Why This Album Matters:
Gold-Diggers Sound is the third album from Fort Worth's Leon Bridges. The Texan's debut, 2015’s
Coming Home, was a showcase for his smooth, emotive voice and his intuitive feel for classic soul music of the '60s and '70s, while 2018's
Good Thing showed a man and a musician curious to reach beyond his early influences. On
Gold-Diggers Sound, Bridges expands his musical spectrum, an easy thing to do when you're working with folks like producers Ricky Reed and Nate Mercereau, pianist and composer Robert Glasper, and multi-instrumentalist Terrace Martin, as Bridges does on this album. Bridges and Glasper's subdued and jazzy “Born Again" is a real highlight, as is the moody and atmospheric “Motorbike.”
