Gary schools bill debated, changes coming for local transition

For about three hours Thursday, a state Senate panel heard testimony on the past, present and possible future of the Gary Community School Corp. Senate Bill 327 outlines the end of an on-the-ground state takeover by a private education management company and hands off governing responsibilities to a school board appointed by the state Secretary of Education.
