York. We are following Breaking News out of the middle east, where the family of Israeli American Hostage Hersh Goldbergpolin was confirmed. He has been killed in the gaza strip. The family issued this statement just hours after the Israeli Army confirmed it had found a quote, number of bodies in gaza. It says, quote, with broken hearts. The Goldbergpolin Family is devastated to announce the Death Of their beloved son and brother, hersh. It went on to say, the family thanks you all for your Love And Support and asked for privacy at this time, there was no immediate comment from the army or details about the other bodies that were found. The White House confirms the idf found six bodies in total in underground tunnels on saturday. Hamas militants took around 250 people during its October 7th Terror Attack on israel. An estimated 104 hostages do remain in their custody. This news comes as Ceasefire And Hostage talks continue between israel and hamas, and thousands of protesters in israel continue to demand prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reach a deal. Joining us now is rich goldberg, once again, Senior Advisor to the foundation for defense of democracies. Rich thanks for coming back on with us. You know, i want to talk about that last line i read there. You know, these protesters in israel, they they want Pm Netanyahu to reach a deal. But is that even possible at this point, when youre dealing with a group like hama . Well, we dont really know. I mean, as far as we understand from all Press Reports and information ive received from people on both sides of the ocean over the last several months, prime Minister Netanyahu has gone along with Everything President biden has asked him to do. At times, certainly under intense u. S. Pressure to get there against his better instincts for israels National Security. But the deals on the table that have been presented and endorsed by the united states have been supported by israel. And every single time hamas has said no. And so the question, of course, is could netanyahu offer them the moon . And they would still say, no, because they think that they are somehow winning against israel. The psychological torment that a night like this takes on a country like israel, while still getting squeezed by the rest of irans terror axis. Obviously, hezbollah there in lebanon. Were seeing the Terror Cells in the West Bank, judea and samaria, with suicide bombers, car bombers, all kinds of attacks being plotted there. The houthis in yemen, and, of course, iran itself, with its missile and drone capability and its nuclear program. So the question of course, before us is we know israel has complicated politics, to say the least. I think israeli domestic politics make american politics oftentimes look rather normal. And so i think we will see convulsion, as weve seen for many months. And years in israel. But as americans, we just lost an American Citizen to a brutal Terrorist Organization. How evil it is that they decided, as were learning tonight, to murder this 23 year old in Cold Blood and the other hostages he was with, rather than allow the idf that was closing in to be able to release to get him back to rescue him, they decided to kill him. Thats thats just pure evil. Of course, we understand this is about a kilometer from where a druze israeli, a muslim israeli, was rescued just a few days prior. And so you sort of wonder if hamas at a at a leadership level, didnt know, but felt like the israelis were closing in on the hostages. Is israel closer than we think they are . That is the other side of the coin here to think about tonight, the israeli security establishment, probably looking over all the intelligence here. Where are the other hostages . How close are they getting . Where is sinwar, the leader of hamas in gaza . Are they closing in on him as well . These are all going to be the questions. If hamas is in its 11th Hour and is still saying no to every ceasefire offer, put forward, waiting for better terms, perhaps in coordination with the rest of the iran terror access, the government has to ask itself what are they going to do . They can put forward more offers, but in The End they need to find sinwar, the leader of hamas. They need to kill this man. And we in the united states should help them do that. And we should also be putting enormous pressure on all the sponsors of hamas to bring down the hammer as much as possible. We should not leave any stone unturned here. If we have pressure we havent brought to bear on iran, on qatar, on egypt, on turkey, on lebanon, all sponsors and enablers of hamas. Weve done something wrong here for the last almost 11 months. That should be our priority. The israeli politics are going to be tumultuous. Were going to watch that on tv. Its going to be hard for us to interpret. As americans understand, they have pretty brutal politics there. Theyre going to be people asking netanyahu to come to the table with better terms for hamas. Theres going to be people saying he shouldnt. We should understand what has happened to us as a country, as americans, a citizen of ours was murdered brutally, and we should bring all of our Power And Influence to bear, to hold hamas and its sponsors accountable. Yeah. And i mean, at what point, though, does netanyahu i mean, as you said, he has gone along and done what the biden administration has wanted him to do so far. But at what point does he stop listening to them . Or does he even have that capability right now . Does he need the u. S. That much . I mean, if youre saying that he could be this close, to these other hostages and taking out some of these people in this hamas terror group, i mean, does he need the biden administration for that . Well, you dont want to have an enemy of the united states, your closest friend and ally. There are a lot of levers the united states can. If you look at whats happening, you say you say that that america is their closest ally, but they are not taking Israels Side 100 . They are in this in limbo in the middle of the road. I obviously agree with that. The policies of the last several months, ive been one of the leading critics of the idea that you would pressure israel for months not to go Into Rafah, where these bodies were found, where these hostages may have been held, where other hostages may be held. Obviously, now anybody who was against that operation was pressuring israel not to go Into Rafah has a lot to answer. For those who said they were studying the maps and concluded that israel should not go Into Rafah, obviously, speaking about our Vice President has a lot to answer for. That said, at this moment, if youre israel, you do still need the weapons that are coming in from the united states, and theres a lot coming in. Finally after months of delay, because they withheld, they are also facing the massive threat from hezbollah on their northern border. They have a big operation now going on against iranian backed cells, hamas cells in the West Bank, as wel. They have missiles and drone threats from elsewhere in the middle east, the houthis in yemen, iraq, syria and of course, the Missile Threat still looming from iran itself. And of course, we have two Carrier Strike groups in the region, the united states deterrence projection, the ability to defend israel from an attack by iran. These are all things that are playing into this. The united nations, the international criminal courts investigations, all of this in a very complicated Decision Making Matrix for the Prime Minister of israel. The Bottom Line is this what is the holdup here . Why is there no Cease Fire . What are the terms were talking about on the table here . That supposedly are the go no go for a deal . It is whether or not israel will maintain some sort of Security Control for the time being over this area between egypt and gaza, where we have now discovered Hundreds Of Tunnels Where Hamas Needs tunnels, reestablished, needs Smuggling Routes reestablished to resupply its fighters, to just come back like a thunderbolt, to take control of gaza so that we go back to October 6th instead of learning the lessons of october seventh. And so i have not met one israeli, those who are Hyper Critical of Bibi Netanyahu, who believes israel should give up control of that area until such time as theyve built a Deep Underground Wall below that border, the way they did on the Gaza Border to prevent new Tunnel Smuggling from being established there and then above ground, some sort of joint operation with the egyptians to ensure they cant allow any smuggling through the through the border crossings with egypt above ground. I have not met one privately who will say that israel should just get out of the philadelphia corridor. And so they know that if israel does that, they go back to October 6th, that there could be another October 7th, that the hundreds of israeli soldiers who have given their lives so far in this war to rid themselves of the hamas threat, their lives would have been lost in vain. And that is also weighing on the Prime Minister of israel, despite what you will see in the coming hours of many israelis, mostly of the left in israel, but others as well, who will be coming out to say to the Prime Minister he needs to concede more to hamas. You know, i couldnt imagine being a loved one of any of these hostages. And just knowing now that these bodies were found under that tunnel. Its horrifying. Like i said, i wouldnt want to put myself in that situation ever, you know, with that being said, theres still over 100 that are left. I mean, i know people are saying that theyre staying positive about this and theyre hopeful, but these people are diabolical. These are not people. These are these are evil beings, and it makes you wonder if were going to bring them home to their families where they belong, or if its going to be another situation to where were bringing a Body Home for a funeral. Yeah. And obviously hamas intended for that sort of psychological anguish to be with us on a night like this. The fact that they decided to murder these hostages before they could be rescued is for us to have this conversation is for people to take to the streets in israel tomorrow. It is to add basically Lemon Juice on the open cut that israel has suffered since October 7th, driving more and more suffering into the heart of the israeli population, hoping to get more concessions. And of course, in the wider iran access, ensuring that this part of irans operational plan stays intact so that gaza remains a threat. The larger threat in lebanon from hezbollah remains. And then all the other threats weve talked about. I cant imagine being any of the Family Members ive met with, many ive talked with many. Its hard. I have a policy mind. I have a strategy mind. Ive served in the White House, in the National Security council. Ive served on capitol hill. I approached certain things from that part of my mind of what i would do in a vacuum, understanding what is at stake here and at a strategic level, what the right choices might be from a policy level. And at the same time, im a father and i, and i just cant imagine what they are going through and what they would want to have happen to see their loved one come home. That is the anguish that is that is the hardship that is going on, that we cant imagine inside israel tonight. Yeah. And its horrible to think about because these people are just they just want their Family Member back, no matter how they have to do it. They dont care. They just want them back. Meanwhile, the politics of the world are happening around it, and that just makes it all that much worse. So your final thoughts on whats happened today in this information . We got . Yeah. Listen i probably one of the most critical people youll find in the entire country of the biden administrations handling of these policies and strategy the last 11 months to, quote unquote, bring them home. Ive advocated for a very different approach. I cant tell you that if anybody had adopted my policy, hersh would be alive tonight. I also, to those out there who are critical of prime Minister Netanyahu, are going to take to the streets and urge him to concede more to hamas. I dont think anybody can tell you that if Bibi Netanyahu offers hamas the moon, that they will take it, that somehow if he had said yes to more concessions a week ago, that hersh or other hostages would still be alive, because to your point, this is an evil Terrorist Organization. And if you are dealing with an evil Terrorist Organization like this, your policies and strategy should be governed accordingly. And that means doing all you can to hunt down and kill their leaders, destroy their infrastructure, and hold every one of their State Sponsors fully accountable. You cant make deals with evil. Im just going to leave it at that. All right, rich, thank you so much for your time. Once again, we appreciate it. And if youre just now tuning in, an American Citizen is among six hostages found dead in gaza. Israeli american Hersh Goldbergpolin was taken hostage on October 7th during those Terror Attacks by hamas. His family did confirm his death. He was just 23 years old. And the idf says when it recovered, those six hostages from the underground tunnels, it was likely that Psoriatic Arthritis Symptoms can be unpredictable. The White House confirms the idf found six bodies in total in underground tunnels on saturday. Hamas militants took around 250 people during its October 7th Terror Attack on israel. An estimated 104 hostages still remain in their custody. This news comes as Ceasefire And Hostage talks continue between israel and hamas. Thousands of protesters in israel continue to demand prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reach a deal. Joining us now is democratic strategist Julian Epstein on the phone. Julian, thanks for sticking around so early this morning. We appreciate it. But, you know, when we were speaking earlier, you were critical of the Bidenharris Administration and how theyve handled this. I want you to elaborate on that for us now. Yes. I think well, thank you for having me again, ashley. I think, we have not really had a very meaningful Foreign Policy as far as i can tell, since October 7th, for the most part, this administration has been allergic to escalation and has had i think, the sort of the false framework that you can negotiate, negotiate a Peace Work with hamas, and find a solution for the palestinians, a two State Solution for the palestinians. I think that is dreaming. Hamas has no interest whatsoever in a two State Solution. Hamas has made it clear numerous times that the palestinian issue is not an issue, that they really so much care about what they are an army of iran and Irans Goal is to destroy is a genocide against israel. They want to wipe israel off the face of the earth. Hamas has said in so many words, as hezbollah has said, with respect to Southern Lebanon, hamas has said that it contemplates the destruction of gaza. It contemplates the Death Of, of palestinians because they love death more than israel loves life. And when the palestinians are killed, you notice there are no there are no Bomb Shelters in gaza because gaza, hamas doesnt really care if palestinians are killed. They use tunnels to shield to so that the civilians can be a shield between them and the israeli counterattacks. After the October 7th massacre. But hamas is not that interested. This is a war that is sponsored by iran, and the only way that we are ever going to get a lasting resolution is if we cut the snake off at the head and until and unless the administration makes clear that israel can exact a preemptive cost on iran if the aggression continues either in gaza, if the aggression continues in Southern Lebanon, the until and unless the administration makes clear that israel has the right to defend itself by taking a Preemptive Strike against iran and irans armies in hezbollah and in gaza, this is not going to come to an end. Every time the administration tells israel to deescalate, it is a signal to iran, and its a signal to hezbollah and hamas that they can escalate on their own terms because they know the they know israel will not have the backing of the west, so its very clear you can look at what happened in, in, in Southern Lebanon last week when hezbollah was going to launch 6000 missiles on israel. Israel went in and took a Preemptive Strike. It didnt have, you know, explicit support from the west, the West Wasnt necessarily and the u. S. Wasnt opposing it. But israel took a very aggressive position, and they took out 6000 missiles. Theres still 150,000 missiles under 200 different villages in Southern Lebanon. And i think if theres any indication that hezbollah is going to conduct open war on another front, that israel has every right to go in and take Preemptive Strikes there. But israel took a Preemptive Strike in Southern Lebanon. Israel took Preemptive Strikes on hamas leaders in the West Bank last week, and they have gone after and very effectively gone after the very racist, ethno nationalist, iranian Army Leadership in, in gaza. And they have decapitated a lot of them. And the aggressive efforts, particularly the efforts that youve seen in the last week in the West Bank and in Southern Lebanon have been very, very effective. And it is frozen. Iran. That should be a signal to all of us that the only way to deal with this problem, ultimately, is to let iran know that if they continue to fund these armies, the cost to them will be preemptive. You know, biden and harris both have released statements. Were still waiting for former President Trump to release his statement. Im sure at some point it will come, but, you know, blinken, he also tweeted out saying the killings of these hostages only further confirms, hamass depravity. It should release all the hostages immediately. We will continue to work with our partners in the region to secure an agreement without delay. That frees the remaining hostages. You know, my biggest fear, obviously, is. And im sure this is the fear of the hostages families. Is that they may not be alive, especially when you see that the idf said that these six that were recovered, these bodies were more than likely killed right before they got there, shot in the back of the head. So they were alive. At what point does Human Rights supersede politic . Well, i think Human Rights is always a foundation of american Foreign Policy, and it should be. None of us want to see any deaths for civilians in gaza. None of us want to see a single palestinian harmed as a result of this sinwar, the leader of the of the Hamas Movement in gaza, has made it clear the Wall Street Journal reported on this, that he contemplates the death. He referenced, what He Saw was the Liberation Struggle in algeria. And he said, you know, palestinians are going to have to die. These are, in his words. So the notion that we are negotiating with hamas over a solution for the palestinians is just wrong. That is not whats going on here. Israel has offered a peaceful two State Solution to hamas in 1948. In 1967, in 1973, in 1990 and 1993, in 2000 and 2008, and then again arguably in 2014. I mean, theres been at least seven instances in which israel has said we will give effectively all of the West Bank and all of gaza, which wa, you know, previously the West Bank was, was, was run by was, was owned by jordan, was a jordanian territory until 67, and gaza was an egyptian territory, they have said they would give all of that land back to the arabs in exchange for peace. Every single time. The Palestinian Leadership has said no. The palestinians have been by groups like hamas and a very militant palestinian authority in the West Bank that has rejected peace. So, julianne, this doesnt this doesnt end until it doesnt end until we until we make it clear to iran what the deal is. And that if they one of the most successful Country Duos ever, together but for now, they are on their own. He came to new York City so we wanted to catch up with him and find out where he wanted to go. I want to try the solo thing and keep everything together and the okay, lets go solo. I thought i would just be a songwriter, three kids at the time. Life was hectic and crazy, i had a ruptured achilles and ours down. It was a wild season but i thought i would just lay low and write songs and i ended up meeting current manager and the team and i got inspired and i thought build something. Getting my bearings on stage and i am excited for will. Tony and new York City. You remember when the pressure went off, because of the third Number One you felt like i can do this . I think it was a little pressure released after the first Number One, the fans about my back and people are connecting with the music but ultimately i felt release being able to make it and get back to doing what i love. All the Stress And Pressure by the Number One. Did you see something in him . I was one of those guys definitely Saw Something in him like everybody else does and hes super talented and a lot of fun watching him grow into who he is and what hes become and its an incredible Right And Fun to see it from the beginning. Youre ready to go but your family, if you have something going on, you try to be at Kindergarten Graduation and be still with your family. Its a Constant Balancing Act an arm and a beautiful season with a lot of great things going on but it requires a lot of balance between my wife and three kids, my career and songwriting. I have a great team to help me juggle it but have to take latenight flights to make it to Kindergarten Graduation and things but its what ive chosen to do and i prioritize being a Dad And Husband as much as i prioritize being an artist.
