Grace Watkins says when documenting the rise of online gaming it is too easy to be seduced by the eye-wateringly high e-sports prizewinnings and viewership numbers for tournaments that tower over the Super Bowl, but this ignores the action on platforms like YouTube and Twitch.
“E-sports is a bit of a buzzword, but it is just a tiny part of a much, much bigger picture here,” she says. “And for me, I'm probably more excited about where gaming is going in terms of live and video-on-demand content.”
