>> yes this latest conflict does seem to have produced an outpouring of hostility toward israel which is really unmatched from any previous period on many campuses we have seen really shocking apologist essentially for hamas terrorism, students who seem to confuse what might be considered legitimate resistance for terrorism and in many cases going beyond peaceful protest but actually harassing, threatening and engaging in other kinds of behavior which makes other students particular jewish students feel really insecure. there has been a strong sense among many jewish students on my campus and others of feeling under seizure. there's been some of that sentiment before but i think this is really brought it to much greater heights than ever before. eric: what is wrong with some these people? seriously what's wrong with them? where have they been taught question requires their ethics? where is their there balance wn been protesting for the nazis during world war ii? supporting terrorists? i have heard calls and some of these rallies to kill more jews. where have we gone off the tracks when people on our college campuses say these type of things? >> i think in some ways it is a reflection of a broader discourse on the far left which really sees the conflict between israel and the palace scenes in a simplified black and white terms where italy is the suppressors zionism is a movement of colonialism the palestinians and therefore the innocent victims on according to these binary frame anything the palestinians do is legitimate resistance anything the israelis do is automatically wrong. i do not think that's unique to college campuses we have seen the same expressed around the world actually buy those on the far left. i think in many ways the students on college campuses which is a small minority, many aren't taking college courses i don't see them teach a course on the israeli palestinians in the student to take those classes are much more thoughtful and nuanced from the undersigned with the conflict is other than the students who don't take the classes who think they know already who are expressing these very one sided sentiments pickwick some seem so ignorant completely ignorant of the facts in the history. they talk about free palestine don't they know in gaza they israel withdrew there is no occupation in gaza it is hamas doing this. >> they certainly do not have a very sophisticated view of the conflict. it's partly because so many students today get their news and information from social media and so obviously in doing so they do not have an understanding of the history of the conflict many simply believe it began with the israeli occupation not knowing it long predates that. they don't really know about hamas as an organization instantly what hamas seeks to do there is an equation of hamas but the palestinian cause and therefore in sympathy with the palestinian cause some students feel they also need to defend hamas actions. it's important to note many of the students out there protesting her not protesting in support of hamas they are protesting or demonstrating in support of the palestinians and it opposition to israel. sometimes there is a confusion and these are protest is to what they are calling for. are they signaling support for hamas or other release signaling support for the palestinian cause at large and i think for most of them it's the latter there are certainly minority for whom hamas and its actions on october the seventh for example is somehow acceptable resistance and that's absolutely appalling. >> finally, what would you tell them what would you tell those voices who have talked about river to the sea we know what that means, wipe out israel what would you tell those people and have you?
