A five year old moroccan boy freed after being trapped in a well forfour days has died. Hello and welcome to bbc news. Queen elizabeth says she wants camilla, the duchess of cornwall, to be known as Queen Consort when Prince Charles becomes king. She made the announcement in a message marking the 70th Anniversary of her reign a milestone no british monarch has ever reached before. Our royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell reports from sandringham. It is 70 years to the day since she came to the throne and there is no question of her stepping down. In the ballroom at sandringham on the eve of accession day, she was alert and fully engaged in conversations. I was told it had to be upside for the press. Very consistent. Laughter. I dont mind, i dont matter. Laughter. At the same time, its clear the queen is looking to the future and smoothing the path to the reign of her eldest son. In a Statement Issued last night, the queen recalled that she had been blessed to have as her partner, Prince Philip, who she said had unselfishly taken on the role of consort. And so she concluded. Until now, mindful of the sensitivities around camillas role in the breakdown of charles first marriage, it had been intended that she would become Princess Consort. Now the queen has made clear her wish that camilla should have the full status as the wife of a king and be known as queen. It is a decision that undoubtedly will delight Prince Charles. Nicholas witchell, bbc news, at sandringham. And well be live at Buckingham Palace for more on Queen Elizabeths Platinum Jubilee and that annoucement about the duchess of cormwall in a few minutes. The uk Prime Minister, boris johnson, is considering further changes to his top team, with the prospect this week of more mps submitting letters of no confidence in him. The former Conservative Party Leader and work and pensions secretary, iain duncan smith, said now was the wrong time for a damaging Leadership Election, and whats needed now was discipline. Lets talk to our political correspondent. What has been going on, a few ministers have been talking to the media about this . This is about borisjohnson and how he is trying to reshape Downing Street after all of the things that have gone on over recent months. Last week, three senior people from his team resigned in planned resignations. Another two went into unplanned resignations. This is about filling some of those jobs. The two he filled overnight is the Director Of Communications and dealing with the press, someone he has worked with before, gutu harri, seen as a safe pair of hands. But he has appointed a new Chief Of Staff and the man he has chosen is steve barclay, an mp and the cabinet minister. He is seen as another person is a safe pair of hands, he is well liked. This is what the Business Secretary had to say about him. ,. ~ him. Not at all, i think the Prime Minister has him. Not at all, i think the Prime Minister has been him. Not at all, i think the Prime Minister has been very him. Not at all, i think the Prime Minister has been very clear him. He was very clear wants a reset in number ten. He was very clear speaking to conservative mps very clear speaking to conservative mp5 on very clear speaking to conservative mps on monday. What we saw last week was him mps on monday. What we saw last week was him following through with that commitment. I am looking forward to working commitment. I am looking forward to working with him to deliver on the Manifesto Working with him to deliver on the manifesto and spend two years levelling manifesto and spend two years levelling up and making sure we have obs, levelling up and making sure we have jobs, making sure we have inward investment jobs, making sure we have inward investment and we can get out of the pandemic, investment and we can get out of the pandemic, rebound from the covid pandemic pandemic, rebound from the covid andemic. , pandemic, rebound from the covid andemic. , pandemic. That was the Business Secretary defending pandemic. That was the Business Secretary defending the pandemic. That was the Business Secretary defending the Prime I Secretary defending the Prime Minister. We were talking about steve barclay, the man he is bringing in to be his Chief Of Staff. He is a senior mp, a member of the cabinet, he is well respected. But the Chief Of Staff is a big job, so a lot of questions are being asked as to how it will be possible for him to balance those roles. Some of the opposition are asking that and people who have been in the role before. Lord barwell, theresa mays Chief Of Staff. He was an mp and minister and he said it will not be easy to combine those jobs. The other thing, part of the reason for doing this are putting an mp in that role is to try to improve links with his own mps in parliament who, as you said are considering over the weekend, some of them have written letters of no confidence. There is a sense he is trying to build bridges with them and make sure they are more involved in policy making Going Forward as he puts these changes in effect. The question is, is it going to be enough . Also iain duncan smith, a former leader of the Conservative Party who lost the Confidence Vote, he is still an mp, among the backbenchers and he says now is not the time for a leadership challenge. He has to be, he is the Prime Minister. He has to be, he is the Prime Minister, he is the man who oversaw what minister, he is the man who oversaw whai went minister, he is the man who oversaw what went wrong and he is the man who has what went wrong and he is the man who has to what went wrong and he is the man who has to recognise categorically, as i who has to recognise categorically, as i believe who has to recognise categorically, as i believe he is beginning to do now, as i believe he is beginning to do now. These as i believe he is beginning to do now, these things need to be put right now, these things need to be put right desperately. There has to be huge right desperately. There has to be huge change. This doesnt guarantee anything. Huge change. This doesnt guarantee anything, but my sense of right now is, if anything, but my sense of right now is. If we anything, but my sense of right now is, if we plunge ourselves into a leadership is, if we plunge ourselves into a Leadership Election, a vote of confidence, which in the end always damages confidence, which in the end always damages leaders, even if they win it, damages leaders, even if they win it. Maybe damages leaders, even if they win it, maybe into a Leadership Election in the it, maybe into a Leadership Election in the midst of a stitch we are facing in the midst of a stitch we are facing a in the midst of a stitch we are facing a big Cost Of Living crisis. This is a crisis of a number of things and it can be resolved as a number of things and it can be resolved as a number of of things and it can be resolved as a number of things. The cost of energy has to be dealt with swiftly and the energy has to be dealt with swiftly and the government has to do more to make and the government has to do more to make that and the government has to do more to make that happen to get the Cost Of Living make that happen to get the Cost Of Living sorted. He also had a message for those who might be jostling for l for those who might be jostling for position to succeed borisjohnson. He said it should be about ambition at the right time. This is about staving off the immediate threat of a no Confidence Vote from his own mps, but borisjohnson has a few more months when we are looking at a Police Investigation and reporting back. It comes on the day thatjust last night we had that statement from the queen looking ahead of things to come. It was very much looking forward, as well as looking back. We always know Accession Anniversary is an emotional time for the clean, she spends the day privately but this is the first time she has talked about what will happen when her son becomes king. And by giving her royal approval to queen camilla, Queen Consort, it settles an argument that has been raging for many years. I think that is what is going to happen now. The many years. I think that is what is going to happen now. Going to happen now. The queen herself, going to happen now. The queen herself. Not going to happen now. The queen herself, not at going to happen now. The queen herself, not at the palace, she isi herself, not at the palace, she is at sandringham and she traditionally spends the estate at sandringham. It is the death of her father, who died so young. This is the first time she has to reflect on that enormous change in her life without her husband at her side. Absolutely, it is the first time she has spent the | is the first time she has spent the anniversary as a widow and the fact she is doing it at sandringham makes it more poignant. We know that is the place where Prince Philip retired and he spent most of his final years. They were able to live very much as an ordinary married couple as they could, given their status. So going back there it will have an extra poignancy this year. It is said that sandringham is the place where the clean and the duke of edinburgh were able to be almost, almost as much living like you or i might as monarch could come it was a relaxed environment . The queen has commented in the past two friends, it was something she would have liked to have done had she not been propelled into this role at that stage in her life when she was a young woman with two Young Children and hadnt been quite ready to take that step. Emily, thank you very much for now. We will take a few minutes later to reflect on the year ahead and there are celebrations as well for the country in the year ahead. There is the four Day Bank Holiday weekend which begins onjune the 2nd. 0ne hopes delayed to give us some slightly Better Weather for the celebrations. Lets reflect on the events of 70 years ago. I am joined by someone who had various members of his family working for the royal family at that time. Peter worrell joins me from herefordshire. Remember the queen when she was a small child and when she was asked what she wanted to be, she said, i want to be a horse. That has been through her life and right through my fathers life. My grandfather was at sandringham and was shooting with the king in the afternoon and he was asked late at night to come up to his chambers to discuss racing. And what was going to happen in the coming week. And they apparently went through the form and make sure everything was in order. We are told that may the two of them had a cigarette, which they were not meant to do, for obvious reasons, and then my grandfather left and he went back to his quarters and, of course, the king very sadly died. But there it doesnt end, in that his Sister In Law was someone called lady better share than walker and they owned a place called tree tops, which is synonymous with the queen and her ascension to the throne. I think what is a fantastic thing to go into this, if you want, the day before the queen and Prince Philip were on safari and they came very, very close to elephants. My great uncle thought the queen was fantastic and that morning at breakfast, when he still thought she was princess, he made this quote to her, if you have the same courage, maam, in facing what the future sends you as you have in facing an elephant to eight yards, we are going to be fortunate indeed. So very much in our thoughts, as i think everyone in this country would like to say, the most incredible lady. Peter worrell, thank you very much and thank you forjoining us on the bbc this morning. At a continually blustery Buckingham Palace, robert lacey is with me. We talk so often momentous days, you and i, and there is no more momentous than today, we have been reflecting on that already. Your thoughts, as someone who has written about the monarchy for so long, what you thought about the significance of the queens comment about camilla in her platinumjubilee comment about camilla in her Platinum Jubilee statement . The last time we spoke was at windsor i Platinum Jubilee statement . The last time we spoke was at Windsor Castle | time we spoke was at Windsor Castle for the funeral of Prince Philip. As you have already said, it links to what you are asking, she has clearly been thinking about the importance of a partner and a consort to her. I think that is what explains this decision for her to endorse camilla. She thought about her father, the role her mother played supporting her stuttering father, known to the world, of course, through colin firth. Many of our viewers will think no, colin firth, the kings speech, that is the man. He had many difficulties and he was greatly supported by his consort. She has just lost her own consort. That is a big factor in why we are hearing it now. As emily said earlier, she is looking forward, but. Sorry, she was looking back, but she is also looking forward. She is acknowledging her own mortality and what will happen next. Foreign viewers, this is the queens advice. What the queen says is not the law, we dont have law in britain about the royalfamily, it is convention. The wife of the king becomes the queen. As i said, there is not a law that says that, but it has always been the case. They were going to make a change for this when charles married camilla. He actually said, i shall call camilla my wife and when i become king, Princess Consort. That is now over and we look forward to queen camilla. He that is now over and we look forward to queen camilla. That is now over and we look forward to queen camilla. He made the point that it is not to queen camilla. He made the point that it is not law to queen camilla. He made the point that it is not law but to queen camilla. He made the point that it is not law but it to queen camilla. He made the point that it is not law but it is to queen camilla. He made the point that it is not law but it is the that it is not law but it is the cleans wish, therefore fair to assume, safe to assume this will now happen one day in the fullness of time . ,. ,. ,. , time . You have used that phrase, the fullness of time, time . You have used that phrase, the fullness of time, which time . You have used that phrase, the fullness of time, which the time . You have used that phrase, the fullness of time, which the queen i fullness of time, which the queen herself used in her statement yesterday. At that moment, charles wife becomes clean. The whole arrangement had been set up to call her Princess Consort would have required laws and changes in the regulations, and nobody would have done it anyway. Now the queen has expressed how she feels, there will be no Prime Minister, government or mp who is going to say, hang on a minute. This has arisen out of the earlier troubles in Prince Charles marriage with diana and the role camilla played in that. But that is now 30, a0 years ago and the clean is such a realist. You know, she has got a business to run, they call it the firm, dont they . This brings camilla into the firm properly now and in the future. And in the future. Robert lacey, thank you and in the future. Robert lacey, thank you. Robert and in the future. Robert lacey, thank you. Robert will and in the future. Robert lacey, thank you. Robert will be i and in the future. Robert lacey, | thank you.
