The president will address the nation here 8 00 p. M. Eastern tomorrow from the oval office to talk about that war and whats happening in ukraine. Well have complete coverage of that here on fox. The president s visit comes as antiisrael protests are happening in several cities. The Terror Group Hezbollah called for an unprecedented day of anger. Here in washington massive protests at the u. S. Capitol compound called for a a ceasefire. And while israel says it will allow egypt to deliver limited quantities of humanitarian aid into gaza strip. Senior correspondent mike tobin is in southern israel again tonight. Good evening, mike. Mike good evening, bret. An israeli admiral says hamas inflated casualty figures while accused of bombing hospital. The evidence shows behind the hospital and palestinians caused it. A clean up in the aftermath of an explosion at a Gaza Hospital whereby the blood of the most Vulnerable People caught in the conflict was shed. We were just sitting here and suddenly there was an explosion. [explosion] the Hamas Run Health Ministry was quick to blame an israeli airstrike. Israel spent the day countering that narrative. The idf presenting evidence that the blood shed was caused by errant jihad missile. It is 6 59 and this is what happened. An Israeli Television station released footage of the Rocket Launch recorded on their camera. They stay points toward the gaza strip and reveals the rockets were launched from that area. So that is proof of the fact that it came from the gaza strip. Footage from al jazeeras camera appears to show the rocket falling neither Hospital Site and then the fiery explosion. Cctv also caught the apparent failed launch on tape. President biden has signaled support for israels claims. Our Defense Department says its highly unlikely that it was israeli. Now, im not suggesting that hamas deliberately did it, either. Got a lot of shoe string. Israeli Defense Forces released further evidence they say is an intercepted phone call between hamas operatives acknowledging the rocket came from Palestinian Islamic jihad. They are saying it belong to the Palestinian Islamic jihad. Its from us . It looks like it. Despite the evidence, as violent demonstrations flared across the arab world. [chanting] hamas fanned the flames. I call on all people the arab and islamic nations go out now condemning this massacre, this brutality, let this nation stand as one. And the blockade at the gaza strip could be ending with israel agreeing to let civilian aid enter from egypt. Egypts president said some 20 trucks were ready to go. President biden said if the trucks went to hamas, the aid would end. Israel said if the aid went to hamas, the deliveries could be taken. Bret President Biden as mentioned is on his way home tonight after spending fewer than 8 hours in israel on the ground. While there, he pledged his support of israel committing aid money for the palestinians as well. And reiterating that his top priority is the release of american hostages held by hamas. President biden talked to the reporters in the press cabin and he expressed more confidence than anyone we have heard anywhere in the world that those hostages will be freed. Were going to get people out but no detail now. Peter President Biden believes he got a lot done in seven and a half hours. I got no pushback. Virtually none. Let me say it again, i got no pushback. Peter the president s main point making sure 100 million in aid he announced today makes it to innocent civilians and isnt intercepted by hamas. I was very blunt about the need to support getting humanitarian aid to gaza. Get it to gaza and do it quickly. Peter more formal remarks on the ground he highlighted the military might the u. S. Is sending to the region without ever naming iran. The state or any other hostile Actor Thinking about attacking israel remains the same as it was a week ago, dont. Dont, dont. But, despite all the noise, Top Democrats are not convinced. The idea that hamas should remain in place, that there should be a ceasefire after everything they did is very, very bad idea. Peter Progressive Democrats Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib blamed israel tuesday without any evidence for a deadly Hospital Explosion and said thats reason enough for a ceasefire. President Biden Disagrees and says israel can defend itself. There is no rationalizing it. No excusing it. Period. And now for the first time, President Biden is suggesting an Israeli Ground operation into gaza may not happen. We had a long talk about that and what alternatives there are. Peter a few days ago when i asked President Biden what worried him about a potential Israeli Ground invasion into gaza, he said death and as you just heard there, now it may not happen. We are also watching as officials here at the Biden White House shift more towards foreign policies. He is going to give an Oval Office Address tomorrow night 8 00 p. M. A second setback in as many days leaving several members of the Republican Caucus to float new ideas while others are urging congressman jim jordan to keep fighting. Jordan got a few new supporters but four republicans who previously backed jordan voted for someone else today. Former House Speaker Kevin Mccarthy thinks jordan should stay in the race. I had from november all the way to january to work on winning speaker. Jim jordan has less than 48 hours. I look, i think for the perspective jim as the nominee, let him work through this. Mccarthy needed 15 rounds before members elected him. There were six votes for mccarthy today. And even a vote for former speaker john boehner. Mccarthy thinks jordan can still win, others are skeptical. Carlos gimenez of florida voted for mccarthy. Im pretty confident that the next ballot youll have more people drop. Those numbers to me indicate that he has a really big problem, you know, with our conference. Or that our conference really is looking for somebody else. Democrats embraced jordans defeat. They are trying for democracy in our country delay insurrectionist rejected by the republicans again as their candidate for speaker. But today and yesterday, that was an assault on our democracy as jim jordan assaulted our democracy on january 6th. No vote for speaker until after 12 tomorrow at the earliest, if at all. Congressman gottheimer, let me talk about what you are working on in a bipartisan way and essentially to replenish iron dome specifically for israel. Claudia and i are working on multiple efforts together. The most recent one 113 members of congress joined with us to say that we need to continue to get israels back as a country, as we are right now to make it clear until every hostage is freed and every terrorist is crushed and killed. That we need to continue to support israel. We need to hold iran accountable. We need to make sure we hold qatar and turkey accountable for any of their affiliation with hamas. And so thats what we stood by with our colleagues in a bipartisan way. Bret so the specifics are supplemental appropriations. Operation swords of iron, 2 billion for iron dome kevins system. Counter short range. New funding to run through 2025. Thats a broad view of it. Yeah. Thank you to josh, especially, its almost like our ooffices are together with all this work we are doing in important time and difficult time for people in israel and across that whole region. But right now what we are trying to do is support the iron dome. This is a defensive system that has been phenomenal in saving lives and its going to be running out and were trying to replenish that of course, its going to take time to get that up and running. Obviously these things arent created overnight. And we want to get started on that because we know we are on a timeline and as things continue to progress and unfortunately had a negative right now in israel, we want to make sure that we are working together and strengthening in a very bipartisan measure. Bret we as a country do a lot of trade with israel. We dont talk about it a lot but there is a lot of business back and forth. A lot of people dont understand israel is, ever since we signed a Free Trade Agreement with the country of israel, we have about 49 billion a year in trade 2500 u. S. Firms are active in israel right now industries across the United States and israel that are critical. This is a really important part of our relationship with israel and why we need to maintain this strong relationship and defend this greatest democratic ally that we have in the middle east. Exactly, the democracy in the region, the key historically has been in our partnership to fight against terror, hamas, hezbollah, palestinian jihad, you are now seeing what happened when they are rearing their ugly head. We need to make sure that we are with israel but the depth of the relationship on the fence, on economic relationship, on health, explains why its our most critical ally in the region. Bret congressman, i had one your colleagues on recently Congressman Goldman. And we were talking about the speakers race and, obviously, you know, you are talking about an appropriations act that cant go forward unless congress is going forward. Heres Congressman Goldman. Bret Congressman Goldman if republicans cant get that number would some democrats do you think possibly would just vote to move on. Well, we would welcome bipartisan support in support of Hakeem Jeffries as the speaker. Bret ha ha ha, yeah. We sit here watching chaos and function. Bret thats wasnt exactly Common Ground on that. Fellow new yorker Hakeem Jeffries. Bret gottheimer you are a part and leadership of the Problem Solvers Caucus the democratic side of that there is 64, you know, democrats and republicans. This is a problem. You could solve it if you its not your job as a democrat to support a republican. But you could walk out of the chamber and not be present and suddenly they have a speaker and you could work on your bipartisan acts is that fair to say . We have been working for weeks on finding working on finding Common Ground together and frankly, you know, i believe that if we did a little more bipartisan and agreed to it, some small changes that we can get more Bipartisan Legislation to the floor, i think you would see actually a lot of support from both sides and helping them, obviously its their caucus. Obviously they. Bret its a political thing i get it. By the way i think we could. Other thing we have been working on which im a big supporter of in a bipartisan way is saying listen, they need some more time to work things out. Give them some more time but give Patrick Mchenry who is the pro tem more time to sit in the chair get support for israel, ukraine, American People up and running. Make life more affordable for folks at home there are deals to behood. We have been working a lot together. There are great people like Claudia Cowan willing to sit aty tenney to work things out. Have you voted twice for jim jordan. Fallen short a couple times now and maybe lost this last time. You understand what im saying if somebody leaves the room the number goes from 217 to maybe 21 or fewer and you maybe have a problem solved. Right now it doesnt seem like its getting solved. Yeah, i agree. Not coincidentally but josh and i came in together as freshmen and we signed a commitment to civility by the way in our freshman year. Josh is one of the signers of that to Work Together with republicans and democrats. We both d do that. Bipartisan to put out bills that work in a way. Anytime a group called the reagan oneil club. Equal number of republicans and democrats and its purely social. And thats what we do foggy. I think right now, i think there has to be a consensus on the republican side. Someone that i think will be acceptable to all. And i think we are trying to get to that it looks to me like jim jordan is not going to get across the finish line with some of the more blue state republicans. And including new york. I think he would be a fine speaker. I think we also have to look at something else. We have a Majority Leader in Steve Scalise who is not going to be running for speaker again. I have heard reportedly Kevin Mccarthy is not going to be running for speaker again. We have a speaker which right now josh makes an interesting suggestion who is basically more of an administrative role. Bret Patrick Mchenry. Pro tem the speaker chair itself. So we can focus on getting, you know, keeping the Majority Leader with our mission, our agenda, what we are trying to do as republicans and look to more of a administrative task. And i sty my colleagues who are voting against whoever we put up for speaker on the republican side, this is probably only for a year. We go through elections and we decide who is going to be the speaker again. I dont know if anybody wants to go through a motion to vacated the chair again. We learned that is not a good thing to do. Especially while we have wars that we are fighting, two front wars. Bret would that work on your side, do you think . I think extending the pro tem withstanding what work we need to and sit down and figure out here is the agenda we have to do for the country. Bret what do you demand in order for that to happen. I think extending the pro item and Patrick Mchenry getting the country back to work. Address, make sure there is not another shutdown. Brutal to the country. Make sushi we get resources to israel and ukraine. And make sure we deliver things for the country and for people here. That is, you know, like that to me is my requirement is we get back to work. Bret you have 32 democrats in that Problem Solvers Caucus. Thats a big swing. We got behind this very idea last week a bunch of us in the problem solvers this is a good idea. We have been working in a bipartisan on this idea. Listen. Bret figure it out. They have to make a decision how they feel about all these things. And i understand were just in some ways, you know, over here on the side while they work out their business. But i know thats what the country wants. They want us to get back to work. Listen look what is going on right now in israel. You realize what the stakes are to fight terror, to destroy hamas. Right . We have work to do. They just killed americans and are Holding Americans hostage. I met with families today. It is and what they did to people. The unthinkable. Right . Barbaric. Bret i have heard a lot of republicans, praise the president how is he saying things and what he is saying. Some have said they want more focus on irans role here. But, for the most part, the administration is hitting the marks. Is that fair . I think the administration started out very strong. I think im very concerned about the rhetoric that have heard about iran and backing off on iran. We need to continue to put pressure on iran and josh has been tremendous on that. Both josh and i actually wrote a letter to our colleagues in europe about Snap Back Sanctions in the u. N. That expired today. We could have had Snap Back Sanctions had they been more aggressive to push this through on iran to continue that pressure that would have brought them back down in their ability to enrich uranium down to levels prior to jcpoa. We have tried. We have done a lot of those issues. We have to continue to stand up for israel. And cut through the cutter and protests and a lot of these things. Americans need to understand how critically important that relationship is and its a bipartisan relationship. I think, bret, the president and i would say the president has been incredit i can bably strong. The Secretary Of State has been incredibly strong. Leaders of both parties have been incredibly strong. This is the kind of thing we should be coming strongly behind. Our key ally, right . And we should as a country be focused on we stand here together. This is not a bipartisan thing. Of course the real concern for israel right now would be if hezbollah decides to open up a second front along israel wants northern border. That is something the military and israel has warned hezbollah about, threatening annihilation were they to take that step. Already there has been back and forth shelling between the two sides during the week and that has intensified in recent days. With hezbollah launching antitank missile, wounding three israelis, israelis responding with tank fire. Israel also killing five hezbollah fighters who tried to infiltrate into israel. Forces trained and supported by iran, a Terrorist Organization named by the u. S. Of course a much more powerful foe against israel than hamas. Their fighters have Combat Experience on the ground in syria. And their weapons go far beyond Anything Hamas has. They have long range rockets that could hit anywhere inside israel. And precision guided missiles, thousands of them that could cause tremendous damage, civilian damage inside israel. That threat of annihilation, when you come here to lebanon is real. Because, when you look at this economy, it is teetering. The currency falling apart. 80 of the people below the poverty line, that threat is real. There could be major collapse if they get dragged into a war here. Bret, back to you. Bret Steve Harrigan live on the ground in beirut. Steve, thank you. Lets bring in fox news chief political analyst brit hume. Brit, good evening. You know, i just want to get to you digest what we have seen over the last day here with this strike on the hospital which now u. S. Intelligence truly believes is islamic jihad, a rocket that fell onto the hospital causing that explosion. Israeli Defense Forces have that as well and they look to Video Evidence to prove that. What do you think about the coverage of that since the beginning and what we have heard since this . Bret well, the coverage has been another media fiasco, it seems to me, bret. Because, look, any story on this would properly report what the palestinians were saying. But they would also be informed, i would think, of the fact that the Palestinian Health authority or whatever the organization is called that put out this original claim that israel was responsible, is governed by hamas. So this is what the terrorists are saying about an alleged Terror Attack from israel. So, you had mentioned it, but you treat it with great skepticism. Not what happened in far too corner of the media and western media in general. There were huge headlines, yes, they all said this is what the palestinians were saying. But give you the impression that this is what some innocent palestinians caught up all of this were saying. Thats not the case. You know, we have just had, among one of the most hideous atrocities that we have seen in a very long time carried out by hamas just in the last week or 10 days. And the idea that you would parrot propaganda from that source as if it were legitimate, something legitimate to report without great skepticism seems to me is a terrible mistake and, of course, there are members of congress and others who said the same thing. Bret yeah. One of them, Rashida Tlaib a democratic congresswoman from michigan that x post is still up. Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital killing 500 palestinians, doctors, children, patients, just like that. Potus, this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate ceasefire and deescalate. Your approach opened my eyes and many palestinian americans and Muslim Americans like me, we will remember where you stood. This is after the president said all he said about the knowledge of whether a this what happened. It is still up. This post. And just recently in the past few minutes she has been talking to other protesters using the same language. Other democrats are now posting saying dont believe hamas. So there is this battle publicly over this information and were going to see that. Hakeem jeffries, the minority leader, the democratic leader in the house was called upon today to denounce what tlaib and others were saying. He refused. Nancy pelosi, she refused as well. So, while they may say dont believe hamas, they are not willing to call out their own colleagues apparently for what they have been saying, which we can almost perfectly believe was false. It is really distressing and, of course, you know, the media have some role in this i suppose. There is no excuse at this stage for someone like Rashida Tlaib or nickels to be saying that stuff. Bret brit, very quickly i want you to weigh in having that conversation with the democrat and Republican Congress members about the speaker and going forward. And this proposition that you empower the speaker pro tem and try to get things moving . Brit you know, it seems to me that would be an acceptable solution to any reasonable person because its not permanent. Its just for the shortterm benefit of getting the house open and allowing certain measures that most people can agree on to pass. But these hard core republican insurgents who turned out Kevin Mccarthy from his job and now are promoting jim jordan, im not sure they will sit still for that jordan has lost a vote overnight. He was worse off than he was the other day whether we talked about this. So im not sure they are going to be willing to go along with anything like that. Were particularly vigilant to the possibility that lone actors here in the United States could in some way out of inspiration misguided inspiration that they draw from the conflicts in the middle east. You mentioned openness before. The head of canadas Intelligence Agency said he and his counterparts near to do, quote, Soul Searching in the wake of the hamas attacks. Israel known to have two premier Intelligence Agencies facing the reality that both agencies missed the warning signs. Bret, i asked the fbi director in so many words if there is any soul serving or lessons underway inside the fbi. Is there anything being done differently that the fbi is looking at the way they can do things to just make sure that everybody stays safe . Well, as part of our analysis of the situation and our approach to the situation, were constantly making sure that we got the latest intelligence, that were looking at all the intelligence thats available in the right way, testing our own assumptions, our own prior assessments to make sure that we have anticipated any threats that can arise. The director went on to warn about the reason is he here speaking this week and that is china. He says china is the biggest threat when it comes to stealing Intellectual Property and innovation from the United States. Joran van der sloot was sentenced to 20 years in prison for extorting Natalee Holloways mother beth and as a part of his guilty plea deal he gave a gruesome confession. Van der sloot claims he was kissing Natalee Holloway on the beach in aruba. He tried to take it a step further and she said no. She ended up kneeing him in the crotch. He then kicked her in the head and smashed her in the face with a cinder block. And then dragged Ler Into The Ocean by himself. A short while ago i sat down with beth highway, natalies mother she tells fox she thinks the confession is accurate in part because it was corroborated by a polygraph and multiple fbi teams and she says she feels victorious. Even as shocking and you get the real answers as to what happened with your loved one like that the lee, the not knowing is worse. Not knowing is Mortar Temperature russ. And there was a powerful moment during court today. Natalee holloways mother gave a victim impact statement. When she mentioned van der sloots own daughter and then looked van der sloot in the face and told him, quote you look like hell, she revealed to us she felt like van der sloot has two Pressure Points that she had to press. One day before the bombing the idea spokesperson said quote they had warned evacuating all of the hospitals specifically the alahli Baptist Hospital which was hit as well as five other hospitals. Some people said why did they give that warning if they werent going to follow up with that of course now following up with that american intelligence has said and i trust our intelligence it definitely was the bad guys here. But i do see and i have seen specifically with jordan and egypt, i want to say 180 but definitely a change with hey, we stabbed with israel, this is terrible and do not cross that line with gaza. And the reason is the palestinian people. We are seeing horrific videos of mothers on both sides of this, and when i say both sides of this, both sides of the border, gaza and israel, Mothers Holding dead children and crying. I think you would have to be dead not to care about that as a mother you know that bothers me. But, with Rashida Tlaib, she is palestinian, and i dont feel that she is speaking prohamas but she is speaking propalestinian people and she, like many other, want either a ceasefire or they want freedom for the palestinian people. I would call it effectively prohamas, actually. And when you see the clip that we just played, the crowd starts shouting shame. Not at her for lying about what happened, not at the people who actually bombed the parking lot at the hospital. They didnt actually destroy the hospital. But at israel. The jewish state that isnt responsible for what happened. Because they are fixated on a narrative for various reasons that everything is always israels fault. What an absolute disgrace that she and other members of congress, a handful of them are perpetuating this lie even after the evidence has come to the fore. Theres a huge chain of effects here that came out of this false narrative about this Hospital Parking Lot that i agree with everything that guy just said there. Is really the only capable partner here able to talk to all the different members here. Able to sit down with them and meet and perhaps achieve something. But i dont think that we have a clear idea of what we want to achieve. I think behind the scenes, you know, President Biden and the team there are trying to kind of slow the roll. They want to engage in humanitarian aid to the people of gaza and the like. But, you know, within the context of israels response to this, as time goes on, the level of things that they can do shrinks. And their ability to affect that, you know, in a way that will actually achieve their aim, which should be cutting off the head of hamas and making sure that nothing like what we saw on october 7th is ever able to happen again. We had two members, democrat and republican, talking about possibly democrats getting behind this empowering of the speaker pro tem.
