Galesburg Police were dispatched to OSF St. Mary's Medical Center on Friday, February 18th, for a female victim of a domestic battery. The victim, with visible injuries to both wrists and a severely swollen knee, told police 41-year old Cory Ward of Galesburg beat her up and took her phone preventing her from calling the police. The altercation occurred after Ward tried to kick the victim out of his house. Police responded to the residence in the 500 block of Lincoln Street. Police made contact with Ward who denied all the allegations. While speaking with police, a pitbull approached officers and was kicked by Ward causing the dog to cry out, according to police reports. A witness confirmed the domestic battery victim's story and also told officers that Ward routinely kicks the dog. Knox County Animal Control did a well-being check on the dog and told the witness, who is the actual owner, that if the dog isn't moved to a safe location they will seize it. Ward was arrested and transported to the Knox County Jail. He was charged with Domestic Battery, Interfering with a Report of Domestic Violence, and Animal Cruelty.
