pounds were seized and that it just takes a ci a citizeny bif this. do you think confidence in ability to crack down. >> yeah it. will be difficult to accept that without any evidence supporting it in light of how it is advantageous to china to manufacture this fentanyl that's flowing across the border because of our border policies. it works out pretty well for them. so, whether they would do anything to fix that is really in dispute. the relationship between china and the u.s. clearly economically intertwined. janet yellen has said she would like to deepen the economic relationship. a lot of americans feel that this is an adversarial relationship that we should be in some manner decoupling or preparing for a type of cold war where we take seriously how adversarial china is. the biden it's difficult seeing him lead the country where it needs to be given his own personal family relationship there. >> shannon: one of the other readouts that came talking how tough president biden was that, you know, since president biden last met with president xi, i think it was in bali about a year ago. you have had that spy balloon floating over the united states. that certainly wasn't the lovely gesture from the chinese. and then, of course, you have had warships near taiwan off the strait of taiwan, nancy pelosi did go and visit and sort of violated what china viewed as proper that you can't have communications. well, now apparently today, they have restored some kind of red hotline communication between chinese military and u.s. military. overall, it seems like this was a good summit. we had very low expectations. but, if you think about that, if you think about the climate deals that they say they are going to do, i don't know. but, you think about that, the tough one was a.i. and the nuclear armaments because, clearly, the united states doesn't want chinese artificial intelligence firing off at us and someone saying there was a mistake. so we're going to cut back on our use of artificial intelligence. some people think maybe we shouldn't make that kind of concession. >> shannon: sounds like they have decided there is more to discuss. they are not ready to come expectations low considering it's been a year since they did speak and that they were together. but taiwan was on the agenda as something that president biden wanted to tackle. but, also, as juan was saying, just opening up those lines of communication that haven't been there before and potentially making headway on fentanyl and it sounds like there was perhaps some movement in that area. >>
