[laughter] was going to say, it's a colorful dr. seuss-like, but i don't know how everybody feels about that. let's start with the border situation, and the fact that it's only been a few weeks we've seen a change in policy, and now the dhs is looking at things may be a little bit clearer. joey. >> joey: people don't talk about the fact that this is not a border crisis; it's a crisis that starts at the border. come from dalton, georgia. this 78% hispanic, mostly mexican migrants, 32,000 people -- here's the deal about immigration policy. neither party has incentive to fix it. millions of people live in this country in the shadows. i went to school with a kid who came here illegally who are legitimate, legal citizens. they are not all voting democrat. i believe the motivation is simply to harvest and literally raise new voters for the party. i don't think it's turning out that way. when i lived in texas, you can see the change. hispanic families are largely conservative in their homes. the more educated these people get, especially their children born in america, the more they realize that policies aren't always what is best what's best for them and them home is not what is best for what got them in the country. to see immigration reform, and not this tit for tat and almost spiteful methodology, especially the democrats right now. they're going to open the borders right now. this is harmful to those people. i have lived among immigrants that came here illegally and lived in the shadows, and nothing is more harmful to them than to be here illegally. it is not a quality of life that any of us would want. it doesn't help them. we need to reform our immigration policies so that when we bring people in this country, we can wrap our arms around them and to make them americans, not just people living in the shadows. >> miranda: this is a catastrophe of the border, a humanitarian catastrophe, national security catastrophe, and a public-health one. so many of these illegal migrants have covid. we know that. they've been tested, and they are just let out into the country to spread the infection. joe biden, who was mr. responsible, supposedly, during the election campaign, doesn't care. he's not talking about it. they think they can bury their heads in the sand, pretend nothing terrible is going on. they have empowered the cartels, the people-smugglers, the predators, the people who are leaving their countries because of a crisis there. you can't blame them for wanting to find a better life in america, but america cannot have open borders, cannot accept everybody from around the world. i lived in australia when exactly the same irresponsible government cayman, a left-wing government pretending they were being humanitarian, and allowed boatloads of illegal migrants to come in to be preyed upon by people smugglers. many of them drowned. it was terrible for the country, terrible for the migrants themselves. the only people who prosper are the people smugglers. they do bad things to her country , and they do bad things to our country, and to the migrants divided administration wants to bring in here. we have to be frank. they think they are future voters provide them. they are wearing the t-shirts. >> harris: luck: joey just pointed out, having grown up in a community with beautiful people who had come from far south with hope in their hearts, but came in illegally. it wasn't easy for them. they don't always you would hope if you are democrat. congressman from arizona was on with me last hour. he said some of what you were saying, that if we want this to be about the humanitarian, heartfelt thing to do. this isn't how you do it. you are putting a lot of people in harm's way who are trying to get here with the bite and tee, thinking "they are going >> katie: i think it's important to underscore the fact that the secretary of new york, to our understanding, has not briefed the president from his border visit. i see that either meaning there's no urgency of the information transfer, or he's bringing someone else, both of which are troubling. our greatest ally in moderating that southern border search remains mexico. during the last administration, their policies reflected an alignment of our policies, which is why there southern border was fortified ally for him special interest groups. there is reasonable direction of the past memory which these countries have longer and we do. all of my college's point here, if humanity is our best interest, which it is, these policies do not reflect that type of diplomacy and synthesis required to make humanitarian decisions. >> harris: the way i've heard congressman bigs put it last hour, "in our best interest, because that's the right thing to do, is protect those we know we can come and make policies that do just that." i understand from the team that they've got some video. remember when aoc went to the border? katie, i come to you on the politics that are at play. you want eyes on a situation. it's been hard for media tickets in its eyes inside his facilities. you want people to go there. you want a white house team to go there, and you want people to be briefed they have access to it. emily just pointed out, and we are being told that you may never have access to those private conversations. >> week should point out that >> emily: we should plan about those photos are completely staged in a parking lot, and they all happens to be wearing the same outfit to go to the border, and they called these "concentration camps," called border guards, said the people were drinking out of toilets. that wasn't true, but it got a cross on social media, which was aoc's point rather than governing. what's happening now is not staged. it is a crisis. i keep hearing the white house talk about how the trump administration was inhumane, how what they are doing is a humane process. this is not humane when you are jam packing full these detention facilities that look like jails, when you are sending unaccompanied minors to sponsors the united states who cannot be be -- that these are being sent to sex offenders, being sent to farms as essentially slave labor. saying that this is a "humane process" is a lie. humane borders are not completely open borders. in terms of the bigger crisis here, there's a crisis on the border right now with thousands of people coming across, but now you are developing a crisis for the next 10 years. what happens in the 5-year-old who comes across as 15, and they turn 18? they don't have a status. do we have another dreamer program, another dock a program that can't get through congress. your crating a class of people who, in the future, congress will refuse to deal with, because they don't deal with the crisis of the border right now. the trump administration did this. they can send these kids back instead of sending them to virginia, for example, but are refusing to do that. >> harris: joey, i hear so much of what you forecast, and everybody's comments, because you have lived in a place where their heart was touched by what was going on. you can see it. a warning to teachers. in a big city union, they are fighting for -- it concerns a break and social media. what the union may be looking to keep hidden, at least the members of it, and why. plus, 48 and counting, no formal solo news conference from president biden. is this the kind of administration's team was promising on inauguration day? >> i don't know that you will see him more than 40 times a month. >> that doesn't seem to square with what jen psaki said right when the president took office. >> if the president were standing here with me today, he would say he works for the american people. i work for him, so i also work for the american people. his objective and commitment is to bring transparency and truth back to government, to share the truth even when it's hard to hear. >> emily: katie pavlich, your thoughts. >> katie: i think it's odd for a president who campaigned on getting back to norms and tradition is not sticking with tradition when it comes to speaking with the press. the press secretary jen psaki was being quite dishonest yesterday when she was saying that 40 times the present was enough. this is not the president speaking to reporters in a candid fashion. this was the president speaking at a sign in the fence, and comments from follow-up questions. for someone who campaigned on being transparent and open with the american people, someone who said they were going to be a leader, who has been a government for more than 40 years, it's time for him to take questions from the press about his policies over the course of his feet his first few weeks in office. >> emily: what is your perspective on this, especially given that longevity that was just touched on? for seven years in office; he knows the drill. >> harris: he knows the drill, but he hasn't actually had to govern the country. he also knew the drill on the campaign trail. we saw him getting on an opposite trend, and then he might take a question or two. he has an event on that much. he doesn't intend to do that, but he's probably realized that campaigning, and whatever hypotheticals you can give in a question and answer situation, is very starkly different than governing. when you are asked to name names, tell us what your plays are, or actually asked as a coach to win the super bowl, you've got to come to play. i don't see this happening outside of jen psaki. he's not taking those direct questions and answers. the question is looming; why is that? good opportunity tomorrow night. they could've gone from whatever venue they are to have, their normal huge venue where he will give his speech thursday night, 8:00 p.m. eastern. he could have said "15 minutes, meet me in the briefing room. let's talk about what you want to ask while we are here at the white house." but, no! it's probably going to be a situation where he speaks at us again, because we haven't been invited there, not to ask questions. >> this is against the backdrop of what we learned earlier. he's not getting briefed on urgent matters. this is juxtaposed with him wielding the power of the pen. why the discrepancy? how can this be stomachs by the american people question marks b5 it's not been summoned >> joey: is not being summoned very well. you have to realize your structure of everyone in front of you, every secretary between the president of the united states. as an 18-year-old, i had to know those 30 something names and ranks, and he can't say the secretary of defense anymore. that's also so much for him to understand and remember. i would like to know the name of the bosses in between him. i'm not going to make fun of him, but why can't he answer questions? he's in charge of the country. jen psaki is not a great job. "i will circle back" is not a good answer. we have one of the largest spending bills ever, and it's completely partisan. these huge pieces of legislation are partisan. you redefine unity for us, mr. president? can you define a border crisis? can you define anything you are doing? 40 days, we need answers. >> emily: that's a great point, joey. the owner of the office, it requires a modicum of respect for the structure. we are not talking about mental acuity. we are talking about upholding the honor. we talked about, in the past, the fine line between access and transparency. the questions the press has about access, that's blown out of the water by the questions of transparency the american people have, again, upholding the office president biden is occupying right now. before it is concerning, as joey has just said, to the american people. we had a poll out today that shows that more than half of americans are concerned about the fact that joe biden has not had a press conference, and half think he's not capable of running the country. that's worrying. our enemies will be watching that as well. his -- don't want him straying far from a teleprompter. anytime he gives spontaneous answers, he forgets names. he forgets the name of the defense department. he turns to his wife, he wakes up in the morning, and he has confessed that he has said "where are we?" he doesn't seem to know where he is. the question is, who was running the government? our kids need to be in school. someone in my family as a principal at an elementary school here in georgia. out of a staff of 70, they've had 10 people positive covid since october. only one of them was possibly traced to a student. although that's anecdotal, it's fact, the state of schools here in georgia. the entire status five days a week school, especially other teachers. i wish other states and teachers unions, wants a teachers themselves, care as much about our kids health and mental health as they do about opportunities to covertly vacation. >> harris: what's interesting about this to me, katie, it is the fact that -- again, missed opportunity by some of these union members who from that facebook page. 5200 people, not a small group. they missed an opportunity to say "we care about each other and all of our children and everyone else. let's work to keep them safe, let's stay home, let's frequent whatever we can, socially distance, masks on in our own areas, pump up the local economy together, enjoy whatever beautiful days of sunshine we might be blessed with over spring break at home. save that for next time. instead, it is "let's hide it, lie about it, not let anybody know if we are having a good time." >> katie: that's a great suggestion, but not their goal. their goal is to extort the system for more taxpayer money. i can't imagine being a female parent who left her job, left the workforce to be home with her children to homeschool a while also paying property taxes and other taxes to fund the salaries of these teachers. they are talking about how not to get caught going on vacation. this is not stemming from nowhere. there's a chicago teachers union vice president named sarah chambers who was arguing that it was unsafe to open chicago schools, but she went to puerto rico and posted a selfie next to the pool on her instagram page, while these children in these districts are suffering. they are suicidal. they are losing out on generational knowledge. they can't compete with their peers here are around the world. this is what they are worried about? "the whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for harry and meghan. the issues raised, particularly that of race, or concerning. while some recollections may vary, they will be addressed by the family. harry, meghan, and archie will always be much loved family members. what are your thoughts on this, miranda?" what are your thoughts on this, miranda? >> miranda: i think this is a classy statement from buckingham palace, considering how awful the allegations were from meghan and harry. this is the queen. this is her fingerprints all over it, what she is saying is "we have compassion for meghan and harry. we wish we had known how terrible they felt, how incredibly put upon the felt." then, they address the explosive race allegations megan made, that her son was not given a title because of the color of his skin, which turns out to be false. they say "those are troubling in concerning, and we will be looking into them ourselves, although collections --" areas their blood, they are the grandchildren, and they still love them very much. you can hear the queen's voice coming in there. it's a great way of hosing down the controversy, and not feeding the beast. >> katie: harris, to the point of a note of compassion, care behind it -- the palace is usually taken a position, do not explain, do not defend. there is one of this resolute silence. that was part of the argument after the tragic death of princess diana. it was that, where were those comments? where were the public statements of solidarity, compassion, grief? do you feel that this is representing a changing of the tide, a recognition that prince harry was traumatized by that experience, a recognition that the palace is taking a different approach to these kinds of issues, these tragic issues within the family? >> harris: you know, i think only time will tell. a lot has happened. a lot of things have gone forward and changed. a lot of things haven't. i think a little differently than miranda about this, because i'm just going to read the words. going to interpret anything. the whole family is saddened to learn the full extent. that does not make it so members didn't know, and that the queen didn't know. this is a sign of unity. this is leadership. i greet with miranda. this doesn't just have her fingerprints on it; it sounds like she wrote it. it comes from a place of leadership, a place where she has had years and years of experience outside and inside family, bringing people together. we can focus on race if you want to, but let's not forget princess diana. her issue is not raised; her issue was wanting to be out and about, personality, things not really driving and clicking. there are whole bunch of reasons why there are rifts. let's go to eric's mark this let's go there! this family has some issues. what's harmonious is the amount of love expressed. that's that unity, the whole family. she's bringing everybody together here. they have prince andrew. they've got to take a look at the allegations against him. they have a lot going on. this tells me that maybe there's a way forward for some unity. that comment to me, is about leadership. we all know that it's got to come from the top, and i think it has. >> emily: you've gone through what an impressive figure the queen is. we saw that interview with harry, meghan, and oprah, and how they had respect and admiration for the queen, and for her role as grandmother. do you believe this is coming from that, that this has her fingerprints over it, rather than the firm? >> emily: >> katie: i'm not a royal family analyst. i think the interview meghan did, and the statements she made in a public forum were not respectful of her family and of the queen. i think the royal family should send more statements out about prince andrew, who allegedly has a number of items who didn't get their day in court because of the jeffrey epstein situation. i'd like to learn more about that than the trauma continuing as a result of someone publicly spewing inside story for money about a family that she voluntarily married into. >> joey: this was relevant through the whole news cycle today. what i will say is -- i'm sorry she made you stop hunting. i'm always trying to be a disciple for hunting and firearms. "the new york post," my colleague, he was the first to break the story back in april, about what was happening in nursing homes. a relative wrote to him about her mother, not being able to see her and how these covid positive patients -- they had to be looked after. it was inevitable, the tragedy that unfolded. for governor cuomo to cover it up since then has been to add more fuel to the fire. we are not seeing much interest in sections of the media. they are more interested in the harassment claims. >> harris: we are not saying that those aren't important. ellis has come to 5 women now. what i was saying all along is that clearly has victims who were deceased, and now if there is another pool of victims -- i want to go to emily, because we are going to run out of time. i want to get to everybody. legally, what does this mean for the governor. if this policy was put in place -- you can't blame president trump for taft, and the cdc. somebody had to have been making those decisions. >> emily: i have to point out, remember even honest when the doj announced they were looking into this policy in multiple states, including new york. they also said -- attorney general there, the ag in massachusetts, brought criminal charges against two officials of the veterans home there, where 76 died. criminal neglect. their defense was that they relied on medical professionals. we are watching that player. your point, there is distinction, no different to new york and other states, or between the policy in massachusetts and new york. >> harris: joey. >> joey: this doesn't happen in a vacuum. it was like there's nowhere else for these people to go. we had a ship in the water from new york city that had hundreds, if not thousands, of empty beds. we had facilities that were never used. it wasn't like there was nowhere else to send these people. this was stubborn is an action come and cost lives to cover it up. it's sad, but more than anything, it's infuriating and deserves answers, and most important the consequences. >> harris: we will be right back.
