starts right now. >> martha: thank you both very much. i'm martha maccallum and this is the story. former president trump about to hold a rally in virginia, a tight race right now. he's trying to become the first republican presidential candidate to win the state in 20 years. biden won by ten points last time around. we will see what he has to say. we expect in any moment and will take you there. clearly he will reflect on last night's debate, which was very consequential in many ways, not grade ways for joe biden. we will talk about that quite a bit. the president also on the campaign trail in north carolina trying to clean up on aisle 5, and he worked hard at that this afternoon to get a bounce back from a very difficult night last night. here's some of the reaction to last night in the media, after the debate. >> the biggest issue he had to prove to the american people was he had the energy and stamina, and he did not do that. >> how long do we continue to act like we did not see what we just saw last night? >> every aid i've spoken to, democrats are worried about what they saw from the president. >> martha: in moments, biden campaign cochair and delaware senator chris koons joins us and the republican national committee cochair lara trump about first senior white house correspondent peter doocy from the north lawn where there is a lot of talk in the building today about this. hi. >> this just in, barack obama has spoken. he posted on x a few minutes ago, bad debate night happen, trust me, i know. we can confirm that at some point this afternoon shortly there will be in all biden campaign staff meeting happening. we are told they do it most fridays but most fridays the staff does not have 90 minutes of fresh sound of their boss giving halting, sometimes hard to understand answers. today in north carolina, on teleprompter, he was much more energetic. >> president joe biden: i don't walk as easy as i used to worse because smoothly as i used to. i don't debate as well as i used to. but i know what i do know, i know how to tell the truth. [cheering and applause] i know -- i know right from wrong. and i know how to do this job. i know how to get things done. [cheering and applause] and i know like millions of americans know, when you get knocked down, you get back up. >> reporter: the biden team is trying to get people more focused on the things that trump was saying. >> what you saw last night on the debate stage was joe biden, a president with integrity and character. [cheering and applause] who told the truth, and donald trump told lie after lie after lie. oh, you are good, you are so good! >> reporter: but there was some revisionist history going on from president biden as well. he mischaracterized the biggest foreign policy moment of his presidency, the terrorist bombing at abbey gate in cabell, afghanistan, that killed 13 usa service members. >> president joe biden: the truth is on the only president this century that does not have any -- of this decade, i did not have troops dying anywhere in the world like he did. >> reporter: well, as a defence department a few minutes ago, a spokesperson disputed that, saying we have certainly had service members pass during our administration. martha? >> martha: peter, thank you. let's bring in biden campaign cochair and delaware senator chris coons. thank you very much for joining us today. it has been a busy day or democrats, discussing what happened last night. i want to start there. i'm not sure how a commander in chief forgets, even momentarily, the 13 young people, u.s. service members who died on the bridge, at the gate at abbey gate at kabul airport. it was a horrific situation and a lot of young lives lost. how do you explain that? >> look, martha, last night was a rough start for joe biden, or president. but one of the core issues they debated last night was their view of veterans and veterans sacrifice. former president trump flat-out lied about the attribution to him of having called americans who fell in line in service to our nation suckers and losers -- >> martha: which you know he has complete lead denied. he has completely denied. >> frankly, joe biden signed into law the biggest expansion and veterans health care since the second world war. and the former president did not. >> martha: i understand that, i'm just asking you a question about the cognitive ability of the president. doesn't it surprise you that he could forget that he lost 13 usa service members in that horrific bombing at abbey gait? how does a president forget losing 13 u.s. service members, and there were others. but let's focus on them for now. how does he forget that? >> martha, i have been with both presidents, former president trump and tripp -- president biden at dover air force base as we welcome how many remains of americans who fell in service to our country. and as they visited with their families. joe biden feels deeply and personally his commitment to our's veterans and those who sacrifice. and the speech he just gave in raleigh, north carolina, and i'm confident speeches he will be giving in the days ahead, reflect his energy, his capacity and his determination. i suspect you watched this on the beaches of normandy, remember in the 80th anniversary of the americans who sacrifice their lives in the second world war. we are going to welcome our nato allies to washington next month where we will recognize president biden led nato to its strongest chapter ever. the defence of ukraine, and to rally the contributions of 50 countries -- >> martha: there's a very -- >> another thing donald trump lied about last night. >> martha: i'm talking to you about biden's performance. we will talk about trump's performance as well. i want to ask you, was it not disturbing to you to see him -- we can move on from the service members. i'm sure their families will not move on but we can move on for the time being. his performance is so incredibly uneven. we just saw him knock it out of the park, when he's got two tele proctors at a speechwriter, as karl rove just said, he can do fine. but why is his performance so uneven and what is it like when he is behind closed doors with a foreign leader and it's all off-the-cuff and he has to remember these important details? >> he is tremendous. i will tell you, i just met with a number of senior italian leaders in rome earlier this week. the g7, which just concluded in italy, was a moment when he was commanded by all of the g7 leaders for his grasp of details, for his engagement. i have seen this myself when i was with him at the nato summit. joe biden has 50 years of experience in foreign policy. >> martha: no doubt. >> and he is strong. behind doors and when he's in front of the camera. >> martha: that part you have to concede is a bit of a question because people in your own party are asking -- no one big grudges his service to the country over all of these years, but the question is do you believe -- when you look at the country, the health of the country, the future of the country, do you believe that he can serve for four more years given the state -- and he just conceded that he's not in the shape that he used to be. four more years, can he do it, do you think? can you look everyone in the eye and tell them that? >> yes. let me ask you this question, which of the two candidates on the debate stage last night as a vice president, a secretary of defence and the chief of staff who have publicly said they don't belong anywhere near the oval office? donald trump. who lied about the state of our economy and about his record? donald trump. who has a strong record to run on and the ability to get things done? >> martha: all of this is up to the american people. they are going to watch and we are going to see how it goes. just because you brought up the point about those individuals, what former president trump said last night's why didn't president biden fire anyone for what happened in afghanistan? can you answer that question? why didn't he? >> the point you are reminding us of is that former president trump has a vice president and a former secretary of defence who say that they worked with him closely and he should not be trusted with our nation's security the one that's on the record. >> that's far more alarming than what internal policy decisions joe biden made to discipline or not discipline folks about the surrender -- about the loss of our position in afghanistan. >> martha: do you believe no one should have been fired for what happened in afghanistan? you agree with his decision on that? >> i can hardly hear you, please say that again? >> martha: i'm asking if you agree that no one should have been fired for the debacle and chaos in afghanistan with the exit? >> i think that former president trump made concessions to the taliban that made our position in afghanistan untenable and president biden made hard choices. the execution of the withdrawal, frankly i do think there were issues that should have been addressed. but i was not in the details about the coordination between the defence department, state department and the after action. i will say this. in standing up for freedom and defending ukraine, i'm proud of the job joe biden has done corralling 50 allies around the world, and i'm alarmed by what donald trump said last night, that he would let russia do whatever they want to our nato allies if they aren't paying their fair share when it comes to keeping us safe around the world, and fighting for average american families, joe biden has a great record. i look forward to supporting him for his election this fall. >> martha: senator, i want to thank you for being here. it's a significant day in this whole process and as we know, and we just showed on air, president biden says he intends to win the election and intends to debate again come september. we will watch all of the race closely. thank you, good to have you as always. >> thanks, martha. >> martha: as we wait for former president trump in virginia we showed you current president biden in north carolina moments ago. let's listen to president biden again talking about the debate. >> president joe biden: i know i'm not a young man. i don't debate as well as i used to. but i know what i do know, i know how to tell the truth. >> martha: with that let's bring in lara trump, republican national committee chair, cochair and former president trump's daughter-in-law, always good to have you with us, thanks for being here. i had -- i ran out of time with senator chris coons but i want to ask you the question he left hanging, when he talked about the fact that he claims former president trump would allow putin to do whatever he wants if the country -- countries that are in nato don't pay their fair share, is it an accurate characterization? >> i think you heard donald trump last night explain himself very clearly, which obviously we did not get from joe biden on any front, martha. it was a dumpster fire for him as everyone has noted, last night. and i think donald trump's point is we cannot be funding the entire world. the united states should not have that weight on our shoulders. you saw how effective donald trump actually was with nato when he was in the white house, when he was president of the united states nato was paying their fair share. i think his point is wire we not even asking for that? why isn't it the right thing being done on a host of fronts, but certainly with that. if i could address your previous guest for a moment, that's the problem with the democrat party, what he just did when he came on your show moments ago, and lied to the american people, is the reason we are in this mess right now. the democrats have known full well that joe biden's cognitive state is in severe decline, that he does not have the capacity to run the united states of america as the president. we all can see that and they've been lying to us about it. with the aid of the liberal media, they've been able to hide joe biden yet last night they had to bring him out and they had to put him on full display. this is not the only thing though, america, they've been lying about. they must think the american people are stupid. look back to the russia collusion hoax. how long did they lie about that? it took a government investigation to shut it down. it was hillary clinton and the dnc that colluded with russia, not the trump campaign as trump to win in 2016. you have a host of reasons the american people should be very distrustful of the democrat party. they have not a modicum of trust left in them at this point -- >> martha: i want to ask you a little about the rnc business. i want to get it in before we run out of time. does the trump team and the rnc want to run against joe biden? do you want him to stay in the race? do you feel like that is the best competition? >> i think you very clearly saw last night a completely different side of america. you saw one side of a week america at a weak leader in joe biden, you saw a strong leader in donald trump. so when you want to give us someone who clearly is not up to the task to run against, i think we would be crazy to say we want to run against anyone else. what i'm concerned about, and i heard speaker mike johnson say it today, is joe biden has to continue to be president until donald trump is sworn into office in january 2025. that's very concerning. our adversaries and allies watched alongside the american people last night and wow, what a difference and what a frightening thought that joe biden is literally in charge of america. that's terrifying to a lot of people. >> martha: thank you very much. we heard senator chris coons say that he think he handles foreign leaders well. i asked him that question for the same reason based on what we saw last night. it's concerning to wonder if he's having these kinds of thought lapses and freeze ups -- >> and he could not give you a direct answer, he could not give you an answer and he won't. >> martha: thank you very much. good to have you here, lara trump, cochair of the rnc. we will see lots of her and the team out there. we go to milwaukee a few weeks and we are about to hear from former president trump for the first time since the debate, as president biden tries to convince voters that he can still pack a punch after disastrous debate performance. that's the motorcade arriving that you see in chesapeake, virginia. they were behind but they have worked to catch up time when your flight is delayed and you somehow get there on time anyway, that seems to be happening in virginia. janet caldwell and clay travis are up next. >> martha: we are waiting for former president trump in virginia, chesapeake, virginia. the state has not voted for a republican presidential candidate in two decades but a recent fox poles shows a tight race, a dead heat in virginia. president biden won the state for years ago by ten points, a comfortable margin. clay travis, philippe, gianno caldwell all standing by but first lucas tomlinson is live at the trump rally in chesapeake, virginia. hi. >> hi, fresh off his debate performance president trump arrived in virginia and in the last few minute's we have seen the motorcade pull up so we should hear former president trump any minute now. earlier today we saw thousands of people coming to the greenbrier farms in chesapeake, virginia, just outside of nor folk, the largest navy base in the country. it's a state that no republican has taken into mac decades. you have to go back to george w. bush in 2004. earlier we spoke to people including young people who told us why they are voting for donald trump. >> my demographic or my age are all pro trump. everyone is starting to see after the debate last night how unqualified joe biden is to run the nation. >> i absolutely think trump will win virginia. he is winning it. >> reporter: a different story today, martha. virginia is a state that many people what -- thought was a swing state until a few months ago but today a different story. thanks to a fox news poll of the race is now a dead heat, tied up and that is one of the reasons president trump came. he just arrived. you are the motorcade. the first lady was campaigning a few days ago. officials tell us there's 10,000 people here to hear the former president and he's taking the stage in moments. >> martha: lucas, we will watch. thank you. let's bring our panel, clay travis, gianno caldwell, fox news political analyst. philippe, let me start with you, i thank you all for being here. i want to play one at the sound bites from the debate that was troublesome and get your reaction and what you think parties should do about the situation we saw last night. >> president joe biden: there's so many young women who have been included -- including the young woman who was murdered. the idea that she was murdered by an immigrant coming in to talk about that, but here's the deal, there's a lot of young women being by their in-laws, by their spouses, brothers and sisters, it's just ridiculous. and they can do nothing about it. and they try to arrest them when they cross state lies. >> martha: that was the answer to the question on abortion. what did you make of that and do you understand what he was saying or trying to say? >> i will say a couple things. joe biden didn't have a good night last night. that is not just my opinion, that's joe biden's opinion. he said that a few hours ago, did not have a good debate. there will be other debates and he will do better. it's as simple as having a bad night. we will talk about cognition for the rest of the way, that's fine. donald trump has waged a war against the english language since he came on the public scene. he lied about his health starting in 2015 when he forged his own doctor's note. he lied about why he went to walter reed hospital in 2019. in 2020,'s doctors lied about the severity of his covid. if we are going to have the argument, let's have it evenly on both sides. what it comes down to is a good president had a really bad night. a really bad ex-president had a good night. for the first time in six tries in his debates in the general election. >> martha: i will let you respond to that clay, what do you say to that. >> thanks for having me on, happy early fourth of july. i'm glad philippe is here because i saw cnn reporting last night that a high-ranking cnn official in the democratic party, wanted to throw himself off a bridge and i was afraid it was philippe after how the debate went last night. i give him credit -- >> i would never skip a friday with clay. [laughter] >> martha: good answer. >> i appreciate him showing up and trying to spin it. it's like losing a football game 65-3 and bragging about a field goal. the race is over. i have my red jacket on because i'm ready for the inauguration party, i'm ready for election night. if they stick with joe biden there is a 0% chance he's going to be elected president of the united states. we have the rally in virginia going. as you mentioned, martha, trump lost virginia by ten. i think he will win this election. i think by 11:00 rachel maddow is going to be curled up in the fetal position on election night crying with a bottle of vodka beside her and joe scarborough, i don't know how he's going to get out of bed the next morning based on the comments he made. msnbc and cnn are in full on mourning. the joe biden campaign is over. he delivered what all of us have seen for the past several months and been accused of gaslighting for saying and been accused of spreading cheap fakes. joe biden does not have the mental or physical capacity to be president of the united states. for 90 minutes we all saw it last night. the election is over. >> we heard in the reports that he was an elderly man with a poor memory, the video that has never been released. now we might be getting a better sense of why. "the wall street journal" wrote a story about how the president is slipping and had a lot of sources. that was lambasted. there's been an effort to keep this under the lid and it seems to have boiled over that last night. i don't know how well the argument is going to work in the future after that. your thoughts? >> it brings me no solace to say this, it's not about the debate last night. it's not about the election in november. it's about the decisions them man we saw last night, the man who was the commander in chief of our country, the decisions in which she's making today for future generations. i'm extraordinarily concerned as an american citizen with what we saw last night. as you mentioned, martha, all of the sources have been on record that they try to discredit, also people who said, including the speaker of the house, former and current speakers of the house. they said joe biden could not even negotiate with them. we saw that on display last night. if i was philippe i would be saying you know what, maybe you are right and we have to either switch out biden or vote donald trump in 2024. this is a disgrace for our country. i have friends from across the world who are calling me concerned. how can your country have this man is president? and to be honest, i have no idea. it's not about the election, it's not political. >> martha: i want to play this. there is a lot of inner turmoil about the decision and what to do, whether the party should stick with president biden or whether they should try to get someone else in. that may have been one of the reasons we had this very early debate june 27th, to leave a bit of runway for that. here he is on the perils of this. >> here is the risk. if any of them call me i would say look, the first politician, the first democratic politician to step down it will end their career. there's a dozen governors in my party who could be strong candidates. maybe half a dozen at least. none of them are going to say let me step forward and knife julius caesar. >> martha: what do you say about that, philippe, and the decision that has to be made? >> there is no decision. joe biden is the president. he says he's running, that's what he's doing. it's no different than october 2016 when the republican party was fretting and pulling their hair out about access hollywood and donald trump didn't listen to everyone who came to trump trump tower. it's no different in the summer of 2016 when he -- it is the same. >> the we know that -- >> let me finish my point. >> martha: let finish your point. >> martha: let me finish my point. you want to talk commander in chief decisions, let's talk about what donald trump said. he said nobody was killed on his watch. four special forces were killed in 2018. why doesn't he call their parents and say i'm sorry i forgot about your people dying. and afghanistan, why don't we say donald trump was the one who gave the taliban another six months to stay? so last night was a debacle. i'm not pretending he did great. but it wasn't night. clay, i love your confidence and if you want to go to the golf course with your red jacket for 130 days, i love it. let us do our thing. we will do it with joe biden and he will continue to point out that donald trump is a bad president and joe biden is working hard and going to. then we will see what we see in november. >> martha: okay,, philippe. you are on record 100%, this is the program and we are sticking with it. you may be right. i'm not sure there's a lot of alternatives. that's clearly what the president and first lady want. they made it clear moments ago. final thought as we look at this and wait for former president trump to come out and talk about -- i'm sure he will be feeling good about his performance last night. he generally does. quick thought? >> i would like to be the first person on fox news to congratulate donald trump on his reelection to the presidency of the united states. the race is over. i don't think he needs to debate anymore. i think you can do a lot of rallies. >> martha: it's june, clay, it's june. [laughter] >> it's over. >> martha: we are saving the tape on all of this. we will see how it all works outcome november. we do have several months between now and then and i have a feeling there will be some twists and turns. thank you guys very much. philippe, thank you, clay. >> thanks for having me. >> martha: have a great weekend at a great fourth of july. >> see you in a week. >> martha: we're waiting to hear from former president trump at her rally in virginia, as calls for president biden to step aside in many places are pretty loud. >> people are talking behind their hand. they worry about joe biden. you start to wonder, would you give this grandpa a high stress job for six more years, or would you want something else for him? >> i love that guy. it's a good man, there's a lot of people who are going to want to see him consider taking a different course now. >> just do a check and say is it the right thing to do? >> there will be discussions about whether he should continue for whatever reason. there is a change at the top of the ticket, you guys are in trouble with donald trump. >> martha: those voices for some time have been concerned about joe biden as president. and him running for reelection. david webb is here, host of the david webb show and a fox news can treat her. good to have you here today. you listened to these conversations and we are waiting for former president trump, we just showed a few moments ago the former president in north carolina sounding strong today. what do you make of the situation? >> no matter what, they can't remove the visual from last night. that is the first thing. and add that, joe biden started off last night with lies. it is fact. charlottesville, lie debunks. other lies, debunked. and i just watch this commentary where philippe tries to make it seem as if it is all donald trump that is wrong, the people who live in reality, one for -- 1.4% inflation, joe biden under him up to 9%. now back down. core inflation remaining high year-over-year. increase in food and fuel prices. all of the things americans deal with on a daily basis added to community safety. how do you feel, if you go back to the reagan years, are you better off today than four years ago? now people can compare four years to four years and what they were living with. no matter what the democrats try to message, no matter what they try to say about last night, they can't change people's reality. i talked to listeners everyday who call in, average americans, whether they are low income, truckers, rich people, they are all echoing the same issues or similar thoughts about the economy and while joe biden says he wants to tax billionaires to save social security, which economically makes no sense, -- >> martha: there's not enough of them. >> was it 1000, trillion? that was a misspeak, i will be fair about that. he doesn't have anything he said last night that could be -- that you could write an economic equation for. >> martha: yeah. what about when you look at this -- what other options? and the options, if they were to have this sit down, which some of these insider democrat fund-raisers were talking about online, and i know there's a lot of conversations out there, cooler heads want to wait for the first polls in about five days, and see exactly what the damage looks like. but new summer or running against kamala harris for former president trump, what would it look like? would it be harder for trump than to run against biden? >> i look at it strategically. you have a weakened opponent now in joe biden. you have failures in policy that we see playing out every day and likely not a lot of that is going to change between now and the election. border policy, when you saw majorca's go to tucson. they aren't in control of this or they are deliberate controlling and causing this. so from the republican side you want a weak president, you want to get -- run against the weak opponent. now that the others are stronger. kamala harris, remember the little girl on a school bus? joe biden? remember that? gavin newsom failed california, $28 billion in the hole plus long-term unfunded liabilities. look at los angeles, san francisco, oakland. look at what is going on in southern california at the border. i don't want to change stories. i think strategically you want to run against biden, the known failure. >> martha: i'm sure trump wants to run against biden and he said today he will be the candidate, which i think it shows it is what he wants. i want to ask about the pundit class out there, and the bolstering of biden that we have seen. here is joe scarborough praising biden, his acumen and mental abilities, and eating some of that earlier today. watch. >> if you can't handle the truth f you. this version of biden intellectually, analytically, is the best biden ever. not a close second. >> this is the last chance for democrats to decide whether this man we have known and loved for a long time is up to the task of running for president of the united states. >> this goes to the next point, to your question earlier. add this out, how do you get joe biden to drop out? if you look at dnc rules, first he would have to withdraw. that's the first step. not likely because joe biden has wanted this since he ran for president in the 80s. remember, he removed himself from the race over plagiarism. but he has always wanted this no matter what. jill biden, who's probably one of the worst offenders i've seen for an elder care partner, wife or husband, wants to be there too and it is well-known in washington. so joe biden will not withdraw. if he doesn't, they would need at least half of the almost 4000 delegates to revolt against him. there's not a clear path for a replacement. but the deadline is august seventh. before august seventh it is likely misses the decision they will have to have to come to. unless joe biden -- i will make -- play made a prediction, let david webb make a prediction. unless joe biden is incapacitated in some form where he is medically unable, he will not withdraw because it is not what joe biden wants. he did not just reverse trump with executive orders, he wanted his vision of where he saw himself in this and has seen himself over the years. so while there is pundit class reversing themselves and putting out questions, the fact is they are up against the lies they put out. biden will not get better between now and november. he will at best to stay where he is or degrade even more. >> martha: john federman got better and everyone could not believe he was elected. and he did get better. and he is tweeting today telling people to chill out, in stronger words than that. but i think the polling thing is something to watch because i think there is a lot of emotion around this today and i think there is well-placed disgruntlement over the way he is being presented by the white house, the staff and everybody else. slamming "the wall street journal" for the story. so there has been an effort to cover it up we saw last night. and as you say, you cannot unsee it. we will see where it goes. david webb, thank you. >> great to see you. >> martha: have a great fourth of july if i don't see you between now and then. >> our nation's birthday. love it. >> martha: indeed. chatter today in a democratic circles. some are sticking with president biden, others are saying they need to pull the record and find someone new. can it be done? >> the narrative is not correct. to be have concerns and wish he did better yesterday? yes. why? because we put people over politics and we know what is at stake in the country. >> reporter: democrats were absolutely rocked at president biden's performance in the debate. reporters chased democrats across capitol hill about whether the president was step down. most defended him in public. >> is there conceivably any mechanism to remove him from the ballot? >> there's a mechanism. we have a national convention and delegates make the decision. >> but isn't it going to be more intense now? >> based upon last night there will be a lot of nights between now and chicago. >> reporter: democrats are set to lock in their delegates for president biden on august seventh, before the democratic convention. it is nearly impossible to remove the president from the ballot after that. house speaker mike johnson says the cabinet should consider using the 20th amendment to sidetrack the president. >> you have all been reporting all day about the panic that has ensued in the democratic party. i would be panicking too if i was a democrat today and that was my nominee. we have a president who, by all appearances, is not up to the task and these are dangerous times. >> reporter: g.o.p. texas representative chip roy introduced a resolution calling on vice president harris to invoke the 20th amendment to remove biden. one senior house democratic source says the current path is quote "not sustainable". martha? >> martha: thank you chad. joining me now as president or historian douglas brinkley, professor of history at rice university and the author of wonderful books on the presidency and he was history, european history. great to have you. and what you saw last night, do you see a constitutional concern? >> i don't think it is going to happen, the 25th. you are not going to have kamala harris starting the process, or you won't have the cabinet. what was disconcerting is president biden had one goal, the desired effect was to get democrats united behind him, even if you could call who won, it would not matter. instead you have a deeply divided democratic party. what did they do? the only thing they can do is try to persuade joe biden to step down if they want to, but he is the decider. only joe and jill can decide at this point whether he does like what nixon did on march 31st -- lbj, i mean. >> martha: let's play the lbj tape because he is the only president who has done this and he did it in march in the cycle of 1968. watch. >> i shall not seek and will not accept the nomination of my party for another term as your president . >> martha: so, because i'm always interested in this, i think other people are too, what were the forces that pushed lbj to make the decision? >> the offensive in vietnam going badly against u.s. troops. the fact is eugene mccarthy, senator from minnesota, getting involved in the new hampshire primary. bobby kennedy putting on heat that he was going to run. walter cronkite going on a vietnam who, what, where, win and why in the evening saying johnson's war was not working. but bad health, high cholesterol, and lady bird johnson helped say enough, let's go back to texas. and that's what happened here, jill biden would have to tell joe and off. >> martha: does not look like it's happening. i think he was about 60, he was not old at the time, johnson by today's standards. >> he had a heart attack, yeah the one at this is an interesting tweet from the polish foreign minister. he says marcus orillia's was a great emperor but screwed up his succession by passing the baton to his backless son does, from the gladiator, who's disastrous rule started roams decline. it's important to manage one's ride into the sunset. what about the foreign leader issue? that is a clear shot over the bow. >> it is, it's the kingly her story and shakespeare. nobody knows when you're time to step down is. obviously when biden decided to go for a second term it was preoctober seventh, focused on a ukraine it now and the middle east, the campus unrest. it seems to be the agenda is getting bigger and bigger. the problem was it wasn't even a michael dukakis performance. that was the worst performance of any person running for president ever that we saw. then you have reset biden in raleigh, giving a killer speech. >> martha: with prompters and a speechwriter. >> prompters and a speechwriter. i think from now on you will keep biden and harris but they will just do prompters and speeches and try to get to that date, august seventh, when they are the nominees. >> martha: this has been going on since 2020 when we have a campaign in the basement and it was just sitting in front of a prompter in the basement, not a lot of pressing the flesh. there are people at the white house who have to be keeping this afloat? >> i think the white house has done a disservice on trying to punch down everyone who said something's off with biden's health. he does not seem right. the white house attacked "the new york times" for daring to say that. now this is why a lot of reporters questioned it, because people saw it with their own eyes. 50 million people with their own eyes. that is a hard thing to reconfigure. last night, is lost a lot of young people. you won't suddenly have youngsters saying let's put my biden sign up. trump could be his own worst enemy. we don't know what will happen with that. it's a long way to november. but i think everyone is still shell-shocked regardless what party you are in, from the performance of biden last night. >> martha: i have covered a lot of debates and moderated them and i've never seen anything like that. it was like it became about the performance and the questions started getting lost because it was all -- all you could see. douglas, always good to talk to you. thank you very much. good to have you with us. moments away from president trump's first rally since last night's debate. it may have been a game changer. we will see feeling ughh from a backed up gut? [ ♪♪ ] >> busy day for the campaigners. president biden and joe biden getting a marine 1. they have a fundraiser at the ballroom in new york city. pretty sure elton john is the headliner but there's questions about whether or not all of those donors will turn out in a big way after last night's performance so that something to watch on that front and then we have waiting for former president trump to get going at that rally which will be his first appearance since last night's big debate which has been much talk about all through today but another huge story today that we got several big rulings from the supreme court. fox news sunday anchor and chief legal correspondent sharon brain reporting live from washington. shannon tell us a little bit about these very big decisions that we got from the court today >> 1 of the 2 we thought would have the most impact potentially in the presidential race was a case involving january 6 defendants. the court said the majority anyway is the way the justice department use the federal statute that charged many of those cases with hundreds of them, it was done improperly. that gives all the defendants a chance to go back to court and back to the doj and fight to have this charges toronto. that includes 2 for president trump but the big 1 is immunity. monday we know its last day so we know it's coming then and there working around the clock. the justice said during the arguments we are writing a rule for the ages. it is something that will impact not only this race. these cases but potentially the concept of immunity for president class for generations to come so couple federal regulatory power today and what a lot of small government folks are calling a big victory. so not a great day for the biden administration and see what monday brings. >> the chevron deference case will have a big impact on a lot of small businesses. >> yes what happens there is federal regulatory power was vested in the agencies basically if a law from congress was ambiguous the these federal agencies could say we have an interpretation you have to follow and he didn't give people a lot of chance to push back but you remember and have covered this case by these fishery folks who said we can't pay to put monitors on are both but you are requiring us to do it by federal regulations were big win for small businesses who say they just can't handle that level of burden or at least not have a way to challenge. >> that the burden off the backs thank you very much. here's former president trump walking onstage in chesapeake chesapeake virginia governor glenn young can will also be there. he's been sort of on the longer list of potential vice presidential possibilities, and only president trump knows who he's going to pick. that will be the really big piece of news that we get our knowledge this. who is his vp pick? there some inklings from insiders that it's going to happen at the republican convention in milwaukee and who he chooses may have influence on who wins this election and whether were not he can pick up some bouts with independence and some other places where he wants to win but virginia what a story this is. this is a tied state now and we had joe biden taken by 10 points last time around. caldwell is watching this with us fox news political analyst. what's the electoral college look like if virginia is in play? >> it puts them closer to winning this thing to 270. he needs wisconsin pennsylvania. those are important states as well as arizona but we saw last night at the debate is much more disciplined donald trump and i think we've ever seen and you and i have been talking to donald trump for about 8 years now. this is good news for the republican party. many republicans sitting on the sideline maybe even hailey voters have decided many from last night's debate that they want to be on the trump train and that's really good news for the country as well is an seeing joe biden's performance last night which gives me a lot less confidence that he's able to run the country especially for 4 more years. >> yeah, the president is about to speak. let's listen in. >> thank you very much. thank you. thank you hello virginia. did anybody last night watch a thing called the debate? that was a big 1 but as you saw on television last night we had a big victory against a man that really is looking to destroy our country. is the worst. he's the most corrupt the most incompetent president in the history of our country. and we have to take it back from party. that's an evil party. despite the fact that crooked joe biden spent the entire week at camp david resting working studying. he studied very hard. he studied so hard he didn't what the hell he was doing. he got the debate rules that he wanted. he got the date that he wanted. he got the network that he wanted with the moderates he wanted. no amount of rest or rigging could help him defend his atrocious record. it's not defensible. i don't care who you were. you could be the late great clarence darrow. has anyone ever heard of clarence darrow. he was known as quite a good debater. not as good as you governor but that's okay. hello governor. i can't miss this guy in the crowd. [ cheering and applause ] but his son is much better looking than him. joe biden's problem is not his age. is not anything really. he's got no problem other than his confidence competence. he's grossly incompetent. i know people that are much older than him doing unbelievable thingng
