pro palestinian protest is in the process of getting underway. demonstrators are demanding an immediate cease fire. israel says not until hamas releases all hostages in gaza. the latest with alexis mcadams in manhattan where the pro terses could be building. jeff paul in southern israel with the fighting is growing and jacqui heinrich at the white house where the pressure is mounting. all of that and gary senise on never forgetting. these days something he's giving more homes, lots of homes. "your world" is now. >> welcome. i'm neil cavuto. happy friday for you. another protest friday and a good many parts of the country. alexis mc aadams has more. >> another friday night, another protest in new york city. a pro palestinian protest. i'll walk you closer to the crowd. we're at columbus circle. we're seeing lots of flags here and most of people's faces are covered. we talked with a few protesters. most are not happy with the united states. helping is real. college campuses remain the epicenter of the duelling protests. so columbia university in new york making news today and taking some action. suspending two student groups, both students for justice in palestine and jewish voice for peace after the school says that the groups culminated an unauthorized event thursday afternoon. despite warnings and including threatening rhetoric and intimidation, which has been going on for several weeks. now we go to big crowds in bryant park. this happening in the last 24 hours. pro palestinian protesters not happy with the president of the united states. watch. >> we're tired of it. enough of the war mongering and the politicians. it's time for them to like cut it. cut it. we pay taxes for you to fix potholes, not to munger wars. enough is enough. >> this area, you can see as well, the big crowds, neil. lots of nypd officers that say they're going to remain on high alert. one of the issues is the planners don't tell the nypd where they're going to go, how long this is going to go on for. we've seen them block traffic. they shut down parts of a bridge. that led to major issues for officers. they're going to stay on stand by and continue to talk to people to see why they're here and what they stand for, neil. >> neil: thanks, alexis. she's just right around the block here. meantime, we want to take you to southern israel, what's going on there. they are now continuing to target hamas forces. so when you hear a lot about these four-hour daily pauses, that does not mean a pause in all of the fighting. let's get the latest from jeff paul in sderot. jeff? >> the fighting is going late in to the night along the israel gaza border. we've been standing here in sderot for the last couple hours. you can sear the booms of the outgoing artillery as israeli forces continue to hit their targets in northern gaza. this is what the it looks like a short time ago. you can see the flares lighting up the sky. most of the intense fighting in an around gaza city's main hospital, the shifa hold, an important strong hold used by hamas. the idf targeted the area as they moved deeper in to the dense neighborhoods of northern gaza. the heavy fighting is yet again forcing thousands more to pack up what they can and flee south. 80,000 civilians moved south today utilizing the six-hour evacuation corridor on gaza's main highway. israeli defense minister explained today why they're so focused on striking near the shifa hospital. >> those terrorists that are staying in the basements, underneath the shifa hospital tonight can hear the thundering sound of tank chains. the bulldozer that pounds the ground, they can hear it underground. they hear it and tremble with fear. >> neil, we should mention despite the humanitarian pauses that started today officially, there's still rockets being fired from gaza all over israel. today when we were at our hotel in tel aviv, the whole place got the warning. you could hear the sirens and heard the iron dome working. it's coming from both sides. >> neil: thanks, my friend. be safe. great reporting, jeff. to jacqui heinrich at the white house. they're getting heat on how they're handling all of this right now. what's the latest? >> neil, the white house was eager to announce that israel had embraced the president i push for humanitarian pauses. they're happening daily for a window of about four to five hours with an announcement. at least three hours in advance of it happening to let civilians get to higher ground. they see this as a win for biden. he's been taking a lot of criticism for backing israel as it seems to root out hamas. despite the pro palestinian protests that have been rising up across this country. and lately, we have seen the administration admitting more distance between the u.s. and its ally than before. >> did you ask him to pause for three days? >> yes. i've asked for a longer pause. >> biden did not elaborate on what he meant by even longer than three days. netanyahu told fox that is off the table anyway. >> the fighting continues against the hamas enemy, the hamas terrorists. but specific locations for a given period of a few hours here or there, we want to facilitate a safe passage of civilian against way from the fighting. our goal is to fight the terrorists, not the civilians. >> white house officials say they're not in support of a general cease fire and agree it would only help hamas. protesters are getting louder. yesterday someone interrupted the president's remarks. that person calling for a cease fire. vice president harris said today innocent civilians have been killed on both sides and had this message for the protesters. >> what i hope is that we can engage in conversation and discourse in a way that understands this is not binary. >> the big news today from the white house is not just about the middle east. it's about china. announcing that president biden will meet with chinese president xi jinping in san francisco at the apex summit next week. the u.s. is going to ask china to intervene and try to get iran to stop any efforts to widen this war, neil. >> neil: thanks very much. let's go to dan hoffman, the former cia chief in moscow watching this. you heard the back and forth on the wisdom of this four-hour daily pause in fighting. it could be interrupted at any time. what do you think of it? >> well, i think it just reflects the challenge for israeli defense forces. hamas deliberately embeds their fighters in civilian neighborhoods. look at that shifa hospital. it's a hamas command center. the tunnels, found tunnels beneath children's room in residential homes. that's the challenge that the israelis face, that hamas deliberately induces these sorts of attacks and doesn't draw a distinction. in fact, puts their innocent palestinian brethren in harms way. that's the narrative that hamas wants and sadly many across the world including in our own country are vulnerable to accepting that. >> neil: i'm wondering what you think of how the rest of the world is responding to this? we know that vladimir putin is paying extra attention to his forces in ukraine, maybe saying that they will continue to fight the good fight. but maybe recognizing an opportunity here where our attention is opportunity to israel, not at the expense of ukraine but maybe that's what vladimir putin is hoping. what do you think? >> yeah, i think absolutely vladimir putin and xi jinping see the united states stretched dealing with the war in ukraine, dealing with the war in gaza and having to detear the chinese aggression against taiwan. russia is at the center of this. they're relying on iran for crohn's. they've given iran a lot. they're planning to give hezbollah air defense and their shipping off their hydrocarbons to china. the only -- one of the only markets remaining to them. so the war in ukraine i think is very much intertwined with what we're seeing in the middle east. i think the challenge for the biden administration is to manage all three challenges simultaneously. >> when we talk about the middle east, i want your thoughts on what happens after this battle with hamas is done sooner rather than later. israel has said that they have to watch over the region, have a long-term role in deciding its future. note everyone is keen on that. i know israel isn't necessarily keen on qatar being among the countries along with egypt that might decide the new gaza, whatever form it takes. they don't like the fact that qatar has so many hamas big wigs living the good life in that country. what do you make of this? >> i'll tell you, when i served in iraq often times we would say today was a pretty bad day but tomorrow will be a little worse. its awfully hard to be optimistic about anything. the near term goals for israel and for us writ large, defeat hamas. save as many hostages as possible and try to defer a wider war with iran. lingering over that is the post conflict reconstruction plan. we learned that lesson from iraq where we failed to do that and we face add sunni insurgency. in order to drive a wedge between innocent palestinian civilians and the hamas terrorists, you have to offer palestinians good governance and economic opportunity. israel cannot be at the center of this. it has to be the region, egypt and jordan taking a leading role with saudi arabia. i think qatar could play a role and a very good role. but israel should not be responsible for occupies gaza in the post conflict reconstruction phase. general votel says the war phase could take weeks to months. we have some time. but israel would do well to start the planning process now. >> neil: thanks, dan. before we go to a quick break, the dow was sprinting ahead. all the averages were. what looked like could be a down week turned in to an up week for the major averages. up 1 to 2%. don't get ahead of ourselves. this was based on declining energy prices, normally good news. maybe there's fear in the markets here that they're signal as global slow down in activity. not always the case but did rain on the buying parade. we'll have that more tomorrow when we pick apart the markets and why they're dealing with this war in israel so well. maybe they don't see it repeating after the yom kippur wore. another attack on u.s. forces. i'm losing count on how many there's been. not nearly as many u.s. responses to those attacks after this.
