on this morntiond november 13th, 2023. we start with a fox news alert. south carolina senator tim scott officially announced last night on our air that he will drop out of the 2024 presidential race. the former republican candidate breaking the news last night right here on fox with trey. >> but when i go back to iowa, it will not be as a presidential candidate. i am suspending my campaign. >> steve: nobody saw that coming. scott says he has no plans to endorse another candidate at this time. >> ainsley: meanwhile, big breaking news overseas at least six iranian fighters are dead after the u.s. targeted two sites in eastern syria overnight. this is the third set of u.s. airstrikes targeting iranian proxies in eastern syria over the last two and a half weeks. >> lawrence: ainsley, these airstrikes are in retaliation for the 48 attacks on our troops in iraq and syria since october. brian is over at the map to lay it all out for us, brian. what can you tell us on the map? >> brian: take a look at this man. 46 attacks on our men and women in uniform. take a look. you are talking about 2500 here in iraq and about 900 here. and they basically sit there and duck and cover. you have a lot of guys with some head injuries from the conclusion of the strikes and from the missile defense knocking these strikes out of the air. but, if you look at these strikes, look at this, some 14 hits in iraq, another five here in iraq. you have the one here, another five here in iraq. but we have chosen -- i don't know if it's a deal with baghdad or not, not to hit back any place but syria. the most substantial strikes are the last two strikes. six or seven people died. we are able to surveil this for a while. first, it was here. just an empty facility. they say full of weapons. they did notice here secondary explosion, which shows they got a weapons depot and they got some militia members. but the question is after we hit back for a second time last thursday, we got hit back with four more attacks and on sunday we hit back twice. the question is has iran gotten the message yet? more than likely the answer is not. we bring more assets in. we show them the fire power we have and the attacks continue. they say it is just the resistance militia that have combined to go against outside sources. we went out of our way to say this has nothing to do with israel and hamas' attack on israel's reprisals. i have news for you. it has everything to do with israel. there was also a situation -- there was also a situation here when you look at the fact that we were in baghdad and we have this meeting last week with the secretary of state, we have 14 hits on our biggest base and we have yet to answer for that missile defense, guys, is not going to be the only answer. we have to show a toughness and a rigger. we have to stop qualifying every attack with we don't want a war. we know we don't want a war. we never wanted a war. israel didn't want a war. enemies have a say in this. strength is hopefully we fight back. sandy more substantial message. they seem to love the distraction of america hitting. >> ainsley: they have attacked us almost 50 times. we have attacked them three? >> brian: yeah, three times this last -- two separate strikes. this is the first time there has been casualties that we know of. >> steve: all right. on this monday morning, let's bring in retired u.s. army colonel darren dowd. he was a black hawk helicopter pilot and battalion commander in the middle east, easy for me to say. he joins us rights now. >> colonel, good morning to you. >> good morning, everybody. pleasure to see you. >> steve: it's great to have you. it sounds like this place was apparently a training camp and a safe house that they hit overnight our time. it was apparently a headquarters for some of these iranian aligned groups. they had to know we were coming, didn't they? >> oh, of course. they will continue to take these odds all day long. already been mentioned on here. they hit us nearly 50 times and we have retaliated three times. once against an empty camp. the message that iran is hearing is for them to keep going. >> lawrence: you know, lt. colonel, when we talk about the brain injuries, these tbis that our soldiers are getting, we are handing them out like they are cookies right now as if it's not going to have some sort of impact. my fear is that this is going to escalate to the death of our soldiers. what should be the response from the biden administration right now? >> yeah, right now the response needs to be basically that wherever these attacks come from, we need to turn them into a parking lot. the message that has to be that we are actually responding from a position of strength and that iran is going to pay a heavy price, much heavier price than anticipated for anything they do against us. of the message that needs to be heard again is strength. that's all they know in this region, really is full force. and we have to speak it better than them. >> ainsley: sir, we wanted to get your reaction to this because you are a retired u.s. army black hawk helicopter pilot and one of our pilots or five of our men went down in this helicopter crash, i assume they are men. during this training exercise in the mediterranean sea on friday. they are saying that the helicopter suffered a mishap and crashed during routine air refueling mission. mh 60 black hawk helicopter and on board u.s. army special operations forces. your reaction. tell us what you think might have happened. >> yeah. the possibilities here are almost endless. there is no such thing as a routine mid-air refueling mission using a black hawk helicopter. these are some challenging environments, especially at night. you don't know what the winds are you don't know the circumstances. investigation into this is going to take some time. we need to give them that time to figure out what the real facts are i don't like the idea of calling things like this, though, just routine. and the word mishap means really we don't know yet. that's an accurate statement and best to just let them go through the investigation process. sometimes there take months. so i will be curious to see what those results are as well. in the meantime, of course, we need to make sure that we mourn for the loss and we recognize the service of those who died. >> brian: if i can just pivot a little bit. last week became word that we have special ops on the ground, it seems, helping to get our hostages out of gaza. >> how too do we approach that mission knowing the casualties not only cost our men and women their lives but be a disaster diplomatically around the world? what do you think our guys are doing? how do they work with the idf? >> well, first of all, we know they went there under an advisory assignment, so they're helping the idf with the process of how to do this intelligence and various things as well. the idf is extremely well trained and capable of handling this mission. we just need to be there to back up our ally and help them hopefully successfully recover as many hostages as possible. direct engagement and whether they are on the ground in gaza assisting them, that wouldn't surprise me. but, i think it's one of those things that if it is happening, that we would never really talk about, of course, on the air but i hope they are there in some ways, at least in that advisory capacity and being very effective with them we can get these hostages recovered. >> brian: one of the hostages a 3-year-old boy whose parents were killed. how do you process that? >> well, yeah. that's a h hard one. kids don't always understand what truly happened. you just have to get around those children and hold them close. and hope that you can just do your best. >> lawrence: real quickly, lt. colonel, explain to your audience, our door kickers, special forces have been working idf for years. they trained them with the capabilities, hostage rescue. they have been doing that for a while. explain the relationship there they have kind of been on the ground for a while now. >> yeah. one of the things about our special forces is that their primary mission is to educate and train other nation's forces in order to make them better. our special forces are often not directly engaged because they want to make sure that the host nation special forces and other people that they train are ready to do the job themselves. that's the relationship the special forces has around the world. regardless of the military and what nation they come from. and, israeli defense forces though are one of those that are uniquely talented and gifted in this region. and i would trust them with these missions inherently. >> lawrence: some of the best in h.r. hostage rescue. hopefully they can get our people back. lt. colonel, thank you so much for joining the program this morning. >> thank you. >> ainsley: i wonder what the chances are i think special ops, i think of all the movies that we have watched. they are going to go in and rescue. >> lawrence: the problem right now a lot of our special opsz operate on secrecy as well as surprise. and that was -- that's gone now. and so, that's going to be the hhard part. idf guys have been doing this for a while. some of the best in the world at this. i have full confidence they can handle this mission. i think our guys should continue to advise and support them. give them the resources they need. i have have full full confidence trained with them before. they know what they're doing some of the best of it. steve the element of surprise is gone because the bad guys can expect somebody knocking the door down at any time. speaking of surprise. >> brian: speaking of 2024. what wasn't a surprise who tim scott made the announcement to. >> steve: this came out of nowhere. tim scott has suspended his campaign running for president. according to politico, the news came as a shock to his own staff. he did not give them a heads up before he said it on live tv. he had canceled a swing through iowa over the weekend. he said he had the flu. next thing you know he pops up on sunday night in america with trey gowdy. >> ainsley: one of his best friends. >> steve: and called it quits. here's tim. >> one of the things i would recommend to every single american and i know it's not possible by the way, if you ever want to love your country more, run for president. traveling this country, meeting people has been one of the most fantastic experiences of my entire life. i love america more today than i did on may 22nd. but, when i go back to iowa, it will not be as a presidential candidate. i am suspending my campaign. i think the voters who are the most remarkable people on the planet, have been really clear that they are telling me not now, tim. i don't think they are saying, trey, no. but i think they do saying not now. so i'm going to respect the voters and i'm going to hold on and keep working really hard and look forward to another opportunity. >> ainsley: he is bee loved down in the state i grew up in, south carolina. and we were thinking he would stay in the race until the primary in south carolina. we wanted to see if nikki haley, who is also from south carolina, obviously. she was our former governor. he said he is not going tone doors anybody. he wants to wait until the voters can decide. he said he is not interested in being vice president. that's not on his to-do list. he did struggle to rise up in the polls and he nearly didn't qualify for that third debate. one article i was reading talked to some of his donors and two of his big donors now say they are going to switch their money to nikki haley now. >> yeah, here's the quote. in the moments after scott dropped out two major donors to his campaign told reuters they would switch their support to nikki haley who like scott, hails from the state of south carolina. they won't go to the former president. the one thing about president trump is i don't think he has ever said anything bad about tim scott. surprised timmy got in. you could tell that if there was something there, i'm sure tim scott would more than consider it. i would think it is donors and the fact that has been in single digits almost every single poll. >> lawrence: he has a lot of money though. >> steve: after he sent fundraising notice one last chance. big problem for him ultimately, ainsley, you made the point. with the last debate in miami. he just made it into the debate stage by 1%. the next one in early december in alabama, you have got to be at 6%. he has not been close to that for a while. and so, you know what? saw the writing on the wall and called it quits. >> ainsley: he was hesitant to talk about his personal life. his dating life. >> steve: until wednesday. >> ainsley: he was asked. he said yes, i do have a girlfriend. people wanted to get to know him a little bit more. and that was just a few weeks ago. and then he brought her out on the debate stage. and then "saturday night live," someone sent me a clip of the monologue, the beginning and he was saying it was the debate thought of you. he said i'm tim scott and i have a girlfriend. did you know i had a girlfriend? >> brian: yeah. >> lawrence: i think he is aspirational guy. i love his story. he talked about the greatness of america. as i mentioned with the other candidates is it the message at this time in america do the voters want that i don't think there has anyone who has said a negative word about tim scott. he raises the most money out of any of them. they love him. they don't want him to be president right now, brian. >> brian: very into his bio. enterprising zones he came up with the president. other thing is he worked on tax reform. he also did police reform. he rarely talked about that. but the substance is there he goes deep on a lot of the issues. >> lawrence: that's -- i'm glad you brought that up, brian. he worked on police reform and he told the democrats, look, i will give you any amendment that you want on the floor, we can debate this out. we just want to get it done. and the democrats would not work with him at the end of the day on the issue that they safe that matters. >> ainsley: he can hold on to his money, right if he decides to run again. he said his voters are saying they are not saying no they are saying not right now. >> brian: he is not disappointed with his girlfriend. >> ainsley: can you give it to someone else's campaign but he will hold on. >> steve: for political purposes. >> ainsley: he is so nice. and he always quotes scripture. i'm wondering if america just thinks after donald trump we need more of a fighter? >> brian: how about governor temperature gum? does he stay in he didn't make the debate stage. >> steve: it is going to cost him more than that $20 gift card. >> lawrence: pressure on the candidates that tim scott has this war chest and has all this approval rating is out of the roof. >> ainsley: no one can say bad word about him. >> lawrence: if he is getting out of the race, a lot of pressure guys still in. >> steve: talking about this last week after the primary and looking forward and after the debate as well, you know, you got nikki haley and you got ron desantis. they are by far the -- well, donald trump way ahead. and then behind him those two. and then the other three down below. one has dropped out. the pressure now is on the other two. what is chris christie going to do. >> in florida the poll came out of the university of northern florida, governor desantis trails trump by 31 points in florida. it reminds me of rubio that said get me to florida i will beat jeb bush got to florida and lost to donald trump. the most interesting we did the he said tim scott strikes me as a good dude. i gave tim scott a congratulatory on the stage when the others copied what he said. >> steve: taking a shot. can't let it go. >> lawrence: to your point though, brian, the danger for governor desantis and other candidates don't have this issue because they are not currently running the state, the last thing you want to do is to lose in your own state. because, if you do lose in your home state, it destroys your political capital. they are going to have to make. >> brian: probably not going to have a super tuesday if you lose in south carolina. >> ainsley: might be an exception in this case if ron desantis loses to trump. trump is so high. maybe the next go around desantis could run again and be fine. >> steve: well, one is out so it begins again today. we are going to have the current governor of the great state of arkansas governor sarah huckabee sanders with us at 8:30. of course, she endorsed donald trump last week at an event that we told you about right here on "fox & friends." >> brian: the president had thousands, tens of thousands who showed up at his big event to counter the last debate. >> ainsley: still ahead, hard to believe. today marks one year since four idaho students were killed in their house. how the university is honoring the victims and where the case stands against the suspect. >> steve: plus, brutal cold weather, no jobs, no shelter, migrants from south america and central america who went to chicago are now fleeing back to their home country. >> brian: no joke. >> steve: they don't like it. putting out migrants and at risk. >> brian: called the windy city for a reason. type 2 diabetes? discover the ozempic® tri-zone. ♪ ♪ i got the power of 3. i
