Steve before lawrence took off yesterday for washington, pennsylvania, we had a conversation on the couch and suggested, we had a convo, it was like, dont be surprised if tomorrow, that is today, we talk about how she did better than a lot of people thought she would and Debate Camp in pittsburgh for five days worked out. There is a massive Gaping Hole on the Second Tower, about 15 stories from the roof, it is unbelievable to look at. Steve it looks like something out of a movie, huge hole in the side of Tower Number one. We have a number of floors on fire, looks like the plane was aiming toward the building. Deploy all units. Ing it could be a terror attack. Roll every available ambulance you got into position. [screaming] you can see Emergency Vehicles heading toward the scene, tons of people in the st street. There are papers and things spilling out. I cant see what crashed, i see this massive, Gaping Hole. We have people on West Street here. Numerous people trapped, floor 106. Division one, be advised, we have jumpers from the World Trade Center. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. The plane obviously went in on one side and came out the other. There is debris broke through one part. Exactly. It affects perhaps 10 floors of the World Trade Center building. It is over 100 stories. This is near the financial district on the tip Of Manhattan, there are so many people at this hour who are in that neighborhood. They have all the police and Fire Department and Emergency Technicians are headed to thatirria. This is horrible. All we can do is stare aghast at these pictures. You are looking at twin tower of the World Trade Center in manhattan coming to you live. Debris reigning down from 110 floors up. This is a clear blue Sky Day in m manhattan. If this was an accident, it would be a needle in a Haystack Kind of accident. Wendell goler is traveling with the president. We have a second plane into the other tower at the trade center. Fire. A second plane into the World Trade Center. This has to be deliberate, folks, we just saw on live television as a second plane flew into the Second Tower of the World Trade Center. Now given what has been going on around the world, some of the key suspects come to mind, osama bin laden. Eric shawn is with us. I apologize for being out of breath. I was walking and i heard a Jet Flying unusually low over fifth avenue. It made a right toward the building. Chilling, horrible scene we just saw i think is an attack, not at World Trade Center, the heart of our nation, john. It is a tragedy, abhorrent and disgusting. It takes a lot of Training And Expertise to fly an aircraft, these are not it is cessna and pipers, what was going on in the cockpoit. Bring in David Lee Miller. Im a few blocks from the World Trade Center, only way to get near the building is on foot. The scene is a horrific one. You have people screaming out of the areas. Harvey cushner is on the line. It has happened again, another large airliner perhaps hijacked, perhaps part of some w widespread plan apparently slamming into at least the area around the pentagon. That plane seemed to come in at lower altitude, hit it is building lower down and a t tremendous fire ball. The damage to the building came at a point where there is more weight on top of it and the Steel Gerters had a lot of weight to support and im not a structural engineer, im guessing they gave way. The loss of life is enormous. May god help those who are there and the victims and their families and all the souls lost today. Rick leventhal, with our producer, is in lower manhattan. You cant even see the sky there because of soot, ash, crumbled Concrete Reigning down. This is church street, it looks like a snowstorm hit, there is thick ash on the ground, lots of it, pandemonium here. How you doing . Shook up. I went through vietnam and never seen anything like this. Unbelievable. How close were you . In front of the door evacuating people out and we got a lot out and it blew. You could not move, you could not see. Ash and soot and my eyes and mouth were full. We heard the explosion and ran out of new York State supreme court and jumped on our jury bus. Back it up. Here we go again. I dont know what is going on. This second building is collapsing, i believe. Oh, no. Oh. [screaming] we need to collapse. The World Trade Center has clachsed, Building Two has collapse said. Urgent, urgent. Get out, Second Tower. Everybody is running. Here it comes, get in. It is hard to describe, folks, the picture shows what has happened in lower manhattan, we dont have a handle on the devastation. The World Trade Center has collapsed and the Casualty Figure we cannot begin to guess that at this point. United 93, do you have information on that . Yeah, hes down. Hes down . Yes. When did he land . He did not land. Oh, hes down. East of camp david. Authorities at Somerset County Airplane confirm a large Plane Crash 80 Miles Southeast of pittsburgh, you have to assume it is related to these goings on. Freedom itself was attacked this morning by faceless Coward And Freedom will be defends, make no mistake, the united states will hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts. Ainsley Stephen Siller ran with 60 pounds of gear even though his shift had just ended, ultimately giving his life to save others. Steve his brother, frank siller, has spent everyday since ensuring his memory living on. Frank joins us with Pete Hegseth, from lower manhattan. 23 years ago this hour. Frank, i know this is a terrible day in your familys history, and we just watched the big video that showed what led up to first plane hitting the tower and what happened afterward. When we go to commemoration like this, i hear bagpipes and the bagpipes take me back. Well, yes, dave, it does for sure, it is very emotional. At 8 46, the North Tower was hit and i didnt know at that point. I was waiting for stephen to come home from squad one in brooklyn, with my Brother Russ and george, we were going to play golf. My brother, george, came in and said turn on the tv. Soon after i saw the South Tower hit and i start to gather my family at my house, i knew this was something very bad going on. At 9 59, i remember like it was yesterday, my motherinlaw had come to my house, my siblings starting to come over. When the South Tower came down, i turned to my motherinlaw, i said, nancy, i think i just lost my brother, knowing, not knowing how he got there, not knowing he ran through a tunnel with Fire Gear to get there. I knew he would get there, i knew my brother. And so many others that paid the ultimate sacrifice that day and that is why our foundation will always pay respect to him and to all those that made the ultimate sacrifice and our first responsibility. America is watching today, i live it everyday and a lot of People Inure On Foundation live it everyday, those who give their lives and have served us overseas, but im glad america will stop today and not forget the sacrifice that was made 23 years ago. Ainsley pete, i know you fought for our country and lost friends who fought for our country, take us back to that day for you and stories you heard when you were fighting. Pete i was like many americans, naive to the threat that loomed across the globe and lurking in our own country when the hijackers laid their plans. I was horrified by what i saw, like everybody else, i remember exactly where i was, i was a sophomore in college, it was amazing to reads the accounts and stories of men like Stephen Siller and so many others who ran up burning corridors with smokefilled rooms and are floos pulling people down, people jumping from buildings, almost too much to calculate and understand in that moment. Then i watched generation of guys and gals, many of which knew nobody from manhattan or staten island, did not know the sillers, but they were fellow americans who said, i will assign up, i will enlist and go on behalf of this nation because our country was attacked. First people that respond, Todd Beamer and folks on flight 93, first Counter Assault against Radical Islamic Terrorism on 9 11. Im heartened today when i think back on 20 years of war, even the way it was horrifically handled. This generation of men who went overseas willing to give their lives to get retribution to innocents and first responders. We can set aside politics and what worked and what didnt work and what didnt go right, we live in a nation on that can muster young warriors to try to say never again will this happen and i pray that he woo do never forget. I fear all the work frank does is central to making sure we dont forget. I see Kids Walking to School Today in manhattan and i want to make sure they are being taught first hand what a great country we live in and what threats seek to do us harm and need to raise a generation willing to stand up to emthis. Brian frank, how have you seen this event over first 23 years, first it was rubbled Anden Clooed Up and designs and memorial to be assembled. Now look back in 23 years, how we mark ceremonies these years and it got back on its feet. Yeah, it is remarkable. Right behind us is freedom tower, we have a climb every year and go up the tower, 102 stories, why do we do it . To make sure we dont forget and think about the stories that happened in the stairwells on 9 11 and we want to tell the stories. Captain Billy Burk told his company, go ahead, ill catch up with you later and he stayed behind with somebody that could not make it down, knowing South Towers collapsed and knowing he was going to give up his life. Id like to say so many men, tunnel to Towers Foundation and our commitment to our first responders and veterans and veterans because we be went to war what happened on 9 11 Andun Ittel to towers promises to take care of every catastrophic injured Service Member and Gold Star Family that lost their loved one that left behind a young kid and give them a mortgage free home. We did 20 mortgage free homes today. Good Will Triumph over evil. How is america doing . A lot of people care. People i come in contact with care. The reason your brother and other firemen were going into that building, Running Upstairs was fact in 1993, The First Time World Trade Center was attacked, there was a bomb downstairs, the towers did not collapse and the Fire Department said stay at your desk, somebody will come rescue you and that is why what happened 23 years ago was so different than anything we had ever seen. It wasnt hit The First Time by a plane full of fuel for sure. To think of Fire Line and those stuck above Fireline And Choice they had on that day. I hate to say it, people have to realize, they had a choice to burn or jump. Yet the Fire Department got up to 78th Floor, Chief Palmer and his Band Of Brothers made it to the 78th Floor to try to save others. What went on that day, it was a sad day in america, it was a beautiful day and all the acts of heroism and acts that happened that day. Yeah, we did not know the towers were going to come down. After the first tower came down, they knew the second was going to come down. They did may day, the firefighters still stayed inside, there were people and they were saving the people inside and i cant believe the courage to do something like that, knowing you are probably going to die. I know firefighters were hugging Each Other before they went into the building and they were not saying, ill see you later or this weekend. They were saying goodbye, they knew it was a strong possibility they were not going to survive the day. Think about that and Greatness And Goodness of america. Thank you for the sacrifice you made. I know in military context, when you are on a mission, you have thoughts of, were going on a mission, will we make it back and it is another thing when 45 know minutes earlier or 90 minutes earlier was a regular day in manhattan. The guys are throwing on gear and going upstairs, i remain today in awe of courage. We ought remain in awe of firefighters and Police Officers who put those uniforms on, first line of defense for us, shame on us, first instinct is to condemn or criticize and they give us Quality Of Life and show up in those moments when No One else will show up. Brian you see former President Trump and soon to be former president biden, Vice President harris and j. D. Vance all basically within feet of Each Other on 9 11 and keep in mind, 28 lost their lives this year, 370 lost their lives, more than lost their lives that day because of carcinogens in the air. You are right, more first responders have died from 9 11 illnesses because they were on the Pile Digging through the Root And Rubble looking for their lost brothers and sisters and looking for civilians that died. Of 20 mortgages paid off today, seven of them died of 9 11 illnesses. We dont forget about them either. They are forgotten ones, we all talk about 2977. There have been thousands that have died ainsley for all of us that were alive through this we remember where we were that day. You gentlemen were handling the coverage that morning when it was happening. There are some kids trying to get to school and streets were blocked off and having to take detours and you look at these individuals that are reading the names now and they are so young.
