PMC failed to act despite 2018 disaster claiming 4 lives
In October 2018 a 40-feet
hoarding collapsed at
Mangalwar Peth on vehicles waiting at a traffic light, claiming the lives of four commuters and motorists and injuring many others. As is its wont,
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) conducted a structural audit of all hoardings in all its 15 wards a few months later. However, this may have been a futile exercise given that it skipped its own sky signs. Not known to learn its lessons well, the civic body is again courting a disaster waiting to happen – this time on the Pune-Mumbai National Highway, near Wakdewadi and Patil Estate.
