We are learning that the symptoms you feel dont necessarily correlate to the damage you are doing to your brain. And so just from my own experience, there were lots of times on the Football Field where we saw double briefly, the things that we call a classic Dating Or Bell ringer. We dont count those, so we dont know the lowest threshold for injuring our brain, but what we can promise you is that you cannot feel your brain getting injured. You have billions of neurons, trillions of connections. The idea that you can feel what neuron dies is preposterous. So all these hits to the head contribute to these longterm symptoms. John i remember once when i was in High School i whacked the back of my head really hard in my vision from the midrange up was perfect, and from the midrange down it was like i was looking through water. I think that was probably obviously a concussion. These new helmet covers, these guardian covers, dr. Daneshvar, that a lot of players are wearing now during practice, not necessarily on the gridiron during a game, do you think they will lower the incidence of concussion . As the doctor alluded to, these total hits to the head, they put you at risk of having problems with Thinking And Memory and problems like cte, but also concussion. The guardian caps, the evidence right now looks like they might decrease the force of the hit to the head by about 10 . That certainly might take you from a threshold where you might have gotten a concussion and bring it down below to a lower threshold where youre not going to get a concussion. But the best way to eliminate the likelihood you get the concussion is to eliminate the hit altogether. So i think that is one of the things we are advocating for. We know that over twothirds of all concussions occur in practices. We know that there are parts of the game like kickoff that can be refined to reduce the hits to the head or the hit altogether. If we can remove unnecessary hits in the game, we are going to make athletes better from a Cte Perspective and a concussion perspective, as well.
