About 40 people gathered Tuesday to learn more — and to let their ideas be known — about how roughly $24 million in American Rescue Plan funds coming to the City of Gadsden should be used.
City Planning Director Nick Hall talked about what the money can't be used for — paying debt service, legal settlements or judgments, or deposits to pension funds or to rainy day funds or financial reserves, for example — and about the ways it can be used.
The eligible uses, by statute are:
To respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency or its negative economic impacts;
To respond to workers performing essential work during the COVID-19 public health emergency by providing premium pay to those workers;
