Irs Whistle Blowers saying something coming to government treat the bidens different and informant claiming the biden family had been bribed. Should you ignore that or investigate that. Only way to investigate is impeach inquiry and the committee has the power to get all the documents they need. Paul lets bring in Wall Street Journal columnist kim sto is, sle and strossle and brian mcgun. They didnt seem to agree on the terms of the agreement. Its a first for me. What why did they not think on the same page here . Yeah, i mean, its absolutely mind boggling, paul. But, look, the central issue seems to be whether or not there was a Wink Nod Deal between the two the judge exposed specifically over the question of whether or not hunter biden was getting an Immunity Agreement related to other charges in the investigation. There was a paragraph in the Diversion Deal laying that out. Hunters team clearly viewed as completely making him immune from future charges and the problem that the prosecutors had was u. S. Attorney david wise said his investigation is ongoing, that theyre still looking at more things and when the judge dug into this, prosecutors took the other line and said, no, well, maybe he is in fact going to be hit with more charges. Thats the proximate cause of this implosion going on in the court. Hunters team seemed to be left with the impression they were in the clear whereas prosecutors said no, thats not the case. Paul so, bill, why couldnt the prosecution just say that in fact he wouldnt be charged . Is it because this Ongoing Investigation claim is some kind of political cover . Well, yes, as kim pointed out, david wise has said this is an Ongoing Investigation, and he said that to avoid Answering Congress questions so if ewe have an investigation but theres going to be no charges, theres no reason for the investigation. The real purpose, look, the deal was supposed so be approved quietly as most pleas are and bury the issue forever. Instead, it blew up on them and in a very pub lib way and now its become an public way and issue. The white house says its a personal matter for hunter biden . Its a very public matter what he was doing and what the product was, whether he was selling his fathers influence. Paul kim, this charge of the statement by the judge that maybe the deal is unconstitutional. Ive never heard of that one either. Why dont you elaborate on that one . What does she mean . Yeah, it says something by the way, paul, about the degree to which this deal seems to be written to benefit hunter biden. Look, theres a provision in the Diversion Deal that said that if hunter biden, he had two years to be in this program on which hes not supposed to use drugs or maintain a weapon, its usually up to the Department Of Justice of whether or not theres been a violation. Instead they wrote into the deal that the judge would have control over that issue. Now, hunters lawyer said this was necessary in case a future republican doj got political and the judge noted this was giving her prosecution powers reserves for the justice branch. Paul bill, what does this mean for the white house and theyve changed the line from the president s first saying i never discussed my sons Business Dealings with hunter to now saying, well, i never was in business with hunt herb. Thats a walk back. What does this mean and how does this implicate joe biden potentially . Well, theres going to be testimony monday by devon archer, former Hunter Business associate thats going to say joe was in on at least two dozen discussions about businesses. So i think the white house realize it had couldnt get away with rush realized he he couldnt get away saying he knew nothing about the businesses and 10 administer the big guy and all sorts of things. They change their line and theyll have to answer more questions themselves. As you pointed out in the opening, theres now an Impeachment Inquiry theyre going to start. I think theyre starting that not because theyll necessarily impeach. They dont have the votes to convict and getting a lot more documents out of Executive Branch as part of Impeachment Inquiry rather than oversight hearings and rather than bearing the issue, this week put it out in full focus all the unanswered questions. Remember, the key answer one of the prosecutors gave is he admitted the deal was unprecedented. Paul. the big vulnerability, kim, is whether joe biden was in on some of the deals and may have been paid. Is that where that would really create jeopardy for the president . Yeah, thats what theyre looking for in the end. Really this is not so much about hunters actions and how and whether they intersect with the president. I think also question too, paul, is whether or not hes caught to have been lying to the country. Hes been very firm he had nothing to do with hunter biden at all. I think were already getting information thats not true. Paul thank you, both. Still ahead, with the first president ial debate less than a month away, the race for the nomination is heating up as the support for Vivek Ramaswamy is gaining ground and putting him neck and neck with ron desantism werene joined by mark penn, ne. Paul with the first republican president ial debate less than a month away, the race for the water is heating up with businessman Vivek Ramaswamy making gains in the latest Harvard Harris poles and the mitt polls and the political outsider two points behind Florida Governor ron desantis. Mark penn is ceo of stag well. Stake the president s Approval Rating first and hes been bouncing around in low 40s for quite some time. Why cant he break out of that rut . Well, its about 42 or 43 approval, which is a tough Approval Range for reelection. And the simple answer is that the economy by almost twothirds of the population is seen as going in the wrong direction and the direction is first on the economy and immigration and most of the issues he tends to have Approval Ratings between 30 and 40 . Hes only above 50 in terms of the virus. Paul. The white house see what is youre seeing and thats why theyre doing a new Campaign Based around bidenomics and now their slogan and working and theyre pointing to the relatively faster growth here and the first and Second Quarters and falling inflation and is this the right strategy . Well, i did the strategy with president clinton and we were successful in turning around attitudes in the economy in about six months. Its a tough strategy here because even though theres excellent economic numbers on employment, people are really focused on inflation and food prices. I think he might be really be better focusing on an antiinflation plan to bring down the price of gasoline, food, Interest Rates, mortgages, housing because thats really what people care about in this economy. Paul yeah, its very hard to make a case for economic to sell an economy if people dont believe it when they see it. So thats what hes up again, i think, and thats where inflation still is playing out. How long does it take even as the inflation is going down . How much does it take psychologically before people ssay inflation sunned control . Realistically, i think the president has till next summer and people will generally vote on how they feel the economy is four or five months because it takes four or five months for attitudes to change so he has some time here. If he turns around attitudes towards the economy and in fact inflation comes down, by next summer, it could disappear as an issue. You know, these voters are very fickle. Paul turn to the republican nomination night and you have donald trump with a commanding lead at about 50 or so. How many of how much of that support for trump is getable by other candidates . In other words how much is soft and how much firm . Well, trump is not in 60 or 65 and hes come down a little just over 50 so that means theres a very significant nontrumpappointed segment within the nontrump segment within the Republican Party and theres about a third genuinely soft if he found himself in trouble in the nomination. What weve seen here ascandidates come in, ron desantis lead has completely fractured and the real surprise of the poll to me was ramaswamy has shot up. Paul how do you explain that . Hes is there a particular part of his message that is breaking through . What . I think people are craving a little bit less politics, more issues. I think ron desantis got himself into the cultural battles and stayed there rather than getting over to the bread and butter issues. Ramaswamy seems to have energy, he seems to be really serious. Seems to be issue oriented and in many ways hes the opposite of what a trump candidacy is. Look, a lot of canned dates of the republican primary going back to last time, they had day in the sun and they would have a mamini surge and then dissipate. Well see if this is just a mini surge or has staying power and whether he can get from 10 or 12 to 15 or 16. Paul everyone is kicking ron desantis while hes downright here. Theres a Lot Of Press Core writing him off, but hes talking about some kind of a reboot on his campaign, broaden his message to the economy and the cultural battles hes been fighting. S that the way out for him and does he have a chance . I wrote that about a month or two and said, look, ron desantis is running the wrong campaign. He is really geared more towards the moderate Republican Voters running on a kind of competence in florida and making the right decisions and has to show he can handle the economy of foreign policy. Instead, he spent too much time on these other issues, didnt get them anywhere because hes trying to appeal to The Rock Solid Trump base. Those voters are not switching to him and then he lost the momentum. But he can get it back. No one thought biden was going to come out and be the democratic nominee when he in fact turned things around. Paul yeah, youre saying desantis still could turn things around if he gets the right message that the voters want to hear. Well, they havent heard him really yet and hasnt even been the first debate and is this primary over or just beginning . Paul yeah, excuse me. Well find out soon. New charges for donald trump in the classified documents case. X new signs of Campaign Trouble for ron desantis and will he broaden his message before its too late . All that and more with our politics panel, next. Paul donald trump is facing new charges of his handling of classifies documents. Theres three new felony counts brought against the former president on thursday including claims that the president told the Property Manager at maralago he wanted Security Camera footage to be deleted and it was revealed at Superseding Indictment that named Carlos Aleverra to be arraigned on monday. Were back with kim and bill. Built, how dot new charges change the case against trump on the documents . Theres two aspects. One is a legal case and having looked at these charges, i think theyre very serious and like the maralago charges, theyre very specific and i think the former president is in trouble over them. Theyll be hard to wiggle out of. Jack smith is very aggressive prosecutor. Once reprimanded by the Supreme Court for that aggressive prosecution, but hes piled up enough that somethings going to stick. The second is political and im not sure people are paying attention. The antitrump people cheered on the pro trump people to increase their support. I find it incredibly curious theyd choose to bring the indictments piling on donald trump in the same week they exposed this unprecedented plea deal for the president s son. The president s son getting off scott free and President Trump meanwhile they piled more charges with more to come in other areas. Kiming on the legal point it seem this is is important because it goes right at one of the defenses that the president has been using and hes been saying under the president ial records act, i have the right to keep these documents. Theres really no legal liability here. Problem is if the president is also saying, geez, we need to stop the we need to stifle evidence or hide evidence that somehow i was hiding these documents. That means he suspects trump himself and the president ial records act really didnt protect him and thats a really significant point. The old chestnut and black mask and coverup and what the problem is here, you note that the actions that it would appear if these documents and this indictment is correct would appear to show donald trump taking positive actions that undermine his best defense in court. Because, look, i think theres quite a strong argument for him to make this is uncharted territory in terms of the president ial records act and his authority is really quite sweeping but any evidence that jack smith can present to a jury for donald trump being worried that he would be found to have documents and instead cuts against him and makes the case that he felt he knew he shouldnt have had them, not only kept them but took steps to keep the feds from knowing that. Paul kim, briefly, do you agree with bill that the political impact in terms of the republican primary nomination will probably be disassociated i minimal . Nothing. I cant see the point of what bill made beyond a doubling standard. Paul all right, bill, turn to desantis because the campaign hasnt had to take off and has a Campaign Staff reshuffle. Why isnt he connecting with voters . I dont know. Im sympathetic to desantis as all candidates and id have to say in all fairness because most of the other repub republicans t connecting either and even he has just broken into double done a lots. Substantively theres a little positive agenda how hes going to make our life better, Economic Growth message and even more than that, i feel that when people are listening to ron desantis, they feel hes calculate hag hes saying to please an audience to get a vote. Whatever trumps faults are, he doesnt do that. He just speaks his mind and gets in trouble for it. He speaks his mind. X Vivek Ramaswamy is kind of like that and fast on his feet. He doesnt look like hes Reading Polls and calculating how to get votes. I hate to say it, he would have to be a little more elmore wow. Threat and i can have a positive message and hes a fighter and gone up against some forces that are pretty powerful but you want to deliver a little reagan sunshine and we can make your life better. The worst outcome for everyone would be not to deal with inflation now. Not get it done. Whatever the short term social cause of inflation and the Locker Term Social Cost is greater so we intend again to keep policy restrictive that were confident its coming down sustain Blizzard Warnings to 2 target and prepared to further tighten if appropriate and the process still probably has a Long Way To Go. Paul bring in Wall Street Journal Columnist Mary and alicia. Mary, inflation, cpi, Consumer Price index down to 3 in june and feds favorite measure is 4. 1 and are we approaching victory . I think if you listen to jay powell and the fed, they will tell you that we still have a way to go as the chairman just said and we saw a bit of insight into why theyre thinking that way as the speech chris waller on the board of governors gave at the university this month and he said that basically this is the theory that long and variable lag in other words theres a delay in how the economy reacts to changes at the fed. Its not always true and he made the case for something that he call shocks travel fast and two of his examples are that the fed raised Interest Rates, 500 basis points in a year, and also that it gave Forward Guidance and told the markets it was going to start raising even before it did and the market moved so theres been a lot of theft in the fed policy and chris waller said thats why i think we have a ways to government paul alicia, whats your take on the feds decision in do you think this logic makes sense and they should have raised rates . Theres a lot of people griping that they really dont need to and inflation is already down enough. Look, Core Inflation is minus energy and food is running about 4. 8 and see ago lot of inflation in the Service Sector about 5. 7 based on last cpi report and people are feeling it and not feeling it as much as they were a year ago. Now, the labor market has kind of eased a little bit. Its tightening and actually starting your last easing and starting to see job openings decline but still were still adding 200 to 300,000 job as month and wages are still taking up 4 to 5 and i think theres still concern that the economy is still running a little hot. The question isnt how much further do we go but how long do we maintain the high or et visited rates. Elevated rates, theyre not that high. High. Paul we have a couple of hawks here and, mary, we were supposed to be in a recession according to wall street and Second Quarter of gdp still 10 million job opening ands why dont we have a recession . Couple things first of all and the u. S. Economy is very resill gent. Theyre letting entrepreneurs use other resources than labor to get things done and theres a Lagging Effect and they could go up even more. Paul could that go up higher . They could. The problem is theyre reading and lagging indicators and on friday we saw the core pce and its the indicator that the fed uses and its 4. 1. Theyre get willing. Paul their target is 2 their target is 2 and flat at 4. 5 since november and theyre starting to get there and i think that because you have these lagging indicators and theres a good possibility that theyre going to overshoot but when you have a fiat currency, the only thing going for you is the credibility of the central bank. Thats it. Now jay powell is singularly focused on inflation and if he lose that, he loses everything. Paul allysia, one of the economic gdp reports is that investment popped back up and whats driving this . Consumer spending is strong but investment. In particular, Investment Structures in equipment and its fallen off in the previous two quarters and theres something with the bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and investment and propping for Electric Vehicle factories and that is chips factories or highway building. Paul heavily subsidized and moves them forward and liberal during the trump and were being more experience for the short term sugar high from all the federal subsidies. The think the labor market and able to hire workers and i think thats actually increasing their ability to actually invest more and youre hearing that especially in the oil and gas patch. Learn how abbvie could help you save. Paul bring in retired four star general jack keen. Hes chairman of the Institute For The Study Of War and a fox news senior strategic analyst. Whats the state of the ukrainian offensive now and do they have the weapons and support that they need to succeed . Yeah, take a look at t paul. This is kind of the third phase weve seen in the counter offensive and began back in june of the russian defensive depth in the definitive region in a place called kharkiv and took early on casualties of Armored Vehicles and people and stop that had kind of operation to better plan for the defensive depth they have to execute and they changed the foot Infantry Infiltration of the russian lines and they have some success with that because they were able to defeat the forces in the trenches and the ukrainians tougher more discipline better led than the russians themselves. In two areas in the western area and the intent of this operation is to get to the main Supply Routes that connect russia supra aural headphones to crimea and thats probably 50 to 60 miles away. Its quite a distance on the ground and theyll deliberately and methodically sweeping operation that ends in a few days and theyll take their time and recognize the preserved force of casualties and if theyre able to get to that main supply route or close to it theyre maybing it intradecktive and theyll be a major accomplishment and second thing they want to do is once that far south, paul, they want to drive the russians out of crimea by using long range fi fires. The Cruise Missiles from the britts and the french. Where they can reach long range artillery to drive the Ground Forces scout put at risk the russian bases and logistical infrastructure in crimea. No plan to physically attack it on the ground. But to portion their withdrawal. If that happens at second operational object and i have that would be major success with their plan next year with their attack with crimea using its supporting for operation and f16 aircraft they dont have right now and we have the execution of the russian offensive. Paul general, i think those would be terrific accomplishment ifs they can get them but the concern that i keep hear asking when do they have the weaponry and long range fire and not to get behind russian lines and the second one is the casualties the ukrainians are taking and they dont have the main power and russians throw wave after wave in there and thats the casualties and they have to be more careful. How big of a risk is it going to take for tremendous casualties. Theyre doing it on the fly and in other words we pulled their people, trained them quickly on the equipment and tactics and then put them back into the fight. Thats a heck of a way to go about fighting the war and theyre dealing with it and theyre handicapped, paul, and significantly so. Weve got to put the cards on the table. They dont have operations against a prepared defense in depth without Injury Report and doing it with world war ii and we certainly didnt do it in 2003 in iraq and we would not do it today and they dont also have mobile air Defense Systems for them bring up helicopters and keep them at a distance of five miles and this is the ka52 and Firing Missiles at the ukrainian Armored Vehicles and they have a range and theyre handicapped but the intangibles and theyve made a huge difference and theyve got skill and will and enormous amount of perseverance and theyre betting led and theyre much more determined fighters than who theyre up against and the Operation Reserves to be able to block effectively in ukrainians to make penetration. Yeah, this is going to be a challenge and not being poly amish about what theyre able to co. They have a heck of a fight on their hands and they have a how long opportunity here to succeed if theyve got the wherewithal to get beyond the defenses. Paul general jack keen, thank you for joining us. Appreciate it. Paul the Biden Administration this week Lawned A Probe into harvard and it notified lawyers for civil rights of boston nonprofit it is investigating their claim that the university discriminates against students of color by giving preferable treatment of relatives of alumni and donors. Applicants, the group says, who are overwhelmingly white. The investigation comes less than a month after the Supreme Court struck down the use of race in College Admissions with College Admissions with President Biden vowing at the time to study Legacy Preferences and other policies that expand privilege instead of opportunity. Here is White House Press secretary Karine Jeanpierre on tuesday. The president was clear that he made sure Legacy Admissions hold back our ability to build diverse student bodies. Paul were back with kim, allysia and bill. Allysia, what do you make of this investigation . Particularly is there a legal case here potentially . I dont think theres a legal case and it was filed with the Department Of Education and they cannot bring a legal case under their theory and its a desperate impact paul explain Disparate Impact. It is therefore evidence of discrimination and now the Supreme Court is an act of truth. Paul that somebody discriminated . Thats right. The Supreme Court rejected this their reover two decades combined effect and hence why this group is bringing in case to the Education Department and says this violates your regulations, which ban bandies disparate im ban Disparate Impact policies. Whites do disproportionately benefit based on all the evidence. Paul kim, the Education Department would bring a case against harvard . I mean, that politically would not be, harvard is big supporter was this administration. What do you think . Something he might be do . It will and might be a populous winner and the president is trying very hard to appeal to blue collar and Working Class Americans as he gears up for reelection and what Better Organization to beat up on than an Elite University but paul, i would note that how hypocritical it is that the reality of legacies and their admissions are vetted and part of the University Structure everywhere including in public universities and this is launching an investigation into joe bidens alma mater, the university of delaware, which actively recruits and vets and celebrates its own Legacy Addition Miss admissions. Its a sucker punch move. Its trying to, you know, get people all riled up about this, but it isnt necessarily an honest had lawsuit in that regard. Paul bill, alumni might give more if their kids or grand kids are likely to get in. Why cant harvard or other schools try to build loyalty to their institution through this kind of precious . I mean, thats the argument, especially for private universities because private universities depend on the generosity of benefactors, mostly alumni and donors to build up their endowments and dot other things they want. I think, look, the problem is politically the people are getting against racial preferences which we support and if you make the case on merit and people should just be admitted by merit, its harder to make the case for legacies. But its more complicated than that. I agree i dont think its good legal case and remember, the university is accused of doing this and as kim eluded to is the same universities that were found guilty of racial preferences and its not two different classes of people, its the same people and most persons understand that a guy who donates 30 million for a new building is going to want his grandson maybe to get some benefit and, you know, for y yes that was okay. Students with the sat scores and those who were among legacies or were athletes were significantly more likely to get in than other middle class kids who made the attendance to public class high schools and the argument is that only 43 of kids at harvard are athletes and are 43 chance getting into harvard and not one of the Privilege Groups is very slim and very difficult. So in that way, it actually hurts people or parents who skimp and save and try to provide the education and really dont come from the high class affluent background. Paul unless they play football or basketball or lacrosse or something. All right, allysia, thank you. We have to take one more break. When we come back, hits and misses of the week.
