Ways to make a look at casualties. How do they adjust it, whether its being used effectively or yeah, i understand. Its a good point. Just to clarify, general glenn is not there to direct the israelly military or tell them what to do. Hes there as an expert on urban combat. The considerations are how do you account for the civilian population in mitigating the casualties. At the end of the day, this is about saving lives and eliminating a terrorist threat. Thank you. Thank you. I want to pick up on the air Defense Systems being shipped to the region. Yesterday the Wall Street Journal reported that the u. S. Had asked israel to hold off on the Ground Offensive until the air defenses could get to the region. Is there any truth to that report . Yeah,s seen those reports. What i will tell you, id refer you to the israelis to talk about their operations, their time lines. Our focus is on ensuring that the Israeli Defense forces have what they need to defend the israeli people. As i mentioned earlier, send a deterrence message and ensure we have theater protection. I would highlight that we have significant capabilities. It was asked about an unsuccessful attack. We have Defense Facility thats can mitigate some of those attacks. So again, thats really what our focus continues to be. Quickly as well, Emmanuel Macron floated the idea of a coalition similar to the one that was made with isis. Has there been any further movement from the u. S. . I dont have anything on that in particular. We cooperate with many nations on counter terrorism. As it relates to that specifically, i dont have anything. Two questions. One is israel, one on ukraine. Were asking israel questions. We asked how we got here, the october 7th attack from hamas. Does the u. S. Hold them responsible or the for any civilian casualties . Right now were helping israel defend themselves from Terrorist Attacks and deterring a wider regional conflict. On ukraine, the package announced 150 million is one of the smallest weve seen since the start of the war. As the pentagon says, we can support israel and ukraine at a critical time. Why such a small package . Are we running out of money here . Thats how it comes across. Youve been following this a long time. You know those capabilities or the size of the packages fluctuate based on what we see in terms of the needs on the ground. Same thing. You can expect to see those continuing to ebb and flow in terms of the size. That said, we have submitted a supplemental request for additional funding for ukraine and israel as well as other National Security requirements. So well continue to work closely with congress to seek that funding so that we can continue to provide support at a level that we think is important. Thank you. Laura . Thanks, pat. Two questions. First of all, can you tell us the latest overall number of casualties from the attacks in iraq and syria and including attacks today and whether there were any tbis reported. Secondly, altogether, how many troops are deployed or prepared to deploy as a response . So between october 17 and 18, eastern time, 21 u. S. Personnel received minor injuries due to Drone Attacks at alassad air base in iraq. Weve highlighted all members returned to duty. So during those two days, at garrison, there were 17 u. S. Personnel that sustained minor injuries. 15 of whom were diagnosed with tbi, traumatic brain injury. At alassad, four were diagnosed with tbi but no injuries. In all cases, members returned to duty. Theres been no injuries or no reported cases of tbi since the 17th and 18th of october. Again, well continue to keep you updated. As i mentioned in the statement that i put out last night, as we have seen in the past, theres situations where several days after an attack a member may selfreport ringing in the ears, headaches and subsequently diagnosed as tbi. Those numbers can fluctuate. As 15 06 on the 26th of october, thats what ive got. The second question. How many troops are deployed or prepared to deploy . I dont have any specific numbers in terms of the broader theater footprint. As it relates to deploy numbers, those numbers continue to fluctuate based on mission requirements, readiness rates, et cetera. I cant throw out a number. The last number we heard was 2,000. That was a mark on the wall based on the moment in time that will continue to fluctuate. Yes, maam. Thank you. So recently secretary holstein traveled to angola. While there, he expressed the u. S. Interest in deepening the cooperation with angola. Can you give us an overview how things are progressing since the secretarys visit to angola . Sure. As it relates to the secretarys conversations with the president , i dont have anything specific to read out. Clearly africa and our relationship with angola continue to remain importance. As you know from that trip, we announced a series of upcoming initiatives in terms of regular contact to look at ways that martha well have an ear to the rest of this pentagon briefing. Welcome to the story. Im martha maccallum. As you just heard from pat ryder, the pentagon says nearly 1,000 u. S. Troops have now been deployed. Additional troops have been added to the middle east. Theyre going to other base theres the region. The Pentagon Senting Patriot and thad Patriot Missile defense to protect u. S. Forces at our bases in the middle east. We have 19 bases in this larger region. Tensions clearly continue to rise and Drone Strikes injure more than 20 American Service members at bases in iraq and syria last week. John kirby saying most of the injuries are minor. There might be some Brain Injuries, temporary Brain Injuries among some of them. Those individuals are being watched closely to see if what theyre suffering from is a serious issue. We just heard from pat ryder, theres 15 that fall into that category that receive some kind of brain injury from those attacks. These are serious issues for our Service Members that have been hit in syria and iraq. Everyone waits to see what the response is to this action but i rainian rainian proxies. Israel has agreed to delay their invasion until the Missile Defense is ready to go and in place. We heard from pat ryder that he cant disclose how long that will take. The Israeli Military has not confirmed theyre delaying based on the readiness of the missile Defense Systems. We know the israelis did start this onner raise in to Northern Gaza. It was a brief raid to take out terrorist cells, other targets for the next stages of combat. Mike tobin standing by on the ground in Southern Israel. First, lets bring in dan senor from the bush administration. The resilience is being tested, dan, in a way that nobody anticipated. On october 6, if you would have told me when israel at the depth of division politically over these debate over judicial reform and now theyre at the height of solidarity. How have they come togethered and rallied, 360,000 reserves mobilized, 120 , people showing up that are out of the reserves saying i want to serve. All parts of Israeli Society from Orthodox Jews to Israeli Arabs coming together. In my book, we describe the social infrastructure that is about to make that happen. We see this horrific moment how israelis come together and its going to be a long haul. Martha it reminds americans of the moments after 911. Great solidarity. Shouldering this kind of enormous and brutal attacks. In 911, you had people that got on the train and went to work one day and never came home. In this case, you have this incredible brutality that is unimaginable that happened to these 1,400 israelis that were slaughtered. I want to ask you a question about what President Biden has said. This back and forth over the delay. Is israel delaying because israel wants to delay or because the United States is pressing them to delay and we also heard about conflict within the white house, two different factions in the white house on this issue. A few things going on here. One, its clear the administration, the Biden Administration wants to give time for these negotiations for hostage releases. Hamas is playing a clever game here by releasing a couple hostages at a time. Theyre sending the message, if you give us a few more days. If the Ground Invasion starts, its off. All negotiations are off. Theres no more hostage releases. Some in the administration that believe that the u. S. Government should be telling israel, hold off, give us more time. Theres 40 different nationalities represented among the hostages. Some duel passports, other people visiting israel, foreign workers. A lot of governments. Macron was just in israel. They say we want our people out. The Israeli Government is under a lot of pressure. At the same time, israel has mobilized 360,000 reservists. Thats larger than the standing armies of the u. K. And france combined. Israel has not had a war like this in a long time. The Supply Chains you need to set up, the logistics set up, additional training to get everyone fresh for battle. So its not clear to me that israel cant benefit from some of this time before it goes in and at the same time, they Hit Thousands of targets in Northern Gaza that will soften the battlefield for them so when they have to go in, its not action challenging an operation. I dont think the israeli war cabinet is frustrated by the delay, but theres not much longer that they can wait. Martha its a question given the complexity of where theyre being held of whether or not its even possible to extract these hostages. President biden said possible. If its real, it should be done. No question about it. The hostages are probably all over the place. A lot are probably in these underground maze of tunnels. Extracting them will be difficult. Theyre spread out among factions. Hamas doesnt have all of them. Palestinian Islamic Jihad has them. Theres talk about iran. Martha i was going to ask you about that. The idea that iran last time here, we talked about the american hostages in 1979 being marched around with blind folds on at the hands of iran terrorists. Now iran wants some of these hostages, they want them in iran for their own purposes. Yeah. Because iran recognizes what hamas recognizes, which is israel puts so much value on an individual human life. In 2006, we talked about this. Hostages. In 2011, israel release ed over 1,000 terrorists. We wrote about this story in our book. A friends girlfriend was murder by a palestinian terrorist. Stabbed to death. That girlfriend was released. He want to gaza. Started to work for hamas television. Remarried, has a life in gaza and responsible for the death of his girlfriend and many other people. Times 1,100. Some of the people that planned this operation were people that were released in that 2011 prisoner exchange. So iran realizes, wow, we can extract a lot from this israelis if we just get a handful of these hostages. I think the mind set in israel, im sensing, just based on anecdotal conversations, the mindset is beginning to change. They cant do these crazy lopsided exchanges without incentivizing people martha thats my sense. Its terrifying obviously for the families that have hostages there. Its hard to imagine that theyre going to release more members of hamas held in israel in these kind of exchanges for these individuals. So its an absolutely terrifying situation for them. Dan, great to have you with us. I hope you join us soon. Youre a great source on all of this. Thanks very much for being here. Thank you. Martha lets go live to Southern Israel where mike tobin is standing by with the very latest near the gaza strip. Hi, mike. Hi, martha. Last 20 minutes, we saw a Rocket Launch out of the gaza strip. The Cell Phone Apps that we use to tract the launches started alerting tel aviv was the target. So another long range Rocket Launch out of the gas strip. Before that We Saw Flares go up. A local of small arms fire, Tracer Rounds going up in the air. The soldiers all told us what they were dealing with was a Drone Infiltration right here next to the gaza border. Beyond that, the list of high value targets that israel claims to have struck is growing with every night. Now they claim they struck an Intelligence Manager for the i guess a deputy head of the Intelligence Director for hamas. He was a close associate of israels number 1 most wanted hamas activist. He was killed last night. Israel continues the air strikes in to the gaza strip. There was also an incursion in the gaza strip yesterday. It involved tanks and bul bulldozers. They were flattening out antitank batteries. The Defense Minister for israel says the Ground Invasion is happening. Its not far. It will happen when the conditions are right. It will be powerful. Our role is in the south front. We have no wish to expand the war but our forces will be ready if needed to. Israelis are pushing back against that Wall Street Journal reporting suggesting the Ground Invasion was delayed while the u. S. Got defenses in to place. Israel says they want to work in conjunction with u. S. Allies, but israel will decide when the Ground Invasion begins. Martha . Martha thanks, mike tobin in Southern Israel. Back here at home, the candidates running for president face a crucial question after the hamas attacks on israel. News around 900 u. S. Troops are deploying to the middle east, are they ready to be wartime commanders in chief potentially. Lets talk to one of those republican contenders, vivek ramaswamy. Vivek. Good to have you here. We heard that 2,000 u. S. Troops were in ready to deploy mode. Now 900 are deploying. What is your reaction to that . My reaction is im worried, martha, that were taking steps towards repeating the same mistakes that we have made in the past by sending our Sons And Daughters to fight in the middle east without defined objectives. The way i look at this is what hamas did to israel was subhuman, it was wrong. The u. S. Role is to stand diplomatically for israels right to defend themselves. They have a right to national selfdefense and existence. I think the u. S. Is at risk of muddying the waters. You hear those reports of israel being delayed because of u. S. Requests. It would be cleaner if the u. S. Stood diplomatically with an iron dome to prevent israel being criticized by the u. N. Or otherwise martha let me ask you this. If you were in this situation in the oval office and we know theres likely americans withing held among these hostages, would you not ask israel to go in until everything could be done to get the americans out . Were hearing that hamas is Holding Americans a tractor trailer border in to egypt and not letting them get through the gates. So how would you handle these american lives that are already in this situation . Not looking forward. This is already happening. What would you do in that moment . Exactly. If were talking about where we are right now, i dont believe a lot of our u. S. Bases are getting hit in iraq or syria. Lets talk about where we are right now. Top priority would be very clear. Getting american hostages back home is a top priority. America first includes all americans. If you strike u. S. Bases or u. S. Forces in the region, there will absolutely be severe consequences. Do that against the broader backdrop of clarity, that the u. S. Will not get militarily involved in this war but support israels right to defend itself. That would be the cleanest response martha so you say your priority would be to get americans out. You could step in tomorrow and this would be the situation. How would you get them out . What would you do . We have to look at whatever it takes to negotiate the exit of those hostages. I think theres a reasonable path. Hamas is sending a signal. I dont think hamas is truth worthy but they have released two at a time. Use that same pattern to get more out against the backdrop of knowing that the u. S. Will not engage militarily here. To the contrary, if you hit the u. S. Targets, youll have consequences to pay. U. S. Troops, bases or otherwise. Martha meaning youd hit iran . Or would you go directly to hamas . Who would you hit . You say consequences. What it would they look like . Well, look, the reality is, martha, if were Crystal Clear, were not going to participate in this war but Crystal Clear about hitting the u. S. , theyre not going to do it. The big part of the risk we should not have been in syria or iraq in the first place. Martha its easy to say now. It is. Martha youre running for president. Youre saying that would be a priority for you. Get the americans out. Youre not explaining what were hearing is that the white house is asking to delay until the americans come out. Two people at a time, that could go on for years. Look at the 444 days that they held americans in iran. Now tehran is talking about taking hostages to iran. There are middle east experts that are advising taking out iranian targets out now. Hitting their Nuclear Facilities now. When President Trump took out soleimani, things quieted down. Would you take that military action against iran in order to get them to back down and get these people back . I dont think that military action against iran right now or starting a war with iran or a ground war is in the u. S. Interest. Were in a window now if were clear that were not going to military engage in this conflict, yes, we stand for israel, we have a window to negotiate the release of the hostages now. This should be part of a broader exit from syria and iraq accordingly. Martha news to pull out of these places would be news to the iranian leadership. Thats what they want. America to be out of the region. Youre saying that more money for israel. You said thats it. No money. Without a clear plan or defined objectives. Israel is entering a ground war in gaza a prolonged ground war is not in our interest. If were going to get involved, we have to know whats happening. Hezbollah hits from the north. Israel is involved in a twofront war. The houthis said they would hit u. S. Targets and then were in another east. We spent 6. 5 trillion in iraq and afghanistan. If i may finish on this. Martha nobody wants to see this expand. Go ahead. The 6. 5 trillion we spent in iraq and afghanistan, the thousands that died, its easy to criticize that now. If we go back and understand the arguments that were being made then, theyre not that dissimilar for what were hearing now. I refuse to make those same mistakes. Do i stand for israels right to defend themselves . Absolutely i do. Iranian incursion have a lot of interest to make sure that doesnt happen. My moral obligations is here in the homeland. I wont send our Sons And Daughters to die without clear objectives. To the contrary, our real enemy is communist china is the real winner in this as were bogged down. That paves the way martha One Last Thing here. What happens to president s is that they have to deal with the situation in front of them. Not the situation that they ideally would like to see. If you send the signal that youre not going to defend israel and back out of the middle east, dont you think that the iranians say, well, this is our god ten opportunity. Lets get our nuclear weapon, lets make move in these areas with our proxies and you know, that theyre basically homefree to those goals. Its quite the opposite. Its quite the opposite. You have the arab states, saudi arabia and turkey have more interest to make sure iran doesnt get there. So yes, we have a vital objective to make sure iran is not nuclear equipped. Nobody is talking about the disastrous biden policy and with some republican support to open up Nuclear Transfer discussions to saudi arabia. I dont think its a coincidence that we see this play out after that potential discussion of Nuclear Technology to saudi arabia. Martha no, i think its obvious that those two things and this moment of this horrific attack against israel were linked. I think that thats they are. Martha its a very fair assessment. Thanks. Good to have you with us today, vivek. Right now theres an urgent man hunt that is underway. This image is a picture that we already had. Its not a live picture of joint base mcguire dix lakehurst. Theyve been posting on their Facebook Page moments ago, lockdown, lockdown. Active shooter reported on jbmdl, building 5231. All personnel are to lock down until further notice. All personnel outdoors should take cover. Thats the message that theyre receiving in what used to be fort dix in new jersey. Well keep a close eye and let you know if we get any images out of the Military Base there where theyre on lockdown for an active shooter. Well keep you up to date on that story as it evolves. This is the other story that weve been on since 6 30 last night and the desperate search is continuing at this hour. This man is still out there somewhere. Hes a gunman accused of slaughtering 18 people, injuring 13 others and just breaking hearts across this Close Knit Community in maine. The police say that they do not know where Armed And Dangerous 40yearold Robert Carter is. They know hes an army reservist, recently complaining after being hospitalized for a couple of weeks for Mental Illness that he had been Hearing Voices. Police say the shootings began after 7 00 at a Bowling Alley reportedly as a youth league was in full swing. One witness said he thought he was hearing a balloon pop. And then hid at the end of the alley past where the pins are up in to the machinery. Listen to this. We were inside. Bowling. Normal night. He just came in. There was a lot pop. I thought it was a balloon. I had my back to the door. As soon as i turned and saw with us not a balloon, he was holding a weapon. I booked it down the lane. I slid in to where the pins are and climbed in the machine and on top of the machines until the cops got there. Martha thank god. He got himself out of the line of fire. A lot of people did not. This is a heart breaking tragic situation. The gunman then made his way ten minutes and four miles away, drove his car very specifically to a local hangout. Police say a couple of hours after the massacre, they found his white subaru abandoned at a boat ramp. Its on the righthand side of that map. Nate foy is on this story and watching the new developments this hour. Hi, nate. Hi, martha. Were 20 hours in to this man hunt. Police still searching for the man who is responsible for the deadliest Mass Shooting in maines history. This spans multiple counties. You can see a heavy Law Enforcement in bowden and 25 miles east on the atlantic, a place called boothbay harbor. The coast guard is following up on a sighting there. They are trying to see if anything comes of that. We have not heard any more specifics from authorities today. They did provide gruesome horrible specifics about last night. You mentioned the 18 people. 13 people injured on top of that. This is a man who has documented Mental Health concerns according to Law Enforcement. Part of those Mental Health concerns included making threats to carry out a is shooting at a National Guard base here in maine and reportedly Hearing Voices and being committed to a Mental Health facility. Maine doesnt have red flag laws but something similar. Its called the yellow paper law. It allows Family Members to initiate the process of taking a loved ones guns if theyre a threat to themselves or others. Authorities were asked why that didnt happen in this case. I think those are all valid questions. Questions that were looking into now. Not questions that we can answer today considering that this occurred last night. Theres an active search. I can appreciate the questions but not something that we can answer now. Martha, the New York Post reports cards Family Members believe he may have targeted people at the bar and Bowling Alley because he believed people talked poorly about him at those locations. Authorities found cards vehicle at the boat landing. Areas schools are shut down. Local authorities are using every resource that they have to find and arrest him. Were learning that maines senators are expected here in lewiston. The governor spoke earlier today saying it will be a long Recovery Process but they will heal together here in maine. Back to you. Martha thanks, nate. Lets bring in jack jupin from the fbi swat team and president and ceo of jupin international. This is obviously a terrifying situation. He is on the loose. Youve got colleges in both of these towns, bowdoin college. This is a very historic area. Boothbay harbor as nate mentioned. Theres a killer on the loose in this otherwise beautiful part of the country rocking this community. What is your take at this hour . Its an unfortunate situation because he has a little head start on everybody, right . As you noted, martha, his vehicle was found near a boat ramp. I know for a fact that the suspect here has multiple water craft registered to him. Another thing that i have noted that i did on my own is i looked at his facebook. I also look at his tik tok. He had multiple videos that he had posted that allegedly are husband. The videos have been taken down, but the audio was still there. The audio basically states that the United States government and the army has ruined his life. Hes going to make a spectacular event and get back and pay back the u. S. For what they have done to him. Martha obviously hes in an emotional mental distress. He was in a hospital for two weeks. He had complained to somebody who has passed this along, who was close to him apparently, that he had been Hearing Voices. Obviously this is a huge concern. The laws in maine do not prevent him from having an automatic weapon, an ar15like weapon it appears. Can you clarify that for us . Yeah, he had an ar15, which is an automatic rifle as you said. Its still a break down in the system. He did have Mental Health issues. The United States military was aware of that. He did voice his opinion to several people that he was Hearing Voices, as you mentioned and that he was going to shoot up the base. Martha what do they need, jack . Why cant someone like this be under supervision . Hospitalized until they can figure out whats going on . 100 . You know, the United States government should have taken away his weapons, i believe, at that point in time. Especially if it was them that actually pushed him to seek treatment. Normal treatment, if youre under suicide watch, its about 72 hours. He stayed two weeks. Thats an extremely long time. Im not a Mental Health professional. Thats an extremely long time for somebody who is talking about committing mass murder. If you listen to his tik tok videos and the audio of those, you know, he continually says tik tok took him down and his voice is going to be heard. He said that several times on several different videos. Its very disturbing to hear what hes saying. If you have a chance to hear them, theyre still up from my understanding. Theyre attributed to him. Now, i cant see him, i dont know for a fact, cannot confirm its him but its is attributed to him that its his voice and its him stating this. Martha hopefully they can bring him in very soon. Its a horrific case. Weve seen cases like this before. It was a Church Case In The South of someone who had his gun, i believe, taken away from the military and came back in a similar situation. So thank you, jack. Good to have you here. Well keep everyone posted. Were watching this active situation in new jersey as well. What was formally called fort dix. The head of israels Holocaust Memorial reacts as the u. N. Secretary general offers up a new clarification for these remarks about the hamas Terror Attacks in israel. Its important to also recognize the effects by hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian People have been subjected to 56 years of occupation. Martha well get reaction to that in a moment. Were also going to speak with a new York College Student that was forced to basically be bauer caded in to this library to avoid antiisrael protesters that were looking at them through the windows and banging on the windows and doors. People were pounding at the door, menacing them, looking to gain access and god know whats the they were looking to do student felt afraid for their safety, feared for their lives. Just the three of us girls. I never thought twice about feeding her kibble. But about two years ago, i realized she was overweight. She was always out of breath. Thats when i decided to introduce the farmers dog to her diet. Its just so fresh that she literally gets bubbles in her mouth. Now shes a lot more active, shes able to join us on our adventures. And were all able to do things as a family. Get started at betterforthem. Com i try to put my arm around any vet that i can. Absolutely. At newday usa, thats what were doing. We put our arm around the veterans. When i think of the veteran out there, he needs to refi his home he may want to purchase and we can help them and provide that Financial Solution for them and their families. Its a great, rewarding feeling. Everybody in the company, they have that deference and that respect and that love for the veteran that makes this company so unique. Id like to take a moment to address my fellow veterans, because i know so many of you have served our country honorably. One of the benefits that we as a country give you as a veteran is your eligibility for a va loan, which lets you buy a home with no down payment. Now, theres no reason to rent when you can own. Helping veterans buy homes. Thats newday usa. My name is caron and im from brooklyn. I work for the city of new york as a police administrator. I oversee approximately 20 people and my memory just has to be sharp. I always hear people say, you know, when you get older, you know, people lose memory. I didnt want to be that person. I decided to give prevagen a try. My memory became much sharper. I remembered more ive been taking prevagen for four years now. Prevagen. At stores everywhere without a prescription. We now have an allclear. Thats good news. Its all okay. The u. N. Secretary general walked back a comment that he made about the devastating attacks that left 1,400 people disin israel. The brutality did not happen in a vacuum, he said. He went on to say this. The Palestinian People have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation. They have seen their land steadily plagued by violence, their economy stifled, people displace and and homes demolished. Martha Gutierrez Posted On X the grievances of the Palestinian People cannot justify the horrific attacks by hamas. The attacks cannot justified the collective punishment of the Palestinian People. Were honored and glad to have with us danny, chairman of the world holocaust remembrance center. Danny, thanks for being here. Its good to have you with us today. Thanks for having me. Tell me what goes through your mind when you hear the original comments by the u. N. General secretary and then he tried to sort of fix it and did he fix it as far as your concerned with that second comment . Well, what i felt is a mixture of anger and disappointment. I have a personal relationship with secretary guterres. I know him. Nevertheless, as i said, its a mixture of indignation and anger. There are wrong doings that you can explained by context. As the Secretary General said that didnt dont happen in a vacuum. Its sadistic, brutal barbaric act, mass murder that happened october 7th, what context . What context is relevant to this . What context is relevant to the rape and murder of a young woman . What context can be relevant to executing Point Blank Party Goers in a Music Festival . This is you know, Terror Attacks, you can manage the Secretary General saying theyre part of the proverbial circle of violence. This was a completely different level. This was barbaric, this was savage. The most Despicable Act Of Human Savagery that you can imagine. Trying to put it in moral context is a huge mistake. Martha so the Wall Street Journal, the disgrace of the United Nations on israel. They said the Secretary General abandons israel a state that the u. N. Helped to create. Give everyone a brief History Lesson on the connection between the creation of the state of israel and the creation of the United Nations, which may be the Secretary General isnt aware of. You know, to a large extend, the United Nations were created as a result of the holocaust, the extermination of six million just. The United Nation was established to in order to pry vent Something Like that from happening again. By the way, i differ from the opinion with the opinion this was created by the u. N. Resolutions. Israel was created by the fighting of our soldiers, of our underground movement that defeated the british and then defeated those that tried to annihilate israel since it was established. Its true, the United Nations has been one sided, completely attacking israel. Our late Foreign Minister said, if Algeria Proposes to decide that the earth is flat and israel is to blame, the u. N. Would approve that. The Secretary General, having those words regarding israel, that is for us. Were used to The One Sidedness of the United Nations. Martha thanks very much, dani. The chairman of yad vashem. Very good to have you. We appreciate your time. All right, everybody. Take a look at this. This is a sign at a Pro Palestinian Rally near a New York University here in manhattan saying you can see this young Woman Holding this pink homemade sign over her head. It says please keep the world clean with a Star Of David and the colors of the israeli flag apparently in a trash can is the image that you see there. Jewish College Students saying that another pro palestinian demonstration in New York City took a scary turn for them. They were in the library at cooper union with protesters banging on the door. Watch what happened to these students. So taylor roseland shot that video. She joins me now along with her attorney, gerard feliti, a senior counsel at the law fair project. Thanks for being with us today. Taylor, lets start with you. Tell us what happened. What happened when you were there. Well, it was just a regular protest for the first couple hours with people on different sides. Just holding up posters and chanting what they wanted to say. After that, once i felt like the protest was over a group of studentsed, ended up in the library when the rally decided to try to get in to the library as well. Very angry and very loud. The school barricaded the Library Doors and locked us in there along with some other students to keep us safe from the rally that they allowed to enter in to the building. Martha so what do you think that the school that the University Needs to do about this situation . Im not sure what i feel like they need to do, for do i exactly know how to respond to that. I feel like they should be doing something. Martha gerard, i heard a Panel On Fox Business earlier. One of the students said that adults need to get involved here. This cant happen. I think as taylor just said, the protest was peaceful for quite some time. That seemed to be manageable on both sides. This kind of intimidation and banging on the windows and having to be locked in for your safety feels like the University Needs to address this situation. Dont they . They absolutely do. This is part of the problem. The problem is that the university system, whether its cooper union or other colleges have failed to adequately address these concerns and provide for the safety of jewish students and all students. Were seeing jew hatred at its finest. People are now chanting the slogans of foreign terrorist organizations. This is what these colleges need to be addressing. They should not be allowing protests to reach the point where jewish students are intimidated let alone feel unsafe and hide in the library because nothing is being done. This student holding this poster and other things like this talking about wanting a clean world, taylor. What goes through your mind when you see this . You know, where is this coming from . When you look at a young woman, probably about your age, where is this coming from . Personally i dont feel threatened by pro palestinian rallies or anything in that sense. Everyone has their right to be doing that. I did feel threatened when there were chants calling for the murder of jews being chanted at me from my fellow students. Martha did you ever think youd experience anything like this at your college . No, definitely not. Martha did you sense before october 7 that there were these sorts of emotions that were underlying on your campus . That obviously sprung to the surface when they watched what happened in israel and they saw the response . No. Prior to the events of october 7, i never felt ann we talk about the concerns about safe spaces on college campuses. You know, trans issues and all sorts of issues that College Students have spoken out about in the past. You know, these individuals, are they aware of, you know, what hamas is capable of and how intolerant hamas is . I definitely am not sure how educated people on either side of the rally were yesterday. I can say that many people hosting posters didnt know what they were flying. Martha thanks, taylor, for being here. Gerard, thank you for being here as well. So also joining us now, dr. Marc siegel, Langone Medical Center pro professor of medicine. Good to talk to you. Your father went to cooper union. You listened to this conversation with this young woman. You see these horrific signs that are being held up. What goes through your mind . You know, martha, as i said before, i think theres a lack of understanding history here. Thats really key. Your previous guest from yad vashem marked about it. I wonder if theyre aware about the ovens, that the jews were going in to showers to be clean . Now youre saying keep the world clean . Is that a reference to incinerating jews . I agree with the student here. Which is its one thing to have a protest that is peaceful. Even if its ill informed. As you say, if its related to awoke culture that doesnt understand what hamas is, monstrous murders causining atrocities. Why would you threaten the people that have been threatened and in israel and murdered and raped and defiled . Thats not what universities are supposed to be doing. Im okay for the exchange of ideas. When it reaches that point, its deeply disturbing and needs to be pulled back. One more thing. Its also shouldnt be that you have to be jewish, mash that. Linda mills, the president of New York University did a film on holocaust. Her mother was in the holocaust. Shes been terrifically pro holocaust. Christina paxon is pro israel. The students are fighting back against them. Why does it have to be that way . Martha it is a lack of understanding the history behind all of this. At least to a certain extent. What do you think these universities should do, mark . One thing that really struck my and i mentioned this a moment ago, fox business had a panel. This young woman said were all experiencing were hating each other at her campus. She said we need grownups to step in because we always have emotions that we cant even process and were looking at these signs about our religion. So where are the grownups . Where is the leadership at these universities to understand what is going on and figure out there is an education opportunity in all of this. Z. Has to come from the top down. You said it exactly right. Has to come from the leadership of the universities. As i said before, kindness and courage go through the same part of the brain as fear and loathing. Lets look at the idea that if were kind to each other, well feel better about automatic of this. Look at the idea that the people i disagree with david mamet who said does dont go back. Go back and be courageous. Martha thanks, dr. Marc. Thanks, martha. Martha today Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich is celebrating his 32nd Birthday in prison in moscow. The russians arrested him almost seven months ago on accusations of spying, which the journal has vehemently denied. He has vehemently denied. The white house has as well. When they said today, they are still working to free both gershkovich and also u. S. Marine veteran paul whelan, who is in prison in russia as well. We want to keep their story in front of everyone in the midst of all that is going on as well. 32nd Birthday. He looks for ward to hopefully celebrating the next one at home with his family where he should be. So the white house says the war in the middle east is not distracting from the efforts to bring gershkovich and whalen home, which is obviously what Everyone Wants to hear that is the story for this thursday, october 26th.
