He brokered the deals for Stormy Daniels and Karen Mcdougall but he really got his feet help to the fire by both sides. So, also today on the other big story weve followed all week for you, today we heard from the former and current president. They addressed the chaos unfolding in the Early Morning hours at ucla and across the country. Watch this. [ chanting ] so we have the ongoing situation at Portland State university where we are learning 12 people have been arrested. This is what President Trump had to say about this earlier this morning when we saw him near the courthouse. Watch this. These are radical left lunatics. Then a couple hours later we finally heard from current President Biden who is not spoken about any of this since he was really pinned down to a question april 22nd. Watch. Davidson also answered questions about a post about Stormy Daniels and President Trump from 2011. He had the post taken down five years later he negotiated a 130,000dollar payment from Michael Cohen to suppress the same story. Davidson did not connect any of the deals directly to trump he said cohen told him f it i will do it myself. He also signed a confidential confidentially confidentiality agreement. He appeared suicidal after not getting a position in Trumps White House after the election. Lawyers asked them for the definition of extortion and question him about deals he made with celebrities like lindsay lohan, hulk hogan and charlie sheen. Trump is also responding this afternoon to reports he appeared tired while listening to todays testimony, posting on true social contrary to the Fake News Media i dont fall asleep during cricket das witchhunt, especially not today. Kaylee i just wanted youre thoughts on this because does this go to motive in terms of Michael Cohen and how he handled all of this . And his own wanting 2. 2 figure elsewhere because we heard a lot today about this not touching trumps hands and thats what davidson testified today it. It is one of the most biggest and interesting takeaways from Keith Davidson in addition to the defence laying out a pattern of extortion if he will he calls them settlements. But learning about this exchange with Michael Cohen is big. We know he has a history of lying and this is the witness on which the prosecution hangs the entire case and now we learn about Michael Cohen perhaps a motive and not being taken to washington than coming out with all of this salacious information. When you add that this is not information the jury heard but just for viewers to hear, the earlier conversation about the gag order where it said Michael Cohen is out there making money on ticktock floating a tv show these are the allegations of the defence. It paints the picture of a witness that is questionable to say the least and this is the witness on which the entire case rests. Yeah, and they really work to try davidson tied him to davidson and take both off the table together. Well see if they did that satisfactorily. I want youre thoughts of this campus chaos we are seeing as well in terms of what the impact is on the 2024 election. I thought it was interesting because Joe Scarborough this morning on his show in the morning basically said it took him back to the Law Order Campaign of Richard Nixon in 1968 and he said this is what turned his family who were Southern Democrats to become republicans which swept that whole region during that period. Here is what he said. The riots on College Campuses and at the Chicago Convention and 68, all of those things moved my family from being democrats their entire life to being republicans. We certainly see divisions within israel and within jewish people here in terms of what they support. At thank most sane people can say we need to have peaceful situations in terms of these protests but, you know, one of the things i think that will get a lot of attention here is the question of law and order. We keep thinking back to 1968 when nixon won on a law and order platform really when there was so much to mould and protesting going on in the country. If you could speak to what the trump team back the defence side was trying to establish today in terms of the fact one of the witnesses who was the attorney Stormy Daniels and Karen Mcdougall basically said in all of his dealings with Michael Cohen it was really Michael Cohen he was always dealing with and that he said he was going to do with that on his own and use his own money to take care of this situation. What does that tell you and how do you thank the jury will take it in . Thank you martha. Let me say it was vary and lightening some of the testimony today because what it really showed was that Michael Cohen was driving this boss all along. In fact he was the one that was making the deals, as you said he was talking about paying it out of his own money. Then later he also testified Michael Cohen was upset he didnt get the job he wanted in washington dc. He was going to be brought into a high position in the administration. What we see time and time again here is the real defendant, the person the prosecutors should really be going after here is not donald trump packets Michael Cohen. Martha you know, you get in there and you listen to all of this as i did today, jesse you are talking about extortion plots from this attorney and whether or not he is an extortionist, and all of this, it is a lot of groundwork but the jury is this knew to all of this. I dont know whats going on in their minds, its always a big question when you watch this play out but we havent really gotten to the crux of how that relates to this state felony that they claim is an election interference charge. Thats absolutely right because what they have right now on the Witness Stand someone whos being investigated for extortion before, someone who has really the Trump Lawyers today were showing how this was an Extortion Attempt against President Trump all along but what the prosecution cannot do and all of this even if they get these witnesses to testify to everything they want them to testify to his connected to any crime. Connect it to any Campaign Finance act violation because time and again the experts in Campaign Finance law for instance former commissioners at the federal commission have explained that this is not a violation of Campaign Finance law. It something a Nondisclosure Agreement is not something prohibited by the federal Election Campaign act. So, this is probably why alvin Braggs Office has been so slow to try to show what their actual theory, legal theory of the case is. Because they dont really have a legal theory of the case that can withstand or muster especially on a pallet review. I thank the new witness martha is probably part of the tedious part of the trial where they have to lay the foundation for other evidence they will put in. If he is a digital expert he is probably explaining to the jury why a recording is authentic which is important in terms of the integrity of the evidence but isnt vary riveting riveting. As far as the testimony we are seeing, i really think the trump team has been induced by bad rulings from the judge to do this but their defence doesnt make any sense to me because if you want to make a big deal about the fact Michael Cohen was driving this train, that sounds like what he was doing was really bad and thats not consistent with saying Nondisclosure Agreements are completely legal. So if your position is Nondisclosure Agreements are completely legal as i said the peas are rogue earlier today i think i would be sitting there doing the Crossword Puzzle not acting like i was being hurt by the testimony of his lawyer for Stormy Daniels. If it is legal then why paint cohen as a fuse doing something terrible . Martha you make a great point andy as always. You could be examining this witness and sang than you did this, thing you did that then you did this all of which under New York State Law is completely legal and then just sit down and let them go to it. I do want to ask you about this because there is backandforth on Michael Cohen at his post this morning with this issue. Obviously former President Donald Trump wants to be able to say whatever he wants. He feels like everyone else gets to end the judge pointed out he is the one on trial and these other people are not. But Michael Cohen has been so aggressive and what he is posted here that a lot of folks including our legal analyst said there is no reason not to gag Michael Cohen. But a couple of these posts up, it is a repost which we know the former president got in trouble for doing of super victim former President Trump in a huge overweight superhero cost jim. And then this one fact the other one, where cohen says keep messing with me donald and i wont send you any money to your commissary. Michael cohen with another stick action figure. Should these things, i think they may have been taken down, but should they impose a gag order on Michael Cohen even though he said he put one on himself at this point quick. I dont think there should be any gag orders frankly but if youre going to have them, i think what youre seeing from judge marchand is virtually every important thing he gets it wrong. So the answer here is not that Michael Cohen is not on trial and trump is, the judges job is to protect the defendant, the other people, you know, but if merchant is saying i need these gag orders in order to protect the jury from prejudicial outside publicity then what difference doesnt make of it is donald trump talking about the case or cohen or any other participant in it . And obviously the prosecutors have a lot of influence over Michael Cohen you think they could stop them from doing these posts in a heartbeat but obviously they decided not to do that. I think you make such a good point i hope people pay close attention to it with regard to the defence and the approach and if their line of thinking is that there is nothing illegal that happened here, that line needs to be drawn clearly for the jury for them to be successful in that. What is youre take on this governor . Like a mother this is just disgusting. It shouldnt be tolerated. These are not acts of free speech or protest, these are acts of anarchy. They should have been stopped on day one. University administrators should have stopped it but they didnt. When they didnt do it, since they are clearly raking the law, the nypd in new york and others across the country should have been called in right away. This whole area was covered with plywood, trash cans, whatever they could to cobble together this little compound they had set up for their anti israel protest. But Law Enforcement were not having it last night. They launched flares. Some used Flash Bang Type Devices and moved out protesters. Officers wearing swat gear swept in and methodically dismantle the barricades. They moved in on these protesters and clear them out. There were scuffles here and there but again as you can see those protesters were gone. More than 200 were arrested. Still heavy lawenforcement. People are hoping it stays this way, peaceful and calm. Martha. Thank you so much. I am joined now by ucla Professor Mike kaufman who said he was assaulted earlier this week by some protesters. Its good to have you with us. To questions with you, sir, one is to share with us what happened i know you said earlier but for those who didnt hear what happened let us know and also you heard what christina said its common fees peaceful do you think that will last . First of all i want to clarify that a protest is when people peacefully demonstrate for a specific cause, these people were not to mistreating for a specific cause, they were anarchists. They were not in the compound, they would leave the compound, harass, Attack Students pack faculty and anybody that didnt want to align with their view. I was walking giving an interview and walking in the direction of that compound when a couple of big guys did in front of me and block my way when i try to walk around them and another person tackled me from the side. My earpiece flew out. Then they stole it and ran away. You asked what were going to do about it, hope it remains peaceful. Martha yes. You know, thats not up to me or you. The police are the only people that can make law and order in ucla and the police need to have a directive from the civilian government, the chancellor, Vice Chancellors and regent. We have to ask them if theyre going to keep law and order peace so we can have a university again where we teach and learn, or will it be the wild west . Martha at let me ask you personally having spent decades at ucla how do you feel about this moment . Dew you think it is just a moment or do you think that the culture is changing and it can go back . This is not just the moment okay . I teach in the Medical School and i teach medical students and residents. There has been an antisemitic course and curriculum in the school for several years now. Almost two years ago this was brought up to the dean and a letter was written and signed by multiple faculty. To this day they are still teaching that course. Its a course that brought in a previously un incarcerated Homeless Activist is tell students to pray to mama earth. A course that tried to divide students into race groups. Of course that is teaching that use our white colonialists. This is happening today. Martha its a horrible reality that we are living in. Its difficult to figure out how we get from here to there. I dont know how we got here but i think we really need to investigate the money trail and whether there are outside countries and groups that are trying to influence our youth.
