When you voted in last month’s presidential election, you might have thought you were choosing between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
In fact, you were casting your vote for people whose names didn’t appear on the ballot. Biden, the Democratic nominee, and Trump, the Republican incumbent, each had slates of 38 electors — pre-selected by their political parties — standing in for them.
