committee will meet to formalize impeachment inquiry into president biden. >> steve: what it means the full house could vote on that as soon as tomorrow. >> ainsley: well, that falls on the same day that lawmakers are demanding that hunter biden testify behind closed doors. >> lawrence: alexandria hoff knows it all. she is in washington with the latest. good morning, alex. >> maybe not all of it but there are a lot of pieces in play. the white house is trying to put to use statements made by republicans who feel there isn't enough evidence to impeach the president. some have changed their minds on that in recent weeks. the way this timeline breaks down is that today the house rules committee is going to consider the resolution that would authorize the impeachment inquiry. tomorrow, house republicans are expected to vote to approve it. mind you, this isn't a vote for impeachment, just to allow for the inquiry and more investigative power into that. tomorrow is the same day that the president's son has been subpoenaed to appear for a deposition. so then if the inquiry is approved, the articles of impeachment could be drafted in the spring of next year. the white house saying this, quote: the most extreme members of the house republican conference are pushing ahead with partisan smear campaign despite the fact evidence of the party evidence to impeach president biden. ranking member democrat jamie raskin has been meeting informally with house republicans hoping to convince them to abandon this impeachment effort. as for hunter biden, he may have been subpoenaed to interview privately tomorrow. but he has only agreed to testify publicly. house republicans have rejected that and if he does not show, the president's son could be held in contempt of congress. that would not be a light addition to his current legal troubles. that includes the 9 new tax charges filed against him by special counsel david weiss. three of those are felonies. he is accused evading about $1.4 million in taxes. he spent millions on cash withdrawals. payments to various women and overall lavish lifestyle. >> steve: very la vish. alex, in talking about jamie raskin the ranking member. it sounds like what he is doing to fox news digital story it. sounds like raskin is talking to some republicans who are leary about voting for an impeachment inquiry and he is showing him stuff turned over by the white house. a lot of republicans are going, you know, i never got that from james comer. i wonder why? >> yeah. i think there are republicans some of them who have been hesitant from the first place. they see trouble seeing how all of this fits together. we have seen bits and pieces come out from congressman comer. jamie raskin is hoping to enlighten them. saying a different kind of timeline. we will see if any minds have changed. there were several. we have heard from republicans before who said they were not confident that is enough evidence for impeachment. >> brian: right. thanks, alex. the thing is, too. there is inquiry and impeachment. to ho would ever stop an investigation now without trying to find out why he set up shell companies what eric schwerin had to say about the finances, how joe related to hunter and the interaction between them and making sure your dad paid some of this and paid some of that who would ever not want to find out what was the income from china, kazakhstan as well as ukraine and the moscow mayor? who wouldn't want to put these pieces together. and why wouldn't the white house cooperate? why do you need jamie raskin to whisper behind closed doors if you want to be transparent come out and say i have a counter narrative. >> ainsley: this is just an inquiry. not a vote. look into see if anything was done wrong. jamie raskin going, in what does it tell you? it tells me they are worried about this. the democrats are worried. they are sending in a guy who is friends with both sides ever the aisle. he is apparently pledging or pleading with his republicans friends please don't go forward with this. they are also defending -- you mentioned the fact sheet. the things they are handing over to say hey, republicans, did you know this in the reason he fired shokin. remember that was all over the press he? was bragging about firing the prosecutor in ukraine? and he said if you don't fire him, i'm going to withhold $1 billion in aid? they are defending the firing of that they are defending the biden administration's banks and private citizens for cooperating with the investigation and focusing. >> lawrence: i find it hysterical they are using someone who led the last impeachment. we are not talking about someone who is bipartisan. >> brian: right. >> lawrence: he brought a failed impeachment that it had absolutely no evidence. this was the second one. and somehow is he supposed to be the person to unify the country? i think there is a lot of americans saying why the double standard here? and. >> brian: he doesn't want to unify the country. is he looking to say don't go do this. and the thing is, too. it's kind of a i have been are. you oftentimes can get -- it's like putting a jet pack, which i still inspire to get one on your back for an election. look you how clinton was fueled by that impeachment. look how trump with the ukrainian phone call ended up working for him for the re-election. so, jamie raskin should say if there is nothing here, have at it. >> steve: here's the thing. in september e kevin mccarthy had promised a similar vote. we're going to have impeachment inquiry vote. he back tracked because of the opposition because of a lot of centrist and those 18 republicans in biden districts. so that never happened. so, mike johnson has got to, you know, to avoid a face plant. what he needs to do. he has only got three vote margin for error. according to politico, there is still half a dozen members, republicans, in biden districts uneasy about supporting. brian fitzpatrick, who used to be an fbi agent. not on board. he says he wants to talk to comer and jordan and one republican for sure. ken buck of colorado had said i'm not going to do it. given the fact that there are 18 moderate republicans in biden districts. you wonder why only six are left. because, to the point about, brian, you were talking and it's different articles of impeachment, different it from inquiry. what they're saying is let's have the inquiry so we can get more stuff from the white house. and that's why jamie raskin is circulating this stuff from the white house. you want this stuff? it's already out there. that's what he is saying. >> ainsley: let's talk about 2024. it's interesting. you mentioned this yesterday that trump is doing better in battleground states. >> brian: cnn poll broke right before we came on. >> ainsley: we have the numbers for you. >> brian: stunning. >> ainsley: trump has the upper hand in michigan and georgia. this is georgia. look at this. lawrence, what do you think? >> lawrence: honestly, i'm not surprised at all. >> ainsley: why is that? >> lawrence: you look at the state of the country. we have been going back and forth measuring the 3450d of the people. >> brian: you have been in georgia. >> lawrence: twice. been in airports, talking with people. wig segment of the plaque population in georgia as well. business community, modern day black wall street there that may not like trump's tone and tenor on a day-to-day basis. appreciated the tax cuts. businesses were surging. it's just not the case right now in america. so i think the democrats have a huge problem. and i think the reason why these polls are starting to hit back to back is there's going to be a pressure on the administration to let joe go away. >> brian: you think so? you think they want this out there? >> lawrence: they want it out. they want the margin -- i think it's closer than. this as it gets closer going to come in. but, right now, it shows the tone and the feeling of the american people that they want someone else. >> steve: when you look at the state of michigan. let's go up to michigan right now. and it is 40% for joe biden. and 50% for donald trump. >> ainsley: that's massive. >> steve: it is massive. what is interesting about that is according to cnn, 10% of -- 40 and 50 adds up to 90. what's the other 10% say? 10% say they won't support either. so the question is would they vote for the other or would they simply not vote? >> brian: the independents are the key to that one, too. and they are swinging heavily to trump. trump lost five states to biden that he won against hillary clinton. all five are going his direction. also, i think that georgia, that jim crow 2.0 was a total b.s. >> lawrence: they lost businesses there. >> brian: there was nothing wrong with that reform. if you look at what happened when president biden went down there. they found out they want to rein in some drop boxes and change hours on a sunday. and you s kemp trounce stacey abrams maybe this is not tilting blue. we will see what happens? >> ainsley: what happened in michigan. joe biden won by a larger margin than donald trump in 2020. there is a 10% difference and now they like trump. >> lawrence: there is a two pronged approach. to your point, steve, it is the economy. a lot of the muslim population that are upset with the way the president is handling the israeli war. so he is getting hit by both sides. this is why you got to take a stance. you can't try to serve both sides. you got to let the american people know where you stand on the issue. so he is getting hit. >> brian: good news for mike rogers running for the senate seat there. >> steve: i was thinking this morning, driving. in i was thinking given the fact that trump is so far ahead on the republican side for the primary, and given the poll we talked about yesterday, where nikki haley actually trounces in a landslide joe biden by, what, 17 points, wouldn't it be interesting if donald trump becomes the nominee, nikki haley runs as the third party because then, you know, she, no labels has said they want a republican to be the presidential nominee. but can you imagine nikki haley vs. donald trump and joe biden. >> lawrence: it would never happen. she is a true republican. she would never go against the party. >> ainsley: she would wait in the wings until it's her turn. >> steve: never. >> brian: i know what ainsley is thinking i should have went with the solid ty. >> lawrence: i was going to compliment. >> ainsley: you stand out. we are all in solids. >> brian: this is very 1990s. >> lawrence: great thing about being the face of the show is you can do what you want?
