Welcome to the journal editorial report. Tuesday the final debate of the president ial campaign, a faceoff of the running mates, tim Walz And Jd vance. They were busy selling their Tickets Message to Battleground State voters. Fox News Paul has Tim Walz with Plus 3 Favorability Rating and j. D. Vance with Minus 12 favorably. Usually Vice President of the beta dont move the needle in the polls that much, but this may be the last matchup between the two campaigns. Vice president harris accepted an invitation to debate Donald Trump next Month But Trump said he would not debate her again. Lets bring in our panel, Kyle Peterson, Dan Heninger and columnist kim strawser will. Who is the better Vp Choice from a political Election Campaign Standpoint . Probably j. D. Vance has been. He has been articulate, talked to The Press constantly, he will stand and take tough questions, he answers them and has been pretty articulate. Tim Walz Hasnt had much presence to tell you the truth. The focus has been on Kamala Harris. She has taken the lead and Tim Walz has faded is the background, but he will be front and center in that debate next week and i personally think what we are going to see is a repeat of the first president ial debate from the democratic side which is to say Tim Walz is going to attack j. D. Vance frontally. Hes going to attack him about springfield and the haitians and the and the women comment, hes going to talk a lot about abortion, hes not going to talk very much about policy because they are trying to move towards the center but Tim Walz like Kamala Harris has a Leftwing Background and it has become difficult for them to square those extremes and j. D. Vance has to respond to that. He has done a lot of that in the interview. Paul what about the j. D. Vance Favorability Rating, hes done some things that republican women is a weak spot of the Trump Campaign. Is that turned out to backfire on trump . It has somewhat and that is where i disagree with dan. I grant that he has faded into the background but that is what the Vice President s job is supposed to do is not distract from the candidate to shine a light on the candidate and comments were doubling down. Both candidates missed opportunities in their Vice President ial picks, trump could have picked somebody who would balance him out. And on the same token Kamala Harris could have picked someone who had more Rust Belt Appeal with less Progressive Record than Tim Walz because that is where i expect j. D. Vance to go, the massive spending in minnesota, Kamala Harris could have picked someone like Josh Schapiro with a more moderate record. Paul he really understands middle america, the Football Team on the stage, common person in congress but turns out hes a very hard progressive on policy and i wonder, was it a mistake . May be historic mistake not to pick Josh Schapiro to help her in pennsylvania . Absolutely. Increasingly the Battleground States, all Roads Lead through pennsylvania. If she doesnt win that state her chances of winning the presidency are reduced to practically nothing. She would have had him as an asset, schapiro. Hes popular in pennsylvania. He would have appealed to voters in other midwestern states. Instead, for a woman, San Francisco liberal, thats the knock on her, she has a Wing Command now who is every bit as progressive as she is, might have thought it helped with the base, but the base was coming in her direction anyway and the base is not necessarily going to decide this election in pennsylvania. John paul it would be a change from past elections, only one president ial debate with the current candidate. He debated Joe Biden earlier. Should he debate again . Trump . I am doubtful about that. He probably should. He has to make clear to these undecided voters what Kamala Harriss politics consists of. He didnt do a good job of that in the first debate although he says it was the best debate he ever had. I dont think it will be better next Week And Trump on the Campaign Trail to make the point about Kamala Harris. Paul i wouldnt focus on Tim Walz. Opening of that can. Still had, Vice President Kamala Harris gives big answers about her economic policy, the first 1on1 national television interview. When does the harris say Nothing Campaign catch up with her . Balanced nutrition for strength and energy. Yay Woo Hoo ensure, with 27 vitamins and minerals, nutrients for immune health. And ensure complete with 30 grams of protein. husband we just want to have enough money for retirement. Wife And Travel to visit our grandchildren. Fisher Investments i understand. Thats why at Fisher Investments we start by getting to know each other. So i can learn about your family, lifestyle, goals and needs, allowing us to tailor your portfolio. wife what about commissionbased products . Fisher Investments we dont sell those. Were a fiduciary, obligated to act in your best interest. husband so how do your Management Fees work . Fisher Investments we have a transparent fee, structured so we do better when you do better. At Fisher Investments, were clearly different. I have pledged that building a stronger middleclass will be of the defining goal of my presidency. Some of the work is going to be through what we do in terms of giving benefits and assistance to local governments around Transit Dollars and looking holistically at the connection between that and housing. Looking holistically about the incentives that can be created for local and state governments to engage in planning in a holistic manner. I understand the questions of making ends meet. I grew up in a middleclass family. And i will always put the Middle Class and Working Families first. I know where i came from. I come from the Middle Class and i have never forgot where i come from. And i never will. Paul that is how Kamala Harris is selling her economic plan. A vague plan that focuses on a lot of federal intervention, longwinded answers from The Press and identifying herself with the Middle Class. Will this lack of Substance Catch up to her before Election Day . Former Clinton Advisor doug schoen. When you talk to undecided voters, their biggest doubt about Kamala Harris seems to be not really sure what she stands for, what she really believes. Is that her biggest vulnerability . Doug it is one of her big vulnerabilities. The other is shes too far to the left, and responsible for the biden economic challenges which is why shes talked about a new way forward and the metal class, that really not on the far left. Paul what strikes me as if you look at the substance of it it is really pretty much bidenomics. If it is all the same some of them a little more, some of them may be a little less. Than there is this rhetoric, i am a capitalist, im a pragmatist. I understand the limits to government. Is that trying to address that vulnerability precisely . From the Point Of View of practical politics which is what ive done for a lot of years they are doing a good smart campaign. You are right. The substance is not there but shes calling herself a capitalist, even though the tax plan, shes gotten away with it largely because Trump Hasnt had an alternative plan of his own. Paul closing the gap on the Advantage Trump has on the economy given the fact, showed that a big vulnerability for the democrats. Can she continue with this . And this is where it is going, thats not capitalism. Thats the weakness of the Trump Campaign and affiliated super pacs. They havent offered an alternative view. Were i advising trump i would tell him to debate again and make precisely those points. Paul he didnt have a specific plan. I will do deregulation, does he have to do more . He needs to be a little more specific. I would do a speech on the economy and i would engage in a back and forth with her, basically tired of bidenomics and the failures of the last four years. Paul what about the Tariff Debate . She says it is a tax increase, trump says im saving the Middle Class. Our tariffs a political winner . Probably a political winner and economic loser. And they create international dislocation. In the shortterm they are a winner but they have to be part of a broader view which as i said paul is that because they appeal to the sector of the electorate . Precisely. As you were saying in your introduction she is saying im a middleclass girl as a way of saying even though trump stands for and has policies for middleclass and working people i understand. Paul harris is pushing the Abortion Issue and the polls say it is, and do you think trump has done enough to neutralize his disadvantage on that. He said so many different things at different times. Not as effective as he might have been on abortion. On suburban democratic women who may not like Kamala Harris, they say the issue of Reproductive Rights Cuts strongly for the democratic nominee. In past elections it has worked for the democrats and they believe with some evidence it can work again. Paul what are the undecideds waiting for . They decide at the last minute they typically have less, not more information, typically to be more economically oriented voters on reproductive rights. Paul that supports the importance of trump thanks so much, appreciate it. The parties think they have a right came plan in the fight for control of the senate. As democrats push blowing up the filibuster if they maintain their majority. Our panel weighs in on those races next. Why . For a comprehensive, quality Eye Exam ill go good call get two pairs and an Eye Exam for 79. 95 at americas best. Ryan t. Writes, moving is stressful. Can you help me take one thing off of my to do list . ugh, movings the worst. With xfinity, you can transfer your internet in just a few taps. Just a few easy moves. Did somebody say easy moves . Oh no. No, i was talking about moving your internet. This will move the internet. Ooh, ooh. Lets keep it professional. Professional dancers ok stay connected during your move with the best in home wifi. Easily transfer your services in the xfinity app. Bring on the good stuff. Paul leaders from both parties think they have the path to the majority. Republicans have focused on knocking out democrats in Red States like John Tester being defeated in Montana And Sherrod brown being defeated in ohio. Democrats are making their first multimillion Dollar Ad bys in texas to support call in allread against Ted Cruz and Help Debbie Powell against senator rick scott. This as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer saying they want to eliminate the filibuster for reproductive rights. We are back with Dan Heninger, Kyle Peterson and kim strassel. What do you make of harris coming out and saying lets get rid of the Senate Filibuster Rule to pass something so you only have to do it with 51 . She didnt have to say that. No, but it is a mistake. Paul a political mistake . It raises the stakes for many voters who might like John Tester personally but they think what one party could do for 50 votes. A senate without a filibuster the lets democrats do what they want with 50 votes is the senate that lets republicans do what they want with 50 votes. That is the deeper mistake, shes imagining Democrats Will Codify Roe Versus Wade and so forth but republicans as soon as they take majority control, national right to work, national abortion restrictions. Paul its not just Kamala Harris. Chuck schumer wants to break the filibuster not just for Abortion But Voting rights imposed on national Voting Law and 50 states. Sheldon whitehouse wants to do it for the Supreme Court. Ron wyden said i like a Supreme Court with 14 justices. A lot of listeners may think this is a lot of talk, its not going to happen, they will never break that rule, but what do you think . If they get 51 senate votes, the white house, and the house, will they break the filibuster . In a nano second and they Wont Stop at abortion rights and they Wont Stop at Supreme Court ethics and Wont Stop at election laws. This would be an open gate for democrats to pass a law that they can confiscate your firearms, get rid of private insurance and create medicare for all. Any wishlist they want, there would be no bar against it. One other thing people should be aware of. The Ron Wyden bill not only would create 14 justices on the court. It would create new hurdles, make it harder for the Supreme Court to overturn congress. Not only would they put the folks they want on the court, but then say this sweeping agenda we will put through we will make sure the Court Cant Pushback on it either. This is about Power And Agenda and Wont Stop with one bill. Threats to democracy. Paul right. And they see montana slipping away, the 51st vote, take out Ted Cruz and red scott, scott always has a close race and Ted Cruz only one by 3 points in the race. Is this a Pipe Dream or is it real . It is a possibility. A bit of a Pipe Dream. In recent elections, people dont split tickets anymore which makes the president ial race, if trump wins a state, more than likely a republican candidate will win the State And Win ohio. One of the interesting ones is arizona where Congressman Ruben Guiill guiillago is ahead but recently the past couple days suffolk University Usa Today poll put trump up by 6 points in arizona and he takes arizona likely to pull carry like a longer with him. Ohio, Sherrod Brown, tighter than a drum, people accuse Sherrod Brown of being an Absentee Senator and marino as an articulate businessman. We will be up late at night. Paul michigan, wisconsin, pennsylvania, republicans have a chance to pick up other than ohio. Im doubtful of that but given the liabilities carry lake has, what about those upper tier states . I agree with dan. There is less than there used to be. A lot of it depends how trump on the top of the ticket can perform in those states. Just to take pennsylvania as an Example Trump is running ahead of Dave Mccormick. And western areas of the state, rural areas of the state minus pittsburgh, Dave Mccormick is running out of trump in suburban areas around philadelphia so the tricky thing is to figure out how to make that balance out, to ensure that hes running close enough in the rural areas, picking up a few extra votes in suburbs and trying to stay as close to the top of the ticket as he can. It will be close. Paul Kamala Harris makes her first visit to the southern border in three years as we are hearing new warnings about venezuelan gangs causing a violent Turf War in major american cities. Hi. 1,2,3,4. hina ichi, ni, san, shi. 1,2,3,4. akari ichi, ni, san, shi. 1,2,3,4. others ichi, ni, san, 1,2,3,4 others ichi, ni, san, shi. 1,2,3,4. you were made to chase your passions. We were made to put them in a package. What do people want more of . More oh yeah more laughs. More hang outs. More mmmmm, so good yeah, give us more of all of that little stuff that makes life so great. But if youre older or or have certain health conditions, you also have more risk from flu, covid19 and rsv. But vaccines help keep you from getting really sick. And that, is huge. Paul Vice President harris went to the southern border friday, her first visit to the area since her El Paso Texas Visiting June of 2021 a few months after she was tasked by President Biden to look at the root causes of migration from central america. There is new warnings about venezuelan gangs, a strong foothold in multiple states across the united states. In chicago a former Gang Member who runs a Street Patrol and Violence Prevention Program says his city may go up in flames because of tension between local gangs. Lets bring in mariana stazio. Kim, what do you make of the trip by the Vice President to the border . One of her biggest weaknesses, Border Security but she is steering into the window. She has to. Go back to that trump harris debate, trump was ridiculed for talking about the haitian community, ohio, cats, dogs, if you are a democrat you made fun of them, another falsehood by Donald Trump. For many americans it revived this issue of the enormous stress of being put on local cities because of the flood of migrants that have Come In, the ensuing crime that has come from that. It was a top issue but putting new pressure on harris. She skated out of this so far by saying Donald Trump is a problem, if he had simply voted for this bill that we were considering in congress this would all be over but the reality is americans understand this administration had four years and let this many people in, they own this, and they need to do damage control. Paul her argument is the border is getting better, we have control over it, trump didnt do much when he was president and by the way he killed that Senate Compromise that would have made all the difference. I guess i will be tough. Can you believe it . A lot of the damage is done. The cleanup is in this country, not the corner. She might do something about the border. I doubt it. There is a lot of damage done in this country. You mention in nicaragua, a group of organized criminals who started in venezuela in 2014. They took over the prison. They specialize in extortion and human smuggling. Those are the areas they are good at and theres evidence they have been working with the government. For a long time we talked about how the venezuelan government is using migration as a weapon against the united states and this development of genghis, Organized Crime in the us is an example of how that has been effectively. Prison gangs are a long story but this is one of the biggest Organized Crimes. For it to get into the united states and go to the Sanctuary Cities and get control, that is something very serious the Mado Government in venezuela has been emptying the prisons with gangs and using the slots that it has that came through the Apps Program the administration set up. Is it that kind of flow . People were flying from venezuela into mexico with airline tickets, and these genghis got into these agencies. They bring people in mexico, wrote about this in a couple years ago. They had Contact Numbers for Human Smugglers that would bring them to the border and help them get across. I dont know if they were using the apps or if they were getting in other ways. The fact of the matter is a lot of these people have crossed, gone to Sanctuary Cities and used the kind of lawlessness, lack of Intelligence And Lack of Police Work to basically put a foothold in these big cities. They went out to colorado and were in big cities but they were going into the suburbs as they did in aurora. Paul to be credible on this, does the Vice President need to say explicitly i think the administration, i will be different. She should say that. No chance whatsoever, Kamala Harris like that. It is not in her personality. She doesnt take strong leadership positions. Weve seen that in this campaign. This is the biggest 9 a can 9 it can make issue among voters, and the migrants. Her answer to this is trump somehow thwarted this bill in the senate. I dont think siding of failed Building Congress which is about process is that big a political winner. This went on for three years, the initial migrants were from central america, economic migrants. The longer the Border State open, the longer it allowed people to Come In and create the problems in the cities we have now. Paul still ahead. Is real ramps up airstrikes against hezbollah targets in lebanon while leadership dismisses calls for ceasefire from the united states. We will discuss the expanding war between israel and one of irans largest proxies next. What about africa . Safari . Hot Air Balloon Ride . Swim with elephants . Wait, can we afford a safari . It after Hamas Massacre on October 7th hezbollah began attacks, which forced 60,000 israelis on the northern border to leave their homes. How long will the american government tolerate that . A day, week, a month . I doubt they would tolerate it even for a single day. Israel has been tolerating this intolerable situation for a year. Ive come here to say enough is enough. Paul thats how Benjamin Netanyahu defended his escalation of attacks in lebanon on friday. Is Reals Military has been preparing for a possible Ground Attack focusing on hezbollah targets. President biden joined france and 10 other countries calling for an immediate ceasefire which Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed. Lets bring in mark dugowitz. Welcome back. Good to see you. This offensive against hezbollah in the North And Lebanon has been rumored for some time. Why is israel moving now . For the past year, hezbollah starting October 8th started firing rockets, missiles and drones israel. 9,000 projectile, 60,000 israelis had to leave their homes in the north and the israelis said enough is enough and preparing for war against iran backed hezbollah for a number of years and they are striking at hezbollahs senior leadership, taking out there drones, rockets, missiles and forcing hezbollah from the border because hezbollah was planning another October 7th attack from the north to Massacre Israelis there as well. John does this mean the israelis are confident hamas and gaza is substantially under control . The israelis feel confident that they have degraded the capability of hamas. Obviously theres much more to do and Mopping Up Operations will be a problem that will persist for months and years but in terms of destroying their capability to do what they said which is another October 7th the idf feels they accomplish that objective. Paul a lot of people think that israel does need to do a Ground Offensive at least into Southern Lebanon to achieve its War Aim to have its 60,000 citizens who have been displaced from the north of Israel Return to. Do you agree with that . A Ground Offensive is essential . Not sure. Its going to be a Ground Offensive. The israelis learn the lesson of 2,006 and hezbollah has been preparing for an israeli Ground Offensive for the past 18 years. There would be fighting on advantageous terms and hezbollah would use that to inflict severe casualties. And and they are losing. Thats different from what they do in 2006, they take out their capabilities, and a strike on central headquarters, and they took out has s military leadership. That is what they continue doing. Paul my sources are saying Benjamin Netanyahu orange in theory objecting to a ceasefire offer, they need to have more time to degrade the leadership of iranian proxy. Is that what you are hearing too . The israelis can take advantage of the opportunity as long as Hezbollah And Iran dont agree to the ceasefire, they are on offense and should continue to stay on offense and will stay on offense to degrade those capabilities and make it offense. Paul one of the things i found puzzling in the proposal is it let mentioned lebanon, the lebanese government in beirut didnt mention hezbollah or iran. It can the lebanese government actually control what the militia does or not . There is no lebanese government, theres no lebanese leader. There is no functioning lebanese state. Lebanon is iran. Iran is lebanon. Hezbollah controls everything. Hezbollah takes orders from tehran. The notion the united states will get an agreement between Lebanon And Israel is a fiction. Thats wyatts important the israelis continue to inflict severe damage against the terrorist Organization And Terror army that controls lebanon and that is hezbollah. Paul the critics of his Relapse Campaign say its dangerous for israel, Tom Friedman of the New York Times says because this, they dont have an answer for what happens next, it will risk american support, European Support and remove any chance of a deal between Israel And Saudi arabia which has been possible. What is your response to that criticism . Tom lives in potomac, maryland, not tel aviv, israel. We can talk about these various plans and theories. At the end of the day the israelis live in a tough neighborhood in the Middle East, not the midwest. They need to deal with the neighborhood the way it is and the reality the way it is and they are surrounded on seven fronts by iran at its terror backed Proxy Armies and they need to inflict severe damage not only to degrade the risk of another October 7th and protect their citizens but send a message to the Middle East that the israelis are back after that Intelligence Failure of October 7th and the israelis are capable of inflicting severe damage against their enemies. That earns them a tremendous amount of respect in places like saudi arabia, the uae, bahrain and the Middle East, respect from potential allies and fear from current enemies. Paul thank you. Appreciate your coming in. When we come back, President Biden uses the United Nations General Assembly to tout his diplomacy around the world. What kind of a world is biden leaving his successor . We will talk about it with our panel next. Thanks for swingin by, carl. No problem. So, what are all of those for . Ah, this one lets me adjust the bass. Add more guitar. Maybe some drums. Paul the remarkable sweep of history, america moving forward, new challenges, threats and opportunities. I was determined to rebuild my Countrys Alliance and partnerships, not previously seen. We did just that. Paul President Biden laid out his foreign Policy Legacy but what kind of world is he leaving to his successor . Mary, what is the Biden Legacy on Foreign Policy . He says the center held, democracies are winning get. I was watching the Speech And Thinking of Foreign Policy is what he is good at, he think that his forte, we are all in trouble. We had a tough four years. It is largely because his message is we will do anything to avoid escalation. Thats the repeated message to iran to venezuela, we dont want to confront the president of mexico on violations of the Trade Agreement or immigration front. Everything was find a way to make shortterm peace, appeasement. That is costing us a lot. Paul it has encouraged adversaries to say we can get away with more. Reagan said trust but verify and he made deals with actors like Iran And Mexico and venezuela without verifying, just trusting what they said, we are going to do xyz, even signing a piece of paper, he decided that was enough to let up on any pressure the us would put on and that ended up costing a lot. The other thing is he was always telling Israel And Ukraine they didnt do anything on the offensive, they could only play defense. Thats a terrible way. Paul you have china, the agreement with australia and britain, the deal with japan, more integration, that seems to be a good thing. Does he get any points therefore helping in the effort to contain china . He gets points for the august agreement. Those are important allies, japan, australia but the reality is china is threatening places like the philippines, pushing hard against the waters around japan. What you need to stop that is deterrence. The problem is thats not likely to happen under President Biden and not likely to happen with, harris. This started when biden insisted on pulling out of afghanistan against the advice of his military advisors. Vladimir britain saw that, hamas attacked israel, iran, because biden allowed Oil Revenue to flow back to iran, sending missiles to russia, hezbollah, the world is a troubled place. If we are going to have deterrence, the united states, as in the pacific has to spend more money to build military weapons like submarines. President bidens military budgets are the real net cut over the beard of his presidency and there is no possibility it will get better under a democratic presidency under Kamala Harris. Paul the pivot to the next four years is my question to you. Are we seeing in either of those candidates a recognition on the part of Kamala Harris that she would do something differently like increased Defense Spending or Donald Trump, that the world is a lot more dangerous place than it was when i left office in here is what i would do to make it less dangerous . Kim on harris, the scariest aspect of what we dont know about her, a lot of talk about how shes been too quiet on her actual plans, hiding from The Press, but this question, judgment as a president where you have to make splitsecond decisions sometimes the do involve lives, that is a big one. We dont know what her views are, no indication she would necessarily govern in a way thats different from President Biden, we dont know her basic capabilities either. Donald trump, weve seen what he did in office and the reality is it is a big hit and miss. He has a viewpoint that its about a stronger america, he said he wants to rebuild the military. At the same time, i think hes been too retreating from a Loud Isolationist wing in the republican party, small, but there. That caused him to make some mistakes. Not be forceful enough on issues like standing by ukraine and winning the conflict the way sends a message to russia. Part of it will be who is around him if he is president. If his advisers have a lot of influence. Paul will he will see if there is a Mike Pompeo or Tom Cotton at the defense department. We have to take one more break.
