COIMBATORE: Four wagons of a goods train derailed on the ACC Cements factory premises at Madukkarai near Coimbatore in the early hours of Thursday.
No one was injured. Since the derailment happened on an exclusive track, operations on the main railway tracks were not affected.
Palakkad division of Southern Railway said the derailment happened around 4.45 am when the ACC cement’s engine was trying to attach itself to one of the wagons—a process called shunting.
“The engine and coach did not align with each other properly while attaching. Due to the impact of the engine hitting the wagon, four wagons derailed,” said a spokesperson of the Palakkad Railway Division.
