Kind of calm but a couple hours ago it was anything but. This place was hit by a hamas militant. Luckily the israeli iron dome defenses were in place and pretty much knocked them all down but it was happening all around us. That in response, we believe, to some of the strongest series of air strikes that is real has sent towards dpaz a and hamas militant sites. The last 24 hours will Something Like 750 bombs dropped doing all sorts of damage, of course, to hamas but also civilians caught in the cross fire. And significant reports, the most significant news of the day, will, that small Commando Groups of Israeli Forces, could be one, could be a few, theres been a couple of versions of this, have gone into northern gaza. They have clashed with hamas militants but their main mission, it seems to be, in a small pincher movement really, is to try and find the hostages, the 150 hostages, israelis, americans, other nationalities, and there are signs, there are some reports that are not confirmed that they have dom up with some crisis, come up with some leads. This in advance of a possible fullscale land incursion. Weve been seeing that build up for the past several days. Tanks, artillery, how witnessesers already in action on the other side of the border as well as Tens Of Thousands of reservists come into place. But yes, those numbers loom, not just the hostages but 1300 dead here on the israeli side. 1900 dead over on the gaza side, and the fear i with a large scale land incursion, those numbers could soar. Back to you will. And the other number greg were paying attention to is the number of hours left on this deadline. The clock is getting close to striking the metaphorical midnight here just hours before israels deadline has essentially expired in its warning to hamas. If im going to be very honest with the American People, i think we need to come to grips with some of the importantest nature of our southern border and our own security vulnerabilities. We are a sophisticated nation with many resources but i dont know that we are really prepared in the way we should be to mitigate a threat the likes of which is reel has just encountered. That was a small microcosm of something that could occur here within the United States. So its real. I like to tell people that the threat is highly credible. But we do have a a to fix these and thats to go back to the trump era doctrines with what we had with our Foreign Policy and some of our natural resiliency in the homeland. Well what comes next looks incredibly difficult and terrifying and bloody. Were talking about, i would assume, whether or not its a Hostage Rescue or an offensive on hamas, were talking about urban warfare, talking about door to door and not to even mention the underground bunkers and tunnels in gaza. Youre absolutely right. I think the complexities of warfare in very close rocks sim is the that you find in regions like gaza among many others is at best chaotic. At worst it can be a nightmare. So the advantage that the israelis have is the extracticality of some of their training and scenario based modules to help condition them for these sorts of environments. They also have amazing resources with tools and canines and technology and other things to mitigate and make them more effective in close quarters, environments underground areas where some traditional resources becomes more challenging and strained. So i can say that they trained extensively for missions such as this. The unfortunate reality is they train for missions like this because theyre always living under a heightened state of threat and preparedness. And jim i know you were Army Special Forces but please tell me ive characterized this difficulty correctly. Were talking about idf, Israeli Special forces entering into gaza into an urban environment, vertical in many cases, Apartment Buildings and underground. I wouldnt assume that mas is wearing a marked uniform easily identifiable as a combatant. Theyve got on top of that Human Shields. Theyre around every corner as youre making your way through this environment. I just cant think, and i say this humbly to you jim because i did not serve and both you men heroically did, i cannot think of a more difficult environment. There isnt one and the difficulty for the idf is hamass strategy is to get civilians killed. So they place their headquarters in mosques, in hospitals, in schools, and they do that so that they can gain casualties and have people talk about that and use that as a pressure to stop israel from doing what needs to be done, which is to remove hamas entirely. One thing i think people should realize is all of those are war crimes by hamas, not by the israelis. Every casualty, civilian and military in this entire operation, that blood is on the hands of hamas. And i think the idf does a tremendous job of following the laws of land warfare to try and minimize civilian casualties, but theyre in a situation, this Nightmare Scenario of having to go building to building, tunnel to tunnel. Civilians are going to diane we feed to expect that because removing hamas makes it less likely civilians in gaza or israel will die again. Today we understand according to Israeli Military that is Rally Infantry troops and tanks entered the gaza strip to conduct limited operations. This was a twopart event. First they were looking for information about the hostages that were taken into gaza by hamas, and, second, they were trying to destroy or kill any of the militants that are still along the border. Both things that indicate a Ground Operation could be eminent. All of this taking place, as along the northern border things are heating up. We know that there was an exchange of artillery fired today between the Lebanese Army and also the israeli army, and then additionally in a separate incident there was small arms fire from the Lebanese Militant Group hezbollah toward idf soldiers. Now the israelis responded striking different targets in Southern Lebanon with a drone. This is a significant escalation and the ladder continues to escalate on the northern front, part of the reason so many israeli troops have been deployed to the north because they dont want to enter gaza and have the front with Lebanon Open Up and be caught flatfooted which is why you see so many thousands of troops across the country, tanks in both the north and south, theres a preparation for this to turn into a regional conflict and as weve seen with our own eyes the massacre that took place Saturday Morning has really motivated Israeli Soldiers to be focused on winning the battle. They understand the future of their state is at steak and they also understand that a massacre took place against their people and they want to make sure they can come out of this on top and thats part of the reason you will see a continued effort by the israelis toss show the world what exactly they are up against and who they are fighting. When you look at the agenda and you see this presidency as an historic catastrophe. You realize any normal politician would have changed course by now say on the border or on the inflationary economic policies. This president has not changed course at all. And that tells you that no matter what is happening around him, no matter what is falling apart around him, he is plowing through because that is what he has been told to do to achieve an ultimate objective which is what president obama once called the fundamental transformation of the nation. Hamas has said no, they want these civilians to stay there acting as basically Human Shields for their effort, and the un frankly said practically they would not be able to get down there anyway. The fear among people in the neighboring country of egypt is that they could be faced with a flood of refugees from gaza strip. There is one Border Crossing between the gaza strip and egypt, and that is shut down. Egypt says its because israels actually bombed the palestinians side of that Border Crossing but that feeling is that also egypt does not want to face an onslaught of refugees coming from gaza strip, also doesnt want to give up the idea that the palestinians have a right to be there. We understand Secretary Blinken will be in Cairo On Sunday and what they are going to try to negotiate is a safe passage at least for foreign nationals, including americans shore, are living in gaza strip, and also, of course, to get medicine and aid inside. But right now youve got 2. 3 Million People in the gaza strip. They are bottled up and they are being rattled by series and series of israeli fire fights and missile strikes.
