A Gastonia grocery store sold a $1 million winning lottery ticket.
Gloria Walls and Gary Daniel of Clover, South Carolina, bought the winner $10 Jumbo Bucks scratch-off ticket at the Harris Teeter on Robinwood Road.
The couple claimed their prize last week at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. They had the choice of taking the $1 million as an annuity of 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. The couple opted for the lump sum and each took home $212,251, or $424,502 total, after required state and federal tax withholdings.
“When I scratched off that number ‘9’ I couldn’t speak and the tears came down,” said Walls.
