of business for brighton. I mean, a club like them that can keep them afloat for years, they working around they have people working around they have people working around the country, around the world looking all the world. They can sign a player from absolutely anywhere and they put them somewhere along them in the team somewhere along them in the team somewhere along the good the line. Martin its good coaching. You just coaching. You cant just take a player small league, player from a small league, put them league them in the premier league and expect you have expect them to get on. You have to get them on the Training Pitch work them into team. Pitch and work them into a team. So of old so there is a bit of Old Fashioned to it as well, fashioned element to it as well, apart analytics. Apart from just the analytics. But if he but what a story. I mean if he goes, theyve in two years goes, theyve made in two years and those hes only and one of those years hes only had season the premier had one season in the premier league. Make £105 million league. They make £105 million profit him. Thats profit on him. Thats extraordinary. Profit on him. Thats extraordi have quick lets have a quick word on the shall we end . Absolutely. 1130, absolutely. Its 1130, england they face england in sydney, they face colombia. England are now the colombia. England are now the favourites of the favourites on account of the fact brazil , the fact that canada, brazil, the usa and germany have all been knocked out and theres pressure on because theyre 21 on england because theyre 21 places above colombia in the world rankings. However, theyve lost james now we thought lost lauren james now we thought with incident with the stamping incident against nigeria the last against nigeria in the last round, the stamp round, we thought with the stamp on is she going to get on the head, is she going to get a ban, meant she a one match ban, which meant she just today, or she to just missed today, or is she to going get three ban, going get a three match ban, which means you miss the tournament. Theyve compromised in fifa in the middle of fifa and theyve that a two theyve decided that its a two match its still match ban, but its still englands top player. Shes a top a top assist top scorer, a top top assist maker. She is the kind of x factor in englands forward line because they havent been scoring in lead scoring many goals in the lead up tournament, havent up to the tournament, havent scored tournament up to the tournament, havent score from tournament up to the tournament, havent score from game ournament up to the tournament, havent score from game againstent china. But that means that she could be the if england be back for the final if england were a semi final. Were to make a semi final. The final sorry. Sorry. No, the final sorry. Youre yeah, youre absolutely right. Yeah, because team. Yeah, thats because this team. Yeah, thats absolutely because this team. Yeah, thats absolltoday and i think theyll game today and i think theyll win predict 1 and my win i predict 2 to 1 and my predictions normally quite good. They are few quid good. Yeah. 211 yeah. 2 think. I think colombia will score but cant be will score but they cant be discounted because forget discounted because dont forget colombia in the colombia put germany out in the in group stage so and at in the group stage so and at this of the competition this stage of the competition you lightly anyway. But think tn yeah but i think thats worth a 1 lionesses. A squeak. 18 to 1 lionesses. Ill a of if i got ill have a bit of that if i got it right. Remind yeah. Didnt remind me. Yeah. If i didnt forget it. Forget about it. About it. Cheers. Forget about it. Cheers. Forget about it. Cheers. All right. Thanks much. All right. Thanks very much. Thank next, is the thank you. Up next, is the papers breakfast on papers youre with . Breakfast on gb news, britains news channel good morning. Welcome back. You good morning. Welcome back. You are watching and listening to breakfast with ellie and martin. And its time to go through the papers now. And joining us this morning journalist and author morning is journalist and author susan and journalist and susan holder and journalist and commentator ella whelan. Good commentator ella whelan. Good morning to you both. And susan, morning to you both. And susan, were talking wine. Its never too early. Yes, but were not whining about wine. Its a good story because all that rain that everyone moaned about for weeks and weeks and weeks actually has done a bit of good because apparently english winemakers are expecting a bumper crop because of all that rain. They do need a bit of sun now into september, i is on september, which i think is on the theyre saying the cards. But theyre saying that actually getting that they are actually getting much bigger because of all much bigger yield because of all that thats and that rain. So thats good. And i didnt realise just how huge an industry this was. And industry this was. And apparently in. 2021, £335 apparently in. 2021, £335 million worth of stock was exported to non eu regions and 132 million to inside the eu. Its a big business. Yeah. So yes, thats great. I like a bit of english wine. I was once asked english sparkling. Sparkling. Yeah. Yeah. I was once asked to leave an engush i was once asked to leave an english vineyard. Yeah, because i went cycling down the camel estuary trail down in cornwall and along the way. So i cycled with my top off. You know, i, like, got down, got down there, ordered a glass of wine, and they said, we dont like people. We dont want people like you in here. And then a coach load of tourists arrived. Were all tourists arrived. They were all like, and like, suited and booted. And i think play. Martin think thats fair play. Martin yeah, they kicked me out for being yobbo. Yeah, they kicked me out for beiii] yobbo. Yeah, they kicked me out for beiii thinkbbo. Yeah, they kicked me out for beiii think thats yeah, that i think thats yeah, that beach. You should keep your shirt on. Yeah, gm yeah, yeah. Good advice. I would agree that. Would agree with that. Cruel. Would agree with that. What are your thoughts on. What are your thoughts on. Just come back from ive just come back from a little mini holiday in devon where all the farmers are really panicked about the other side of it, crops are getting it, that their crops are getting too yes too wet. So its too wet. Yes too wet. So its nice to have a little bit of bit. I dont know whether this would fact into the whole kind of security. I like the of food security. I like the idea securing english wine idea that securing english wine is it would be part of it. I cant live on wine alone, can we . No, but it is a central part i yeah, we can drink to forget, i guess. Its interesting how engush i guess. Its interesting how english winemaking is on the boom though, because of course, one of the things im always fascinated about was that during roman times we could abundantly grow because the climate grow wine because the climate was warmer. Maybe its not about Climate Change, maybe was Climate Change, maybe it was just warmer historically, a little a diversion there. Little bit of a diversion there. But europe is on fire. So you know. Is it . Yeah, well, yes. Know. Is it . Yeah, well, yes. Well, bits of rhodes or it was arson. I know, ella. Was arson. I know, ella. Fascinating story here. This is the war on country side oil the war on the country side oil boiler which has been called the countryside countryside ulez. Yes well, sticking on the issue of warming or not so warm in the case of having to replace your oil boiler. So when Boris Johnson was in charge, there was net zero was all the rage and there was this plan put forward for as part of the net zero package to have a ban on installation of new oil boilers from 2026. So that would mean you would have to, instead of having an oil boiler , be put in having an oil boiler, be put in ground source heat pump, one of these things, something that was more friendly, big, big more eco friendly, a big, big problem for people who not such a problem for people who a big problem for people who live in cities or theyre live in the cities or theyre still expensive live in the cities or theyre stilthe expensive live in the cities or theyre stilthe rest expensive live in the cities or theyre stilthe rest of expensive live in the cities or theyre stilthe rest of it, pensivebig all the rest of it, a very big problem for people live problem for people who live in rural the grid. Rural areas and off the grid. Obviously, was a you know, obviously, this was a you know, at start this a key at the start this was a key thing rishi sunak was going thing that rishi sunak was going on he on about, about net zero said he was the legacy was going to continue the legacy of Climate Friendly and of being Climate Friendly and blah, blah, blah. And after the blah, blah, blah. And after the recent by elections with the kind of round thats happening over ulez, the government seems to have had a change of heart and is now pointing out which is being made a mockery of when some of the papers that this wasnt ever a promise or a pledge. It was just a consultation. And there is that is true. It was a consultation that hasnt been answered yet. The submissions are in and the government decide government now has to decide what about this issue what it does is about this issue of oil boilers. In other papers we have manufacturers coming forward and saying, can you please make a decision because we know what to what to we dont know what to what to produce and what supply will be like. That like. But its interesting that you know, i think its important to viewers that to point out to viewers that this the this isnt because the government necessarily had government has necessarily had a change in terms of the change of heart in terms of the politics environmentalism, politics of environmental ism, but that as the telegraph points out, around 1 in 7 households in the constituencies of cabinet ministers are off the power grid, meaning theyll be affected by this. So theres a lot of a lot of this change of heart, particularly after the recent is about recent by elections, is about winning elections, right . About winning elections, right . About winning a future election rather than actually the important things around the installation of boilers, which is that heat pumps we know arent as effective, are more expensive. Take up more space, take up more time , need your be time, need your home to be insulated , which is very insulated, which is very expensive, not something that most people there however most people out there however eco friendly are, eco friendly they are, can afford. Afford. And surprise surprise , if and surprise surprise, if potential conservative voters are kicking up a stink to tory mps because theyve got to pay a £10,000 tariff to have a new a new heat pump. Theres been a bit of a backlash. It just seems so wrongheaded. Infrastructure is well, the infrastructure is never there for the idea, is it . Its like electric cars. Thats a, know, a fine idea. If a, you know, a fine idea. If youve got enough places to charge them. If you dont have enough places to charge them for the amount cars that you the amount of cars that you need, not going to work. Yeah. Susan, lets have a look at this story in the mail, shall we . And this is about how an apology gift makes things worse. Well, this is what theyre claiming im. Im claiming in the mail. Im. Im not sure about that. I think if what it says is if you try and placate your partner with anything other than anything involving other than just the word sorry, its a bad idea, just say sorry. Dont buy a and the thinking for a gift. And the thinking for them. I think the person whos written doesnt to written it just doesnt want to buy but but the buy anything. But but the thinking it comes with thinking is it. It comes with bad kind of bad vibes. It has a kind of guilt connotation so the person isnt going to accept the gift or like the gift as much, and they will regift or they probably will regift it or just throw away. I just or just throw it away. I dont know. Think if somebody dont know. I think if somebody bothered a gift as bothered to go and get a gift as part their sorry, doesnt part of their sorry, doesnt that that they are sorry that mean that they are sorry rather than its words are easy. But if youve gone to get a gift. But i dont know. What do you think . Ive been the well, ive been on the receiving of few receiving end of this a few times, having bought a kind of placatory. Also i thought bunch of for example , of flowers, for example, misdemeanours as not making misdemeanours such as not making it home that night. Misdemeanours such as not making it home that night. And i think it home that night. And i think misdemeanour, thats not just a misdemeanour, thats not just a misdemeanour. Misdemeanour, thats not just a misdemeanour. Well, thats what misdemeanour. Well, thats what im saying is i think the bigger the gift, the bigger the crime. The gift, the bigger the crime. It shows youve got something to hide. And i just think its hide. And i just think its a dead giveaway. What did you so what did. What did you so what did. Well, ill just add a few too many. Need to. Many. Yeah, we need to. To investigate this, we need to investigate this, i a bit more. But what i think, a bit more. But what was buy . Was what did you buy . Heres another fatal well, so heres another fatal error. Buy an angry woman. Error. Never buy an angry woman. A bunch of flowers from tesco. Well, there you go. Yeah, well, there you go. Yeah, well, there you go. Peel off the label. At least peel off the label. At least its good thing to thwack you its a good thing to thwack you with, though , isnt it . With, though, isnt it . You get quite a good thwack from a gun. Can do better that, martin. Yes, i can. I can. I wont go there again. What do you think, ella . Apology gift. Things apology gift. Make things worse, i agree with i think probably i agree with martin solidifies i think probably i agree with marguilt, solidifies i think probably i agree with marguilt, its solidifies i think probably i agree with marguilt, its also ifies i think probably i agree with marguilt, its also the. The guilt, but its also the case , you as the case that, you know, as the flowers are sort of stood there in and wilting, flowers are sort of stood there in and wilting , it would in the jar and wilting, it would just me of angry just remind me of how angry i was at you. Yeah, it would be if a box of chocolates, you eat and chocolates, you eat them and its and everyones its done. And everyones happy. But chocolate but it depends on the chocolate is to go. Is the way to go. The flowers yeah, probably the flowers become the become a metaphor for the wilting also partners. Become a metaphor for the wilting also partners. You and also the partners. You know, the husbands never put very never the flowers very they never cut the flowers and put them in the jar. Youve got to do of its just got to do all of that. Its just more you. More work for you. Soonest yeah. Least said soonest mended, possibly. Yeah. Least said soonest mended, possibly. Is yeah. Least said soonest mended, possibly. Is truth yeah. Least said soonest m4thatd, possibly. Is truth yeah. Least said soonest m yeah. Least said soonest m well, ella, youre just talking about chocolate there. Lets theme of lets stick on the theme of snacks shall we . Because noisy snacks, shall we . Because noisy snacks, shall we . Because noisy snacks proms apparently snacks at the proms apparently leaving the audience members popping popping mad. This is hilarious. I love this story. So at the proms, the royal albert hall, they have since 2014, sold popcorn. Not 2014, theyve sold popcorn. Not any popcorn. Popcorn in any old popcorn. Its popcorn in beautiful containers. This beautiful glass containers. This is very proper for the proms. Yeah. And and, and sweets and cnsps yeah. And and, and sweets and crisps and all the rest of it. And people have been increasingly bringing them in, it appears. And the other night right at the point at which im going to pronounce this wrong. This is terrible. Francis poulencs of the poulencs dialogues of the carmelites sorry to anyone whos not a philistine like me, but that during the most sort of passionate moment of that performance , when someone is performance, when someone is singing a really beautiful thing, a fist went into a popcorn jar and two american tourists were rustling very loudly. But rather than ignoring loudly. But rather than ignoring it , a man who loudly. But rather than ignoring it, a man who has been described as you have to look this up. Anyone at this is anyone at home, this is brilliant. As brilliant. A man described as resembling paul resembling a posh John Paul Gaultier began kicking the seat in front fat, using foul language and causing a real scene. And it became this big thing. And it sparked off this discussion, which is that should you be allowed to noisily in you be allowed to eat noisily in an opera, its not quite like a cinema where theres a bit more of of populist feel, but of a sort of populist feel, but there needs to be absolute silence someone singing silence when someone singing their aria. I think theyve got i think theyve point. If in fact theyve got a point. If in fact even the cinema, cant bear even at the cinema, i cant bear it. You if i if i go to it. You know, if i if i go to a kids matinee performance with my kids, front kids, i have to sit on the front row because because have to row because because i have to have eating behind row because because i have to havebecause eating behind row because because i have to havebecause people 1g behind row because because i have to havebecause people are ehind row because because i have to havebecause people are like d me. Because people are like delving into the crisps and theyre in, theyre stuffing them in, crunching bear crunching and i cannot bear people who eat smelly hot dogs in a cinema. What is that . Now, i have zero tolerance for any of that. If you to the cinema, the if you go to the cinema, the theatre, never been to the theatre, ive never been to the opera, clearly its now got opera, but clearly its now got there, is at there, which is which is at least shows people are doing least it shows people are doing it just least it shows people are doing it of just least it shows people are doing it of us just least it shows people are doing it of us plebs just least it shows people are doing it of us plebs at just least it shows people are doing it of us plebs at the ust least it shows people are doing it of us plebs at the cinema kind of us plebs at the cinema who who are suffering from who are who are suffering from this zero, no eating this. But i have zero, no eating , no talking, no texting , no , no talking, no texting, no watch, no singing along. Watch out for a posh john paul gauthier. John, the reference is in this. I think i probably have to stand up for the fact that i remember being a teenager and going to the cinema on a date would be where youd you know, be of snacking in back be a bit of snacking in the back row and some whispering and some, know rustling of popcorn. Isnt that hard. I think wed put many teenagers put up not that many teenagers go opera, so maybe thats go to the opera, so maybe thats not of problem. Not so much of a problem. Up that. I mean, not so much of a problem. Bit up that. I mean, not so much of a problem. Bit of up that. I mean, not so much of a problem. Bit of fumbling that. I mean, not so much of a problem. Bit of fumbling kindt. I mean, not so much of a problem. Bit of fumbling kind ofi mean, not so much of a problem. Bit of fumbling kind of in|ean, a bit of fumbling kind of in a back seat. I think id put up with than people talking, with more than people talking, texting and. Yeah, yeah. I dont oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I dont know about that. Think rather someone i think id rather someone was on popcorn was to be nibbling on popcorn and nibbling another. Yeah well, or a of both. Or a bit of both. I mean, yeah, whatever floats your boat. Not susie. Then lets move not susie. Then lets move swiftly on, shall we . Yes, the daily express and shakespeare plays were nearly lost forever. Plays were nearly lost forever. Yes. Now, this could kind of split the audience. I think , split the audience. I think, because i think some people love and respect shakespeare. And a lot of people would not care if they never saw anything to do with shakespeare ever again. But i think people need to understand that shakespeare obviously did. I mean, lots of the phrases we use, lots of the language thats common actually comes from shakespeare. And what this piece in the daily express explains really well, actually, is how during shakespeares life, all his plays were published as as flimsy little kind of pamphlets. Thats all there was, obviously. And it wasnt until seven years after his death in 1623 that two of his death in 1623 that two of his colleagues collected all the works together and put them in a bound copy. There were 750 copies made and this is whats known as the first folio, which is incredibly famous. There are still 235 copies of that first folio in the world that we know of , but theyre worth a few folio in the world that we know of, but theyre worth a few quid on that. Theyre worth millions. One went for 7. 8, 4 million. So one went for 7. 8, 4 million at christies in new york. So youre unlikely to find one on your on your shelves. But they are. But i do think its really interesting that we could have lost all of that work. And even if you dont enjoy going and watching shakespeare and i know a lot of people dont, the themes and the stories from romeo and juliet to midsummer nights dream to macbeth, those those are rewritten in kind of various ways by by writer hours now. And i mean, as ive taught drama for years , we did a rock drama for years, we did a rock and roll version of romeo and juliet and the kids loved it. The story is are so strong that actually it is really quite shocking to think that we might have denied all of that. Have been denied all of that. That would have been incredible. Have been denied all of that. Thai would have been incredible. Have been denied all of that. Thai hadld have been incredible. Have been denied all of that. Thai had n01ave been incredible. Have been denied all of that. Thai had no idea been incredible. Have been denied all of that. Thai had no idea yom incredible. Have been denied all of that. Thai had no idea you were3dible. Have been denied all of that. Thai had no idea you were s0 le. I had no idea you were so cultured i had no idea you were so cultbeautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful. I it well, obviously. I hide it well, obviously. I hide it well, obviously. And weve got okie dokie. And weve got time for one more. Ella in the guardian, authors threatened book festival boycott over sponsors links. Is this more fossil fuel stuff . Well, going from the sort of high culture of the importance of shakespeare and all the rest of shakespeare and all the rest of it to some pretty some well, a pretty sad state of affairs which is that the edinburgh book festival is sponsored by an Investment Company which as part of its investments , is into of its investments, is into fossil fuels and a bunch of authors and attendees of the festival including zadie smith, gary young and others, the novelist Jessie Burton have come together and said that we will boycott the festival next year if you dont encourage this Investment Firm to stop investing in fossil fuels. Its, you know, its a real kind of the sort of paying respects almost to mother earth in this sort of way of obsessing over Climate Change is a real kind of middle class weakness. And particularly at book festival , particularly at book festival, it it shows the sort of it shows it shows the sort of insubstantial ness of it, which is that we know that weve just been having discussions about heat pumps and oil boilers. We know that the question around fossil black fossil fuels is not as black and white and evil as they white and good and evil as they make it to a make it out to be. Its a complicated issue of which you have issues around have to balance issues around the with other the environment with other issues affordability and issues of affordability and making people have making sure that people have energy to heat their homes, run their all the of their cars or all the rest of it, that you know, to reduce it, and that you know, to reduce this a bunch of snooty this down to a bunch of snooty authors saying theyre not to going back a festival, going go back to a festival, i think you tenor think shows you the tenor of this debate. Theyd be grateful you think theyd be grateful for any money they got coming in these have to these days. I know we have to leave whelan and leave it there. Ella whelan and susan holder, that was fantastic. Once again, thank you very fantastic. Once again, thank you vehthank you. Thank you. Thank you. Now renowned around the world for and promoting for discovering and promoting the creative the very best in the creative arts, festival is arts, the Edinburgh Festival is currently in full swing. Lets live now to gb well, lets go live now to gb news, scotland, reporter tony maguire, us live from maguire, who joins us live from edinburgh. Good morning to you, tony. What can we expect this weekend . Weekend . Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Well, a bit of a damp start, unfortunately, to the weekend, but we know that that isnt going to dampen any of the spirits of any of the acts. And any of the festival goers this weekend. This is, of course, the worlds festival. Worlds biggest Arts Festival. And what a week for scotland. And what a week for scotland. Going back to back with the worlds biggest cycling event. Worlds biggest cycling event. And it just happening all over the country in glasgow. So the worlds greatest and smallest and perhaps the most best known as well as the completely undiscovered acts from all the creative sort of circles descend on edinburgh to bring their shows to the world. So, you know, Edinburgh Festivals and especially the world famous Edinburgh Fringe is really this culmination of, of around 5 or 6 festivals over the course of august and edinburgh absolutely balloons in size with the number of people coming in and out from abroad and from elsewhere around the uk to see the very best in comedy theatre dance and cabaret and everything in between. Um, and everything in between. Um, so you mentioned there were the book festival. Thats kind of the, the biggest story really come out of the last couple of days where were seeing that authors are , you know, really authors are, you know, really putting the screws to the book festival in order to kind of cut ties with this sponsor. And lest that they give up on fossil fuels. But the majority of the spirited discussion here is really about comedy and is about people shared experiences. You know , speaking to some of the know, speaking to some of the acts earlier in the week, you know, actually performing at the fringe is a really sort of milestone in everyones career, no matter how far up the ladder that they make it. Of course, that they make it. Of course, the other week i was at the royal edinburgh military tattoo, and i know that some of the viewers will have seen the performances there. That is another huge stalwart of this month of august as people come and see every manner from around the world and what goes into creative creativity and culture from various parts of the globe as well as Edinburgh International festival. In the film festival, putting on various screenings over the course of august as well to bnng course of august as well to bring people together. So no matter what your passion is, theres going to be something here. Now, this weekend im going to be going around speaking of different speaking to lots of different artists, comedians or artists, be they comedians or dancers , and quite a lot of dancers, and quite a lot of brits who have made the journey from around the country, as well as some groups and individuals from further afield as well , to from further afield as well, to really get a taste and to bring a taste to all our viewers back at home and of what the Edinburgh Festivals is all about. Truly, it is a massive celebration culture and of celebration of culture and of creativity and of fun. And you know, of. The 3000 odd different know, of. The 3000 odd different shows this year spread across 50,000 performances selling out probably more than 2 million tickets if we base it on last years figures and its going to be an august to remember. But despite all that , 3300 of those despite all that, 3300 of those 3000 shows are comedy , which 3000 shows are comedy, which shows that more than anything , shows that more than anything, we all still like a good laugh. We all still like a good laugh. Oh, tony, really good to see you this morning. I hope the sun comes out for you this weekend. It looks a grey and it looks a bit grey and miserable there in edinburgh, miserable up there in edinburgh, but its going to be packed but its going to be a packed weekend. Hope weekend. So really hope you enjoy see you. Enjoy it. Good to see you. Your breakfast news. Your breakfast on gb news. Britains news channel. Please stick breaking britains news channel. Im Ellie Costello and im Martin Daubney and this is breakfast on gb news. Martin daubney and this is breakfast on gb news. Well, breakfast on gb news. Well, lets start this hour with this developing story in the channel where french authorities , where french authorities, sources have confirmed that 54 migrants have been rescued after their small boat got into difficulties early this morning i dover lifeboat and several french vessels were involved in the operation to rescue multiple people in the water. About five miles off the french coast. Miles off the french coast. Well, our gb news kent producer filmed these exclusive pictures at dover harbour as a number of people were taken off the dover lifeboat on stretchers and transferred to waiting ambulances. Were joined now by gb news home and security editor mark white. Mark, whats the latest down there . Down there . Well, certainly the authorities that were dealing with this incident at around 5 00 this morning were describing it as a Major Incident, a confirmation now that 54 chan migrants were rescued from a small boat that got into difficulty , as we dont got into difficulty, as we dont know quite how many of them were in the water, but certainly a significant number, it would appeah significant number, it would appear. And there were casualties. Our producer down in kent filming exclusively for us, filmed a number of people being taken off on stretchers , and taken off on stretchers, and there were at least half a dozen ambulances and other paramedic vehicles that were waiting at dover harbour , as well as dover harbour, as well as a number of coastguard and other Agency Vehicles as well. Now, Agency Vehicles as well. Now, this lifeboat was brought in to an area called the western jet foil , which an area called the western jet foil, which is in dover harbour. Thats the key effectively that these small boat daily crossings, when they occur, the migrants get taken to there, they get taken to the border force processing centre. So force processing centre. So thats the area that is geared up to receive these people when they come in. So thats where they come in. So thats where the lifeboat and that border force support vessel, the lifeboat and that border force support vessel , the taku force support vessel, the taku headed to that french patrol vessel, as youd say, the taku headed to with those on board. And as i say, our producer was filming as multiple people came off on stretchers. But others who had blankets around them were taken off, described as walking wounded. Now, those on board have been taken in ambulances as to area hospitals , there is no update as yet from the authorities on their conditions. But this incident follows a number of rescue is in the channel this week because although conditions in the channel have improved a bit, theres still less than ideal. And this morning, especially , we and this morning, especially, we had some fairly high waves in the channel with 20 mile an hour southwest winds blowing through the channel. Yesterday the french authorities reported that they had to rescue 116 migrants of three boats. That got into difficulty in french waters. And then , of course, on thursday, then, of course, on thursday, there was this dramatic rescue off the kent coast in which four lifeboats were involved in picking up 17 people who had ended up in the water. Mark, can you explain to our viewers this morning why an incident that happened four miles off the french coast at and that significantly , of and that significantly, of course, nearer to france on the 21 mile expanse. I understanding was that if things happened past the half way mark it was the responsibility of british vessels. Why did the british vessels. Why did the british vessels go so far into french territory . Territory . Well , its territory . Well, its certainly unusual. I dont know of this happening very often. Youre right. If incidents happen sort of mid channel , then it kind of, mid channel, then it kind of, you know, whoever can get to port the quickest , it will port the quickest, it will dispatch and it might end up in a french port or a uk port. But normally, if they are clearly marked as being in french waters, they would head to french ports as indeed the 116 who were rescued yesterday of three small boats were taken to french ports. We know that the dover lifeboat attended this incident. Now, thats a very fast craft. It might well have been that the decision was taken because they had the most seriously injured casualties on board that vessel, that theyre quicker that dover is a harbour. They know that they had these Emergency Service vehicles staging at dover harbour. They may be just made the decision quick time to get it to dover. That im sure will come out in the fullness of time. But youre right, martin, it is unusual for an incident unfolding clearly within french waters for those casualties to be brought to doveh casualties to be brought to dover. But they have been, as i say, a full Emergency Operation that swung into operation very early in the morning at dover harbour. There used to it the role playing exercise for this. And sadly , all too often these and sadly, all too often these days , they have to deal with days, they have to deal with incidents in the channel that turn very scary. And sometimes tragic in terms of loss of life. So theyre very used to that. And again, it seems from what we could see, certainly from the dover end, to have been a textbook operation in the way that they responded. What happened on the french side, we still await answers to. Mark still await answers to. Mark this is a reminder, isnt it , of just how treacherous that journey can be. Well, it is. And we know that there has been a change in the design in the of these boats by the people smugglers in recent weeks. And these new, bigger boats with more people on board. We told were in a response. It we told were in a response. It seems to the fact that the other vessels and some of them, of course, are still in use as well , were much more flimsy in nature with plywood floors that were that had a tendency in strong waves to rip apart it. So the whole boat now, the floor of the whole boat now, the floor of the vessel is this rubber, which were told is a bit more robust. Whether that is the case, i dont know. But it has meant that the boats have been a bit larger. The that the boats have been a bit larger. The numbers coming across have been larger because youve been getting over the last year around about the late 40s to early 50s in terms of the numbers on these boats. But now because of people smugglers have upped the spec, if you like, on these boats, theyre cramming 60 to 70, even 80 people on these boats. Now, that is a major concern in just in and of itself. But it comes this this whole incident today comes at the end of what has been, without a doubt, a disastrous week for the government. This was supposed to be a week in which they had launched a campaign. They wanted to make this the small boats week. Well, it certainly turned into that , but for all the wrong into that, but for all the wrong reasons , the government wanted reasons, the government wanted to show us what they were doing to show us what they were doing to stop the boats with the bibby Stockholm Initiative , with also Stockholm Initiative, with also the deal that theyd hatched with turkey as well, to go after the people smugglers. But what the people smugglers. But what do you get dramatic rescue operations in the channel on thursday, an unmanned aerial drone from border force crashed it into the sea. A Border Force Vessel broke down. And then just yesterday , they all of the yesterday, they all of the issues around the bibby stockholm after this legionella outbreak that was discovered in the water system there and the 39 people whod gone on the bibby stockholm with all the controversy and the anger expressed by those human Rights Groups and the lawyers representing the migrants, well, those migrants have been taken back off again until this legionella bacteria has been deau legionella bacteria has been dealt with. So it could be several weeks before theyre back on again. A security editor. Thank you so much for bringing us up to speed on that breaking news in the channel and that developing story. 54 migrants have been rescued from the channel after a Major Incident this morning. Thank you to mark for bringing us up to speed on that. Were joined now by Charlie Rowley in the studio. Charlie, what do you make of those scenes in the channel early this morning . Well, the first thing to say is that it highlights just how perilous treacherous that perilous and treacherous that journey people are journey is for people that are making it from calais to dover in craft that is clearly not adequate, not fit for purpose. Adequate, not fit for purpose. Its dangerous and at the hands of criminal gangs that ms sell the life of the dream of a life in the uk. Those are the people in the uk. Those are the people who are absolutely responsible and we should do all that we can to target those, to disrupt those criminal gangs, to stop people getting those boats people getting onto those boats in the first place, and to stopping coming into this country. Yeah. Em e of course, the and while of course, the safety involved in safety of anybody involved in this paramount, charlie, we this is paramount, charlie, we must that in march, must remember that in march, rishi sunak gave. £500 million rishi sunak gave. £500 million to the french to precisely stop this kind of thing. To the french to precisely stop this kind of thing. Departures this kind of thing. Departures from the shores in small boats. From the shores in small boats. Im particularly intrigued about about why the british coast guard went so deep into french waters and then brought the casualties back to dover maritime law we were always led to believe were if it happens past the halfway mark, then it became a british responsibility. I think therell be Big Questions about that. But also the bigger question is if were spending half £1 million, half £1 billion preventing this and its not working, are we just throwing good money after bad . I think the first well, i think the first question absolutely i question is absolutely right. I think know why think people want to know why something that happened just a few france has led to few miles off france has led to the uk and our border force and our vessels sort of bringing people into the uk. And it may be as mark was saying earlier on, that weve just got better equipment, got better equipment, weve got the better vessels billion buy vessels, half £1 billion can buy some equipment and surely some good equipment and surely thats money for. Thats what this money is for. Well can, but you well im sure it can, but you would hope also that with all the numbers people were the numbers of people that were heanng the numbers of people that were hearing this hearing about coming into this country, the country, i think what the government do government now needs to do to try recoup, the try and recoup, claim the narrative get onto narrative and to get back onto the to tell the the front foot is to tell the pubuc the front foot is to tell the public many of these vessels public how many of these vessels have stopped. Yes. Okay. Have been stopped. Yes. Okay. The of people coming the numbers of people coming into illegally into this country illegally through these means does seem to be going up. But im sure that theres an lot work theres an awful lot of work thats taken place between the uk the authorities to uk and the french authorities to make weve prevented make sure that weve prevented however many thousands of however many more thousands of people making that journey or how disrupted , how how many weve disrupted, how many i think many have been stopped. I think thats government thats what the government now needs of in needs to sort of tell us in order to reclaim narrative order to reclaim the narrative of clearly a very of what has been clearly a very difficult week. Lets your charlie, lets get your response bibby stockholm response to the bibby stockholm barge dorset, the 39 migrants barge in dorset, the 39 migrants on that barge have been on board that barge have been moved it after traces of moved off. It after traces of legionella bacteria were found in the water supply on that barge. As mark was just referring to, it is small boats week. The government was hoping to make a series of announcements this week that would like announcements this week that would on like announcements this week that would on of like announcements this week that would on of that, like announcements this week that would on of that, that theyre on top of that, that pledge boats. Its pledge to stop the boats. Its very the very embarrassing the government, isnt it . Well , i government, isnt it . Well, i think with the bibby stockholm situation, there will always be contingency plans in place. So should there be an outbreak of a disease within the barge . This is barge . Obviously, this is something thats been detected even it had reached even before it had reached capacity. The home office capacity. So the home office have done absolutely the right thing to disembark. Everybody from the barge and to make sure that they are undertaking that they are now undertaking all to make sure all that they need to make sure that is clean, that is that it is clean, that it is safe, appropriate safe, that its appropriate to put people back on. So the home of home office have done the right to take people right thing to take people off. But right. But youre absolutely right. Questions as to questions will be asked as to why these tests werent done pnor why these tests werent done prior to anybody getting on board and what was the information or the communication chain between that had chain between people that had done those balances , done those checks and balances, what information the home office knew before presenting the decision to ministers to actually give the green light in the first place. May be the first place. So it may be the first place. So it may be the that if youre the the case that if youre the minister your robert minister for your Robert Jenrick , the secretary, if youre the home secretary, you might have been given all the before gave the assurances before you gave the assurances before you gave the come the green light. Now its come to that all of those to light that all of those checks balances might not checks and balances might not have or the tests were have been done or the tests were taken, the results hadnt taken, but the results hadnt been produced until, you know, yesterday or whatever it was. And so, you know, its a problem. But the government have done the right thing to get people off and they need to sort out the barge before people can get back the barge before people can get bacwell, charlie, the 100,000 well, charlie, the 100,000 mark coming into the mark of illegals coming into the country was breached this week, £3 million thrown to turkey. £3 million thrown to turkey. Doesnt seem to have done much. Now the bibby stockholm is much. Now the bibby stockholm is the only boat that theyve managed to stop. Now, this major managed to stop. Now, this Major Incident in the channel, mark, why put it there . Its been a disastrous week for the conservatives, would you agree . Well, its certainly highlighted small boats week were talking about. Yes, its i think there are well, i think it highlights the problem that the government have got and what it what it continues to reinforce what it continues to reinforce what its doing to stop the small boats. So you have to have not just one thing in isolation, bibby stockholm on its own is not going to stop the small boats coming over. You need to have the disruption the have the disruption of the criminal need to have criminal gangs. You need to have the partnership with the the working partnership with the french increase french authorities to increase the to the border patrols, to stop people coming into shores people coming into the shores even depart calais. Even before they depart calais. You need to sure youve got you need to make sure youve got enough people processing the backlog that are backlog of claims that there are in country sure in this country to make sure that those that are seeking asylum genuine need asylum and have a genuine need to country are to be in this country are granted and those that are granted that. And those that are not to rwanda. Not are deported to rwanda. Another have in another issue that we have in the courts. So all of is the courts. So all of that is a package and yes, its package together. And yes, its costly , but there is huge cost costly, but there is a huge cost at moment of £6 million a at the moment of £6 million a day house people in hotels. Day to house people in hotels. Theres a cost to theres a huge cost to communities and cohesion. Communities and social cohesion. And were and now tensions that were seeing in seeing, whether its in knowsley, whether its in portland or whether its in Llanelli Wales , were seeing llanelli and wales, were seeing that tension. But all that community tension. But all of that package put together that ive just outlined needs to happenin that ive just outlined needs to happen in order to reduce the pull factor, to reduce the number coming to this number of people coming to this country. Run. And i country. In the long run. And i think, you know, once you get on top of that, we will start to see an improvement. Well, rowley , i well, Charlie Rowley, i admire your optimism. Joining us today thanks for joining us today on thanks on gb news. Thanks im always optimistic. Im always optimistic. Always. Yes. Im always. Yes. Im always. Yes. Seeing you , charlie. Love seeing you, charlie. Thank you. Now, recently , weve thank you. Now, recently, weve been inundated with stories about the challenging housing and rental market across the nation. As millions struggling to either afford a house or somewhere decent to rent. Somewhere decent to rent. And thats why more and more people have chosen become people have chosen to become guardians of the house. It could be much cheaper , but with be much cheaper, but with strings well, joining strings attached. Well, joining us managing director at us now is managing director at living guardians, arthur duke. Living guardians, arthur duke. Good morning to you, arthur. What is a property guardian . What is a property guardian . A property guardian . Good morning. Property guardian is a young, professional key worker that we will place into an empty property to protect it from squatting. Squatting. Normally, this was something people did for a bit of a break or to kind of see how other people live. But increasingly this is becoming something that people are doing through financial necessity. Is that correct . Yes i think thats right. I mean, weve seen a 60 increase year on year of applications for people to become property guardians. Applications for people to become property guardians. And become property guardians. And when we started the business 14 odd years ago , we were looking odd years ago, we were looking at an average age of between 25 and 35 for the property guardians. However, this has risen recently anywhere between 25 and 55, although we do have one guardian who is our oldest guardian, who is 71 years old. Well, one of the downfalls must be arthur, that the owner of the house could come back at any time. Any time. No, no. We will enter into a contract with the property owner. So we will know, you know, the minimum period that we are likely to be required. Our minimum is three months in london and six months out of london. Wow so thats actually a huge savings. Six months in a london property. Thats a massive amount of to money save. So this is quite a lucrative thing to pursue. You go about pursue. How do you go about getting . Getting involved . Well, thats the hard bit is to try and find the properties in terms of guardians , you know, in terms of guardians, you know, we have a waiting list, a database of about 28,000 people currently who are applying to become guardians. So obviously, the demand is massively outstripping the supply. Outstripping the supply. Be some amazing thing properties on your books. Sorry , say that again. Sorry, say that again. Sorry, say that again. There must be some Amazing Properties that you deal with. Properties that you deal with. Yeah, weve got all sorts of properties from old schools , properties from old schools, churches, pubs , hlbs, stately churches, pubs, hlbs, stately homes we have as well. So a nice array of properties for the guardians to live in and generally they get lots and lots of space to live in. And is the idea that they also help to look after the property. So if theres any maintenance that doing or maintenance that needs doing or maybe watering the plants and that thing, would you that sort of thing, would you be expected that . Expected to do that . Well, we have our own in house maintenance team, so any maintenance issues we fix very quickly. But yes, they will very quickly. But yes, they will be asked to water the plants or or cut the lawns and do their bit. Now , my favourite house now, my favourite house guardian moment is man versus bee. You know , the mr bean video bee. You know, the mr bean video where he stays and he completely destroys a classic car, destroys the home. Do you ever get into a situation where people staying in a property caused damage and end up being out of pocket, not really, because its their home and thats where they live, albeit temporarily. So its not really their so its not really in their interest to , you know, smash interest to, you know, smash the place destroy it. And place up or destroy it. And generally properties generally we have properties back in a better condition than we them in. We received them in. Okay. Arthur great, superb. Okay. Arthur duke managing live duke, managing director, live in guardians , thanks for joining guardians, thanks for joining us today breakfast. Today on gb news breakfast. Thank very much. Weve thank you very much. Weve got going on potholes got you all going on potholes this morning. Theresa asks, is there stronger road surface we there a stronger road surface we should be looking for that nationwide. Karen says potholes are deliberately not repaired. Are deliberately not repaired. The drivers will slow down or not drive at all. And we did a story about apology gifts in the newspaper review. If you want to say sorry to your partner, is it a good idea . Andy and daughter. I like this. Never say sorry. Its this. Never say sorry. Its a sign of weakness. Tough love sign of weakness. Tough love there from andy. No, thats not the way forward. Mel says just humbly apologise and admit when youve been a silly one and big hug been a silly one and a big hug to problem solved. To finish. Problem solved. There you go, smile emoji. There you go, mel. Youve got it. But andy in dorset, line, never, ever dorset, hard line, never, ever apologise. Apologise. Just a few on yeah, and just a few on houday yeah, and just a few on holiday. Were talking holiday stress. Were talking about holidays actually about Summer Holidays actually causing a lot of us. Causing anxiety for a lot of us. Janet says she gets stressed when they go on holiday because she leaving cat she hates leaving her cat behind. Amy in fife, though, says, what is wrong with people . They joy out of they strip the joy out of everything. Holidays with your family is away from work before the kids go back to school. Its the kids go back to school. Its the best ever. The best thing ever. Yeah, and finally, on the topic of channel migrants and the we reporting the Major Incident we reporting on news from mark on breaking news there from mark white, says, why are they white, guy says, why are they being dover when they being brought to dover when they were off the coast of were just off the coast of france . This is beyond a joke. The definitely a taxi the rnli of definitely a taxi service. Strong words there from guy. Guy. Well keep those views coming in gbviews gbnews. Com. Were going to be talking about that shortly with our Showbiz Reporter, stephanie takyi. But first, lets get a sports round up with aidan mcgee and aidan. Big news, harry kane. Hes off. Its official. Absolutely. Ellie. Yes. Absolutely. Ellie. Yes. Bayern munich have tweeted and they published on instagram this morning that he is indeed a Bayern Munich player. An extraordinary video as well that theyve released. Its a little bit racially stereotypical in some ways if you want to flip it on its head, i suppose its on its head, but i suppose its a good sign a german sense of a good sign of a german sense of humour. Lets look at humour. But lets take a look at the now because they put the video now because they put this on their their social this on their on their social platforms the last 40 minutes platforms in the last 40 minutes or think youll agree or so. Trying for a long, long time. Hes gone to that wins hes gone to a club that wins trophies every theyve trophies every season. Theyve won in a row. Won 11 bundesligas in a row. They now have real big they will now have a real big chance, i would think, next yeah chance, i would think, next year, the champions year, claiming the Champions League. Super league. And they are a super club terms, they are club in european terms, they are a legacy club. Anybody thinking hes wrong decision hes made the wrong decision going think they need going there . I think they need to have an understanding to have more of an understanding of yeah. Of world football. Yeah. Fact that video was and the fact that video was clearly scripted and pre made shows at least and the shows that kane at least and the club known for some days shows that kane at least and the clubwas known for some days shows that kane at least and the clubwas goingvn for some days shows that kane at least and the clubwas going ahead;ome days shows that kane at least and the clubwas going ahead whileiays shows that kane at least and the clubwas going ahead while weve this was going ahead while weve been dark. Been kept in the dark. We wrote, we wrote off Bayern Munich, you know, fairly quickly, their quickly, ten days ago, their officials england and officials arrived in england and live to do the deal. Live in london to do the deal. They did not go home until they got harry kane, thats got harry kane, and thats exactly happened. Flew exactly what happened. He flew there for his medical there yesterday for his medical theres chance if they theres a chance that if they get him registered 2 00, get him registered by 2 00, which is eminently which i think is eminently possible, that he play possible, that he may play tonight german cup tonight in the german super cup against leipzig. Thats their against rb leipzig. Thats their equivalent of the of the community so we could Community Shield. So we could even in a Bayern Munich even see him in a Bayern Munich shirt on the this evening. Shirt on the pitch this evening. But as say, 280 goals 435 but as i say, 280 goals in 435 games. Done his bit games. Hes done his bit for tottenham. This you tottenham. And this is a, you know yes, hes getting outside of england and thats where tottenham wanted. They dont want coming back with want him coming back with another club causing another english club and causing embarrassment and it embarrassment to them. And it sees realised some embarrassment to them. And it sees for realised some embarrassment to them. And it sees for a realised some embarrassment to them. And it sees for a player alised some embarrassment to them. And it sees for a player who d some embarrassment to them. And it sees for a player who cameie value for a player who came through tottenham. Through the ranks at tottenham. He produced extraordinary he has produced extraordinary numbers over numbers for them over a consistent of time. Hes consistent period of time. Hes become england captain become the england captain and 58 international level, 58 goals at international level, and they wanted to and i dont think they wanted to see the club next see him walk out the Club Next Summer for free. No. And theres also is am i right saying theres right in saying theres a picture being released him in picture being released of him in a shirt . Thats. A Bayern Munich shirt . Thats. Yeah, weve seen it. A Bayern Munich shirt . Thats. Yeawe weve seen it. A Bayern Munich shirt . Thats. Yeawe showed ve seen it. A Bayern Munich shirt . Thats. Yeawe showed it seen it. A Bayern Munich shirt . Thats. Yeawe showed it aeen it. A Bayern Munich shirt . Thats. Yeawe showed it a few it. A Bayern Munich shirt . Thats. Yeawe showed it a few minutes ago. Thats going to hurt a lot of spurs fans i think, because i think they were still wishing and willing this away. Yeah, they were. But ange postecoglou, their newly manager, was newly appointed manager, he was appointed about a month ago having celtic. He having arrived from celtic. He has ive been preparing has said, ive been preparing for without harry kane. He for life without harry kane. He didnt barcelona didnt play in the barcelona friendly ago, which friendly a few days ago, which when it was, wasnt really a reason for his absence. Reason given for his absence. And was little bit and so that was a little bit peculiar. Kind of knew peculiar. So we kind of knew that the that was when that that was the that was when the situation tipped over the edge. Of knew was to edge. We kind of knew he was to going then. After that it going go then. And after that it was getting terms was about getting the terms right, getting the personal terms year, a terms right. £600,000 a year, a week. To be earning. Week. Hes going to be earning. So, i mean, who wouldnt go for that to for a club that money to play for a club like that . W e to the premier lets get back to the premier league. Off last night, league. Kicked off last night, man muller burnley man city muller burnley three nil. Did. Yeah, indeed. It man city muller burnley three nil. A did. Yeah, indeed. It man city muller burnley three nil. A fairlyi. Yeah, indeed. It man city muller burnley three nil. A fairly comfortableed. It man city muller burnley three nil. A fairly comfortable three was a fairly comfortable three minutes. It took Erling Haaland to the scoring to get back on the scoring trail. Had the longest run trail. He had the longest run without is by without a goal, and this is by his standards had in club his standards it had in Club Football years. They football in five years. But they win of win 3 0 last night. A bit of a blow, though. They lose Kevin De Bruyne first bruyne in the first half. A recurring hamstring injury. Thats because recurring hamstring injury. That 32 because recurring hamstring injury. That 32 years because recurring hamstring injury. That 32 years the 3cause recurring hamstring injury. That 32 years the injury hes 32 years old. If the injury keeps dont keeps coming back and dont forget forced off in the forget he was forced off in the champions final against Champions League final against inter back in inter milan back in back in early thats early june. And i think thats a bit because bit of a worry because Pep Guardiola that bit of a worry because pep gue happened that bit of a worry because pep guehappened again that bit of a worry because pep guehappened again when its happened again and when an injury keeps flaring up and injury just keeps flaring up and keeps its a keeps throwing up and its a hamstring you hamstring injury, you dont recover from hamstring injuries in anymore. In a matter of days anymore. It takes it takes weeks and weeks to get it wrong grade of wrong depending on the grade of the thats a blow for the tear. So thats a blow for them. At them. However if you look at burnleys from burnleys point of view from burnleys point of view, extremely tough opening assignment. Forest, you nottingham forest, you go to arsenal their season arsenal today, their season isnt defined isnt going to be defined on results top sides. Isnt going to be defined on res|yeah, top sides. Isnt going to be defined on res|yeah, arsenal top sides. Isnt going to be defined on res|yeah, arsenal ofop sides. Isnt going to be defined on res|yeah, arsenal of course,;. Isnt going to be defined on res|yeah, arsenal of course, beat isnt going to be defined on res|ycity. Arsenal of course, beat isnt going to be defined on res|ycity. You nal of course, beat isnt going to be defined on res|ycity. You could course, beat man city. You could call it a bit a minute dramatic, bit of a last minute dramatic, but theyre two but nevertheless theyre the two teams oh, teams to watch, dont they. Oh, without doubt. Yeah. I think arsenal yeah. I mean i think arsenal today rice today lining up with declan rice in of a blow in their line up a bit of a blow that gabriel that they dont have Gabriel Jesus expecting that they dont have gabriel jesbeat expecting that they dont have gabriel jesbeat nottingham expecting that they dont have gabriel jesbeat nottingham expecttoday that they dont have gabriel j you have to get that in there. Cup have womens you have to get that in there. Cup aidenve womens you have to get that in there. Cup aiden youre omens you have to get that in there. Cup aiden youre playing world cup aiden youre playing today we. Today arent we. Against colombia 1130 against colombia pressure 1130 against colombia pressure on england early no question about that 21 question about that are 21 places colombia in the places above colombia in the world rankings. And with the absence usa, absence of canada, the usa, germany and brazil, england are now the favourites. I would have now the favourites. I would have had them as favourites anyway, now the favourites. I would have ha be 1em as favourites anyway, now the favourites. I would have ha be 1em as witthites anyway, now the favourites. I would have ha be 1em as with jrites because to be honest with you, because they as they went to australia as the european champions theres they went to australia as the eu|inferiority mpions theres they went to australia as the eu|inferiority complex theres no inferiority complex there. What so ever. Theres a real what so ever. And theres a real chance now, even without lauren james, going to be out for james, whos going to be out for two would include two matches, which would include today and the semi final if they get back get there, but could be back for the were to the final if england were to advance if they advance that far. But if they win today , i think i think win today, i think i think england think theyve win today, i think i think eng a nd think theyve win today, i think i think eng a nd chance k theyve win today, i think i think eng a nd chance anyway,3 got a strong chance anyway, to be theyre be honest with you. Theyre going without going to have to do it without lauren cant write lauren james. But we cant write off colombia. They knocked out germany in the group stages. And so , i think so but having said that, i think all england now. All eyes on england now. And youre calling it youre cheeky little tip to one england. Yes. Yeah. But only remind me if i get right. Thats if i get it right. Okay. Thats the gonna get quid im gonna get a few quid on the holes that, the eight holes of that, mate and the boxing. Should talk aj . Should we talk about aj . Should we talk about aj . Yeah. So he had upheaval yeah. So he had the upheaval last at the start of the week when whyte returned an when Dillian Whyte returned an adverse analytical finding, which in laymans means he which in laymans terms means he failed a drugs test, a voluntary drugs so that rematch from drugs test. So that rematch from 2015 isnt going to happen. They quickly had to get a contender in the nordic nightmare. Martin helenius from hes from iceland. Good nickname. Yeah, it is. I good nickname. Yeah, it is. I mean, im not sure how good he is. 36 fights, 32 wins, but thats not, you know, whos he fought . Not very. Lost fought . Not very. He lost to dillian i dont Dillian Whyte recently. I dont think many think hes caused to many leading contenders, many nightmares, with nightmares, to be honest with you. Keeps show you. But it keeps the show on, though. Thing. Though. Thats the thing. They and the last time they brought so called outsider brought in a so called outsider against joshua, floored him. Against joshua, he floored him. , without doubt. Oh, without doubt. I mean, thats i mean, thats a good point. I mean, 2019 andy ruiz jr was brought in and floored him four and i mean he floored him four times. He did come. Extraordinary win. Extraordinary win. He did win. And so, i mean, he did fight rematch. Ruiz didnt fight a rematch. And ruiz didnt win that but it went in win that one, but it went in points. That fight points. Joshua that that fight changed the trajectory of Anthony Joshuas career. He became he became a different fighter. He became a different fighter. He became he didnt became more withdrawn. He didnt come swinging come out swinging, swinging as often. And often. He didnt attack. And thats career. Thats derailed his career. I think damage thats derailed his career. I thinithat damage thats derailed his career. I thinithat fight damage thats derailed his career. I thinithat fight has damage thats derailed his career. I thinithat fight has reallyge that that ruiz fight has really damaged him. I think hes damaged him. And i think hes got statement got to produce a statement performance tonight, something decent, will get get the decent, which will get get the mouth for a potential mouth watering for a potential fight against Deontay Wilder. But Deontay Wilder , who got a but Deontay Wilder, who got a bit of rebuilding to himself bit of rebuilding to do himself because was schooled three because he was schooled three times tyson fury , two times, times by tyson fury, two times, certainly out of three. Certainly out of out of three. And boxing needs something now because the big fights havent been happening recently. Been happening recently. Is there any chance of an upset the nordic nightmare . Upset from the nordic nightmare . Think i dont see no, i dont think i dont see it. 39 years old. You know it. Its 39 years old. You know , hearn talk him up , eddie hearn will talk him up and hes and say, you know, hes a credible, credible opponent. Hes if anthony credible, credible opponent. Hes loses if anthony credible, credible opponent. Hes loses tonight, if anthony credible, credible opponent. Hes loses tonight, if a|is|ony joshua loses tonight, this is the career. But he the end of his career. But he wont. Happen. Wont. That wont happen. I just say, though, you can i just say, though, you actually wrong actually did have this one wrong because i think. Because you said it. I think. Anything wrong . Anything wrong . Be anthony you said it would be Anthony Joshua. Know. You said it would be anthony josiwho know. You said it would be anthony josiwho you. Know. You said it would be anthony josiwho you. Derrick now. You said it would be anthony josiwho you. Derrick chisora. Who did you. Derrick chisora. Who did you. Derrick chisora. Thought would be. I thought it would be. I thought be, but what thought it would be, but what happened there . Well what happened there . Well what happened there . Well done. You got in there. You got in there. Have. No, shes you have. You have. No, shes always fought very recently. Right. Its probably right. And so its probably a little bit unfair to throw him in the ring straight away. And hes of a flat track hes a bit of a flat track bully. Hes i mean, i thought it would joshua was bully. Hes i mean, i thought it wou of joshua was bully. Hes i mean, i thought it wou of only joshua was bully. Hes i mean, i thought it wou of only opponentshua was bully. Hes i mean, i thought it wou of only opponents ina was one of the only opponents in that that chisora that in his era that chisora hasnt i thought hasnt fought. And i thought hes local would get the hes local and he would get the gig and reason he gig. And for some reason he hasnt. Think its because gig. And for some reason he harfought think its because gig. And for some reason he harfought threcentlercause gig. And for some reason he harfought th recently andrse he fought fairly recently and wasnt the position it. Wasnt in the position to do it. Maybe didnt maybe Anthony Joshua didnt fancy but im not sure well fancy it, but im not sure well see fight not that see that fight now. Not that anyone to see anyone particularly wants to see it rate chisora it because i dont rate chisora as hes quite as a fighter. Hes quite fun when comes ring, but when he comes to the ring, but hes bully. He hes hes a flat track bully. He only are only beats those who are significantly him. Significantly lower than him. Okay, got that wrong. Okay, sorry i got that wrong. No worries. But well remind you youre only human. Aidan magee. Oh, good. Its a rarity. But thanks for joining us. Someone told me. Oh, favourite sandwich thing. Do one . Oh, do you have an odd one . Oh, nearly shop once. Actually, i did. Yeah. I like brisket beef with mustard, brisket of beef with mustard, coleslaw of chutney. Coleslaw and a dash of chutney. Mango yeah, thats mango chutney . Yeah, thats quite orthodox. I mean, got a bit of a i mean, its got a bit of a twist, but its orthodox brisket. P p brisket, beef. It takes 12 hours to cook. All about talked about its all about talked about sy coson is. Oh, im not sure im into so weird thing. Sy coson is. Oh, im not sure in baked so weird thing. Sy coson is. And youre good morning to you. And youre going to talk to us about the oscars because, yes, sky has pulled out broadcasting. Yeah. So sky have had the rights to broadcast the oscars in the uk over the last 20 years. So its just a done deal for them every year they would screen broadcast the oscars, but now its due to the economic climate. A lot of broadcasters are thinking where can they make cuts . Where can they save money . But also its about the oscars have lost their kind of glamour with a lot of viewers at its peakin with a lot of viewers at its peak in 1998, it had about 57 Million Viewers tune in to watch titanic scoop all those awards they did in that year. And then last year, it dwindled to down 22 million. Now 35 million. And that was the year before it had about 60. I think it had 60 Million Viewers. So its been going down steadily year by year. So, you know, for broadcasters , i think why are we going to invest in this . And i think a lot of awards have received criticism because its like either theyve gone too woke , either theyve gone too woke, either theyve gone too woke, either youve got the introduction danger neutral introduction of danger neutral categories. So its just made oscars and other award shows become like a political bait, which is not supposed to be. Yeah, i think the worlds smallest violins for the oscars to be honest, because, you know, four multi millionaires four hours of multi millionaires selling , telling the whole world selling, telling the whole world theyre , transphobic or theyre racist, transphobic or arent doing enough about Climate Change when they kind of clear private jets clear off on their private jets back their little back to their their little islands. They completely islands. I think they completely deserve this. Reckon . It takes dont you reckon . It takes away from what show is away from what show business is supposed to be about . Show business supposed be about business is supposed to be about awarding for either awarding the talent for either their performances , either in their performances, either in movies or even the production teams behind all these big blockbusters. Blockbusters that we watch. But whats happened now is that it has become a tick box exercise. As you know, when box exercise. As you know, when i think about oscars, its i think about the oscars, its been around for almost 80 years. At you to at the beginning, you used to have Hollywood Star who have the true Hollywood Star who would be, know, actually would be, you know, actually being awarded for, you know, the hard done. But now, hard work theyve done. But now, as 2022, in the oscars as we saw in 2022, in the oscars with the will smith slap gate, i cant believe its been a year. Its its taken over its yes. And its taken over the headlines from what the awards to be about. Awards are supposed to be about. So i do worry whether we will in the future be having any ceremonies which will still have the respect and the prestige that they deserve. You think it will go that they deserve. Circle . Ou think it will go that they deserve. Circle . And1ink it will go that they deserve. Circle . And oncet will go that they deserve. Circle . And once well go that they deserve. Circle . And once we come full circle . And once we come out of this movement, wherever were in now, and it will come back to awards that back to the awards ceremony that we i dont think we know and love, i dont think so, really. Think i think audiences are too awake too awake now. I think were too opinionated as a society that were very much more aware of what were being fed, especially when it comes to award shows. And i think viewers are just losing interest now. And i think that that yeah. And i think that that epic gervais speech that epic Ricky Gervais speech that was golden globes, wasnt it was the golden globes, wasnt it 7 was the golden globes, wasnt it . Nevertheless, was the golden globes, wasnt it . Completelyevertheless, was the golden globes, wasnt it . Completely harpooned the when he completely harpooned the pomposity of hollywood, ive never seen celebrities look so uncomfortable. Yeah and that was the best thing about it. The fact he was totally lambasting, you of hypocrisy you know, the kind of hypocrisy of stand for. Thats of what they stand for. Thats the most privileged people on earth, us that we should the most privileged people on earfeel us that we should the most privileged people on earfeel ashamedthat we should the most privileged people on earfeel ashamed oft we should the most privileged people on earfeel ashamed of ours should all feel ashamed of our existence all feel ashamed of our existom e all feel ashamed of our existom hanks, his face was a tom hanks, his face was a picture, wasnt it . Yeah. Aidan magee still here . Yeah. Dont though, is aidan magee still here . Yeah. Donclassic though, is aidan magee still here . Yeah. Donclassic example ugh, is aidan magee still here . Yeah. Donclassic example of], is aidan magee still here . Yeah. Donclassic example of go is aidan magee still here . Yeah. Donclassic example of go woke. The classic example of go woke. Go buy it go broke . Nobody wants to buy it because a huge lecture. Because its a huge lecture. I get back. It in football the we see it in football all the time. Things, time. You know, all the things, all drifting into. All the politics drifting into. Into sport that weve had over the five or so, the last five years or so, especially tandem with especially with in tandem with with well. With the broadcasters as well. Its what weve its no different to what weve seen and seen in in hollywood and politics and politics and showbiz , suppose could showbiz, i suppose you could say, bit. Say, mixes a little bit. Politics and sport. Its there. Its inextricably linked, but you it. You dont encourage it. You think to think its a bad thing to encourage always encourage it, and it always ends in. In tears. Think, you know, when but i think, you know, when people limelight, people are in the limelight, they like theyve they always do feel like theyve got and they should they always do feel like theyve gothey and they should they always do feel like theyve gothey feel|nd they should they always do feel like theyve gothey feel like hey should they always do feel like theyve gothey feel like theyveuld they always do feel like theyve gothey feel like theyve got it. They feel like theyve got influence. When it influence. But i think when it comes celebrity culture, influence. But i think when it comes always rity culture, influence. But i think when it comes always this culture, influence. But i think when it comes always this loveire, influence. But i think when it comes always this love hate theres always this love hate relationship with it. These days , as it makes the whole thing is just smokescreen for the just a huge smokescreen for the fact they millions fact they earn millions and millions just millions of pounds and they just dont to appear virtuous they want to appear virtuous at time. They want to appear virtuous at arent time. They want to appear virtuous at arent ti fascinated by arent you fascinated by celebrities , though, martin, and celebrities, though, martin, and their it a bit their lifestyles, or is it a bit of a turn off . Fascinated their im fascinated by their hypocrisy. Think. Hypocrisy. Thats what i think. Not fascinated by their im not fascinated by their politics. No, no. Its interesting , steph, talk its interesting, steph, talk to us about ali g revival. Well , you know, comedy at the well, you know, comedy at the moment is a very sensitive area. Comedy can no longer be comedy. And Sacha Baron Cohen, funnily enough, now he wants to bring back one of most back one of his most controversial characters , ali g. Controversial characters, ali g. Hes well loved. The hes well known well loved. The last he saw on the screens last time he saw on the screens was like over ten years ago. Hes done the stint and hes done the odd stint here and there, now about 51 there, but now hes about 51 years he wants to bring years old and he wants to bring ali g back. He wants to do a tour, ali g back. He wants to do a tour , which will interesting. Tour, which will be interesting. I might be more i think it might be more safer for a tour rather than for him to do a tour rather than be because i think at the be on tv because i think at the moment, as weve seen a lot moment, as weve seen with a lot of comedy material, it can be deemed with his deemed offensive. And with his character , it was always character, it was always seen that black street that it was mocking black street culture. So dont know if he culture. So i dont know if he could get away with it now , but could get away with it now, but we do need comedy and we do need more comedy and i think we should allow comedy to be comedy and, know, take be comedy and, you know, take the politics out of it. Funny because ali g. Was its funny because ali g. Was one last great one of the last great politically incorrect comedy creations. I mean, when i was on loaded magazine , it was just it loaded magazine, it was just it was number one sort of was the number one sort of comedy model of all the comedy role model of all the young lads up and down the country. The country. Theyd recite the phrases it because phrases endlessly. Is it because im and all that . And it im black and all that . And it was parody of that. Was absolutely a parody of that. But would it test it . Would it stand the test of time is what im saying. He allow would im saying. Would he allow would he to be that he be allowed to be that politically now . Politically incorrect now . Because then, hes because since then, hes gone incredibly woke and hes a incredibly woke and hes if a new script , if a new script, new script, if a new script, itll neutered. Itll be neutered. Question would how itll be neutered. Before question would how itll be neutered. Before we stion would how itll be neutered. Before we it on would how itll be neutered. Before we it may ould how itll be neutered. Before we it may have how itll be neutered. Before we it may have even w long before we it may have even started happening . Go back 20 years whatever. I think it years or whatever. I think it was yeah. First was late 90s. Yeah. First started wasnt it . Started appearing, wasnt it . I wonder the a bit like only wonder if the a bit like only fools horses. The fools and horses. You see the scripts, scripts adapted and scripts, the scripts adapted and kind down a bit kind of you know tone down a bit for new audience. I think its for a new audience. I think its only it may only a matter of time. It may have even happened already. If its not but but if they, if its not ali and its ali ipsis , i ali g and its ali ipsis, i think itd be absolutely terrible. Well, you know, i think when it comes to comedy is like, if you like those kind of laughs, go shows. You know go see the shows. If you know youre stay away youre sensitive, then stay away from think for from it. Because i think for comedians, theyve got a job to do and dont its fair do and i dont think its fair that watered or that they are watered down or the police after them. The pc police come after them. But i think for ali g, its quite all about nostalgia. So i can imagine he will attract that audience grew up watching audience that grew up watching him on channel 4. Wonder baron cohen i wonder if Sacha Baron Cohen feels that pressure or feels nervous about creating comedy in todays world because its changed so much, hasnt it, since ali g. I think you have to be quite thick skinned now. If youre a comedian, you to that comedian, you have to know that the to come the criticism is going to come and you to aware of it. And you have to be aware of it. But same time, you have but at the same time, you have to read the and dont to read the room and you dont want career being want to get your career being cancelled over saying something wrong , is sometimes find wrong, which is sometimes i find a ridiculous. A bit ridiculous. Okay, stephanie aden, stay with us. Were going up to edinburgh now. Yeah , because renowned around yeah, because renowned around the discovering and the world for discovering and promoting best in the promoting the very best in the creative edinburgh creative arts, the Edinburgh Festival currently in full swing. Lets go live to gb news, scotland reporter mcguire , scotland reporter tony mcguire, whos there for us this morning to tell us more. Tony what can we expect from this weekend. We expect from this weekend. Well, another weekend and full of adventure for anybody whos coming to some of the 3000 plus shows. Now to see that its in full swing might be a bit of a stretch. You know, it is before 10 am. And you know, the performing at the fringe takes quite a strain on the performers. I imagine the bars and clubs were pretty packed out last night. And with first last night. And with the first shows around just shows beginning around just after ten, 11 00 this morning, we can imagine at that point we can finally say that the fringe is swing. But indeed, is in full swing. But indeed, this biggest arts this is the biggest Arts Festival in the world, a culmination of multiple festivals celebrating film, International Arts and culture, as well as the very best of comedy and cabaret at the fringe. Now im here in bristol square. This is one of the real central hubs where some of the massive venue suppliers such as pleasance gilded balloon and underbelly, can have their pounng underbelly, can have their pouring out of the shows. The pubuc pouring out of the shows. The public will come here for a cheeky pint and before diving into the next venue and certainly if we gauge this years success by anything like last year , you know, were last year, you know, were looking at around 2 million tickets sold for those 3000 shows. And indeed, Something Like 53,000 performances over the entirety of august. Now thats quite, quite an impressive number and obviously that takes some amount of strain in the performers. You know, in in the performers. You know, in the last 24 hours, we actually had the performer cancel his show because, you know, it is difficult for some of the smaller performers. And smaller performers. And certainly mark mcadams is 49. He ended up just cancelling the end of his run. And because nobody of his run. And because nobody was there to watch. So its a tough gig. But certainly for those that can make it work and for those who can really get into the festival spirit here in the festival city. And then the festival city. And then theres a lot to be gained from it. Another thing ill just quickly point out is that this years festival have noticed theres quite a political flavour in quite a lot of various venues around the city already this month weve seen the likes of humza yousaf , the likes of humza yousaf, Nicola Sturgeon and Penny Mordaunt and um, various other politicians from across the United Kingdom speaking. It United Kingdom speaking. It shows. And you know, quite often these are big sell outs. So these are big sell outs. So interesting trend for this year so far , but im looking forward so far, but im looking forward to later this afternoon. Were going to speak to some national and International Artists and hopefully over this weekend give our audience a real flavour of what the Edinburgh Festivals have to offer. Have to offer. Theres lots to look forward to and i hope the sun comes out for you there in edinburgh. Thanks so much. Thanks so much. Okay, back to the studio now. Steph, youre still with us. Yeah, im talking about ed sheeran. Apparently hes got the sheeran. Apparently hes got the hump about i. Yeah because as every industry now the big talk is how Artificial Intelligence is how Artificial Intelligence is going to be replacing peoples jobs and how, you know, most industry bosses are saying it could be more of a support. And in the Music Industry now were people whove were seeing that people whove passed lyrics can passed on, even their lyrics can be recited by ai. Its all been be recited by ai. Its all been changed. But ed sheeran has come out and criticised it because he says that in society, society is about giving people jobs. And about giving people jobs. And now were seeing ai take over these jobs. He says he just finds it all weird and he would not be up for his music the not be up for his music in the in future. Being of in the future. Being kind of taken ai. And i do agree taken over by ai. And i do agree with him. Do there has with him. I do think there has to limit on how all ai to be a limit on how all ai needs be safeguarded in that needs to be safeguarded in that sense, where peoples art can still stay intact and people can still stay intact and people can still have jobs. Yeah, its good on on someone like ed sheeran to make a stand, isnt are seeing isnt it . Because we are seeing that we, the artists that now, arent we, the artists who have left us. Down that now, arent we, the artists witheir have left us. Down that now, arent we, the artists witheir estate left us. Down that now, arent we, the artists witheir estate to it us. Down that now, arent we, the artists witheir estate to decide down that now, arent we, the artists witheir estate to decide whatvn to their estate to decide what happens. It gets murky , happens. Yeah, it gets murky, doesnt it . And you know, were seeing and you know, as were seeing with strikes, and you know, as were seeing with nothing strikes, and you know, as were seeing with nothing in strikes, and you know, as were seeing with nothing in strikat theres nothing in place at the moment theres where moment where theres laws where peoples and peoples peoples arent and peoples work protected. So work can be protected. So i think were going to be seeing more conversations more of these conversations happening Music Industry happening in the Music Industry and creative arts. And within the creative arts. Congress, though, talking about the of wokeness of about the kind of wokeness of modern celebrity. Modern celebrity. We bring back the if we could bring back the dead , know, through dead, you know, through ai, lets ai dead, you know, through ai, lets al to pack, lets have a bit of al to pack, you a bit of a bit of ai, you know, a bit of a bit of ai, joe strummer , a bit of punk joe strummer, a bit of punk rock, no limit, you know, lets bnng rock, no limit, you know, lets bring the bring back the dead, because the modern lot just moan about everything. What do you think about that, though . You morally though . Do you think morally thats right. W ma w i think it would be an incredible like weve i think it would be an incre with like weve i think it would be an incre with like like weve i think it would be an incre with like withze weve i think it would be an incre with like with abba, e i think it would be an incre with like with abba, with seen with like with abba, with abba voyage. Now thats abba voyage. Now thats basically but of course basically ai. But of course theyre consent. But thats different. Yeah. Like someone like Amy Winehouse , for example. Yeah, love to , for example. Yeah, id love to have her live. Dont have seen her live. I dont know how morally about her how i feel morally about her being brought back in. I well, it was done to the family. Who the only the people who run the estate, probably estate, theyll probably give the how estate, theyll probably give the relatives how estate, theyll probably give the relatives felt how estate, theyll probably give the relatives felt it. How their relatives felt about it. I mean, it mean, no, well give it give it a but it wont be everyones a go. But it wont be everyones cup of tea. Just cup of tea. just it just all comes down to money. Sadly yeah. If make if you put yeah. If you make if you put out, change bit. Yeah. Out, thatll change a bit. Yeah. Know there the but you know there doing the unreleased single unreleased beatles single because got a lennon vocal because they got a lennon vocal they put it through ai and theyve made sound perfect. Theyve made it sound perfect. I think eyes are going to be think the eyes are going to be on video that because on the video for that because what an ai . John what if they have an ai . John lennon band now . So he lennon with the band now . So he effectively seems alive. I think that could be an incredible moment where one of the most venerable , revered yet deceased venerable, revered yet deceased rock and roll stars of all time could be brought back to life through i. I would love to see that i think it would be fascinating to see. I just think now its like people are just going bit too people are just going a bit too far. I just people are just going a bit too far. I just think, people are just going a bit too far. I just think, know, to far. I just think, you know, to the point where i find it, for me be a scary seeing me itll be a bit scary seeing someone died being brought someone whos died being brought back ai someone whos died being brought back al on stage. Back to life in al on stage. I just i think that just that doesnt me. Well, doesnt sit right with me. Well, i itd be great. Doesnt sit right with me. Well, i wevei be great. Doesnt sit right with me. Well, i weve been|reat. Doesnt sit right with me. Well, i weve been talking about weve been talking about houday weve been talking about holiday morning. We holiday stress this morning. We were talking about it earlier. Essentially brits are very anxious going holiday anxious about going on holiday for a variety reasons. Ive for a variety of reasons. Ive got views this morning. Got some views in this morning. Dan in nottingham, good morning to you says i find the most stressful things about holidays is profiteering from is the profiteering from a houday is the profiteering from a holiday companies. I like to take the family because obviously theres no good weather in uk, but weather guarantee in the uk, but i know we could we could save over £1,000 if you take off those extra charges. Taking those extra charges. Taking a suitcase all of sort of suitcase and all of that sort of jazz, get holiday anxiety . Yes, i do. But i only get it at the airport. I think the airport is the part which i just do not like, just having to go through passport control, security, to be honest, im security, but to be honest, im just glad that covid is over because i found travelling through the pandemic and not knowing was, different knowing what that was, different laws and what would need laws are and what you would need in and vaccines. In terms of tests and vaccines. So things have got better now, but it seems like were not quite there. I remember getting to gdansk in two years ago for the Europa League final , so was my league final, so i was in my cameraman bit kind cameraman was a little bit kind of overzealous getting there six hours i said, goodness of overzealous getting there six hours have;aid, goodness of overzealous getting there six hours have to i, goodness of overzealous getting there six hours have to waitodness of overzealous getting there six hours have to wait around me, well have to wait around the gdansk airport for ages. But its turned be its actually turned out to be the right decision because we have get covid have to queue up and get covid tests about made tests and were just about made our thats i our flight. And thats what i call a friend call anxiety and a friend of mine from the sun, a guy called charlie up me and charlie wyatt, came up to me and said and said to me, why on earth summer, is earth this summer, this is summer would want summer of 2021. Would you want to through summer of 2021. Would you want t and staff you know, we talked quickly harry quickly earlier about harry being back being forgiven and welcomed back into well, seems into the fold. Well, it seems nobody no on this. Nobody agrees with no on this. Ive been getting a twitter backlash show. No return without dave says no return without pubuc dave says no return without public apologies may in sheffield to be honest, im sick about hearing every about hearing them every five minutes. Says. I would love minutes. Pat says. I would love to see harry in the fold, to see harry back in the fold, though. With though. So he does agree with you. Love you. He heres a man in love and has family cannot be asked has a family he cannot be asked to choose between country to choose between his country and family so the and family and them. So the jurys out . Jurys still out . Wendy says harry is yeah. Wendy says harry is like a partner who cheats on you. Might still love them, but. You might still love them, but you cant. But the trust is gone. Them again. Gone. Not trust them ever again. Lifes too short. I just think. Forgive forget. Yeah. Think. Forgive and forget. Yeah. Youre very good , harry. Youre very good, harry. Youre very good, harry. Forgive and forget. All forgive and forget. All i think i agree with steph ash. I you to allow ash. I think you have to allow his you know, hes his standing as you know, hes the kings son. And yeah, families the time. Families fall out all the time. You in you know, i had periods in my life didnt to life where i didnt speak to brothers and family and everything, things move on, everything, but things move on, dont are we going to keep dont they . Are we going to keep this this situation terminal for forevermore . There has to be some flexibility built in. I think blood is thicker than water. A lot thick water. Alot thick the water. A lot thick the water. A lot is thick in the water. Watch might see watch this space. We might see harry back the fold. Well, harry back in the fold. Well, aiden , stephanie, really aiden, stephanie, really good for morning. For having us. Good morning. Quality with very, quality time with you. Very, very and thats from quality time with you.
