François Nars's Ridiculously Chic French Mum Is The Brand's Latest Make-Up Muse

Memories of our mothers performing their beauty routines tend to inform how we approach our own later on in life. With childlike awe, we remember the welcoming, neck-nuzzling smell of their signature scent, or how utterly glamorous they looked when they applied lipstick. Mr François Nars, founder and creative director of NARS, has translated his own memories of his mother (and muse), Claudette, into The Claudette Collection, a limited-edition edit of lipsticks, blushers, and an eyeshadow palette.

In true NARS style, it’s a beautiful collection, with all manner of wearable tones (from the neutral mink and brown hues of the eyeshadow palette, to lipstick shades that span from rosy beige to scarlet red) that Claudette was more than happy to put her name to after her son proposed the idea to his “laid-back and a bit shy” mother. Creating the collection was a breeze: “It was a very easy process because by now, at her age, we know what she likes, and we know what I like on her. She trusts me, I trust her, and I knew what she wanted in this collection,” he says.
