They bet the stocks would fall. Smaller retail guys banded together in online forms like reddit, facebook, tiktok and decided and encouraged each other to buy back shares of gamestop, pushing the price up. You saw the stock climb over 1500 in the month of january. The shortsellers that bet the stock would fall lost a lot of money. We saw similar swings with amc, nokia, blackberry. Because of this massive volatility today, you have Trading Platforms like Interactive Brokers as well as robinhood restrict trades which means they stopped people from being able to buy shares of gamestop, amc, nokia to name a few. Some users were so angry that they filed two Class Action Complaints against robinhood because of this stock drama, you brought together lawmakers from both sides of the aisle. Yet house representative alexandria ocasiocortez as well as senator ted cruz both Bashing Robinhood on twitter because of the trade restrictions. Wall street veterans that are concerned, warning Retail Investors have a lot to lose. They are not diversified. Keeps the market running. Its a good thing. Was not a good thing is if you issued ten shares and Bret Baier Incorporated and somebody saw that it was worth 100 and thought maybe i can drive us. Its a great company. They were able to borrow 20 shares. You issued ten that they can borrow 20 and sell it and keep selling it. And pounded and pounded and pounded into submission. All the investors who believed in Bret Baier Incorporated also lose their shirt. This is whats happening. Its not about trading. Its about a Cottage Industry of wealthy billionaires who have been able to pound stocks into complete submission. Its not about a trade, its not about them thinking its oversold. Its about them thinking its not as hopeless, no Brokerage Firms covering it or most have a Hold Operating on it. No one is going to come to its defense. They are not looking for a trade. They are looking for total submission. You get a bunch of young investors mostly, novice investors excited and they notice if you buy the stocks, sometimes they get squeezed. The person that shorted your stock at 10 may have to buy it at 12, may have to buy it at 14 and they start getting nervous and on and on. Its a classic short squeeze, the ultimate short squeeze. What compounds the problem in addition to these hedge funds being able to borrow unlimited amounts of stock and artificially sell it. Its not a real market. They are making a market to the downside. You have the Platforms Including Robinhood and i say shame on them. They have stopped the investors from buying stock so i can only sell it. Okay, they can sell it. The shorts can sell it. Of course its going to go down. Its a serious injustice. If somethings going to be done, something should be done on the ability to get 140 of a companys float which obviously doesnt exist and sell it into the market. Bret for the people who say listen, we are doing this to protect the little guy, you say what . Some little guys made a lot of money in a short period of time. But there could be some holding a bag at the end back in the big guys often dont. The big guys get there is. I think its a disingenuous argument. General electric was the number one stock in the entire world, number one market cap and wall street said to everybody put this in your retirement fund. 50 bucks a share. He went to 6. You can lose money on the bluest of blue chip stocks. The bottom line is the stock market is supposed to be democratized.
