Taipei, March 17 (CNA) An ongoing project to improve road conditions on the Suhua Highway along Taiwan's rugged east coast will make travel on the route safer, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) said Wednesday in the wake of a fatal tour bus crash the previous day.
Construction has been planned since 2019 for three stretches of the highway, which connects Yilan and Hualien counties, said Minister of Transportation and Communications Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍).
Safety enhancements between Dongao and Nanao in Yilan County, as well as between Heping and Hezhong, and Heren and Chongde in Hualien County will complement a major overhaul the highway underwent between 2011 and 2020, Lin said.
