Who at the start of 2020 would have guessed that, in a few short months, a Brompton bicycle would become as desirable, and unavailable, as a Birkin bag? Or that, in short order come the first lockdown, ‘quarantini o’clock’ would drift inexorably forward with each passing day of the global pandemic? Unsurprisingly, a year like no other has rewritten the rule book on what we should expect of the average twelve-month. But it’s also contributed an artillery of fresh acronyms with which to explain our current predicament along with some necessarily strange neologisms by which to remember it.
