Will array, the head, direct the director of North Carolina Emergency department Emergency Management. Think you, governor. Good afternoon, everyone. Of the governor said, were here with Fema Today to retake an opportunity to survey the damage not just here in Buncombe County but in the western counties that have been so significantly impacted by this event. We currently have 15 county eeocs that remain open with 31 states of emergency in place. Of the 92 Search And Rescue assets thAt The governor mentioned, three of those are federal teams, 22 are from other states, and 54 organic North Carolina. And really cannot overstate the importance of partnership both here in North Carolina as well as the support that we have had from our colleagues in other states as well as the federal government. Today, we are continuing to wrap up grandpa pushes our commodities particularly water and employees as well as fuel and other resources into the impact communities. We are increasing the number of assets we have On The Road and in the air to be able to make those moves as well as working with fema to be able to sustain those levels over the next couple of weeks. As we look over the horizon, at whAt The duration of this event and the recovery can be earmarked we currently have three Feeding Sites open, those are in buncombe, mcdowell and whAt Target. We did visit one of them earlier today is the governor mentioned in my currently over 7000 North Carolina onions have already taken an opportunity to register for fema individual assistance and there is already money flowing into peoples pockets are marked again to start getting them off on the right foot and assist them in the recovery. We have a state medical support sheltered is also open to assist both with decompression of our Health Care facilities but also longterm pairs that may have had damage and may need to move patients into a safer and secure location and we are also standing up a second location that can be scaled up significantly should we be needed. Unfortunately, our confirmed fatalities for this event have increased to 33 over the day and into the evening yesterday. As the governor said, we are seeing an increase in Capacity And Capability in the Communication Sector across western North Carolina. We still have always to go but we have 16911 centers are still currently degraded with Fallback Plans in place. Thats an improvement from what we have seen over the last couple of Days End lastly, we have 121 systems are currently have boiled water i buy a series. And of those, 33 likely as we have discussed before are in need of their testing to clear of those advisories and we have 36 systems literally have no power. We are working with our federal partners as well as our partners here in the state on getting the right resources into be able to bring these critical Water Systems back online. Lastly, i would just say thank you again to the county, the city, mission, other partners here in this jurisdiction that are doing such incredible work to care for the needs of this community and of western North Carolina. Thank you, governor, P Mack. Weve been grateful to have the Fema A Ministry with us all day and shes going to be here for a while. Shes gotten to see firsthand whats happening here in North Carolina and has gotten to hear some needs directly from people. Sophia minnaert administrative dan grosswall, administrator. Thank you, governor. And afternoon, everyone. First i just want to start by seeing on her behalf of the Bidenharris Demonstration our deepest sympathies go out to those who have lost Loved Ones, does have incurred damages as a result of the storm, and At The president s direction, we are going to be here along as it takes to finish this response and continue through the recovery. As you heard, this from the governor, this is a historic storm with catastrophic impact across many communities. What were the people of North Orlando to know that we have the resources here in North Carolina to help with this response to begin the recovery, we will continue to send additional resources in. So far, we have over 1200 personnel from across the federal families, supporting the Response Efforts that includes things like our searchandrescue teams, or medical teams from Health And Human Services, the Army Corps of engineers that are doing assessments of Water Systems and power infrastructure. And we have our incidents responsible as well as in the county or the local communities so we can have seamless communication with those on the ground and the impacted areas as well as with the state so we can move those resources as quickly as possible. I was able to see some of the Devastation Today while i was with the governor and we are starting to think ahead about the resources that might be needed as recovery is going to continue or even to provide some Rest And Relief for the responders that have been working so hard, day in and day out since the storm passed. We will be bringing in additional dod medical teams to help support some of the longterm sustainable needs to run some of the medical facilities, we will continue to bring in additional Search And Rescue resources as needed. Will continue to also bring in the Army Corps of engineers to start planning, theyve already started planning but more resources for the Debris Removal and this is going to have a significant Debris Removal mission. I think the biggest thing that i can say right now is that again At The direction of the president , he had asked madetomeasure that we have every federal resource available to support the people of North Carolina and thinking about those resources and perhaps a way that we wouldnt traditionally use them. And he has directed me to stay as long as it takes to ensure that a federal family are here, supporting North Carolina and we are being meeting the needs the governor has identified. Thank you. Thank you, administrator. North carolina national guard has such a significant role in the Search And Rescue and thAt The thank you, governor, and first of all, i want to thank the national guard for the Dedication And Service from the state of North Carolina. I would also like to thank the astral airport for being our partner and helping distribute commodities to earlier that you see any. Right now in the national guard we have almost 800 people on duty for this specific event. We have our primary responsibility and our primary focus right now is still Search And Rescue and recovery. And then relocation followed by commodities. This morning we brought in 100,000 pounds of water and commodities on a c17. Weve also done 100,000 pounds through our Helicopter Lifts know we have. We continue to service the area, weve hit im sorry, eight counties within the region already with commodities, and we will continue to push soldiers into the region to help the citizens of the western North Carolina. Thank you, governor, P Mack one of the major issues we have is Ingress And Egress and making sure that we clear roads. We still have some communities that are cut off, there North Carolina department of transportation has been working hard to clear roads and get roads back open. Im going to call on our secretary of transportation, joey hopkins. Thank you, governor, P Mack good afternoon, everyone. First of all our hearts go on we have an m we do not want you here, if you dont live here and youre not coping with the storm. Of the will continue to be our message pushing forward if the coming days. If you been on the map apps, there are also sending that same message out we will continue saying that. This is an Allhandsondeck Type of event. We have over 1600 employees working now. We have over 73 Contract Crews helping us also. And that number is growing every day. We have crews coming from other states, Tomorrow Florida is sending crews appear to help us and theyre also bringing some assets like temporary bridges to help us make temporary repairs. So we are doing there. And i do want to see again that many of our recruits are working, they have not been home there may they do not know whAt Their own damages and do the Communication Issue is, to be not been able to find out from their own families how theyre doing. So im very thankful and grateful for the litigation as public servants in the state of North Carolina and my hearts and thoughts and prayers go out to them too mack in an effort to help, weve also secured a location for housing for our employees because some of the hotels either dont have Power Or Water or the ones that do dont have rooms earmarked so that will be set up in the next day or so for about 250 people and we are working on that. And i also want to echo whAt The governors and others have said, i want to thank our many partners along with our staff that help to alert people, them helps to respond, to storms and downed trees. That goes from the North Carolina national guard to the state highway patrol. Local law enforcement, first responders, and even private citizens are helping clear trees. We learned today that Mission Hospital is also helped to clear trees from road so their employees can get to the hospital to help serve the critical care needs of our people in western North Carolina. And lastly, i want to thank our federal partners at Fema And H fhwa, you can see female boots undergone here, we are thankful for that and grateful for this assistance. We and also the acting Fhwa Administrator to and im grateful for their help. This is one of the most catastrophic events weve ever seen in North Carolina and i just ask for your patience as we continue to try to solve the transportation issues here in North Carolina. Thank you. Were also concerned about Health Care facilities, our hospitals, our Horse Nursing homes. We have with us Today Secretary of department of Health And Human Services kenzie. Thank you, governor, as Governor Cooper said, we have been were focused At The department of Health And Human Services on ensuring the stability of our Health Care system here in the region. We have 22 acutecare hospitals in western North Carolina. As a last night, all have had her their power restored back onto the grid. All of them had generated power during the storms and were able to continue operations and supporting the communities and weve been in direct near hourly contact with those facilities to support a number of resource requests. And with support from the North Carolina national Air Guard and Emergency Management, weve been able to get food, fuel, water and other supplies to those Health Care facilities to make sure thAt They say they operating. Today, we went to Mission Hospital to see firsthand the heroic efforts of the individuals At That hospital over 1000 staff that have been sleeping there every day to ensure thAt They can continue operations and supporting their community. We continued to walk work to bring them resources to have the power back on saturday night, and they were all focused, working very hard to reach Restore Water Resources in the community but meanwhile bringing in temporary solutions to support water there. Were also very focused on our longterm Care Community and facilities, filled nursing homes, Adult Care Homes and were proactively working with our insurers to identify individuals that are at home on oxygen and other medical supplies to make sure we can proactively reach out to them they might support Emergency Management to bring resources to them. Weve activated our patient Transfer System so that hospitals all across the states are stepping up to bring individuals in need of critical care of hospitals in western North Carolina if they cant get the care immediately. Our entire department has rallied every resource to make the difference. Resort with four for the work of fema who immediately brought forth a disaster medical Assistance Team on the ground at Mission Hospital and we are in this for the long haul and into recovery. Thank you. We also have without the signatory of of Public Safety eddie buffalo, our head of the highway patrol, freddie johnson, and Congressman Chuck edwards is here as well. Well be glad to take your [inaudible question by the media] first, we knew thAt This was going to be a significant event There Mack and local officials told people to get out of lowlying areas. We also know there was going to be a significant number of fedeli we also know there are going to be like Magna Devastation was beyond belief. And even when we prepare for something like this, this is something thats never happened before in western North Carolina. Searchandrescue teams are continuing to work. We even talk with the member people who are so hoping to get and talk with their people in the fullservice comes back up, when will know a little more. I will ask will reduce respond specifically if he knows that number, and you know the number of people . Okay we dont know the number that has been requested. But we asked people to call 211 if theyre trying to get a hold of somebody, dont call 911. Right now on that kind of issue. Roy cooper it, you mentioned progress being made on selfservice [inaudible] so we are getting reports from At T and verizon, their initial problems were significant in that landslides cut main Fibre Lines for them. Weve asked them and push them to bring in their deployable assets so more of them are getting into the area and we are getting reports that more and more have selfservice. Will, will you want to answer that . I would say progress is the key. We know we still have a lot of work to do. Again. But i think we are pushing our commercial providers as well as other partners across the commercial space to bring in mobile assets of a variety of types to be able to provide the critical sites, the local vocs, to some of our public Safety Answering Point for other critical facilities. Again, they are very integral to what we do, their huge piece of it. We know communication is important for everybody and so we are going to to continue to push and encourage there. What do you say to the residents that say their local and federal Response Wasnt fast enough people are working across the cool around the clock to provide help to them right now. Food, water, working hard to make sure that we got shelters open all across this area, and working to get power back on when you have a situation where communities are completely cut off, when first Responders Cant even get in because water is still there and rivers are riding right now as we speak. A lot of work is done. What we want to tell people is that more help is on the Way And Help is continuing. This is our main mission right now, and this was a massive, coordinated efforts to help this area both in the [inaudible question by the media] im going to let Director Ray Answer that issue. I think as we think about the Scalp Size and scale of the men thats why weve taken the approach that we have, especially for distribution of water and food. So well over a year able to get Ground Routes and reliably in safety, we are using those rocks. As secretary hopkins mentioned, there is a Ground Routes and through on I40 End there is a growing role in via i26, we know there are many areas of the western part of the state that are still so have major extra challenges which is why weve put in place the operation you see here of moving, using a graph to move commodities into those impacted areas. Right now, we are trying to search as much of the communities in the basement into the entire impacted region. Yesterday as an example, either via ground or by air, 30 counties have cut had communities commodities delivered to the mystery. We know were not going to be able to meet right now out of the gate the universal need that everyone has, thats why we are we are surging up those are distribution so we are putting additional drivers on the be able to get more trucks On The Road, to get commodities and faster. Were continuing to increase the number of aircraft that are operating wascana. I think the impact especially here in are significant. As the administrator said we are using some of our partnerships with the u. S. Army Corps And Fema to get some teams on the ground to determine what is the Longrange Solution to get these Water Systems back online as well as plan some of the midrange solutions to get the hospital, other critical infrastructure back online so that folks do have Running Water. I think we are back to the previous question, i will say, we have continued to deliver water both here and to Buncombe County to support Buncombe County as well as the city of asheville. We know there is more need there, we know there is more than they need in both Food And Water and we will continue to surgeon those resources and to be able to support those local [inaudible question by the media] right now, Mission Hospital is bringing in upwards of 20 trucks a day of water to support the hospitals operations There Mack in addition to package sterile water so they can continue operations. We know its a huge challenge for the hospital and we are working actively with them to determine other potential strategies. And Director Ray said, midterm solutions that will get running pressurized water into the facility as soon as possible is a Top Priority for us. Neil youve been listening to a briefing by a North Carolina officials, you know, the hailing Death Toll has topped about 100 across some sick states. A third of thats essentially coming from North Carolina alone and specifically the town of asheville, North Carolina in the beautiful community battered and looking like a war zone today. Help is underway and the president s we are told is making sure that help does get underway. Former president s also doing his part to show support for victims of this incredible storm, he was in Georgia A Little Bit earlier. I want to go to Steve Harrigan though whos in asheville, North Carolina. Uptown has a Long Way To Go to come back. Steve . Certainly does, neil. Emissions here pretty rough but signs of encouragements smacks on the one hand talking about help on The Way, setting some statistics they see at least 100,000 pounds of aids brought in by Cargo Plane Today also another 100 food, water, generators brought in by helicopters as well as to help is on The Way but some really disconcerting facts there as well when you really listen to that press conference. 16 911 Call Centers in western North Carolina still not functioning. That means if you have electric power to charge your phone which most people here dont, if you had a Cell Phone Signal which missed most people here dont, it would be no one to call him that no one would be on the other end of that phone. Thats got to worry some people. As far as Running Water goes it could be weeks until their 20 water back here. I think the big overall concern here is the Storm Hit so far away, 500 miles away, you really get the sense that not only officials but a lot of locals were taken by surprise by the enormity of this destruction. The water was, like, right at my feet level. And then, you know, woke up my roommate and grabbed all my things and by the time we were, you know, 20 minutes later we were leaving, it was maybe 6 inches to a foot high . So we went through a window and it just kept rising. By the time i made it back it was maybe to my waist. You hear the reports about everything being brought in by air in large part that is because so many roads are down, three of the major four highways that come into asheville down 300 roads down across the state over all so really tough to get an surprise when roads are either washed out or blocked. Neil, back to you. Neil you know, steve, you covered so many disasters and War Zones and hurricanes, tornadoes, but what made this so unique and in the case of helene is when this word started it looked like it was grazing to be a threAt To florida, lessor going north and then well look At The six states of devastation, particularly in North Carolina, or got one net Cord Lena Town were the town of roughly a third of the fatalities, i dont think anyone saw that coming. No. I mean, when he couldnt think of another storm were d6 was far worse, for more deadly, far more destructive than the one . This happened 500 miles away, i covered the storm in florida i thought it was over, i was at home and i said oh, you got to go because its much worse actually now, six days later. Neil wild stuff. Steve, thank you so much for that. I want to update you on this excessive Rain Rescue her from places like raleigh, North Carolina and richmond, Virginia Part of tennessees vaughan of the state of South Carolina so you can say why cui six states have all but claimed disaster territories and seeking Disaster Release released. Five of the six have already done so, so youll georgia was among those hard hit as well and thats where former President Donald Trump visited earlier today, Alexander Hall has more from the doctor. Alexandra . Hi, neil. Year the former president said he came here to show solidarity and signals are buried there with all Those Living In Georgia who are struggling and all victims were living in helenes rastall, her break right now. He also said he brought supplies with them like Water And Gotland and did so in partnership with franklin grahams relief organization, syrup samaritans purse. The former president held a Moment Of Silence for lives lost and gave listen. As you know, our country is in the final weeks of a hardfought national election. But in a time like this, when a crisis hits, when our fellow citizens cry out, in need, none of that matters. Were not talking about politics. May be not in that very Moment But Trump has been critical of the biden Administrations Response saying this after landing in georgia. Mr. Trump the governor is doing a very good job, hes guarding a hard time getting the president on the phone. I guess theyre not being responsible responsive, the federal government is not being responsive but theyre having a very hard time the president s on the phone. But governor brian kept earlier today that he did speak with president biden yesterday after initially missing his call. Out of this morning he said that he invites President President harris were playing phone tag, the next hour the Vice President you will receive a briefing from fema on the impact of Hurricane Helene and the federal response is taking place, she had canceled scheduled Campaign Events out west to return to washington, d. C. that something of the former President Trump had been critical of that she and president biden were not in washington while the storm made landfall. Former President Trump also said today that he talked with Elon Musk about getting starling capabilities to those who are still struggling with communicating with their Loved Ones right now, neil. Neil yet theres got to be a way to fix that if you cant communicate with anyone may be starling or something they could hook up with people via satellite is maybe The Way to do it but its so sad. Alexandria, Great Coverage as elroy always. I want to go to Steve Bender and dont say steve didnt warn you so steve, what are we looking at here . Neil, we have so much activity out in the atlantic think fully its deep out into the atlantic. Will go through some of those main storms and check them on the list and then well talk about that area to watch which is of concern. Theres kirk, right, the newly named storm, likely to become a very powerful storm, cadres potential but is going out into At The atlantic Like Joyce and atlantic no List Address that area to watch. This is still in that same atmospheric pattern that spawned helene, is the central american gyre, this area in or ensuring thAt The potential. Years the good news, neil, the latest Model Trains slowing this down and the degreasing that likelihood of actually developments. So when you look At The time frame, areas in orange, friday through sunday were looking At This weekend, to be of compacting them At The southern goals, thats where we could be potentially seeing any if not just widespread showers setting up end the concern though is friday through early next week, these are the same areas thAt Took the historic Line Landfall from Helene Other came in 140 miles per hour. So spots like Cedar Keegan and very heavy rain, Appalachian Coal and, those days still very heavy rain. I know this expense extensive coverage on the carolinas, tennessee, georgia, even southern virginia, rightfully so but still major damage in florida and with rain on the Way Something that will be watching closely here on Fox Weather and make easter we talk about well in advance of people can prepped for that, neil. Neil you know, steve, whats remarkable about this and you and i touched about this one we had discussions about the storm is it because the most damage when it wasnt really a Hurricane Status anymore, merely a tropical Storm Status and it reminded me some years back in New Jersey and the New York Metropolitan Area with the Superstorm Sandy did, that was a noreaster so youre reminding viewers if you pay attention to the magnitude of this or the severity of the storm, what category it falls under, sometimes that matters very little. Youve got 2foot Storm Surges as you reported, you got serious problems. Yeah, neil, the category is only the wind, right, thats a threat out of many. Inland flooding that we experience in the carolinas and tennessee, that is actually the deadliest aspect of storm. So thAt The concern with this is when you have tropical moisture from the gulf and by The Way, the Western Atlantic aided in some of that moisture hitting the eastern appalachian mountains. That allows that rain were me know, neil, when the Rain In he comes rushing down into the valleys and oftentimes that is where you have those beautiful communities like chimney rock, asheville, boone and so many others that were first getting or now getting into details though and try to help with those recovery efforts. Neil all right. I want to thank you and your colleagues, neil, and great help as well. In the meantime, were getting word that israel is no warning residents in beirut suburbs to evacuate because immanence strikes on his route has blood targets. Weve got Mike Poulin with more. It looks like food, it smells like food, its what dogs are supposed to be eating. Sq. Neil all right, israel seems to be indicating an attack would be imminent right now in lebanon and has warned individuals in that area to clear out and protect themselves because theyre not done going up to hezbollah and for that matter how much, a key Hamas Official also killed today in multiple rates, we get that rate latest right now from Mike Tobin in haifa. Mike . Neil neil, the Artillery Fire started really about two hours ago and generally what you get with the Artillery Fire and what we see in the israeli doing in the past if they soften the battlefield what i is the Blast And Area and anything that is not will generally get out of The Way and are you looking at some video of the Ground Forces that have been massing there. Two Rates Encampment of armour with those also Artillery And Armour personnel carriers. They presumably are going in on the ground now we do have some light but we have one thing i should know is thAt Theres that live rim and the is the town its like this may looks like its showing they would buy it what weve been able to see flashes on the lebanese side of the Border Indication that of different types of strikes that are going in and also some of the defiant rockets coming out other south of lebanon as the hezbollah fighters are still digging in. What were getting from u. S. Officials who mean speaking to the israeli counterparts is thAt This is not going to be like the 2006 invasion into lebanon that lasted for 34 days. This is said to be a limited Ground Incursion double Target Hezbollah Infrastructure and its supposed to wrap up shortly after that. But it is a significant chapter, a new chapter in this conflict for the first time since the Rocket Fire started almost a year ago out of lebanon, israeli Ground Forces are at least on the verge of going and if theyre not already in underground. Neil . Neil mike, thank you very much my friend. Mike tobin may not be safe. As he alluded all of this happening very close to the Oneyear Anniversary of the attack on israel by hamas that claimed more than 1200 lives and of all the stories of the people ive had the opportunity to talk with over that roughly one year, i was on the air live when that horror was unfolding out of The Middle East on that saturday, nine move me more than this story of this woman and her family and her mission, lives Hearst Mcauley is her name, the book is or mark saving abigail, desk True Story Of Deceiving im honored to have you and thank you on this day of all this to be talking to you but i think we how are you doing . I am okay. I mean, its been almost a year. So its really rough. And made everything thats going on today, it makes it even harder because you still have hostages and we know thAt These are humans and these are people that need to come home. Neil yeah, there are 96, think 97 by last count bottomline, we dont know about their whereabouts with fears thAt Their lives might very well be in danger. I always think about your beautiful greatniece, abigail, and what she had to endure that day less than a year ago. Both her parents killed by hamas. Shes taken hostage, and Lo And Behold, 50 some odd days later, shes freed thanks to your efforts. How the heck did that happen . Well, you know, it was a lot of work from a lot of people. And one of the things that i realized when we learned that abigail had actually survived because originally, she was in her fathers arms when he was gunned down and murdered by hamas, trying to escape and her Brother And Sister who were running next to their father after they had all three three caves in their mother murder, he was murdered and she was under him. And a six and 9yearold thought she had been killed so they ran and locked themselves in this closet for 14 hours before they can be rescued. So when we learned that abigail had actually crawled out and gone to a neighbor and had been with the neighbor and her three children and then kidnapped. And i learned that, had already come back to america, i will in israel on octo October Seventh. And it was the worst day, one of the worst, probably the worst day i can imagine in my Life And Diversity for israel. And for abigail and for our family. In one of the things are realized was when i came back, you know, we thought in the beginning, this is going to end, you know, you just thought thAt This the hostages would be released. And what we learned that it wasnt going to happen. And so it just became okay this Call To Action and i found myself in a position and i write about in the book where this woman from North Carolina, sofia, just called me and said im going to d. C. come and tell your story. And that was the beginning of this movement of so many people telling their stories so that people can understand that we all had to come together make this happen. And thankfully, and miraculously not, 105 women and children were released At The end of november and abigail is another day like you said one of the people they met one of the little kids that were released. Neil you know, she was three years old At The time, four now. Shook does she remember on of that day . I know she was has a 6yearold brother, 11yearold sister, im sure they do but luck may not she knows that she was kidnapped. She know she was in gaza. She knows who she was with, she knows who was guarding her, shes four years old so we do not cry and resorted sort are waiting for for her to talk about it but she is very, very smart and she knows exactly what happened that day and her six and 9yearold Brother And Sister know what happened. And these are children that one year later, Vanguard Vaughan they are safe. But they dont have a mom and a dad and they dont have a home. Deliver their own and uncle and they have a beautiful and my beautiful family now with the other three cousins. But they know what happened to them. They know the terror of what happened on October Seventh. Neil you know, i cant imagine myself, liz, and you put new definition in great aunt by The Way but when you saw appreciated the gravity of what happened that day, i believe you are doing a walk and were going to do your exercises when all the sirens were going off and running and pushing and little did you know it would affect your family. But here we are a year later, the war still rages, it could be expanding right now with these strikes on hezbollah. How do you feel about going after these Terrorist Groups the Way Israel is right now and The Way it has been hamas . Well there are two parts to this. One, these are terror groups. And they have no they cannot exist. And israel have to protect itself and israel has a right to defend itself and i believe thAt These terrorists who are responsible for the murder of abigails family, 1200 people, and as we know and hezbollah case, its common thAt There is possible for over 40 years over murdering americans, people all over the world and make their own people and israelis. So that is something that must be dealt with and im not an Expert Vaughan but i support thAt They need to be eradicated. But in the same breath, i also know that we have over A Hundred hostages, seven of them are americans. And they have two we have to get a plan, a diplomatic plan for their release. So while there is this war going on and i understand it and by The Way, it will also help to end with some sort of diplomacy because thats how wars and nfl people can move forward, i focus right now and i ask everybody to understand thAt There are hostages, real people, children, young people, boys, men, women then my grandparents, and i said seven americans, and they need to be released. So in this moment, i feel like its been a year and there have been many opportunities and i really call upon the leadership in israel, a Cal Up On on prime Minister Netanyahu and his coalition and other people like make this happen because no matter how much israel must protect itself and i support that, these people need to come back for israel, for their families to move on, and for israel to move on and for it to heal because until they are returned, October Seventh lays very happy heavy on the souls and hearts of the israeli people. Neil these antiisraeli protests still pop up and continue around the world, i dont know if well see more as a result of these israeli actions against hezbollah. How do you feel about those . Well, one of the reasons that i wrote this book was because i wanted people to know the truth. I needed people in america, people around the world, no really what happened. And Abigail Story as you said is just so like it so its horrific and its also one of the stories were its like Theres Resilience and theres hope. And so when i wrote this book, my goal was to basically say, this is what happen. So those people that are denying and protesting may not understand that on october 6, there was a ceasefire. Hamas may markets organization, that in the most deadly way by 3000 hamas fighters coming in and killing and rampaging and and kidnapping. So i needed the story to be told. But also want to remind everybody thats listening, the minute the hostages are released, then we have an opportunity also for the fighting to stop and then we have an opportunity for the people in gaza who are suffering to be taken care of periods when you ask that question, i think the people dont really understand that were all in this together to bring home these hostages, to help the people in gaza. Neil for enough. Liz, your remarkable woman, your remarkable you have a remarkable greatniece and you are a remarkable great aunts and this is a remarkable book and its only about 200 pages, if you finish that with a dryad thAt Then there could be something wrong with you. Saving abigail, The True Story of the saving and abducting of a hostage. Take a back seat. Well maybe its time to shift gears on that. Aspen dental has complete, affordable care all under one roof. Neil all right, on top of all the other calamities as they, not talk tonight that we could see Dockworkers Strike that could affect Tens Of Thousands of workers and mean everything that youve been waiting for, want to get in time for christmas, is going to be late, delayed or not at all so maybe santa is a little bummed out about that. Your blog right now on what is at stake. Hes in newark, New Jersey. Neil, have Breaking News for you sources not telling me, Fox Business Network thAt The international Longshoremans Association has just rejected the leaders offer from the shippers and has not made a counter offer. That makes it a virtual certainty thAt They were better struck tonight at midnight. Behind me see the frantic pace that has been carried out here near the courts around the Country Today frankly, as the shippers tried to get the containers off the ports because if theyre there, when the strike happens, they might be there for a long time. Weve got pictures of the line of trucks trying to get into the port to get these containers out. Want to give a quick word to Thomas Milic amber who is the vp of imc logistics. Was going to happen . Took the ahead. Were anxious for both parties to come together for a resolution to this and keep things moving, you know . Neil, the u. S. Commerce u. S. Chamber of commerce i should say sending a letter to president biden today, it would be unconscionable to Alloy Contract Dispute to inflict such a shock to our economy provide for both parties to negotiation to reach a deal s the Labor Law the president could invoke to bring the parties together and stop a strike, doesnt look like thats going to happen, neil, and so i leave you with a picture of whats going on now but what might be going on for much longer. Sir . Neil all right, jeff, thank you for that. Delayed goods, cancel goodness means more expensive reserves i read that with the chicago federal Reserve President earlier. Take a look. This seems like it fits into my Old Chicago model, are always tell you, neil, there is no bad weather, theres only bad clothing. And things happen that we are going to have to take into account, deal with by having affect the conditions. Weve gone through in the last year or two a big strike in the auto industry. Weve gone through the Port Collision with the bridge that affected shipping. We went through, in the pandemic as you know, major problems with shipping and the Supply Chain to Mix And Anything that is a negative Supply Shock in our language thats going to raise the cost of Doing Business or lead to shortages is something were just going to have to deal with and the impacts are never good. Neil yeah. I guess when it comes to a strike, once one goes on it could be leased weeks long and do your fears, it could also raise prices and i can get in the wake of this recovery that you said showed a golden past, a little are you worried about that recovery now . Yeah, neil, the central Banks Job is to be worried about everything. And there shouldnt be anything that you can come up with that we havent at least thought of lots as possible, complication for our plan. That said, we set Interest Rates very high more than a year before and held it there. And now weve started reducing the rate because conditions have gotten more back to normal. If you look At The new inflation numbers, the coming in relatively pretty close to target. And if you look At The Unemployment Rates and the Job Market, weve gotten back to a state steadystate cannabis sustainable level thats close to what we think of as full employment and if you think of in my mind, i think of it a little bit like the back tab, you know, you want the water to be the right temperature. If its too hot you have to add Cold Water. But wants the best is the temperature you want it, youve got to reduce the amount of Cold Water you are adding. And so thats why as i looked out over this next year, Interest Rates coming down is going to be the order of the day because you want the rates to be normal just like the other conditions getting back to normal. Neil yeah. I just wonder that coldwater, do you need, you know, a Quarter Point of that or do you need a Half Point of that sort of deal with the next it depends whAt The conditions are, you know, and the more youre seeing disruptions im still pretty hopeful that if you see a lot of the evidence unjust Gdp Growth and how fast the economy is growing, you see some of the private Sector Forecast and the atlanta feds, ddp now, upping their estimates of whAt This quarters Gdp Growth is going to be. But there are some cautionary indicators on the Job Market side and just The Way Monetary Policy Works as you know, you cant refer to happen before you start tried to get yourself in the position to react. Because theres large in both i understand that but that sounds like a quarterpoint cut. If you have your brothers now it would be a quarterpoint. I would say the most important thing is not for one meeting is that one cut or two cuts At That meeting. The most important thing is this is a process over a year or more that we are trying to get the rates down to normal to keep conditions At This at least decent dual Mandate Situation that Inflation And Unemployment are around the target. So its got to come down a lot more than 25 Basis Points over the next 12 months. Is going to be a lot of if you look At The statement of economic projections, you see is pretty widely viewed as going to be appropriate by almost everybody. Neil so what hes saying there about the federal Reserve And Interest rates will continue coming down, moms along The Way including the port strike, on a result of this with the Schmidt Fox News decision Best Director and arnie, Lo And Behold we have these rights was initialed about tomorrow, this issue a potential strike and its jarring the fact is going to come up. It will definitely come up come up. I think it will be an excellent tool or excellent opportunity for j. D. Vance to attack Tim Walz for the bidenharris Administrations Management of the economy. The question is, how does walz respond to it . How does walz bring it back to the issues that walz wants to talk about in the debate . Neil reaching out to Union Workers as well in light of the teamsters deciding not to back either candidate. The Worker Bees do like Donald Trump. A lot of the heads like the history unions to really like the democrats. Where do you see this sorting out in a Vp Debate . That is going to be the question. J. D. Vance is an excellent debater. He said enormous experience from the Ohio Senate race. He has done a great job every Sunday Ma practices for this debate every sunday. On almost every one of the Network Talk shows talking about boosting the trumpvance ticket. Tim and plus that, hes an educated lawyer. He is no slouch. My prediction for sure is that if you read the transcripts of the debate tomorrow, you are going to think j. D. Vance wins. Who wins the television show, i dont know. While vance is very articulate, Tim Walz has proven to have a very folksy manner. I watched some of the debates hes had running for the governorship of minnesota. Hes pretty good. If you think about the charismatic leaders of American Politics recently, the most charismatic guys are Donald Trump and barack obama. Neil likability matters. I did want to get in this motion of we dont pay as much to debates as we should. That was a memorable one. Sarah palin and her past with joe biden. Ddo the effect of the race . Does a Vice President ial debate during the president Ial Ele Election . I would argue that we have had six president ial elections this century. I would argue thAt The Vp Debate was almost defining moment. In 2,001 the former Defense Secretary basically beat Joe Lieberman incredibly effectively. The entire frame of the pollings after that change into bushs favor. Neil you think this could move the needle potentially when the needle is right in the middle. Absolutely particularly because they are both going after the other person strength. Walz is there to attack or get more support in rural america which is trumps strength. J. D. Vance as to get one of trumps weaknesses were boost one of trumps weaknesses which is the sort of more moderate republican voters. El
