three are felonies, brought to you by special counsel david weiss yesterday. >> ainsley: david weiss writing the defendant spent on drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental property, exotic cars and other items of personal nature, in short, everything but his taxes. >> brian: hunter avoided paying taxes for a four-year period. president biden continues to deny any dealings with his bus businesses. >> he is saying i did not have interactions with those people. it did not work for clinton and it is more insulting here. >> brian: hunter faces 17 years in prison on charges. i get the sense this investigation is not over yet. >> lawrence: this is just the beginning, let's bring in sol wiseman. the indictment is extensive and average americans are saying, what took so long? why did it take five years to get to this point? >> this indictment is devastating indictment and complete vindication of the privates. there is no reason this indictment couldn't have been brought a year ago or two years ago. remember, the whistleblowers had to fight to get this investigation continued and if not for the judge in the federal delaware courtroom, that hinky plea deal would have gone down. she did her job and stoppeds this from happening. from a criminal defense perspective, from a white collar crime perspective, the defense attorneys for hunter biden got too greedy and it blew up. big mistake how they handled this case. >> ainsley: could hunter's lawyers avoid this being deposed in front of house oversight next week? >> he could take the fifth amendment, they are trying to avoid that. there is no legal extra legal reason this indictment gives them. it might be good pr reason to say, he's been indicting in a 57-page indictment and we're going to as protective measure, take the fifth amendment, wouldn't have done this if he hadn't been indicted. it changes nothing. he could plead the fifth amendment. >> brian: you have to probe his business, no way they probed all the businesses, there were millions in transactions, how aggressive will they pursue to find out what he was doing? there is no charge of -- no fara charge acting as foreign agent not registered in this indictment. why wouldn't you find out how much they earned? >> well, it is different, fara is a different crime and it is very clear delaware was not interested in going beyond the tax charges here. they were -- it is clear assistant u.s. attorney told agents we're not looking into anything related to joe biden. they wouldn't even let them find out if joe biden was really sitting next to hunter biden at time he told a chinese associate i'm sitting here with my father. you wouldn't have to notify the press or anybody to do that temperature is just not something they pursued. i think it is unlikely we will see that from this investigation. >> lawrence: why is there not any curiosity? the reason i ask, this detailed indictment shows all the money he's making and they tell you where the money is coming from. they put in the indictment that all these business charges he's expensing are not business charges, he was not doing business when doing travel. people he's paying money to are not his business associates, why isn't there curiosity? then to say, why is he being paid? what is his job? what interest, if the guy is not doing any work, why is money coming into his account? >> the indictment in the beginning and depends what tax year you are talking about, the beginning talks about money coming from ukrainian sources and chinese sources, it spends more time talking about the unsavory things hunter biden spent his money on and didn't appropriately talk about on his tax return. they spend more time talking about that sexy kind of stuff and not much time talking about the foreign business dealings. we know from the whistleblowers, they were not interested in looking at anything that was connection to joe biden. >> ainsley: president trump will testify next week in his new york fraud trial, supposed to take the stand and the trial will end in january. david axelrod was asking what is happening to hunter biden and donald trump and he said it will make campaign season very messy, listen to this. there will be major effort to depict these as politically motivated charges. it is ironic, you see both sides trying to do that. this serves donald trump's purposes because he'd love to muddy the water and suggest the system is a swamp and point fingers in different directions, it is just one more thing that will make it a messy, messy campaign. >> ainsley: you think it is politically motivated on both sides? >> i don't think there is any question it is politically motivated, you have attorney general who campaigned ongoing after donald trump and i think that hunter's lawyers have said the prosecution of hunter is politically motivated, i would say the opposite. the sweetheart plea deal was politically motivated and they are doing what they could have done months or years ago. >> brian: how would you characterize defense of donald trump knowing the judge ruled against him for fraud, roughly $250 million, they say they will take from him. he puts his defense on tomorrow and next week he will hit the stand. how is he doing? >> keep in mind, i'm not license in new york and not a new york civil attorney, but i think he got a break from the appellate division yesterday when they said wait a minute, we're not dissolving his businesses yet, which is what the trial judge engoron wanted to do. that is very good they stayed that. from the evidence i've seen reported, even assuming there were for alls falsehoods on the material, they were not -- with the people giving him the money. they put somebody on the other day from doueutsche bank. >> lawrence: it is clear this judge doesn't know real estate and basic business, from the read outs we are getting from the courtroom. sol, thank you. >> thanks for having me. >> ainsley: have a good weekend. >> lawrence: headlines with carley shimkus. >> carley: we have a "fox and friends first"ed, san diego police officer is in serious condition after being shot in a parking lot of a supermarket. officers fired back hitting one suspect who reportedly died, that supermarket at fours common town center will remain closed until this afternoon. to another fox news alert, putin is running for reelection as president of russia. state media reporting that this morning after months of speculation amid war in ukraine. the 71-year-old has been in power since the year 2000 and plans to seek six more years in office. the election will take place next year. a woman is behind bars this morning, accused of trying to burn down martin luther king jr.'s childhood home in atlanta. two off-duty police officers vacationing in the city saw the woman pouring fuel on the home and stop her in the middle of the act. she has been charged with arson. if the witnesses did not step in, the house would have burned to the ground. new england patriots using three touchdowns to take down the steelers. third win for patriots all season. this one actually hurts new england chance for top draft spot next year as bears who own carolina pick have a two-game lead for the coveted prize. those are headlines, thankfully that is over because i have to cough. i know we've all been there. >> ainsley: we have water and teahere. >> carley: all the supplies. >> lawrence: one time i got the hiccups. >> carley: have you ever had to sneeze on air. >> lawrence: not sneeze. >> carley: the worst is a cough, all eyes on me. >> lawrence: we would have stepped in. >> brian: toss over and make it seem natural. now i like to go to my colleague for more. >> carley: i should have done that. i know next time. thank you. >> ainsley: depending topic, brian, will you take the sports ones? >> it's becoming the norm because the political establishment in l.a. embraced the idea of reforming criminal justice system. they don't care about the public safety. prime example, with defunding third less deputies in patrol. every patrol including malibu has more than 30% vacancy, less cops on the street, more crooks, free to do things like this abhorrent behavior like this fool right here. >> lawrence: who are these people? i go to l.a., at venice beach, i see people applauding you, you got homelessness off the street. people are tired of the violence on the street and you then you don't get re-elected. what is the electorate in l.a.?
