(ABC 6 NEWS) - If a career in highway construction interests you, there is now a way this summer for you to get the training needed for free.
The Free Highway and Heavy Construction Training through the City of Rochester, MnDOT, Destination Medical Center, Workforce Development Inc., and Laborers Local 405 have all partnered up to make this free training happen June 1.
The training was made possible through a $100,000 award from MnDOT for training, recruitment, and screening, and placement with contractors. The course is focused on minorities, women, and disadvantaged individuals.
"We have a low number of women participating in these projects and we really want them to take advantage of this opportunity to get training and then to get interviews after the training is finished to walk right into a job this summer," said the City of Rochester Project Manager, Jorrie Johnson.
