you remember the spy balloon. >> jacqui: i sure do. who could forget it, brian. you know, it's funny, this is going to be surely a topic of conversation between the two leaders. but they are not going to preview that issue specifically. and i will get into why. the u.s. and china don't have military-to-military communications right now because of these wars that are ongoing in ukraine, the middle east. you got a budding relationship between north korea and russia and continued tensions in the indo-pacific. the biggest priority for this administration is to restore military-to-military communications. you often hear officials talk about the need to maintain stability and keep open lines of communication. that is what they are referring to. we don't often noe hereby them put it as bluntly as they did when we just spoke to them which is that china has resisted multiple calls from this administration to get those talks back online. the biden administration often points to the spy balloon as a good example of why those communications are necessary. but it's also why we are getting answers like this from the white house podium. listen. >> you want china to apologize? >> again, i'm going to let president biden speak to president xi. i'm not going to stand here from the podium and kind of create threats or raise questions or make particular demands because i think that will not be the most effective way to secure the diplomatic outcomes the american people are looking for. >> jacqui: biden's critics have pushed for him to take a harder line against china. site incident electric coercion. threat, taiwan strait and other things. biden's approach is going to continue to be quieter. the administration believes that china is alarmed at the relative strength of the u.s. economy compared it with the rest of the world and also own economy especially post covid and efforts to bring technology and manufacturing back away from china and deepening alliances with partners in the region they say have rattled the chinese. also think that china's economy much worse shape than they let on. listen to what biden said in september. >> i think china has a difficult economic problem right now for a whole range of reasons. i don't think it's going to cause china to invade taiwan. as a matter of fact, the opposite. probably doesn't have the same capacity that it had before. >> jacqui: so china is broadcasting its participation in this summit as a way to basically tell the world it is open for business. we don't expect many big deliverables out of this. but the administration sees restoring communications and stabilizing this relationship as very significant, guys. >> steve: and, jackie, i know it's dark out there although our san francisco it's already daylight behind us, does the town seem cleaner because famously, they cleaned everything up because we have got all these world leaders heading your way. >> oh, yeah. it's definitely cleaner. even between quled and today. somehow the scent of urine has gone away. cleaned up significantly. >> ainsley: interestingly how they can do that so quickly for world leaders. >> jacqui: when they want to, yeah. >> steve: and you said a moment ago don't expect many deliverables. what about the fentanyl thing sounds like china is going to crack down on the sufficient to make it so it doesn't continue to come through mexico that would give joe biden a win. >> jacqui: yeah, that's definitely on the list of discussion points. you have got fentanyl, artificial intelligence, a number of things that they're going to raise. it's these thornier issues about, you know, how the u.s. and china are going to compete and keep their competition from veering into conflicts that's going to probably represent the stickiest part of that conversation because, when you have, you know, the military aggression we have seen from the chinese and the taiwan straight, they are buzzing our naval assets for instance and we are not responding. there is a lot of pressure on the administration to take a heard line. and so far they have resisted that. the president took a lot of criticism for letting the spy balloon traverse the entire u.s. before knocking it down. so, they point to, you know, the need for military-to-military communications because you have got all of these ongoing wars and they also want to lean on the chinese to pressure iran to stop from widening the war in the middle east. that's going to be another big priority of the administration. but we will see where it goes from here. i mean, the chinese really are here to say they are open for business. the administration thinks that's because their economy is in a weak place and that gives us a strategic advantage as the united states. of course, we will see there are plenty of critics who say that the chinese are only going to respond to peace through strength and they want the president to bring that. >> brian: all right, jacqui. >> lawrence: is the administration making it clear what the consequence is going to be if they don't supplying the materials. you know, famously, the trump administration saying hey, if you don't could this, then there are going to be tariffs. if you don't do this, then i'm going to strike this target. what is the administration is saying they are going to do if china doesn't get on board? >> jacqui: we haven't heard any threats about, you know, where things would go if we didn't get the response we are asking for. we also know that there likely is not going to be any tariffs relief, at least that was not something that was forecast. and that's something that china has been asking for. so, the way that they see it, that's them continuing to keep their thumb on the scale. this administration, often as we have seen with many other conflicts, works through, you know, sanctions and economic kinds of pressure over something more overt. whether or not that achieves the end goal, of course, is up for debate. you've got people on both sides of the aisle who say different things how effective or not that has been. but we don't think that there is going to be anything in the way of tariffs. >> brian: thank you, jacqui,. >> steve: she is joining us from san francisco which sounds like lysol. >> brian: i don't like the smelling of lysol it means my dog isn't trained. pine sole, pine sole is worse. >> ainsley: no better. >> brian: really. >> ainsley: smells like christmas. >> brian: meeting with the mexican president, too. >> ainsley: that's friday. >> brian: important to bring up. it's going to be interesting. one thing about china they don't follow through with anything. whether it's grain purchases, soybean purchases, whether it's following through on the lack of the -- lack of interdictions, with the feel philippines, they could say one thing and do another unless there is some leverage to your point. but it's going to be interesting to see what happens at this summit because we really begged for it. we sent every official over there. we wanted them to show up. and as weak as china is, they view us as weak and in chaos. the whole speaker thing, they look at more evidence of chaos. the way we left afghanistan, more evidence of chaos. and now they have stopped, which i find interesting, buying our debt to a great deal. and we got a lot of it. >> lawrence: brian, to your point of begging, the folks of san francisco have been begging their lords to clean up the city. do something. >> steve: get out the pine sole. >> lawrence: do something, all of a sudden they decided to clean it up because of the world leaders being in town. hillary vaughn asked jake sullivan about that yesterday, watch. >> jacqui: i know folks are saying oh they are just cleaning up this place because he is all those fancy leaders are coming to town that's true. does president biden agree it's more important to impress the leader of china than the american people that live in san francisco and pay taxes every day? >> well, to put it simply by the numbers, at the end of the trump administration, 15, 20,000 per month we were down there in april or so of '21. it had jumped from 60 to 70,000. there wasn't a term got-aways at that time simply overwhelming. you got a couple hundred thousand across the four states and it was interesting. they said fewer percentage wise are coming through texas. because they are doing something. the other three states, california, arizona, new mexico, have sympathetic policies, so they are going there. but we are up to 200,000 a month, with 60,000 got-aways. this town of eagle pass, 28,000 penal are now confronting 3,000 to 4,000 people daily. it's swamping the system. the resources, they are frustrated. and when i got the call from our indiana sheriff's association, that they're going down there, 24 sheriffs over 92 counties, because it's impacting every place across the country. it was an eye opener to just listen to them. there is no law enforcement. it's basically triage, somebody from the florida state police was there. that morning, had to jump off the boat to save a toddler that was going to drown, that's the kind of stuff they are doing. and it just simply the biden open border, since then has caused all. this. >> lawrence: yeah, senator, some people are worried about the implications to our national security now that we have this fight that's going on with iran. we know the war that's happening right now in the middle east. a lot of folks are concerned about how many people are on this terror watch list that we did not catch, that are in those got-aways. senator, i want to get your comment on this $6 billion now, that the administration is planning on investing into climate change. how bad is that for the american people and what type of regulations are we going to see new from this white house? >> first of all, they call it an investment. i call testify penny of that will be borrowed. okay? i'm on the budget committee. which we haven't done budgets since i have been here in five years. haven't done one since the late 1990s that we have actually stuck. to say it's another example. we don't talk about budget mechanics, we don't talking about reigning it in on the budget committee it's climate. some woke issue one after another. it's another example where they have lost focus. i think the american people are going to hold accountable not only the budget mess that we're confronting but focus on issues like this when you have got the border. you have got a bad economy. look at the peace and prosperity we had pro-covid. look how well things were working. get off of these issues. start attending to the real ones. >> lawrence: yeah, so, senator, i'm so glad that you brought up budget. and there was such this push to return to regular order to make sure that we do the necessary cuts. are we heading down to another government shutdown? it looks like there is a split amongst the ranks of the cuts vs. just passing another c.r. what do you see happening here? >> it's the same old, same old. i mean, i come from the world of running a small business that grew into a larger one over time. you could never get by with that in a state legislature that did regular order. we got our budget done in three and a half months. the fact is the leaders here like it when you back it into a corner with no transparency. last time it was 4100 pages delivered with two days to read it at 1:40 in the morning. a broken system. sadly, it's going to take us into something like a chapter 11 some day, and look at the cost of interest. we were 33 trillion in debt. now 18 when i got here. do the math. it's going to be a disaster. >> lawrence: senator, i take it that the folks that voted for that bill, that was not enough time to read the entire bill, right? is it just their presence at a parade that's known for wholesome family activity? meas' inclusion of nonbinary transgender character in a parade is just another example of an ideological war that's being waged on families and customers are saying they have had enough. but it seems that corporate brands that were once trusted still aren't getting the message. you are seeing parents stand up, rise up and say we are going to parent. and we expect our family friendly events to truly be family friendly and not teach our children values that we object. to say. >> brian: kristen, what do you say to people who say you got to be tolerant to all inclusive to all. >> all about tolerance and inclusivity. what that means is it shouldn't be corporate brands waging propaganda on our children. right now we are seeing in the entertainment industry at disney's hands as well as even in our school system we are seeing propaganda being waged that plays out in secret transitions being facilitated without parents' knowledge. we are seeing curriculum and books that are being used in classrooms designed to confuse children about who they are and who god created them to be. so, i think, again, it's an issue of parents saying we're here to parent and this ideology isn't just existing in a theory or a vacuum. it's playing out on the ground. it's very destructive. >> brian: kristen, one talk about societal and then there is box office. you referenced it. the marvel movie rolls out and done absolutely terrible and one of those message movies. political correctness and the transgender element to it. in a game that used to be about -- in a series that used to be super heroes. avengers end game for example big success, $357 million. the marvels rolls out 47 million. an epic flop. do you think this backs up your theory?
