gowdy. israeli defense forces continue to pound hamas encircling gaza strip and rejecting calls from president biden and others for a so-called humanitarian pause. israel says if you want to pause, release the hostages, otherwise israel is reluctant to pause and allow hamas to regroup and the world should be reluctant to take the word of a terrorist group that beheads children. alex hogan is live in southern israel and joins us now. alex. we've started to hear artillery pick up, loudest blasts in the entire time here in israel, where you can feel the pressure and hear that echo ripple off into the distance. there is gunfire tonight, what appears to be machine gunfire in the distance in the direction of gaza strip. there were soldiers earlier tonight who asked us to cross the street to be closer to armed police officers. day 31, entering the early hours of the morning, idf spokesperson says what remains the main focus is rescuing those hostages. >> hamas terrorist organization has been ruthlessly holding innocent hostages. we in the idf and isa and security organizations have not forgotten andic maing massive effort around the clock and collecting every shred of information and every opportunity, we address this with highest national priority. >> the idf says that it's moving all troops further, deeper into northern gaza, reaching to the shores of the mediterranean. this is several days after announcing forces had successfully encircled gaza city. they have taken out 2500 targets like infrastructure and tunnels as forces continue to search for senior commanders and calling on residents to flee, dropping a mill pamphlets over gaza urging residents to go south. it stopped firing for several hours to let civilians leave. u.s. secretary of state antony blinken met with mahmoud abbas in the west bank before traveling to iraq to meet the prime minister there. blinken calling for that humanitarian pause. as far as americans that are in gaza, we know as many as 400 americans contacted the state department trying to leave. about 300 have successfully made it out. trey. >> trey: alex, seems like the u.s. and others want this humanitarian pause and seems like israel is open to it, they just have a reasonable request. release the people you kidnapped. is hamas willing to entertain that or do they want to keep the hostages and get the ceasefire? >> well, trey, we again, 241 hostages there. what we know about the conditions, likely expectation that many of them, if not the majority of them are in this intricate system of underground tunnels. we've heard no cooperation from hamas, no attempt to either have families contact them, israeli forces continually ask if the red cross could get in to verify the conditions of the hostages that of course has not come to fruition at this point. more artillery tonight ramping up a lot of questions of what this will mean for the soldiers, their main focus dismantling hamas and finding the hostages. in reference to a ceasefire on the table, as far as israeli forces, they say no chance of ceasefire and the u.s. is pushing for that temporary pause, again not a ceasefire in their words. trey. >> trey: thank you for risking your personal safety to bring information we need. stay safe. >> thank you. >> trey: the war in the middle east is raising the threat of terrorism in the u.s. to a new level according to fbi director christopher wray. multiple groups have called for attack against americans and urged followers to target jewish communities and there is mayhem in the region without any consequence from the u.s. joining us is mr. rob greenway, senior officer with the defense intelligence agency and u.s. army special forces veteran. thank you for joining us. is this becoming west versus aircrafts rab persian michael oher will it remain a war against terrorists who happen to behead children? >> thank you for having me on, i appreciate it. there is an opportunity for our opponents to make it between civilizations. we have seen this before and it failed. we can focus on the segment we have biggest problem with, the terrorists and sponsors and you named them in your dialogue a moment ago, that is tehran. if we hold tehran accountable, focus ourselves and israelis on the problem and not allow this to escalate to a clash between civilizations. >> trey: we heard from the head of hezbollah this week who blamed u.s. and israel for the war. he claimed he was just as surprised as the rest of us and claimed iran had nothing to do with it. you're the expert, i'm not, i find that hard to believe, but what do you think? >> fortunately, you don't have to be an expert, it is altogether evident, the head of tehran met with the supreme leader. all of them admitted to the fact they were collaborating before the attacks took place and the articles were published in "wall street journal" and "new york times." there is no secret about this and no one understanding either organization says this is tehran's control. we are seeing that play out on a daily basis. it is hard to believe that tehran is not responsible for this. >> trey: former president obama weighed in on the middle east by say nothing essence both sides have dirty hands. it strikes me one side has dirty and bloody hands, blood of innocent israelis. i don't understand this both side-ism, i want to be fair to him, but playing both sides when you got hostages held and raped and beheaded children did not seem to help matters. what did you think about what the former president had to say? >> so look, he may have been speaking more about himself than anyone else. i agree with you and most would agree the aggravated party here is israel who has every right to respond to october 7 in the way they are and any call for restraint are not doing justice to the victims of the terrorist attack, which included 33 americans temperature is not a surprise, that is the idea president obama and now president biden are using to apply to the region and it has been applied to the israel-palestine conflict and yielded no progress in the 40 plus years it's been attempted. we recognize that is not the case and that occurred during the trump administration. >> trey: the biden administration keeps warning iran, will the biden administration do anything other than warn iran? will they do something to retaliate against iran? >> they haven't yet in tehran and surrogates don't believe they will and the attacks will escalate and it will be worse. we are deterring ourselves, not iran. >> trey: thank you for joining us on sunday night, i have a sneaky suspicion we'll be talking again as the war rages on. >> thank you. >> trey: from the college classroom to the town square, antisemitism is on the rise, fuelled by the sament hate as yester year, the israeli special envoy for combating antisemitism joins us next on "sunday night in america." ar, the israeli spe for combating antisemitism joins us next on "sunday night in america." ster year, the israelil envoy for combating antisemitism joins us next on "sunday night in america." i'm an actor in an ad, who was given 12 seconds to remind you that if you're high, just don't drive. [chanting] >> from the river to the sea. from the river to the city. >> we will remember in 2024. >> trey: alexandria is in delaware as the white house responds. >> alexandria: you just saw on the screen, that last line of that video accusing the president of the united states of supporting genocide, not just president of the free world, member of rashida tlaib's own party. couple weeks ago, the white house was speaking out about comments made by squab members. the white house did respond today. >> we strongly disagree with that messaging and terms used to describe the conflict. some characterizations we believe have technical definition and histore cal resonance and weight we are messengers do not accept their application to this are wa. >> alexandria: wordy in the response. it has been requested that rashida tlaib apologize writing in a thread on x, the phrase from river to the sea is violence and counter productive against peace. tense situation and makes it harder for our community to find common ground. the phrase from the river to the sea, implies israel being erased from existence. bernie sanders responded and clarified what she feels a ceasefire means. >> you don't know how you could have a permanent ceasefire with an organization like hamas dedicated to turmoil and chaos and destroying the state of israel. >> when i say ceasefire, i understand you can't have a permanent ceasefire, that is not really realistic, you call for a ceasefire, it is a negotiated settlement. >> alexandria: the white house has not responded to the vandalism that took place at the white house last night, trey. >> trey: i'm sitting here scratching my head, i'm defending joe biden more than the white house is. they said technical definition, genocide, there is largely accepted definition for genocide, that is not something you accuse anyone of, much less someone in your own party. is that a forceful respond the white house will give us, a technical definition? >> alexandria: you know, i doubt it is. i think that sound bite was the response from the white house we got today. i think that was in regard to from the river to the sea, accusing the president of the united states of genocide, that was written in text on the screen, very intentional. we heard back strongly from the white house about comments from squad members. i hope we will hear more from the white house tomorrow. >> trey: you are probably right, probably in reference to the river to the sea and that means pushing israel into the sea, that is not good either. thank you for joining us on sunday night, we'll visit again soon. representatives are supposed to reflect views of their constituent, i'd be surprised if the good people of minnesota are represented by someone like ilhan omar who cannot bring herself to condemn hamas, antisemitism and opposition against jews. we shall see what the people in minnesota think, her opponent's name is dahlia alakidi. your opponent criticized the u.s. for giving money to israel for the iron dome and self defense, what is your view on that? >> thank you, trey, for having me on and you nailed it. i came to israel from ground zero of antisemitism in the united states, led by the most antisemitic lawmaker in history. i came here to represent the good people of the fifth district, good people of minnesota that we are not a supporter of terrorists like hamas. trey, i just yesterday viewed the 45 minute horrific video of what hamas terrorists have done since october 7 and saw them waving the isis flag. when we say hamas is there a dream that you have, sherri, that's really wild that you still want to live out? they have their flag. i've seen terrible scenes that the public has not seen yet and you know what, it's sickening and sad that we have lawmakers and politicians that support these blood thirsty killers. >> trey: you are right, most have not seen the videos because they cannot see them, they are unwatchable, you can't show them on television. rashida tlaib makes no effort to conceal anti-jewish effort, accused joe biden and the rest of us of committing genocide. i wonder if represent ilhan omar believe that also, the u.s. is committing genocide when it supports israel and defending itself? >> enough to read what she posts on twitter and facebook, social media, thee are clear and poisonous more than rashida tlaib. the thing is, we don't need these people in our country as leaders as politicians. ilhan omar over and over and over kept saying since day one that the jews or israelis remember it is all about the benjamin. ilhan omar, she's never shy of expressing her feelings and that is why we all need to -- americans need to unite against the toxic politicians. that is why i wanted to come to israel to tell the israelis that we americans are with you. we are not represented by the few who cannot differentiate between good and evil. >> trey: well, we look forward to watching that race and look forward to having you back on. you want to talk about education and other issues, not simply two muslim women running from different parties. we will have you on again, thank you for joining us this sunday night. >> thank you and i would invite everybody to check dalia for congress.com, to learn more about our district. >> trey: yes, ma'am, thank you so much. for all the talk about the evolution of the human condition, someone forgot to tell hamas, hezbollah and the houthis, someone forgot to tell the facult and he students at u.s. colleges and universities and forgot to tell a dozen members of congress. if you want the attention of college and university officials, don't complain, stop donating, take your money back, put it to better use, start a college fund for orphans, build a monument for the children beheaded, the innocent taken hostage, don't give to colleges afraid of their own students. joining us is israel special envoy for combating antisemitism. thank you so much for joining us. new century, same acts of violence against the jewish people temperature is hard to see much progress has been made. i would have said progress had been made, it is hard to see, you're the expert, what do you say? >> first of all, thank you, trey. as you noted, antisemitism has been around for thousands of years, ever mutating virus and post-covid we understand new strains of virus need to be address. october 7 made it clear, antizionism or right to exist in any border. the same antisemitism that crueled crimes against humanity of october 7 is the antisemitism that fuels the response that deny, that justify and excuse the atrocity of october 7 and attack jews in their wake. we have a new strain of this ever mutating virus. it is on campuses and online and in congress and on the streets. if we are to identify and combat it, it challenges our shared humanity in civilization. if we combat it, we have to inoculate our society against this strain of antisemitism that denies israel's right to exist in any border. >> trey: start by calling it what it is. i want to play a quote from john kirby for you and then ask you a question on the other side. >> the people in this country making violent antisemitism threats, are they domestic terrorists? >> i don't know that we're classifying people as domestic terrorists for that. that is really a question better left to law enforcement, i'm not aware of such a characterization of that. >> trey: i'm not going to insert you in u.s. tol p politics, othr than ask you this, congressman gallagher referred to tiktok as digital fentanyl, and that is where most young people get their news. why are young people marching in support of hamas?
