of 83. thank you, jim . >> dana: harris faulkner is up next. >> harris: breaking news, live pictures now. this is happening in tel aviv. a lot of people, we're told hundreds, lining the streets gathering with posters of some 238 hostages being held by the hostage taking killers of hamas. israel's military has moved deeper into gaza but the word on the street today is don't forget the hostages. some of them american, there are dozens of countries who have hostages among those who the hamas terrorists took on october 7th. the united states is pushing to get our own citizens separate from the hostages, those citizens who were perhaps visiting with family in gaza, cannot get out. only five of them have managed so far. they are trying to get out. hamas has been blocking them from leaving, which i've been saying for the last 24 hours feels more like hostage taking. sources are telling fox news there are 400 americans stuck in gaza along with family members who may or may not be american citizens. they all want to get out of there. now they've been given the clearance to leave. we'll be watching for any movement. nearly one month since the start of the fighting began between israel and the monsters who attacked israeli citizens, hamas. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." some of those american citizens have already crossed. there were a handful. they made their way into egypt. that's happened since late yesterday into the night and this morning. team biden is under a lot of pressure in the lead-up to this. and what we're hearing from that camp is it could take days to get all of our people out. >> we do expect to be able to get all our americans out. it will take a few days. it will take some time. this was the first step and it is a good step in the right direction but we know there is a lot more work. >> president biden: we'll see more of the process going on in the coming days. working non-stop to get americans out of gaza as soon as and as safely as possible. >> harris: since october 7th, the biden administration has been staunchly against a cease-fire. they just said it again through john kirby, no cease-fire. that would be like israel throwing in all of its efforts for nothing right now. however, just last night at a fundraiser, president biden floated a new word for it all, he is not calling it a cease-fire, he is going to call it a pause. he said it would be used as time to get the prisoners out, in reference to those still being held captive by terror group hamas. prisoners, hostages. that's a subtle shift in the president's previous play, they say. it is not subtle, it is bold. it is right there in front of your face. not telling israel how to go about its military operations but saying take a pause. in "focus" now retired army four star general jack keane. we'll start at the white house, peter doocy there. >> it's been tough to tell the last few weeks how much pressure president biden has feeling from these progressives and protestors who want a cease-fire. last night in minnesota, somebody paid to get into a fundraiser to confront the president to his face. >> mr. president, as a rabbi i need you to call for a cease-fire right now. >> sit down. >> following that there was this, quote, i think we need a pause, biden said. rosenberg, rabbi, asked what that meant, quote, a pause means give time to get the protestors out, give time, he said according to a pool report. the mccall family from massachusetts are those already out from gaza through the raffi crossing in the morning today into egypt, on a shuttle the cairo. unclear what transpired overnight. yesterday americans weren't on the approved to leave. the pause president biden called for may be playing into hamas's hands. >> hamas has wanted pauses. they wanted a consistent battle rhythm where they can elicit support from neighboring countries. they want slow on the military operational side for you to be especially with saving hostages. >> president biden has two separate oval office meetings today. the leader of the dominican republic and chile. he doesn't want the israeli/gaza conflict to chew up all his time. >> harris: retired four star army general jack keane and chairman of the institute for the study of war. it is great to have you in "focus" today, general. first of all, a pause. how is that going to be different than selling a cease-fire to the american people and more importantly to israel? >> i don't think there is any difference, just in the name. they are trying to stop the israelis and hamas from fighting to be able to conduct an exit with the foreign nationals to include the americans. look, harris, i'm not sure it makes sense at this point. seems to me the operation is working, 400 americans at least in the process of getting out. it is taking place at the southern-most part of the gaza strip at rafah obviously. the battle is taking place in the northern part of the gaza strip. the israelis have deep into this. they have destroyed 100 tunnels, got a couple hundred more to go. they're going slow and gradual. they waited three weeks to make sure as much of the population would move from the north to the south. they waited to get the humanitarian trucks in. obviously they could have started their tactical operation at least ten days prior to when they did but they paused all of that for these other critical activities to take place. to ask them to stop while their soldiers are in the middle of fire fights would put those troops at risk doing something like that. i don't even think we should talk to them about it to be quite frank. i imagine someone in the administration -- the remark the president made as we have seen before, harris, may not reflect policy. it reflects his instincts to that question as opposed to what is u.s. policy. i think as the day plays out, i find it hard to believe that america's policy is now going to be some kind of cease-fire under the name of a humanitarian pause. that is not our policy right now. >> harris: it was not our policy last night. the policy happened today just when we heard from admiral kirby, spokesman for the nsc advisor and spokesperson for the white house, he said no cease-fire. he went into detail how there would be no cease-fire. he said some of what you are saying. it would expose israeli soldiers but he is former military and knows what this would do. what happened overnight is what we're all wondering? i wonder if it was actual political pressure. that would not be the way to fight this battle. i want to get to this. hamas official shows exactly why no cease-fire is even possible. as you said shouldn't even be talked about right now. this hamas leader is promising to repeat the massacre that happened on october 7th against israeli citizens again and again and again and again. watch. [speaking native] >> harris: that's their battle plan. torture, rape. they are cowards, monsters, not soldiers. >> this obvious testimony to why there is such an issue with hamas. hamas is backed by iran who has two objectives to be able to dominate and control the middle east. the 1 is to drive the military presence of the united states out of the region. you've seen that pattern of behavior going on and accelerated recently. and the second is destroy the state of israel. hamas is the instrument as are the other proxies in the region the instrument in doing that. and despite that, that is why arab nations have relations now with israel. they have relations with them. they don't want to destroy the state of israel. they want to partner with the state of israel to do what? counter the iranians. and it looked like saudi arabia was on the cusp of at least getting closer to doing that very thing. once they do it, the rest of the arab muslim states in the region will fall into play. iran saw that they would be isolated as a result of something like that. but case in point. the arabs are fed up with the rejectionist attitude of the palestinians and particularly with hamas, the ant ith sis where they are going. hamas wants to destroy the state of israel. the arabs and muslims want a relationship with the state of israel. that's how opposite this is. it's iran driving the dagger here. we have to pin the rose on the iranians. it is not just hamas. they are the instrument. what's behind this is iran's policy to destroy the state of israel and drive the united states out of the middle east. >> harris: i want to get this in because it's happening now. iran will become chair of the united nations human rights forum today sparking an international protest campaign from human rights activists who say iran's record of oppression, torture and executions make it ill-suited for the post. they will chair the u.n. human rights forum today. unbelievable. no one would argue the fact, just like what you said, that anybody else is in the background between israel and hamas, it is iran. it is the iran factor. what are we not doing via this administration that we must do immediately? >> well, first of all change our policy. recognize full well that iran is an antagonist here and they clearly want the united states out of this region. they clearly are the instrument that destabilizing the region. we have to stop and recognize that the diplomatic overture in made in trying to appease them failed miserably. slap the sanctions down on them as hard as it was in the trump administration. continue the outreach to saudi arabia. i think saudi arabia will continue at some point to have relations with israel. and then third right now the iranians. >> harris: they indicated that this week. >> tell the iranians we won't put up with you continuing to attack us in the region. that's over. i think we should have taken their capability to attack us at multiple bases where we know these are the proxies now, where we know their command and control is. where the instruments of war are. rockets, missiles and drones and entire infrastructure. hammer that. don't wait, hammer it now and take the capability away from them. they have attacked us close to 30 times. lack of will. >> harris: lack of will. >> it's a lack of will and it deals with risk aversion. people get paralyzed by the fear of diverse consequences. the thought is that iranians will escalate and therefore we won't take this action. >> harris: they've already done that. >> what we're trying to do is take their capability away from them to escalate and also when you send a tough message like that, they know then that you mean business. and the evidence is in. when you push hardou push hard iranians, they back up. >> harris: we better start pushing fast because if hezbollah pushes any harder from the north coming from lebanon iran backed terrorists up there, that really puts the pressure on israel and all our men and women stationed near and around the region who have already been hit 28 times. we've had an american contractor die in one of those attacks. general keane, thank you very much always for being with me on "focus." >> great talking to you, harris. >> harris: in the people nation especially students at a flash point divided over support for israel. some tearing down the posters of the hostages that the hamas killers are holding. others are trying to protect the posters and it is getting really tough with those fights going on. we're seeing it here in new york city play out on the streets. the israel/hamas war, inflation, biden's border crisis and more with voters' voices. we have a twist. they'll also put their questions and great topics directly to a republican presidential candidate today, vivek ramaswamy. for your family? newday usa can help. veterans have earned a lot of va benefits with their service, but the va home loan benefit is a big one. by using your benefit at newday you can borrow up to 100% of your home's value and take out an average of $70,000. use that money to pay off high rate debt and get back on your feet financially. that first time you take a step back. i made that. with your very own online store. i sold that. and you can manage it all in one place. i built this. and it was easy, with a partner that puts you first. godaddy. >> you know where they are now? >> why are you tearing them down? >> why do you think this is acceptable? these people are kidnapped. >> it is children. it is innocent people. >> harris: posters of hostages being torn down by hamas supporters sparking anger and division. anti-israel protestors tearing them down as others are trying to protect them. some of them, as i said, are anti-israel. some saying they believe in much more than that having to do with hamas terrorism. the "new york post" cover tearing into the anti-israel demonstrators with this. not a shred of decency. we've been showing you several of the posters right here every day on "focus" to show the human costs of what tipped israel into war, children among those being held captive. those kept alive by the hostage takers who didn't burn, torture, kill, and took some people alive. we don't know what is happening to them now. you can download and print these posters and share them in your own community. some people have done on the east coast and you see them pinned up and people taking them down. kidnapped from israel.com to find it and print them. as you know here on the program last week i interviewed the two artist its behind the posters. they designed them. here is one of them on seeing the work being destroyed. >> look at this poster, for example. this is a 9-month-old baby. when a person is ripping apart this baby's face he thinks he is tearing down the entire jewish or israely entity. he does not realize that this baby is a real human being. it is not fake. i can't even describe how i feel about this baby being held kidnapped by hamas. >> harris: rampant anti-israel protest have grown day-by-day on college campuses on america. cb cotton in new york city with the latest. >> hi, harris, these flyers remind us of the more than 200 families who don't know whether their loved ones will ever be returned from the hands of hamas terrorists. signs of this reality continue to be disregarded by some as seen in videos like this. people identifying zimmerman as the one caught on camera ripping down flyers in new york. stony brook university on long island telling fox news it is conducting an investigation into the video of its graduate student adding the social media post regarding a stony brook student being widely circulated on social media is vile and infuriating and doesn't represent the university. we must condemn anti-semitism unhe carveically and support every member of our community. in england these two women were captured ripping downsly hostage flyers. this comes as people overseas mourn for the children taken from their families held hostage by hamas. today's front cover of the british paper the sun remembering those innocent lives. now as people like this -- videos like this continue to surface, of people taking down these flyers, people who put them up are urging people to denounce removing them as anti-semitism. >> the evilness to pull down a kidnap sign of a 4-month-old whose parents have been killed and she is orphaned and just asking to bring her home and your reaction is to pull that down, i don't care where that poster is. it just shows a complete lack of humanity. >> good this. aclu sent a letter to more than 650 colleges and universities asking them to reject investigation into or punishment of pro-palestinian student groups. the aclu argues those student groups are expressing their free speech rights. harris. >> harris: we'll watch it closely. thank you very much, cb cotton reporting for us. let's do "the faulkner focus" voters' voices on top issues. 74 days out from the nation's first primary contest, the iowa caucuses. meeting is joe t., sarah a., eddie a. sam s., bonnie give us a shout. there she is and dan b. welcoming everybody. not only will we hear from you, you will be able to ask questions directly to our presidential candidate gop today vivek ramaswamy. welcome to everybody. let's get started. i want to go right away to you. dan, you are a democrat among us today. you want to focus on the israel/hamas war. >> i just want to ask as a person who supports israel's right to defend itself and its right to strike back at hamas for the horrible attack, i haven't seen your positions moderate at all. i wonder if you think there is any limit to the amount of bloodshed that is justifiable on behalf of attacking hamas. >> i appreciate that question, dan. my view is what hamas did to israel was sub human. it was medieval. because of israel's right to national self-defense i run for president of the united states, not president of israel. it is my job to protect their right to defend themselves. imagine how we would want to defend ourselves in this country? the right israel has itself. as a friend if i'm president of the united states i would talk to leadership in israel and have concerns of their own probability of success for a prolonged ground invasion in gaza. i would encourage them to go for an in and out operation . target the leadership of hamas, get the job done. i have trust in the idf to get its job done. my job as president of the united states is to provide diplomatic cover, a diplomatic iron dome to let israel do what they need to do in order to defend its right to exist without being questioned by the u.n., e.u. or for that matter even the u.s. as we also stay out of a broader war in the middle east ourselves. >> harris: can we talk about the united nations this morning? this morning the u.n. is making the chair people of the human rights department at the u.n. iran. >> it is unbelievable. some of the other members of this human rights council at the u.n., north korea, venezuela rick others. so the u.n. has quickly devolved into a joke of an institution, harris. i have long said it is reasonable for the u.s. to even reconsider our funding or participation in the u.n. years ago when i used to say things like that people said it sounds extreme. what purpose is the u.n. serving versus how is it impeding our own sovereignty or allies like israel today? the secretary general's comments about israel yesterday were shameful. i do think when an institution outlives its purpose we should ask the questions. >> harris: when the comments were made on u.s. soil, we host the so-called neutral ground of the united nations. i don't know if we want to rethink that, too. let's stay with the topic for a second. sarah, i know you have a question about the israel/hamas war too. >> during the first republican primary debate i was very surprised to see you were the only candidate who raised their hand if you think the u.s. should stop sending money to ukraine. i was wondering do you hold the same belief with aid to israel because of the unfolding events? >> similar standards across the board. one is we keep our pre-existing commitments. we give a 3.8 billion aid to israel that we're committed. we have made that commitment. a 10-year commitment before. what i said we would keep that commitment in tact until the day israel tells us they are ready for us to cut it off. we stand by prior commitments. i'm against any further specific military support of this war. i support in the earlier days the diplomatic cover israel needs to defend itself but i don't think it's in either israel's or our interest for the u.s. to get involved in another protracted conflict in the middle east. older generation of republicans, dick cheney and george bush sent our sons and daughters to die in places like iraq and afghanistan that didn't serve the american interest. $33 trillion national debt today, 7 trillion of that due to those two wars alone. i want to be careful not to make those mistakes of getting the u.s. itself. our sons and daughters involved in another prolonged war in the middle east. diplomatically sanding for israel's right to defend it cismd america first means something to me. it is my moral obligation as the next u.s. p tea to put the interests of american citizens first while standing for our allies we'll do diplomatically and keeping prior commitments. we stand by our commitments and that's what we'll keep. >> harris: anybody else with a follow up? i would say this we're already getting hit 28 times they have attacked our bases and those iran backed proxies, hired terrorists is what they do for a living and get paid by iran. we're having to hit back at this point. >> rule of thumb. if you hit us, talking about hitting american troops, whoever it is directly hitting us we'll hit you back ten times harder. >> would it be iran? >> we have to have evidence. whichever group hit us. >> harris: they pay for bullets and equipment. >> the theories of proxy warfare would have to be careful. if we cross that bridge russia would have the right to hit u.s. because we arm ukraine. if you hit us whatever group we'll hit you back ten times harder. while also evaluating our presence in syria and iraq where i don't think we should be anymore. >> harris: the criticism from generals and others i interviewed on the "focus" is sending two planes with two missiles to hit two things in syria was not proportional. >> ten times harder is what i said. >> harris: let's get to joe and welcome. your question is on the economy. in fact, that was the top topic for a few of you. >> what would you do to reduce the inflation if you were president? >> joe, the number one question in our economy. the answer, increase the supply of everything that matters in the united states. starting with energy. drill, frack, burn coal and embrace nuclear energy. if you increase the supply, cost comes down and gives us economic growth. another one. you want to know what's driving inflation? supply change shortage driven by a shortage of workers. stop using our taxpayer money to pay people to stay at home instead of work. housing prices, regulations restrict the construction of new houses, get rid of those. increase supply of houses, prices go down. i'm a businessman, not a politician. for mmef this is economics 101. basic. i think we live in a moment where it will take a ceo in the wows coming in from the outside to deliver basic solutions. the other thing in the federal budget to help our debt and inflation is start with 0-based budgeting. not last year's budget which is already broken and tinker around the edges. forget that. start with 0 as the baseline and then ask what is actually necessary. that gets the government spending out of driving inflation as well. does that address your question? >> the other thing is interest rates are high and people not buying houses now. can't afford to buy houses because of the interest rates. the younger generations can't buy a house and move into a house and living with moms and dads. >> you could do better than people on the current economic council in the country. prices are going up. interest and mortgage rates going up. wages have remained flat. no matter what the white house says people feel that. that's the source of the economic frustration. i know how to fix it. takes a businessman to get that done and i will. >> harris: a quick show of hands, everybody. abortion, lgbtq, liberal ideology in schools. those issues are any of those in your top three? cultural issues. bonnie, i will come to you on that. do you have a question for vivek? >> education is a very important tool for all of our children and i have grandchildren in elementary school now and the things that they are being taught i believe parents should have a chance and a voice to say exactly what they are being taught and it is being taken away from a lot of our parents. what would you do to help us? >> i have a cardinal rule here. parents determine the education of their children. the real head of the snake here is the u.s. department of education at the federal level. they are taking $80 billion of your taxpayer money, our taxpayer money. this is behind the scenes. they will tell the public schools you don't get that federal money unless you adopt these toxic racial and gender ideologies. that's where it is coming from. not bottom up rick it's top down. good news is the next u.s. president if you put me there, that department of education like the rest of the three letter agencies report to me. i will shut down the u.s. department of education and then give that $80 billion back to parents across this country to be able to choose and be empowered to decide where they send their kids to school. that kind of competition and choice is how you dilute the racial and gender poison to irrelevance. >> harris: quickly, because you hear republicans talk about they will do away with the school board and all of that. during the pandemic, they had so much power in our lives they not only shut down schools but forced parents to find ways to become the teachers in the classroom at home, which is different than a stay at home teach at home type of situation because you plan for it. ours was forced. we had to do it. thank the good lord some of oves could do that. once they found out that they were teaching their kids we could do a better job. >> we learned things and parents were alerted to things we wouldn't have paid attention to. something funny that happened and sad. a lot of inner city schools remained closed and private schools were open. that's the joke, but then they started saying math is racist because kids in the cities are performing more poorly than kids is summer. what was inequitable is shutting down schools in the cities and the suburbs open. let's not make those same mistakes in the future. >> harris: i take a lot of grief on twitter in 1918 we didn't shut down the largest school districts. they never closed it. 50 million people who died across the world in that flu pandemic but they did exactly what you are talking about and protected the schools particularly here and there were a couple of others on the eastern seaboard with high populations. all right. eddie, sam, you guys in the spotlight. your concerns are public safety and let's stick with the border. sam, i come to you for a question on the border. >> so as a son of legal immigrants to this country, me and my family are worried about all these tens of thousands of illegal immigrants coming through our southern border and now here the government has to waste taxpayer money in housing them and feeding them and other necessities they need since they are here. my question is if you are elected president, how would you deal with the millions of illegal immigrants in the nation already? >> you and i have something in common. we're both the sons of legal immigrants to this country. we shouldn't conflate that with the illegal immigration crisis. i personally went to eagle pass, texas on the southern border a few weeks ago. i have never seen a larger scale violation of the rule of law orchestrated by the government in my life. we know how to solve this. no more central american foreign aid until they solve their side of the border crisis. aquatic barriers in the water. end birthright citizens ship for the sons of illegal immigrants. stop federal funding for sanctuary cities. we can't pay for breaking the rule of law. you ask the hardest question. what do you do about the people already here? that's a tough one. many are good people. the biden administration gave them a wink and nod and came with their families, but we're a nation founded on the rule of law and if we stand by that, that means -- i will, anyone who is in in country illegally has to be returned to their country of origin because as a father of two sons myself i can't be in the white house as your next president. look my sons in the eye and tell them they have to follow the rules when the government itself doesn't follow its own rules. we'll do it with respect, compassion, but we will think on the time scales of history and say yes, we followed the rule of law. that has to be the answer. >> harris: look, the person who has managed to do that more than anybody else in the last decade or so was a democrat, obama. former president obama was chide i had within his own party and nicknamed him deporter in chief. it was necessary. i don't know what he would do today. politics are different. >> the democratic party, the radical left has it in a choke hold. you asked me that question. you know when else i got to the question. south side of chicago in a roomful of voters, hard democrat voters, 90% black. they would say don't talk to in a republican primary. everybody else in the room favored the same policies sam and i are talking about at the border. it goes beyond partnership. >> harris: if we have time, dan, you are a democrat. i want to go to eddie for anything you want to add or a question on the topic. >> when you see democrat cities dealing with a big influx of crime. their progressive policies are utter failure, you can see it. police are going out there every day doing their job pounding the pavement, making arrests. we can't keep the criminals in jail. what and if when you are president, what would you do to help alleviate and help the police and investigative entities keep the bad people in jail and get rid of progressive policies here today? >> two things. we know we can do that work. they worked in cities like the one we're in here today. new york city in the 1990s and others. make sure police officers are able to do their job. more cops on the street without looking over their shoulder for fear of being sued. that's a big problem today and why you have recruitment crises in police departments. the second thing is this one is controversial to some. we need to bring back mental health station. the number one source of mental healthcare is our prison system. many of these people should be getting mental healthcare. psych attic illness is driving the wave of violent crime. i won't be afraid to bring back the mental health station. it is a touchy subject. abuses in past decades. we can learn from the past and the dirty secret is it is a big part of the pharma industry lobbying. when the pharma industry developed anti-psychotics it would be better if they weren't in the institutions and they used that to shut them down. we need to bring back faith-based approaches. psychiatric care. if we have the courage to do that, we deal with the violent crime problem. >> harris: i want to come to you, dan, democrat on the panel today. fast thoughts on the border, crime. >> mainly i just want to know, vivek, as the son of immigrants whose policies are extremely anti-immigrant and extremist bay lot of measures as a double ivy league graduate who is anti-he lightist and attended public schools who wants to eliminate the department of education how can voters be sure you won't turn on them if they give you power? >> part of my views are a product of my experiences. i went to a poor public school through eighth grade before i went and had an opportunity to go to a catholic high school. i want every kid in this country to live the american dream that i was able to live. i'm not anti-immigrant, i'm anti-breaking the rule of law. we need to send civil immigration policies to bolster certain kinds of legal education but we can't do that until we address the illegal immigration crisis. you are a democrat and running for u.s. president. the dividing lines in this country are not anymore between black and white or even between democrat and republican. it is about reviving the basic values that i think you and i both share in common, dan. i think we're commited to the rule of law. that means we stand for the rule of law regardless of skin color. that's why i want to barricade the southern people and stand for the american dream. every kid should live the american dream. i hope that's how we unite this country and grateful to you. >> harris: we have to wrap it up. almost to a person, maybe a couple of exceptions, most of you have decided who you will vote for. did today's conversation help you in that? something you will tell me that later. i'm glad you were here today. you help a lot of people asking questions from your point of view. vivek, thank you for being here. great to see you. >> a great conversation with you all. thank you for the questions. >> harris: we'll be right back. benefit allowed me to keep my money in my pocket. and my service was my down payment. i talked with newday on a thursday, put a contract on this house on saturday. 30 days later, we were moving in. i would tell other vets out there who are dreaming of getting into a home to stop dreaming. pick up the phone. call newday. you served your country. allow newday to serve you. i hope you all like potatoes... these are fresh from my garden. what? i would ask my friend will cain, "fox & friends" weekend host, 23 other republicans also join in the call for her to be censured ever. why do you think it what happened the way it did? >> i'm not sure why they chose to vote against the censure. if it's some type of fidelity through their own rational to the concept of free speech. how dangerous it is, quite honestly, i believe this to be the case, how dangerous it is about casting dispersions of misinformation because it has been abused. there is a lie and tlaib and aoc and others have been engaged in the lies when it comes to israel and hamas. one of the biggest takeaways, those that cast stones are usually the ones guilty of the sin they accuse of others. racism or mantel of silence, spreading misinformation. most absurd they have called people nazis while now refusing to condemn or in some cases supporting people with a platform of anihilating jews. it could not reach a more absurd conclusion, like hamas if you are parroting the ideology of nazis. >> harris: the white house is taking some criticism now for announcing a quote, national strategy to take will islamophobic. kamala harris yesterday. >> for years muslims in america an those perceived to be muslim have -- this will be a comprehensive and detailed plan to protect muslims and those perceived to be muslim from hate, bigotry and violence. >> harris: one critic wrote one of the most tone deaf posts i've ever seen. another with this is a slap in the face to american jews who are the actual victims of hate crimes. in fact, they make up 2.4% of our population and they phase 60% of threats against them out of all of those made against groups. will. >> just beyond absurd. beyond tone deaf. absurd to bring in islamaphobia in this moment. listen, on the will cain podcast i try to go into very deep conversations to understand. i understand there is an appetite in the american public to make sense of a complicated thing. we talked about the history of zionism, the beginnings of israel but that doesn't lead you to a point where you need to equivocate in these moments when the moral clarity is we do not face an issue of islamaphobia today. if there is some point in the future where that is the position to bring to the forefront i will understand. but not when we see an unprecedented rise in anti-semitism. i don't think happening around the world is anti-semitism. >> harris: let's take a pause there and not like the one the president is calling for with our friend israel. a pause to ask why can't it be talked about, anti-semitism, while israel is under attack and citizens are beheaded, babies, grandmothers, people kidnapped. held hostage. why can't that just be talked about? why does islamaphobia have to be rolled in if there is an equivalent and timing there is an opportunity to talk about the other side of this. or is it political? >> probably it is political. that is more charitable than the other conclusions we can arrive at. what is probably -- it is probably political. the democratic party is in this difficult position where they have adopted the framework of oppressor and oppressed in every issue, every single issue. it's anti-colonial. i think the crudeest of this people look at it through everything else like a racial wrens. j jews are whiter, arabs are darker. we can't be seen on the side of the quote, unquote colonialist oppressor. they are in the political position they don't know how to navigate a win. you should do that on moral clarity. you don't caveat a condemnation of anti-semitism. >> harris: the president might lose the muslim vote. they make that point. if you aren't careful you won't have that 2% that you may need in a tight situation in a battleground state, for example. >> real quick i don't think just the muslim vote. they will be concerned about losing all of the left wing of their vote the sees the world through oppressor and oppressed and decided that israel is the oppressor in this case. >> harris: president biden not going to be on the new hampshire primary ballot. dean phillips is on it launching a challenge to president biden in new hampshire last week. this is how the state's governor sees it. >> news flash for joe biden. nobody cares. nobody really cares that joe biden is not on the ballot here. not a clamoring wing of the democratic party i wish i could vote for biden in the new hampshire primary. they've given up on him and moving on. dean phillips has a huge opportunity to crack the democrat party wide open. >> harris: your take. >> i agree with that. i take dean phillips more seriously than maybe the average person might realize at this moment. joe biden is incredibly weak and has an issue that divides his party down to its ideological base. dean phillips represent for democrats a moderate who has an opening in new hampshire. >> harris: it's interesting. he picked the one issue biden can't fight. i support him on everything. he is just too old. biden can't take that, right? he can't get younger and he can't go taller or anything else. he is getting older and where dean phillips postured his campaign. thank you very much.
